Best authentic mexican food in RI that I've come across. I've been going here my whole life. Their chips are the best ever, and their gorditas are to die for. My only complaint is that their prices keep going up (this used to be a cheap place to eat) and the portion sizes keep decreasing (they are like mini tacos and gorditas to what they used to be). That's really a bummer, and I don't go there as much as a result of this now. But it's still the best authentic mexican food around.

This place is pretty standard compared to other Mexican restaurants in the area, but nothing special. I can think of multiple other places where the Mexican food is more flavorful, but it's convenient for me and good enough for an occasional return visit. I'd recommend the a la carte items (tacos, tostadas, etc.) over the entrees for the bigger bang for the buck.

I have coming to Mexico restaurant for 20 years. I travelled all over the country looking to try Mexican cuisine. I even lived in Southern California and tried every Mexican place north of the border. This is still my favorite Mexican restaurant. You have to taste the chips &beans, cheeses quesadillas (addictive -not like anything you have ever tasted before) and the chili rellenos. Enjoy!

One of the best Mexican restaurant around! It's been a few years but still the same. Don't mess with perfection! And now they take credit cards too...

My family has been coming here for as long as I can remember. My parents started coming here years and years ago, back when it was the only good authentic Mexican restaurant in RI. We always start with the Chips Rancheros, and they are amazing. I usually stick with the chicken burrito (which is huge and very tasty), although sometimes I branch out.

More like Mexico Garibaldelicious!! Am I Right!!! Whatever you're doing right now, I can guarantee it's not as good as eating their excellent salsas! This place is cheap and good, and is everything you could every want in a neighborhood Mexican place. Try it out.

I came here with a group of friends last week - I picked this place based on raving reviews I read on yelp. Unfortunately there was nothing good about our meal. Chips tasted like they had been sitting out for days, guacamole pictured would have cost $5 extra, tacos and just about every dish we tried were bland and not tasty. And the food did not sit well in the stomach for a couple of us through the following day :( Not to mention this place is in a rough neighborhood and service was painfully slow. We will never be back.

I honestly love this place so much. If I don't want to head to VIVA I just visit this location. Always grab the red tamales with avocado and beans on the side. Yummy food, great service. Tacos are perfect!

Prices are very reasonable, but the inside is a bit dated, but by the look of it, this place focuses the more important things, the food. We ordered the chips with guacamole which were fresh made and came on top of refried beans. the gauc was fantastic, the chips fresh, and the salsas nice and spicy but bold with flavor. I had the flautas which left a little to be desired, needed more seasoning. the misses had the gorditas, which were tasty, but still not full of flavor as you expect from authentic Mexican. overall enjoyable an enjoyable visit.

I only ever get one thing here....pork tamales, which I slather w/salsa verde. Oh my how I love them!

I had made plans with a couple of cousins to head up to Providence for some authentic Mexican food, tacos specifically. We were actually headed to a different spot, which in our rush to make the plan - none of us bothered to take notice that they were closed on the day we had chosen. After a brief discussion as to where we should end up for this affair - we settled on Mexico Garibaldi since it's one cousin's hands down favorite. We each had a Michelada or two - which were perfectly spiced, refreshing and what goes best with tacos. We also ordered chips to munch on while waiting for our dinner. The chips were hardy, and from what I could tell - made fresh in the kitchen. They had a thin layer of refried beans near the bottom and also came with two excellent salsas. I happily ordered more than I should have as I had been waiting for this taco journey for a few weeks. My taco order consisted of pastor (seasoned shredded pork), Carne Asada, Barbacoa (shredded goat), and Carnitas. Each was fantastically flavored, savory Mexican deliciousness. Mexico Garibaldi was an outstanding nite out with family, and the tacos were as good as any I've had in LA, San Diego or Baja California. I'll certainly be back for more.

I have been going to Mexico Garibaldi since 2009 and I can confidently report that I love this place! It's a great deal: plenty of good food, good drinks and Telemundo in the background. What more can you ask for? My favorite items are the barbacoa de chivo, gorditas, huarache, tamales. Oh, the tamales! Soft, flavorful and filled with well-seasoned meat, you get three for $6. Just writing about them makes me eager to return! I have heard wonderful reports about their mole from dinner companions and my girlfriend smiles each time she takes her first bite of her tacos or enchiladas. I normally don't get alcohol at Mexico, but they have some things to choose from. Of course you shall find tequila if that is what you are in the mood for. I just stick with my horchata and water. It is a great place with amazing food and friendly waitstaff. You should definitely visit!

After hearing rave reviews from two of my most trusted food-loving friends, I was so excited to finally try Garibaldi. Sadly, my evening there was much of a disappointment, and I can't even bear the thought of returning. Firstly, the waitress insulted one of us right off the bat - a very personal, inappropriate question that should never be asked by anyone, ever. That preeeeeety much set the tone. Then, when we finally got our order it was all over the place and took for-EVER. Ever. Ever. And the food.... Maybe it was an off night, but I was nowhere close to making sweet, sweet music with those flautas. The lights were turned off before we were done with our meal, and we weren't even asked if we wanted flan (which we did). When my friends said they wanted the remainder of their food to go, the server actually asked (eh-hem,) "Can I bring you the box for you to do it yourself, or do you want me to do it?" I'm sorry, what? Who trained this person? The final kicker: It wasn't even that cheap. Like, at all. I probably could have paid the same amount for a mind-blowingly amazing meal at Loie Fuller or Broadway Bistro - seriously. Again, perhaps it was an off night, but it was off enough for me to never return. The two stars? That's one for the margarita and one for the Nachos Ranchers. Done.

The most authentic Mexican restaurant I have ever been to! Delicious & reasonably priced. Their whole menu is worth trying but I highly recommend their loaded chips, burritos and carne asada. The service is also always superb!

The real deal. That's what Mexico Garibaldi is. As a Mexican living in the US, it's often very hard to find good cheap tacos in the United States as most of the places around are honestly overpriced or just plain bad, or both. Mexico Garibaldi is neither of those, it's cheap and has very good food. If you are looking to have a good margarita, awesome tacos or some other typical Mexican dishes, this is the place to go. I often go there with my girlfriend and we literally eat until we're about to explode for around 25 bucks plus tips. Aside from the drinks and the food their agua fresca is amazing as well, sweet and flavorful just the way it should be. Finally I like it that they take credit cards, and you can go with all your family there if you wish as the environment is good and healthy to even have kids around there. However, be ready to hear some loud -but not annoying- pieces of Mexican music from time to time in there (this doesn't happen very often in there though so most of the time is really quiet enjoyable).

Simple, delicious, quick, and cheap. Went on lunch break and timing was not an issue. Got the quesadillas with rice, and then added some of the homemade salsas, which are to die for. Potatoes and veggies with cheeses offer fresh-tasting, filling alternatives to ordering meat. Great authentic Mexican food!

My family and I have been coming here for over fifteen years. My first experiences as teen eating authentic Mexican food was at Mexico Garibaldi. Even though I was quite the fussy eater as a teen (boy has that changed), I still tagged along with my parents every time they came here. Today I appreciate this hidden gem so much more! The chips rancheros are amazing, covered in cotija cheese. Order a side of guacamole to go with it. The salsa is the real star here, they have 2 - a verde and a tomato based one. They are spicy, but we literally go through bowl fulls whenever we come. I always order the barbacoa tacos and tostada. The meat is tender, spicy and just so fall of the bone rich. The chile relleno and carne asada is also fantastic. They recently opened a newer location downtown, but I am still partial to the authentic feel of this place. Don't miss this restaurant if you are a true authentic Mexican food lover.

Simple, delicious, and inexpensive. Really friendly staff too. I like that you can order a la carte, and don't have to commit to just one type of dish.

Really good mexican food here. We enjoyed every bit of it. Friend of mine recommended it so we figured we would try it and we were not disappointed. Alittle small and cramped but that was kind of a nice part of the ambiance.

This place is a real gem: It's small but quant; humble furnishings but very clean; and the staff is outstanding. Now for the real deal...the food: It is great. I can't say that this place is an "authentic" Mexican place because it's known for having latin fusion but the food is pretty classic Mexican/American, with a bent to the Mexican side. I'm not crazy about genuintely authentic Mexican food because I have Mexican/ American tastes, hey that's what I know...also I just don't like authentic Mexican food. This is a great balance. The food is fresh, the tortillas and chips are perfectly made, salsa is wonderful, and the prices are just right as are the portions (the words "cheap meal" comes to mind). What I really liked about the joint besides the solid good food was the ambience of the little place. Yep, it's small but it's really kind of cozy and the itty bitty bar they have has all the right Mexican beers (perfect small selection) and all the equally comparable tequilas. This is a place you duck into on a rainy or snowy night with your date or some friends when you want to chill, have some good food, knock back a few shots, or have a few beers, and genuintely relax and enjoy yourself. Ahh, I wish was there right now. I love little places like this!!!! It's on a main street, Atwells, but the traffic is fine and there's street parking, so no problem. Cut it out! Stop reading and go get your Mex on!

Despite the name, this is a very traditional small Madre and Padre type Mexican restaurant you would find in LA or San Francisco. The food and service were great. The menu is surprisingly large including lingua and cow feet tacos. The cocktails - Margaritas, of course - were ok, not great. The prices are amazingly low. The neighborhood may be a little off-putting but don't let that dissuade you. It's worth the trip.

Great Mexican food. I wasn't feeling too crazy, so my sister and I split quesadillas and flautas. We also got some yummy guacamole with chips. Our server was friendly and the atmosphere was great. The margaritas weren't the best that i've ever had, but they were great. I would definitely recommend this restaurant the next time that you are craving some authentic Mexican!

There aren't a lot of places in Providence with authentic Mexican food but this place comes the closest to the real thing. It's affordable, the flavors are great and the servers are very nice. Great items to try: Carne Asada Burrito and the Enchiladas de Mole.

I have to admit, we actually did not eat at this restaurant. The neighborhood was too sketchy to even get out of our car. The area is poorly lit, and appeared to have gang-type individuals and homeless people. Most all the buildings on the street had iron bars on the windows. Not a safe place to park your car.

Seriously good, seriously cheap. I eat here all the time and it is always great. There is nothing bad about the place, the food, or the prices.

I love this restaurant. Recently I've had a hankering for Senore Garibaldi's food. I don't need it but I want it! Not a big meat eater. I usually go for anything with beans & veggies. I love their chips & the red & green sauces. They never give you enough napkins though!!

My favorite Mexican restaurant in Providence. The food is authentic, cheap, and delicious. It feels like you're at someone's house and their Mexican mom is cooking for you. Definitely good eats. The only downside is that they do not accept credit cards.

Great chips with a layer of refried beans below. Great burritos--get it with potatoes. As a vegetarian I was a little wary at the sight of all the tongues and stuff on the menu, but they do come through for me.

Nice sit down place. Very comfortable. Cheap beer and tequila shots. Chelata? (squeezed lime and your choice of beer with a salt rimmed mug for $4.50). Got the tacos, more like taquitos but still very good. Try it.

In the mood for some good Mexican food? Go to Mexico! Don't have the time or money for a trip to the real thing thencheck out Mexico the restaurant. It is well worth the trip down WAY dow Atwells to find Mexico. The Burritos are huge and delish, a little to much lettuce for my taste but still really good. This is one of the most authentic places in Providence, it has the right amount of everything. Super cheap to boot with good service.

Mexico, I love you more and more with each visit. I get cravings for you like NONE OTHER and your waitresses are the sweetest anywhere. Yes, your tables wobble, your napkins are thin, you blast Univision game shows over my head, your sweet waitresses don't always clear the tables at the end of the meal, but you know what... your food rocks my world, I accept you as you are, and I LOVE YOU! Can I just add... homemade tamarindo, homemade horchata, homemade flan.

We absolutely love this restaurant. A friend tuned me in just over a year ago and now we eat here often. When you have a craving for Mexican food, come on over to Mexico. Have to be honest and say that I've eaten mostly the breakfast dishes or burritos with just beans and vegetables, but it's worth a visit. Oh and the best part is that they are willing to make the breakfast dishes all the time, no matter what time of day. Closed Mondays, so you must get your fix the other 6 days of the week. Highly recommend the salsa verde (we like it better than the other) and chips (served on a plate with beans so they don't slide off?) and guac. YUM!

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
