We had a late lunch at Hannibal's today, and it was overall a very pleasant experience. It is off the beaten path, and I suppose the neighborhood might steer away some potential patrons, but that would be their loss. We were obviously tourists, but we were treated like regulars by the friendly staff and diners. Plusses include the fried chicken, the hoppin' john, mac and cheese and the taste of the ribs. The big negative was that the ribs were only at room temperature - maybe sitting out while the chicken was being fried? I had a good conversation with a patron sitting near the cash register, and he asked how we found the restaurant, and gave kudos to Yelp.

Yep, the food was great! The lady that helped us was delightful!! And the food choices interesting! Not a sweet guy, but theirs was just right. If your looking for fancy insides, well not, BUT a welcoming place, comfortable seats, Great food with good prices give this place to go!! It was a nice place!

Do not leave without trying the coconut custard pie with ganach! Pina colada meets almond joy but fresh and way better. The service, food and sweet tea were excellent.

I had the pork chops crab rice and shrimp...I came all the way from Cincinnati for it. To die for will be back tomorrow!

Bruh. I had the fried chicken drummettes with mac n cheese and green beans the first time. Very good, very good. But my goodness I had the Crab rice today. It was so gosh darn delicious I can't even begin. It was the best meal I'd eaten In weeks. GET THE CRAB RICE IF U LIKE CRAB AND RICE ITS SO GOOD. 5/5 10/10 put hot sauce on it.

This place is a real gem! My wife and I love to eat and arrived in town with our list of restaurants to hit, but are SO grateful our cab driver told us about Hannibal's, which was not on said list. The people were so friendly, first of all. We had appetizers of chicken drumlettes and bbq ribs. These were easily better than bigger-named places in town we tried. Then we had crab rice (our cab driver's rec) and the pork chop sandwich. The portions were very generous and, more importantly, delicious! The pork was so tender on the inside yet crispy and flavorful! For no justifiable reason, we ordered more and got the pre-made bread pudding, which was good, but didn't overshadow the in-house dishes. If you are in town, do yourself a favor and give Hannibal's your business. We are so happy we went out of our way to try them!

Some time when you go home you forget how great food really is. This place is another love food place and what I mean love food is you have to love what you do . If you go to The great city of Charleston please check this place out " Don't be scared to go to the hood " you will love it.

Really great soul food and awesome Southern hospitality. This was truly a great find! We would definitely come back but we live in California:(

Love me some Hannibal's. Wow, what a find. Looks a bit like a mechanic's garage from the outside -- and actually from the inside too, come to think of it. But what wonderful soul food. And the people are so nice. Oh, and it's a major bargain, to boot. You absolutely can't go wrong with the crab rice, which you pair with a selection of traditional tasty sides like collard greens, okra, red rice, etc. I have yet to get more adventurous and try the neckbones, pigtails, gizzards, or shark steak. So I'll have to keep coming back until I do. Great spot.

Just dripping in "the other side" Charleston culture only a couple blocks but really a million miles from King Street. Get the crab and shrimp and a side. Maybe a beer or some liqour. Take in the atmosphere. Can't wait to bring friends and make it a night out. This is the real Chaaaaaawleston.

This is my favorite place in Charleston. I have ate here hundreds of times. I have NEVER had anything less than excellent. Their deep fried pork chop is truly a magical experience. Their Mac 'n' Cheese is the BEST I have ever had. The limas and rice are a force to be reckoned with especially if you have them add a neckbone or pig tail. Be sure to order some deep fried shark too. The beef stew and ox-tails are top notch food also. I often also get the shrimp and crab fried rice which is so simple, yet simply amazing. I could go on and on. To sum it up, everything is wonderful! The have great sweet tea, beer, and cheap liquor too! The portions are huge and you will leave completely satisfied. I hate to say it, but this food is so good it'll make you wanna slap yo mama.....Run, don't walk to this place

I live about 3 doors down from hannibals and finally tried if today! And it was delicious! My boyfriend and I just ordered an assortment of food to try including: baked chicken, yellow rice, Mac n cheese, Lima beans, corn, and fried chicken livers and gizzards. The Lima beans were more of a stew cooked with pork and were AMAZING. the Mac n cheese was my favorite. The boyfriend liked the chicken but can't wait to try the fried pork chop next. Everyone who works here is super nice and friendly. You can either dine in at a booth or bar or take out. We took out since we live 50 feet away. We will be back for sure. They also do breakfast until 11am and the menu looked good. Fried shark steak, shrimp and grits, NOM NOM NOM. Not to mention this place pops off as a bar fri and sat nights. 2.50 beers and 5.50 crown and goose.

This place is truly a gem in the hood. Forget about all the hype of Hominy Grill and the other overrated spots and go to Hannibal's for the real deal! My only issue is that they're very slow, but perfection takes time:-). I had the crab and shrimp sauté over grits and it was delish! The breakfast menu also includes smothered pork chops(yes for breakfast), cornbeef hash, fried whiting, shark steak, salmon, eggs, bacon, etc.
