5 stars for you, J's. Not only are they totally short staffed right now, but they are churning out huge holiday platter orders and lunch rush sandwiches for a long line with total efficiency and friendliness. Most places couldn't do it with such poise. Also, my massive chicken cutlet /bbq/bacon/cheddar grinder is damn tasty as always.
(5)Bill C.
Good spot. Endless options. Ring of fire is my go to sandwich. Only issue I have is the portion. Large sub is way too much and a half sandwich is not enough. And it's not much of a discount for a half sandwich.
(4)Kelsey G.
I personally like their sandwiches and you can customize them if you want. But a lot of my friends have gotten sick from them.
(3)Charley C.
Fast Service and what I would call average bread and meat. Simple and edible, Subway might be a bit fresher. Sorry guys. I all them as I see them.
(3)Jon C.
I've always been pleased here.great subs.probably the biggest subs in RI! They weigh out a half pound of meat for every sandwich so you know you will be full! Creative names for the subs. I've never had a bad experience here although they are always busy at lunch so plan accordingly.
(4)Quint R.
Called in an order for myself and 5 others in the office. Showed up, subs were ready and waiting. I was amazed on how quick these people get you in and out during peak time. Got the subs back to the office and all 6 were correct, hot, and ooooh so good. If your looking for a lunch stop - J's is the place. You will not regret it. If you walk in and the place is packed - Don't walk away - they ARE FAST, I mean REALLY FAST. Small wait, but worth every second.
(5)John B.
Popularity sometimes brings a place down. Service is fantastic and friendly. The sandwiches were once very good using top quality like Boars Head. Now it's run of the mill average - sandwiches are ok but seems they've tried to lower standards with their popularity. Never compromise quality for an extra buck. You had a 4-5 star sandwich place now it's a 3 and kill the microwave and get a grill or don't offer sandwiches like steak that should be grilled if you can't do em right. Quality and stick to what you do right.
(3)Gianna S.
Super good and the sandwiches are huge! Definitely recommend it if you're in the area.
(4)S T.
felt rush while trying to place a order, staff was not very friendly, tomatoes on sandwich did not taste that good- fried item I got was way overcooked First and last time will not return.
(2)Michael F.
I used to love j's deli. Got a sandwich every week, until, one day got a Magellan sandwich and was eating it and chomped into a bone from the meat. I know for a fact the owner is cheap and uses cheaper ingredients. Most people wouldn't be able to tell. Some can. The meats are not the highest quality. He charges enough for a sandwich, quality should be higher. Also a month before this, I bought an Oreo cookie pie, made with hydrox cookies. What the heck is this, as I showed my wife. Didn't even taste like Oreos. I haven't come here for almost 2 years. Sorry j's, you turned me off. I had been coming here since it first opened. I won't go back now.
(2)Phil J.
J's is great. The portions are big, the food is consistently fresh and the quality is top notch. All of their sandwiches have names assigned to them with a description beneath it. I haven't got a bad sandwich there yet. If you haven't gone yet, check them out!
(5)Ryan B.
BEST. DELI. EVER. Get the chicken deluxe... now!
(5)Bruce S.
So, this place is a 4-star joint; however, the service makes it a 5-star experience. I occasionally visit the Woonsocket location during lunch at work given its proximity to our office. However, due the recent, well-publicized challenges the owner has in keeping his locations adequately staffed, the Woonsocket location is temporarily (we hope!) closed. The owner was manning the register today in Smithfield and he was the epitome of lightning quick, friendly service. This place was slammin' busy and everyone behind the counter as treating the customers like the valued part of the J's business they are. I hope Jim gets some folks to re-open the Woonsocket location again but, in the meantime, I am more than happy to call the Smithfield J's "home."

I've been frequenting this J's Deli location ever since my college days. When my stomach is rumbling and I'm in the mood for a delicious sandwich, J's is usually the first place that comes to mind. What I've always appreciated about J's is that they make tasty sandwiches that are very generous in portion size and quite reasonable in price. I can normally eat half for lunch and then have the other half for dinner...their slogan is definitely true, "It's not just a sandwich, it's a meal!" The other thing I also enjoy is they offer a wide variety of sandwiches to choose from. There are deli classics, as well as various different specialty ones that they will rotate in. While not featured as a regular on the menu, my favorite over the years has been the Brahma Bull (shaved steak, sliced buffalo chicken, hot sauce and peppercorn ranch served on a toasted torpedo roll)...in my mind, it's true sandwich perfection. A local spot with delicious, large portions and a friendly staff that works on getting your order served to you in a timely manner. If you enjoy a good sandwich but are sick of your typical run of the mill franchise chain options, then you should definitely swing by J's sometime and give them a try.
(4)Joe C.
Good Sandwiches Small local chain sandwich shop in Rhode Island. They do your typical specialty sandwiches with witty names. My favorite selection is the Chicken Deluxe. Breaded chicken, bacon, cheese, lettuce and tomato. They use high quality ingredients including Boars Head cold cuts. The potion size is pretty large, two people can easily split one of their hero style sandwiches. This location also serves prepared foods like wings and American Chop Suey. The place is close to my house and blows crappy sandwich shops like Subway and Quiznos away. Big fan of Jay's Thanks
(3)Anna T.
J'a is a favorite sub shop for most that I know. But I like to go here for their breakfast sandwiches. A huge serving of bacon, egg and cheese grilled in the morning gets me fueled up for the day. For $3.23 you can't go wrong. Make sure call it in ahead so you can be in and out!
(4)Joseph A.
I can't believe I'm writing this. But I tried to call J's to give them a chance to make it right but I was placed on hold and hung up on. I want to note that I go there at least once a week, spending at least $20.00 a visit which is only two sandwiches. I got the chicken parm lunch special. Now I know why it's a "special". It looked like a murder scene when I unwrapped it. It appeared to be at least a day old and reheated to lump of coal. I'm more disappointed I was hung up on. It's sad because I use them for my business functions as well and they aren't cheap.
(1)R F.
Gets busy around lunch time prepare for a line. But they have a great selection! The chicken salads with walnuts and cranberries in it is amazing!
(5)Bill D.
Don't go to J's if you're not hungry. Seriously, don't. The sandwiches here are huge, so if you're not ready to strap on the feedbag, or at least lack a way to bring your leftovers home, you're going to be in big trouble. If there's an obesity problem in Smithfield, then J's is the main contributor. I mean it. Big. Damn. Sandwiches. Luckily, the sandwiches are also very good. Nothing that's terribly health conscious, mind you, but if you're able to overlook that, you're in for a treat. Giant piles of deli meats, chicken cutlets, burger patties, etc., covered in additional giant piles of toppings and condiments. Lots of options for sides, too - chips, fries, slaw, desserts... you're going to leave here very full. It gets pretty busy here around lunch and dinner times, so I recommend calling ahead if you're stopping in then. It's probably not a bad idea at any other time they're open, either, because I've never been in when there haven't been at least a few people ahead of me in line and folks at many of the tables. I recommend the Pilgrim - turkey, cranberry sauce, stuffing, mayo, and muenster cheese. Not only is it tasty, but like the Thanksgiving dinner it is meant to simulate, there will inevitably be leftovers.
(4)Nick D.
Yo man like mad good shit brah but way over priced but hey you're in smithfield and I am high right now and drunk at the same time, I am also bi curious but they have a lot of different menu items and expensive as all he'll yo mmm I love moonshine and soda, but honestly I drink responsibly because I love the world we live on and I dance to the beat of my own drum.
(5)Mark C.
Went there 2 days in a row. Whether it was something pasta related, or sandwiches - it was great! What was above even great was the strawberry cheesecake!!!!! The best cheesecake that I've had outside of NY and NJ. If you're a fan of cheesecake; and anywhere near Smithfield, RI - stop there and get a delicious and huge slice of strawberry cheesecake.
(5)Magdalena R.
Best sandwich shop so far in RI. HUGE!!! FRESH!!! SO many options. They are so big I couldn't finish! Friendly, quick, affordable, and clean place. Def going back.
(5)Kristen B.
Everything you want in a deli near your workplace. Efficient, good quality. Huge menu. Friendly staff. Don't hesitate. This is an excellent deli!
(5)Doug L.
Stopped by for the first time yesterday had roast beef with onions, bbq sauce, and muenster cheese. I believe it was called the final exam. Great sandwich, everyone who was in there seemed happy with their orders. Great food and good service.
(4)Michael S.
I love J's Deli. Their food not only has crafty names, but it tastes good. I've been a customer for years, and feel like they're all my friends. if you're in the area, please stop by and try the Graduate, but get it with ranch! :)
(5)Melissa L.
Work down the street and whenever I decide to order J's for lunch the rest if my dept jumps on board! HUGE sandwiches. And they are delicious. If you order a large sandwich you will have enough for 2 meals. And they are priced right!! Highly recommend!
(4)Ran D.
You have to try the peperoni and spinach calzone! This place has all the things that I'm looking for in a sandwich place. There are a lot of choices here, but for years I have been alternating between the same three sandwitchs. Alway quick, and tasty.
(4)Kerry B.
A unique sandwich shop in Smithfield. Their sandwiches are huge! Definitely try to order a sub that will be good for leftovers. I had the "waist watcher" which was delicious grilled chicken with low fat honey mustard and mozzarella, but there was a bit to much dressing making it messy to save half for later. The menu is extensive and you will likely change your mind a few times before getting to the counter to place your order (someone else mentioned this and it's definitely true). The prices are slightly more than your average sub place, but you also get better quality and more bang for your buck. If you're tired of Subway, and your average pizza shop sub, give J's a try. It's definitely a place with a good variety of unique sandwiches.
(4)Andrea H.
Love their sandwiches. So many to choose from. Very unique combinations that please the taste buds!!
(5)Scott C.
We get J's every so often at work and its a pretty good sandwich. I do not think it lives up to the hype. It is great that they have so many different sandwiches to choose from but there is very little difference between all of the sandwiches. This one has onions while another one doesn't. It wouldn't be bad but the annoying part is you cant just pick up a menu and read all of them since they ha vent updated their menus instead you have to read as you are waiting in line and its all over if you forgot what sandwich you wanted good luck trying to describe the right one. J's says there sandwich is a meal. That is true since you are basically eating a loaf of bread with things stuffed in it. I would personally like more stuff less bread. If you go to J's you wont be disappointed, I just wasn't blown away either.
(3)Melanie B.
My boyfriend hates coming here with me because I spend 20 min staring at the menu and at the end still cant decide on a sandwich. We like to each get one then split it half and half, there are so many choices to pick from so its perfect when you cant choose! I havent had a sandwich there that I didnt like. The only downside is I wish they were open later, they are right near Bryant so I am sure they would get some late night business. Just stay open til like 10... pleeeease??
(4)Ace D.
I never really brag about deli sandwiches but when my mom's account opened this place and i tried it, i fell in love! I typically only get the INVESTOR which is tuna with cheese, bacon, lettuce and tomato. Seriously the best deli sandwich ever. Going there is a treat for me. Thank you JH for making awesome sandwiches!!
(5)Dan C.
What happened here?? J's, you were once the old standby but now you are more of the same. Quality and portions have gone right down the drain. You are using inferior ingredients and charging more money for less. Your Italian grinder should be stricken from the menu as it's truly a failed attempt. The mayo which you glob on my sandwich is the cheap stuff with hints of warm sourness. By the way, you have stopped using Boar's Head products but have still increased prices? I'm sorry J's but we're officially done.
(2)Ashley L.
J's deli is right near my parents house and whenever I'm in the area it's a definite go to for lunch. They have so many options and the subs are huge, I always have leftovers.
(5)J R.
I would give 2.5 stars, but i can't, so its going down to 2 for the frustration of the menu selections. First off... they have about 2000 sandwiches to choose from, and every single one is one ingredient different from the next. You waste so much time reading all of the sandwiches, and then confusion sets in. Perfect when I'm hungry. Secondly... besides the sheer size of their sandwiches, there isn't anything else that leaves me half impressed. The one thing i absolutely love is the beef stew, can't be beat, hands down. All in all... I guess its ok every now and then, but half way through every sandwich I am sick of the bland, monotonous flavor that every sandwich has to offer. Of course I will give them my business from time to time, but if I want a sandwich, i'll head to Venda or Ricotti's for something I will never get sick of.

I work close to J's Deli and people who I worked with would not stop talking about how awesome this place was. So I got take-out once, it was the Ring of Fire and it was ok. Then I got the Freshman which was pretty good. Then on my 3rd J's Deli experience I finally understood why people loved this place. I ordered the Patriot with Russian Dressing instead of Dijon mustard. It was Amazing, and it was a lot of food. Inside is pretty small and it can be pretty busy at lunch time. The people are friendly and the menu is HUGE, there are names of sandwiches lining the wall, all with interesting names. Random Points -Tv Inside -Coke Products -They sell buffalo chicken, stuffed quahogs, and lots of other meats by the pound. -They have " value card" that gets you 1 free sub after you buy 10 -A little more expensive than subway but so much better. Sandwiches I mentioned The Ring of Fire- Sliced Buffalo chicken with melted American cheese, bacon, lettuce, and Ranch dressing on a Torpedo roll $7.25 The Freshman Breaded chicken cutlets topped with BBQ sauce, melted Cheddar cheese and bacon on a Torpedo roll $7.25 The Patriot fresh sliced Honey turkey breast with melted Sharp American cheese, lettuce and bacon with Dijon honey mustard (remember I replaced this with Russian dressing) on a Torpedo roll $7.35

The Chicken Deluxe is the finest sandwich known to man. Now that I cleared that up, I've been eating here for probably ten years or so, and it never gets old. I could probably eat the same thing every time, but I like to occasionally switch it up. I don't know what the source of their meat is, but its always fresh, and I am certain that they mugged Jesus for the flavorings on the Chicken Deluxe. Go here and enjoy. And if you ever come across someone who tells you they don't like J's, slap them in the face for me. Side note: their vegetarian options suck.
(5)Kristi L.
As a college kid at Bryant, I lived for J's. Not only were the sandwiches great, but they were very wallet friendly (particularly for college students). The cleverly named sandwiches were always fresh and never sacrificed on taste! And, if you live in the area, you benefit from the delivery that is made available on $10 orders or more!
(4)Heather N.
We have eaten here so many time I can't believe I haven't written this review sooner. J's really is a great place to do a sandwich run. They have so much to choose from. And their sandwiches are unique. We are huge fans of the Graduate. Buffalo chicken at it's best. They get their sandwiches out quickly, their place is always clean, and their food is made with high standards.
(4)Karmel K.
J's is completely overrated. They don't even have a grill (how does one make a cheesesteak without a grill?) They use the microwave to heat it up. So nasty. They do have a lot of different choices with the gimmicky names, so I guess that draws some people in. Unfortunately there aren't many choices in Smithfield, so J's will continue to do well even though they don't make good sandwiches.
(1)Boris S.
Place is just amazing. You change your mind fifty times in line because it all looks and tastes so good. You can't go wrong with anything. And they just pile it in there. Definitely a place to go to
(5)Shannon D.
Ever since I have been introduced to J's I have never said no when someone suggested it. My personal favorite is the Chicken Deluxe (because it has bacon) but I have tried many others and they're all great! I always eat one half of the sandwich then save the other half for lunch (Reheated) the next day and enjoy it twice!
(5)Ted D.
I love this place! Been going since mid 90's (they were originally on Mendon Rd right off of Rt 295; but moved when the Viaduct on Rt 116 was closing, cutting them off from Amica, Bank of America and all of the office parks on Rt 116. What can you say about portions, HUGE! Favorites are The Freshman (breaded Chix w/ BBQ sauce), The Varone (breaded chix w/ Italian dressing), The Mutual Fund (sliced turkey & Roast Beef w/ Russian Dressing), and The Waldorf (a wrap with Chix salad w/ cranberry & walnuts). They have fries, sweet potato fries, macaroni salad, potato salad and all are great. Some apps include cheese steak or buffalo egg rolls (both really good) and deserts, brownies, blondies or cookies are quick grab at the register. It does get busy at lunch; but the line moves (at times at dinner as well). Seating is limited. The do have 2 flat screen TV's and also satellite radio going at times. My kids like the chicken finger meal and at times the sandwiches do become 2 meals (yes, that big!)
(5)Alex S.
I love this place, I don't really care how they keep the cheese steak (Karmel K.) all I know is whatever they put in it tastes amazing. Granted I've never been to philli but for RI I haven't had anything better.
(5)Jason M.
I miss working in RI just because of this place. There's times I think about driving the hour trip just to go there. Great subs, they are HUGE, and very tasty. The combinations they have are out of this world. Service is a bit slow as this place can be PACKED so calling a head during lunch/diner time is highly encouraged.
(4)Kai M.
J's is a near perfect deli/sub shop. They keep up with the time and use Boar's Head, are very friendly, and best of all have creative and delicious sandwiches. The walls are covered in specialty sandwiches, it always takes me about ten minutes to choose which one, they're all to die for. They are a little pricey but you certainly get what you pay for. A favorite in the area.
(5)zero i.
I had to read the reviews of J's before I started because if someone rated them lower than five stars, they would have gotten bitch slapped. This place is amazing! I use to go to the original J's that was located in Cumberland. I changed jobs and went back there a few years later and it wasnt the same. My friend told me that he sold it to someone else, but he is still in Smithfield. Every once in a while I get together with my friends and go out and get a corned beef reuben on a torpedo with extra cheese, a soda, a bag of chips, and some of their killer cheese filled tortillini salad (good diet eh) and I get a pickle spear too. Its cheap, its good, its clean, the staff is nice and it is the perfect place to go for a killer sandwich. Or if you are from MA like me....a wicked pissa sandwich.
(5)Sophonisba G.
I really love sandwiches. I actually feel a little silly reviewing J's because I've been about 5 times and always order the same thing-- the Fraternity, which is Willow tree chicken salad and cranberry sauce on a torpedo roll. Yummmm. It's not the cheapest place ever but it's not outrageous either. They have approximately a million different other sandwiches as well as other deli stuff (calzones, macaroni, whatever) but as I say I haven't tried any of that. You should go check it out and let me know how their other stuff is.
(4)Bret C.
J's Deli makes the best sandwiches that I have ever had. Ever. Absolutely hands down, no questions asked. There is an absurd amount of choices and virtually everything is good. Favorites of mine include the Freshman (BBQ chicken) and Gobbler (thanksgiving dinner on a sandwich). They have anything and everything you can think of. All sandwiches are about $7 and many are named after Bryant University (right around the corner) and business/college-related things. Bryant is a business school so you'll see sandwiches named things like the Stock Broker, Graduate, Freshman, Wall Street, etc. etc. In case you haven't figured it out, J's Deli makes the best sandwiches there are. Don't miss it. In fact, drive out of your way as much as you have to! You won't be disappointed.
(5)John A.
If you are looking for a deli sandwich, it looks like you can't go wrong here. I stopped by on way to a jobsite. Was starving so figured I would try this place out during lunch. The sandwiches are packed full of meat. Pretty interesting combinations offered or build your own. I have to say I loved the whitebread sub roll. Soft and tasty (like french bread) which was a pleasant surprise. I look forward to trying more here.
(4)Derek T.
So the Calzone is actually great. But you must eat the Carrot cake!!! i don't even like Carrot Cake but J's is so good you have to eat it. Maybe avoid ther cookies and brownies which are a bit average
(4)Amanda E.
Honestly I think the reputation of this place precedes itself, but I can't argue that a great sandwich can be had here. The selection is endless, and there's always a lot of cheese, sauce and bread for the money. Really though, they are just sandwiches and I think there are better deli's in the area if you're looking for a little more than the typical.
(3)Karny V.
Not bad, never heard of a sandwich shop that charges extra for a slice of cheese on your sandwich though. They need a bigger place and more attentive staff to take lunch orders as well as keep items stocked that they offer on their menu.
(3)Steven N.
love this place. we go every time we are about to head out to a road trip something along those lines. price is really chaps for what they give you. and they have almost every imaginable sandwich possible and if they don't then you can create it and they might name it after you.
(5)Lindsay M.
J's is the best place around to get a sandwich! Their selection is huge...lots of options for everyone. Their sandwiches are huge...you can get 2 meals out of one sandwich. The staff at J's is also very nice...it's always the same people working there. Whenever I go home I make sure to stop at J's on my way by!
(5)Dani G.
DELICIOUS!!!! This is the only deli where I can truly say, there is a sandwhich for everyone..they have so much variety hot...cold...grilled...anything. You will not be disappinted. Please note, they are no open on Sundays in the summer- I learned that the hard way.
(5)Paul M.
Everything Stephanie said is absolutely 100% true. The sandwiches are a good foot long and absolutely packed with whatever may come in them. There are a myriad of very original and very delictable sandwiches and a variety of weekly and monthly sandwiches as well. They have soups, calzones, salads, soda, deserts, etc. The staff are very friendly and helpful, and the best part is that the sandwiches are all under 10 dollars (unless you get a lobster one...that's around 14 dollars which is understandable).
(5)Stephanie H.
ALL AROUND BEST SANDWICHES IN RHODE ISLAND. Not only are the sandwiches the largest sandwiches you can get they are also easy on your pocket. The menu is massive but not overwhelming...homemade soups and chowders, Lo-Carb selections, Wraps, Calzones and packed salads. Their staff is friendly & quick, call-in orders ready for you when you arrive, and they also have a large catering menu for business events.
(5)
