I went in this place to get a bacon egg and cheese, I have to say it wasn't that bad it was like any other bacon egg and cheese sandwich. How ever while waiting for my food to get cooked it wasn't the food that surprised it was the atmosphere and the people that came in the shop. The shop was like monks for Seinfeld ever one new each other. Repeat customers over and over again the owner knew everyone who came into the store. I thought it was a little odd how everyone knew each other and I was the only out sided. Over all I thought everything was very good

Heh, does it get more local than this? In the course of a breakfast meeting here, we encountered... - George, the guy behind the counter... not only does he seemingly know everyone in Providence by name, but he whips up some truly affordable, edible breakfast grub (I was full after the first half of my breakfast wrap with egg, sausage, and cheese). - A (generally) friendly neighborhood parking officer. One who gives out tickets when he's in a good mood... and says "Screw it" when he's in a bad mood. NB: if you forget to move your car in time, hope he's in a shitty shitty mood. - A lady who thought she lost her glove here. It was nowhere to be found. We suggested she drink more coffee... This little shed with two tables and a handful of window seats might not look like much, but the menu is more expansive than one might expect. Oh yeah... and nice people work (and hang out) here.

I recently visited the Coffee King while visiting Providence for the Rhode Island International Film Festival. My friend and I were looking for a quick lunch, and happened to be walking past the cafe. We took a quick peek through the window, and we were quickly met by a man who told us that Coffee King was exactly what we were looking for. Before we knew it, we were sitting inside, he (the owner) had cleaned one of the two tables, and and two New York wieners were delivered to us on a paper plate. The Wieners were delicious. The owner also treated us to two excellent strawberry-banana smoothies. The Cafe also offered other lunch items (wraps, salads, sandwiches), along with coffee and pastries. Other customers were coming in and out as we ate, but the owner stayed and chatted with us for a while. Coffee King has only been around for two years, but it already seems to be a staple in the busy downtown area. It was recommended to us by a few people upon our arrival in Providence, and the employees are a very proud and tightly-knit crew. The owner took out a large posterboard with pictures of all their regulars, and proudly pointed out his favorite customers. The Coffee King delivered everything that was promised, a delicious, quick bite to eat, and the friendliest people I've ever met in this city. Anybody who needs a quick, friendly lunch in Providence needs to give this place a shot.

A solid option if you're downtown and looking for wieners. The wieners are good, the owner is really friendly, and they offer a student discount.

I know that this review is going to make me sound extremely snotty, but there's nothing to be done, I'm afraid. Here's what went down during my first visit to Coffee King: I chatted a bit with the friendly guys behind the register and ordered a nonfat mocha. The friendly guys informed me that there was no skim or low fat milk left. This was mildly annoying, but not a big deal; I had two percent milk instead. I received a student discount, and one of the gentleman made my mocha. As he handed it to me, he told me that "the machine was broken" but he had "been able to make the coffee anyway" even though it "might not be right." To his credit, he kindly asked me to let him know if I liked it or not. I politely drank a few sips of one of the worst cups of coffee I have ever had, and lied that it was fine. I sat in the small, poorly decorated space, contemplated my awful beverage, listened to the employees yell up and down the stairs at one another, and witnessed one employee standing on a counter where food preparation normally occurs. No one bothered to clean the counter after he got down. At this point, I decided I had had enough. I wished everyone a good evening, left, and threw my coffee away in the nearest trash can. Maybe this was an off day, maybe there really was something wrong with the machine, and maybe the workers don't usually climb around on the counters. And hey, I could have said something about the coffee. Still, it'll be awhile before I pay tribute to the King again.
