Mexican Cuisine
If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.
Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.
Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.

For what it is, it is great. In this day and age there are many classifications for mexican food. There is the up and coming taco joint, the traditional mexican restaraunt (few and far between) and then there is dirt cheap mexican. El dorado is in the last group. The deal sealer for me is the lunch buffet, you heard me right, I said lunch buffet. The even put out an entire vatt of cheese dip which usually covers my whole plate. I ahve always had friendly service and the astmosphere is what you might expect. Thats about it, if you can stomach greasy mexican, go get it.

Stopped while on business based on a recommendation from a client. Food was good, hot, fresh. Salsa was just the right amount of hot. They offer a buffet that was very popular as well. The items didn't look as good as ordering fresh. The reason for 3stars, I hate when I am given my check before I am asked if I would like anything else, and while I am still eating.

Thanks to yelp, I discovered Mexican buffets exist. I was over the moon! Hubby and I couldn't wait to eat until we couldn't feel feelings. He loved this place. Me, not so much. Several of the buffet items were pretty spicy. I am a sissy, he is not. I ended up giving a few buffet items to him since I couldn't eat them. But there was one thing on that buffet that I could eat every day: dessert nachos. I have no clue what they actually call these wonderful bites sent from heaven, but they were delightful. Warm, sweet tortilla pieces served with whipped cream and a chocolate whipped cream. I could have eaten them for days and still wanted more! The service was very hands-off, with the servers keeping an eye from a distance. If you can handle some spice, this is a win. If not, I'd still recommend eating here. Just head straight to dessert.

I ordered chicken and It was raw,Nothing is freshly made, zero taste. it was the worst Mexican food I ever ate. Even the guacamole is without taste . Too expensive for the worst "Mexican" food We seriiusly regretted wasting time and money there.

Overall, I was not impressed. I ordered the fajitas tapatias which tasted alright but consisted of quite small pieces of beef interspersed with mostly onions (I ordered without bell peppers) and were served with tortillas that tasted store bought. My husband's taquitos were also okay, tasted pretty greasy to me, but I think he enjoyed them. However, chips and salsa were great! We might return... It was pretty cheap and not terrible. Definitely still looking for good Mexican in Charleston.

Best Mexican in Charleston! Ground beef is delicious! Dos Equis is nice and cold. I like my beer cold! My boyfriend loves the tacos a la parrilla.

Loved the salsa. The food was good and the service was pretty good as well. Service seemed to work more like a team effort than customized service. Not the best Mexican food I have ever had but better than most. Would go back.

Dinner was delicious! We were so happy with the food and drinks. The best homemade chips and salsa. We will return for the best Mexican food we have had. We recommend this restaurant highly.

The good was OK and the waiters were fair but kinda rude not friendly. :/ But the worst part was the bill, they asked for 15 tax and 20 dollars for tip! What!!! They were not even that good for what they are asking! Crazy! And I'm Mexican, I know! Wow! La Hacienda Restaurant it's better!

A native Californian and fat-boy, I know good Mexican food when I see (and taste) it. This is the first place I've encountered on the East Coast that has anything approximating actual "Mexican" food. Several stewed meat dishes, shredded beef, pork, and chicken--virtually nothing made with ground beef (hamburger). Loads of side dishes, sauces, salsas, and accompaniments. The guys serving (and they were all guys) are so-so as servers, but with a buffet it's not that big a deal. Wish it were a little cleaner, but "grit and grime" seems to be more tolerated in the south than in much of the rest of the U.S. The lunch buffet ($10 including a soda) is money well spent. Much, much better than Zia Tacqueria on Maybank Ave.

I got something that was reminiscent of cat food. Maybe I just wasn't in the mood. Service was fair and not very friendly. I don't think I'll want to return to this particular location they seemed busy on the outside but on the inside it seemed sparse. the bowling alley down the street has better food.

Service was much better than before. Buffet was incredible! I'm stuffed & they had dessert out too! Flan, pudding, fried sweet things, whip cream, etc. The only spot in Charleston that has a Mexican buffet. Its a must try.

4 stars on the Mexican restaurant scale. Been a while since visiting but same great variety it always had We come every month when we get the craving and never let's us down. Nothing fancy but friendly service and good value.

My favorite Mexican restaurant in the Charleston area! It is important to me that Mexican restaurant has good salsa and chips. They are my favorite. The people that work here are always friendly. I had a problem with a order and the manager came out and took it off my tab. He was very apologetic and handled it well. The food is good and inexpensive for what you get! I always have to take part of it home with me because it is so much! That is good though, because you get your money worth!

It was decent food, it wasn't the best I've had. There isn't much else I can say about it but basic service and alright food.
(3)Frank J.
Good service and tasty food. Menu is very Americanized Mexican but I guess that's what people want. Very good.
(3)J L.
Food was good. Never saw a Mexican style buffet before. Ordered from the menu, but the buffet looked good. Had a mixed plate of fajitas (steak, chicken, and shrimp). Everything tasted delicious. They seemed over-staffed, but I guess that is a good thing for us customers. Left full and satisfied. That's what counts.

I am a loyal El Dorado fan. I mean really, I give them the business. Lately, their service AND food have been lacking. There have been order mix ups, failure to even put in our order, charges for sides that we didn't even receive until AFTER we had finished eating and food that just doesn't hold up to previous standards. There are reasons I frequent this place. One being that this is the closest you will get to Tex-Mex in Charleston, two being their mini-pitchers of margarita and three being their awesome prices. I hate to do this, but I have to knock them down a few stars for the couple of shitty visits. The first time I thought it was a fluke, the third time I'm thinking there is a problem. Bummer.

My son and I went here today and it was ok but there is others that are so much better. The guys who "serve" have no personality and never smiled one time! Big ol' bumps on logs.... Looked dirty too! not impressed :(

We went to El Dorado based on its Yelp reviews while visiting Daniel Island. While we could have tried a more upscale, boutique place, we were looking for some solid, tasty eats. El Dorado delivered. Quick seating followed up with immediate chips and salsa started the meal off on the right foot. Their queso dip was delicious (get it with jalepenos), and the salsa did not have overpowering cilantro (crucial for people like me who can't stand cilantro). Happy hour was in effect, meaning I got a pretty large frozen margarita for a small amount of cash. My create-your-own-combo satisfied; the enchilada sauce was exactly what I wanted, reminding me of the Mexican restaurant my family used to frequent in the mid-80's. Servers were attentive and quick on refills. We left stuffed and happy. Bravo!

The food on the buffet was good. The spicy food is spicy and delicious. The service was okay, the drinks got refilled when needed but it was like they just seated the party and since we ordered the buffet they didn't ask if we even wanted to order dessert.

Buffet was ok not great $8.00 bucks I gues you get that much

Favorite place to go for Mexican in West Ashley. Pretty good mexican food, cheap beer and great queso, that is all I ask!

I love this place! My husband and I have gone three times so far, and we're hooked. It perfectly fills the niche of inexpensive-but-good Mexican food for us in the Charleston area. The service is unbelievably efficient. Fresh chips are delivered to the table almost immediately upon arrival, along with a generous carafe of delicious salsa with a nice kick. The drinks order is taken within the first minute. I'm a fan of their blended margaritas, and my husband likes their unsweetened iced tea. I can personally vouch for the enchiladas suizas and chicken fajita dinners, my husband loved the shrimp diablo, and we were both very pleased with our selections from the lunch buffet today. Two thumbs up!

I concur with the other review. This is simply a great Mexican restaurant. I took a co worker there for lunch one day, who just happened to be Mexican. She really liked it, said it was one of the better place to go in Charleston for good Mexican. She asked them for the tomatilla sauce, which actually every Mexican place has, but isn't on the menu. Everything was fresh, hot, and tasty. Haven't been to the happy hour yet, but sounds like I may have to make the journey down from the Creek.

Hands down best Mexican food in town, every time we eat out this is the place to go,everything made from scratch and not to mention the margaritas are the best in town!!
(5)Jay W.
My daughter lives near here. Everytime we come to town the lunch buffet is a must. My favorite mexican place hands down. Great food, great service, great price!!!
(5)Brennen J.
Went here for the lunch buffet after reading the rave reviews and seeing it has one of the highest ratings for Mexican in Charleston on yelp. All I have to say is, Charleston must have like really crappy Mexican places in general because this place wasn't good. The food was just gross, really sloppy, and low quality. Boyfriend and I felt sick afterwards. The price was 8 dollars so I guess that's okay, but you're definitely not getting any quality for it at all.

This is the second time we have visited this restaurant in the last 2 months. The restaurant is clean and there is plenty of parking on the sides of the restaurant and in the back. The food is good and the service was quick. We were there around 7:30 pm and for a Wednesday evening it was not very busy. The only irritating thing about the experience is that the restaurant was playing rap music a little too loudly. I admit I am not a fan of rap music and they did switch over to other types of music but I feel as if it was too loud. I believe that music should add value to the over all environment of the restaurant however I do not believe that it should be so loud that it makes your dining experience irritable. Had we gone to a bar I would have expected music to be blaring but not at a restaurant. Other than that our experience was pleasurable.

When I want Mexican, I want Mexican. As in, the staff doesn't know English, entrees on the menu aren't given some wacko cutesy Americanized name, and unlimited chips (not Tostitos - I'm talking to you Juanitas) and salsa. And El Dorado gives it to me. Every single week. Happy Hour from 4-8 gets you an obscene margarita for $5.00 and the daily lunch buffet is only $8.00 with anything your heart could desire.

Hands down, the BEST Mexican restaurant in Charleston. My husband & I go there once a week and it is always fantastic. Not only is the food delicious (not to mention well priced) the service is excellent. Can't say enough about El Dorado.

I got the all you can eat lunch buffet and a pop for under $10? Are you fisting me? The buffet was HUGE. I mean, they had a TON of different stuff on there. The food was GOOD, too! I will def go back sometime.
