This is actually the worst service I have ever had in my life. The entire restaurant staff is rude and unaccommodating. We had to leave before we even ordered because we were so disgusted with the negative and upsetting energy of the staff, especially 2 of the bartenders. Do not go! They do not deserve your business!

Food was flavorful and freshly prepared. The calamari jack style was well made, not overcooked, melted in your mouth. I found it a family friendly restaurant it is not a kid friendly restaurant. The difference is that they don't have crayons and chicken fingers. They have plenty of options for my six year old. Might have been a five if it weren't for the attitude of waitress. Don't know if it's the area but we felt as if we were interrupting her day by eating in the restaurant she works at.

Food was good, especially the fries. Had the lobster roll (on a cheap hot dog bun-boo!). Lobster was good and so was the burger. BUT server was snooty and service was slow - took 30 min to get our food. And, it was expensive. Would expect better service for the price.

I've been going to the Olympia Tea Room every year for the last 20 years with 4 star results on most visits. My last trip there on Fathers Day proved to be anything but. We asked to be seated outside and when we sat down we noticed every food imaginable under the table. We were afraid to put are feet down. Then there was the food. I've always praised the size of the hamburgers there but they must have changed the size for 2012. It was something you would find on a children's menu. (which they don't provide). My wife has always been a fan of Margherita Pizzas so we ordered one of those also. When that came out we found soggy tomatos and processed cheese on raw dough with no basil. When we expressed our total dissatisfaction with our meal to the waitress, her response was 'I'm sorry to hear that'. Well we paid our ridiculously high bill and went on our way, never to return again. The food has changed for the worse.

High quality food in a picturesque location; the highlight of our four great meals included a locally made sausage that was so good it literally left two of us speechless. Our server was very busy, but always friendly and attentive. On the downside, the space is very small (I banged my knees both getting in and out of the booth) and can get loud. All in all, a great place for couples looking for some wonderful food.

My most vivid memories of this place will always be passing it on my way to the beach as a little kid. I never understood why such a fancy-looking restaurant would be right on the beach! It seemed so out of place among the ice cream and bathing suit shops. Today, it's among real estate offices and kitchy art shops. But I digress. Now that I'm (gasp) an adult, I've now been here a couple of times! I wouldn't stop here on my way to or from the beach, as you need to be somewhat presentable and not, you know, wet to belong with the crowd. You will see the locals dressed up, and the tourists a little less so. Definitely more khakis than jeans in attendance, and a few older men in suits. The food is good! I wish there was a little more seafood on the menu, but there are a few shellfish dishes that made me happy. The Coquilles Saint Jacques and Linguine with Clams were both yummy. I guess I'm not happy until a restaurant offers crab legs. :) Service is a little slow, but you're on vacation right? Where do you need to hurry off to? Oh! And I suppose it is worth mentioning that "Tea Room" is a bit of a misnomer. It's really a full restaurant with a full bar and extensive wine list. It's right across the street from the yacht club, so maybe if you hang out at the bar at the right time, you'll meet a special someone who's a boat owner! Wouldn't that be a catch. They do not have a grand selection of tea, if that's what you're looking for. Just the standard selection of black, green and decaf.

If you've been to this exclusive Watch Hill area, you know that there isn't much competition near this restaurant - only real estate offices, boutiques, a seriously old carousel and beach. That said, the food is fresh and tasty. It's pricey for lunch i.e. think $12 burger, $18 salad but if you're tired of walking around, its a good place to bail into for a while. Don't expect any big city treatment here. This is a beach bar essentially with better than bar food. Here's the deal: Drop the kids off with an auntie, show up whenever, have several cocktails, forget that you came there for dinner and be pleasantly surprised when someone tells you your table is ready. If you follow that, you'll have a wonderful time!
(3)Joe S.
Don't go there. The owner is a bitter man who doesn't deserve your business. We've been there several times over the last couple of summers and the owner and one mean bartender act like they're annoyed you're at their restaurant. As a patron you are a bother to them. They are Children haters even well behaved polite ones who've dined in the finest restaurants around the world! Take 10 minutes, drive to stonington to skippers dock and have beautiful dinner on the water with a welcoming staff. Truly- the owner is the rudest meanest host of any restaurant I've ever been in. He is deplorable!!!!!
(1)Joe T.
Unless you're going for dinner skip this place. My family and a guest tried to go in on a Friday night after 9:15pm. Though tables were visibly empty both in and outside the restaurant, no waiting customers, and telling the hostess we were there for coffee and dessert, after checking with the manager/owner, we were told that dinner was being served and to come back later for coffee and dessert.
(2)Da B.
Great food and menu. Very expensive but worth the atmosphere and it is Watch Hill after all! Eat outside and it's worth every penny!! Good date night... Great people watching. Staff is good.
(5)Larry S.
Great to enjoy a casual meal at our pace; go back off season and enjoy. Good selection of beers and wines. We had the zucchini appetizer with fresh tomatoes and basil and also the soup special - sweet potato and apple. Not to sweet, perfect for a cool drizzly fall day. Pleasant service and great views of the harbor. We will be back.

Horrible woman works here. I was there 10 minutes ago with a party of 4 and an 8 month old. I was told no highchairs, no table where I could pull my stroller up to.... And basically was asked to leave. Not child friendly will never eat here
(1)Jen k.
Visited for an early dinner 4:30 on a Friday. Good thing because when we walked by 2 hrs later there were people lined up on the sidewalk! The wait staff friendly, Good menu, great drinks coming out of the bar. Guac and pita chips for an appetizer tasted homemade, very good. My husband had the Ahi Taco's and was in love! I had total food envy the entire meal. I had a salad with grilled chicken that was basic, but just what I ordered. Good stuff.

Olympia tea room watch hill Rhode Island Owner is a total jerk He is insulting and rude. The food is okay if you don't mind the attitude.
(2)Rachel S.
Adorable dining spot in Watch Hill. With not many sit-down options, we gladly plopped down after a stressful 20 minutes of finding parking. While the hostesses weren't the peppiest, our waitress made up for that and was great. We shared the calamari (YUMMMM) and I had the appetizer size clam pasta for my meal (perfect portion). My girls had the burger (fries were tasty) and a chicken cesar salad (big portion). We also got drinks (sangria, bloody mary, and vodka soda) all decently strong and not too crazy $$. I'd definitely go back next time I'm there, plus I hear T Swift makes appearances on Sundays.
(4)Dawn S.
Attitude from hostess was awful. Restaurant was empty, bar was full. Asked for a table and hostess asked if we were having lunch. We said no just drinks and she said you can stand at the bar or buy drinks and go sit outside on the benches. We promptly left!
(1)Ashley Y.
This is a really nice place and the staff is really on top of their game.. They have great local and fresh ingredients and their menu is pretty diverse.. They have a great wine list and its nice to sit outside and have a cocktail. Only complaint is sometimes the staff can be a little snobby and prices are high.. Also this is not a place to come in your bathing suits and men wearing tank tops... This is a very nice restaurant and while its in a beach town do not come in your beach clothes.. Take the time and effort and dress up a little and realize you are going to spend some $$
(3)Andrew J.
Stopped in Watch Hill for lunch on a recent drive from CT to Newport. The Olympia is a cute place with some history, and appears to be the only real restaurant in town, as opposed to just a sandwich shop, etc. Things started out OK...ordered the local Grey Sail Ale on draft and a seafood salad in a cantaloupe, which was supposed to feature shrimp and lump crab meat. When the salad arrived, I thought it was a joke. It contained exactly one medium sized shrimp and three forkfulls of crab....for $18. I left feeling hungry and ripped off. Sorry Watch Hill but your "one horse" restaurant is taking advantage of you!

I'm not really sure how I ended up at this restaurant. My friend who was familiar with Westerly was put in charge of choosing our dinner, and next thing I knew we were in the car and en route to Olympia Tea Room. My friends and I rolled up with no reservation, and the hostess said it would be about 20 minutes, but low and behold, they were ready to seat us after we walked over to the bar. Food was amazing!! Service was amazing!! Our waiter was young, but funny, friendly and super attentive. The bread we munched on while waiting for our appetizers was awesome, it came with olive oil (mmm) and roasted red pepper hummus! It wasn't your typical roll, it was like a flat bread pita roll hybrid. I'm not sure how to describe it, but it was awesome! My salad was delicious, and my friends got oysters and clams to start that they described as awesome and super fresh and perfect. There were many main courses to choose from, with specials too. Three of the four of us got appetizer sized pastas - it wasn't simply a small amount of pasta on a plate, but they were served in these dishes that were like inverted top hats, with the perfect space hollowed out for the pasta! Greens and Cream pasta was delicious, and I'm not even a huge fan of alfredo/cream sauces. Then, dessert! The Ghirardelli cupcake was absolutely decadent and amazing. I split it with my friend and although I am a huge dessert fan, there is absolutely no way I could have come close to eating it all myself. The cupcake was seriously the size of my head, cut in half and filled with coffee ice cream, with whipped cream and fudge. Seriously the best way to end the night. The thing about vacationing in Rhode Island is that things are fairly cheap. Blue Moon beers were only $5, and the pastas were only like $8 or $10. Still, everything added up to a fairly expensive bill, but it definitely wasn't excessive, especially when you consider how great our food was. We were all very drunk by the end of the meal, but I feel that drunk or sober, you'll always be wowed by the food.
(4)Mike M.
This place sucks. Only in business because of location. "hover and grab" is how they seat people. Food is overpriced, all about location.

No idea what everyone else is talking about regarding the low grades for Olympia. Easily the best lunch/dinner spot around Watch Hill and Westerly. Olympia has great food and a great atmosphere. I come here a couple times a month during the summer and I always sit outside. There is sometimes a small wait for a table as there are only 6 outside, but it's well worth it. The food is great. Great salads, great appetizers, and great sandwiches. I would recommend the Greek salad, any of the carpaccios, and the lobster roll. The have daily specials which are also always great. If your in the area looking for a bit to eat, Olympia is a no-brainer.

Last night I went in for dinner. I started out with a fantastic Blood Orange Margarita that was not only tasty but refreshing. Next a Cobb Salad with blue cheese dressing that was creamy a delightful, followed by the Linguini and White Clam Sauce. The clams were very fresh and the sauce had a great zip that stimulated my taste buds. Finally for desert was the Grilled Pound Cake with fresh strawberries and ice cream, a great finish to a great meal. I must say every time I go I can always count on delicious food, refreshing cocktails and professional personnel with hospitality. The Tea Room provides a great dining experience that you can't find anywhere else.
(5)Chalise G.
First time here and I'm in love with this place. Was asked immediately by all available waitstaff if I had been helped or needed to sit. My party and I chose to sit at the bar, and that was a definite success. Bartender Jaclyn is amazing, she knew the menu inside and out and went above and beyond to help our party get exactly what we wanted. I would definitely suggest getting the calamari appetizer Jack's Way, it was fantastic, and a Bloody Mary or a red or white sangria.
(4)Jennine L.
The lobster roll is NOT what you might expect; it's a cold mayo based salad with chopped celery. Plenty of fresh chopped lobster, but if you ordered it hoping for warm and buttery be aware.
(3)Debrin S.
Love the wine corks that fill in the bottom 1/2 of the windows. Great views of the water. There is seasonal bistro dining. I don't love the decor- Pepto Bismal pink! But it's open, airy, high ceiling, decent long bar. The bartender was nice & happy to share daily cocktail specials & wine list choices. The menu is beautiful. Creative. Fair prices for the area. Small bathrooms, street parking.

Let me just say that it makes zero business sense to me that the owner of the only dine in restaurant in town would not cater to families with children. We even called the restaurant in advance to inquire about a children's menu and we were told they did have one. We got to the restaurant and were told at the door that they did not have high chairs or booster seats to accommodate small children. This would have been nice to hear on the phone from them when we called to inquire. My only advise to the man that owns this establishment.....Restaurants are a dime a dozen even if they are across the street from a Yacht Club. The six of us found a great dinner else where and I have told everyone I know that if traveling to Watch Hill, avoid the Tea Room.

I wish that we would have checked Yelp before going for dinner at the Olympia Tea Room. The reviews, which I read a couple of days later, would have steered me elsewhere. I am assigning two stars based on location and the cute decor ( there are lots of fun paintings on the walls), but not on food or service. I am still new to Yelp and have written only a few reviews, in all of which I have commented upon vegetarian options. This is the first place we have gone where the restaurant was unwilling to alter any dish to accommodate a vegetarian. There was just one main dish on the menu that was not primarily meat or fish -- it was a lobster risotto. I asked to have the risotto without lobster, but this was out of the question. Meaning that the food is all already prepared -- forget thinking there is a creative chef in the kitchen preparing each individual's meal to order! I decided to have a salad, but as I was hungry and had been looking forward to eating a hot dinner, I ordered two hot appetizers: onion rings and sweet potato fries. These turned out to be huge, each one served in a big paper cone. Fortunately my dinner companions helped me eat them. The fries were greasy and limp, but the onion rings were good, and the sauces served with them were nice. The salad was okay, neither particularly interesting nor particularly bad. All told, this was a very mediocre culinary experience, but we were on holiday and with friends -- the company was great and the food didn't matter. I should add one other comment: I was very put off by the service. We were there late enough in the evening that there were not people waiting for our table, but it was too early for the staff to be trying to close up and go home, yet our server kept clearing things from our table every time one of us seemed to have stopped eating, and she brought the check while we were still sipping our wine. This felt like a not-so-subtle cue that we should leave.

Not kid friendly! Don't even think about coming here with kids. They do not offer any kind of high chair or booster seat and do not have any kind of a kids menu (a clear statement that they do not welcome families with small children). I am a new mom and just learning how to dine out with small kids, I understand that there are some places where it is better not to bring the kids, but when a family is on vacation in a small town with few dining options what are you supposed to do? The answer is: skip this place if you've got kids, as another reviewer said there are other options close by in Westerly and Misquamicut where you will feel more welcomed. Just for the record on a recent trip to NYC we visited some very exclusive restaurants that were extremely accommodating with the children/ babies in our party, get over yourself Olympia Tea Room.

Well I didn't have much here but I'm going to review it anyway. This is a classic example of being at the right location in a rich beach town. Came to Westerly for a day trip with my bf. We took a long walk on the beach and it was really cold and windy. We wanted to warm up with some tea. So, thinking that the Olympia Tea Room was a team room, we came in. It's RIGHT at the beach entrance near all the shops, so they clearly have a kind of monopoly in the area. It's a big place that seems to have won some wine awards, so maybe having a real dinner would be a better time to come here. But I think not because they serve ridiculously cheap food at ridiculously un cheap prices. My bf just got a coffee to warm himself up, and I tea. They gave me a pot of hot water, which is nice. I will admit the place seemed to have decor and cater to an upscale audience. But, our waitress for one was really slow and seemed to space out a bit. I saw her knock over a glass over water into another customer across the way, yikes. I got the "lobster bisque"- a cup at $4 (on the bill, she charged me $6 for the bowl, which I corrected). It was not lobster bisque- tasted straight for the can or box, had zero lobster in it (not even chunks), and the broth was so watery I have no idea where the creaminess of lobster bisque went. It tasted like a watery version of fake tomato soup- even you can imagine such a thing possible. Olympia Tea Room is a no go and if there is really nothing else in the area, I'd rather just cook or drive to Mystic.
(2)Hector L. V.
Worst service ever! If I wanted to be treated like shit I'd eat at my toilet! Prices are high services is terrible!
(1)Ric M.
I don't get the bad reviews on this place either. Guys, it's not really a "tea room". The only thing I can come up with is that too much sun and sand makes some folks cranky. Yeah, don't go if you are in a rush, and don't go if you have no sense of humor. We have had several excellent meals at the bar, with personable, professional wait staff, and lots of friendly chit chat with neighbors. Food was excellent, drinks cold and well made. As for not kid friendly, that's what the ice cream stand up the street is for. Frankly I don't miss the little beggars crying for their chicken nuggets. Compared to the only other place in town, the Ocean House, it's cheaper, funner, and less pretentious.
(4)SarahIvan L.
We sat at the bar to watch the world cup and had a great afternoon! Our bartender Jackelyn was VERY knowledgeable and well versed with high-end & common drinks. I have to say, she is my favorite bartender in my 8 years of experience. Her witt and personality kept us entertained and well cared for over our couple hour visit. For the quality of appetizzers and beverages, the price was surprisingly fair. We will definitelly come back to visit.
(4)Shaun L.
I was a little surprised by all the negative reviews, since I had nothing but a great memories of this place from my one previous visit (2010). No matter, we decided to go again for dinner on 8/2/12 and sat outside with Brittni as our waitress. We enjoyed the sweet potato fries as an app, had a few pink grapefruit martini's and enjoyed the excellent service. Brittni was attentive, pleasant, timely and made good recommendations. My wife had the half of spaghetti bolognese and I had chicken parm. The only minor thing was my wife wished there was a bit more sauce on the bolognese and I had remembered the parm being a bit more crispy. Neither of which had a negative impact on our meal. We had desserts of Ghirardelli cupcake and the Rum Gingerbread, both were delicious. We would go back for a 3rd time.
(4)Steve R.
Food was OK overall. NE chowder and scallop dinner were very good. Everything else was average. Service was good. I'd give it a 4 rating, but the high prices warrant better quality food.
(3)Toby H.
Leave the kids at home. This is a grown up restaurant and I (despite having 4 kids) am totally fine with that. The restaurant is intimate with attentive service and a menu that offers great mixture of modern American, super fresh seafood and some great Italian pastas. The Manager is not rude, in fact she came over and chatted with us and asked us how we were enjoying everything. Yelpers listen carefully --- DO NOT BRING YOUR KIDS ----- you will have a whole different dining experience. My only compliant about the joint was that for a "tea room" this Englishman found their offering to be very weak :o) Lovely romantic night out with food that was perfectly portioned and pace perfectly so we were able to enjoy the night. Being European we dine on the later side so those people who think that just because they can afford to bring the kids here that they should, well they were leaving shortly after our first glass of wine arrived. Eat Well Providence...and know that sometimes you need to get a babysitter
(4)Colin B.
Like crowds? Like waiting? Like being seen as an imposition the minute you walk in --from the hostess with her back turned to the door? Like standing at the bar and remain unrecognized for minutes while regulars get served and you get jostled by waitstaff trying to squeeze through the crowd? It's a decent sized dining room with outdoor seating but unless you HAVE to sit at a table, stalk the bar for an open seat. Then be prepared to wait some more. I was sitting next to some regulars who chatted me up so the bartender (one of two who could barely crack a smile) noticed me and warmed up a bit. Good wine list, decent menu. and quick kitchen moves this up a star from the one based on first impressions. Don't go here if you can't wait at least 35 mins to be seated. Also alittle pricey but then so is the Ocean House.
(2)Bill S.
For all the people who panned this place, realize that OTR is really a club. Either you belong or you don't. If you get it, and play nice, you will have great service and a reasonably good meal. If you don't, you will be treated like an uncivilized intruder. They don't need your business. Their formula has worked since 1916 and the regulars like it that way.
(4)Christine B.
The manager was extremely rude yesterday. Why can't children eat at the restaurant? If the kids were chilly outside you should have moved them inside. This lady obviously has never had children. We have been spending money in this restaurant for years... Learn how to speak to paying guests or go get a desk job at a computer. Shame on you! PS- Liar Liar pants on fire!! The kids did NOTHING wrong!
(1)Richard J.
First, the food is . . .and always has been . . . very good. However, it has always been difficult getting past Olympia Tea Room's shabby treatment of customers. We have felt poorly treated here before and still do. The two stars are only because the of the good food; none for how they behave toward customers. If an establishment states they do not take reservations, why is it every time we visit there are tables with RESERVED placards on them? On a recent visit (Friday, May 8), my wife and I were compelled to stand and wait while one empty table of six sat RESERVED as the staff set another table for a different group of six. I asked the hostess who, after attempting to shuffle first my wife and then me to the bar, about the restaurant's reservation policy. She said they take none. When I asked, she stated the RESERVED table was for "friends of the owner." So when we visit and there are two or more reserved tables (as we have observed in the past), are these ALL for friends of the owners?? We were there last week (2015 opening night); we waited while a couple who arrived after us were seated before us. When I asked why, I was told that the couple "had called to put their name on the list." Excuse me, is this unlike taking a reservation? So I thought I'd try this and called on May 8 and said we would be arriving in 15 minutes and asked to be, "put on the list" and were told no. Their treatment goes beyond poor policy and customer service and touches on snobbish elitism. You're good Olympia, but you're not THAT good. My wife and I left and went to the Watch Hill "house near the ocean" up the hill. We got top-notch food AND treatment. Looking through other YELP reviews, I cannot help but notice that Olympia has a long history of crummy treatment of customers.

Have eaten here several times over the past year and my conclusion is: average food propped up by a great location. Inside is dark and feels a little old, salty and a little cramped. Outside is more enjoyable due to the western view over the harbor. The menu is predictable and simple for a New England ocean-side location. Service has been good enough but inconsistent. They're not the most friendly place. One night my son(age 12) was asked to leave their bar area while standing with me as I ordered drinks. He was there to help me carry what was going to be a 5 drinks outside while we waited for our table. We skipped the order due to the rudeness. They don't take reservations unfortunately and not interested in accommodating large parties, even with plenty of notice. We made reservations elsewhere. Biggest asset is location. Reminds me of too many Cape Cod restaurants that have become "institutions" of their respective towns that rest on their location laurels and not interested in pushing high service or quality that you'd hope comes with the longevity.

I have been holding back on writing a review for a while. Visited this restaurant twice in the last two weeks. And hoped my experience the first time was a fluke. **SHOCKER** it was not. Ordered a burger and calamari the first visit which were deserving of a 3-star review on their own. However, the waitress we had was not very pleasant. She was curt and flippant likely because we shared 1 cheap entree and appetizer between two people, but that's no excuses for being rude. Our next visit the waitress was way better but the hostess was pretty nasty. We requested to be seated at one of the tables next to an outlet so we could charge one of our phones, once she realized this was the reason we wanted that table she removed the menus and scurried us to another table while muttering something about not being allowed to charge phones. I was confused, and after she reseated us I sat there for a minute very confused about what just happened. After replaying the scenario in my head, I was convinced she must have miss heard me and it this was just a miss understanding. So I walked over to her and asked if there was anyway I could charge my phone, perhaps not at the table but anywhere. She arrogantly responded that she couldn't allow me to do that because it is a liability. I laughed because I genuinely thought she was joking and light heartedly asked if instead of them plugging it in I could take the "liability" and do so somewhere. Again I was shot down. I understand if that is your policy as ridiculous as I may find it. However, there is no reason to talk to a customer like that. I don't care how good your food is, or how expensive your Patagonia. I would recommend another high nosed place to eat in the area but they are the only sit down and the only restaurant period open late. So jokes on you, they can pretty much treat you however they want I guess!
(1)Bethaney S.
I never had the opportunity to eat here so I can't give a full review, however I can tell you the customer service is lousy. My husband and I tried to go here on a Sunday night with our one year old son. The place looked somewhat busy - I approached the hostess stand and was greeted by a young girl. I asked if they had room for 2 and a highchair. Her reply was "we don't have highchairs" and continued to stare at me like I had 5 heads. I understand it's a nice restaurant but it's in a beach town- I don't understand how they do not have proper seating to accommodate children. I was hoping this girl would give me a second option but when she just stared at me I turned away and left. I don't think I'll be back to this restaurant anytime soon. I felt A little discriminated against for having a child!
(1)Shawn S.
I had never been to the Olympia and convinced my family to go. On the positive side, the linguini with clams was good, the prices were fair for Watch Hill, and the calamari was good. My only warning is that they do not take reservations so be prepared to wait - we went on a Monday night and waited for 40 minutes. The hostess was quirky - she was not warm and welcoming the night we were there and lacked people skills. Maybe she was pissed that we weren't Taylor Swift. The server was friendly but the bar service was slow - had to wait for a LONG time for our wine order. It is loud inside, hard to have a conversation. The tables are tight. I don't know if we will go back.
(2)Collin S.
My wife and I had heard good things about Olympia from a friend, so we wanted to try it while we were in the Westerly area. We went for dinner on a Thursday night, and the place was crowded but not too loud. We were given a 15 minute wait time for a table, and that was more or less accurate. All of the staff who we dealt with in the restaurant were friendly and attentive, and we were very happy with our waitress. For appetizers, my wife had a tomato salad with mozzarella which was lightly dressed in balsamic. It was a nice, light start to the meal that highlighted the tomatoes. I had the clam chowder which was solid - very creamy with a sufficient clam flavor (i.e. you didnt feel like you were having a generic cream soup). For dinner, the hanger steak with horseradish cream was very solid. My steak was cooked to order, and the flavor of it played well off the cream. Dessert was excellent as well. Overall I was happy with the meal and service, which went beyond some of the reviews here.

I gladly visited the Olympia Tea Room for the first time. Growing up spending my summers in East Matunuck, Im surprised that I have been missing out on a nice sunny people watching spot not too far away. I tried the zucchini ribbons, they were thin and light even though they were fried. They were served over a fresh tomato and herb salad with balsamic and loads of shaved reggiano. I would have been good with just that but I also ordered the ceasar salad with two grilled huge shrimp. They were grilled perfectly, not too over done. I wish I took a picture because they cut the romane vertically and put the whole half of the head of lettuce on the plate with the dressing on the white stems. Looked cool but I will say it was more work chopping it all up but the housemade warm crutons won me back over. I loved sitting outside top half shaded and bottom half in the sun tanning. Sipping my drink and watching the crowds. Didnt wait for a table and our server was very nice. Overall had a great meal and experience.

We went to this restaurant for a dinner. We had Bahama salad with additional chicken and fish and chips. The salad was very good, but cost us $22. Fish and chips were below average. Our Big Y makes much taistier and juicier fish with the same unpleasant taste french fries, but at least they don't charge $20 for it.

While the service was more than accommodating and all of mine and my parties needs were met, found it to be over priced for what it was. Would not recommend the egg plant bruschetta. Only restaurant in the area where you could sit and be served, wished we had tried somewhere else

I visit a nearby Inn every summer and always eat at least one meal at the Olympia Tea Room. The best thing about this restaurant is the availability of outdoor seating and their wonderful appetizers. The breeze is delightful and the view of the docks the yachts and the bay is amazing. Inside is a little dark and not as inviting. The food---in my experience is overpriced for what you get! The appetizers have been consistently good, unusual and imaginative over the years so I often just ordering a few appetizers and skipping the entrees. I had shaved zucchini with parmigiana and tomato and the portion was huge. My friend had the seared tuna appetizer w seaweed salad and that was fantastic too. For the entree I had a lobster on a crescent roll. Hard to believe you could mess up that but is was BLA and for $22.00 I don't expect BLA! They forgot my fries too. My friend had shaved fried eggplant w balsamic vinegar on a roll and she was not very happy it either. I wanted more vegetables so I decided to order a side of coleslaw and it was tasteless! I had expected more for $4.00 and this modern menu. The service was fine except for forgetting my fries the staff was very accommodating and the food was served quickly. All in all it is always a nice couple of hours If you don't mind spending $78.00. for lunch plus tip. (my Friend had one beer I drank water).

I've been here a number of times over the past years and would have agreed with the 3 star rating but today's visit showed me a different hand in the kitchen and significantly better output so I'm going to 4 stars. Had both a simple and complex dish - fish and chips and a flounder with curried quinoa and asparagus, plus string beans with pancetta, roasted tomatos and prosciutto. All excellent and super fresh, cooked lightly leaving freshness and crunch. I would not have seasoned the quinoa but would have the fish with the same curry sauce. But flavors nice and clean. French fries were terrible however. Cheap and not worth the calories. Some nice things on dessert list but my partner and me skipped them. Great wine list by the glass but a bit pricey, not terrible tho. Service friendly and knowledgable, very professional. I always liked it here - now a bit more so.

Great location and very nice service, so why only 2 stars. The ambiance and location just scream "Great Brunch and Bloodies served here!". Worst Bloody Mary I have had since I can remember that may include at the airport club. Bland watery tomato base. Did not see any horseradish, worcestershire (im sure there was some in there but didnt see it in the color or taste it or smell it). The only thing I did see other than watery tomato coloring was some pepper and a nice piece of celery but would suggest they have the leafy stalks for presentation and not just the boring trunk. No salt or pepper or celery salt or old bay or anything adorning the rim of the glass. Just a huge dissapointment. Did I mention our server was very accomodating and friendly. I guess the food was ok but I really don't remember much after being dissapointed by the bloodies. My friend also had the same reaction if not worse.

I enjoy this place every time I come to watch hill beach. After a day of being out in the sun and working up an appetite, i like to come here and order their flatbread and a nice salad or light meal. They shine on their sangria...it is so refreshing and some of the best I have had ever. The service is only okay and that is why they only get three stars. They have outside seating which is a plus because the inside gets CRAZY loud when it is full of diners.

We returned for "tea" and dinner last night. There were four in our group. Everyone enjoyed the interior atmosphere and the sunset was heavenly. The staff here is well coached. Our server was very pleasant and knew the menu inside and out. The wine list is extensive and first rate. For starters we had carpaccio and two calamari (Jacks Style), one of the calamari's was shared by our guests. My wife indicated the carpaccio (tuna cut paper thin with capers, shallots and arugula) as excellent. Our guests loved the Jacks style squid they split. I have had this dish before and on this occasion, refused to share mine at great risk. It's that good. Just the right amount of spice in the marinara to make the sautéed squid very interesting indeed. For entrees we had Swordfish and Shrimp Scampi on jasmine rice which was reported as very good. The Sausage Bruno came with roasted potatoes, broccolini and shaved parmesan. The sausages are local and were grilled to perfection. It got a double thumbs up. My wife had the Seared Scallops (3) with cool (room temperature) noodles and white beans. The scallops were done perfectly and the sides a great compliment to offset the richness of the scallops. I had the Fish & Chips which came with shoe string fries and cole slaw. The fish batter was light and crispy. The portion is a whole filet, (come hungry). The "slaw" is home-made and very nice. The chips were light and not oily. I do prefer my chips to be classic UK style, which in the US we know as steak fries. That said, the Fish & Chips at the Olympia Tea Room are the best in the Westerly - Narraganset area. I also want to congratulate the OTR team for taking our reservation. One member in our party requires a chair. The only downside is $22 (Mkt Prc) for 3 scallops along with a couple of dollars worth of noodles and beans is unfair. Our dinner with 3 glasses of Martin Ray Chardonnay and 3 cocktails came to $220 inclusive of tip. Overall, well done Olympia Tea Room. Magoo

Man I am surprised by the rating of this place! This place is right across from the dock with a nice view. I would definitely recommend sitting outside if the weather is nice. When we first walked in we were greeted by a hostess and when we asked to sit outside, she sort of just said seat yourself. I thought this was a little awkward but I didn't mind too much. Shortly after we were given menus and drink options. My brother has been here before and he recommended the oysters and the fish and chips. I was not disappointed in either! I am from California so I am not used to these small oysters but they were delicious and sweet. I am not a big of oysters but I really like the oysters here. The fish and chips were excellent! Add a bit of vinegar and lemon for taste but i loved it. Honestly, best fish and chips I've ever had. It was so light, buttery and tasty. The portions were huge for the fish and chips. I shared with my brother. My sister got the tuna ceviche tacos. It wasn't for my liking and my sister said it was missing something. In our short little trip on the east coast, we shall be back definitely for the fish and chips! 3.5 stars for service - Our waiter was attentive and nice 4 stars - view -fish & chips - oysters

Food is good. Many great choices. Lobster roll w butter is on a croissant. The croissant took all flavor from lobster. Lobster was plentiful tho. Food was average worth trying. A little pricy for the ambiance. Good music

I LOVE THIS RESTAURANT! We have been coming here for years and have never been disappointed. DO NOT BELIEVE THE NEGATIVE REVIEWS RE:CHILDREN. It's not that they are "unwelcome". If you see the layout of the dinning room you will notice that there is no room for high chairs and other baby gear. Waitstaff and customers would have no room to pass by tables. We have been taking our children here since they were old enough to sit in a normal chair and behave. They have ALWAYS been treated well. The location is perfect. Beautiful Watch Hill, surrounded by summer boutiques, shops and art galleries. The menu is excellent. Varied and delicious. Their Tuna Tartare on crisp chip as a special was incredible. The Bolagnese Sauce is fantastic. The service is attentive and pleasant. Perfect New England atmosphere. Great selection of Martini's and cocktails. It is our "go to" place in the summer. It is a very popular restaurant so unless you go early be prepared to wait a bit. It's well worth it.

I have taken my young family here three times in the past few years, we like to visit the beach at Watch Hill as it is a place my wife visited as a young child. The Olympia Tea Room has been a constant part of that story, and of several generations before that (as the beer mats labelled clearly with the year the place was established will testify). My major problem with this place is that it seems to be trading on that history/heritage. That and the almost complete lack of local competition. Our visits have always been tainted with the same lack of care on behalf of pretty much every server. Attitudes have been surly and uncaring, basics - such as water - are often forgotten, the vibe is very much our way or no way. Their refusal to provide highchairs for our kids - remember this is a beach town, families come here - seems grounded in some ancient past. I sense the owner refuses to keep up with the times (we have been to a lot of very fancy restaurants in NYC etc. who have all been more than happy to provide highchairs) due to some ill-advised determination to stick with tradition. The other sense we get is that tourists are bit of an inconvenience. Like they figure out that you are 'not from around here', and then assume the worst. We will continue to return to Waverley but there'll be no more Olympia Tea Room visits. If the food was fantastic it would be a much harder decision, but its not, it's very average.

Place looked very cool and had a great setting of course being where it is.....Now the negatives. Not kid friendly and they don't offer that info up front. If they did I would have left being that I don't want my kids to be where they aren't wanted. Don't get me wrong, I don't begrudge those places that don't want kids there but just let us know ahead of time and we would be on our way. The owner seemed like a complete putz!!! In the old days he would be sucking asphalt but nowadays you go to jail for that kind of thing. Just joking calm down Mr. Putz. The food was very good. I had Tuna Ceveche Tacos (very good), wife just had clam chowder, she loved it. Kids had pizza which was also good. My one complaint about the food is that my low class brain did not know that "Tuna Ceviche" was raw tuna, it would have been nice to have been told that up front. I still loved it though and would recommend it to raw fish lovers. To sum it up. Portions were small to moderate. Prices were a little on the high side. Our waitress was outstanding. She was friendly and helpful. The owner can kiss my rear but since he was seemingly the highfalutin type I am sure that will never happen unless I become wealthy myself lol. I would recommend the place but not with kids, and with kids, go off hours.

Hard to say. The Greek salad was delicious; with the giant feta chunks and whole lettuce heads---very refreshing. As for the drinks, the mojito was deliciously soothing topped with a sugar cane to add flavor. Regardless, it's a bit overpriced as with everything around Watch Hill, however the drinks are worth the trip. The atmosphere is wasp central... Seriously. I liked the funky artwork on the walls but the waitstaff was a bit snooty.

Best food and fabulous view in the summer. love eating outside and everything we have had there is amazing. The best caesar salad with amazing homemade croutons! Pizzas are yummy and bloody marys are great

Great little local restaurant in Watch Hill community. Great bartenders, good drink menu. The food was fresh, however, preparations were not seasoned properly. Disappointing entrees

We always make a trip to Tea Room while on our annual beach vacation. While the food was better last night than it has been in the past, the service and attitude of the staff was completely intolerable. The host- if that term could actually be applied to the man- was rude and inhospitable to both us and his staff! They are fortunate not to have any competition in the area. We will not hurry back.....
