Actually rating as a 4.5 stars. I hate that in the 2 years of my husband being stationed in the area we did not try this all day breakfast joint until the day we move away! I'm a big fan of breakfast foods and breakfast all day is what I'm used to having readily available in Southern California. This place isn't the best, but it does have enjoyable food at fair prices. I do have to mention this place charges to share food which I LOATHE. It shouldn't make a difference if people want to share a plate of food. In our case I would rather not waste food that I physically can't eat. Moving on to the experience...greeted and seated quickly which was just good timing on our part because this place became packed after we arrived. The staff was bustling about and great a multitasking and not negligent in the slightest to any of our needs. My husband ordered the chicken fried biscuit breakfast sandwich platter with a side of potatoes. I selected the vegetarian skillet and raisin toast and declined the grits. My husband really enjoyed his breakfast sandwiches and noted that his order would be more enjoyable if his eggs were over medium (they were fried and he was never offered an option or thought to ask). My skillet was alright, a bit of seasoning would have gone a long way to making it delicious. A bit of self served salt and pepper helped immensely. We also decided on the Italian berry cream cake to go, is a fellow yelper's photo of it is what beckoned me to this eatery. The small nibble I consumed as a test has me salivating for more. It is the most wonderful balance of light, moist, and creaminess that can be packed into a bite! 5 stars for the cake alone, 5 for the place if all their food had as much flavor and passion that the cake was obviously made with (this is coming from a person that hates cake generally!). Over all I definitely recommend this place and would return if I were in the area.

Love, love, love their breakfast! Lotsa food for the money too! Servers were very friendly as well. Usually try and eat here a couple of times when we visit the Charleston area.

Yummy in my tummy! This place is so cute, it's a mom & pop business with some serious menu selections and every day specials.. They have home made pies and I'm pretty sure I saw a lot of ice cream selections. They have everything from burgers to grits. If you're looking for a great restaurant here's your place.

Good food, great service! Per their sign they won't seat unless the whole party is there yet we saw 2 instances while we waited for a table of the whole party not yet in the restaurant!

Ate here twice in my 3 day vacation to charleston. Waited over an hr the second time but it was a packed house. The food was just as ordered. Not to often does a place get my over - medium eggs the way I like em. This will be a place I visit whenever in charleston. Thankyou....

Health food it is not. But the portions are huge and the prices are great. My iced tea never went empty and the staff were really friendly and patient with us and our many questions about the huge menu. I know this place is going to be a staple every time I'm craving a proper, hangover-killing southern breakfast. Complete with plenty of SC Bible thumping decor to remind you of what a sinner you truly are. Like my sweet Aunt down in Georgia, I think bear-e patch will love me regardless of my ways, and try to make me fat. And maybe save my soul a little. Good luck. I had the blue bird- a chicken wrap with blue cheese. And a side of fried okra. It was seasoned well, care went into it. Okra was great. This place looks like your standard greasy spoon, albeit much cleaner. But the quality is much more than the diner standard. You may well need a nap after this spot. For me, that means a place like this is doing it right. Oh yeah- Texas Pete is for weenies, everyone knows that- this place also has Tabasco. Kudos.

My parents work nights so their treat is this place every Tuesday. After visiting a few times myself I can see why! It's a local's diner favorite. They serve a full breakfast menu all day everyday except for Sunday (because their closed-don't see that much anymore even in old school Charleston). It's a seat yourself place wen it's slow and wait to be seat when it's packed during the peak and either way the staff is prompt to greet. The daily specials are on the quaint chalkboard covered wall, with items like red velvet or Carmel-pecan pancakes or toast amongst other lunch and dinner platters (which I rarely order as I'm a breakfast lover). Most everything is made in house by the owners so be sure to enjoy the amazingly fresh, thickly sliced baked breads an biscuits with your grits, BLT or country fried steak because not too many, even in Charleston, make their own. As for price-it's no Waffle House or IHOP but it's worth the 20$ for 2 to eat and be fat and happy. As a newly found regular, my favorite picks are: Sausage gravy biscuits, any of the breakfast specials and any of the skillets. My friends always enjoy their omelets and of course country-fried steak (which I enjoy stealing a price or two from).

Huge menu! Breakfast all day, which made choosing what to eat so hard. I finally narrowed it down to the French dip which was delicious. I kind of wish the bun had been toasted but it was still great. My side was onion rings. They were the best I've had in a while. My bf had some Charlie chicken sandwich which he practically swallowed whole. He loved it. He ended up getting a piece of chocolate explosion cake. It was rich and wonderful. The service was friendly and helpful and very sweet. Can't wait to go back and make my way through the menu.

2.5 is my rating for this restaurant. I can sum it up in one phrase. "great food, bad service." We arrived at the restaurant and stod at the "wait to be seated sign" for at least 5 minutes. About 5 employees saw us, passed us and did not acknowledge our presence. I understand being busy, but when there are empty tables and customers waiting to be seated, attention should be given to customers waiting to sit. At minimum, a hello and be right with you would have sufficed. When we were seated, we were not offered a drink for awhile. The service was slow, which is u derstandabke and acceptable considering the quality of the food. However, the lackadaisical attitude of the staff was unacceptable. They were quick to ignore customers and for the most part never smiled. The food made the visit worth the money, but the poor service left us wondering if we would return. Recommendation to Bear e patch: keep the food the way it is, train your employees to be friendly and remember that the customer comes first.

What a great place. The food is always solid here. They even had red velvet pancakes on the menu! There is something for everyone and the portions are huge. All of us cleaned our plates as best we could. Too much deliciousness!

Customer service was good Food was OK. I had strawberry French toast & it was dry & too drenched in chocolate syrup. Potatoes pancakes were really good though. Also the country fried steak was good, hard to mess that up. Atmosphere: mom and pop place. Conclusion: I'll be back to try their desserts. They looked great. As for the food, I'll probably go elsewhere.

Loved this hole in the wall local place. If you want some simple country breakfast this is it! The place is cute and has plenty of seating for many people. I love my eggs over medium well and no one ever cooks them right, but they got it perfect here. the bacon was melt in your mouth crispy and the French toast was so moist and flavorful!! They simply have perfected the usual morning breakfast. If we're ever that way again for business we'll def go back!!

I write this review after many visits to Bear E Patch and have found some common characteristics. Weekends will be crowded, so when Yelpers review and comment on long wait times on the weekends, it is just the way it is and its not going to change anytime soon. The portions are always quite large and all of the menu items I have chosen thus far, have always been a very enjoyable breakfast experience, as B.E.P.C has a large menu with new (specials board) and interesting meals. The ingredients are of good quality and it shows, the specials board is a must read before ordering any meal. Even though I do feel Bear E has many good qualities, I just can not give a higher grade as they lack in other capacities. ~Service: Of all of the dine in meals, breakfast is the easiest to serve and a little extra in the customer satisfaction category should be applied. We are not all morning people (I am) and the waitress is the first person many of us speak to that day. I feel we are made to feel like they wish we were that Last person of the day they wish to encounter. ~Price: I seem to always average a check of $25.00 for two people with the only additional side being coffee, with tip, that puts me easily at $30.00. ~The coffee is not very good at all, please double up the coffee to water ratio or invest in a better brand, as that 1st sip of coffee can not be redone for another 24ish hours..

It was nothing but basic food. Fake cream, butter, and pancake syrup. Pancakes very basic. Just nothing to rave about. Could represent any basic breakfast restaurant. Maybe it was the grits people like but did not try. Restaurant was very clean.

Excellent breakfast. I had the shrimp and grits. The shrimp was well prepared. The gravy was different. It was a white sauce with small chunks of breakfast sausage. Overall a good meal. The service was good, too!

I give this place 5 stars because when I lived in California for two years, I missed their breakfast SO MUCH! I'm kind of obsessed with this place for breakfast. I always get a scramble, but their lunch menu and DESSERTS look amazing. The other morning I saw these two old guys sharing an Oreo cookie pie. I almost ordered it at 9:30AM too.... This place is packed every weekend morning, so plan on waiting. Service is super friendly and as quick as they can be. YUM YUM YUM

Good solid breakfast. Contrary to some of the write-ups, the service was great. The waitresses don't seem to be "assigned" a table so anyone will help you. Maybe this is the problem that people were writing about. Our food was quick and we enjoyed it. I got the biscuits and gravy. My wife got the cheesecake pancakes. We both liked our food. Plenty of parking too - which is a challenge the closer you get to down-town. This is a bit away from downtown but if you are staying in the West Ashley area, then give the Bear E Patch a try!

Absolutely amazing omelets! Try the farmer's or lowcountry and you won't be disappointed. The grits are also fantastic!

Brunch / lunch today. Mom had the "Sandra Special" - grits, eggs, bacon & French toast. It looked good & she enjoyed. I had the meatloaf special - was good/OK had a lot of a seasoning to the meatloaf & mash potatoes that over whelmed. But over all a good meal. P.s. was a bit loud.

Everyone was so welcoming and pleasant. After living in Charleston for almost a year it took me awhile to stumble onto this quaint little cafe but it was worth the wait! A great place to get away from the touristy feel of downtown and still get an outstanding meal. Coffee refills for days, DEFINTELY a necessary stop when in town.

I went on a saturday morning, and the line was wrapping around the outside of the building. My girlfriend and I decided to come back later. We came back around 11:30 a.m. and the line wasn't quite so bad, so we decided to wait. Once we were seated we got paid no attention at all. I would like to say that the service was just slow, but there was no service at all. We sat there exactly one hour before we even got our food. All the waiting aside, the food was delicious. I had the James Island omelet, and my girlfriend had the Farmer's Skillet. Both were excellent. If I return to the Bear E Patch Cafe it will only be on a weekday. I do not like waiting that long to eat breakfast.

It has been far too long since I've been able to eat here, but the memory of it is fresh in my mind. As a diner officianado, I know that a diner does not have to be super polished, modern, and have white linnens. It just has to have one thing: GOOD FOOD. The Bear E Patch has that in spades. I highly reccommend the Chicago Omlette. It's the only place I've ever found that has it, and being from Chicago, I LOVED it! Stop in for a bite that won't break the wallet but will make your tastebuds happy.

This is a nice diner on 61 in West Ashley close to I526 and Citadel Mall. My wife and I have been here two or three times in the last year. The restaurant is clean and has plenty of room. This is a non smoking restaurant which appeals to our family. We have not gotten bad service or food when we have visited here. The staff is very friendly and helpful. The food comes out fairly quickly and looks good. I spoke to the waitress about the possibilities of them getting WiFi for their customers and she said she will talk to the owner about it.

Went to this diner the other day, and it was a pleasant experience! It wasn't the best I've ever eaten, but it was good. I can imagine myself going back there for a predictable menu item and getting consistent, delicious results each time. I would recommend their potato salad (tastes like Halo's if you've ever been there) and their pecan pie. Both were awesome!

I have been to this restaurant several times. I used to live West Ashley but now I live in Goose Creek so I don't get to come here often. I had the Peach Pancakes and some smoked sausage links. The pancakes were really big and the peaches were fresh made not the crap you get out of the can. Really Yummy. The smoked sausage was cooked perfect. It was split down the middle and some was burnt and some was not... PERFECT!! My son had the Berry Pancakes and they were the same but with with a Blueberry, Raspberry and Strawberry compote. I am not a Raspberry fan but it was still tasty! Great place for breakfast.... I dont think I have ever eaten there for lunch... Hmmm I guess i will have to try it.

Delicious omlettes, cozy atmosphere, grits are great and the service is too. Coffee is a little light for my taste but that's minor. Parking isn't too bad. The most expensive (and delicious ) item is $14 - seafood omlette. Get it!

When you enter, you walk into a ma and pop diner-like atmosphere with sage and garden hose green as the predominant colors. There are booths and tables for seating, and you sit wherever you like. The staff is friendly, and dressed very casual, and you pay your ticket at the front counter when you're finished with your meal. I had the Seaside Omelette, with cheddar instead of American, add mushrooms. I chose grits and a biscuit as my sides. What I didn't like about my biscuit was that they put the open faces on the grill for a few seconds. I prefer soft biscuits. On to the main event: The egg that cocoons the contents is cooked impossibly thin, and somehow they keep it from splitting. The seasonings they use for the contents are a perfect hint of spicy(the amount of heat in a medium heat salsa), with almost a Cajun taste. The scallops, shrimp and crab are fresh and tender and not fishy smelling or rubbery. Trust me, don't ruin this dish by not changing the American cheese to another cheese of choice. I also love honey in my grits... Try it!

Had the western omelet and it was just right. Covered the plate, with a side bowl of grits and sour dough bread. The food was great and service good also. They serve breakfast all day. You can't beat a small diner with good prices food and service. Can't figure out the name but who cares.

At 10am on a Saturday morning there was a line, but that was to be expected. Not expected: open tables and no one being seated. Then, when it was our turn to be seated, we were told to sit anywhere. Then why have a sign in the front that says "Please wait to be seated"? A line built up with open tables consistently during the hour we were there. The menu has a good variety and things you might not otherwise see, but my eggs Benedict had one medium boiled egg and one properly poached egg and the bread and eggs were drowned in the hollandaise sauce that was a bit on the lemony side. It was supposed to come with potatoes, but arrived with grits. When asked, the waitress said she thought I wanted grits because she over heard my boyfriend asking if I would eat his even though she asked if it was ok my meal came with potatoes as she took my order. Then seek clarification? She offered to get the potatoes, but I hate wasting food and I don't mind grits so I declined the potatoes knowing I wouldn't eat both. At least the Canadian bacon arrived on the side as requested by this vegetarian. Boyfriend reported that blue crab omelette was good, but watery from the veggies. When food arrived the waitress asked if we wanted ketchup or hot sauce to which my boyfriend responded yes. It never arrived and she never came to check on us until she was making rounds with the coffee pot for all customers. We finished and proceeded to sit for 5-10 minutes and watch while she served two other tables. Only after we stacked our plates at the end of the table did she tell us our check was ready at the register while standing at another table. It's noisy inside, which makes it very difficult to communicate and hear. This was our first visit and it will be unlikely we return.

Came here last Friday morning and the place was packed but me and my friend luckly got a seat. She ordered the breakfast quesadilla which was good but needed more meat in it. Most of the bite was just cheese and egg. I got the bacon, egg and cheese sandwich which was good as always with seasoned potatoes. Next time I think I will get it will hash browns cause the potatoes were little over seasoned.

I have enjoyed eating at this diner-type establishment at least a dozen times. I've been with at least 2 to 4 guest and our orders are always fast, fresh, hot, good value and delicious. Great variety of local faces and Bear-E signature stuff. The Montreal omelette is awesome! Always super fun, friendly and team oriented staff who are genuinely interested in making the customer smile and feel that family atmosphere. Prolly some of THEE best in all my Chucktown dining experiences actually. Gets very busy near noon hour, very limited parking on busy corner. Take out after lunch so expect a big line up coming in to pick up. Place can be a bit dirty/untidy after the big lunch rush. Well lit, open decor, lots of comfy benches by the windows and diner tables that can be a bit on the small side if seating 4. Deserts are reDONCulously good.

Super clean. Friendly. Quick quick quick and delicious. I'm from the south and these grits aren't like mamas but definitely the best I have ever ordered in a restaurant. I recommend ordering them.

We have had breakfast here 2 weekends in a row. Both times it was a delicious experience. They write the specials on the wall and there is something different every week. We tried the Shrimp and Grits and a Lowcountry Skillet which were both on the menu. You are helped by everyone on the floor. No worries about where's your waithelp because they are all helping each other out and couldn't be any more pleasant to do so. This team of close knit staff are friendly, quick and very happy to be here. Makes me feel like part of the family. Be adventurous and get a something listed on the wall.

So this place is the definition of don't judge a book by its cover. It is not the nicest building but the food makes up for it. Everything is delicious at this place!!! It reminds me of a littler diner that has amazing food. This is definitely a diamond in the rough for breakfast in Charleston and one of my favorite places to eat breakfast.

Been here twice and it wasn't memorable at all. Had the apple cinnamon pecan pancakes and was disappointed by the prepackaged apples and syrup. Boyfriend had the omelet and he wasn't disappointed but not wow'ed either. We did finish our plates as we were very hungry. Boyfriend made his version of the pancakes at home that weekend and they were much better than the restaurant. On the other hand, the staff is very nice and the facility is very clean. It is obviously wonderful for some, and we weren't angry, so I don't want to give a horrible review.

We went here for dinner tonight. I got the Greek salad and hubs got the open-faced ribeye sandwich with onion rings as the side. I really enjoyed my salad, I got the half but it was plenty big for me. The house dressing is good, it's pretty thin so I had to ask for a little extra, it's more of a vinaigrette than a creamy Greek dressing, but I like that kind better. Best of all, the salad had enough feta, tomatoes, green peppers, and black olives- I hate those salads that are almost all lettuce! Plus, the lettuce was romaine instead of iceberg, another win in the world of Greek salads. Hubs said he liked his sandwich, but I don't know that he'd go back and order it again. He wasn't too fond of it being served on buttered toast- think it was a little too butter-y for him (some of the menu items are a little Paula Deen-esque like that. We got a cone of ice cream on the way out- pralines and cream. Really, really good and the scoops are huge, big enough to share. It's a nice little mom and pops place with a very home-y feel. I'd go back and get the salad again- $5 for a salad that size is cheaper than the grocery store.

Let me start off by saying that the menu for this tiny little diner is massive! Which had me a bit nervous at first. But, fear not, for the food was actually quite good! Was it absolutely delectable, exquisite 5 star cuisine? Of course not. I really didn't expect it to be. But if you're looking for a cheap, nearby place to get huge portions of good food, you've found it.
