Came here for lunch on a weekday with grandma, I ordered the pecan crusted chicken salad, they brought out a large amount of chicken but chicken in the salad was tasteless and the dressing it came with was sweet. The only thing good about the salad was the mozzarella cheese and the strawberries. The place is definitely a disappointment but the service was good.

Tonight was my first time here and I had a fairly pleasant experience overall. The restaurant had a formal ambiance which was nice. I was there with my family and so we actually ended up sampling each other's meals. To begin, the courtesy appetizer of bread (with a side dish of butter) was not my favorite as it was a little bland in my opinion. For an entree, I ordered the Pan Roasted Pork Tenderloin with Bacon Bourbon Jam (a daily special) which was my favorite of what I tried that night. For its two accompanying sides, I chose Butternut Squash Mash (my second favorite food after the tenderloin... I really liked how the squash tasted just like the mashed up sweet potatoes my grandma prepared for me as a child) and Asparagus. My dad got the Pan Seared Halibut Over Roasted Root Vegetables (Topped With A Local Shrimp / Tomato / Caper Salsa) which was another daily special. I liked the fish but was not such a big fan of the vegetables and salsa. My mom got the Crabcakes with Asparagus and Broccolini while my sister got the Chicken Picatta (didn't care for that myself due to the heavy lemon flavor). Upon receiving the bill, I realized that the waitress had accidentally overcharged me by six dollars but this was quickly corrected. Still, the incident is a good reminder that we all make mistakes sometimes and it's prudent to always check the bill before signing off on it. Because the food was fairly expensive (at least what we ordered), this probably won't be a place I'll be back to in a while for dinner. *As an fyi, their lunch menu items (consisting mostly of an array of sandwiches) average about eleven dollars and are available all day at those prices.

Great service and atmosphere. I had the chicken and waffles which came with a side of home fries. The chicken and waffles was topped with a poached egg and the home fries were a mix of potatoes and sweet potatoes. Very family friendly and no wait to get in. The mimosas were a good size, but a little pricier than other similar venues. Overall a great experience.

Very, very disappointed in my visit yesterday evening. I had heard that there were Tuesday wine tastings. The hostess said "I don't think we have those anymore." She then addressed the lady who I presume is the owner. She was super sweet, and explained new ownership, etc. We decided to stay anyway. Unfortunately, 10 minutes later, no server, no wine offer. We then asked the bartender about the 1/2 price bar menu from 4-7. "We don't have that anymore." My response ---Fix the menu! Update the website!! It looks like they are trying to keep this place going, but, at this rate, it's not looking good. I live West Ashley, and am always looking for good spots to eat and drink wine! I hope our concerns are just links of new ownership.

Having been an irregular at Med Deli in the 80's I am at a loss for words here. While Bistro is ok, I miss the old place now that I am a tourist. Deli was eons ahead of its time, given the foodie fad we are in. Wine and beer cases stacked to the ceiling, "weird beer" night, wine tastings led by Roscoe, and overall madness. Good times.

Went last night for my third time. Have been once for lunch and once for dinner previously. Always friendly service. Food is always good and great specials. Check out the bar menu lots for the $. Great neighborhood spot when you just don't feel like cooking. Good variety too

I wish u could use 3.5 stars. We went last night to watch a new friend, Shelly Waters, play and also for a bite to eat. Shelly was fantastic. Nice library of music. We ate at the bar. New bartender and it showed. He heard me wrong first and it was funny. He then picked up my Blue Moon bottle that still had beer in it and tossed it. We had joked so much about the first mistake that we decided not to say anything. We really laughed it off. Food service was not his best skill either but he was new here. The food was pretty good actually. I had the Greek salad and really enjoyed it and the hot rolls. My wife got the veggie parm. It had large fried eggplant. Substantial and really good. Good atmosphere, food, and an entertaining service. I am sure that will get better and we will be back. Hopefully four stars on our next visit.

Came here for date night with the BF because a friend recommended it. Since I live in North Charleston it was a long way to drive so I was hoping for a really great experience. When we walked in the lady at the hostess desk (who you would assume was....the hostess) she just stared at us like we were crazy. And then decided to tell us that she wasn't the hostess and it wasn't her job to seat us. So we waited another five minutes to be seated. Once we got to our table we are handed menus and didn't see a waitress for about 15 minutes. They were very busy so I can understand waiting 5 mins or so but 15 was a bit much. I'm giving 4 stars because the service & initial impression wasn't the greatest BUT their saving grace is that their food was very good. I had the meatloaf with mashed potatoes and it was the best I've ever had. He had a seafood plate that was pretty good as well. Portions were small for the price. We also ordered a bottle of wine which was smaller than the normal bottle of wine. So that was kind of disappointing. But again the food was great.

I am only "luke warm" on this place...as was my coffee. The outside is misleading. It looks like a hole in the wall deli. It is actually a slightly metro Mediterranean restaurant. The ambience is nice overall. They have ample seating and bar space. Service was attentive but not at all friendly. I was never lacking in water refills, but I could have used a smile or two. I suppose I have high expectations being a native southerner, so that may not deter the average diner. The food is the toughest thing for me to reconcile. It was neither bad nor was it good. It was "eh". I had the fried portobello flatbread. The texture was spot on, but there was NO flavor. I found myself repeatedly adding salt. The cucumber and tomato salad I had as a side item was considerably better, but I could have accomplished the same thing at home with a bottle of Kraft Italian dressing. Overall, just not worth paying $15 for lunch.

Gone to hell. No such thing as ambiance. None of that. Menu in tiny print with nothing interesting to offer. The 'art' is not art. The sterile environment is...sterile. We came for supper, but oops, had a drink and walked over to Osaka. Can hardly wait for this great location to get at least a semi-great restaurant.

If you want a nice salad, Med Bistro is great. This place could get four stars fairly easily, just by streamlining a bit. The menu is perhaps too ambitious: lots of styles made server rec's difficult, and the wait time can be a bit much. The decor is slightly dark and off, especially juxtaposed against the bubbly, affable servers. The food is generally flavorful and fresh, so if you're looking for good take-out, Med Bistro is a solid dinner option.

Fabulous food! Went for the Prix fixe Valentine's Day dinner and the food was awesome! The scallops were succulent and my NY Strip was like a show of fireworks. I haven't tried the place in 10 years and must say I was very surprised. Great job!

Stopped by for a quick brunch today. The restaurant was packed - however there were a few spaces at the bar so we took them. There was continually a line out the door. We had the Pecan Crusted Chicken Salad with Strawberries, and Fresh Mozarella; and the Cobb Salad with Pulled chicken and Avocado. Salads were great - and I look forward to going back and trying more.

This was my bread & butter go-to restaurant when I lived in Charleston. It was casual, quaint, with an always interesting crowd. They had the best pita sandwiches on the planet & this fantastic macaroni salad. Last time I went to Charleston & hunted this place down, I was very disappointed at the transformation Med Deli had taken. Menu is not recognizable with nothing that reminds me of the former outstanding little hidden deli this place once was.

Found this place on a whim a few months ago and it has become one of my favorites. The location isn't that great, but this is definitely one of the best restaurants in west ashley. The soups and sandwiches are fantastic, the restaurant is beautiful, friendly staff, and good cocktail specials!

Ate there tonight (12/12/2007) and it was horrible. I'd give it zero stars if I could. Hostess - very nice and friendly, however, she didn't know what she was doing. We asked to sit near the window at a high table and she sat us by the window at a high table. After getting our water (about 5 minutes later), the hostess told us that we couldn't sit at this table because the waitress will not be able to serve us and that we should sit at the bar. The high table by the window right next to us (2 feet away) was being served by a waitress. I asked the hostess why they were getting served by a waitress. The hostess said that the waitress was getting slammed with customers so she couldn't serve us. Well, why didn't the hostess know that before she seated us and made us move to a different table? That gets an F. Service - Waitress (Gillian) was very nice. very friendly. she never refilled my water. I had to ask a bus girl to refill my water. Gillian never came around when we needed her to come around. The restaurant is not that big and we counted at least 4 waitresses. In short, service was slow and infrequent. To top it off, Gillian dropped a ketchup top into our food when she was trying to bus our table. That's nasty. I give the service an F. Food - This was the bright spot of the meal. now, when I say bright spot I mean it gets a D. It was overpriced ($16 for 5 medium sized ravioli and it was the "large" portion). However, it was tasty. Not on the level of Peninsula Grill or even the Mustard Seed. The forethought for the food was awful. I had the seared tuna wrap and it comes with a side dish. I chose french fries. They put them both on the same plate. Well, it makes sense until you start eating the seared tuna wrap. About a third of a cup of liquid came out of the seared tuna wrap onto the plate. Thus, the french fries became really soggy. You'd think a chef would figure this stuff out. The wrap was way too salty. My wife and I will never go back to the Med Bistro. Even if for some reason my family was having a once in a lifetime gathering at the Med Bistro paid for in full by my parents, I would not set foot in that place. Do yourself a favor and go to Athens restaurant down the street for some Mediterranean food. Conclusion - Horrible Hostess, Shoddy Service, Overpriced Entrees, Super salty seared tuna wrap. F+. stay away from this place.

Med Deli (or "Bistro") is not so Mediterranean anymore... I've always like the casual feel of this bar/restaurant, but have never been impressed by any version of the ever changing menu. I finally decided to give their much advertised brunch a try, and was happy to be seated right away, or, rather, to seat myself right away. Unfortunately, the wait for our food canceled out any initial convenience. It would've been forgivable in a full restaurant, but there were too many empty tables to justify the slow service. Portions were small, and none of the items were noteworthy. I'm the kind of gal who's impressed by a good grilled cheese sandwich, but the grilled caprese didn't make the cut. I was also disappointed to find that they were out of onion rings, and more disappointed that I was still charged for the undelivered order. In conclusion- Med Bistro still can't get it together. But they can manage frequent live music, and a decent beer list.

They're trying too hard to be too many things. Med Bistro is a long room in a strip mall between an old movie theater and an Earth Fare. The walls are totally covered with art (in at least three different styles). For dinner they're clearly going for a European bistro feeling but it just doesn't fit with the bar and the decor. For dinner, you grab a menu and seat yourself. Most of your seating choices are big cushy vinyl booths, unfortunately they're not very comfortable--it feels like they lost all of their cushiness 15 years ago. The tables have paper table cloths that the waitress writes her name on in crayon. None of this is what I've come to expect from a bistro in Charleston. The food was thoroughly unimpressive. A pesto soup special, while tasty, was a thick, brown gruel. Other dishes seemed to just be a hodge podge of ingredients and didn't have much flavor. Maybe their lunch sandwiches are better but for dinner you're better off going to the grocery store next door.

The food is not repeatable. I've been there when the food was great but tonight it was terrible. Just awful. I think they must use different cooks depending on the night of the week. I had a duck over a sweet potato hash with roasted root vegetables. The root veggies were raw, the sweet potato was cold. So I called the waitress over and she took it back to the kitchen. It came back 10 min later over Micro waved with steaming hot sweet potato and rubber duck and still raw root veggies. I won't go back.

One of the real pleasures of my life is to find a great restruant that surprises with service, food and atmosphere. I had high hopes for Med Deli. I read recently that it has new owners and had a cosmetic overhaul. The place is clean and was very busy for lunch. I ordered the liverwurst sandwich on pumpernickel with onion rings with a Sam Adams on draft. The onion rings were OK. (Not hand breaded but more likely from a frozen box) and i found the sandwich lacking in that wonderful liverwurst flavor. The service was great and the Sam Adams was cold. I will try again but for now have to give two stars.
