Iama Critic Rating - El Arriero Mexican - 3 Stars 4355 Hwy 24, Anderson, SC Overall: The service was pretty slow and inattentive with a preference toward groups. I would think a guy with a camera would garner a little more attention. The food was hit or miss also. You gotta wonder about a Mexican place that only has three items that have chorizo out of hundreds of items. Table Chips - 3 Stars The tortilla chips are as ordinary as they come. Table Salsa - 4 Stars The regular salsa is not chunky at all, but it has a creamy texture that sets it a step above most. The hot however is slightly chunky, spicy, hot and beautiful. $5.50 - Chunky Guacamole - 4 Stars This is very chunky guacamole, but surprisingly bland. I mixed a little hot and mild salsa in it and that did the trick. Good stuff. $11.25 - Mojarra Frita - 3 Stars I have had my fill of Mexican whole tilapia. All the restaurants where I have ordered it serve tiny little tilapia that render five or six bites per side. I call fish this size "BAIT". And all of them have been over-cooked (fried). For now on I am getting my cooked tilapia from Asc Fresh Seafood in Spartanburg, where they cook fantastic 2lb whole tilapia. $10.25 - Arrachera - 3 stars When Mexican restaurants say grilled rib-eye, they mean a tiny thin slice, no more than 1/8" thick. And the salad this entrée comes with can not be considered a salad. It is just iceberg and a single slice of green tomato. I threw it out. The rice is the same boring rice you have had a thousand times. I need to find a use for take home rice rather than throwing it out. The cheese enchilada however had a wonderful brown sauce that tasty very good. And the stuffed poblano, not bell pepper as the menu states, was simply great, and the chicken filling was three times better that the awful steak! $3.50 - Taco a la Diablo - 4 Stars I ordered this single a la carte taco special. It was filled with grilled onion, chorizo and beef steak. It was the best thing I tasted all night. I found chorizo in only three dishes on the menu, and one was the most expensive entrée they had. This taco was the only way I could get chorizo without chicken.

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate.
