This gorgeous historic building in the College Hill district was originally built in 1863 to be the rectory for St. John's Episcopal Church. There's an award on the wall commending Old Court B&B for the historically sensitive remodel. The rooms are comfortable and the breakfast is satisfying. The proprietors and staff take the time to get to know their guests and make adjustments to ensure the best experience possible. I intend to return to Providence and will stay nowhere else. "Dr. Whipple was a sane, conservative physician of the old school... He lived with one man-servant in a Georgian homestead with knocker and iron-railed steps, balanced eerily on a steep ascent of North Court Street beside the ancient brick court and colony house where his grandfather--a cousin of that celebrated privateersman, Capt. Whipple, who burnt His majesty's schooner Gaspee in 1772--had voted in the legislature on May 4, 1776, for the independence of the Rhode-Island Colony." (H. P. Lovecraft - "The Shunned House") In "Lovecraft's Providence & Adjacent Parts" Henry L. P. Beckworth comments that this building was H. P. Lovecraft's inspiration for the home of Dr. Elihu Whipple in "The Shunned House". Although the geography matches this location, we're missing the knocker and iron-railed steps. He may have pulled those details from down the hill tucked away at 40 N Court Street and considered the remainder here. Visit them both and decide for yourself. The Shunned House itself is a block up Benefit Street at 135.

My husband and I stayed here for his birthday for a special weekend getaway. We both like B&B's however we would not stay here again... We were both delighted by the location, situated in the College Hill neighborhood. Walkability to downtown and restaurants was perfect. Having free, off-street parking was a big plus making driving in for a long weekend worry-free. The exterior of this mid-1800's brick building and the surrounding neighborhood is charming; beautiful center chimney colonials, colonial row houses. We brought our baggage inside and were greeted by a smiling host then met with a stale musty smell. Looking around, the interior was worn (there is a difference between worn and charmingly old). This continued into the guest room (the Chippendale), which was large but has seen better days. The bathroom had the necessities but wasn't an oasis with not a lot of room to put our toiletries. With the windows not in working order, the stuffy room couldn't be aired out. Further evidence of the '70's or '80's was seen in the blinds... 1970's or 1980's that is, with tacky vinyl roller blinds. The breakfast was alright, which in our experience is not normal for a B&B and they should seriously consider putting butter and milk for creamer on each table as you have to get up to get your own from the mini-fridge located next to the buffet....charming. The location is great but other than that it's all downhill from thete! There are a few things that save this B&B from being a total flop and its beyond us how it was rated so well. Considering the price, it is not worth its value. Stay here after they make some renovations.

Just had such a wonderful experience at this B&B. Great location, and fun, eclectic rooms. All come with private bath. However, what made the experience so wonderful was the staff and owner - all so accommodating and friendly. They really went out of their way. The breakfast was great! Even accommodated my gluten free needs, with lots of options. Highly recommend staying here.

I'd never stay in another boring hotel again if I could afford B&Bs like this all the time. We enjoyed our visit at The Old Court so much, we decided to stay an extra night. Our original room, The Stove Room, was not available that night. Management graciously gave us a better room (The Vienna) for the same price. We really appreciated that. The Stove was quite comfortable, and I would've enjoyed my stay even if we spent both nights there. But you get what you pay for, so The Vienna was naturally superior. For one, the air conditioning unit worked better. The king-sized bed was also marvelous. The entire room was lovely and spacious, with a full-sized closet to stow your luggage, a writing desk, and other furniture that wouldn't fit in the smaller Stove Room. In addition to the comfortable accommodations, The Old Court serves a great breakfast spread in their charming dining room. They had coffee, tea, juice, milk, homemade baked goodies, granola, cold cereals... the list goes on and on. The first day, we were served eggs (any way we liked), bacon, and toast. By the second morning, the innkeeper knew we were from Georgia. One of his cooks was from Alabama and made excellent biscuits and gravy for us. Honestly, I can't gush about the place enough. My husband and I both loved Providence, so another trip north is definitely in the cards. Next time we visit, we'll absolutely stay at The Old Court again.

This was such a cozy place walking distance from RISD, Brown and the train station. As well, you can walk easily to Federal Hill although it is a bit farther ?a mile. We arrived in the midst of a snow storm and stayed an extra day due to a flight cancellation. The place felt like a shelter from the storm. It was toasty. There were delicious daily baked goods at the ready- scones, chocolate chip cookies, brownies, banana bread, etc, etc. The staff was friendly and helpful and Max went out of his way to help the guests to include brushing off their snow laden cars. It was wonderful being able to walk around Providence in the snow and there is a very good restaurant across the street called Den Den. For those that don't want to walk, they have on sight parking for rental cars behind the building. I don't go to many B&Bs due to being a light sleeper but the noise level was reasonable. I would definitely stay here again.

This was a decent place to stay in Providence. Located in a quieter section of town. We stayed in the small Stove Room on the main level. Service was very friendly and breakfast was made to order; your choice of eggs (omelette) bacon and fruit. I'd stay here again if they offered a discount.

What really is a B and B? 1. Antique interior(like your Grandma had design taste) 2. Spacious rooms 3. Great breakfast( after all, it is the other "B") 4. Friendly staff B and Bs need all 4 or we all stay at the Hyatt. Old Court has all of the above plus arguably the best location in Providence near RISD. It is a short walk to Downtown and Wickendon BTW, the homemade granola just rocks, as does the fresh fruit and blueberry pancakes Really great place

My husband and I stayed at The Old Court Bed & Breakfast in September, while on a road trip of the NE area. We didn't have a booked room until the afternoon that we were driving into town. I called and a very nice gentleman by the name of Chris picked up and sounded very happy to hear from me and assured me that he would save a room for my husband and I. When we arrived to the B&B, Chris greeted us, made us feel right at home and showed us to our room. Our room was quaint and perfect for our stay. In the morning my husband and I ate a healthy meal with eggs served to order, fresh granola, coffee, scones and jams. It was just perfect. I highly recommend this B&B to the young or old!
