This restaurant was exactly what I was looking for after a weekend of tennis away from home. My daughter and I came here for dinner on our way out of town. I have to admit that the perfect Summer weather sitting out on an upstairs deck with live music below certainly helped the evening along. The restaurant is pricey, we paid $22.00 for a small (they said 2 lbs) bucket of steamers. I ordered the stuffed sole but the waitress heard baked scrod so that is what I ate. The manager apologized for the error but did not take anything off the bill or offer a drink, etc for the error. The baked scrod was good but "swimming" in a sea of butter. Of course - everything taste good swimming in a sea of butter. The restaurant was very busy. We called ahead and put our name on the wait list, that helped. The wait list was over an hour for those who did not call in advance. All in all, if the weather is right - I'd definitely go back.

We had a group of 12. I called the restaurant twice beforehand to notify them of our group size. They explained they don't take reservations. Ok i said just know we'll be there with 12 at 1pm. Show up and they scramble. After dealing with their misguided policy, we ended up having a good meal and a good time. Our waitress was good although management should have assigned another waitress to help with our large table. Service was slow.in the beginning as a result; however, i cannot fault the waitress as she was doing what she could. Management needs to step up their game. We might be back next time we're in the area.

Decent food! Beautiful waterside property. Outside or indoor seating. Any drink you could ask for and live music! Not a bad spotwith or without the kids! The waiter did a great job. The food didn't take long and although there was a wait for a table time passed quickly as there was plenty of space to kill the time

We stopped in for dinner on a week night. The weather was very nice and we asked to dine outside. There is a lot of seating outside! The hostess asked if upstairs was OK and not having been upstairs we said that was fine thinking the view would be good. In hindsight, sit downstairs if you can. The view is better, unless you are seated at the upstairs bar. Our waitress was young and in no hurry at all. Which normally would be fine, who wants a 'rushed' waitress right? This one however, well, she was on her own timeline. She brought over the menus and took our drink order but when she returned with the beverages, she said something about 'just having drinks' and started to move away. We stopped her to say we were ready to order. She said 'OK', and walked away! Puzzling. Maybe to get her waitress pad? Maybe it's a magic trick: 'I'd like to order now', 'POOF' waitress disappears. Several minutes later she returned to take our order and then wandered around the deck for a bit. She wasn't helping customers, just wandering. I don't think I have ever seen a waitress like this. It was clear by watching her, and table occupants, that several guests were trying to figure out what was going on with this girl. The couple next to us wanted refills on drinks and had a hard time getting her attention. They never did get their refills and left in frustration. She just wasn't attentive. We were deep in conversation, so we didn't notice if the food took a while to arrive. The turkey burger (as turkey often is) itself is bland and the aioli sauce really spices it up nicely. The steak tips were solidly good and the portion large. We too did not get asked if we would like drink 'refills' but we were able to get her attention. When we requested the check it came almost immediately. Makes me wonder; is Chelo's waterfront trying to turn customers over quickly, or is this girl just in need of server lessons. Either way, we don't often come to this location because of previous unsatisfying experiences and this one just reminded us of why.

First time here, went for my birthday dinner. Never been here before so we drove by it the first time. The GPS leads you to the sign on Post Road but you need turn down Masthead Drive and take a left. We were also unsure of the parking situation as it seemed a little tight, but managed to get a spot. We sat outside and the atmosphere was lively. There was a live cover band that did an amazing job. The drinks were delicious. I had potato skins (without bacon) as my meal; I'm a vegetarian and the options were very limited. Service was good. We were there on a Thursday night in July and didn't have to wait for a table outside. Our waiter was attentive and we got our drinks and food in a timely manner. We didn't really walk around but they have a fire pit, a second story balcony. Lots of outside seating.

Good food, generally, and good service, but don't order the fried clam platter. The bellies are miniscule. Otherwise, Chelo's is a good time, with tasty food and good drinks.

A few weeks ago, my friend and I decided to take a gamble and go to Chelo's for dinner on a Saturday night. We got there around 5:00 on a Saturday night, and I expected to wait. The hostess said 45 minutes but we only ended up waiting for what felt like 15 minutes, so that was great. We were brought to a table in the shade and both ordered sangria. It was really, really good. I know this is my own mistake, but I felt like crap after eating all of the fried seafood. We got calamari for an appetizer, which was some of the best I've ever had. I ordered the fish and chips for an entree and it was just okay. I ended up just eating the fries. The fish was good, but not amazing. I'll make a mental note to get something not-fried if I ever go again. Overall, it was good, but I'm not dying to go back. It's a beautiful location, but there are better waterfront restaurants in RI that I would rather go to.

Coming to the waterfront is always a great experience. But we have found a new favorite bartender! Jessie is great! We came through-out the summer several times specifically to see her. Great food! Great service! And great bartender!

  • Scott V.

I will give it 4 stars for what it is not for the food. Great place in the summer for outdoor drinks and bands. Right on the water great setting. The is good if you order the right things, chowder clam cakes and maybe a burger

Dan, Drew, and I really enjoyed ourselves at Chelo's Waterfront. The inside is beautiful. It's has a beach theme but it settle. It's not like super in your face which is nice. We were sat at a table inside with Jessica as our server (it was too cold for outside). She gave us a little bit of time with the menu. I ordered a pepsi, Dan a beer, and Drew, the Root Beer Float cocktail. When she came back with our drinks we ordered our meals. I got the fried clam platter and Dan ordered the lobster roll with a loaded baked potato. About 10 minutes later, our food was out. The fried clams were amazing. They were whole belly clams, which are the big ones! I was amazed at the quality and freshness of them. Dan's lobster roll was delicious and packed with lobster salad. The baked potato was so good, he ate the skin and all. At this point, Drew had finished his drink, so by recommendation of Jessica, he ordered the Pirate's Cove (a rum cocktail.) He loved it! We can't wait to come back on a warmer day and sit outside.

Had a chelos sangria to start. Mozarella sticks for app. Chicken delight was scrumptious yumm yummy.. lol 1st time here love it. 5 stars.

  • Reid F.

The food is very good, the service is outstanding, you get to sit outside near the ocean, and they sometimes have live music. What more can you ask for? I had the clam fritters with chowder, followed by baked scallops, and it was all quite good.

  • Lou Ann B.

It took us over a half hour to get to the valet to park the car on a Saturday night. We had 'call ahead' seating and we couldn't get past the people waiting to get in, WHY? I ASK? However, we were seated immediately once we pushed through the crowd. Very disappointed in the quality of the food at this establishment. We ordered baked fish and it was totally dried out and stuck to the casserole dish it was plated in. The kitchen got our sides order wrong, mashed potatoes, instead of the baked with butter and sour cream. The meal with an order of calamari and a glass of wine and a beer was over $80! Not worth it, won't be going back.

Great place to visit in the summer time. Indoor and outdoor seating. Great view of Greenwich vove up inside Narragansett bay. Good food. Full bar. Live music outside when the weather is nice. Prices are a little up there. $9.99 for a sangria. $9.99 for 3 clam cakes and a bowl of chowder.

  • Lindsey-Rae L.

I love Chelo's. They have great food and a wonderful outdoor atmosphere. It gets very loud sometimes when they pack a lot of people out on the deck. I would prefer to always get a table on the upstairs deck. A lot less hustle and bustle. But still a great summer spot!

    (4)
  • Anne C.

You come here for the view, not for the food. Come, have a drink, sit outside, take in the views. The food is standard American fare, probably mostly coming from a freezer.

We tried to go tonite to meet up with our group and the valet was all full up. I've only been like 5 times and it gets more ridiculous each time.

I love chelos on the water and I'll tell you why. You can dress up. You can dress casual. They have a solid menu. The drinks are amazing. From a sangria to the almond joy and everything in between, there's not something you couldn't like. Even the dessert! Not to mention you are down the street from main. You can enjoy a fire outside, the beautiful view and even live music. Last time I went, my waiter/bartender named Tom was soooo accommodating and great. What an awesome employee. I've had him other times and each time he really provides a great dining experience. It's the perfect spot on a nice summer night and I always look forward to nights spent here.

Had lunch there on a warm summer Thursday afternoon. Sat outside but we didn't have much of a view. Service was good. Food was totally overpriced and just average. My husband and son shared a bucket of steamers which were good but slightly pricey at $22. My husband and I ordered salads and they were totally disappointing. Bagged iceberg lettuce with uninspired additions and gross bottled dressing. Not fresh at all. I added grilled shrimp to mine which resulted in a $17 dollar salad. Not cool. My son had fish and chips which he enjoyed.

on a warm summer day in New England there's not much better than some tasty seafood and cold alcoholic beverages on the water to top off your night. this was a first time visiting this particular Chelo's location (they are a chain in the area) and we will be back for sure. beware seating outside if the suns out and it's over 65 degress will cost you 45+ mins waiting on any given weekend. this was the case when we went so we opted to sit inside. we were greeted promptly by our server Rachel who was handling herself pretty well in the sunday funday madness. we ordered a round of drinks, the white sangria is a palette pleaser you'll need to try! we ordered some clamcakes to start which were fluffy and delicious, 12 for the four of us was more than enough, go with the 1/2 dz. if you want to be able to eat your entrée. I had the baked stuffed sole for my meal which was heaven and perfectly portioned. everything came out really fast for as busy as the place was. I will say there were two different servers that tried to bring us food that wasn't ours so, might want to review table numbers with the servers. I feel bad for whoevers calamari it was because the kid stood around looking clueless for about 5 minutes. overall, if you want classic New England seafood at a very reasonable price with a killer view this is your place.

I have always loved Chelo's, not just this location, pretty much all of them. Chelo's Waterfront is like this special Chelo's for summer. I can honestly say that I am obsessed with their lobster roll and their honey mustard. Those two items alone will always have my making this my go to location for summer nights. The waterfront location gets really busy on the weekends, so try to go on a weeknight or even for lunch. The outdoor seating is really amazing with calming water views and always a nice breeze.

One of the staples of a true Rhode Island summer includes a plate of clam cakes, a bowl of chowder, and jamming out to live music with a tall beer at this iconic waterfront tuck-away. The food here is what you would be able to expect at any of the local Chelo's locations, but with a bit more flair in the seafood department. Great lobster, calamari, chowder(ah), and some delicious wraps and burgers. Food aside, it's the location and atmosphere that sets this location apart from the rest in the chain. Tucked away in the Greenwich Marina, Chelo-goers can dine, drink, and rock alongside a gorgeous bayfront & yacht yard view. Maybe you even own a yacht? Food can be delivered right down the dock. And I'm free most Saturdays (just saying). Weekends here are usually graced by a live band of one variation or another, providing a legitimately fun atmosphere for families and boozehounds alike. When you're not rocking out to the outside center stage and dancefloor, kick up your feet and make some new friends at one of the two fire pits on each side of the deck. Drink prices are my only gripe, usually running on the upper end of the area (come out with 20-30 bucks if you're not the driver and want something other than Bud Light all night). That being said, the beer selection and mixed drink creations are always on-point. Just be sure to call ahead for dinner seating during the summer and be prepared for a bit of a crowd around the bar - it's no secret this place draws a sizeable crowd from June-September.

Really good. Wish I had known about it sooner. Ate there last week. Had the calamari and the lobster macaroni and cheese. They did not skimp on the lobster. Really good.

Well, my family took me out for my birthday dinner... Got here at 6:10pm it is 8:10pm and dinner isn't here yet. The prices are outrageous for most items. I do have to say that the calamari was impressive and I love the drinks that the bartender lady made me. It's easy to get drunk when you don't have food. I really hope my lobster bisque tastes good when it gets here....

Stumbled upon this place by accident. Four bars and inside and outside dining on the water. Large stage outside for music. Had seafood chowder and a salmon steak. Excellent. Great staff.

I don't usually write reviews but when I do I'm usually disappointed. Love this place when I can get in.. , after battling for a parking spot and getting seated within 45min it's a great way to end the work week and relax by the water during the summer. However had the fish Reuben a signature dish, and I'm still looking for the fish. Greasy, soggy and my date had the baked scrod, just as lousy. Come on guys! I know you have a great location but can you please improve your menu. Great service and location

  • Thomas C.

I know this isn't a "normal" Chelos, but that is no excuse for poor service and mediocre food. It takes forever for the food to come out. Plus the prices are higher than "regular" Chelos, which I somewhat understand because of the waterfront and entertainment. But I still expect good food and service which I never seem to get at this location. I ordered my burger and asked for steak fries. No, we have regular fries. Really? What was served to me were horrible batter laden greasy cold fries, unlike the nice hot steak fries you get at the other locations. The burger I had was lousy. The meat had a gray look to it, almost to the point where I didn't want to eat it. But I was starving after waiting so long for it to arrive! Even if I was a one time tourist I would feel the food and service were not great and not want to return. They have the waterfront to lure you in. Yes, it is a beautiful spot to eat and hang out. But every time I go to this location I am very disappointed.

  • Andrew S.

My biggest problem with this place is the inside. It needs a major renovation. If you are going to Chelos Waterfront be sure to sit outside, the top deck is my favorite spot. Food is average family friendly food like all other Chelos location. The thing that sets this one apart is the view and outside seating area. Great place to spend a summer afternoon.

    (4)
  • Amanda B.

Love the outside area, thurs-sat they have live bands which add so much to the already amazing atmosphere. The fish tacos are amazing and so is the fish Reuben, the chowder and the baked salmon. I've never had anything I didn't like!! The wait can be long though and the drink prices are high, just a heads up.

    (4)
  • Kristine T.

This place is amazing in the summer. Right on the water, outdoor seating, music, and seafood. Fair warning to anyone who doesn't like seafood: there isn't much otherwise. I had the clam cakes and chowder and they were excellent. I will definitely be back.

    (4)
  • Anthony C.

Outdoor bar is the ideal spot here. Ambiance and water view make it a prime summer location for decent food and drinks.

    (4)
  • Linda A.

It would get 5 stars if the prices for their drinks were not so expensive. $10 for glass of sangria. However, the chelos sangria is Awesome and strong. It is a very busy place so expect a long wait if you want to sit outside. Their food is very good. Obviously there menu is heavily seafood based. My husband and I had the gansett Rubin and the figs and chips. Both were excellent!!! Don't forget to have dessert. The strawberry shortcake is to die for and huge!!!

    (4)
  • Ron G.

    1. clam cakes were not cooked all the way through 2. server brought the wrong food 3. watered down soft drinks so this is a fifty fifty split. I didn't like my food, but there was one in or party that did so I will give min rating

  • Meghan M.

Food: 1 (It is a Chelo's after all) Service : 2 Overall, a decent place for live music and a few drinks (Go for the non-specialty/traditional drinks. Specialty drinks at an establishment like this tend to be too sugary or syrupy tasting).

Pleasantly surprised by our recent, unplanned outing here today. Dined outside on the deck with the three kiddos and the huz. The seating was ideal for the breezy, cloudy summer day...and the marina views completed the waterside landscape. The elevated volume of the piped-in music through overhead speakers made conversation difficult across the table...but we were a hungry bunch and chit chat was low on the list. Eating inside was an option but it was a great day for al fresco dining. Once we were seated, the drink and app order was taken in a jiffy. The crab cakes were tasty - crispy outside, moist and crab-a-licious on the inside. The pair in the order made it easy to share. The calamari platter disappeared...the lightly battered, tender rings were delightful. Other highlight of the meal was the bacon cheeseburger with sauteed 'shrooms. Thick, juicy, quality patty piled high with all the fixin's on a toasted bun... messy burger heaven. Service was attentive and polite. Food was served hot and prepared as requested. We enjoyed the first half hour of the decent live cover band playing...again pretty loud on the deck. After the check, we did wander down on the lawn where we were able to get out of the direct line of the speakers. Conversation was audible here so we relaxed on a pinic bench and the kids romped in the grass for a bit. I could see spending an afternoon here with a few friends enjoying the tunes and some bevvies. It is super busy here...they have added valet service which is a must with the limited parking. It was a great spot for a casual outing and a reasonably priced meal. Wouldn't mind another visit for a repeat of today's experience.

I recently discovered Chelo's after moving from nj can't believe it took me a whole year! The first time I went to Chelo's was at their Cranston location by garden city. I thought it was great it's now one of my favorite places. I went to the waterfront location today for lunch I got the lobster Mac n cheese it was creamy and full of lobster def delicious! This menu compared to other locations is smaller, pricier and obviously has a ton of seafood options so it depends on what your in the mood for. The outdoor seating is gorgeous looking out to the water and seeing all the beautiful boats. I'd have to say I enjoy the variety of other locations but can't wait to come here on a summer night, listen to some music and have some beers with friends!

The service blows. What happened to the days of everyone getting water at the table. We ordered an appetizer and the waitress placed it on the table and didn't even say enjoy. Then we sat there waiting for the small plates... Nothing so I had to get up and ask for them. Then we had to ask for a kids menu, when I obviously had a kid with me .Then they give me my meal that came with a side and said " oh what was it again" realllllly. No joke people that is what they said. Come to find out they were short staffed, sorry not the waitress fault that's were management fell short. Btw Empty ketchup bottle. Rest my case.

Whenever I dine here, it's usually outside. Why not? It has some pretty decent family friendly live music and it's by a waterfront! It gives off a casual laid-back vibe that after a day of boating just feels right. It's definitely one of the nicer Chelo's branches for the waterfront alone. Their Pina Colada are sweet and delicious. If I wasn't hungry, I would have easily spent the rest of the night drinking Pina Coladas alone. However I was hungry; the food is unimpressive and on the greasy side. The service is unremarkable. Inattentive at times, even when the night ceases to be busy and slows down. It's a pretty good as casual seafood place. I go there for the ocean view and drinks. But that's pretty much it.

Not bad! Enjoy coming here in the summer for a night out near the water. Food is pleasant and you have a good time.

Wife & I went here 4th of July weekend, and had a great time. We didn't eat, so can't comment on the food, but we sat at the patio bar and the service was great. Great atmosphere, and they had a band playing outside. We'll be back.

Stopped for happy hour drink after four o'clock and I was charged full price drink. Well make sure waitress won't overcharge you. Otherwise great location and live band.

What can I say, it's an RI staple! Parking sucks and the wait is usually kinda long. Service sucks, never enough people on. They ran out of silverware! Get with the program!

    (3)
  • Joe K.

This was recommended to our party of 30 (girls soccer team with parents)with outside seating with a reservation at 5pm with waterfront views of the marina. Live music awaits as we are seated. Lots of tropical drinks to choose from and clam bake and chowder was a appetizer to the 2 lb cooked to perfection lobster tail. I would have liked the kitchen to crack the lobster but I can't complain. The calamari salad was a large portion I tasted. Not sure why the decor was a problem to others. Parking at 5 pm was no problem but about 7pm a crowd filled the place. Try this place it won't disappoint.

  • Jimmy W.

While the calamari balsamica was awesome, the seafood sampler was not. The shrimp were frozen, chewy anything but fresh. The scallops were greasy and had an odd grayish tint. When asked if the seafood was frozen, the waitstaff looked at each other and one turned and said no, it's all fresh. I guess I'm an idiot. Atmosphere was cool although I arrived late in the evening, not many people there but was glad to get there before the kitchen closed. First real food other than fast food since I arrived in RI. This was not what I was expecting. I would like to chalk it up to a bad night or a really late visit but that doesn't excuse the frozen food when you have a restaurant on the water.

Came here with my friends for my birthday. The view was beautiful and the food was good. However, my friends told the waitress that it was my birthday. They neglected to tell us that we needed to order and pay for the dessert and instead they just brought out a bowl of whipped cream..... They also didn't sing to me and 5 minutes later brought out a tiny dessert to the table next to us and a hole crew of waitresses sang .

I have never been a fan of seafood but the location, the giant fish sandwich and the great staff of Chelos always makes me come back! Def good for families. Love the live music and the wind. Perfect summer evening spot.

For: - a nice deck with a beautiful view of Greenwich Harbor - an outdoor space that usually hosts a good band and access to fire pits - fish and chips that aren't overly battery and lack flavor - a cold beverage (adult or otherwise) from friendly staff - a basic seafood-based menu -- nothing fancy Chelo's on the Waterfont is for you. Cons: - parking is TIGHT for such a big venue - prices are slightly high on some menu items - it's going to be crowded on a nice weekend night

    (3)
  • Rebecca R.

Pretty much the only Chelo's I'll ever go to. Tons of seating at this location and it's right on the water as the name suggests. I definitely prefer sitting outside and taking in the sites. They have large fire pits on either side and you can enjoy watching people gather around while listening to some music. They usually have bands on weekend nights (not sure about week nights). They have a dance floor and if you are feeling a little frisky after dinner, feel free to go bust some moves. The drinks here are pretty delicious, i've tried a few of the mixed cocktails and have not been disappointed. A bit pricey, but you are on the water - they are comparable to most bars in the area. I've had a salad here before that was pretty delicious and most recently the lobster roll with a cup of lobster bisque. The lobster bisque was decent overall, not as many chunks of lobster as I'd hoped, but it was good. The lobster roll was delicious, serve on a toasted hot dog bun with that melted butter flavor stacked with sweet chunks of lobster. good to the last bite. I have to say honestly the food has impressed me as the few other Chelo's I've been to seemed to give the chain a bad name. Even if you aren't in the mood for a bite, this is a great place to spend a summer evening with friends - sit by the fire, enjoy some music and forget all of your worries.

All around a great summer lunch. We had burgers, steamers, clamcakes and even the 'Gansett Reuben. A large draft beer selection to boot makes this a top notch waterfront destination. We need to hit up Chelos on an evening for the outdoor entertainment and fire pit experience.

  • John R.

Love sitting at the bar on the back deck. Great atmosphere. Service is generally good (thou I've had bad), and prices are a bit high, but so is the real estate.

    (3)
  • Michael Z.

The food was great! The drinks were great! Meghan was our server, she was cute, and great! However, the live music was a bit too loud, and at some points the dudes voice was so sharp I thought my spine was going to fall out. WTF, turn it down! The song selection was good. The parking is awful:(

    (4)
  • J R.

I'm not a big fan of any chain restaurant's, but they do have great summertime entertainment

    (3)
  • Edward S.

This restaurant gets a star for just the view alone. Food is below average and service is very spotty. I believe this Chelo's is only open for the summer months so it is safe to say that most of their staff has limited experience. If you are looking for a quick drink by the water before you go somewhere else better, this is an ok place to go. Keep in mind it gets very crowded on the weekends.

The only positive thing about Chelos Waterfront menu is that they offer their clam chowder every day as opposed to twice a week like the other locations. Otherwise, the menu is pretty standard. I'm usually content with whatever I've had here and at other Chelos locations (nothing to write home about, but it satisfies when necessary), but last time I was here and tried the lobster mac and cheese, I was beyond disappointed. It advertised a five-cheese blend, but when it arrived, I didn't taste any cheese, let alone five different kinds. It appeared to me to be a small (read NOT FILLING) portion of flavorless pasta, topped with some lobster meat. That's it. For $16.99. I hungrily filled up on bread and French fries from neighboring plates so I wouldn't be hungry after I finished my meal. The view is great, I'm not gonna lie. If you want to have dinner with an ocean view without paying ocean view prices, Chelos is the place. Just don't expect to have food that matches the view. In a state with so much coastline, and so much seafood, you can find dozens of other places with good views and much better food. It may cost you more, but I think it's a small price to pay when it comes to actually enjoying your dinner.

  • Greg P.

Definitely the best location of all the Chelo's..... right on the water. As always when we go to this location we sit outside. Meghan our waitress was good and the food was excellent. Lobster and Caesar salad for me...Spinach and Chicken Salad for my wife and Steak sandwich for my son. Only issue I have was the price of the steamers we had as an app....($22).... A bit pricy. However, never a disappointment!!!

Out of all the Chelos I've ever visited, this on eis my favorite. I've never actually eaten inside but the outside area during the summer is fabulous. You get the price of Chelos, although their menu is slightly different then the others in the area... but you're surrounded by boats/yahts.. and it has such a who cares type of vibe. There's live music and two bars and PLENTY of staff. The food is pretty good. The best way i can explain it is the vibe of Newport.. closer to home and with Chelo's prices. Ya can't really beat that.

It was a beautiful saturday afternoon. The wife and I wanted to go out and grab something to eat. What a better way to enjoy the weather and grab a great meal. So we decided to go back to Chelos Waterfront. As usual the crab cakes are the best in the State of Rhode Island. I ordered the fishermans platter which was Huge. The wife ordered a bacon cheeseburger. The Alcoholic beverages were delicious as well. The view was beautiful. Well thank you for the great times Chelos Waterfront, we'll see you in 2014!

Although I'm allergic to seafood, I ordered the bacon burger with thousand island dressing. I do wish a littttttle bit more dressing was added to my sandwich but that didn't take away from the burger. Our waitress, Nicole, did an excellent job. She mentioned it was her first night serving and I would have never guessed being in a group of six. She was extremely friendly and efficient. Drinks and food came out in a timely manner which was shocking for me considering the place was PACKED! We were originally told an hour and thirty minute wait...more like a thirty minute wait! I was so impressed given how busy the place was that we were seated and served in such a short amount of time! I'm only visiting for six weeks but count me in for going again! Oh and the live music and view of the water just tipped the scale for this place!!

Great location, It reminds me of back home and going down into Port Canaveral to the restaurants to eat. The service was a little slower then I like. The food was good, but a little pricey

Drinks are very overpriced, service is friendly but dreadfully slow. Food is good. Music is nothing special. Being on the dock/water is the biggest draw. Also, the parking during busy hours is absolutely atrocious.

What an awesome summer time restaurant. I felt like I was at a family party. Picnic tables everywhere, kids running around, parents socializing with a great band playing in the background (Project DCQ). Right on the waterfront.. beautiful view of the marina. Located close by the airport with planes flying low. It's like you are at a rich persons house on the water with a huge backyard. The restaurant itself was huge, with a two outdoor bars attached backside of the building, one upstairs and the other downstairs with another tiki-bar to the side of the building. Food - I didn't eat but both of my friends orders got messed up. Both asked for no tomato and both got tomatoes. Then my girlfriend kept ordering the same margaritas and the waitress comes out and informs us how she knows the order was supposed to be on the rocks but was frozen and proceeds to hand it to my friend, she obviously declined the drink and the waitress brought her a new one. If she knew in the first place the drink was made wrong, why bother bringing it out?? My top shelf margarita was amazzzzing. Oh well, I loved the band and we got up and danced on the patio with a bunch of older people. We had a fun overall.

Pros and Cons. Pro: Drinks on the water Fire Pits Live Bands Overlooking the water 3 bars so you never have to wait long to grab a drink Friendly staff Cons: Food is not very fresh Food is expensive for the quality Closes down by midnight on a Saturday As you can see if you are not looking to grab food here it is probably worth stopping by.

Good waterfront atmosphere to grab some drinks with friends. Food isn't that great to spend the money. Honestly, Jen H.'s review is right on with the Pros and Cons. The only real reason the man and I keep coming back to this place is for the waterfront location. This side of RI is so underutilized for its waterfront activity.

Okay, dig it. You don't go to Chelo's for "fine" dining. Chelo's is like Applebee's or Friday's only without the flash and without the hip but with the bluehairs. Got it? The location of this Chelo's is what gives it 3 stars. Not the food which, while acceptable, is nothing to write home about. We met up there the other evening on the back deck - part of which is covered and part of which is uncovered, right next to the marina. To sound very Rhode Island the joint is wicked awesome. There is a stage outside and every Thursday - Sunday they have pretty decent live music. A couple of gas fired firepits outside add to the ambience. Oh yeah, the food. Salmon sliders (who would have thunk it?) - they were pretty good. A solid 3.5 out of 5. Then the clam chowder and 3 stuffies for the main course. Both were, impressively enough, filled with a decent amount of actual clams. Nice! A fun place to have a couple of cocktails and maybe an appetizer or two. Not the place for a romantic dinner. Do NOT propose marriage there. That would just be wrong. On many levels.

I went here for a function and can only speak to the upper level over looking the marina. This space was much nicer than what I think I was expecting of a Chelo's restaurant, and the upstairs certainly didn't make it feel like I was in one. The food was nothing special.

This was a great place with friendly staff and good food. I had the fish tacos. It was a baked white fish accompanied by fresh toppings; rice and steamed broccoli. Reasonably priced. The weather was rainy so we sat inside but the patio looks nice and is on the waterfront. Maybe our next visit. I hear they have live music Thursday, Friday, Saturday nights and Sunday afternoons.

Beautiful day and setting; disappointing lunch. No lobster bisque, soggy Caesar salad. Clam cakes and view were the highlights.

Nice waterfront atmosphere. Service was prompt and friendly. The Thai calamari was very good. The clam cakes were ok. The lobster bisque and clam chowder were both pretty darn good. We didn't have high expectations because of the reviews we read, but we had a good experience.

My girlfriend and I just checked this place out for this first time... I am really glad we did, it is most certainly a "go to" place for this summer.. It is situated directly on the water, hit the upstairs bar (as we did) and get a perfect seat over looking the water and the stage where the band is playing.. Band which played today, excellent, great mix of today's music and everything else you can think of.. The atmosphere is just amazing.. The lower level has an inside bar, general seating.. Outside is where the stage is located with a large dance area surrounded by picnic tables, lounge chairs, about anything you can think of, all supported by waitress service.. However, to me, place to be is the upstairs bar.. Again, how do you beat overlooking the water, perfect shot of the stage, and everything else? Only downside being upstairs, they do NOT have a full beer selection and you are quite a distance from the restrooms. That did not phase us in the least.. And, I wish I had got our bartenders name.. She was super friendly, super cute, efficient, never seemed phased by the amount of people asking for drinks and food.. Anyway.. The Food? It's good.. It is nothing that is going to BLOW you away, like many others have said, but it was good.. I had Fish N Chips, flaky, cooked nicely, fries were just that crispy perfectness.. Again, it was good, nothing fantastic.. But when you're taking in the view (and guys I do not just mean the water), the stage, the music, the sun is out, the vibe is perfect, you really do not care.. My GF ordered some kind of chicken burger with pineapple.. Not my kind of thing.. However, they accommodated her requests and she liked it quite a bit.. For what we paid, I mean for everything, I found it to be quite fair what you get.. We will be back frequently this summer... If you do go, be prepared, parking is difficult (they do offer FREE valet) although it did not seem many were utilizing it.. Below based on five (5) stars... SERVICE ***** FOOD *** DECOR **** LOCATION ***** ATMOSPHERE **** RESTROOMS **** OVERALL ****

We were looking for a spot on the water, not to far south, to enjoy the beautiful weather this past weekend and Chelo's fit the bill. The location is lovely, live music and we got a table relatively easily (considering the weather). The waitstaff is ok, not expecting exceptional service when going there. The menu is typical bar food but expensive for what it is. Frankly this is not the restaurant for you are a non clam cake/chowder lover but once again the location is great. Alcoholic drinks, stick with the basics, we ordered specialty drinks initially and they were just awful. We will go back if we are looking for somewhere central to the state but only for drinks and to enjoy the view. Food is not worth it.

You want to eat sub par food by big fancy boats you'll most likely never able to afford?...check! Do you also want a 50/50 crowd split of divorcée cougars and a 20 something's meat market?...check! I love this place. I don't go for the food, but the people watching here completely makes up for the taste or price. It's family friendly and the outside atmosphere (at least summer when the band is there) is high energy and a good time for sure.

I was a little skeptical of this place based on the reviews I read so I had pretty low expectations. I was actually pleasantly surprised about this place. We sat down on one of the patios so I think the waitress forgot about us half the time but that was fine as we were enjoying the music and the beautiful view, which you really can't beat. We started with the clamcakes which were pretty good. I got the grilled chicken salad and it was actually delicious. The chicken had clearly just been cooked and placed on fresh tasting salad and all the fixins. They had a couple of really good beers on tap. My husband got the fish Reuben which he said was good. All in all it was a great ending to my day at the beach!

This place is awesome in the summer. It's right on the water, there is plenty of seafood as well as non-seafood choices on the menu. At night time they have firepits and live music. The only thing I was not super fond of was the RI calamari. It's needs more banana peppers and to be tossed in a light garlic butter or something. It's too plain jane. Their strawberry shortcake comes in a huge goblet and it, as well as the key lime pie is delicious!

You're here for the scenery (which is to say the waterfront and the watchable people) much more than the food and beverages, no doubt. Parking can be its own small nightmare here, but there is complimentary valet service. The meals are generally good but unremarkable, and priced more for the locale than for exactly what's on the plate, but if you know what you're coming for, you'll get that, enjoy yourself while there, and be pleased with the overall experience. Obviously a seasonal favorite, this is a highlight among the otherwise unremarkable Chelo's chain.

You don't go to Chelo's expecting a gourmet experience, but it is a good, reasonably-priced choice for a burger and a beer on your way home from a long day at the beach. Chelo's Masthead Drive location has a great view of the bay, so try to sit outside on the deck if you can on any warm summer night and watch the sailboats meander by. Though much of the menu is adequate at best, Chelo's advertises that their clamcakes are #1 in Rhode Island -- and I won't argue with them -- they really are exceptional.

I'm a fan of the other Chelo's, but not this one! The wait staff are rude, and this Chelo's doesn't have the good deals like $2.99 margaritas, so I ended up paying about $6 for one and it wasn't even good. I forgot to specify I wanted a salted rim because well, that's kind of part of the drink so I assumed it would be salted, or at the very least the waiter could have asked, but no. When we were first seated outside we asked if we could move over to a table closer to the water and the waiter was pretty rude saying go ahead but it's not any different than this table. Umm yes it is, it's closer to the water! So yeah, bad service, bad drinks, so-so food. No thanks....

After reading some of the more critical reviews here, I guess you have to take my reviews with a grain of salt. I suppose I'm not that hard to please. My wife and I went to Chelo's last Saturday to celebrate her birthday. Now please keep in mind that we are both on diets at the moment, so we had to watch what we ordered. Also, this was a rainy Saturday evening, so we weren't able to sit outside but we did have a booth by the window and were able to look out on the marina. We both ordered the baked haddock with veggies and had the stuffies as an appetizer. The food was delicious, and the waiter was great. This wasn't my first time to this Chelo's, and I've never been disappointed here. No it's not "fine" dining, but you know it does the trick. Give it a shot.

We really only come here for the outdoor dining during the summer months. We decided to go there last night since it was so nice out, and even though it was still relatively early (a little before 6 pm), the parking lot was already packed. They do offer complimentary valet if you would like, though. Anyway, we were told that there was a 45 minute wait for outdoor seating, and since we weren't in any rush, we were okay with that. We went to the bar to wait, and the bartenders didn't seem to be in any rush at all. There was a constant stream of drink orders, but they definitely seemed to be leisurely and relaxed in their approach. Also, we ended up at a high top near the bar, and while we were there no one came by at all to wipe it off from the previous occupants. Not good. Luckily we were seated after a short 20 minute wait (most of which was spent waiting to get a drink). Our waitress was prompt and personable. We ordered the coconut shrimp, which didn't really have any coconut taste at all, but there were 8 of them, as opposed to the 6 that the menu said would be provided. My fiancee had the baked stuffed haddock, which she said was okay, but a little heavy, and I had the fisherman's platter which was what I expected (a big plate of fried seafood). Decent eats, not spectacular, but nothing to write home about and all what I expected. There was a band playing on the outdoor stage that was really good, even though the volume made it necessary to repeat many parts of our conversation. This is another one of those places where if you know what to expect going in you won't be disappointed. I probably would have given it 3 stars if it wasn't for the disappointing bar experience as we were waiting for our table. Food was average-ish, but not horrible. I would give this place more stars if I was only going for outdoor drinking and entertainment.

Ugh, still, $4 for a Narragansett Bottle when you can go to a packie and get a six pack of Tall Boys for $4.99. I am nervous to know what other beers cost.

Great location and ambience. Wonderful bar scene. Band on Friday night was great. Have a drink but don't have dinner. How can a seafood restaurant on Narraganset Bay mess up fish. 13 people and all said the rolls were the best thing. Sad.

Well, when in Rhode Island you should order Rhode Island food, so getting the fish tacos was a bad idea. The fish was good but came with sour cream and jarred guacamole. It would be better if they had a more traditional sauce with it, or even if the line cooks mixed some mayonnaise with the sour cream so it was more like Mexican crema. And maybe some hot sauce. And it was self-assemble, like a fajita. Which is fine but I'm kind of lazy. It was, however, the best, and only, fish taco I've ever had that comes with an optional side of steak fries. The Rhode Island food was fab - the clamcakes were great, as were the fish and chips. The outside lawn area is fantastic. It's right on the harbor and they had a Tiki Bar, a fire pit, and a cover band. The was a little dance area and there were a bunch of little kids dancing. It's like being on vacation.

This place has very good food, and the atmosphere was very enjoyable! We were able to get a table outside, with a view of the bay, and it made for a great meal. The food was priced average for the area. The music was loud outside, but it was tolerable.

Finally a nice day on my day off. I choose Chelos because we were in the area and from what I remember it used to be really nice. The host were friendly and brought us to a seat outside which wasn't clean yet, which is not their responsibility however the host took it upon herself to clean the table and apologized. We waited 10 minutes for our server we were acknowledged after 5 but still waited 10, 10 minutes later we had our beers, I ordered a blue moon and it came without an orange, I didnt realize that you had to ask for an orange, since blue moon is known for coming with an orange. However we put our order in, it came out faster then expected. Just steamers and a steak and cheese sandwich. The steak cooked medium was ice cold, the steamers were also cold, I expected it to cool down sitting outside however, I did not expect it to come out cold. When you spend $20 on an appetizer that your not enjoying it, it gives you a bad experience. I'm not a hard person to wait, even working in the business, bottom line I shouldn't be searching for my server, no ask for an orange for my blue moon, if your servers should ask if they would like a orange with the blue moon, or lime with a corona. And appearance appearance appearance!!!!! You are the face of the Restaurant your working for. Even if it's the kitchens fault you have to be a team player and take responsibility. Smile, check on your tables, don't stand around clueless when your tables may need something. And the men's bathroom the urinal was broken causing the bathroom to smell pretty vicious

Used to love it here. A single lobster for $33? Noisy, rowdy crowd at the bar and the noise level of the live band and the music - well, we had to move inside.....hope this doesn't turn into a not-so-nice place - already, we didn't see families - more young couples.....

We went there with a group of 11, and the staff were very helpful in accommodating us on short notice. The view is great and the facility was attractive. The menu offered a large choice and several items were interesting. Prices were reasonable for the large portions. None of the 11 had any complaints and the consensus was that this was a place worth a return visit. The clam cakes were very tasty and well cooked but a little more greasy than expected.
