Great staff. Bartenders made my night, pointed me to some good spots (including Harry's which changed my life for ever via a vis hamburgers). You can smoke here, if that's important to you. Good booze selection, also serve food, which I didn't try this time. Made a perfect Manhattan. But mostly the bartenders are great. After the one dude at the bar (I'm sorry - "bah") with a legit RI accent departed, I was left sitting with two d-bags from the Jersey Shore. Fortunately the bartenders are delightful and on top of serving delicious cocktails pointed me toward some other Providence highlights. This place is a winner in my book.

Know this: Tammany Hall is a smoking bar... so everyone in here smokes. If you can't stand smoke, get the hell outta here (which is precisely what I did on one of the two occasions I patronized this establishment). Full disclosure, I was recuperating from pneumonia, so perhaps this wasn't the best choice for my first outing post-illness. That aside, the staff is so lovely, and they have not only an impressive drinks list (heavy on scotch), but an impressive food menu and a great humidor, as well. However, the best thing about this place is the vibe and ambience - it's just a fun place to be. Not too loud, not at all snooty, and not at all touristy which is rare in this neighborhood. If you ask me, this is the perfect place for a night cap once you're past the point of smoke bothering you. Not into whiskey? Have a glass to champagne! The booth and tables are cozy, and I can see parking yourself here all night... Just plan on a long shower afterwards!

Great service, great drinks! Only Irish establishment on the atwells strip! I'm not a smoker but came here early so the wafts of death didn't affect me. Yes Buddy comes here all the time as others pointed out, and yes you can smoke inside. (Ironic that he hangs out at a place name after a corrupt NY govenor's political organization haha) But hey it's atwells! Everyones part of the 'Family'! I checked out their humidor, pretty great deal for smokers, you buy an area and then you can keep your cigars in it. Was at capacity when I was there though! Met Heather our waitress, very fast paced, and seems to know all there is to the area and the staff that runs the different establishments. If I was in the Mob this is who i'd talk to for the whos who of atwells. Will be back to try the reasonable priced food, and will update all my avid readers. (aka myself)

As a smoker, I fully appreciate the ability to drink and smoke at the same time, without needing to head outside for a little congregation. If you don't smoke, I wouldn't come here unless you want to leave a little stinky and with a little lung cancer. When I came here, it was the last stop of a Pubcrawl, so my memory is a little hazy but from what I can remember about the food and drinks is that the hotdog plate I got came loaded with good food, and the drinks were good and stiff. As for the people in the bar.... not a hipster scene. We had a couple drunken housewives curating "happy birthday" about nineteen times during our stop in and the rest of the people inside were on the same wavelength. Didn't bother me though, I'll take happy sloppy 40-something year olds over pretentious hipster Brown kids anyday. Overall it's a comfortable place with a pretty big bar menu and a surprisingly good amount of seating. And you can smoke inside. Did I say you can smoke inside?

If you like the occasional cigar with a nice scotch or six, swing by here. It has a friendly neighborhood hangout feel--for a place on the Hill--lots of TVs and a surprisingly good ventilation system. The attentive, efficient staff are super nice. What might amaze you about this little place is their pub grub. It's good. I've eaten here with friends several times and we're always pleasantly surprised by the quality of the food. On my most recent visit I had an excellent Bacon BBQ Burger, slathered in sauce and served with a good helping of pub fries. For $10. Their humidor is passable; they've been closed for repairs/renovations so their offerings were a little light on our last visit, but for the casual patron they have plenty to choose from. Or bring your own sticks. Not too loud and generally not crowded on week nights. A favorite Buddy hangout and a comfortable place to spend a couple of hours.

Pros: -one waitress was outstanding and fixed a big issue with no fuss. Cons: -Second waitress was terrible and rather rude. **poured Macallan 12 over ice and was pissy when we sent it back. -weak cigar selection -Cigars were very dry (improper conditions)

If you don't mind inhaling large amounts of second-hand smoke, this place is a cute, laid back pub with fairly good bar food (the macaroni and cheese definitely hit the spot). In going here, I had no idea up front that it was in fact a cigar bar, and unfortunately when we got there, I regrettably found my eyes watering, and looked forward to finishing my meal so I could leave. After spending maybe an hour or less here, my clothes stank so badly of smoke that my entire room smelled like smoke when I got home and I had to use a crazy amount of Febreeze and air fresheners to attempt to cover up the odor so I could sleep. I'm sure this place is lots of fun for anyone who is a smoker or is more smoke friendly than I am, but I really would prefer a non-smoking bar. Just personal preference... be aware before you go! :)

Politico crowd Kitchen open 'till midnight Asthmatics steer clear I have mixed feelings about Tammany Hall. It's one of the few places in RI (although one of a many on the hill) that still allows smoking indoors. They have a small selection of cigars in a walk-in humidor, including several varieties of Acids, which are always a favorite. However it can be hard to get a drink as the evening wears on, and there's the omnipresent smoke smell to deal with. There's an older crowd in the evenings, mostly folks who used to hit the clubs but now just prefer to make passes at young women avoiding the club scene altogether. If you want to do some light people watching, it's a great place for that as well. Buddy Cianci is a frequent diner (read: drinker), look for him on weekends. On the menu, there's a lot of great bar food, mostly in huge portions. The fish and chips comes with two huge haddock filets, almost rendering the fries on the side a moot point. The macaroni and cheese is fantastic, and the only problem is there isn't enough of it. The fries aren't that great, a bit soggy and definitely lacking salt. As far as drinks, there's a huge selection of vodka, but mixed drinks with anything else come up a bit short. I'm partial to an old-fashioned and the ones here end up with a pile of sugar on the bottom. Of course, there's a huge downside here. Despite several smokeaters on the ceiling, the place is always bathed in a pea-soup fog of cigarette and cigar smoke. It's okay if you're enjoying a nice maduro yourself, but if you just want to grab some food, get there earlier in the evening or else you'll be washing the smoke out of your hair, clothes etc.

The main reason to go to Tammany is to smoke cigars. The food is good, the drinks okay, but if you're not a smoker you're going to be complaining about the clouds of smoke the entire time. Tammany is a nice change of pace from the normal two choices one has in Greater Providence: Hipster Bar or Family Restaurant. The population is generally older professionals - guys in their 40s and 50s without a black hoodie or skinny jean anywhere in sight. The walk-in humidor is well stocked, with most cigars running around $7-10. Cigarette smoking is also allowed. The food is good, although pricey for the amount you tend to get. I'm a little disappointed they don't have Narragansett on tap, but they carry beers that Americans like to drink to feel Irish (Guiness, Harp, etc). The service is absolutely awful. It's like pulling teeth to get a waitress to take your drink order, and god forbid you want to order a drink and food at the same time. The place tends to get crowded even on weeknights, and a big part of the problem seems to be that they are understaffed. A full-time bartender would allow the waitresses to concentrate on table service. Instead, waitresses are doing double-duty which makes everything take forever. The service is bad enough that my guess is once its warm enough to smoke outside and people have other options, you'll see the place clear out quite a bit. Still, in the winter if you're looking to have a cigar and you don't want to stink up your living room, Tammany's your best bet.

A good place to enjoy a cigar with friends. Beer selection us pretty good and the wait staff keeps them coming. I like that the tabs are still on the honor system and you do not need to give them a cc to keep a tab open. This is a good place to spend a couple of hours in Federal Hill.

This is one of my favorite places of all time. At Tammany Hall you can smoke, drink, and eat all at the same time. I appreciate that as a cigar smoker myself. I come in mostly for lunches and for business meetings. The staff is friendly and remembers your name and often your drink. The food is fantastic pub food with healthy portions. It is a very busy place. If you don't like the smoking atmosphere...I would recommend somewhere else. The patrons of Tammany appreciate that this establishment can exist and bask in it. Classy, clean, and masculine. Tv's are strategically placed and you can bring your own smokes or buy them there. The selection is limited. Many afternoons have been enjoyed there and there will be many more to follow.

Tammany Hall is a great little cigar lounge and pub far down on Atwells Ave. It is relatively dark inside, with bar stools, two center islands, a couch seating area, some small tables, and some booths. The prices are exactly what you would expect to pay at a normal bar, but you can smoke inside! The food is delicious (try the burgers or the nachos) and the beer selection is decent. They always have Guinness and Smithwicks on tap, and usually have Wachusett Blueberry (have them make a "black and blue"), in addition to something domestic and plenty of bottled varieties ( Sam's, Boddington, etc.). Sure, there are plenty of restaurants and classy bars on Atwells but Tammany is small and more personal, with a friendly staff.
