"Look, I'm really hungry and I want something that's made fresh and fast, but I've only got eight bucks." "Where are you?" "Downtown, right by the library." "Okay, word. Go to Cafe la France, right down the street from Bravo, past the closed-up porno store. Yeah, I know it looks sketchy. Yeah, I know there's a Dunkies right next door. Trust me on this. Go inside, talk to the staff, get their recommendations on what's good today, they're all super chill and really nice and know their stuff. Too bad it isn't Wednesday. The sausage and chicken jambalaya owns." "Thanks dude, you were right. I'm glad I made this fictional and hypothetical phone call to you, so that you could present your review of this awesome little cafe in narrative form." "Me too, it worked out nicely."

Hop on board, buckle in, and prepare to be transported through the misty North Atlantic, Siren filled seas, to Cafe La France. Prepare to have a beret wearing mime hold the door open and greet you to this wonderful land, where the French mingle and the bustiers tickle. Alright truth be told the beret wearing mime greeter was actually the coffee girl/cook smoking a butt outside. I said hey and she eyeballed me unresponsive wilst taking a long drag off of her cigarette. After entering I tried to read the chalk menu with all the options. The magic of a colorful chalk menu is almost lost when its jam packed with a thousand tiny options. Ordered a blueberry cobbler iced coffee, LARGE, because I ball hard, and ordered a sandwich that was like a thanksgiving one with homemade stuffing/cranberry sauce. Sandwich was very tiny for the price, with a tiny cup of potato salad, but delicious, and the coffee was amazing tasting. I still was a little hungry and more poor than I wanted to be after; But what are cha' gonna do? The only happy emotion I felt from the food crew was when they received a phone call saying they could close early because of the snow. In summary, pretty good place to eat good food if you're Beyoncé. A.K.A wealthy, and a small stomach. ...Flat..beautiful, small stomach. ::rubs own nipple::

Came here for a quick breakfast because it was early morning and the only other available choice was Dunkin Donuts. "It's good because it's open." Not sure what the French association is supposed to be, here. I was hoping they might have specialty pastries or something like that but it's pretty much your standard hole in the wall sandwich shop. I had a chai latte which tasted like what you'd get at Dunkin Donuts or Starbucks (like a melted pumpkin pie ala mode - super sweet and flavored with nutmeg, cinnamon, and vanilla, but no cardamom as with traditional masala chai). Also had a croissant because, well, you know. Wasn't like a usual French croissant (buttery, flaky), was more bland and bread-like, with a yeasty flavor which I actually quite liked but might not be to most people's expectations. Supposedly the sandwiches are very good here but I'll leave that to other people to explore.

Great place to grab a quick lunch. Closest thing to a deli downtown in my opinion, as a few other places a overpriced for the quality. Always have quick and friendly service as well. They usually have one or two sandwich specials which are always good! Give it a try!

Tried lunch here one day and the sandwiches were great and so was the staff. Their lunch deals weren't bad at all about $6 for sandwich, chips and a can of soda. Overall, a cute little cafe def worth checking out if your in the area.

This is my go-to lunch spot, as I work nearby. It's great for breakfast too. The coffee is good, the pastries generally yummy and fresh, and the bagels tasty. For lunch, they offer great daily specials ($6 for a sandwich, drink, and side) and soups. The sides are sometimes a gamble (I've had great pasta salads and really bad ones). The place might seem like a run-of-the-mill sandwich shop, but they make a damn good lunch spot and they're pretty fast!

I stopped by this cafe after walking around for about an hour trying to figure out what to have for lunch. I was having a hard time deciding whether to spend a lot of money for a fancy sandwich or to go junky for a little bit of money. Cafe la France ended up being a happy medium between the two. From the outside it doesn't look so nice, and it's not that much better on the inside, but I do like to chalkboard with the menu and the friendliness of the staff. I got a chicken salad sandwich on toasted french bread. The bread was good, the chicken salad was from willow tree - you can't go wrong there, and the sandwich came with a choice of sides (pasta salad, potato salad, or a bag of chips) and a can of soda or bottle of water. All of this for only 5.50. I didn't expect much, but was definitely pleasantly surprised. They have a pretty good selection of sandwiches and are open to having you make your own. If you're looking for a reasonably priced but good lunch, I would definitely check out cafe la france.

Although It doesn't look like much Cafe La France is a great spot for breakfast or lunch. Their breakfast sandwiches are the best in Rhode Island, and cheaper than Dunkin Donuts! Also their Iced Coffee is fantastic as well *same brand as Sip and Dip for you South Coasties* my favorite flavor is the blueberry cobbler. The Staff is always very friendly and the food is cheap and quick, a great place to catch a quick bite in the heart of Providence!

Friendly staff, free wi-fi, a variety of affordable foods, including yogurts. And now, fair-trade coffee from my friends at Equal Exchange. What better way to wait for a train?

Amazing cafe. Great prices, very friendly staff, and a very comfortable environment. For anyone on the go or anyone who is meeting up with a friend, Cafe La France is the place to go. p.s - I'd recommend the chicken pesto sandwhich with a soda, that always makes my day :)

Nice employees but the owner who runs the cash register during the morning rush is slow with a guaranteed long line just about every morning. They finally accept plastic! When she hands over the register duty to her young employees the line flies!
