My very favorite aspect of this bakery: the constant presence of jazz soothing my eardrums... #jazzmusician L'Artisan is not cheap. Nor is it expensive, but don't expect any bargains here. That being said, I can't say enough positive things about the selection of food and drink. They have beer, for crying out loud... What other bakery does that? Huge fan of their chai, and all their espresso drinks. Can't go wrong with any of their sandwiches (it's been a while, but I think they have a sandwich with brie that's heavenly). Also remember a lox and capers dish which was delicious. Really enjoy their baked goods as well. On a nice day, nothing beats sitting outside, sipping on some coffee, with a tasty edible in hand, enjoying the Wayland Square atmosphere.

This is currently my go-to when I want to get out of my home office to work. It is also my go-to if I'm on my own for dinner and want to go somewhere comfortable and can also have a glass of wine...while perusing a magazine or my iPad. But really, I love it for work. They always have eclectic music on, be it an Italian string harmony or blues music. And it seems a lot of intellects and professionals come in during the day, so the conversation is either a) easy to "block-out" because it's not annoying or loud or b) really interesting and I end up learning something! One of my favorite things here is the buffalo chicken savory pie. It's a lovely treat to accompany a salad. They have a great "to go section" and is the perfect lunch or take-away place. Great for breakfast or dessert too. This is all not to mention they serve lovely coffee drinks, have a huge variety of teas and then of course the wine and a few beers. One evening while I was there a couple came in, it seemed post-dinner from an "early in the process date" and had dessert and wine and I couldn't help but give the decision-maker in that props (in my head)! Great idea. I love the décor and atmosphere. As you can see, there is not a single thing wrong with this place in my book!

Great place for weekend breakfasts in the summer. outdoor seating. Perfect coffee. Nice staff. Cozy interior too.

I stopped here this morning with my brother for a cup of cappuccino. It was about noon and all the inside tables were taken but it was just warm enough for us to sit outside on the patio. The friendly service, the taste and price for my drink and the selection of sandwiches and pastries was quite nice. They even had some Turkish candy that I have seldom seen outside of New York City. I was also impressed that they offer an interesting selection of Lebanese as well as American and French inspired pastries. I'll be back next visit to R.I.

Love this bakery. Amazing soup!
(5)Ayed A.
Updated to include the fact that the internet here is non-functional. You can experience better elsewhere. Also, pastries are stale, not very fresh. The coffee is decent.

Such a great alternative to the chaos over at Starbucks! Lots of tasty treats to chose from, both sweet and savory. I ultimately ordered the lox, cream cheese and capers on ciabatta. Right amount for me and left me satiated until lunch time. Also, L'Artisan serves Illy coffee! So delicious. Seriously, why didn't I wander down from Starbucks on Angell sooner? Overall, very pleasant and friendly service. I'm looking forward to one of the special coffee drinks next time!

What a great little cafe! I had a fantastic blueberry muffin (there were 6 or 7 other kinds to choose from) and a perfect cappuccino. Pastries, salads, and sandwiches looked simple and scrumptious. I live in NYC, but if a place like this were near me I'd be here all the time...
(4)Melanie H.
I love this place. Their coffee is absolutely great, pastries and other desserts are always fresh and delicious, tons of paninis and prepared foods for a light lunch or snack--and it is surprisingly well priced for the great quality. Also, the ambience is great. Perfect little cafe to meet a friend for coffee, catch up on work, or sit in the outdoor patio and people watch as the east side goes about its daily business. Check it out and I highly suggest grabbing something sweet while you're there--because it is all delicious!

Why has it taken so long to get a place this good in Wayland square. I have spent 2 Saturdays sitting outside with my dog enjoying the day. They even had a band one day that covered Beatles music. Good food but I wish the service was table side and more attentive. The fact that you have to go inside to order is a little annoying. The food is delicious, I have had the falafel, mediterranean plate, and the baklava, all were fresh and tasty. I find the prices high but were else can you sit outside with your dog in Wayland square?

When L'Artisan first opened up and put out a few lunch items, I didn't pay much attention. "Meh, another coffee shop trying to branch out into the lunch business. Snooze." Not so with L'Artisan! I've eaten there more times than I can remember now, and I have never been let down. You simply have got to try their specialty salads. My current fave is the mixed greens, strawberry, bleu cheese and walnut with balsamic vinaigrette. It's so good I have recreated it several times at home, but still prefer to go to L'Artisan for the original. What will I go back to L'Artisan for next? Their cheese plate special: 2 glasses of wine and a cheese plate for $20. Who wouldn't?

Closest thing I've seen to the sidewalk cafes throughout continental Europe: simple pre-made sandwiches (and wraps, salads, and soups - this is the US after all), smooth coffee and expresso, and wine. Yes, a cafe that serves wine. The service was friendly, counter and seating clean, and outdoor tables - perfect! Sort of upset that I don't work in Wayland Square anymore because this would be my daily cup o'joe as well as my unwind after work with a glass of wine spot. Just lovely.
(4)David R.
Supurb neighborhood walk to restaurant! Lunch, breakfast pastries, beverages. Deserts are fabulous! Many patrons stop as they drive through Wayland Square! Always and predictably great quality.
(5)Eugenia Z.
I used to find the food so great here, and loved sitting inside for hours while doing work on my laptop, but the past two times I've gone, I've found mold on their food. Two times in a row. Gross. Step it up, L'Artisan, and I'll consider raising my review to the level it should be at, but I'll do that after you check over your food storage policies.
(3)Ronaldo T.
Food is nothing mind blowing, just regular paninis and cold dishes (chiken salad, etc).. Their coffee drinks are illy, not bad, but nothing extraordinary again. The inside of the café is very nice, warm and elegant, but the real price winner is their patio. Perfect to catch up with friends or do some quiet work. The owners/employees take great care of their garden, and it shows. Edit: okay, I liked the patio so much I came a lot more. Their food is actually better than what I said earlier. Breakfast menu early, freshly baked pastries, and alcoholic drinks like beer to chill. They can have my 5 stars.
(5)Jenny C.
Not a huge fan even though I wanted to be. From the outset, the place looks awesome. The wall of food and window display are impressive: tons of wraps and sandwiches and salads to choose from, as well as delicious-looking desserts and bakery items. But I don't think it delivers the homemade, fresh quality I'm looking for. I ordered a hot chocolate (surprise surprise), but before I could even ask if they have almond or soy milk, I saw they'd already poured whole milk into the canister and were steaming it...and I didn't want to say anything because it's not life or death, but it was disappointing. (if you're lactose intolerant, however, be sure to clearly state your option before ordering) On the plus side, they are efficient at producing orders. As for food, earlier that day I'd been craving a croissant, but nothing lived up to the Seven Stars variety, so I went with something that looked like a cinnamon..."What is this?" I asked the guy behind the counter. He smiled and said, "Cinnamon," but he seemed confused, which confused me, so I ordered it without further clarification. (It turns out it was a coffee cake.) They warmed it in the microwave, which I thought was nice, but that didn't mask the fact that it tasted stale, or something akin to what airplanes give out at cruising altitude. The barista did a nice job with my friend's latte art, but the drinks were just okay. Overall, it's fine if you're in the area, but with all the excellent coffee shop options in Providence, I wouldn't make it my top choice.
(2)Christina V.
This is a great little place to enjoy a panini and the outdoor seating. It's situated in a perfect spot for a breezy afternoon lunch. I was not a huge fan of their espresso drinks. It was overpriced and didn't taste great. My sandwich was good, but it's all premade in the case which did make me wonder when it was actually made.
(3)Gerald N.
Just had their coffee here and it was average. It's the same price as starbucks for a hot coffee and tasted about the same to me. There is plenty of seating for eating though and they have an outside area as well for nice days. The dessert selection wasn't bad. I'd estimate about 15 different desserts, most of which looked good and varied from chocolate cake to cookies to fruit tart (looked old). My party bought some wraps and they said it tasted ok. Workers were friendly. Overall, I'd try some place else for lunch.
(3)Kris D.
Plenty of outside seating! I have visited a couple of times in the past week. The service is friendly & quick. I tried the cold bean salad & a chai on my first trip, both a hit, sat inside. I took a Cranberry turkey sandwich to travel for my daughter, be warned it has mayo.. I forgot to ask. People watching, sunshine & another yummy chai with a grilled falafel wrap happened for today's lunch. I liked the bean salad more. The choices from salads.. wraps & delicious sweets will keep me happy and coming back. I am reminded of a cafe in NYC every time I am inside, which cafe, the name escapes me. I took a half dozen muffins to travel for the family, the red velvet muffin had me at "hello" lol
(5)Natalie M.
My family and I had a delicious breakfast here during our short visit. The coffee is very tasty and the breakfast croissants with egg are excellent as well! Very friendly and efficient staff, quick service! They have a very wide selection of pastries and the ambiance is very nice and cozy.
(5)Toby H.
It really says something about a coffee shop when most of its compliments are about the outdoor patio and the fact they serve wine. In my case, I will speak to the coffee ... I believe the brew they serve is still allowed to be called coffee despite the very weak flavor. I tried adding espresso shots but that just made it bitter. So in review; as a patio bar this is the place to be but if you a looking for a good brew, keep on walking, seven stars is a nice walk.
(3)Marie C.
This place is just awesome. Open tables, lively energy, amazing food and great coffee. I had been looking around providence for a perfect place to hang out and study for a few hours and I have finally found it! ( I also found a a comfy chair in the corner that is ideal.) They have an amazing food selection, very impressive. Staff is also very nice and friendly. One of the best cafés I've ever been too! .... And I can't wait to come back for their 6-9pm special- cappuccino and dessert $5.99 :)
(5)D M.
This cafe is around the corner so I've stopped in a few times. It's ok, but that's about all that can be said. The food is okay the coffee is okay, the atmosphere almost bumps it up another star because the outside patio is great in the summer and I can bring my pup with me. It's a nice cafe, but nothing screams to me "come back". All in all a Decent stop for coffee with a little bit of an overpriced menu (I get that it's wayland square, but not all of us make a lo5 of money...) and a slightly pretentious feel. I'd go back but I wouldn't rave about it.
(2)Brandon C.
I'm a frequent customer and have always enjoyed the atmosphere of this cafe. There are two other shops competing with this store - Teas and Java's and Starbucks. However, this one is my preferred choice. The hours are convenient, the tables are large enough to productively do work, the music is good, and the coffee is fine. I can't comment on the quality of the food, however, my impression is that it's a bit expensive. If you're looking for good drinks and a relaxing atmosphere, this is a great spot to visit. Especially for he large outside patio!
(4)Jamey B.
The service was really weird. It was 10am on a Sunday and the staff seemed to be bickering. A guy making a latte looked at me waiting at the cashier, looks towards the back room and goes "well I guess I am by myself". He then proceeds to go back to making a latte. A person who had been clearing dishes comes out of the back and he mildly accosts her "how many people are back there" her: "I'm supposed to be clearing." She then manages a smile, I order an iced tea. She overfills a cup with ice and I have to ask her to dump about half of it. She then asks me where the iced tea is when I "normally come there" while standing in front of a large brewing machine labeled "iced tea." I explained I don't normally go there (and am unlikely to now) and pointed to the large "iced tea" sign. The pastry was also a little stale. Disappointing. Too bad they have the monopoly on outdoor table space.
(2)Kristina F.
I stopped by between appointments to pick up lunch and something light to have for dinner. I had an amazing mochaccino on ice, the paysan bread with baba ghanoush was delicious, as well as the bean salad, zatar pie, and turkey cranberry sandwich. My fiancé loved the bread pudding, octopus salad, and beet salad. I will definitely be back! Thank you!
(5)Olivia P.
Wraps are super fresh and cold. Medjool dates are always there as a sweet snack. Nice staff. Great ambiance. Good espressos and teas.
(5)Sydney K.
Awesome variety of sandwiches and sweet treats. The staff is always awesome. You'll usually find student or teachers writing or grading papers. If you go around lunchtime, there may not be many tables, but if it's nice out, sit outside!
(5)Catharine R.
I have to agree with the other reviewers -- the best thing about this cafe is the outdoor seating. But, since I'm always looking for nice coffee shops to work from, I thought that I'd add a review from that perspective. The tables are comfortable enough, the coffee is okay, the bathroom situation is weird (it's down in the basement and you have to walk through the kitchen, down some steep steps, and pass through some storage shelves), things are a bit pricey, and although they have free wi-fi, it's not great. In fact, the last time I went in there to work, their internet was down, I had to ask them to restart the router (which they never told me they did ... I just kept trying until I got on), and then once it was up, is was super slow. Ultimately, though, it didn't matter since it fell offline again in a few minutes. I ended up having to transfer my coffee to a to-go cup and head back to the office. The staff wasn't particularly helpful, friendly, or knowledgeable, and I left feeling fairly annoyed. It's too bad, though ... the space has great potential.
(2)Chintan M.
Very nice place to get a cope of tea or coffee. Also, nice place to hangout or to do work. Good food and very nice service.
(4)Altena L.
This is my favorite place for cappuccinos and lattes! I've been to a couple of other ones but this is still my favorite! They have a nice variety of lunches to pick up and salads. They have a variety of desserts too! The place has outside and inside seating areas. They use illy coffee which is amazing! The service is great and professional and it's always nice to see reeat customers talking to the staff! The will put a nice design in your coffee as well! They always do it with ease! I have had some of their paninis with soup and it's always a good lunch! Great location in Wayland square!
(5)Susan D.
We were looking for somewhere to go to with outdoor seating, this was perfect! Plenty of chairs and tables. They are pet friendly, a few others had brought their four-legged children. The one thing we thought we would get or expected was outdoor table service. We had to go indoors to order.
(4)Mujun Z.
I go there almost three times a week, getting a sandwich or a white hot chocolate. Their carrot cake is also good.
(5)Bianca B.
Pros: trendy decor, noise is minimal, snug indoor/outdoor seating, fresh pressed juices, illy coffee, international goods, and located in the heart of Wayland sq. Cons: EXTREMELY OVERPRICED, sandwiches are not made fresh, frozen desserts/baked goods, waterlogged fruit, droopy veggies, restrooms are hidden and hard to access, service was not prompt...and my beloved Fiji water $5 smh... This place is mediocre at best.
(4)Leah C.
I'm not going to lie and say that the last time I was here I had tiramisu and a coffee for breakfast. It was Sunday, so give me a break. Also- I am probably going to get in trouble for saying this but the tiramisu here is better than my nonna's ever was. They also had this lemon pignoli tart one time a few weeks ago. Oh god it was good. The coffee & espresso here is also fantastic. I feel like you could get a coffee and sit here for hours and chat with a friend, or read, and they would pay you no mind. Also there is frequently a group of tan grandpa lookin' dudes hanging out all at one table. Any time there are old dudes who are not speaking english loafing at a cafe, its usually a good sign that it is a good place. All other Wayland Square coffee shops pale in comparison to L'artisan!
(5)Alex A.
It was just okay... This is definitely a great spot for a cafe and I really wanted to like it. The outdoor and indoor seating is spacious, relaxed, and comfortable. They have some nice looking European/Middle Eastern groceries but not as many and probably not as cheap as other places in the city. I got a prosciutto, tomato, mozzarella, and pesto panini and a cup of lobster bisque and a small bottle of Pellegrino. Everything was just okay, which would be fine if it wasn't so expensive. The sandwich had lettuce on it, which it didn't really need and there wasn't a lot of prosciutto. The soup was fine: not stellar but not awful. The service was friendly enough. Maybe the coffee and pastries are better, though it doesn't look like they make the pastries. I wouldn't go back. There are better and more affordable places in this city/state.
(2)Prayank T.
Really nice place to hang around with friends with healthy food..I like vegetable sandwiches..which are always fresh to eat.
(5)Eric S.
Great healthy and unique food selection. Great hang out spot. Wifi! Friendly, helpful, kind people running the place. My kind of cafe/bakery. Had the couscous salad, quinoa salad, carrot ginger soup, turkey panini, chocolate chip peanut butter cookie. (On separate occasions of course) all of it was delicious!
(4)Amanda S.
Seems that I went on a tour of PVD Cafes today, but boy am I glad that we stopped in at L'Artisan. It was a cold and rainy afternoon, and we wanted to get something to warm up. I was super excited that they brew Illy coffee, but after seeing my sister's handcrafted hot chocolate, I caved and ordered a dark chocolate as well. It came out really quickly and had art foam on top (score!). But what was my absolute favorite was that it was at the perfect temperature. Not too hot, and not too cold, perfect to drink as soon as the barista handed it to me. We took our drinks to-go, but the inside of the cafe looked super welcoming and it seems like they have a large patio area that overlooks Wayland Square. They had a rather large pastry was filled with tempting treats and what looked to be some promising options for lunch. Looking forward to going back and testing it out for lunch.
(4)Rebecca B.
Best coffee in town hands down and the staff is fantastic! My husband and I are there at least 4 times a week for breakfast and or lunch. By far the best corn muffins around and the rest of the pastries are equally as yummy! You can't go wrong with anything you order there!
(5)Katalyst S.
My favorite cafe in Wayland Square. The service is always accommodating, the food is always delicious, the music is always good, there are almost always tables available both outside and in, and the coffee they serve is always good. They do have one of those illy machines so it may have something to do with that but I honestly have no idea. Best thing about this cafe is the outdoor seating. They have a large area where you can get some sun. Either way, if you're in Wayland and looking for something quick, fresh, and delicious to eat or drink this is a great place to stop.
(4)Chris K.
This is my go-to cafe on the east side. Reliably good coffee and snacks. Great service. Can usually find an open table, even one with an outlet if the need arises. My only complaints are: the door is always opening and closing so it can get really cold inside, the bathroom is in the basement, which is awkward and slightly dangerous navigating those stairs, and the wifi usually runs at a snails pace. Otherwise a nice pleasant place for a coffee, sandwich, or afternoon studying.
(4)Mike S.
We have been there several times and we really like the place. Two things we look for in a restaurant is a good cup of coffee and consistency-- Artisan brings both. The staff has always been friendly and the coffee is killer. Even though the sandwiches are not made to order they are good-- love that cranberry bread. The out door area is very cool-- I like to watch all the politically correct people with their lap tops and I pads going to town as they graze on those awesome deserts.
(4)Steph D.
Went for quick breakfast with a friend. The food was fresh and the coffee and tea were good. My only complaint was their menu board. It was very difficult to read and because I had never been there before I didn't quite know what they had to offer. That being said it is a very cozy cool place to meet up with friends.
(4)Matt M.
I literally stumbled across L'Artisan when I was between meetings and looking for a place to grab something light to eat and get some work done. In all honesty, I was heading to the Starbucks in Wayland Square, but couldn't find parking in their lot...so I parked right across the street from this place and thought to myself "cool...outdoor seating and what looks like a locally-owned business". In short, I'm really glad the parking situation worked out as it did and I found L'Artisan. The food was good (actually, the spinach and red onion turnover I had was five star-worthy....the falafel wrap I had an hour later (I was there a while...) not so much) and the service was first-rate. Unlike some other coffee houses/bakeries I've been in lately (okay...I'm speaking specifically about Mariposa in Central Square in Cambridge) the staff was helpful and soliticous and actually acted as if they cared about their customer. The interior is well-designed and really quite lovely, with a lot of natural light and free WiFi. It never got too loud, even though it got quite busy, so it was a great place to hunker down for a bit. I was really impressed with L'Artisan and will definitely go back!!
(4)Jennifer R.
I've been here twice. Once with my dad for a brunch-type thing and once while in a rush by myself for lunch. The first time we both got iced coffees and egg and cheese breakfast sandwiches on croissants. The coffee was realllly good. The sandwiches are realllly good (cause croissants). And the prices weren't terrible. However for the time I came for lunch I got a falafel wrap and it was pretty pricy for a sandwich. It was pretty fancy, though, it had pickled veggies in it. I'm not sure if I really have a taste for that much pickled veggie, cause it was salty. Anyways it's a convenient location and there are a lot of options so I'm willing to go back.
(4)Mike G.
Living right around the corner, I couldn't be happier with this as my local coffee spot. Prompt friendly service, great coffee, delicious pastries and lunch foods, and a clean and attractive interior. Generous outdoor seating, a picturesque setting and occasional live music round it out to make L'Artisan a special place that I'm lucky to have only a stone's throw away. There's a reason I've only been to Starbucks (equally close) once in the year I've lived here!
(5)Marcy L.
Frou frou a toi, L'artisian. I often feel so at home at a small table, sipping from a small cup, listening to soft jazz tunes and the humble clink and swirl of cups, saucers, and spoons. This location is a great find; euro-cafe-esque with a little local flair. Lovely selection of gifts / snacks / lunch / classic bakery nibblies. You could choose from their range of snacks (dried fruit 2$, fancy chocolates 22$, foreign nom shortbread/Halvah/Pantoncino 8$and up); yogurt/sandwiches/pasta salads 4-8$; behind the counter delights (baklava, wraps, cookies, bars.....croissants!) ~$5. Coffee and tea ranges from 2$ - 5$ and they're in love with illy products (products are sold in-store). Traffic laps around the seating area (so keep your elbows in OR sit on 1 of 3 comfortable seats in the entrance/window area). In the summertime there are small bistro table outside (marvelous). Fifth star taken away due to a restroom rude awakening. When I commented that I was surprised that there wasn't a loo, the pleasant barista instructed for me to follow him behind the counter. Through the swinging door and to the left of the kitchen, I was told to "watch my step" on my way downstairs (images posted); I continue down the rabbit hole. The windy sloped stone stairwell leads into the unfinished basement. A red arrow points "RESTROOM"...I continue to a door, a light switch, a foul odor, and I have "arrived." I had to laugh because L'Artisian is SO NOT this bathroom! I have stepped into some alternate universe bathroom. It can't be right! In closing, DO go to L'Artisian (it is lovely and delicious), but do not plan to "go" once you're there.
(4)Mary L.
Just a little update, it appears to me that 99% of their bakery items are either baked elsewhere or pre frozen, shipped over and thawed ready to eat. That would be fine, if they were all outstanding and of good quality. But, alas, they're not. Don't get the lemon squares. They are nasty.
(3)Hilary H.
Looking for a spot to plunk yourself down for the afternoon, eat a little lunch and do a little work? This is the place for you, then. With a lovely range of panini, wraps, salads and beverages, L'Artisan is a whole lotta convenience in a cute little cafe. The location is precious - on the corner of Wayalnd Ave and Angell St, with a lovely patio and plenty of natural light. They also have free wifi, which is always plus. Lots of people were working when I was here, but the noise level was pretty low, and we were all respectful of each other. My little wrap was tasty, and I couldn't help but notice the selection of beer and wine as I chose my iced tea from the drinks case. So very European - c'est magnifique!
(4)Katie C.
Love this cafe! They excel at the basics; offee is delicious, the staff is friendly, and the food is excellent. What really sets them apart though is their ambiance and location. During the day you can grab a table outside under an umbrella in the center of wayland square. At night it's lit up with white lights. They play jazz and classical music at the proper volume (the lack of bumpin top 40 beats alone deserves 5 stars.) Another benefit; the wireless works inside and out. Enjoy!
(5)Emmy M.
This place is a Wayland Square gem. It has a really nice atmosphere. They play tasteful jazz, it's always clean, and it's relatively easy to concentrate if you're working. Service has been friendly in my experience. And the place always smells amazing! L'Artisan has a large array of cookies and pastries. They also seem to specialize in Middle Eastern food, and you can get to-go containers of things like hummus, tabouleh, and stuffed grape leaves from the shelves as you walk in. There are containers of meal-sized salads to go, and tuna salad and pasta salad. Prices are steep for the sides (like $4-5 for a smallish dollop of tuna). I personally think the panini are a better deal as far as savory things go, at about $6-7 for a nicely portioned sandwich that you can have grilled on the spot. There are additional enticing options like soup/salad for about $7. Today when I was there, one of the salads was a beet salad that looked really pretty. The little meat pies (kind of in the shape of Hamentaschen) are really excellent and you can have them warmed up. The huge slices of baklava are also a must. As far as beverages go, I've never been disappointed. Solid Illy brand coffee, really great chai. A small coffee is something like $1.85. It sounds reasonable, but I have to say that their small ceramic cups just seem so small to me! Maybe I'm crazy and it's an optical illusion, but I swear their small cups are tiiiiiiny. Anyway, I recommend getting the larger sizes of beverages for the sake of value. Might as well have something to last you the whole time you're there. Finally, they have a lot of nice little gift-y food items like packaged cookies, chocolates, and baked bread from bakeries in the area.
(4)Sandie E.
I love this place for many reasons - Outdoor seating - check! A cooler full of ready to go salads and snacks - check! Wifi - check! Amazing coffee - check! Lox sandwich - check, check, check! Muffins - check! Friendly staff - check! People watching - check! I stop here every chance I get because it's that good.
(5)Amy F.
Awesome atmosphere, little pricey but nothing more than a Starbucks run. The food selection is great, from wraps to salads - they have all u can want. Workers are very friendly and quick to help you with any questions or needs. Great place to sit in or outside and really capture the "providence feel!"
(5)Jay L.
These guys know how to make cappuccino! And I have had cappuccion in 12 countries and all over the USA. They do it! Use of Illy Beans from Italy takes the cake! Their decaf expresso is smooth and rich. Not bitter like Starbucks! And their food is delightful.
(5)Amanda P.
I used to work down the road from here so lunch trips were pretty frequent. I love their sandwiches and the owner was always friendly making custom BLT's even when I know it wasn't on the menu. Their sandwiches are pre-made but still very fresh. Love the turkey on cranberry bread. You can add either a salad or soup for a minimal price, something like 2 bucks. Every time I went there I was always tempted to try their sweets but never did. I doubt I would want to eat inside because it is pretty cramped but it was a nice way to get out of the office and get some great food too.

I totally love this spot! What a great cafe, plenty of selection and healthy at that! If you are craving sweets this also is the place to stop! Tons of cakes, torte, and more. They have a huge amount of outdoor seating as well and space inside. Very friendly counter people, who have made a positive impression on me! I go here when I am craving a good coffee and a sandwich for lunch. I has an amazing turkey sandwich on a cranberry baguette with provolone. Totally craving that bread again! They have wine here as well! They have a few specials that include a beverage, I think they had one today for a glass of wine with a lunch entree for a reasonable price. They have a huge selection of drink and prepared salads. I have had their beet and tomato salad before and it was so tasty and healthy. Give them a try! Totally worth what you pay for as they take pride in their products.

Coffee was decent (not fantastic though. Americanos were slightly weak) and at the end of the day they still had a good amount of grab and go food available. I was pleased with my salad, it was fresh--though after a drive from northern VT to RI, anything would have tasted pretty good. The atmosphere was pretty laid back and it definitely seemed like a place I'd go back to. I can't say much else because I just went in, grabbed food and left, but I wouldn't avoid it if I was back in the area.

L'Artisan has become my go-to spot in my neighborhood for coffee, breakfast, snacks, and an altogether amazing meal and relaxing time. Their iced coffee isn't my favorite in town, but honestly who cares when they have one of the best patios in the area to sip it on and enjoy an amazing sandwich (get the roast beef or the thai chicken, hot off the panini press). If you are there for breakfast I highly recommend getting the breakfast sandwich on a croissant or the spinach and pepper quiche. Superb. The atmosphere is perfect for reading or chatting with a pal on a rainy or snowy day inside, or on a sunny day in the warmer months, enjoy your meal under one of the umbrellas on the large patio. Whenever you go, there is something you will find to enjoy. Sweets, sandwiches, coffee, tea, fruit salads, and loads of international delights (try the cous-cous salad or Mediterranean platter. Both are awesome). They also have a huge selection of European chocolates and other goodies. If you are looking to bring home a treat of the non-baked variety, you may be able to find something from their collection. They also have beer and wine that you can enjoy with your meal or treat. Their staff (including their awesome owner) rock. Everyone is super friendly, and most of them know what I drink and how I take my coffee, which always makes me feel good. I was delighted to see that they finally put out an extra milk container with skim milk at the milk and sugar tray. Now I don't have to bug them every time i want skim with my iced coffee. The only thing that I don't like is that occasionally the iced coffee tastes a bit stale. I also wish that they used locally roasted coffee instead of Illy, but hey it is a European style cafe, so I suppose it makes sense to serve Italian coffee. Love, love, love it. You will find me here more often than not, because honestly, why wouldn't you want to hang out at such a cozy and fun place.

Love the cranberry chicken sandwiches & iced chai lattes! The service is always prompt and friendly. Great place to grab a quick coffee/pastry or sit down to relax and grab a bite. One of my favorite places in the Wayland Square area. It can be a bit pricey but the quality and service makes up for that. Check this place out! P.S. If you go later on in the evening, they have the lantern lights on for a romantic feel. Great place to bring a date.
(4)Michael A.
The bread in this place is simply spectacular! However, $8 for the sandwich that I just bought was excessively high for the portion. It was literally two pieces of turkey, three pieces of cheese, some lettuce and mayonnaise, and that was it The girl with the blonde hair and tattoo on her chest waited on me, and her service was simply some of the worst that I've ever experienced. Sorry to say that no matter how great the bread was, I will not be going back to this place again.
(2)Maggie O.
A real treat. The pastries and sandwiches are so yummy and the selection is quite big. They also have quite a bit of indoor seating and when the weather is warm, the outdoor seating is great.
(5)William H.
This is place is great! I've had a few of the paninis and a number of the salads and wraps. It's consistently tasty and the service is also very friendly. It is a bit on the pricey side - $11 for a sandwich, chips and a drink. But it is in Wayland Sq so that accounts for that markup! Another minor gripe is the wifi - other than my first visit there I can never get my laptop to connect. I don't have a problem anywhere else and the staff doesn't have any solution. Perhaps one of these days I'll even have a beer or glass of wine with lunch. But it'll have to be a day I'm not trying to get online to do some work! I really do like the food here.
(4)Jeffrey B.
Earlier this week it occurred to me that there was no way I was going to have time to prepare a full dinner for 12 people on Friday night so I asked L'Artisan if they would prepare the food. We had the dinner this evening and everything was wonderful. L'Artisan provided us with lentil soup, chicken and lamb kabobs, tabouli, cucumber and tomato salad and halvah which I think might have been home made. Everybody raved about the food!
(5)Jay D.
How cute is this place? Set right on a street corner this cozy cafe has plenty of outdoor seating + with their precious little designs on your hot coco you can't go wrong. The staff is super dooooper nice + they have plenty of choices to fill your tummy from soup to nuts! Coffee, beer, wine, sandwiches, pasta, soup + more! Street parking only. If you want an alternative to Starbucks this is your kinda place.
(4)Jessica H.
L'Artisan is pretty awesome. Great sandwiches, salads, snacks, and atmosphere. Plus they have wifi! And while I often come here to study during the day, it is also a fun place to have a drink in the evening. All in all, I'm psyched to have such a great cafe nearby. The only drawback, in my opinion, is the coffee. It tastes burnt. I can drink it in a pinch (at least it is strong), but I make far better coffee at home. I can even get a better brew at Starbucks, which is pretty sad. Since I love coffee, that *almost* dropped this review down to a three-star. But. The muffins! Seriously, this place sells the best muffins I have ever had, hands down. I have tried the pistachio, apple, and coffee cake, and they are all fantastic. Yes, muffins are terrible for you. But still--these are worth it.
(4)Shar A.
A go-to coffee shop for me to work or meet with friends. Free wifi, fresh food, Mediterranean options. Pastries, fresh salads, homemade soup, sandwiches, light and healthy chilled options in fridge like chicken salad or tabbouleh. Great coffee and fresh squeezed juice. Only downside...bathroom is past the kitchen and down a scarily steep set of stairs. Staff is friendly and shop is covered in windows which makes it bright and pleasant. You can sit outside when the weather is nice and it is located right in the middle of Wayland Sq. Street parking is easy to find.
(4)Antonio G.
Friendly service, great pastries, and usually plenty of seating keep me coming back again ad again. L'Artisan prepares fruit smoothies in the morning, and they are a good alternative to the coffee-based drinks. The sandwich selection is not extensive but I usually have a hard time choosing one I want when I decide to have one. I like all things raspberry, and can't resist their raspberry short bread.
(4)Jessica S.
What hit me first about this place is the cramped layout. They had 3 tables where there should have been 1, no more than 2. If it were busy you would be sitting on top of the person next to you. I had a cappucino and left quickly. The space itself is nice with the brick walls and nice ceilings, good potential but the seating is definitely not good. If I lived in the area I may get something to go because they do have many food options here but I don't. The outside seating area is a nice option but it is on a semi busy road still. meh
(3)Sarah E.
Stopped at this adorable little cafe recently for a coffee. The cafe has pre-made sandwiches and wraps as well as some delicious-looking treats. Coffee was good and not overpriced. And I just loved the little outdoor patio. I will definitely check out for lunch in the near future!
(4)Stefanie G.
This place is actually open until 10pm right now! We got some red velvet and cookie dough(?) cake. Both were moist, creamy and delicious! I believe the sweets come in from a distributor and are not made there, but they were still great nonetheless. Awesome neighborhood sweet spot. It also has what is probably some of the best outdoor seating on the east side.
(4)Philip C.
I recently moved to Wayland some months ago and there are a few options for coffee within walking distance from my apartment. I was excited to see this was one of the best reviewed coffee spots in the city. In my excitement and haste I decided this would be a great spot to introduce someone new in town to those little niche shops that make Providence a great-little city. The interior of the place is nice and cozy. The noise level is perfect to have a nice little chat or read a book. I have no complains (that's right I said complains) about the coffee. It's bold and rich but more importantly it had caffeine. It was a little on the pricey side, but whatever. A fella's got to eat, right? Where it went wrong was the dessert options my companion and I decided to grab. She grabbed some sort of sweet cake that was way too sweet. Nibbling on that was like diving head first into a pool of sugar while playing Candyland. She also grabbed a weird candy that can only be described as pistachios trapped in white tar. It's also entirely possible that my friend has terrible tastes in dessert, but I digress. Either way those didn't matter as much as when they started washing the windows with what smelled like ether. The smell was volatile. One would have thought they wanted us to leave or pass out so "they" could steal my organs to sell on the black market. Not a fan of those options. They also don't have a bathroom???? What beverage establishment doesn't have a restroom?? I'll have to give it another shot before I give it better marks, but I'm bringing a gas mask next time.
(2)Chris J.
I loved the atmosphere. I sat down on a Saturday morning, read the local Brown paper, and enjoyed a cappuccino. Everything looked great. Definitely a lot of customer traffic, but that didnt bother me one bit. The bathroom was interesting, but an awesome find as it was down steep stair deep in the basement!
(5)Carly B.
A little slice of Europe in Wayland Sq. I love this place even more *because* lame-o Starbucks is next door :P This cafe is just right for a meet-up for a solo coffee or sandwich indulgence. The food is bright and fresh and pastries are lovely. The dressed cucumbers, peppers and cube of feta served on the side of my smoked salmon wrap was such a nice touch. There's a smart flow to this little place, ushering you past the cooler of nibbles that invite you to grab some cheese, nuts, salads and sides to dine in or bring home for later, and onto to the pre-made sandwiches and wraps and baked goods. Clean, contemporary, cute + classy. Primo location for outdoor patio.
(4)Alma C.
I have a feeling people come here more to people watch than to drink good coffee. Illy is ok but it doesn't even come close to being in the same league as The Edge which used to be just around the corner (my heart is still broken....sigh... tasty pumpkin and mixed berry muffin...sigh...Intelligentsia...SIGH). I'll give it a 3 for decent cafe food and cute atmosphere, but I get my caffeine fix elsewhere.
(3)T P.
Great atmosphere and really cheap. Delicious pastries and coffees. Decent paninis. Wine tastings occasionally. Great. (FYI for some reason this draft never got posted! I wrote this in June 2011)
(5)Abby M.
This is my favorite coffee shop in Wayland Sq. The only reason they are getting 4 stars rather than 5 is because the chairs are steal (chilly bottom)! But seriously- this is a great place! A huge and diverse range of fresh salads, sandwiches (which they will happily press in to a panini and serve to you on a plate), wraps, and desserts. They also have a great lil market section where you can buy all those European chocolates, drinks, breads that we love and long for here. Oh- they also offer beer and wine! There is truly something for everyone- including high chairs if you have lil ones in tow (personal side-note: pls take them out of the shop if they're crying hysterically)! Their coffee is the best in the square. Period. However, I usually get the chai latte with cinnamon, so much so that the super friendly night barista knows my order and starts making it when I come in! He is always chatty and super funny. He, along with the rest of the staff, make the experience really one of the best coffee shop atmospheres in the PVD area. Chic, clean, service with a smile. I can't wait for it to be summer when I can take my coffee outside and enjoy the extensive outdoor seating area they offer!
(4)Katherine H.
L'artisan is just perfect. It is without a doubt my favorite place to duck in and get a quick bite in the Wayland square area. If the outside patio and free wifi aren't enough to lure to you in, the food is always fresh, delicious and extremely vegetarian friendly. The baked goods are unbelievably good, and well priced for their large size (get a brownie--sooo good). Still not a believer? Two words; liquor license. Yes, yes, the rumors are true you can have your booze and drink it too. Whether running in to pick up a fresh sandwich or sitting for hours while typing away on your laptop, L'artisan is an all around fabulous pick!
(5)Holly S.
So pricey, but I do like outdoor patio and I had a small snack and a coffee. They also filled my water bottle for me which was nice :) I'd give it more stars but I didn't see a bathroom, big no no in my book and it is overpriced, then again it is wayland square....
(3)Elizabeth H.
All I have to say is that I walked in before an early shift this week and Ghassan already knew what I wanted to drink - the usual skim cappuccino. I love that. Certainly doesn't happen at Starbucks, you know? This is the best neighborhood coffee shop, they really appreciate and support their neighborhood and have a lot of regulars and familiar faces. Can't wait for warmer weather when the patio opens!
(5)Monika S.
Illy coffee, great biscottis and little treats from Europe, fresh packed food for quick easy meals including great salads with fresh strawberries and blue, how much better can it get? it's open til 10 so when you don't feel like cooking or going out, you can grab a great dinner at a great cost. They even serve wine! I can't wait for the nice summer weather - table seating is already set up for outside! Plus fantastic staff.

So I only heard about this place a few weeks ago and I've already been here 3 times. I do have to say that it has been a beautiful day all three times, so the outdoor patio was the biggest draw. The indoor space, though I haven't really experienced it fully does seem sunny and comfortable. That being said, I've tried their homemade bean salad - a yummy afternoon treat, their bagel and cream cheese - a little small, but with a small side of fruit, their ice tea - perfectly brewed, and their mocha - very smooth. That's what I've tried, and I have seen many other things I would like to try - the homemade hummus and pita chips, the wraps, the pasta salads, and the baked goods just to name a few. So, I'm a fan, and I will be back, even in the winter. So I bet you're wondering about the 4 stars then, eh? Well, it's because of the bathroom situation. I did get to use a bathroom there one time, but after that experience, I have tried to avoid it. To access the bathroom, you have to go behind the counter, through the kitchen, down some hazardous stairs, into a very unfinished basement. The bathroom itself is fine, but getting there is weird and a little dangerous. I don't really know the solution for this, but it has meant that I have left L'Artisan earlier than I would like - I wouldn't had a lunch there once, but decided against it because of the bathroom situation.

For a while, I was eating here much too often. For the sake of my wallet, I had to tone it down. I can't speak to the coffee or pastries, but I love the sandwiches and prepared goods in the refrigerator case. Note: This business is not in Fox Point but Wayland. This seems to be a Yelp issue w/ Providence neighborhoods.
(4)Spencer D.
L'Artisan is an ideal spot for a petit-dejeuner, complete the daily newspaper + a ceramic mug of strong European-inspired espresso. The outdoor patio is the best (hands down) in Wayland Square.
(4)Janet E.
Delicious pasta salad and sandwiches. Difficult to order because only about half of the sandwiches in the case are labeled. It's hard to guess what they are.
(3)Bailey M.
This place just opened up on August 10th. It is a small cafe with both indoor and outdoor seating. The owners are european, so the cafe has some international touches, like using Ily coffee. They offer a wide selection of pre-made salads, dried fruits, nuts, smoothies, croissants + pastries, and breakfast foods. I had a croque monsieur, took it to work, and toasted it in the office. It was fresh and delicious and only $3.77. The place is quite pleasant and clean inside. Service was a bit shaky on day 1 when they opened, but I think they will soon get more comfortable. As far as I know, they don't have free wi-fi or any distinctive foods that will help them compete with the edge, starbucks, or mad ernies which are all within walking distance. And to echo what I know you all are thinking: "I hope this place doesn't close down!"
(4)Sarah V. M.
In general, I'm a sucker for three things: good coffee, good pastries, and outdoor seating. Imagine my delight when all of this was coupled with Mediterranean fare and, wait for it: beer & wine at L'Artisan! A perfect place for sneaking a treat, regardless of your heart's desire.
(5)K S.
L'Artisan is a pretty great little spot. As many others have noted, they have really great seating, both indoors and outdoors. For outdoor seating in Wayland Square, it can't be beat. You aren't sitting right on the sidewalk, but rather in a good sized patio area. More importantly, the food and espresso are quite good. L'Artisan is very reminiscent of a European cafe with its plethora of pre-made sandwiches on baguettes and other yummy breads. I've had both sandwiches and wraps, and I've been pleased. If you get a sandwich, you can request that they warm it for you on a panini press. The espresso is very well made, and they serve beer and wine. A great spot to do some work or grab some food.
(4)S K.
Came here with a friend 2 weeks ago. Adorable and cozy with very friendly service. We only ordered coffee, tea and a couple of cookies (which the server said was fresh from their kitchen, not outsourced), but everything was great. Why would anyone go to Starbucks when this country is filled with great mom & pop shops like this??
(4)Jean F.
Always the freshest ingredients and simple, good light food. Nice ambiance to bring a book or laptop and hang out for a bit. I've never been disappointed here!
(5)Laura S.
I really want to like this spot. It's in a great location. They have a ton of delicious pastries and more savory fare. There's a nice selection of gourmet grocery items and some prepared foods. And it's spacious enough that I imagine it would be a lovely place to hang out on a Saturday morning with a coffee and a book while enjoying some of the above fare. So why haven't I done this? Because every time I go in, I get the distinct impression that my desire to trade my money for their wares is a distinct inconvenience to the staff. Is this some kind of attempt to create an authentically French atmosphere? Whatever the reason, it just doesn't feel worth it to subject myself to the attitude when there are so many other options for coffee and snacks in a 1-block radius. Au revoir, L'Artisan.
(2)Cara G.
Nice addition to the wayland neighborhood :) Okay espresso beverages (cant expect more from illy), but a great little spot for lunch or a quick stop in. They have TONS of bean salads (I mean like 5 or 6 bean varietites), and beer and wine!! I have always had a posititve experience and will definitly keep returning.
(4)Leslie N.
I love their coffee! Even the decaf is delish. And a medium is larger and cheaper than DD. The staff are also really friendly! They made me feel like an honored guest. It was a great pick-me-up. Unfortunately, it is a tad chilly in the winter, as it's a small place and the door is constantly opening and closing for new customers. Due to its popularity and small size, it is also quite crowded, especially during peak hours (e.g., around lunchtime). I'd recommend going during off times or arriving early, especially if you want to snag one of the three coveted cushioned seats! I haven't tried any of their tasty treats yet. Will update this review once I do.
(4)John C.
I ordered an espresso. It was not edible. They sell canned Illy by the door. People! Run away from a coffee place that sells canned coffee. Nothing including nitrogen seals will make your preground coffee stay fresh. Ick. I was surprised that they had an Au Bon Pain type of fridge thing going, so on point for that. But still with the Illy...it makes my heart sad. Inside feels a bit odd, too much mod furniture and nothing to break the space up, no plants, nooks, or anything, no walls. Not so much feeling it. Oh yeah, and they sell canned coffee, did I mention that? The food seems to be very good though.
(3)Ellen P.
Everything I have had here has been delicious. As far as salads (couscous, bean, etc.) go, I don't know that I've had any better. I'm not a big coffee drinker, but it's fine as they have a good selection of teas, cold beverages, and smoothies. They have also recently added wine and beer to their offerings. As summer comes upon us L'Artisan's ample outdoor seating will be a plus. While Wayland Square boasts a variety of restaurants, there are few places where one can enjoy a sandwich/drink/whatever outside. Not only that, but the location (at the awkward 3-way Wayland/Angell intersection) is great for people-watching. (Or parking enforcement watching -- whatever floats your boat.) The hours are also great -- you can pop in for an early-morning coffee or drink a beer with friends after work (they close at 9.) If you're in the area, I definitely recommend L'Artisan!
(5)Andrew S.
This is my new goto coffee shop in the wayland square area. They have a nice selection of tables (in and out) along with pretty good illy coffee selections. Add free wifi and decent music and it is a nice place to study. I have yet to try any of the food, but they seem to have a nice selection of pastries, sandwiches, and salads.......might be a nice lunch spot as well.
(4)Zach H.
L'Artisan is my go to cafe on the east side. The location and decor are as good as the food, which is excellent. They have a great selection of bread, pastries, salad, and middle eastern treats like halavah and grape leaves. Everything is fresh, portions are smallish but totally reasonable. They also serve beer and wine which unusual for a cafe in Providence. The inside is cozy and modern with plenty of outlets and free wifi for anyone trying to accomplish work. The outside patio is also a great spot for people watching or enjoying a good book. The place is always busy but not completely overcrowded like Seven Stars. The staff and owner are extremely friendly and courteous. L'artisan is a great addition to the neighborhood. I wish them continued success.
(5)Paul G.
Attended a meeting on the patio in front. Perfect busy city setting if you like that as I do. I'll return and go inside, hear the menu is awesome
(4)Shibs K.
The staff is always friendly, ask how my day is, and some remember what I like to order (soy chai latte). Outside: Adorable patio/sidewalk space with tables, chairs, and a great view in the heart of Wayland Square. On a sunny day, this is the perfect spot to sit with your pastry and warm beverage. For the cold days that are drawing near, I hope they find fun ways to entice people to use the outdoor space (tip to owners: perhaps some "smores kits" with a mini-flame so you can sit out and enjoy the cold with a wintery treat...actually, that would be cute indoors too). Inside: Feels like a NYC gone Europe coffee shop kind of lounge. There are dried fruits, fresh fruits, salads, hummus-type goodies, grape leaves, mini-meals, amazing cheeses and crackers, fresh breads (they even have naan and gluten free honey multigrain), hot soups, pastas, sandwiches, wraps, and a huge assortment of fresh baked yummies (the baklava looks delicious!). They bake these in the kitchen, and you'll catch them unloading a tray of warm croissants into the display every so often. They have an assortment of warm drinks (chai, coffee, espresso, etc). The seating inside is plentiful, and there are windows all along the walls for people watching. There is also FREE-WIFI, and I've never had issues finding an electrical outlet. Prices: Very decent pricing on the drinks and food. You could have a beverage, pastry, and come out easily under $5 for breakfast. For lunch and dinner, you could have a beverage and a meal for $7-10. The pastries are actually ridiculously reasonable, averaging around $2. Feel: I love the jazz music they play, definitely sets the mood. The interior is all newly done, so it has a clean and fresh feel inside. Crowd: There is a wide variety of older students and locals, and everyone is excited to have a new place on the block to hang at until 9pm. GLUTEN FREE DINERS: One of the first places in Wayland Square to offer a GLUTEN FREE honey multi-grain loaf of bread!!! It tastes as great as it looks. I took it home, put some butter on a slice, and warmed it in the oven...it was heavenly :0) For a coffee shop, this place is great at making GF beverages, hehe :0) ...There is a wide variety of soups, salads, fruit, nuts, yogurt, cheeses, and some of the on-the-go mini meals are GF. I asked the owner if there would be any GF sweet treats, and he said he is looking into it...so stay tuned!
(5)Lori H.
Really nice European style cafe serving a variety of breakfasts and lunch items as well as wines for a leisurely afternoon snack. Pleasant outdoor street patio. The only serious drawback that would deter one from drinking multiple cups of coffee is the restroom in the basement.
(5)Joshua K.
I love this place! The staff is always friendly. The atmosphere reminds me of a real European cafe. Get the cheese platter and 2 glasses of wine for twenty bucks!
(4)A Z.
Love this place, reminds me of a little Italian cafe and has plenty of indoor an outdoor seating. Food is good, coffee is good, snacks are good. All around great place.
(5)Sergio M.
Prices are laughable considering what you get for your money. I spoonful of macaroni salad for over 4 bucks has got to be one of the most ridiculously priced lunch items I've seen in a long, long time. Ballsy.
(2)Sameer Ud Dowla K.
Good place for a sandwich or pastry. I'm a fan of their bocconcino basil panini sandwich. I love that even if you don't order the side salad, they will give always serve your panini with at least a taste of one of their daily salads. I have to say I prefer the croissants here over Seven Stars', and their artisan pies (imagine spanakopita or baked samosas but with all sorts of ingredients) are the perfect snack. Busy but never crowded. Great location, right in the triangle between Angell and South Angell in Wayland Square.
(4)NiNi M.
Taking the day to walk around Wayland Square with my sister checking out shops and places we've always just drove past, we decided to stop and check out L'Artisan Cafe. What a find I tell you! We both had Iced Cappuccino, that if anyone knows anything about coffee or iced beverages.. THIS was done properly. I waited, with pleasure for it to brew, knowing it was going to be done right! The woman that waited on us let us look at the menu for that evening's dinner, it looked superb! A luxurious tasting menu with a fabulous wine accompaniment. We asked if they had a drink special of the day and was told it was Cafe Affogato. For those of you who haven't had this delight it's an Italian dessert drowning in espresso. Affogatos can be made by covering ice cream with strong coffee. A typical Italian Affogato is a scoop of vanilla gelato covered with a shot of espresso and served immediately. Affogatos should not have too much melted ice cream or gelato, and should be bitter-sweet with a combination of textures. They have fabulous indoor and outdoor seating. We chose to sit outdoors and didn't feel like we were sitting in the middle of the intersection. We plan to go back soon and try their lunch or dinner menu. Everything was homemade and looked fantastic. The prices were affordable, even on a penny pincher's pocketbook! Salute`! NiNi M.
(4)Dan C.
Sort of pretentious sounding name, and that combined with the prime real estate that this place occupies in Wayland Sq had me thinking this place would be some crappy place that would ride off of the little patio outside alone. Well, the outside patio is pretty darn nice, as is just about everything else. The baked goods that I've had here so far I much prefer to Seven Stars the big game in town. If you can get the croissants in the morning, they're all nice and airy and flaky not gluey the way other place's are. It's clean and comfortable inside, they have free wifi and some nice looking deli lunch items which I have yet to try but probably grab before too long.
(5)AJ G.
We love their coffee and deserts. Outside seating is very nice. Highly recommended!!
(5)Jay E.
We stopped by L'Artisan today for lunch and were quite impressed. We tried a mozzarella and tomato panini, turkey with avocado wrap, and a bowl of corn chowder. No complaints on the food, it was very tasty, the chowder being our favorite. The dining area is extremely cramped and a little difficult to navigate. If you are craving a fresh sandwich and a hot bowl of soup this is the place for you; the pastries also looked amazing.
(4)Dan R.
I was in there for coffee and a little bowl of fruit today. It's nice and quiet. The service is slow, but I wasn't in a rush, so it was OK. Actually, if you think about it - when you want to sit down for a nice coffee so you can read a paper on the moments of inertia of bat wings and bodies, having someone take their time while they make your coffee is almost a plus. Oh, and they do have wireless internet there, FYI.
(4)Andy G.
L'Artisan sits at the nexus of Wayland Square and deservingly so. I've only been there a handful of times so my sample size is admittedly small but for each time I've been there I've been surprised by something new and wonderful. It's easy to single out the various attributes of this cafe that make it special. Plenty of outdoor seating makes it an ideal locale for chatting with friends, reading or studying, or people-watching during the warmer months (namely, spring, summer, fall). Delicious sandwiches paired with sweet chai tea lattes are perfect for cold, rainy days. The people behind the counter are friendly, warm, and inviting. The interior is bright and clean, the decor modern, the ambience chill, the prices a tad high but not enough to break the bank. A good number of outlets and tables. L'Artisan hits all the checkpoints for that chic, cool yet unpretentious, down to earth charming neighborhood cafe.
(4)Hold The Balsami C.
it is so good to feel a little piece of Worldly sophistication without pretentiousness. Wine while you relax on the terrace? No problem. Interesting and good food too. One thought: I don't know if Americans can accept cups of coffee that are not super sized. OK another: you may want to offer 2 levels and prices of bread (fresh and day old)
(3)
