This is a great little place to chill out and enjoy a awesome lunch. The staff here is so pleasant . They offer all types of coffee as well. The brownies are to DIE FOR!! Everything is homemade and fresh. Need I say more. Yum It's has a nice size parking lot . There is outside seating .its a great little cafe that always has a warm welcoming to there customers I've experience many of there salads and they have a fig dressing that is amazing and they shared there recipe with me! They sell little local treats jams and things to take home or for gift giving, it's worth the stop even if for a quick ice cream with the family.:)

While I lived in Portsmouth, this is where I ate the most. Excellent soups, very good sandwiches, nice people, and a nice location. The soups are why I come. They make new ones every day. Call before you come because some days, you just won't like the soups. Not because they're poorly made, but because some people just don't like some flavors. Enough with the kale! But when the soup sounds good, it will be. Very good clam chowder. They make a lot of mexican flavor soups, which are always good. Chicken broth soups are also good. Just great stuff. The sandwiches are very good. My wife loved the children's grilled cheese. I often got the Cape Cod chicken salad with nuts and cranberries. I also really liked the roast beef, which was always rare. The roast beef panini comes with a bistro sauce that is okay, but I prefer horseradish or peppercorn sauce on it. The Italian Stallion is a nice standard sandwich with salami and provolone and some nice banana peppers. The location has a gorgeous view across the street. Unfortunately, it's on a busy road and sitting outside can be disruptive, but inside next to a window is lovely. Look for the super weird paintings of the same two faceless women from many different angles. The people are always nice and never mind that I call four times a week to ask what soups are available. I only went for ice cream once. Ice cream in Rhode Island is not great. They had about 32 flavors, but 14 were listed as unavailable (I counted). The ice cream I had was fine. In particular, they have a flavor called Play Dough, which is good. It's sugar cookie dough died bright colors in vanilla. Probably their best offering. If you need lunch around Portsmouth, go to Anna Ds. Great soup and really good sandwiches make for the perfect lunch.

Stupid good. I had the ranchero breakfast wrap and it was one of the best wraps I have ever had. My fiancée had the the jack wrap and it was also incredible. The coffee is delicious as well. Remember specify how much sugar you would like, as it comes out pretty sweet if you ask for milk and sugar. Super fast and now a staple for every time we visit. Filling and fairly priced, with pleasant teens working the counter. Can't ask for more out of a breakfast spot. I'll be headed back ASAP.

Ok so we've been back for ice cream several times and it has made me downgrade to two stars because it seems they are more known for their ice cream than lunch - which is weird because it's just not that good. They do have quite a few flavors for such a small place but I find the flavor lacking. There's something not quite right about their ice cream. It's not creamy at all. It has a sandy texture that makes it seem like an ingredient was left out. (They don't make it here they buy it elsewhere and sell here.) I've tried several different flavors and they all have the same weird sandy non-creamy texture. It's disappointing to go out of your way for good ice cream, but I think it's worth the drive farther into town to Frosty Freeze or Newport Creamery.

I went here to meet a friend for lunch, since we both work in Portsmouth. The place is easy to get to, and easy to park in. There's an ice cream place right next to the cafe. The cafe has several great vegetarian options and the Bella Panini is insanely delicious, one of the best things I've eaten in a long time. their baked goods are also very tasty and the prices are reasonable. The service was friendly and the atmosphere is nice, and a little rustic. It's really everything you'd want in a cafe.

Great breakfast sandwiches and baked goods. Coffee was good and the ambiance was definitely a New England flare. Wifi wouldn't allow us to complete our work as it appeared they had blocks on certain websites like google mail. Free that up and you've got a great place.

Anna D's is a very dangerous place. The amount of options they have for coffee, espresso, sandwiches, breakfast, bagels, muffins, ice cream.... is endless. So abundant. There is usually a line and I think it's because the menu has so many delicious looking options! It's exactly 1.5 miles from my house as well. I have gone here many times and never been disappointed with my meal (bagels, grilled cheese is EPIC, pesto sandwiches, muffins). You really can't go wrong with anything on their menu. For a cafe, their prices are a little high, but you really are paying for the atmosphere and authenticity of the food... so you end up not even realizing the pricyness. I justify it as worth it. The cafe is charming, exquisite, and unique from all other "beachy" type places on the island. Anna D's has all authentic italian food that you can purchase here, with Italian style decor. You can enjoy your food at cute little tables inside, or sit on the porch and look out in the fields... imagining your in Tuscany rather than East Main Road. It would be a peaceful place to come and work, or read a book. Most importantly is their ice cream. I used to always go for their inventive flavors of gelato, or hard ice cream until recently I discovered their soft serve. Now as much of a bread connoisseur I am... I think my savor for ice cream exceeds that of wheat. They have, by far, the best soft serve I have ever tasted (in particular chocolate). Being 1.5 miles from my house... I go here way too much. I eat at least 1 meal here a week, and about 3-4 ice creams. They really should develop a frequent visitors card for people like my family.

I really love this little place. Vegetarian options abound and they have ice cream too. Seriously, come eat here. Try the soup of the day. Have a panini or salad. Sample some ice cream (the Graham Central Station is OMG YUM). You won't regret it.

The service was great, the muffin is delicious however the coffee is awful! I asked for a light roast coffee black and it is almost undrinkable. This place would have been a five stars but I'm a coffee drinker and it was bad.

My office is just right down the road from Anna D's, so we order sandwiches to go a lot. I think they're way better than Subway or D'Angelo's. They come with chips and a pickle, so you're paying about the same, but the quality is so much better. They have ice cream too, which I always try to resist when it's my turn to pick them up. The chipotle mayo on the turkey club? OMG.... SO good. I always want to ask for extra. The Motz is really good too, as I love tomato, mozzarella, and pesto. So I have no complaints putting the three together. The place is no frills, and easy to miss going down the road, but I really hope they make it. They make a mean sandwich.

Cozy spot on East Main Road in Portsmouth. I visited early on a Sunday to get a sandwich to take to a day long workshop at Tenth Gate next door. I was able to order my lunch, even though it was breakfast time. The counter service was friendly and quick. She gave me a moment to choose from the large sandwich menu -- I choose a corn and black bean burger that was made into a wrap. It was delicious, fully of flavor, and just the healthy meal I was needing. I will definitely go back. Would be a nice place to bring a book and enjoy a leisurely casual breakfast or lunch.

Really cute. Country charming but close quarters. The food (from the people who I went in with I had already eaten,) was really nice for example spinach and feta wrapped in a croissant. A lovely looking berry tart on top of cheese cake filling(?). It looks like a comfortable place to dine in although there looks to be no table service but it is expensive. What bothered me is that there is NO FREAKING BATHROOM. Hi I'm a cafe with no bathroom. Please come in, sit down, drink your coffee and eat your pastry/breakfast/ lunch but get outta here if you need to relieve yourself. No I don't want to buy a t-shirt with your logo and name on it. I am kind of sorry to say I won't be back here just because of that. I'm angry enough to rate it with 1 star but won't.

The wife and I tend to dive in here every couple of days to get a cup of coffee, a cappuccino or a latte and a muffin. Every once in a while we will get an early lunch. The coffee, cappuccino and lattes are very good. The muffins never let you down and the lunch is always very nice. The atmosphere is definately a relaxed, easy going one. A definite for anyone looking to grab a quick light lunch or a cup-o-joe.

Great place for a coffee and snack. People friendly and food fresh and tasty. Also has a nice supply of misc. food goodies which always please. Ice cream to die for, my kids love it.

i have a soft spot for this little local cafe. maybe it's the rustic, quirky interior, or the homemade sandwiches, and selection of baked goods in the gleaming display case. maybe it's the calm relaxed feeling here: i have never felt rushed or crowded, like many similar spots. there is just something about this cafe that sets it apart from the others. i think it's the good vibe. the service is friendly, the atmosphere is fairly quiet, and there is always a comfy spot to sit to eat your cookie or panini and drink your coffee. it's a great place to go for a casual lunch on your day off, with your significant other, or just for a quick stop on your way into work.

I was on an adventure to Newport for a bachelorette weekend. As part of our itinerary we were going to Greenvale Vineyards and I wanted to find a restaurant that could cater a lunch in some type for 12 girls rather than leaving everyone on their own to fend for themselves for lunch. Thanks to other Yelpers, I found Anna D's Café. Their website is a little vague, but I was able to find that they offer boxed lunches for $10/person that came with a choice of a sandwich/wrap/panini (that could be made as a wrap), soft drink or water, chips, and a choice of a cookie. Considering most of their sandwiches were $6-$8, this was definitely a bargain. I called the restaurant to inquire more and was told that to make the food for Saturday, they would need the order by 4 p.m. on Friday. I emailed my contact there, Maryellen (who was awesome to work with, by the way!) our order and when we would need the food ready. I got the restaurant a little early because I hit no traffic on my way down to Newport. Since it was nice, I grabbed an ice cream from their ice cream window and sat outside and enjoyed the sunshine. For $2.35 I got a small cup of red velvet cake ice cream. Totally delicious. Our food was to be ready by 1:00, but I didn't leave the restaurant until 1:20. They were running behind, and even missed one of our orders. But they triple-checked, realized their mistake, and quick made up the error. Our orders were placed in individual bags with our names on it so it made it easy to find out who-got-what. For 12 orders, we paid $144.90 with tax and a generous tip. $12/per person. The wraps were huge and completely filling. I had the tex mex wrap with blackened chicken (it could have used a little more blackening seasoning, but that's okay) and guacamole along with lettuce and tomato. I couldn't eat the chips or the cookie (that was at least 6" in diameter). All the girls enjoyed their lunch and commented on what a great find it was. The restaurant itself was a little small, but very cozy with ample room to sit outside and enjoy the warm weather. I will definitely be back the next time I head down to Newport.

Had breakfast with the Mrs. Great spot. Service was impecable and friendly. Had the sausage, egg and cheese on a bagel. Sounds typically boring but really good. All ingrediances seem to be high quality. I'd go again.

We stopped here for the second time in two weeks today and the experience was the same both times. In short, their BLT Hero Sandwich is the best Sandwich I've eaten in Rhode Island (maybe anywhere). The espresso was one of the worst I've had. The Sandwich had a ton of really crispy bacon and had the perfect amount of mayo in it. Looks like they have all the gear for making a proper espresso coffee, staff just lack the training or desire. We'll be coming back for another sandwich for certain, and will keep our eye out for usual signs the staff know how to make a real espresso.

The coffee was great, the service was wonderful. The food was darn good as well. Can't wait to try some more! The price is where it's at. Fairly cheap for the island, definitely an after beach stop in the future.

Perfect lunch venue It's home made, unlike Subway Breakfast served early Along the back stretch of 138 in Portsmouth, Anna D's cafe sits inconspicuously in the shadow of the Green Grocer and Fieldstones. It's a bright little cafe, and you won't feel like you're walking into a restaurant. The exposed beams and wooden tables make you feel welcomed, as if you've stepped into someone's country kitchen and have just been offered coffee. Anna D's is fantastic, one of the best places to stop on the island to avoid the lunch crowds at Applebee's, Subway, etc. Their wraps and panini's are pretty substantial, and made on the spot so it's easy to customize. The menu can be a little overwhelming with the novel recipes, but suffice it to say I've tried lots of things here and never been disappointed. Breakfast is served all day, and there is a small assortment of baked goods to compliment your latte. It can be a little on the pricey side ($8 for a wrap,) but you're going to pay that much to get pre-processed lunch somewhere else, so no whining. Everything is served with a pickle and chips to complement. Unfortunately, I'm a late lunch person, often not in the area until just before they close. I'd love to stop here more often, but the winter hours are prohibitive of my doing so. And yet, every time I drive by, I kind of want an Oven Gold wrap and latte.

First time I ordered the rajun cajun sandwich and it was awesome. Second time I ordered the rajun canjun and it just came with chicken on it...nothing else. I did not bother to take it up with the staff as they look to be under the age of 17 and I really didnt want to get another sandwich with spit on it. The atmosphere is nice. The only complaint is that is that when you are done with your meals you can leave your plate and stuff at the table. Again those 17 yr olds dont go around and clean it up quickly so you may be sitting next to a table with plates, uneaten food, napkins, and drinks left behind. Not exactly appetizing. The second meal we ate there had a table of stuff left behind that didnt get cleaned up until half way through our meal. The place is a small size and in the summer can be really busy. Price wise this place is pretty expensive. You will pay around $10 for a panini, chips, and a drink. Which seems a lot when it is a 17 yr old behind the counter who cant remember which customer ordered which meal or to clean the tables. So why 3 stars? Well for the price they should clean up the tables quicker. The food when done right is a 4, however the unprofessional attitude of the kids working there really kills it for me. Edited: Went again and my sandwich was really great again. Im thinking the one time was a fluke or something. So now I edited them to be at 4 stars.

I've only been once but my sandwich was delicious and the (take out) service was great.

really excellent breakfast sandwich on a delicious croissant. all good ingredients. yum! coffee's not bad either, but not good enough for 5 stars :) cool country store ambience in a pretty location is a plus. very friendly staff, too.

I can only speak for the ice cream - but hello summer! We stopped while heading home from a long, sunny day at the beach and I cannot tell you how happy I was that we waited until we got off the strip. The ice cream here is affordable, ample and delicious! I got a small chocolate peanut butter for $2.95 which is basically three scoops (so big that I need a cup to hold the overage). It was divine. The chocolate was rich and it had just the right amount of salty peanut butter. Then I ordered the kiddie strawberry for $1.95, which is only for 12 years and under. The kiddie is the perfect small size and the ice cream had big chunks of strawberries in the mix. [Aside commentary on why Americans are so fat - we are forced to order more then we need due to age!] So good!

Delicious ice cream. Server was super friendly. Great ice cream choices. We'll be back!

Quaint little order at the counter cafe place with sandwiches and other random items for breakfast and lunch. It's fairly small inside, but you'll be able to get a table pretty quickly as the turnover is fast. I had the Ragin Cajun panini and a Coke and it cost about $10. The bread was more like texas toast that traditional panini bread, but I dug it. though I liked the crispiness of the panini and how stuffed with chicken it was, but the melted goat cheese combined with the pepper jelly made the sandwich really drippy and way too sweet. I usually like sweet sandwiches, but this one was way too much. I'd recommend using a harder cheese and cooling it on the pepper jelly, or use one that has more spice and less sugar. I'm not from around here, but I wouldn't hesitate to come back here and try another sandwich or panini.
(3)Charlie C.
Had called in a Ragin' Cajun panini today. It was ready when I got there 15 minutes later and the customer service was great. The sandwich was excellent but sweeter than I was expecting. The red pepper jelly was sweet not spicy, but again that was a misunderstanding on my part. I can't wait to try their other sandwiches!

This place sucks. It's terrible. The food is horrendous. The staff is mean. And if you believe all that, then I get the whole place to myself.. ..Woo Hoo, more for me! Love, love, love everything about this place.

We recently had Anna D cater a bridal shower for our daughter. Anna was extremely helpful and flexible when we jointly developed the menu, every item was delicious, and my guests absolutely loved the variety and tastiness of the food. We had a nautical theme for the shower and Anna even took the extra step of researching the correct signal flags to decorate the great-tasting cupcakes! Everyone commented on those delicious cupcakes. We will definitely be asking Anna D to cater again!
