Mexican Cuisine
If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.
Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.
Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.

Friendly people, the place was clean... food was good. I liked the chips and salsa a lot. Tamales - not as flavorful as I would prefer. The Chicken Taco was a bit dry - plain, if you will. The Chalupa was just fine, but nothing that I would write home about. I would go back. I just was not impressed enough with the food to go with 4 stars. I feel a little bit bad about that so I'm going to say that a lot of this is personal preference and I can see how this place gets 4 and 5 star ratings. Maybe i will go back and try other items on the menu.

We went to this place to try a new Mexican Restaurant while visiting the in-laws. When we first walked in the door we were greeted with smoke and loud music. We were seated away from the loud music and the smoke thankfully, but seriously who allows smoking inside their restaurant anymore? The chips, salsa and queso were great! No one at our table was really blown away by the food, although it was decent. The place was clean. The waitress was horrible. The lady was extremely unhappy to be helping us. She didn't smile once the entire service, and I was being overly nice. During the meal she was seated two tables away from our table, folding napkins and talking with the other employees. She was so focused on folding those napkins that I had to go ask her for the check and then return the check to her to pay before we could leave. I am fairly confident that the other waitresses/waiters were better but we will not risk it by returning.

THE WORSE I ever had. I was craving Mexican food decided to try. I sat at the bar no bartender and when he did come back he was smoking not what I want to smell when I eat. The place was dead and the service sucked. THE FOOD equally as bad chicken was dry and tough chorizo had no flavor rice was dried out and the beans had no flavor. Waited 10 min for my check. AWFUL

Iama Critic Rating - El Patron Mexican Restaurant - 4 Stars 186 Station Drive, Anderson, SC Overall: Extremely rare four star Mexican restaurant. Independent Mail voted them best Mexican restaurant in the Upstate eight years in a row. We say they are in the top three in the Upstate! Now about that boring rice and beans! Our visit to El Patron was surprising because we have eaten at countless Mexican restaurants that serve the exact same boring quasi Mexican food. But except for the rice and beans, every item we had at El Patron was exceptional. And the prices for the quality and quantity of food received meant that El Patron is quite a dinning value as well. So we believe El Patron is one of the top three Mexican restaurants in the Upstate of SC, and that is saying a lot! Table Chips - 4 Stars The chips are above average, but the salsa is the absolute bomb! Especially El Patron's "Super Hot"! They could only be better if they were chunky! $5.50 Patron's Chunky Guacamole - 4 Stars This guac' was made fresh right a my table. The flavor was strangely "flat". But with a little lemon and salt it was vastly improved. Which proves my point, never give up until your food is just right! $14.75 El Patron Sampler appetizer - 3 Stars This appetizer came with chorizo nachos, lettuce and cheese, a quesadila with sour cream and pico de gallo, chicken fried taquitos with cheese sauce, chicken wings and grilled shrimp on a stick. And as I look at my photos, I just realized, I don't see any shrimp on a stick! Oh man, I was robbed, and I always deduct one star for any form of false advertising, so this four star dish gets kicked down to three. $16.00 Cuatro Patrones - 4 Stars Which, as advertised, comes with everything! Beef, pork, shrimp, chicken and veggies, all of it near perfectly prepared. This entree is a meat lovers Mexican dream! Every last morsel was fabulous! $6.50 Huevos Con Chorizo - 4 Stars This magnificent dish of two eggs and chorizo came with excellent rice and nearly perfect grilled vegetables. Side of rice and beans - 3 Stars The only three star items we had during our entire El Patron experience. The rice and beans were boring and average, so they get an average rating. One wonders how Mexicans actually cook beans and rice in Mexico, because I can't believe it would be boring and spiceless!

I agree with some of the other 3-star reviews. This place was just ok. The smell of smoke was pretty strong when you walk inside. I hate the smell of smoke. The salsa was great, but the chips were thick and not very crispy. They had a bad oil taste to me. We got chicken fajitas, which were ok but my husband felt the chicken was bland and dry. Servicer was neither pleasant nor unpleasant, she was just blah and never did smile. I'm not sure if I would go back. No bueno.
