What a community gem! I wish there was a shop just like this in my hometown. Just the right combination of deli, freshly prepared hot foods, wine, beer and general groceries and supplies. This was the perfect place for my family to grab a nice breakfast without worrying about it being too fancy for my young daughter. They also had yogurt and whole milk, which was all that she really needed while my husband and I enjoyed our croque madame and smoke salmon hash (SO. GOOD.). Amazing food. Great location. Nice atmosphere. Super convenient. No bull.

Great local lunch spot! We stumbled on Bull Street Gourmet & Market while walking on King Street. You walk in, head to the register and order your food. We got the soup of the day, tomato and pepper (yum!) as well as the pulled pork sandwich with homemade BBQ sauce. Talk about some great food! The three other people I was with also loved their food, an Italian sandwich, the prociutto special of the day and the chicken cranberry salad sandwich. We ended up getting 2 bottles of wine and stayed for 2 hours because we liked the ambiance so much. Fun little fact, the bathroom had a sugar scrub which made your hands feel great after washing them! Definitely worth visiting for a casual lunch (probably better for a quick stop, not a long one like we did) and for someone who enjoys picking out their own wine to have midday.

Beer and wine selection - awesome. Smoked Duck Club - great, but could use a little sweetness. I prefer the duck club from Brown Dog Deli around the corner. Mushroom Bisque - good, but a little on the salty side. My main issue, which will most likely prevent me from returning, was the swarm of fruit flies accosting me throughout the meal. I killed no less than 8 before I finished half of my sandwich. I tried to finish eating, but lacked the intestinal fortitude.

This place may be a little better suited for lunch time. Seems to specialize in duck and was looking forward to having some found out that they just sold last of it to the person in front of me. So decided to get a roast beef sandwich which was good. No side so order a soup or something to go with sandwich. Can get a little expensive as sides can be $4 or each. Parking can be tuff, but find a spot and enjoy the million dollar homes.

WOW. This place IS THAT GOOD. Had the cream of parsnip soup, yum. And then the Reuben. OMG. Enough said.

Omygosh. Let me just tell you. I can't even. The coq au vin was, as they say, sacré bleu ! The flavors were rich, the wine was alcoholic, and it was overall, a grand experience. I mean, if i were to throw up (either from eating too much of their more than generous portioning or the excess of wine) i would probably eat that croq au vin again. It was THAT GOOD. Ignore other reviews: go for dinner, get the special, pig out. I really wanted to make a pun using bull but whatever. Oh wait! Grab this bull by the horns. Nailed it.

I had the duck confit hash; she had a croissant with nutella and strawberries. She RAVED about the nutella and croissant. And, undeniably, it was quite good. But really - if something is slathered with a generous portion of nutella, how could it be anything else? My duck confit was so-so. The eggs were perfectly cooked, the duck was quite good -- but you could tell everything was very "separate", if that makes sense. Ex: none of the flavors were mixed, so each part of the meal was almost individual items instead of a cohesive meal.

I'm not sure if this place is a gluten free haven (despite having gluten free item menus) because I am not feeling particularly well after eating there today, but damn, if that duck confit hash wasn't one of the finest dishes I have had in a while! My husband didn't think the almond french toast was that great, but he agreed the hash was delightful (as I can tell by him eating all of it.) Nice selection of market items, though not sure why since it's all stuff I can get at the grocery store. It gives you something to look at while you're waiting for your food. This isn't a wait service place, another plus in my book. Not sure if I'll be back since they don't seem to have a handle on gluten cross contamination, but I will be thinking of that duck confit hash from now on. Please work on your cross contamination issues!

Very busy place for lunch, but we did not want to miss this experience. The dining area was appropriate for the size, and the market are, has amazing wines, and great beer selection. The shelves of food stuffs was interesting. The menu for lunch was a tough one. I wanted to try everything. I went with the Banh Mi sandwich. Great bread, pate, pickled carrot, cilantro etc... wow great pick, but the duck sandwich was going to be next. Definitely a top pick for eating.

Bull Street is a bit of a hidden gem on King Street (if such a thing exists) in that it is convenient to the touristy part of Charleston but is almost entirely filled with locals -- a good sign! The food menu is extensive with a great mix of salads and sandwiches. The prices are reasonable for the quality of food and each dish we ordered was thoroughly enjoyed. The service was friendly and we would certainly return on another trip to Charleston.

We got the smoked salmon blt, the croissant with nutells and strawberries, and the smoked duck sandwich. All very delicious. Sunday afternoons look slow so theere's plenty of tables open. Great service and speedy food.

This is a great little spot! It's right downtown but just far enough away from the college kids that it isn't super swamped all the time. You order at the counter from their array of fresh sandwiches, salads, breakfast items or specials. I was feeling a little bogged down from all the Super Bowl food from the night before so I opted for the chicken Caesar salad. My friend ordered the special of a short rib sandwich with a side of fries. We were given a # and then found a little table to sit at. The decor is very cute, especially since almost everything is for sale. The "market" section is on one side and consists of some local and specialty items, a decent amount of cold beer and wine, and some fresh produce and juices. Along the other side of the wall, where the tables are, are shelves with a variety of other items for sale. With all of this going on, they still manage to keep the place light and airy. They brought our food out to the table and it was as delicious as it looked. My salad was positively loaded with juicy chicken! I actually ended up with some chicken left over after my lettuce was gone. The dressing wasn't overly oily or thick and the croutons were crunchy and flavorful. The short rib sandwich was very tasty as well and the fries were super yummy. Now that I know that they serve breakfast all day long, I'm going to need to stop in and get one of their awesome looking strawberry and nutella croissants!

My mouth waters just thinking about it! Outstanding shrimp & grits, duck confit hash, eggs benedict and almond french toast. Can't wait to come back to sample the lunch menu and the well-appointed gourmet mini-market. Great wine selection and open, airy environment. Perfect for a leisurely breakfast, lunch or brunch, with trolley stops just outside the door. Fun for people watching or a casual date.

The food here was awesome, let me put that out there up front. I've never been one to drop ten whole dollars for a sandwich, but I'll be the first to say that the smoked duck was easily worth twenty. What blew me away, however, was the awesome service. Even though this was kind of an upscale/casual lunch joint, the staff jumped at the chance to bring us a highchair and heat up our baby food. Even though we were the only family-with-infant at the time, none of the other diners seemed to mind our presence. While the great customer service and complete lack of snobbery clearly has no place on Lower King Street, it's my hope that this great restaurant stays in place for a long, long time.

I'm currently sitting here sipping a classic macchiato, patiently waiting for some kind of hospitality on the complications with their wifi. Considering this is my second visit today, their food and overall set up of the store is amazing. However, customer service is atrocious. The manager REFUSES to look at me! And when I try to talk to him he brushes me off. I mean seriously how hard is it to reset your modem/router?! You can have great food but lack of customer service and integrity will eventually kick you in the butt.

A little pricy, but to be expected in downtown Charleston. My sandwich was 8 bucks with no side dishes. I ordered the roast beef, wife ordered chicken salad. She enjoyed her sandwich, I liked mine as well.

Stopped by here briefly to pick up a water while meandering around downtown... The 4 star review is for one thing.. Their wine selection! Being new to Charleston, I am not used to the lack of a decent wine selection at grocery stores.. Here, stores sell cheap wine for $10 over market price, and seem to lack any good, go-to options. Bull Street Gourmet & Market has a selection of wine that would make the snobbiest of us wine lovers weak in the knees. Kudos to whomever crafted the wine selection here!

This place is something else. Originally we had walked in and out of a place around the corner before I walked by this place. I saw on my Yelp app that there were quite a few breakfast spots down this road, and luckily I walked by here. I saw the menu in the window and it looked pretty good. There was a glare on the window that morning so I was blown away by the place when I actually went inside. It's so cool. They have a pretty good wine/ champagne selection to the left, and on the right there's a whole mini grocery area; full of great beers and a few other goodies. The counter menu is quite a bit bigger than the one in the window, and after talking to the really sweet girl at the counter I was able to find the plate of deliciousness that I'll get to shortly. Their menu is quite extensive with a lot of things that are quite rare on any menu. I got the Duck Confit Hash with over easy eggs, carmalized onions, mushrooms instead of the peppers, and some extra home frys with gravy as suggested by the girl at the counter. Wow, it was so amazing. The produce and meats seemed to be sourced locally and are extremely fresh.I can't remember exactly where I got the tomato I was eating, but it was definitely one of the freshest and best tasting I've ever had. I'm not big on tomatoes so that's saying a lot. I just couldn't believe how great the dish was, and honestly how cheap it was at that. I would have easily paid $20 for it. I can't remember how much it was, but for my girlfriends almond french toast, my meal and coffee, I believe it was about $20! Coffee was great as well. Chugged my cup as I was getting ready to leave. My girlfriends french toast was definitely the best I ever had, and I had to admit it even though my mom was there. The breads are all made in house, and when my dad surprisingly ordered biscuits and gravy we really found out how good they are. It tasted just like grandma would make it. One order is enough to feed a couple people easily. We all ate on it as a post meal appetizer...I felt like a real fatty, but it was totally worth it. During our meal we asked Lindsay about some hot spots to hit around town since we were only there for about 24 hours. She was just as sweet as the first girl at the counter, and I couldn't believe how much time she spent to give us some great advice for our stay. She whipped out a map to show us the sights as well as the eats. We pretty much modeled our entire trip off what she said, and let me say she was right on all accounts. Especially on going to have dinner at The Macintosh. Check out my review on them, and you'll see. Seriously, if you can't tell by now how thouroughly impressed I am of this place I don't know what else to say. I loved it, and will definitely be going back next time I'm in town and look forward to telling Lindsay all about the great time we had.

Glorious! My boyfriend and split the Smoked Duck Club (look at my pic for a delicious visual). It was really, really yummy. We also tasted their homemade Broccoli Salad and that was good too. They sell gourmet treats and a variety of beer. We opted for a few cans of local brews. Overall a very tasty mid to upscale deli. I would definitely return here next time I'm in the area. Service was great. Seating was plenty and casual.

This is a nice casual lunch spot among the pricey formal dining options along King Street. The atmosphere is more casual but still light, tastefully decorated, specious for the size of the place and overall enjoyable. And while we only sampled the sandwiches both my coworker and I left happy so you don't necessarily trade too much by a lower price tag. They offer pretty simple fare for lunch- sandwiches, salads, and soups. My sandwich was 7 dollars and I saw a few more hovering around 8, which is expensive for a stand alone sandwich- no side included, but not bad for a lunch in King Street. So if you're in the area, by comparison this is a pretty affordable option! You order at a counter and they give you a number and bring your food too you- this also makes it a good place for a fairly quick lunch as opposed to a more traditional sit down set-up. Something I was grateful for during my work lunch hour. I didn't poke around the various goods on the shelves and in the refrigerated section but I always appreciate that extra dimension if I want to grab a snack to go or something to bring home. My gripes were few and fairly minor: 1) They don't offer traditional sides- you can get a cup of soup- or get creative and purchase something in a pre-packed to-go container at the counter (at a quick glance it seemed to be various types of salads). I opted for a quinoa salad but found it pretty bland and unexciting. 2) I found my portobello sandwich had a bit of a skewed bread to filling ratio but I decided since every other sandwich around me seemed more packed that hopefully it was just a one-off occasion- and by the end I decided it was still a tasty sandwich, even though I would have liked more in between my pieces of bread. Though the other sandwich options didn't seem to suffer from this issue. My coworker got the meatball sub which looked A-MA-ZING. Even with those two complaints, I gave this place four solid stars so clearly the food and experience was good enough to offset my nitpicky-ness. BOTTOM LINE: you might like it to varying degrees- but I can't imagine most people not liking it at all. Scoot on down and check it out- and if you plan on being around King Street- definitely seek this out for an affordable but flavorful and filling lunch!

Cute atmosphere, reasonable pricing, varied menu, and little shop to buy goodies from if you're in the mood. Came for lunch with my mama and we were happy with the freshness and thought the atmosphere was cute. Good place for a quick, fresh lunch.

What word... YUM! Their sandwiches are delicious and quite sizable for the price. I usually only eat one half while in the shop and finish the other one later in the day. The food is extremely fresh and tastes fantastic. If you go during lunch hours, be sure to have someone standing on the look out for a table. They fill up super fast! The only issue I have is that it takes a while for the food to come out- even on a slow Saturday afternoon when there were only two other tables occupied. (We only ordered two sandwiches) I would recommend the sandwiches to anyone looking for lunch downtown! (I recommend the turkey sandwich or the club sandwich!

Bull Street always has amazing food, and their daily specials are even better. My one gripe is that they need to improve how they handle customers they're ringing up. It's not uncommon to stand in line for 10 minutes waiting to place your order or even to just pay for a bottle of water. They need to figure out a system to speed up this aspect of ordering, but it does become difficult when you're catering to tourists who have never eaten there before and have a million questions. When the line is long, PLEASE open the second register. Nothing frustrates me than seeing one of the employees behind the second cash register not ringing up customers.

This is one of those places that you stop in often for the sandwiches. It is a little out of the way at the end of King St, but worth the look. Sometimes it gets very busy and you have to wait, so don't be in a hurry if you go around lunch time. Seating may be difficult, but it turns quickly. Go! Frank G

Cute local larder/sandwich shop. My favorite is the smoked salmon sandwich. It's always delicious and enough and more to fill you up. The cuban and chicken salad are also great. Huge craft beer selection and a great assortment of organic soaps, cocktail mixers, and other pantry goods for sale.

I read about this place so my girlfriend and I decided to stop in to check it out. Everyone was very friendly, helpful, and accommodating to our needs from the minute we walked in, taking careful time to explain the menu and answer any questions we had. The food was amazing! I had the breakfast omelette, made with fresh egg whites (yes, the ones that you separate...not the liquid fake stuff), smoked salmon, capers, roasted mushrooms, and arugula. She had the Bull Street breakfast with smoked turkey, scrambled eggs, and fresh fruit. What can I say...George and Justin, thank you for everything! We will definitely be back!

Fried green tomato BLT was excellent, smoked duck club was pretty good, would be nice if it came with a side. All sides are a la carte and the quinoa salad was delicious. Nice wine selection, laid back, casual atmosphere.

Not particularly child-friendly; the employees all watched me struggling to create a contraption to hold the child in place to eat, and no one offered a high chair. I found the high chairs myself hiding around back after we'd eaten. And the place doubles as a gourmet grocery, meaning wine and other breakables within kid reach. The food was decent, but not worth the high price tag. Hubs and I had breakfast- 2 coffees, smoked salmon hash, almond French toast, and a side order of eggs and bacon--- for the bargain price of $39. Bit steep for my wallet. Probably won't go back.

I wanted to love this place but I can only speak to the market portion of the place. We wanted stuff for a charcuterie plate without driving to a grocery store since we were staying close by. We had very little choice on those items and the prices were a little on the ridiculous side and not much selection for anything really. There's barely enough to truly call it a market. I bet the sandwiches are good but we just didn't want something that heavy for dinner that night.

We recently spent a few days in Charleston, and I'm so glad we found Bull Street! We stumbled across Bull Street on our first morning and had a great breakfast sandwich -- egg, bacon and cheese on a croissant. Everything tasted fresh and amazing, and the service behind the counter was excellent. It was so good, in fact, that we returned for lunch! Gotta try the chicken salad on ciabatta. We discovered that Bull Street delivers, so we had breakfast delivered to the hotel for the next three mornings -- yogurt parfait, coffee, omelet are all great.

Went to Bull Street for brunch today with some friends after church. It's a pretty neat little place- part restaurant, part general store. You order at the counter and they bring you your food, as well as clean up after you (but they don't refill your drinks, etc, no wait service like that). I had a salad with grilled shrimp on it, and it was really tasty. The salad was $11 after tax, which was slightly pricey, but nothing on the menu was that cheap (I guess cheap for downtown Charleston, though). The salad was pretty good, but the dressing was a bit salty, so next time I'd ask for it on the side. They also serve breakfast all day on Sunday and have some neat breakfast options. The staff was super nice and all of us really enjoyed our food. They do take out as well. Great place to go on Sunday, and hooray for it being walking distance from my church.

Had the Bahn Mi sandwich here. Ham and Patè were great, but the baguette was a bit harder than I would have liked in a sandwich. All in all, fantastic food and great atmosphere!

Everyone in my party had an amazing sandwich, but the Asian chicken salad that I ordered was not very good. The chicken wasn't cut up and the mixed greens used were bland. Not what I expected but I would go back to have a sandwich.

Nailed it.
