We ordered Bushido the other day for the first time. We thought we were ordering delivery, but it turned out to be pick up only. They quit delivery service but it still lists it as available on their website. I feel like it was really expensive for take out Japanese. I absolutely love hibachi but it wasn't worth the full price as a to go order. I asked for a double order of vegetables but all it contained was zucchini. Very skimpy on the other veggies. Must have been low on onions that day. I will say that for a craving, it was a very quick order. I called, got in my car, and 10 minutes later I had Hibachi in the seat next to me. They did forget my soy sauce side, which was devastating at the time. I might be back, but I probably will try a few other asian inspired restaurants before coming back here.

I used to love Bushido, but it's really lost it over the past few years. first, I should say the filet I had was terrific, and perfectly cooked. but everything else was a fail. the waitress told me there are new owners, a few months ago, and they've made changes. most seem bad to me. soup is the same, and good. ginger salad dressing now sucks, and is now mayo based. no more ginger sauce. it used to be my favorite. Lastly, and really telling, my kid used to live the grilled cheese. it was good. now they can't even bother to melt the cheese on there. this place just isn't worth going out of your way anymore.

I had a delicious tuna shrimp tempura roll, it was just the right size to fit nicely into my mouth unlike some places. We also had the gyoza - standard and tasty. I'd order them again. The crab wonton had little crab and was pretty oily. They're just not my scene. My friend had the udon noodles, I tried a forkful and can say I'd order this myself. I'll be back to try more of their sushi, we originally wanted to use a groupon but were seduced by the menu into ordering the above. Reasonably priced rolls, mine was $9 or $10.

If I had 10 thumbs, all of them would point to the ground. I hate to be that guy but this place is 100% amateur hour. Our server (who will remain nameless) started out great! Super helpful with the menu. Even hooked up my 2yr old with some cucumbers and ranch to tide him over until the food arrived. 45 minutes later ...45!!! Not 20 minutes but 45 minutes. That's 20 minutes times two, plus an extra 5 minutes. Not once did our server check on us. SERIOUSLY?!?! The kitchen obviously slipped but that doesn't mean that you should IGNORE us?!?!?! I was borderline ready to walk out but my wife is like 100 weeks pregnant and starving. We stayed. The food arrived and was absolutely delicious however, our server would never know that because we were being IGNORED! Did we do something to upset you? Was my 2yr old causing a scene? Were we throwing you shade as if it were your fault that the kitchen was behind? The answer to all of these questions is NO. I'm in the industry...have been for years. I can understand when kitchens get backed up but you gotta step your game up and at least come talk to me. Don't go hide out in the kitchen and take every other route through the dining room to void walking by my table!!! And after your co-workers drop off my food, it's common courtesy to at lest stop by and ask us how it tastes. And one more thing...how did you know that we didn't care for dessert? You must have read my mind as you handed me my check with my mouth full from my last bite of food. Excellent timing. Manager? Hahahaaaaa. Great question.

A wonderful place to enjoy some good sushi and have a drink. I always sit at the bar because my wife divorced me and it's kind of depressing to sit at a table alone. I always try to make it for happy hour. They offer 1/2 priced sake and really good appetizer prices. I usually get a large sake and a beer to chase it with and then I'll order some crab wontons and the gyoza, which is delicious. Matt the bartender is great and interesting to talk to. Bushidos is a great place to dine and I encourage a visit next time you are in the area.

Great food, good variety of options, and fast, friendly service. I've been here a few times and it's been good every time. Last night we had the rainbow, spicy tuna, tempura shrimp and crunchy crab sushi rolls and they were all delicious - I think tempura shrimp was my favorite! Then we each got hibachi (the portions are big so we took most of it to go) - it was fantastic. The server didn't skimp out on the white sauce when we asked for extra. We will definitely be going back soon!

I love eating at Japanese themed places. This has been by far my worst experience. The place wasn't that busy but they only had one waitress to do the whole floor. The food was tasteless and just not worth the prices they charge. Even with the groupon deal it was the worst 50 i have ever in my life ate at. They put the mandatory gratitude even though we did not have 6 people. I left a tip but not 20$ worth for service that horrible.

Went to lunch & server brought wrong order...I told her I asked for steak & shrimp, not steak & chicken. She left for 3-4 minutes & came back with a small plate...she made me scrape the chicken off my plate!!! All I'm thinking is: WTF ARE THEY GOING TO DO WITH THAT CHICKEN?!?! Gross. I won't be going back.

This place used to be good. Last time in the service was terrible. It took an hour to get our sushi (4 rolls) and the server did not refill our glass even once.

so sadly busidos has lost a star. I used to frequent the establishment on $7 signature roll night but that no longer exist. So we weren't notified and paid full price. I won't be coming here as often for sure. When the price was right it was a sure fire 4 star but now it is three. If I am paying full price for a roll I would rather go to another establishment.

I love Bushido's! Their food is always fresh and tasty. My favorites are the Mozzarella egg rolls. They are different and so good. Their hibachi specials are a great deal. Most recently, I had a groupon for 2 to have the hibachi meal. We had hibachi steak, salad and soup. Everything was cooked perfectly and was delicious. The bar does a great job as well-I thoroughly enjoyed the cosmo. The sushi is also good-I have always been pleased. The prices are reasonable, and the service is great!

I go back and forth with this place. I like it because it's right down the street from my house and also because the food is truly delicious...but man, the service.... I just feel like I'm always hearing from the staff about how they feel about the management, and it often takes FOREVER to get served (unless it is lunch time - I always have great success around that time because there are literally zero people in the restaurant and I mostly sit at the empty, bartenderless bar). Last time I had to ask three times for a water and I watched the waitress do things like chit chat, clean off tables (there wasn't a wait), etc. - this was one of the times I wasn't sitting at the bar. There is just no atmosphere because its usually empty and everyone is very stiff. I can't quite pin point the problem. I'll say again, the food is excellent, but I would choose ichiban on sam rittenberg over bushido every time if bushido wasn't soooo close to my house (i think its the same owner? or same family?) I'm not sure what the problem is but it's something.

Great food however terrible service! Waitress forgot our drinks twice and said they would be free and then still charged us! Had a groupon and told the waitress and then she proceeded to tell me You should have said this earlier! Thanks for making us feel good about our business... New Mgt better teach their waitresses how to treat their customers! This would be a complete 0 except that the food was great.

I took a business client to lunch, it took five minutes to be seated with only one party ahead of us and the restaurant was only a third full. The one waitress for the whole place was great, but was running like crazy to keep customers happy. The kitchen was VERY slow, and the food was disappointing. Maybe one notch above a frozen microwave meal. Not very impressive for my client. I won't be back.

    (1)
  • William M.

Nope, still won't deliver. And their hostesses are still snobby. They look you up and down and assess you before seating you. Don't like your looks you might be waiting or get told you need reservations. I have seen couples get in without reservations then tell me and the kids no reservation no seating. We're not good enough for bushido, bushido is not good enough for us.

The food is amazing we ordered the Rasta sushi and got a free plate of gyoza because we check-in in Yelp. Both of those are delicious. Have to wait longer for hibachi but it's a good place to eat.

I am a fan of this place for a few reasons. It is the closest sushi spot to my house and though the sushi menu seems limited to me, the quality and taste is very good. They also have a great happy hour that features really good drink and appetizer specials. The restaurant has been featured on Man Vs. Food for their spicy tuna handroll challenge. My favorite item on their menu is the new lobster appetizer. Picture included. It is amazing!! I've tried a lot of lobster tail at various high-end downtown Charleston restaurants, but Bushidos definitely is at the top of the list as my all time favorite. The quality is great but the sauce they use to accompany it (they described it as Asian infused style) was indescribably awesome. It's brand new on the menu under appetizers. Order it! Last night we also had the gyoza, which is like chicken potstickers. They were really good too. For the rolls, we had the Rainbow Roll, Rasta Roll and Spicy Tuna Roll. All very good, my favorite was the spicy tuna. My only complaint about my experience last night was the bartender. We sat at the bar for dinner. The place was not busy, only 2 other patrons at the bar. The bartender was not attentive. I hate to see what her skills are like on a truly busy night because she seemed to not be able to handle a few people. She actually talked me out of doing a shot at one point. I asked what she mixed with the Pinnacle chocolate whipped cream vodka and she replied, "don't get that, I have not had anyone order that since I've been here." She did not offer an alternative suggestion so she lost a sale on that one. We also had to track down our own silverware because she was no where to be found at one point....the list goes on. She seemed more concerned with flirting with a co-worker than her customers. If I had a bar I would not want this chick working there. In close, Bushidos is a great spot that I definitely recommend. Despite the poor service on my most recent visit, I will definitely be back to support them!

Great place for a happy hour. Drink and appetizer specials. They have a menu of appetizers for $2-$5. Decent prices on sushi which is a plus for is. $5-$12 range. One day I'll get enough guts to try the Bushido Challenge!

Expensive! I went there a couple of times for lunch. I had a chicken and rice bowl. The size was made more for a child. It was around a few ounces of meat, if that much, with a cup of rice (and we all know how cheap rice is). The price was $9.50, including a soda. I left still a little hungry. It would have been about $20 if I ordered another bowl, which would have then satisfied me. And I'm not a big eater. The food is good, but it is way too expensive. I'm sorry to say that I won't be going back.

After reading scathing reviews, I am shocked at the criticism people give for miniscule items. My wife and I used the Groupon for two hibachi lunches, and had no problem directing ourselves to the hibachi section of the menu to figure out what to eat. The food is Japanese, not the menus people, read your Groupon and then read the English menu. Hell, if that is too hard for you, ask the waitress what menu items work with the Groupon, not simply if you can use it! The filet lunch cost an additional $5, but the restaurant took that charge away without me asking. I would have paid it because the lunch was excellent. The service was great, from the host, waitress and additional support staff. Bushido is an excellent choice for a quick lunch in a shopping center. Keep in mind people, this restaurant is in a shopping center in West Ashley, not downtown. That fact doesn't make the restaurant bad, I simply want to remind people not to expect a $100 meal and service experience from a restaurant providing a lunch for $11 ($16 for the filet). I read a few of the reviews on here and noticed the owner responded to some complaints, all of which were fixed by the time I got there today. Either I hit the jackpot by having an awesome waitress, staff, and food; or management is actually improving operations based on the harsh critics' complaints below. I'll keep going back and eating food well worth its price.

I purchased a groupon to this restaurant and my fiancé and I went on a Wednesday night. We each had a $3 glass of wine (wine down Wednesday special) and we had the filet hibachi. I'm not kidding when I say the steak melts in your mouth it's so tender. We will for sure be going back to this place, groupon or not it's worth every penny!

Blech..... My husband and I really wanted to eat here ever since the Man vs Food episode. Here is our experience.... I ordered hot green tea, they gave me a huge pot with not quite hot water and one tea bag. By the time the tea bag (what good Japanese/sushi restaurant ever gives you a tea bag?!?!) was done steeping, the tea was luke warm.....and very bland. I had the waitress take it back. About a minute later she was shouting across the room to another server asking if she thought the water wasn't hot enough. Yikes. Then miso soup.....just so so (a little bland). We each ordered the tuna hand rolls levels 1-4. They took about 40 min to arrive. Then the server told us which one was which level.....she lied. I think there were oddly 2 level 2s and 2 level 4s. The consistency of the tuna was just, well......odd. With a strangely weird Hellman's mayo tang. The rolls just had crunchies and rice, no cucumber or roe or any nice extra touches. Occasionally I would bite down on multiple crunchies that clotted together into a hard ball. The portions were generous, which sucked, because I really didn't want to eat anymore after the 1st roll. The rolls were spicy, which was what we wanted, but for some reason the server thought we would be fine with empty water glasses......thank goodness for the ice left over in the cup. Finally got my water refilled at the end of the meal!! The server came back and asked if we wanted to order anything else.....nooooo!!! Took about 10 minutes for her to bring the check and waited about the same time for her to pick up the payment. When she did she whined and moaned about being short staffed. Don't waste your hard earned money here. Gotta go, my tummy doesn't feel so happy!!

You can only use groupon on only a couple menu items which was not reflected in the description. The waitress didn't check on us .. Empty drinks and no soy sauce. Sushi was something you would get at a cheap grocery store. The Asian women at the counter were very rude. My check was over 50 dollars and they wouldn't accept full groupon. WAY BETTER SUSHI IN CHARLESTON. DONT WASTE YOUR TIME. I got ripped off. No thanks. Yea there's a reason it's on groupon. I should have paid attention to the low ratings.

Worst restaurant in Charleston. Rolls took 90 minutes to come out. Tables around us got food before us and arrived 30 minutes after us and some an hour after us. Waiters were not the problem. The sushi chefs were way too slow for the number of patrons. Been to many much busier sushi places that serve better quality and under 45 minute rolls. The sushi chefs looked to be very rude to the waiters and waitresses. When we asked to speak to a manager a different waiter was sent to our table instead of owner/managers I could see doing nothing by kitchen entrance. Just because every table has too wait over an hour for sushi is not an excuse for lousy back house service. Go to Wasabi in Daniel Island or North Charleston or Zen Asian Fusion in West Ashley. Id even go to Panda Express over Bushido again. Literally worst restaurant experience ive ever seen and im very easy going.

Very disappointed in this place. I used to frequent it but I won't be anymore. First of all the portions have gotten very small. The steak bowl is more like a side item then a meal. Service was atrocious. We had to flag down our waiter through every simple process. We ordered and he brought us water with no straws, didn't ask how we would like our steak cooked. (Everything was very overdone) Then the food took a long time to arrive and wasn't complete. They had to bring out parts of the meal at a time because they "didn't have it ready yet." We spent probably 15-20 minutes just waiting for the check. Meanwhile we sat with empty glasses and dirty dishes on our table. The couple next to us sat down and never had their order taken. I wish I would've left like they did.

I do enjoy good sushi but I hate waiting 2 hours for it! What the heck?! We got to the restaurant and it had a pretty cool vibe. We ordered miso, appetizer and 4 rolls. The rolls seemed a tad smaller than expected (6pieces?) regardless we had to wait 2 hours for our food to be ready. People got there after us and got served faster. It was really frustrating and when we asked to speak with manager a different server came to our table. Come to the restaurant if your not too hungry cause it will take a lifetime to get served.

Food: simply great. Had their house soup (a tad bit bland but good stay nonetheless), squid salad (amazing, tender, generous portion of squid in a slightly sweet, scrumptious, melt in your mouth sauce), jelly fish nigiri (definitely worth trying...tasted a little like kimchi), yellowtail roll (very fresh), and rainbow roll (again, very fresh). Unfortunately, they were out of some of the other stuff we wanted to try (like the sea urchin-uni). Drinks: should not have bothered. Sake is ok, nothing special. Beer selection not big. House wine was awful (I couldn't finish the glass it tasted like grape juice). Plum wine is way overpriced. No normal mixed drinks, only dessert-like stuff. Atmosphere: weird. Very young crowd. Hardly anyone over 35 that we saw. However, 80s music was blasting all evening...I guess just not what I'd expect for an Asian place. Service: took a while to get greeted but once we sat down the waitress was truly very attentive. The other servers also seemed good. Will probably go again but may check out other sushi bars first before we come back.

I have been here before for sit down service and it was ok. The app special was great! But the sushi was just ok. It wasn't anything to brag about but still did the job. However, last night I ordered sushi to go and it was not good at all. There was barely any fish and the shrimp tempura was all tempura and no shrimp. It was edible, but cold and not what you would expect. I was excited when I moved here because I thought I had found a great sushi place close to me that was cheap, but I was wrong. In essence, you get what you pay for here. There are MUCH better places in Charleston.

I got a groupon, which the picture showed a "cook at the table" hibachi style atmosphere. This place really had the decor of a fast food restaurant. The drinks were cheap, but the waitress was so rude and kept trying to rush us to order. Not fun when trying to relax on a Friday night. The menus were sticky, couldn't even tell you how the food was- the experience made it impossible to enjoy.

  • Lana S.

I have very mixed feelings about this palce. Had a sashimi salad and it was really good and i suppose that's it. The soft shell crab tempura was greasy, the rolls selection was not appealing - I did not know what to order even though I was hungry.

Agree with other posters. The Groupon is very misleading. Told them we had it when entering but told we couldn't use it after meal because it only applied to certain items. Very long wait for service and food. Mediocre at best and final bill for three was high for quality of servings. Stuck with a Groupon now that I honestly will not use.

Well I had High hopes and was excited about going there for Fathers Day. We had a groupon and my Wife and I ordered a Hibachi dinner and two sushi rolls. Salmon Hibachi, Steak Hibachi and A dragon roll and a Hulk Roll. Unlike other compaints here our Miso was not bad. Actually rather good. The salad with Ginger sauce.. Drowned in Ginger sauce and added very little Ginger to the flavor even though the bottom of the bowl was more soup then salad. Oddly our Sushi arrived after our Hibachi.. Normally most places serve the sushi as an app if you do not order and App. The Dragon roll was good. But the hulk roll was tasteless. As far as the Hibachi .. I loved my salmon and my wife was satisfied with the steak even though the rice was not a little under done for her. Our complaint falls firmly in the After service. We Pay our bill via Pay Pal so that I get instant email conformation on any activity on my card. We were pleased with the price and with the groupon it was well worth the cost we payed. When our check returned from the waitress the first sign of worry began for us. The wrong credit card was in my receipt book. And both the card, my bill and the other persons table tickets were all in my booklet. I check and made sure I was not mischarged after things were sorted out and Thankfully I was charged for our meal and not the other guys 89 dollar ticket. On the way home my wife and I stopped by wal-mart to pick up a few things. And my CARD registers another 5 dollar charge ! I had tipped in cash and Crossed out all lines for tip value. I promptly called the establishment and when I asked for the management I was told that they were not there. After struggling to get through to a Manager I finally reached a manager that was helpful and polite. Only to be told that it must have been my tip charge. After explaining that I tipped in cash He told me that he could not see what the wait staff had logged for tips until tips were declared in the morning and he would call me and we could sort it out ASAP.. As of this posting. I called the restaurant and was informed that repeatedly there is no manager in the store AT ALL for the entire day ..! But I was welcome to drive back in and get a refund If I wanted. to talk to the manager when he comes back.. Needless to say.. Avoid this place until some serious changes are made.

Sushi is slightly above average. The biggest beef that I have with Bushido is that the service is painfully slow. It seems that the wait staff is more concerned with chatting with friends and coworkers that tending to the needs of the patrons. Many times I've had to flag down another waitperson because my drink had been empty for 15 minutes or more. To me, service is the key to the experience- and this is the reason that i give 2 stars.

Great sushi place. Had an eel roll and crunchy crab roll. Both were fresh and really tasty. Also ordered a sort of beef sushi roll.. basically thinly sliced steak wrapped around some veggies with a sauce. It was great. I would definitely go back.

Whenever we travel, we made it a mission to visit most of the restaurants Man vs Food had been to, because he raves about how awesome those places are. When we were visiting Charleston, we were sooo excited to come here. (being a sushi lover too)!! Of course we were here to do the SPICY TUNA CHALLENGE!!! When we first got there, they said we couldn't do the challenge that day and had to come back tomorrow at 11am. We came back the next day, we were highly disappointed. They gave us giant spicy California hand-rolls instead of the regular spicy tuna. The hand-rolls were highly packed with rice and was on the verge of exploding open. They used ghost chili pepper for the last roll instead of the red thai chili pepper. This was not what we had hoped for. We heard the workers in the back arguing how nobody told them about us wanting to do the challenge...and yet we basically made an appointment to do this challenge yesterday! They then told it to our faces that tuna was very expensive, so they couldn't give it to us. Why would you have a spicy tuna challenge if you can't afford the most basic fish for sushi. Quite frankly, we didn't even have the morale to even do the challenge with the horrible service we had. The challenge was a total disappointment. The handrolls were supersized and packed with large amounts of rice and very little imitation crab to boot. The spiciness wasn't even the issue. Our other friends ordered other foods from the menu and was not impressed either. I see that others on yelp didn't have a problem with this, so this makes me sad. We were visiting from Texas and will surely not be coming back to eat here next time. I know I've said this many times, but as a major foodie, I was sooo disappointed in this restaurant that I just had to put up a review here. Our hand-roll pictures are in the photo gallery here.

Possibly the worst service I've ever had in my entire life. First we walked in and weren't even noticed for 10 whole minutes then the guy at the bar had to seat us. Once seated we were not even acknowledged for another 10 minutes while the waitress walked by us multiple times. Terrible vibes. Don't waste your time.

I absolutely LOVE BUSHIDO's! I have been coming here for years. They actually just updated the look of their menu as well as some of their menu items; which is a plus, making everything more attractive. I come here at least 4 times a month. My fiance and I usually sit at the bar for drinks/dinner because we love the male bartender! I always get the chicken/shrimp/steak hibachi bowl. Delicious and not as pricey as other local Japanese Steakhouses. As far as the drinks go, they are always above average!

I have been her twice. Sushi was ok. Service was ok. You would have to hunt someone down for a refill. You will spend on average $ 35 per person. Which I think is a bit pricy for they type of service they dont provide.

Although I firmly believe that every server I've had at this place has been high, that doesn't take away from the awesome happy hour menu and killer sushi. I usually go a few times a month and have never been disappointed, good food and acceptable prices. My ONE question... what kind of Japanese place doesn't include sake on their happy hour menu, but has every other house liquor??? I want answers, Bushido.

I typically am very satisfied with my experience here; however, today I decided to order a few rolls for pickup. Not a good idea; the amount of actual fish in each piece was unbelievable. I basically ate rice and scallions with the tiniest piece of fish. I am very upset with the quality of the takeout, definitely not worth the money. It will be a while before I even consider going back.

Given the liberty to write reviews on places I patronage, I like to keep things fair and not one-sided. I was impressed and appreciative that the owner, Justen, had taken the time to reach out in reference to my concerns on both Yelp & Trip Advisor. Because he had done so, in a constructive and apologetic fashion...I discreetly tried the restaurant again for take out to see if there had really been improvement. I am happy to say, yes. This past experience was much more professional and I felt welcomed. When I had called to ask a question, she was kind, patient and informative. My order, was ready and waiting for me and the hostess/cashier was friendly and warm. Food was prepared and packaged with care. This was a refreshing experience, & I hope that this continues at Bushidos, as I really do enjoy their food and proximity to my house. Thank you Justen, for taking my concerns seriously and more importantly, making the changes needed to keep customers happy.

It's alright. Pretty much just your run-of-the-mill Japanese restaurant. I think it gets overhyped a little based on the whole Man vs. Food thing, to be honest. That's not to say it's not good, because it is. I just don't think it's that much better or worse than other options in the area. Service is usually alright. Nothing really noticeable sticks out in that regard.

This is not a good place to eat. I ordered the edamame and that was ok. I had the crab wontons and they made me sick. The Crab meat must've been bad. The chicken bowl was very mediocre. There was too much fat on the chicken and it was over cooked and chewy. The reason I give this only one star is because as we were getting our check I had to run to the bathroom to vomit. (from the wontons, I was the only one to eat them at our table) ALSO I was dripped on by one of the vents for most of the night.

When i arrived at this restaurant the only people here were me, my wife and the employees gossiping at the bar getting wasted off their ass. As we sat down at our table i noticed how dead this place was when i saw a tumbleweed rolling on by on of the tables. When we ordered our food one of the waiters must have been a former drug abuser because i could have sworn he was snorting some sort of cocaine he was harvesting in the south Amazon jungle, either that or he was sniffing some $2 pixie stick powder. The food was alright the service was more of a "what the fuck is happening" service. It appears that some of the staff were asleep being the glass sushi counter, that or they were just Asian in South Carolina... Yeah im just as confused as you are. Planet nibiru does exist , the government controls our weather lol Sincerely, Your grandpa

My boyfriend is obsessed with going to places featured on Man v. Food which automatically warranted a trip to Bushido for some of their sushi. Bushido did not disappoint. Firstly, the location: it's a bit out of the way located in a West Ashley strip mall - I'd normally not stop to eat there if I was just passing by. The decor is typical & nothing special, but it gets the job done. We started out with a few sushi rolls + my boyfriend ordered one of the spicy tuna handrolls [level 5]. Both sushi rolls were FANTASTIC, and my boyfriend enjoyed his spicy handroll, and while he said it wasn't spicy, I watched him tear up from eating it.... so you can make your own assumptions. We also ordered some of the smaller chicken teriyaki bowls which came with a soup. The soup was delish, and the chicken teriyaki was decent. They kind of pack it all in the bowl so it's hard to mix the rice & chicken/bell peppers. Their spicy side sauce is a piece of heaven, so freaking delicious. Service was okay, a little slow but not unbearable. Everyone was generally nice. Would I return? Yes, but not so sure I'd order a non-sushi entree next time. The sushi was great alone & the entrees were good...but I'd had better.

My first time here but ill lay it out. My wife and I came to this restaurant with high hopes. We had the amazon local voucher for this place, contains drinks, app and entree. Also if you say you open at 11am, 11:15am is late. We were waiting.. and I had alot of sushi in my life.. 1. Drinks: water is tap. Tastes like tap. Sweet tea missing a few ingrediants, watered down and to lemony. Their sodas tastes really weird... I love melo yellow but man... its so weird. 2. App: Side salad with ginger dressing. The salad is fresh but the dressing was dry yet runny, the color is of vomit. And the plating was so messy, there was dressing drunning off along the plate. MISO SOUP is a fake here. Taste like an instant package of soup. Seaweed is chewy and the broth us just gross. 3. Entrees just sad. Regular maki rolls. The meal was sad enough. I ordered the spicy kani (imitatiom crab), spicy tuny (frozen), and sumo (take out the cream cheese please) Lastly I want to say is $15 for a supposed $30 meal was not worth it. My wife ordered spicy tuna, spicy salmon, and unagi roll. Anything that is raw as in fish is most likely frozen. The scent of it is off like a freezer. And fish shouldnt be grounded up like how they put in the roll. It was so shame to any sushi restaurant. The ambiance was weird, rasta music/radio music in a JAPANESE restaurant. 30min wait for food, entrees of maki rolls. Its so sad to be here and see other people who order 10-20min later than you get their food before you do. Its not worth.

What happened here? I hadn't been to Bushido in a year or so. By far the best sushi west of the Ashley. Today stopped in for lunch. I left wondering if it was worth ever going back. I was hungry so i went for 3 rolls - crunch, detonator, and the daily special dragon lobster roll. I'd had the first two in the past but the special was new. The first two came to the table with an explaination that the lobster roll takes a while to prepare. That's fine. The crunch roll was ok. It was supposed to be tempura shrimp but was panko breaded instead. If it weren't for the eel sauce it would not have had any flavor. The detonator is a spicy tuna roll deep fried. It was a mess. Loosly rolled gigantic slices that fell apart when you touched it. The cream cheese and copious amount of goo flowed all over the plate. Evidently they use a fish paste for spicy tuna. Not cut up and mixed with hot sauce. Its blended into a thick paste that looks and tastes like cat food. It was not good. The lobster roll came wrapped in some sort of pink edible paper, drenched in an overly sweet sauce, and covered thin fried sweet potato strings. I removed the grassy crap to find the outside of the roll topped with that nasty spicy tuna cat food mortor so i scrapped it off. The lobster itself was ok but the sauce was just too sweet and hard to ignore. The service was great, aside from her calling me 'Baby' the whole time. I asked her when they changed from good tuna to cat food paste. She said this is how the new owners do it. OH! So that's what happened. Aparently it's going down hill pretty fast. She told me they are on Groupon now - the last ditch effort of a struggling business. Perhaps they should just change the menu back to the original and hire some REAL sushi chefs who give a damn about what they are doing. Sad.

I'm new to SC so maybe it was the day I went or time 6:30 pm yes it was busy in the place, but to wait for an 1hr for take out!!! Crazy! So I get home and yes I couldn't wait to eat this 1hr wait Sushi.... It was good not that I would wait an hour to get and there are some places (in another state) that I would wait an hour just to get in the door! Hum I went on NYE to Zen Bistro and ready in 20 minutes for takeout and that place was just as busy. Would only go if I was in shopping center and the place wasn't busy obviously they can't handle busy.

From what everyone said tonight was just a bad night, but it was a really bad night! The tuna was "fishy" - bad sushi sign! The most disappointing thing was the service, it was horrible and because we were a group the waitress got a 20% gratuity! I may give it another try but not for a long time!

I have been to Bushido many times before.....with friends, family, and co-workers. Today I ordered lunch for myself and my co-worker to be picked up. I ordered online and received a confirmation that my order would be ready for pickup at 12:21pm. I arrived at the restaurant at that time, and had to wait 1/2 hour to receive my order. I sat there for what seemed like an eternity, with no apologies from the girl who was taking all the to-go orders. It wasnt like I had a large order....it was two lunches. I had to be back at work at 1pm for a meeting, and was late due to having to wait for my lunch. If I hadn't already paid for my order online, I definitely would have chosen to leave and get something else. The whole time I was sitting there, I was not told "It will be just a moment" or "Would you like a water while you are waiting?" These seem like absolutely simple things, but I am in the hospitality business, and sometimes simple things like that can go a long way. After finally receiving my food more than an HOUR after I ordered it, I didn't get a "I am sorry this took so long, have a great day" I am now having to eat my cold food at almost 2pm because I was late for my meeting and obviously could not eat in it. I love Bushido's food, but highly doubt I will go back there. I am extremely pissed off that because I was a to-go order, I was not given the amount of service I should have. I will make sure to tell all my friends not to go to your restaurant.

We tried the sushi mix and the una-ju (eel on rice). The una-ju was pretty good but the sushi was quite disappointing: the fish was not fresh (fish odor) and the rice was clearly not sushi rice. Will not be going back for sushi.

Standard sushi fare that is at best acceptable--not exactly what you want in a sushi joint. Uncaring wait staff lacked interest or pride in their work, which is a reflection of poor management. The sushi was standard; the menu featured lots of specials with mayo, cream cheese, or krab (which they try to trick you by spelling correctly as crab). Our table was set, but had a giant sticky spot, and we had to ask the waitress to clean it, which she did with a sopping wet rag, which then left the table a wet mess. I dried it with a napkin, then had to beg for a fresh one, which was dropped off in haste and when she walked away could not be bothered to take away the used one. Then she dropped off the platter of sushi, and said, "Here you go," with no introduction to each roll, and she definitely did not notice or care that there was a mistake item on the plate. Would not recommend to a friend.

We have enjoyed bushido for a few years, since before they moved and before man vs food. We love it. The sushi is awesome (we love the twist roll) the appetizers are awesome, especially the crab wontons and fried dumplings. I love this place. I have done the challenge, its the worst pain I can ever remember feeling, don't do it unless you do not have plans later. Friday and Saturday nights are really busy, the best deal is to go during happy hour.

Whenever my co-workers are in the area we love to hit this sushi bar for dinner. The service is always friendly and nice. Sometimes it takes a while to get the sushi, but it is always worth the wait. I love the shrimp tempura roll and the crab roll. Definitly work the visit. Sorry, I missed the 'Man vs. Food' episode. . I'll have to look it up. .

This a resonable priced sushi spot with great food. We thought the gyoza was the best we've ever had the house soup was also really delicious. We got four rolls and enjoyed each one. The service and atmosphere are good without being upity. Overall a great spot for sushi!

We arrived on Thursday evening and were quickly seated. I got the squid salad (on a recommendation- definitely interesting) and we then ordered quite a few types of sushi. I am in love with the shrimp tempura and presidential role--craving more now. The service was attentive and prompt.

Wow Def one of the best spicy tuna hand rolls I have ever tried. Tried the #5 spicy tuna hand roll from the challenge which taste great and had just the right amount of kick to it. I wish I would of went through with the whole challenge but didn't want to eat yogurt and drink milk for rest of night. My friend was too chicken to take on challenge as well so I don't feel so bad. The service was great and the waiter was very helpful. I would recommend this spot if your in the area. I wish we had a place like this in Bako. Damn so I left without the Headband lol. Next time..

Like hundreds of others now flocking to this previously unknown strip mall sushi/hibachi place, the only reason we ate at Bushido was to take the spicy tuna challenge recently featured on "Man vs. Food." Most of the table ordered from the regular menu, featuring predictable hibachi entrees and pan asian favorites. I had a couple of rolls and a bowl of miso soup. Not bad, but definitely not worth the drive from downtown. Shi Ki has infinitely better sushi. Of the three chaps at our table who took the challenge, one made it through #3 out of 10 of the spicy tuna handrolls, each overflowing with gooey, saucy raw tuna, the next made it through #4, and the champ of the evening made it through #8, though not without considerable injury ("my asshole is quivering"). The real downer about this otherwise hilarious challenge is that the handrolls just don't taste very good, as all three competitors agreed. The spice is nothing to sniff at, but it's the volume that really hurts, not to mention all the chewing required by the seaweed wrapper. Service was okay, the atmosphere was high glare (never flattering on sushi), and the bathrooms were deplorable. The spicy tuna challenge is just a stunt to lure thrill-seekers into an otherwise mediocre restaurant.

Bushido is one of few sushi restaurants listed in West Ashley. It was crowded. Unfortunately, we waited 30 minutes for six sushi rolls. We waited for 20 minutes for 4 more sushi rolls though many people had gone home. At least the waiters were polite and courteous. The sushi was okay. Nothing to write home about...

Disappointed to the point we will never go back. I always give people the benefit of the doubt, and try and be as accurate at possible, but our experience went way past what is acceptable. While our server was friendly and I feel she did her best, the service was SLOW-and they weren't that busy. When our food arrived, my wife commented that her's felt like it had been in the fridge. I must admit I was there with a moderately rowdy bunch, as it was our friends birthday and 3 of us were doing the Man vs Food Spicy Tuna Challenge, and we were there to drink sake and egg our friends on. After ordering Sake, which was mostly cold when it got to us, they RAN OUT of carafes on a not so busy night, and had to bring us several small carafes, which were downed almost instantly, causing further waiting. When the Spicy Tuna Challenge started, they brought the first 5 of 10 to our 3 contestants, who then scarfed them down as quickly as possible, which was the hosts advice on Man vs Foods challenger. The first thing I noted was that it smelled more like the bait shop than fresh sushi, and I started hoping I wouldn't be hearing about painful after effects from the spicy food as well as food poisoning; I know I wouldn't have eaten that. I have not heard of any of my friends dying, though. Then, when asked for the second 5 out of 10 spicy rolls, it was almost an hour before they showed up, in a restaurant with 2 other tables occupied. But the following is the straw that broke the camels back. As time went on, the mood started to taper off due to the lack of service and food. I started to think that it might be strategy to sell more drinks by making us wait, but we couldn't get those either. But then, the Sushi assemblers started putting the last of our meal (the last 5 spicy tuna rolls) in to go boxes, and they turned the lights off in the kitchen. I went over and asked what they were doing, and they mumbled something ambiguous about how "boss man said to". They were trying to get rid of us. We paid a lot of money to go to Bushido and do their challenge and enjoy the ambiance, but we weren't able to. We all called BS on that, and insisted that they prepare them properly, which again, wasted more time. At this point, I went over to the cocky little manager/owner and asked him what was up, and he lied to me and said someone told him we wanted to leave. When I objected, he gave me a bunch of double talk that would make a politician proud, and I could not believe that I was being jerked around like this. He forcefully said to me" I was just over there and asked how you guys were" and I had to reply, that was over an hour ago and it's gone downhill since!" At that point, everyone was finishing their challenge of spicy bait tuna, and the mood was very somber at that point. Once they were finished and won their bandannas, I asked for my check, which took 35 minutes to get, and was not itemized so we have no idea what we paid for. There were no picture taking ceremonies by the staff, no birthday singing, all the things you get when you go to a hibachi restaurant. I fully believe that if it weren't for Bushido's tv presence on Man vs Food, they would not be here today. In my opinion, it is run by amateurs, both in the kitchen and customer service. Sorry this is so long, but there you have it. Stay away from this place. Miyabi is down the street and far better.

Drifter roll was outstanding. Very good. Everything else was a little meh. Edamame was flavorless. Spicy tuna roll was almost inedible(flavorwise, not spicywise). Most of the rice had a funny flavor and consistency that I didn't enjoy. I'll give this place another shot...maybe it was just a bad experience...That one roll was done so well I don't know how the rest could have been so bad, there is definitely talent behind that one, maybe the rest was just a fluke.

The sushi was great alone & the entrees were good...but I'd had better.

so sadly busidos has lost a star.

I have very mixed feelings about this palce. Had a sashimi salad and it was really good and i suppose that's it. The soft shell crab tempura was greasy, the rolls selection was not appealing - I did not know what to order even though I was hungry.

Next time..

-I went here while in Charleston because I saw it on "Man vs. Food". I had a friend with me and we were planning on taking the challenge but wimped out because the server told us that they had changed the final roll to a ghost chili pepper. we ordered som

Finished the Bushido's challenge. It was a pretty epic experience. I got tired of eating the spicy tuna rolls. The Shrimp Tempura appetizer is pretty good.
