It was my sister's birthday, and after trying to find a new place to go out to dinner with the whole family, someone suggested Avenue N. None of us had been there previously, and did not know what to expect. We made reservations for 6:30 and I notified them ahead of time that it was a birthday and asked if it was alright that I brought in cupcakes. They were totally fine with it, and even set the cupcakes up nicely on a platter I brought in. The restaurant itself is relatively small, and we were tucked away nicely in a corner. I imagine this to be a very cozy spot on a blustery Rhode Island winter evening. We ordered a bunch of appetizers for the table, most notably the calamari. After seeing the size of their pizzas on yelp, I decided to split one with my sister, and order the black bean bisque to go along with it. The bisque was delicious and I was full after eating it. The pizza was amazing and definitely large enough to split. The service was great, decor was nice and bathrooms very clean and spacious. I'll definitely be back... Most likely on that blustery winter evening.

I visited Avenue N with a group of friends on a Thursday night. Unlike most restaurants this placed was packed even on a Thursday night. The atmosphere was lively and comforting even though it was a tad noisy. The noisiness was attributed to a group of middle aged customers sitting next to us enjoying their meals to the fullest. Anyhow back to the restaurant experience. As soon as we walked in we were warmly greeted by the well-dressed hostess, Traci. This set the tone for the night. We had a reservation so we were seated immediately. Traci sat us at a modestly decorated table on the side of the restaurant. The table was decorated in minimalist style. There was a cute vase with a beautiful orange colored chrysanthemum inside. The table was very clean. There weren't any old wine glass stains or anything. After being seated our server greeted us instantly and filled our water glasses. Her name was Suzy. She was very friendly and a bright smile on her face. Suzy never let our water glasses go past half. She answered all our questions about the menu without hesitation. She took our orders and placed them straightaway. We had ordered the Pepperoni & Sopressata pizza, New Bedford Cod Filet, Braised All Natural Beef Short Rib, and Pan Seared Bomster Sea Scallops. Our food took approximately 30 minutes to arrive which is a reasonable because we did order the braised short rib. When we received our meals it was hot and extremely enticing to the eyes. The food was plated nicely and clean. Our food was so delicious that we wanted to lick our plates. We ate every single bite. Our server did check in with us periodically to ask if the food was good, see if we needed anything, and fill our water glasses. After eating she listed the dessert options for the night. There wasn't a dessert menu at the time, but she described the desserts so well that we had to try something. We were already full from dinner however we weren't leaving without trying the Crème Brulee and Chocolate Chip cookies. Dessert was a happy ending to a wonderful night. The Crème Brulee was caramelized to perfection. It was so delicious and the chocolate chip cookies were so rich and decadent. We finished our desserts and were presented with the check in a timely manner. The order was correct on the bill so we paid the bill and started to leave. Before we left were thanked and invited to come again. This was one of the best dining experiences I've ever had.

We snagged the last available reservation for Mother's Day brunch, and the experience started right there: a call to say the time I requested online via their website was unavailable, but they did have an opening a little later. Such accommodating and nice service. When there is something an establishment can't do, it is the mark of great service when they counter with what they CAN. Between the four of us we had a sampling of apps and main dishes. I had the turnip (or was it parsnip?) soup to start, which was absolutely divine. I am not a huge fan of root vegetables, but this was smooth and rich without being overly creamy. I had the poached eggs, others had the wild mushroom omelet, eggs 'my' way, and spinach salad. No one complained. The only issue with the food was that we had to order a side of homefries with the eggs 'my' way - we assumed it was part of the dish, although the menu was in no way misleading. I appreciated the cocktail offering of a Pim's cup - something rarely encountered and one of my favorite Spring/Summer day-cocktails! The service was prompt and efficient- but advice to our waitress: do not refer to your female patrons as "doll". This is not a 20s musical. Thank you. Looking forward to returning to this rehabilitated industrial complex for dinner soon!

Great old school vs new school atmosphere, FANTASTIC food and friendly, attentive wait staff makes this a MUST for anyone looking for a REALLY great meal.

I had my first visit yesterday, and was pleasantly surprised by this cozy little restaurant. Seasonal menu and in an airy mill building space that seems to be visited frequently by its loft mill neighbors. Everything my table had was delicious (the turnip soup, oyster appetizer and short rib braised in red wine were the standouts in my opinion). We had a long wait due to the small space and the place was packed, so reservations are definitely recommended. I need to visit more to make sure this place is consistently good as this first time before I rate it higher, but this place has a lot of potential and is off to a great start.

It was our first night of vacation in the Providence area and we stumbled upon Avenue N. What a great find! It was late and we ordered small plates. All were outstanding including the mussels with kale and the lobster dumplings. The dessert was a trio of homemade ice creams including blackberry, ice tea, and almond. A wonderful way to end a meal. We vowed to return and came back on our last night for a proper meal starting with a delicious salad of butter lettuce, ham, and pecorino cheese. My husband had the perfectly prepared scallops with a flavorful risotto while I tried the vegetarian ravioli with mushrooms, tomatoes, and cheese. The dessert was ricotta donuts with a lovely cream anglais. Truly a memorable meal. Both meals were made even better by the outstanding service. The servers were helpful, friendly, and delighted to answer our every question. Do not miss this fun place with great, farm fresh food!

I love this place, it is my husband & my favorite date night spot. The owners are great, they make an effort to remember their customers. No matter how busy they are they always make an effort to seat us. I love their salads & grilled pizzas. I also appreciate that they change their menu periodically, it keeps it fresh. I have never had anything I didn't enjoy.

The food at Avenue N is excellent. You really can't go wrong when ordering the calamari, Rueben Sliders, Baby Spinach Salad, or one of the soups for a starter. I have enjoyed all of them on several occasions. For a less expensive night out, you really can't go wrong with the pizzas. They can feed 2 people and are very reasonably priced at $10-$13. The Avenue Burger and Short Rib are excellent meals that are truly excellent. There is a variety of mixed drinks that are quite refreshing and a decent list of wines by the glass and bottle. All in all, the food is excellent, the service is great, and the atmosphere is fun. Be sure to call ahead though. It is a small restaurant, and with the quality of food, it fills up quickly.

This place was awesome. The first thing that I got excited about when I walked through the door was the fact that they had the Abita Jaquimo IPA on tap-- probably one of my favorite IPAs and I've never seen it bottled so far north, much less on tap! Sweet. The food was delicious-- and I mean every single course. There were 4 of us and we got an app each plus an entree each and two desserts for the table and all tasted each other's food-- every single dish was spot on. I was especially pleased with the crab cakes because they were actually ~90% crabmeat (my pet peeve is when you order crab cakes and they come and they're mostly breading with some crab thrown in- why would I pay $12 for bread patties, exactly?). We also had the iceberg salad (so flavorful!), the chicken, the salmon, the scallops, and the steak, plus the orange creme brulee and the brownie sundae. They were also accommodating-- I wanted the scallops with grits instead of with risotto, and it was no problem. I'm sad to say that over the years I've become somewhat of a foodie, but this place hit every note perfectly all the way through dinner. Will definitely be back as soon as I can!

Been to Avenue N a few times now and the food is consistently good. It's a very eclectic menu and you never know what you're going to get, Everything is always prepared in a thoughtful way. Don't go during traditionally busy times or you may end up waiting in this small place. Otherwise, very good food and service overall. You are going to be sitting one or two feet from your fellow diners so if you are looking for that private, quiet table, you are not going to find it here. I do recommend this place if you are looking for a cozy, sociable, and creative experience. The legendary Seven Stars is next door too and also worth the visit. Try Avenue N for brunch - very good Benny!

I love this place. I have been a few times and I was blown away by the food. My only qualm is that they only serve lunch/brunch on Sundays. I wanted to go there 4-5 times in the last two weeks with groups of varying size but they were closed for lunch. Maybe, at the very least, they could open on Saturday for lunch as well. Anyway, thank you for the great food and the relaxing ambiance.

What's not to love? We sidled in on a week night thinking we would have no problem getting a table. Boy were we wrong. We ended up at the bar, which was no problem. I loved their expansive marble bar and the industrial feel of the entire place. They have plenty of delicious beers on tap and a menu packed with local farm-to-table delicacies. This owner took a risk opening a restaurant in suburban Rumford but I applaud him on this. The result is a wonderful dining spot that serves tasty and thoughtful meals. I will definitely be back!

Loved the decor at this place: they managed maintain the historic qualities of the location -- which used to be Rumford Chemical Works -- while still coming across as polished and clean. Very interesting. Our waitress was phenomenal -- friendly, funny, and helpful. My friend ordered the lemonade and raved about it! I tried a sip and I have to agree: it's probably the best lemonade I've been served at a restaurant. The menu selection is quite small -- and I have to cut them some slack for that, because I really think they make an attempt to be seasonal and local with their produce and they seem to make things fresh to order. The menu on their website is expanded, and does not reflect what they have available every time you visit, which I think is misleading. I ordered the soup of the day: a sweet potato bisque, which was delicious. My friend ordered the Crisp Iceberg salad, which comes in an iceberg lettuce "bowl" essentially. She didn't care much for the dressing, but I enjoyed it. I tend to order salads as entrees, but that was a mistake at this restaurant! The Heirloom Tomato Salad I ordered was $8 and TINY! It packed a big flavor punch but it was, like, a baby-sized portion. I was still hungry by the end of the meal. Meanwhile, my friend ordered the Avenue "N" Burger for $11 and it was HUGE and so, so delicious. Really, that burger was incredible. Although they have 4 delicious-sounding desserts listed on their menu online, none of them were available when we went, which was so disappointing. They only had two desserts; we ordered the cheesecake. It was good in flavor, but it possibly needed more time to thaw out, it was ice cold and the texture was off.

In my last review of Avenue N, after visiting only twice, I remarked that it was an "easy 5 stars" in Rumford, and would probably score a solid 4/4.5 if it had to contend with restaurants on Federal Hill in Providence. I've been back several times at this point, and boy has it changed --for the better. This little restaurant continues to keep its relatively small menu fresh, and cycles through new dishes with great regularity. Tonight, for the first time, I got to try some of the new things they have on their fall menu. Many of the old-time standards have been slightly updated in their trimmings (for instance, the sirloin steak now comes with a whole grain mustard glace, and the salmon with banana potatoes and citrus butter), but it's the new dishes that are out of this world. Tonight, I tried the Sweet Potato and Tasso Ham pizza, with arugula, sage, ricotta, and gorgonzola, and I can unequivocally say that it was one of the best pizzas I've ever had. Ever. And I don't make that statement lightly. Every dish felt slightly more streamlined, more powerful, more composed, and they spoke loudly (a friend tried the swordfish special, and you'd certainly have to go to Hemenway's or better to get a plate of swordfish that even comes close). The point is, Avenue N has stepped their game up, and it shows. This restaurant could handily go head-to-head with any of my favorites on the Hill, and walk away without so much as a scratch.

We sat at the bar. Bartenders very professional and friendly. We had great burgers! Love the calamari...it was a slow night, so we were well attended to.

Awesome place! Nice decor/ambiance. We had the margarita pizza for an app, which was amazing. We also both had the short ribs, gorgonzola mash, and asparagus. Everything was great and we cleaned our plates, which is rare for me. Very good and will return!

Avenue N is a great spot. The food is fresh. The chef only uses local ingredients. The staff is friendly and the atmosphere is fun. Must try the Reuben sliders, Mac and cheese, and lemon ricotta donuts. They're cocktails are great and created by their on staff mixologists, my favorite is the white out.

We decided to give Avenue N another chance and were glad we did! We stopped by for brunch a few weeks ago and it was legit. We ordered the ricotta dough-nuts for an appetizer, I could have eaten a dozen myself, so tasty! We also ordered the coffee crusted sirloin with poached eggs and the spinach omelet. The sirloin was awesome, cooked to medium-rare perfectly, well seasoned, a great dish. The omelet was just alright, home fries were tasty though along with fries with truffle oil. The service was friendly and quick despite being a busy day. Highly recommend.

Ya, so... came in for dinner. Had high expectations, and they were all met. Waitress was a doll, very nice and cordial. Had the duck sausage again, was delicious again. I'll say tho, I still feel it has Fall written all over it, but, I could care less the time of year, its a great dish and a perfect app for 2, just enough to get your appetite going. I also tried a few bites of the turnip soup. This was absolutely incredible. Very silky, awesome texture, and believe it or not, if was borderline refreshing. Sounds like a heavy soup, but it definitely isn't. Light and delicate in flavor, not very sweet... mmm delish! I ordered the short ribs. And for the rest of my life, I will order the short ribs. Tender is an understatement. Divine is an insult. Tasty would be a laughable description. This dish was HEAVEN. You know some people how they say you can "cut it with a fork" but in the back of your mind, you are saying "this dipshit doesn't know a goddamn thing about food, idiot"... believe me when i tell you, my knife stayed on the table. There isn't a word to desribe it. The green beans were cooked perfect to al dente, however the horseradish potatoes could have used a bit more horseradish... i barely tasted it. Also had some of the sirloin... delicious, but... in all honesty i wasn't really thinking about it after how incredible the short ribs were.. and i'm usually a NY strip/filet/ribeye kind of guy. So I can't really say much about it, lol... but it was good. Had a couple bites of the mushroom ravioli.. also incredible. The truffle flavor in this dish was just enough to get your attention, then the rest of the bite mellowed out into a clean, earthy, bitter, and somewhat sweet light aftertaste of the figs. Such a fan! Well done. Ended with the churros.... (sp?) Light, flaky, great texture, awesome little chocolate dipping sauce. Perfect to finish off with my very reasonably priced bottle of Rodney Strong Merlot 2008. Coming back, very, very soon.

What are the odds that I can find a small cozy place for me and the wife and have corn dogs and mac & cheese on the appetizer menu for my 9 year old daughter !! One way to describe this restaurant HEAVEN... before I go on, remember that old adage "you get what you pay for", well it's alive & true. Avenue N is not cheap, but it's one of those places where you feel that the money was well spent. So, my wife and I have a couple drinks, house drinks by a true mixologist.. Impressive and both were outstanding !! I had the White Out: house infused cranberry vodka, orange, lemon syrup, allagash white. And the wife had the John Daly: absoult wild tea vodka, agave nectar, fresh squeezed lemonade, black tea. Onto the FOOD !! My daughter had the aforementioned hand battered corn dogs with mac & cheese. She absolutely LOVED it, and the chipotle ketchup that came with it delicious.. Wife and I had the steamed Lobster dumplings, mouth watering little clouds of perfection.. Entrees: Wife had the pan seared scallops, best she ever had and I had to agree.. I had the avenue N burger, I know what your thinking a burger really.. Yes a burger and holy crap Batman, it was the BEST burger I have ever had.. Avenue N: Great Drinks, delicious food, Great service. A little pricey but worth Every penny !!! Highly recommended... Make sure to make reservations !!!

I really wanted to like this place but unfortunately, its still a work in progress. The staff, while enthusiastic, was a bit of a mess - and didn't bring water to the table despite about 4 visits by the waitress. The quality of the food, in general, is quite good, but value varies greatly. Their pizzas are huge and cheap, at $10 for a margherita and $13 for a mushroom, while ravioli was absurdly expensive at $18 for 4 average size squares. The heirloom tomato salad was decent. The decor is pretty cool, with nice attention to detail, although they need to figure out a better a/c situation for hot days. There are a few vegi dishes, but its mostly a meat/fish menu.

the quality of the food is great,,,but the value is awful,, Avenue "N" Stuffed Chicken Wings. shrimp & pork sausage stuffing, black mushrooms, peanuts, sweet & sour sauce for $9.00,,,,,,,,,, four of the tiniest wings you can find....with a unedible wing tip...and middle section...and a pinch of stuffing,,the burger was flat and crowned over the veggies to appear larger,, very skimpy portions to give them a greater profit margin just my opinion......... chef knows

We have been to dinner twice; first time was very good, enjoyed the ambiance and the cuisine very much. We went for the second time for a birthday celebration of a family member and clearly stated to the server our occasion. On our second visit the burger was overcooked, the pizza we ordered listed chantrelles mushrooms on the menu but was overcrowded by button mushrooms. Short ribs were dry, dessert was donuts with a weak candle stuck in the center of it and the dessert was on our tab. This is the hospitality industry - thought we'd be treated a bit better for Mom's birthday celebration. For a chef of his caliber, I had high expectations for both food and service. Corn dog and mac & cheese are a great American dish that we enjoyed and the ruben sliders are great too. Martini's are rather expensive, cost us $25 for two drinks at the bar our first visit. It's apparent the chef enjoys staring out into his dining room more so than his kitchen.

I really like Avenue N and I think it is a great addition to Rumford. The owners are great, and the wait staff is helpful. The restaurant itself is tiny and tends to always be crowded, so I would recommend reservations. I have had several items off the menu, as well as specials, and enjoyed them all. Their drinks are delicious. The brunch is fantastic - rabbit sausage and beignets are divine! Definitely worth checking out, and even with part of North Broadway closed, it's really just over the Henderson Bridge! I would not judge this restaurant by its review in RI Monthly, which seemed a bit harsh to me. Check it out for yourself and I doubt you'll be disappointed. It hasn't even been open a year, so I am willing to allow for some growing pains so long as the food is good.

Great experience! Had the calamari which was cooked perfectly; crunchy cornmeal and hot peppers. Next we each had a salad. I had the beet salad and my husband had the mixed greens. We were going to order one and split it but assumed they would be too small. We were wrong! The salads were beautiful, large and fresh. We split the mushroom pizza which was delicious and huge too. I had the Cosmo, which was the best I've ever had, so I had two more! Staff was very friendly and accommodating. Great atmosphere. A little gem in rumford!

We love this restaurant!! We dined here for a second time this past Sat night and sat outdoors. The food is absolutely delicious from beginning to end. We started with the field green salad which was wonderful! It was perfectly dressed with a zesty citrus dressing. The calamari was also excellent. I had the short ribs, which are melt in your mouth delicious and my fiance had the hanger steak which he also loved-and he is a tougher critic than I am. We finished the meal with espresso martinis for "dessert." They are not on the menu, but they made them based on our request and they were delicous! Avenue N is affordable, the service is excellent and the food is top notch! We will be back again soon.

Top notch food. Always good, interesting, fresh, and With an effort to use seasonal local ingredients. Pizzas are killer. As a neighbor wish it was a bit more affordable. The type of place you could go weekly, but its hard to get out of there spending less then $60-$70 for two. So it has been our once in a great while place. The burger although great is even $12. Agree with a past review in regards to under cooked burgers. Have had the burger twice, both times has been delivered as rare despite ordered as medium. Worth a try, certainly will be back.

OMGGGGGGGGGG. Our friends took us here for dinner because they had been raving about it ever since we moved here and wanted us to try it out. It did not disappoint! Such delicious food and drinks! My friend's favorite drink is the bourbon hayride, which I think is just seasonal for fall and winter. Really tasty if you like bourbon and apple cider. We shared some sliders for apps and they were delish. Everyone's entrees were yummy, and the best part of course was dessert. Warm out of the oven chocolate chip cookies with ice cream. Mmmmmmmmmm... We also had the chance to talk with the very friendly owner, who told us about their commitment to local food, which is another plus! I highly recommend, and I look forward to going back soon!

My first visit and we ordered the calamari to start, I got the Brussel sprout and cauliflower pizza and a cocktail with rhubarb. The cocktail was sweeter than I would have liked but quality ingredients were clearly used. The calamari was really good - crisp and lightly fried in the RI style with fresh peppers and an interesting sauce. I ate so much of it that I only had room for a couple slices of pizza which was flavorful and the crust had a nice, chewy texture. The decor wax casual but nice like an upscale mill/farm. It's small with a lot of hard surfaces so it's hard to have much conversation. It's a good place for a casual meal and a nice beer, especially if you live in the area.

I'd been meaning to get to Avenue N for a while. Then one recent Sunday night -- by BFF and I went. I will say that it was not what we were expecting -- that being said -- it was fantastic! Small, intimate space with the bar area spilling into the dining area with tables. High ceilings with a partially open kitchen. It was cozy. (I hear there's a patio out back in warmer weather -- it was early May when I was there and the weather hadn't warmed up yet). We sat at the bar. There were hooks for your purse -- thank you for attention to the little details The menu is just the right length that you will surely find something to suit your fancy, but not so long that making a decision feels near impossible. I had the roasted beet salad (with blue cheese and candied nuts) and crab-stuffed squash blossoms (one of the night's specials). The combination made for just the dinner I wanted. My friend had the roasted corn soup and the ceasar salad. She is still talking about how good it was. We agreed as we left that we look forward to going back again.

Food was terrific. The drink menu was creative!!!!!! Could really make this a fave. However, welcoming new patrons should be a priority, just as making regulars feel comfortable is. I showed up alone to meet some friends on a Tuesday night. While I was waiting, with 3 set ups at the bar. Two regulars were shown over to where I was. I was forced to move so they could have "their" seats. After having a bad day, this ticked me off. It also forced a guy across the bar to move to accommodate myself and my two friends. I bought him a beer!!!! Anyway, it made me feel like I wasn't as important as the regulars. The hostess walked by and said to me "the corner is better anyway". Again, amazing food and drinks, the missing piece is treating all your customers with respect!

The food at Avenue N is delicious!! Fellow Yelpers, I had all the best intentions of taking a picture of my meal for you, but it was just too delicious, and I ate it too fast! I started with the Glorius Ruby - which is one of their craft elixirs. Tasty blend of sweet and sour, and the perfect way to start the night. My co-diner and I ordered the corn dog with mac n cheese appetizer and the steak and mushroom pizza. It was at this point in the evening when Avenue N lost one star. We waited. And waited. And waited some more.... Until almost an hour passed.... However, when we were finally blessed with the presence of food on our table, we were pleasantly surprised! The pizza is huge (definitely plan to share) and the mac and cheese smelled fantastic. Everything tasted delicious!! After the wait I was very pleased to be enjoying my meal, and I would go back again. The food is that good!

This place is great!! The burger is definitely the best value and it tastes amazing (the burger is also great for take out.) The other food is delicious but a bit pricier. I wasn't a huge fan of the pizza but it's ok and also pretty inexpensive. It's an awesome place to sit and eat- really great modern atmosphere with a cool industrial feel to it. Perfect for a date night!

Yum Yum Yum! Avenue N is fresh, tasty, and friendly! Walk into this East Providence establishment, and you're instantly welcomed by a friendly hostess - who is actually the owner! We tried the oatmeal stout on tap, and found it to be absolutely delicious. If you'd like a fun cocktail - try the bourbon hayride. It was a sweet and tasty concoction! Avenue N is an intimate setting, but not intrusive. About 14 people can sit and eat at the bar, and there are approximately 11 other tables. I think it's an ideal place for a first date- because it's small and loud, but not impersonal. The light bulbs are super cool - I took a picture here on yelp - and the entire restaurant has a good amalgam of modern and vintage decor and service. There is exposed brick and beams, big windows, outdoor seating, and a marble bar. They offer a decent mix of specialty beers, fine wines, and a variety of spirits. The exterior and surrounding neighborhood don't do the interior justice, but I like it because it keeps this gem slightly hidden. Plenty of parking, and areas to sit outside. Overall, I'm quite pleased with Avenue N - and can't wait to go again for some fresh local eats!

The environment is very nice. However the place is very inconsistent. I had gone to visit a regular bartender and the following week she was no longer working there. Also the menu I credit it for being different. However paying for a corn dog doesn't impress me nor did a burger with such a small bun, it wouldn't even fit the size of the burger patty. I guess the best thing about this place was the very unwelcoming hostess who stands at the door and doesn't greet you. Felt like I walked in and got stares from the MOD, rather than a smile and a polite greeting. Well the joke is on her because I wont be returning. As a server downtown providence there is 1,000 better places to waste my time at! Thanks but no thanks...I can make my own Mac and Cheese!

A+ for attitude and a damn good meal. While we were there we were personally greeted by both owners. It's the kind of place where they chef will ask you how your food is and the hostess will help you put on your jacket. And the food - wow. The margarita pizza was fantastic, perfect from the sauce to the cheese to the crust. And the cauliflower turnip bisque with truffle oil was off the charts. Brought me back to my days in Seattle tasting truffle oils and that was a glorious flashback. Make reservations or come after 8:30 otherwise you'll hit a well-deserved wait (that will be worth it). Loved everything about Avenue N and we'll be back again soon. Update: Have been back a few times now, fabulous every time! Try their brunch!

What a nice surprise. Went here for a birthday dinner and the six of us all enjoyed our experience. From the reasonably-priced (and delicious) mixed drinks to the reuben sliders to the lobster dumplings to the scallops and risotto to the grand finale of cheesecake, it was a great meal all around. It's not a big restaurant so make sure you make reservations on the weekend, and they also have some outdoor seating which I'm sure is nice in warmer weather. What's keeping this from five stars is that (1) I was a little surprised they didn't serve any bread, esp. seeing as Seven Stars Bakery is right next door, (2) my scallops were nicely seared on the top but the bottom of them weren't seared at all (Gordon Ramsay is a stickler for searing scallops on both sides), and (3) the ricotta donuts dessert had a tasty exterior but a very blah interior. While I would more than likely have the cheesecake again, those that had the donuts weren't very enthused by them and I have to agree. I'm just a little perturbed I didn't try the short ribs; I ordered the scallops as I thought I would be able to grab some steak from my family members, but everyone devoured their meals which shows how delicious the food was. Oh well, I'll be back and next time I'm going for the short ribs!

They've got a small yet creative and seasonal (items change every 8-12 weeks) menu using ingredients that are locally grown and sold. The place isn't all that large so making a reservation ahead of time is a good idea. Our server suggested I try the cauliflower and turnip bisque, and I have to admit I was a little apprehensive about turnips being listed as one of the main ingredients but it was excellent. Its consistency was rich without an overwhelming saltiness that I've found many bisques to have. My boyfriend ordered the pork belly appetizer and it was delicious. One bite of it reminded me of the pork I often bought with my family from NYC's Chinatown. My entree was an order of the sweet potato and ricotta ravioli which was both sour and sweet incorporating goat cheese to balance out the sweet potatoes. It was definitely a combination of tastes I never expected to find in a ravioli dish, but yummy all the same. I can't wait to return next season to try more creative dishes!

Excellent Restaurant! It is a bit on the small side, so we made reservations. Everyone that works there is very friendly and helpful. We were immediately greeted on the way in. There are two separate dining areas, but both offer the same menu. We ate in the "pantry" and loved every second of it! The menu is full of creative and unique entrees and selections. My boyfriend tried the cauliflower and turnip bisque, with truffle oil and loved it! For his entree, he had the lamb sliders and couldn't stop raving about them. I had a meatloaf special wrapped with applewood smoked bacon, served with mashed potatoes and finished the whole thing! Make reservations, and give this restaurant a try!!

It's been on my "list" for quite some time and I finally made it there this evening. FABULOUS! Not only is the food fantastic but the owner truly creates a warm and welcoming atmosphere. We had the calamari, steamed clams and steak and mushroom pizza, a burger as well as a couple of soups and salads! All delicious. I will definitely become a regular. Can't wait to go back.

Incredible, intimate, upscale, affordable dining option. Had the most amazing old fashioned to complement my sea scallops and risotto. Friendly staff, modern decor, awesome mood. This is a can't miss location. Mange!

Great kitchen, great staff in the dining room. Emily and Katie know the food and drinks well. I'm updating my original review based on subsequent visits. Ave N has the blessing and curse of a regular customer base. The good is that they'll stay in business, the bad is 1) You can't pop in spontaneously because they're full. and 2) The regulars develop favorites on the menu and never want them to go away. Consequently, the menu gets a little stagnant. - Every restaurant has their six million dollar burger, but this one is crazy good. Ordered bloody rare. - The TVs. There you are enjoying a dish of exquisite scallops and you look up and there's a f*****ng hockey game on not one, but TWO TVs. What's next Keno and karaoke night? - The temperature is a little wild. There are spots in the room where you'll keep your hat and coat on, and other tables where you want a bucket of ice for your head. - The water the use is Rhode Island tap. Sure it's not as rank as some cities, but they need a heavy-duty filter. Most locals probably don't notice it. A minor thing, but it tastes like old cast iron pipes. - The music usually just adds noise to the room. Once and awhile it adds a little something nice, but mostly just raises the decibel level. Like I said, almost perfect. TIP: It's popular and crowded. Call ahead unless you like eating at 9pm.

Great for brunch! Pretty well priced brunch menu and a range of choices. The omelet was pretty good---better than the description---they could beef up the description it's a lot better than the text. Burger also solid. Cute place, but I can definitely see it getting crowded. Recommend a reservation.

Ugh. I honestly don't like to make negative reviews but Avenue N didn't reach my expectations. I ordered the corn dog and Mac n cheese appetizer. That was pretty yummy. (anything deep fried tastes good, I find). The sauce accompanying the dogs had a nice sweet, tangy bite to it. The Mac n cheese smelled fresh with wholesome milk and stringy cheese. I feel this dish is difficult to screw up, though. As for my meal, I ordered the well-known braised beef dish (full name escapes me at moment). It was... alright. I've had better. The flavor of the beef was lost to me. Does that mean local RI cows don't taste as good, or is this a result of the chef? Also, mashed potatoes were too salty. I also tried the ever popular ravioli with mushrooms. This was pretty good with the ravioli having a nice al dente texture. But, it was ok... Not spectacular. I've had better on the Hill. What really brings down the review is that they didn't give us napkins or water. The host didn't greet us at all. Very odd. But he will greet others that he knows. I am one that will pay for good food, but the taste was mediocre coupled by negligent service. I feel the only thing they've got going for them is fresh ingredients, which is a concept that I like. I would have given three stars but customer service was out of place. Oh, and I almost forgot to add that the price is too high for such poor service and mediocre food.

I have been to Avenue N a few times and my experience continues to get better and better. I have been for brunch and dinner and the food is truly full of flavor, fresh and often local. For brunch I've enjoyed both the spinach and mushroom omlets that come with a super crunchy, thin cut toasted italian slice brushed with a smidge of oil. For dinner I've enjoyed the roasted chicken - it's not like any old roasted chicken - REALLY delicious, fresh and full of flavor. They also have a wonderful cocktail list.

I've driven by Avenue N a hundred times but never really gave it a second thought. After reading review on Yelp i decided to give it a try. It was valentines so i wanted to try something new and different. Immediately i thought of going to Avenue N. I went online to their website and made a reservation. When we got there I was greeted by the hostess/owner Tracy and she ushered us to our seats. Looking at the decor it had a lot of character. It's a small place maybe seating 30 people plus 10 more at the bar. Some people complained about the TV's being obnoxious. There a 2 small 32" TV's at the bar. They weren't distracting at all. Being that most(if not all) the ingredients are fresh and local, the menu is small. That's ok as long as it good! For an appetizer i ordered Mac n Chz. I love Mac n Chz so it's hard to resist ordering it when i saw it on the menu. The cheese sauce was like a cheesy Alfredo sauce and it also had a cheese crunch topping. I liked it a lot. I'm a picky eater and beef fan so i ordered cheeseburger and fries. The hamburg is fresh grass-fed beef and the fries are hand cut from a actual real potato(which is unheard of in most restaurants) They gave me a huge mound of fries on my plate, more than enough to share. The burger was tender and tasty and the fries was hot and salted perfect with kosher or sea salt. My wife ordered a salad and a Margarita Pizza. The salad was a decent size but not big enough for a meal. The Margarita Pizza was huge and it was cooked on the grill! It can easily would feed 2 people. My wife loved it and they didn't skimp on the toppings either. My wife ate about 1/4 of the pizza and took the rest to go. She had it for leftovers and got 2 more meals out of it! When we were leaving Nick the owner/Chef was saying goodbye to us from grill area. I complimented him on the good food and let him know it was our first time there. He was all smiles and he was thankful that we came there eat. I let him know that we tried Avenue N because of Yelp and he acknowledged that he gets a lot of Yelpers in the restaurant. I could tell he was genuine and that he really cared that his customers were leaving his restaurant happy. So with tip it was just under $50. Cheap? No. Quality? Yes! Like with anything else, you get what you pay for! Would i come back to Avenue N? Absolutely! A+

You cannot go wrong there. We've gone there often and always had great meals. Seasonal, thoughtfully prepared, lovely presentations. Locally sourced meats, fish and produce. Original drinks. Try the Number 3 Cosmo! It can be a bit noisy but in warm weather you can choose to eat outside and it's quieter there. The prices are really reasonable.

I'm not a huge fan of breakfast in general, but it was mother's day, and you do what mommy wants to do. She had seen this place on the Phantom Gourmet, and decided that she wanted to give it a try. First, the place is much smaller than we expected. That's not necessarily a drawback, as it was well furnished and quite cute, but it didn't help the noise levels any of course. We were all pleased with our food, but my home fries were lukewarm, so that was a drawback. They were still tasty though! I got the home fries mentioned above, and the lemon ricotta donuts. Note to a first time diner here: The lemon ricotta donuts were good, but not what you would expect. I thought they would have a lemon ricotta filling, but no. They are literally a lemon ricotta dough, so they only have a hint of lemon taste, and of course ricotta is a very mild tasting cheese, so you hardly taste that at all. My mother and brother liked their food very much, although my mother's French toast was very rich, which you might expect when white chocolate and raspberries are involved. My bloody mary was perfectly seasoned, I didn't have to ask for it spicy, but came with odd garnishings of a lemon, lime, and olive, but no celery. Go figure. I would definitely like to try this place for dinner, as that is more up my alley. If you are using a GPS to get here, our GPS told us that the restaurant was on the opposite side of the street, and also the entrance is really not on Newman at all, but on the side street off of Newman, so keep that in mind.

Great menu, always evolving while maintaining some key staples. Consistently well-chosen, knowledgable, and amiable waitstaff. VERY good cocktails. Appreciative owners who seem to listen and care. OBNOXIOUS and out of place TV is enormous and needs to be removed.

Place is legit. Nice location, local ingredients, creative cocktails, and fair prices. Ordered wings as an appetizer and they were great, significant other ordered the burger and she said it was fantastic, I ordered a scallop and shrimp dish that was fresh and had tons of flavor. The server was nice and and attentive, and I especially enjoy that the chef/owner was there in the kitchen. The only possible negative could be that the seating is a little tight, well worth a visit.

Went back for brunch and had a burger. It was OK. I enjoyed the bread, although it was too large to eat so I had to cut the burger in half and eat one bread side at a time. The meat had no real flavor and I had to ask for ketchup. I was totally wishing I had ordered french toast or something more traditional (not lunch). Coffee was not favorable and the tea we ordered was a Lipton black tea. I would have preferred something a little better. No fresh fruit juice available. We ordered fresh fruit before our main course and the berries were flavorless. Overall, I would rather go here for dinner.

It was fine, a bit cramped when we went but cozy enough. The food and drinks were nice, interesting, thoughtful and well presented for a reasonable price. They're definitely putting their hearts into it and I wish them luck.

This place is great. Went for Easter brunch - started things off with deviled eggs and thoroughly enjoyed. For my entree, had coffee crusted sirloin with poached eggs and it was tremendous. Fresh and cooked perfectly. For dessert, the creme brulee was top notch and I was fortunate enough to also try the brownie sundae, which was splendid. If you go make reservations - only a few tables with a small bar. I've been here 3 times so far and have no complaints.

I was excited to try this new restaurant opened by Nick Elkhay, former head chef for the Chow Fun Food Group. Every table was full on a recent Saturday night visit. Paul, our waiter, was fun and helpful, offering recommendations on the drink menu such vodka selection, etc. I like their twists on the classics. The homemade celery bitters really enhanced the house dirty martini. Appetizers sounded delicious and they were! A rabbit sausage, a tasty tuna tartare and an adult corn dog accompanied by gouda mac and cheese. The entrees were good but a bit underseasoned. I ordered the short rib and missed the flavor of the stout and bbq in the accompanying sauce. The grits were bland to the point of tasteless. I should have taken Paul's advice on his recommendation of the pork loin entree but there's always next time. We didn't indulge in dessert that night but will certainly be back, even if just for apps and drinks. I have my eye on the reuben sliders and pancetta wrapped shrimp. As a new restaurant, I know they are still fine tuning things but Avenue N is solid- a seasoned chef, a nice, casual setting with exposed brick interior and a cute patio for outdoor eating, a delicious selection of entrees. Price was reasonable too. Martinis from $7 to $9 and entrees in the $20 range.

Superb food and chef/owners who truly care. Great neighbrohood vibe. I love the elixir of the day, fried oysters, wedge salad, any fish, burger, scallops, and the brussel sprout/cauliflower pizza is to die for. You can go to Al Forno or Siena, but you won't find better food, and the chef won't be coming out to your table to see how you are enjoying your meal. Nick exemplifies how every restauranteur should be. We are real foodies and this is at the top of our list in RI!

This was a cute and different place to eat. I liked the app the best -the Mac and cheese and corn dogs. Those corn dogs were SO good!!! The short rib was also good, and I enjoyed the banana split, except they were cheap-o on the hot fudge! Service was good. My friend and I split the short ribs and they were nice enough to bring us individual plates. I would definitely try it here again!!

What a hidden gem! Was in the area for work and decided to stop by for dinner. The interior is adorable and modern with plenty of outdoor seating as well. I ordered the eggplant and lentil cassoulet and to be honest had no clue what it would end up being when it came out. It was a pleasant surprise to say the least! Not to mention the large portion size and super fast and friendly service. My friend ordered the burger and wolfed down the fries faster than I've ever seen before - he said they were the greatest. Definitely stop by for dinner - you won't be disappointed!

Been there at least a couple dozen times. Always outstanding food and service with an always changing seasonal, creative, and local menu... without the need to go the rest of the way into Providence. I've been there in shorts and had burgers and beers with the guys, in a suit for drinks after work, with the wife for a dinner date, and with the whole family for brunch... and this place works very well for any of those occasions. The owners are almost always on-site and attentive to their guests. This place is an absolute sure thing... just go. Faves: chops, steak, burger, salads.

Came for brunch with a girlfriend of mine this morning and really liked it here. Nestled in between The Pantry and a Seven Stars Bakery, it's a quaint little spot. It's on the bottom level of the Rumford Center - a loft/mill apartment complex, which must be a nice plus for residents! I had the eggs Benedict - nice thick slices of ham, well poached eggs and hollandaise balanced it out nicely. My gf had an omelet - wild mushroom, caramelized onions and fontina. I took a bite of her omelet as I was between ordering that or my dish. I loved both - hers slightly more! Both dishes came with home fries, a mix of sweet potatoes and regular potatoes with a bit of onions, which I could've done without. I thought this was a nice change from the typical home fries you usually get at most breakfast spots. Coffee wasn't anything special - tasted like coffee. =) The place itself is a bit narrow but cute and comfy inside. The tables are a bit close to each other, probably to maximize occupancy for such a small space - but the hostess was smart enough to sit people at every other table to allow a bit of privacy. We went when they first opened and tables were already starting to fill up. Parking can get pretty scarce and chances are you will end up parking on the street, unless you get lucky! Our waiter was very nice and our food came out fairly quickly after we ordered. The only thing that took a little while was refills for coffee but other than that, no complaints. I would def love to come back and check them out for lunch or dinner.

This hidden gem is one of the best restaurants RI has to offer. I like to visit a place several time before posting a review so I can gauge their consistency. The first time we visited we were greeted personally by the owners and treated like one of the family, I am pleased to say we have been treated the exact same way every single time. The food is upscale gourmet and impeccable although my favorite menu item is actually a cocktail, the bourbon hayride. I can only describe this drink as wowser! We are slowly going through the menu items and have not found a single item we haven't loved. A quaint little place filled with charm & excellence. Highly recommended!

It was our wedding anniversary and we both had a crazy Friday and were feeling a bit frazzled. We weren't looking for a big, formal production and just wanted a delicious, low-key meal in a nice atmosphere. Avenue N. certainly delivered. We didn't have reservations, so arrived on the early side. The restaurant quickly filled though. Kate, our server was wonderful. She kept offering suggestions, letting us know her favorites and did tell us this was the first night of the new Fall menu. I was sold on the Bourbon Hayride as soon as I saw it listed over the bar. It was worth it. I could easily see myself at the bar on a chilly day sipping a few of these. For my second drink I had a B&B - Bourbon and blackberries. It was good, but I feel it is better suited to warmer temperatures. There were three craft beers on draft and a fair amount of bottles to choose from as well as a thoughtful wine list. It was hard choosing an appetizer and we went with both the corn chowder and the pumpkin-jalapeno quinoa fritters. I didn't get a lot of pumpkin or jalapeno flavor off the fritters, but we enjoyed them. The corn chowder was so rich and smooth, just delicious. For my main dish I went with the scallops which were served with an asparagus risotto and a few shrimp. I practically licked my plate clean. My husband had the salmon, which was served with a lobster farro and collard greens. He also joined the clean plate club. We didn't save room for dessert, but we'll be back again for sure and will try to save room next time. Thanks for an enjoyable anniversary dinner, Avenue N!

What a great little spot! I've been hearing wonderful things about Avenue N for a while, and was thrilled to finally have the chance to go. The small space is airy and bright and very welcoming. We were seated quickly and given waters right away, and while to took a while before our server actually made it over to us, once she did she was very pleasant and helpful. Everything was delicious, fresh and with an unusual spin. The flavors are bright, seasonal and really well-balanced weather you're spooning a fresh corn chowder or slicing into a juicy steak. I thoroughly enjoyed my pasta dish, too -- local Narragansett Creamery ricotta tortellini with fresh peas and an incredibly flavorful yet delicate parmesan broth. It was heavenly. I'm excited to go back -- it's so well-priced and absolutely charming. The one thing I wasn't crazy about were the two large TVs hanging over the bar -- the space isn't quite big enough for such a distraction, and they really take away from the ambience of the place. But other than that, I'm a fan!

Attractive restaurant, but overly ambitious. Ordered just apps and a salad. Artichoke buratta ( I'm guessing from the neighboring bakery) was amazing. Nice field green salad. Brussels sprouts were a nice take. Lamb pierogi left a lot to be desired in the flavor department. In a state where calamari is king, their version left a lot to be desired. A few tasty peppers accompanied a barely breaded, chewy bunch of rings with a tasteless sauce. To top things off, we had called ahead to let them know we were celebrating a birthday. They told us a dessert with a candle would be brought to the table. Imagine our surprise when our plates were cleared and a bill appeared. Telling the waitperson would have spoiled the surprise. The hostess asked us on the way out how everything was. We expressed our disappointment with the dessert debacle. She said she had told our server, but she must have forgotten. A few minutes later she offered a to go dessert, but we declined. Part of the fun is in the surprise. Would I return? Possibly. The pizzas did look good

Located in the Old Rumford Mill, Ave N has become a huge hit. It's busy no matter what time or day I visit. I tend to head straight to the bar and order a manhattan. It's definitely the "get out of work and eat" crowd. My go to is the Burger, although everything I've ordered has been great. Consistent quality and friendly service. Besides dinner this has become a a frequented spot for my weekend brunches. The brunch menu is full of options and I highly recommend the eggs Benedict. Seating is sparse and they only take reservations for 6 or more. This can make it hit or miss for brunch and dinner. The place is too small to wait for a table.

I realize that I need to stop being that person and try places outside of Providence (New Years resolution?) - I made it all the way to East Providence last Sunday and I'm glad I went. Avenue N has a lot going for it; great decor, they take brunch reservations, and they have lemon ricotta donuts on the menu. My mouth is watering just thinking about them. One of the main brunch courses we ordered was a bacon, egg, and cheddar sandwich on an english muffin with the addition of another slice of bread in between the egg and bacon making it that much more delicious and filling. For $6 you can't really go wrong. I had the chance to look over the dinner menu and I definitely wouldn't be opposed to indulging in quite a few of the appetizers. They all looked great! I might make the 10 minute trip back in the very near future.

This place is great! I've been for dinner and breakfast. They have the best burger and fries, great scallops, yummy caesar salad with capers. The pizza the other night wasn't the best. The dough seemed a little tough. But everything else I've had has been spot on. The host was awesome, what a sweetie. He greeted us in such a warm and friendly manner.

Went with a party of 4. Absolutely fantastic food. Service was a bit slow, and they forgot our table when we were sat down, but otherwise a great dining experience. Had the corn dogs and short rib. Both fantastic dishes. Looking forward to the next visit, can't wait to try more of their foods. Very reasonable priced too. ***updated review*** 5/2015 - so I've officially considered this place 5-star. I've dined here many more times and the food is consistently great. In addition, they seem to be the only ones who can make a perfect Tom Collins drink. They have a pizza with Beef Brisket & Collared Greens that's simply amazing. I truly love this restaurant and I can't say enough how reasonable the prices are.

Avenue N is so good that it keeps us from venturing out of Rumford and trying other restaurants. Nick and Tracy have managed to get everything right. The food is exceptional, the service is top-notch and the atmosphere is welcoming and relaxing. Be it an appetizer, pizza, dinner or Sunday brunch, you won't be disappointed.

Avenue N is the quintessential Rhode Island restaurant. It is located in an old mill, where Rumford Baking Powder was once manufactured. It's located in the Rumford neighborhood of East Providence, and it's a real neighborhood gathering spot, especially with Seven Stars Bakery next door. We've been to Avenue N for brunch and dinner and never been disappointed. They feature their own twist on a lot of dishes you will recognize, and I would summarize it as new American, done very well. They feature local ingredients and local beer, and lots of outdoor seating. Last time I had a pizza with bacon and Brussel sprouts, and I made sure to take home the leftovers. Avenue N is well run and the kind of place you would like to be a regular at.

A good restaurant, but still not a great one. What it lacks in ambience, it makes up in friendly neighborhood atmosphere. It's menu is all about comfort food an for the most part very well done (but what is it about some chef's not understanding the destructive power of too much salt?) We enjoyed our meal last night. The service was attentive most of the time except for when we seemed to need it most. Our entrees arrived as our wine glasses stood empty and remained empty for what seemed like an eternity while our refills waited on a over stretched bar tender. This is a neighborhood gathering spot and my sense is that the regulars at the bar are well cared for -perhaps to the detriment of the rest of us. Lighting is unduly harsh, classroom bright. The kitchen is completely exposed to the dining room bringing with it noise and some aromas that are not good, such those of sour milk and cleaning supplies. Still the food is very good. The pork rib sliders are the best I've ever had. My chicken with hen of the forest mushrooms was cooked to perfection. And it came out hot, an essential element of execution that few restaurants are able to manage. My caesar salad was inspired in its elements and construction but dressed a bit watery leaving it less impressive than I had hoped. And my wife's scallops was presented beautifully but almost too salty to eat. We should've sent it back but did not want to make a fuss with friends. A friendly good eats place I'll recommend it and I'm likely to return.

Hello, just got home from our first visit to avenue n, been wanting to try for some time now....glad we did!! First of all, I kinda knew if food is good, and place is small, (which it is), we had little chance of getting in, should make reservations!! But, they accommodated us next door, at the "pantry"....very quiet/cozy. Service (Julie) was great, very personable. The steak and mushroom pizza and pan seared scallops with asparagus risotto were ordered...... To be honest, I'm not a pizza fan...in and of itself so ordinary, but I thought I'd have something for next day, we were to split the scallop dish! But, as I took one bite of that pizza, it was nothing like I've had before, it was extraordinary, to say the least!! The scallops were perfect sea scallops, this is the kind of place where they lack on space, perhaps ambience , but owners/chef clearly makes up for on it on food ingredients , combinations of flavors, presentation, you can see/taste their efforts towards good food......great first impression!! Going back in morning for that lemon ricotta donut!!! The reason for 4 instead of 5 stars was the noise level, and the "pantry" was slightly uncomfortable as far as no backs on our seats....no big deal!

Cute place. Old Rumford baking powder factory. It's quite small, but that's not bad as everything seems to fit. I had the white out to drink and while it wasn't strong it tasted good. Others had bloody marys which were spicy! We started with the doghnuts which were a bit heavy but the sauce was great. Enough for 4 people to share or one person to devour. I then had the raspberry french toast which was great but smaller than all the other entrees everyone else got. Not too sweet, but I'm not sure if anyone adds the butter they give you--that would be a bit much! Everyone loved their food and ate everything. I tried the fries which I thought were under-salted and the bread which I thought was great. Good service, on top of orders, quick, and brings everything in a timely order (but maybe not clears them that way...i.e. half the table, wait 10 min, then the other half).

Easy 5 star. Do it do it. (2 of 3) Good food with good service in neighborhood-comfortable environment. Ambience not too loud but tables were kinda close. That didn't bother most diners who seemed to know each other anyway. Mussel appetizer with grilled Alaskan crab leg very good. Ordered extra dipping bread because sauce was too good to waste. Lasagna was huge and beefy. Plenty to take home. Scallops on risotto was ok but a bit too cheesy. Corn in risotto was nice touch. Pizza with brisket was unbelievable. Plenty left over. Steak was slightly above average; good but not memorable. Needed gristly edge trimmed before cooking. If slightly less pricey this would be a regular when we're in Providence but will save for special treat often.

I am a HUGE fan of Avenue N. What a great brunch spot! Excellent service, awesome atmosphere, and delicious food. We had the blueberry pancakes, the huevos rancheros, the french toast, a fruit plate and the lemon ricotta doughnuts (not to mention bottomless coffee) - everything was perfectly scrumptious. I wish we lived closer because this would quickly become "the spot" to go on Sunday mornings.

I just moved about 5 minutes from this place and it would take a lot for me to go anywhere else to eat now, I just love the food that much. I've also taken family and friends here, some who are quite the hipster foodies, and no one has had anything but great things to say about their meals. My favorite dish on the menu is the humble but hearty and wholesome chicken dumpling soup, made with local root veggies and scrumptious chicken dumplings, served with the cutest little homemade buttery biscuit in the center. It's the most flavorful and comforting soup I've ever eaten... the kind of comfort food that transports you to a special warm place but also doesn't leave you feeling sick or stuffed after you eat it. I love this soup so much that I've ordered it takeout a few times when I've been sick... man, there is nothing better! I've had the roasted beet and heirloom carrot salad a few times now and it always hits the spot, as have the roasted chicken and salmon entrees. I have yet to try the burger but I've heard from my guests that it's absolutely amazing. There really is not an item on the menu that isn't a hit. The pizzas are outstanding - crust is about a medium thickness with a nice chewy flaky texture with a hint of sweetness and the toppings explode with flavor in your mouth. Dishes are perfectly portioned, the cocktails are creative and fully flavorsome, and they have a nice selection of craft brews and wines. I'm a huge fan of their emphasis on fresh and local ingredients, supporting local farms, and the pantry next door is chock full of locally made treats for you to take home, including some really delicious clover honey from an apiary just down the street. They also have a great variety of homemade foods that you can pick up and heat up later on for dinner. I knocked it out of the park with their buffalo wings for the superbowl. Love the fresh flowers that are always on the tables, the place is nicely lit and the feel of dining in this refurbished brick mill is really something neat. Expect to get comfy here and stay a while - make reservations and know that seating is limited. So much care and precision goes into every dish in that kitchen, and I wouldn't want to have it any other way. Staff are all so warm and friendly. I really can't say enough about how much I love this place!

Went to avenue n Mother's Day this past Sunday . We went for the brunch and it was outstanding!!! Had the chorizo and pepper omelet and it was great!! The service was friendly and top notch. And if you go for brunch please order the lemon ricotta donuts with a creme' anglais sauce for dipping. Kind of like the rolls Royce of munchkins . Go, you won't be disappointed !!!!

History nerds that we are, we were as excited to be visiting the historic and renovated Rumford Center as we were excited to finally experience the celebrated cuisine of Avenue N that we have heard so much about. But first, the food -- absolutely exceptional! We began our dinner by sampling the Point Judith Crispy Calamari and the Chick Pea and Green Lentil Fritters -- two perfect beginnings. Each calamari ring was fresh, flawlessly battered and sweet (and perfect for remoulade dipping), while the mysterious fritters offered a smooth, balanced texture and flavor I didn't expect to enjoy as much as I did. As an entree, I devoured an infinitely unique and delicious Brussels Sprout and Cauliflower Pizza featuring thick cheese and several well-placed bacon chunks. (I stand resolved that the world would be a better place if people ate more Brussels Sprouts.) And my wife ordered the Avenue N Burger that she described as, "the best burger I have ever had." High praise, indeed! And as for the history.... well, you probably don't care. But, the old mill was once the home of world-famous Rumford Baking Powder, named after Count Rumford of Woburn, Mass. who was an inventor, womanizer, scientist, hero to England and Germany, and traitor to the American Revolution. The history makes for great reading.Take a book out of the library and enjoy it over dinner at Avenue N.

My wife and I came here for Valentines Day due to numerous recommendations from friends of ours who just love the place. Its small but very very nicely put together with the wood and the high ceilings with the exposed ductwork. The drinks were fantastic. I'm not one to order specialty drinks in most cases but I had heard that the bourbon hayride couldn't be missed. It was pretty darn amazing I must say, not too sweet as I had been afraid of. The sage drink my wife had was almost equally wonderful. The winter sangria was good but not as special. We started with the cabbage bisque and sweet corn soup. I love sweet corn soup or chowder and I was not disappointed. Both were great. Lastly, the entrees were spot on for both of us. My wife had the scallops and I had the duck which was a special. Both dishes and probably the entire menu are right up my ally with that farm to table type of feel to it. Local and seasonal American cuisine....yes please. We are looking forward to our next reservation.

I enjoyed my dinner here! If I were to go back I would stick with just getting appetizers they were the highlight of the meal for me. The standouts to me were the mac and cheese with the corn dog! I could have just gotten that for my meal. I also had the duck sliders which were good but all you could taste was chili. There could have been any type of meat in there and I wouldn't have known the difference. You really couldn't even taste the egg on top of them! For the main course we had the short ribs. My friend loved the cheddar grits that came with it, but to me all I could taste was the green onion no hint of cheddar for me. The short rib itself was excellent it was really tender and pretty much melted in your mouth. For dessert we tried out the homemade banana split sundae. They bruleed the bananas and they were delicious. The waitress made a mention of the homemade hot fudge but they really went light with it, I would have liked quite a bit more. There were also some type of roasted cherry or something along those lines. Overall I would definitely go back, but stick with the appetizers!

Was at Brown for my daughter's graduation when our plans changed at the last minute, so had to cancel reservation at a popular restaurant on College Hill. When we tried to get another reservation, all the go-to places on College Hill and Federal Hill were all booked (graduation weekend), so someone suggested we try Avenue N, which is a few minute drive away. We are so glad we did, and are only sorry that we only discovered this place at graduation! Don't know when we will be back in Providence, but, when we are, we will come back. Food is wonderful and creative and hearty, bountiful portions, fair prices, friendly staff and the clientele is clearly having a great time. They need to work on the ambiance for the outdoor tables, other than that, this place is close to perfect. Highly recommended.

Finally got to Avenue N and can't believe I missed something this good for this long. We had two outstanding soups with biscuits, corn dogs with Mac n' cheese and a margarita pizza. Everything was made from scratch. The Mac n cheese was the best this side of the Mason-Dixon. We were full before starting the pizza and couldn't help having two pieces each before taking the rest home. The pizza had the flavor of a thin crusted but was a unique thick crust with perfect burn marks giving it a unique crunchy- chewy- bite. The Jalepeno tequila/ Canton ginger based drink I had set the stage. Can't wait to go back- wish I lived closer!

Nick Rabar has been one of the Northeast's most talented chefs for years, and Avenue N is his labor of love. Beautiful bar, beautiful outdoor seating section; I just wish the inside was bigger so that I'd always get a table right away. Foodwise, Nick is a master of modern Italian, but the freshness of his ingredients make every dish unique.

This place is a gem. Pure and simple. Far from pretentious, the entire place holds about 20 folks, and you can add an extra 8-10 if you count the bar. The menu is its strength. It's fairly limited with maybe 15-20 offerings, but its varied enough that no one will be disappointed. It also means that each dish is close to perfection, and the chef knows his stuff. Any dish with wild mushrooms (including the wild mushroom pizza) is amazing, and for just pure fun, try the corn dogs with macaroni and cheese. Normally, I'd shy away, but this is the clear exception to the clear rule! And the drinks are 'da bomb'! You really can't go wrong here. the pricing is just a tad over 'moderate' but certainly not what you'd call pricy. Just not cheap either.
