I am giving this place a 5 star review based on two key factors. 1) the food has been consistently good for the last 10 + years, never a miss here. 2) I was going to give it 4 stars but my wife said, no 5!

Convenient at best. The pizza is okay, but it's really hit or miss. There are times where its very good, but for every good one we've had , we've also gotten one that's burnt to hell. The dinners aren't great either. The chicken parmesan was super rubbery. It wasn't edible. Same with the Chicken Marsala. Other dishes faired better. On the up side, the staff is VERY friendly. Not the best, not the worst.

TLDR: Placed an order for delivery over the phone, was charged upfront, delivery never arrived even though an hour past the delivery window they assured me it would arrive. 2 hours later they said that actually they had cancelled the order and never sent a delivery driver. No remedy or immediate refund offered; took 7 days for them to reverse the charge. I placed an order over the phone was told it would be delivered in 30-45 minutes. I called an hour later and the same woman who took my order said that the driver was already on his way and that he'd be there shortly. 30 minutes later I called again--"he's on his way still we just spoke to him." Keep in mind the delivery address was less than 4 miles away from this establishment. 2 hours later I called again and immediately the same woman said, "oh yea we cancelled that order." Me: "What...? but 30 minutes ago you said the driver was on his way and 30 minutes prior to that you said he was on his way, what changed?" Her: "We never sent a driver, we cancelled the order immediate." Me: "So you lied then and you never informed me of the cancellation, and now it's two hours later and you've already charged me upfront." Her: *transfers me to supervisor*. Supervisor: *very apologetic, offers to have friends in town deliver the pizza but now it's late in the evening and too late to wait for them to mess up again*. This is sad because I was a customer in 2013 and 2014 with almost no issues except for once they didn't cook the dough properly and everyone became ill.

The food is fine. The service is not good. There are definitely better places to get pizza.

Pasta bolognase was pretty good. Very cheesy. I've never had cheese in a bolognase sauce but it was still good. Meatballs were good, but it was hard to dicern if they were home made. I also tried friend marinara sauce. I'll be back to get some of that. It was really good.

My family usually go to dinner here on Saturdays. There is never a wait. We are seated quickly and the wait staff is great! I order the same every week . The chick pea salad with there homemade balsamic dressing. Delish! Highly recommend. The turkey club is a favorite of my step dads. He says it's the best he ever had! We love the atmosphere we can chat and enjoy our meal without any rush.

Poor customer service. I made a mistake while ordering over the phone. They refused to fix the order when I called back within a couple minutes.

When I get a good server and the food is on point this makes one of my favorite spots to frequent. Some servers just flat out suck, which is maybe why they cycle through most of their employees, every time I go there, there is new faces and some other faces are gone. But the servers that have stuck around that I've seen, always take care of me when I'm there. I have seen an overweight female waitress literally yell across a row of booths to the waitress that was taking care of us. Attitude and obnoxious. If I was new to the place, I probably wouldn't have returned. Because that waitress was horrible and it was unpleasant to have her voice yelling across my booth while I'm trying to place my order. Can honestly say I've never had a bad pizza, or boneless wings or salad. Their blue cheese dressing is so good. I put it on EVERYTHING. My favorite thing there is their burgers though. My only complaint was one new waitress came by my table and I told her I needed a new burger that the menu says they cook them all to medium and mine was burnt (literally could've been used as a hockey puck). She replied "it's too over cooked for you?" As though I was being picky and I replied with "no it's BURNT". I received a new burger on the same bun with my same fries.... I wasn't about to send it back again. So I dealt with soggy fries and bun. I have seen a decline recently. Seems like financially they are trying to cut corners with stuff like that. Hope it doesn't go too far down hill because I really DO LOVE their food.

Never a wait, the food comes out quickly so it's helpful when you have small children. The staff is always pleasant, the food is good and prices are fair.

It's not a good first impression when the server tells the host that it's not their turn to get assigned as they're looking at the seating chart. And it pretty much went downhill from there. Our server seemed in a hurry to get rid of us, even suggesting that we go down the street for dessert!!!???!! The only positive thing was that the food was good. I won't go back there again and won't recommend it to any friends coming here for work like we did.

This is one of my stops when I travel to Newport. I have been coming here ever since this was a converted gas station in the 90s. It has change over the years but one thing that has been consistent is the great food. As others have posted the large calzone is huge. Basically a good size pizza folded over. I usually get one and then take the leftovers for a next day meal as well. Will keep coming back when I am in town.

Delete review. Posted for wrong restaurant. Sorry.
The food is always hot, the waitstaff friendly, and prices compared to other restaurants in the area, reasonably priced. The delivery drivers are fast normally, and careful when needed. Keep in mind it is a restaurant not a fast food joint. If a mistake is made, they fix it, I've seen them bend over backwards, if a mistake is made, and you keep your cool, there is no end to how nice they are. Clean place, clean kitchen. And if you order delivery by day, mon-fri, there is no better driver on staff

We came here for calzones and they were really good. Huge, but good. Not incredible but not bad either. FAIR WARNING: the prices on their menu and their website are NOT what they charge you for the calzones. A small is $9.99 (not $7.49) and a large is $13.99 (not $9.99). And when you ask the person working why your bill is almost $30, he has no explanation and lots of stuttering. Poor kid was totally lost. Also, the calzones are literally small and large pizzas folded in half. They're laughably enormous. See photos attached and consider before ordering.

First time trying this restaurant after a few recommendations and was not disappointed. The place was clean and inviting, warm and friendly staff, food was delicious and large amounts for the good prices. Our waitress was so friendly and sweet, and the food was quick to come out after we ordered. I had the gnocchi dish and my husband ordered a specialty pizza, and all I can say is we found a new Italian place we will be eating at all the time. A must go if you haven't already!!!

Great Italian joint! Half price pasta on Tuesday's or Wednesday's, I can't remember. The prices are great, and the portions are more than enough. Check it out.

Not bad on a busy Sat night. They promised our table free garlic knots had to pay. Asked for pizza to be boxed as leftover. They trashed it. Maybe I was generous with my 3 stars. The marathon next say was good however.

A previous reviewer already brought up my biggest complaint. It cost $29 for two folded pizzas masquerading as calzones. When I brought up the prices advertised on the website totaling a cost of around $19, I was told the prices change when you create a specialty item. However, I am not sure what a specialty item is because the item I ordered is advertised as such: "Add your favorite stuffings or choose from our specialty pizzas and we'll make as calzone, baked to a golden brown. Small $7.99 Large $10.69" Nowhere on the menu does it mention an increase or extra charge for something considered to be a "specialty item." To be fair, it is a lot of food. I'm sure it will reheat well, but I will most likely try to avoid places with subjective and vague pricing.

I haven't been to Mama Leone's since I was a kid, but the place is literally a fixture on the rotary. This restaurant (unlike many in Newport) isn't going anywhere. And for good reason, because the food is spot on. I have been craving calamari for weeks and have been dissapointed a couple of times recently so I was a little hesitant when I ordered the calamari salad, but I read in a Yelp tip it was delicious. Definitely awesome! This is my new favorite meal possibly. Probably I'm gonna start having lunch here once a week just for the calamari salad. Lightly fried calamari, banana peppers, roasted red peppers, mixed greens and a sweet balsamic vinagrette dressing on the side. It's a huge portion and perfect for lunch. I've also been in search of a decent chicken parmesan sandwich and they hit the mark on this one as well. SpMama's I'm a fan! Note: Last time I was in the satellite radio was skipping like crazy due to foul weather. While I was waiting I contemplated taking my food to go because it was driving me nuts but once the food arrived it looked and smelled so good the crappy radio reception was worth it. I'm sure this isn't a common problem but like I said, the food was so good I didn't even mind :)eedy and polite servers...

I don't normally dine at Italian restaurants as a general rule. My standards are pretty high bc I am pretty good at cooking Med & Italian Food. I was staying close by. I was hungry but I didn't feel like making it a big dining production I read the Yelp reviews & looked over the pics & decided to stop in for a casual dinner. It immediately noticed the cleanliness, modern decor & great lighting. I was seated immediately by a friendly hostess. I decided on a booth in the Bar area since I was alone & could watch a bit of TV during dinner. I ordered a Stella Artois on draft. After looking at the menu of appys, pasta, grinders, burgers, & pizza, I chose a small Calzone with red peppers, blk Olive, spinach & ham. It came out quickly & piping hot with a ramekin of delicious marinara sauce. The crust was cooked perfectly: with just the right amount of ricotta, mozzarella, veggies & ham. I are 3/4 of it! I have to say, this is a great little place. Decor was very nice & inviting. Staff was efficient & friendly. Food was quick & delicious. I will be back to try the other menu items! Definitely recommended! : ) Salut!

I made the mistake of going back here due to its proximity after my first mediocre experience. I was misinformed about what the specials were on the phone prior to arriving, and the pizza this time was TERRIBLE. At first I thought it was you get what you pay for, but this is not true here. It is overpriced for what it is.

Decent Italian food for delivery. The drivers deliver on base:) I believe if I had the luxury to have a seat in the restaurant and eat the food would be excellent. So far I have tried the baked pasta, crisp salad, lasagna, and chicken piccata which I would order again. The mozzarella sticks i am not a fan of but I may be alittle bias because on they were delivered. A definite place to order italian food from for delivery.

My brother took my mother out for what turned out to be very bad experience all the way around. Even though the place was not busy, the service was slow and not good. in addition, my food had enough salt in it to choke a horse. Awful food. My brother's food was barely luke warm and it took FOREVER to get desert. When he asked why so long to get desert, the waitress said it was being made fresh. When he got it it was a microwave special for sure. Terrible meal and experience. This place had consistently gone downhill.

Very happy with the service greeter opened door for us and welcomed us. Was able to sample the wine before we ordered it. Ordered the suicide boneless very good, however, I like super hot these were not but they were hot and the flavor was excellent and we ordered the mama special pizza very good glad we checked this out, Cheyenne is an amazing person, what a beautiful smile

This place is terrible (note this is my first EVER yelp review)... the staff is short and rude, the food is not made fresh and served cold. Please STAY AWAY! My wife and I have reordered 5-6 times, thinking "we are too critical" now we have come to find that Mamma Leone ' s severe bad food ... and doesn't even care / prides themselves on it. .... Our last order. Good luck

My husband and I ordered a Calzone and Grinder (sandwich) from here last night. We ordered delivery and it arrived to our hotel room in about 30 minutes which wasn't bad at all. My husbands calzone was definitely big enough for the both of us to share and it was delicious. My Chicken Parmesan Grinder was disappointing. My chicken was dry and it wasn't very flavorful. I definitely will stick with pizzas and calzones in the future. It was a little on the pricey side too. We paid $30 for everything which I thought was a little on the high end for what we ordered.

We've had good and bad experiences at Mama Leone's. Last night was not one of the shining stars. Our waiter was definitely around we needed him, he could've just been a bit friendlier. My stuffed shells came out with clear markings of freezer burn on them. They tasted okay, I was just really disappointed. Could you at least pretend you didn't get them out of a bag and cover the freezer burnt parts with sauce? Because of my disappointment, we started to notice other things. Basically when you order pasta here, expect the meat products to be pre-frozen pizza toppings. The sauces are okay, but I feel like you could probably get similar quality out of a jar from Stop and Shop. Beer is hella expensive for someplace that's not right on Thames. We probably won't return, but its edible.

I just visited Mama Leone's for lunch. The calamari salad may be the best thing I've eaten in years. The salad was to die for. The calamari was sweet and tender. With the mixed greens and peppers, and that tasty vinegarette on the side was awesome. I also had the clam chowder which was excellent as well. Very nice staff and the prices are very reasonable. I'm here for another week from Florida and I will be visiting again.

We've ordered take out and have dined in numerous times... The verdict: Love, love, love that I can order a whole wheat pizza with eggplant and NO cheese and it comes out perfect every time. You can tell a good sauce when it can stand on its own without being smothered in cheese. My fiance orders the Chicago-style(he's from there) and he is simply hooked. I can't say enough about the quality of the food we've ordered and the absolute pleasantness of the staff; consistently professional and friendly. Very pleased.... p.s. delivery for pizza on Mondays between 4-9: You pay the dollar amount of the time you call..4pm=$4.00, 6:45=$6.45, etc. Not sure on the topping situation, but a damn good deal nonetheless.

Me and my husband are from Western Mass and when we go away we like to try local flavor. The fries are by far the best fries I ever tasted. The churico was amazing and not overcooked or very spicy.

I have to start by saying that the service here was absolutely horrendous. All our waitress did was give us a menu and take our order. It seemed another waitress was handling all of the tables while ours was hanging around in the back area of the place taking a break the whole time. We do come from New York, so maybe we're just not used to this kind of pizza, but it was a slightly upgraded Pizza Hut. I knew I was going to have heart burn from this stuff just by looking at it. We ordered the Hawaiian pizza, and something with meatballs on it. Way too salty, the cheese sucked, and the acidity of the sauce was just wayyyyy too high. They really need to work on the service here, I do understand the pizza is just...how pizza is around here, though. That's the last time we ever get pizza in the New England area. What a terrible idea!!

This place is supposed to specialize in pizza, but every aspect of the menu we tried was really super. I got the pasta rosa, some others custom-ordered a pizza, and another got a pasta with eggplant and a pink pesto sauce. Most people seemed to like the eggplant pasta best, but I liked my own, personally. Regardless, really casual vibes and quite tasty at a good price.

This used to be my favorite restaurant for a casual reasonable meal. But they have recently cut back on portion sizes, raised prices, and taken some of the best dishes off the menu. The Wednesday night pasta deal used to be a true deal but not anymore. They now restrict the choices of pasta dishes and clearly give smaller portions than other nights. Too bad. I never thought I'd say this but there are better options in the area for pizza and pasta. I will say the quality of the food is still tops.

Food was too expensive for the low quality. Wait staff acted like we were interrupting their chat time. Waitress paid no attention to table. Actually tried not to see that we needed silverware or drink refills.

Possibly the best pizza I've ever had. Holy pepperoni, I'm all glowy and happy! The waitress was lovely and attentive and personable. Really great place and they've only been in Newport forever. Oh and Wednesday night is half price pasta night!!!! See you there!

Ordered the calamari and a pepperoni and onion calzone. When they delivered it, the order got switched and they brought cheese sticks instead of calamari. The delivery told me as soon as I answered the door and said another delivery guy was coming with the calamari and he gave me the cheese sticks for free. So I gave him a little extra tip for a having a pre planned solution for the problem. Good looking out. Everything tasted good. I've never calamari prepared like this...lightly fried and mixed with chopped tomatoes, sliced banana peppers and olives. Pretty tasty.

Very disappointed with the Manager's lack of customer service!!! I have ordered the chicken parm several times before and not had a problem. This time the chicken tasted bad and had a rubbery texture. I called to let them know my meal did not taste right. Instead of being understanding, the manager kept arguing with me and insisting that I was wrong. She finally suggested that I put the meal in a paper bag so the driver could pick it up, and she could show it to the chef. I've never heard something so ridiculous from a delivery order! Clearly the chef had seen the rubbery chicken since he cooked it! Side Note: Pizza taste like Pizza Hut. I will NEVER order from them again!

Insane proportions! their calzone's are amazing and were very good. I ordered the Mama's special in a calzone (small) and yet I couldn't finish it all, place got crowded during the summer dinner rush. Love how its right outside the naval base too! I will indeed try this place once again before I leave naval station newport! I

Ordered food had it delivered as we were here in Newport RI vacationing last night wanted to give Mama Leone's a whirl for a quick dinner before we settled in for the night. Food was late calzone was burnt on outside Garlic parm chicken wings were flavorless way too greasy bag was soaked with grease steak and cheese bread was burnt so was steak. Had to give my Hubby 1/2 of my cold sub mozzarella sticks were cold. Overall and all of this for the low low price of $72.00. NOT HAPPY.

I placed an order for delivery at this restaurant. I ordered a buffalo chicken calzone because i had an intense craving for buffalo chicken! On the phone the young boy who picked up was very nice but I could tell that he was probably new to the staff because he didn't really know what he was talking about. I asked him if there was blue cheese in the calzone (which is a must for me) and he assured me that the calzone did contain blue cheese. 30-45 minutes later my calzone arrived from a not-so-friendly- delivery man. They DO include the delivery fee, so don't be fooled. My total came to $15.26, which I thought was a little on the expensive side. However I will say the size of the calzone did make up for the price. It was huge! I was only able to finish half. My problem with the calzone was that it was stuffed with 2 different kinds of cheese and hardly any chicken! There was no blue cheese on my calzone which was super dissapointing. I would have even settled for ranch, but they put a large amount of ricotta and mozzerella cheese in the calzone which i found odd to pair with buffalo chicken. I would not recommend ordering from here. Maybe if i ever get a hankering for a calzone again I will try a different type and hope for the best.

Ordered a grinder sandwich. It was seriously lacking in meat, sauce, cheese, and flavor. It was mostly a dry roll. It was inedible. The small amount of meat that was on the sandwich was poor quality. Ordered a pink lemonade and it was watered down and just not good at all. The place was empty at 8 pm on a Th night. Go figure. Which Wich has a grinder sandwich that puts this place to shame.

This place is great for family dining. Ambience is nice. Lot of space.we ordered for cheese pizza for kids salad and chicken pizza for adults. Order came on time and the serving staffs were very attentive. Bar is nice with TV. Overall a great experience !!

Get the pizza. I could not decide what I wanted and ended up with a chicken alfredo (which was very good) but some of my family members got pizza and I had some serious pizza envy. My mom was kind enough to let me have a piece of her pizza and it was delicious! I can't wait to go back and order my own pizza. They also give you bread sticks which is an automatic win in my book.
(4)
Mindy B.
Meh. We had take out pizza from here one week and it wasn't too bad. I kind of liked the popeye pie. The kids had cheese and my husband ordered pepperoni. We ate it, but by no means did it blow us away. We followed up with a meal at the restaurant a couple of weeks later. What a disappointment. The bread sticks were terrible. Seriously, who messes up bread sticks? The kids liked their meals, but my husband was unimpressed with his chicken wings. We will not be returning to Mama Leone's.

Probably the most disappointing night of the summer. We had a few friends over from out of state, and couldn't wait to share our one of our (use to be) favorite pizza joints. We ordered 2 large pizza's one Sicilian and one pepperoni and to put it nicely they both tasted and felt like cardboard. They were extremely dried and overcooked with no flavor. The only good thing that came out of this experience was we had good laughs watching our friends attempt to eat the pizza, let's just say after the first bite we had some broken teeth. At this point we have lost faith in the consistency of the pizza, and their stingy with their hole punching deals.

Hit up Mama Leone's on Mondays for their Beat-the-Clock Pizza Deal! Whatever time you call after 4pm correlates to how much you pay for a large cheese pizza! (Additional price for toppings). One of the best deals in Newport for sure! Probably my favorite pizza on the island. The cheese to sauce ratio is literally PERFECT. The crust is also nice and fluffy. I'd advise going ahead and getting a large pie instead of getting the individual ones and then just splitting up the toppings half and half. The staff is always lenient with my weird requests. Go if you can! It's great!
(5)
Ryan W.
They do a decent pizza and sides. I never eat in the building so I can't comment on service. They have really good deals Mon-Wed, although one of them is dine in only (half price spaghetti on Wed). I don't live close to this one anymore, but it's not far from some people i visit fairly often. When we're together we usually grab something from here.

On the return home from RI, we stopped in for dinner. My friends said it had the best pizza. The Pros: pizza had an amazing crust. The sauce was tasty. We ordered a plain cheese pizza, a meat lovers, and a bacon chicken ranch pizza. OMG!!!! So good! WE did order salad, which was fresh with firm veggies - tomatoes, cucumbers and leaf lettuce. The Cons: the service. It was a Wednesday night, it was crowded, and the waiters did help each other. However, the waiter was slow to clear dishes and refilled drinks. I'm sure the shear # of patrons had something to do with it. It was just busy, and more wait staff was needed. The manager was out there helping, which was appreciated. Overall....the food outweighed the service. Another place to go before heading home from RI. Excellent.

Love the pizza here, a popular spot. Sangria pitcher also a great choice! Suicide wings are reasonably tasty and juicy but not spicy, bring your habanero stash if you really want a kick. Stella on draft also a hit!

As a college student who is always craving food that doesn't sit outside in a dining hall all day, my girlfriend and I decided to try this establishment as an escape from Newport's otherwise dull lineup of food hubs. After trying other local shops in the area, Mama Leone's Pizza restaurant was next on the checklist before we go home for the semester. After craving some "grinders" and appetizers, MLP seemed like a relatively affordable alternative. And that it was. For less than $30 we got two "grinders," four potato skins, and some french fries. We sat down and gazed upon the delicacies and were astounded by the portion size. The grinders are rather large, and they offer a generous portion of French fries. This goes without mentioning that the potato skins simply looked yummy! Unfortunately, that's where the positives seem to end with Mama Leone, if that is her real name. It all began with our phone order from "Kara," who took our order. My girlfriend told me that "Kara" seemed rather unattentive to her over the phone and she often said "what?" Maybe it was just a bad day for "Kara," but she was not the most welcoming voice I've ever heard when placing an order. Moving on to the most important part, however, the food. As a connoisseur of potato skins over many years, I was gravely disappointed with the presented product. They looked scrumptious, but were nowhere near as flavorful as they appeared. If you're a college student and want good potato skins, go to Nikolas restaurant nearby! The same goes for the French fries, so I assume the potato is bland and unseasoned. The fries weren't even enjoyable to eat unless we doused them in oodles of ketchup! The only saving grace was the "grinders," as they were huge! We couldn't finish in one sitting, so leftovers are always a plus! They were good, although my turkey club was packaged as a mess! I was upset when I picked up my delectable sandwich, only to have it fall apart the second I lifted it off the paper plate. Anyways, Mama Leone's is nothing special, and the service wasn't that welcoming either! It's good if you want a late night run at a relatively affordable price, but between the flavorless potato based products and the average sandwiches, it is not anything that is "must have" in the lovely, Newport, Rhode Island.

Picked up to bring back to a hotel for in room dining with the kids. Large pizza: half cheese/half sausage & black olives. Order of Mama's pasta. We ate everything. Outside of town but worthy of the ride.

This is absolutely my favorite pizza place, ever. Everything is made from scratch and of course fresh. When you combine those two when it comes to food... there's a good chance your food is going to be amazing. I highly recommend the wings and of course the pizza. My favorite slice (or two, or three) of pizza has to be the Meat Lovers. Good portions of quality meats, but nothing too overwhelming. Their Monday deal is off the hook where the time you order a pizza is the price you pay. So if you phone in a 5:15 PM, a large one topping pizza is $5.15. Great deal!

Delish!! Love that you can get delivery on base. Nothing I've had from here is bad. Pizza and pasta are my favorite things! YUM!
(5)

Delicious, the pportions are great, the pizza dough and crust is perfect. Not too chewy, not too hard. The toppings are fresh. I've had the portuguese lovers and tuscano. The topping, cheese and sauce ratios are spot on. Consistently great food. Good deals and not overpriced.

Mama Leone's is a basic, quality family restaurant. The staff is attentive, accommodating and nice. The menu is standard American Italian fare, pizza, pasta, subs, plus beer and wine. There is a full bar on the other side. If you are in Newport and looking for a safe and convenient place to bring the family, this should be on the list.

Normally I stay away from restaurants out the front gate. However this place is legit. Mama Leone's did not disappoint. Good size portion at a great price. I will go back again before I leave town

In the mail the other day, I received a gift certificate from Mama Leone's welcoming me to the neighborhood and inviting me to try a large pizza for free! What a deal, right? Well, it is a good thing it was free because I can honestly say that Domino's pizza is better. I ordered a large wheat pizza with half pepperoni and half spinach. The dough was gummy and not as flavored as other wheat pizzas I have had. The spinach looked like it was just dropped on there in chunks and there was barely any sauce on the pizza. The pepperoni half was the only saving grace, although even that was not that great! Next time my husband and I want pizza, we will call Dominos! (Doesn't that sound sad?)

My wife and I wanted something "quick" for lunch so we could get some other things done and get back to our next appointment on the navy base at 1 p.m. Word of advice: DON'T go to Mama Leone's in search of a "quick" meal. Around 11:50-ish (I'm guessing - I didn't look at my watch then), we arrived and were promptly seated. We read the menu front to back, decided on our meals, and set the menus aside and talked for what seemed like several minutes. It was long enough that we started to wonder if we would ever see a waitress. While waiting, I got to looking around. Although they had just opened for lunch and there weren't many customers there, there were bits of food or trash scattered around on the floor. Oh, and my plastic menu was sticky - from what I don't know. Not the cleanest place. 11:56 - Without so much as a hello or an introduction or an apology for keeping us waiting, our waitress suddenly materialized next to our table and asked what we wanted to drink. My wife told her we were ready to order, and we placed our order for both drinks AND our food. On a positive note: Thumbs up for COKE products! My wife and I are coke-a-holics, and it seems like Pepsi has some sort of a mafia strangle-hold on Newport. It's been Pepsi everywhere else we have gone in Newport so far, so we were excited to see Coke on the menu for once. 12:03 p.m. Two cokes arrived. 9 minutes to get two cokes, seriously? 12:14 p.m. A cook or manager of some sort came to ask us what we ordered to make sure they were making our pizza correctly. Um... Dude... They are just now starting to make our pizza 18 minutes after we ordered??? 12:28 p.m. Food arrived at table, 32 minutes after ordering. I think the pizza was absolutely fantasticly delicious. LOVED the pizza. Then again, I might have been biased. I was so hungry by then I could have gnawed my own arm off. Based on the track record so far, we asked for the check right away and managed to leave by 12:42 in order to get back to our next appointment at 1p.m. So much for running any lunch-time erands. Thumbs-down for service. Thumbs-down for cleanliness. Prices were okay. Pizza was delicious - I would order take-out from them.

Great family Restaurant. Great food, we had a Sicilian with 2 specialty toppings and it feed the whole family. The service was great as well, every accommodating!

I come to Mama Leone's occasionally. As the daughter of a very picky eating mother, I am always looking for places to take her that she will like. Mama Leone's is one of them. They are always empty when we go, which makes me wonder how they stay in business, but makes the food come out super fast. I've had a number of different appetizers there over the years ranging from nachos to antipasto, all of which are good. I usually get a veggie pizza of some sort, which are always delicious. Service is mediocre, food arrives quickly though. Great place to come when your looking for a quick bite.

Enjoyed a great pizza tonight on the Monday night special. The time you call is the price you pay for a large cheese pizza. (E.g. if you call at 5:30, you pay $5.30.) It's a great deal! The woman who answered the phone was friendly and polite, and we ordered a large pizza with half sausage, half mushroom. No problem, the woman on the phone quoted us a price, and told us it'd be ready in ten minutes. After I got off the phone, it sunk in that the price was the time plus two toppings instead of one. I figured I'd ask them about it when I picked it up, thinking it was a mistake because I've never before been charged for TWO toppings when I've gone half and half on the pizza. You know, since there is only one topping's worth of stuff total. When I picked it up, I inquired, and was told (not by the friendly lady on the phone, but by a guy with a little attitude), "we charge for two toppings when it's half and half because that's how the back does it." Huh?! Ok - doesn't make sense to me but next time I will either order just one topping or at least get the two toppings over the whole pizza if I'm going to be charged for it! Luckily, the pizza was ready in the promised ten minutes and was delicious. Just beware when ordering toppings as you may be charged for more than you expect!

All I have to say is... $4 LARGE PIZZAS! AND there is no limit on how many you can buy! Call 'em on Monday between 4-9 pm, and the time you call is the price you pay per pizza. The pies themselves are pretty darn good too, crispy crust and tasty mozzarella cheese, and just the right amount of sauce. Wings are 1/2 price on Tuesday, too! And their wings are spectacular. Definitely the best thing on the menu. For those of you that like their veggie-to-cheese ratio a little higher, they have a great selection of salads as well, and homemade vinaigrette. The prices are reasonable for Newport, and the atmosphere is nice. Overall I'd say its definitely worth checking out if you live or work in the area, but for you vacationers, there are definitely better places to go.

Excellent food quality! decent pricing and a well rounded menu make this one of the best pizza joints in all Newport/ the state of RI as a whole i left very satisfied!

I've periodically found myself in Newport throughout my career, so I've been a regular Mama's patron since 1998. And perhaps there's some nostalgia involved, but I've always liked the place. Their pizza is quality (much better than Domino's or any other franchise) and their grinders are tasty. Monday pay-the-time pizza is a great deal, and a lot of fun. Mama's can fill the role of a decent italian restaurant or a casual pizza place. Any way you look at it , Mama's is a great place to eat. The downside: They serve powdered ice tea, which is just an abomination. I don't care if this is New England, powdered ice tea is objectively awful and should be eliminated from the human experience. Bottom line: If you find yourself anywhere near the Rotary at lunch or dinner time, Mama's is the place to go.

You cannot go wrong here. There are the various daily specials, which include the call your price pizza on Monday and half-price pasta on Wednesdays. And like any good pizza place, they deliver as well. This place is right outside Naval Station Newport and conveniently located on the traffic circle. There is plenty of parking in their lot and lots of space inside. They have booths and larger tables for bigger parties. They also have a bar as well. You'll find a wide variety of pizza, pasta dishes, and lunch specials for those that need to make a quick return back to work. My personal favorite is meatball and black olive pizza. There are other pizza options in the Newport area, but Mama Leone is the top contender in my mind.

I brought a large group from NAVSTA to eat here, and it was a wonderful experience. Joann, the owner was such a great host. Greeted us, and made sure we were happy with our service. Food was great, and ample, so you'll have plenty to take back with you. Highly Recommend!

Food is very good. I've had the Lasagna, Chicken Parm, Spaghetti Bolognese, and Baked Spaghetti all very good. Recommend going on Wednesday nights, pasta is half priced. Service is hit or miss. Prices are great.

This is the worst customer service I have ever had in all of Newport, Middletown or RI. I have been going to Mama Leone's since I moved here years ago, there have been mishaps here and there until recently. Now, I have called in orders 30 minutes before and gone to pick up only to wait another 20 minutes because they pretend it's the kitchen when really someone never sent the order. After standing around and being ignored and then getting nothing. Then the straw broke the back happened tonight. I Called in dinner, after working late only to have a women with the worst possible attitude answer the phone, then rush me and my order, and then end the call with sarcastic remarks. I was all done. I had the decency to call back and cancel my order. Don't bother with this place mediocre food and attitudes that are not worth the drive there.

Great pizza (The Mama Leone special). Really loved the crust and the large was on special today so a great price. Thought the greek salad was just ok (the feta was sort of bland). The wine by the glass was very reasonably priced and the waitress was just so very nice. With tip my wife and I spent around $30.00 which seemed quite reasonable. Would definitely return again.

Surprisingly good pie for a good price. Had a large Mama's Special (supreme) that tasted more home-kitchen than a chain delivery. These folks also do more than pizza - many pasta dishes, wings and salads.

Anybody who says that Mama Leone's pizza is just average is just touched in the head. I have tried pizza from all over the US and this place comes in second only to Chicago Fire in Sacramento, CA (that is some great pie!) On the east coast, though Mama Leone's pizza is a must!

My son and I found this great restaurant the night before he enter OCS.I liked everything about the restaurant from the monment I walked in. The service and food was excellent. We had the Greek salad (yum!), pizza, and lazagne. My son graduates in 4 weeks and I am taking my family and friends there for a celebration dinner. Can't wait!

Good food and reasonably priced. On Mondays they have a deal where from 4-9, the time you call is the price of your large cheese pizza (pay for more toppings). Definitely better than Domino's but not as good as some straight up pizza joints. Pasta and salad dishes are good. Real convenient place to go for lunch as they are pretty quick.

The pizzas are large, with a crispy bottom edge crust. The sauce is decent, toppings are moderate. The crust tends to be a little thicker than I like it, but not as thick as Pizza Hut. Nice atmosphere, bar area with TV's for games. There was a Sox game playing when I was there. Wait staff was very good. Prices are a little high, but that is the area. I will return.

Although I have had the pizza here I tend to go there for the pasta dishes and have enjoyed those each time I have been. The lasagna and baked pasta have always been good. It is a casual relaxed dinning and busier on the times you would expect. The wait staff has always been pleasant and pretty much on time with drinks and salads, appetizers. You should have no problems here.

I come here for work gatherings a couple times a year. The pizza is inoffensive; I like the chouirco and peppers and the buffalo chicken (with banana peppers) pizzas. My favorite item is the tuna salad grinder - no other sub shop I have tried toasts the bread to give such a good texture to a tuna sandwich.

Pizza is a famous Italian dish savored around the world. The entire credit for the popularity of Pizza in the United States goes to the chain of pizzerias all over the country. While the base and the texture of Pizza remains same across the globe, it's the toppings that differs from country to country. In the United States, you will find the top pizzerias serving pizzas with the toppings of mainly beef, bacon, chicken, ham, and sausage for the non-vegetarians. Other than these famous meat options, Pizzas with veg toppings such as mushrooms, pepperonis, garlic, tomatoes, spinach, etc. are also famous in most restaurants in the United States.
Irrespective of your locality, you will find a variety of different restaurants in your cities offering pizzas of all different types. Pizza is hot favorite among people of all ages in the United States. A large size pizza is enough to feed a family of 3 or 4 at large. Pizza is also the most preferred food whenever a group of friends is hanging out together. Pizza gained popularity in the United States after the American soldiers stationed in Italy returned from World War II.
Over the years, different pizzerias in the United States have developed their own respective regional variations. Pizza gained popularity as the iconic dish in the United States in the second half of the 20th century. Whether you prefer thin or thick crust pizza, you can find a pizza of your preference at the best pizza restaurants in your city.
Italian Cuisine
The immense popularity of Italian cuisine globally isn't unknown. You can find an Italian Pizzeria around every corner of almost every city in the United States. Not to forget that in every house, people enjoy mac and cheese as comfort food. But it would be wrong to believe that Italian food starts with pizza and ends with good pasta as this Mediterranean country has much more to offer other than these two dishes. In Italian Cuisine, there is a high use of fresh tomatoes, all kinds of herbs, great quality of cheese, all types of meat, seafood and fresh handmade pasta. Many find it hard to believe that Italians have been making noodles long back.
Italian and Greek cuisines are always mistaken to be same, but they are poles apart. The primary difference between the two cuisines is the use of cheese in most of the Italian dishes. Italians love to cultivate their own cheese and process them as per their food requirement. It is believed that some cheese is so expensive that cheese producers secure them in lockers.
If you are bored eating the same old pasta or pizza, you can try some of the authentic Italian dishes like Risotto, Polenta, Ribollita, Lasagna, Fiorentina Steak, Bottarga, Ossobuco, Carbonara, Focaccia, Arancini and Supplì. Another item which Italians love to relish every morning is a good cup of Italian Coffee. Once you taste a freshly brewed cup of Italian Coffee, you might not visit Starbucks ever again. Authentic Italian food is made with heart and soul, so go find a restaurant where you can relish Italian cuisine in your city.

I am giving this place a 5 star review based on two key factors. 1) the food has been consistently good for the last 10 + years, never a miss here. 2) I was going to give it 4 stars but my wife said, no 5!
(5)Stefan G.

(1)Chris L.

(4)Kyle G.
Never a wait, the food comes out quickly so it's helpful when you have small children. The staff is always pleasant, the food is good and prices are fair.
(5)Jean-Daniel V.

Love the pizza great pizza nuff said! No complaints here your typical pizza place done right.

If I could give this place is zero stars believe me they would have it. If I could give the negative stars believe me they would have that! We had ordered from this place twice once when I came to visit my husband and then again when I came to see him graduate. When we ordered from him when I visited the service was okay the food was okay nothing special. When I came for my husband's graduation, I was appalled at everything. First of all the person on the phone taking our order was very obviously not caring about a word I said. He was rude and rushing us. What we ordered and what we got our two entirely different things. I took pictures on my phone and when I have a minute to upload them I most certainly well. It was disgusting, my mother-in-law ordered Chicken Marsala Chicken sauteed with mushrooms in a wine sauce over your choice of pasta. $12.49. That is copy and paste it from the menu, how it says online. When we received it, after telling the person on the phone that there was a food allergy issue with gluten, The chicken was not sautéed it was breaded. Even if there wasn't a food allergy, the food was not what we had ordered. The sauce was gray and there was barely any of it not enough to cover all of the noodles that came with it. I ordered one of the calzones, which was extremely greasy and did not have the right stuff inside, and I was charged much more than what the menu quoted! when I called I was extremely polite, but I was told I was in correct that the chicken was as it was supposed to be. When I told him what it said online I was advised that they didn't update their menu online very often but that the chicken was as it was supposed to be. When I reminded him that we had been told that it was gluten-free he suddenly forgot what he was talking about and asked if I'd like to speak with manager. The manager was equally as rude advised me that they had a no money back policy. But the chicken was made as it was supposed to be at my calzone was priced as it was supposed to be. I quoted all the information online as provided and told him that I wanted my money back. Honestly if no one had been rude I wouldn't of been trying to get my money back but when you're going to tell me that I am wrong and talk down to me you better believe that I'm going to expect my money back. I was told that they would take down my number and have the manager call me the next day, I never got a call back from the manager. I called back the following day and once again was told I get a call back and still didn't. I have pictures of my receipt as well as the gross and definitely not sautéed chicken. I will attach them later, but I will warn you now stay away! The service is rude the manager and owner cannot be held accountable, their online menu is wrong and they admit it but do not correct it, and the food is disgusting. *** added pictures they are under the photos

(5)Kristine T.
(3)Margaret B.
Mediocre food, above average prices, poor customer service. Have given the place multiple opportunities, final fail.

(5)Cheryl C.
friendly servers - good food - but no one was at the door when we left - I think this is so important !

Great Italian joint! Half price pasta on Tuesday's or Wednesday's, I can't remember. The prices are great, and the portions are more than enough. Check it out.
(4)W B.
Not bad on a busy Sat night. They promised our table free garlic knots had to pay. Asked for pizza to be boxed as leftover. They trashed it. Maybe I was generous with my 3 stars. The marathon next say was good however.
(3)Chad P.

(1)Barbara S.

Good luck
(1)Frances L.

(5)Sarah D.
Me and my husband are from Western Mass and when we go away we like to try local flavor. The fries are by far the best fries I ever tasted. The churico was amazing and not overcooked or very spicy.

As A Local In Newport Rhode Island I Love To Come Into Mamas The Wait Staff Is Always Great Opening The Door For Us & Getting Us Seated Fast! The Service Is Always Great! The Food Is Always Hot & At A Decent Price! I Always Get The Pasta It's Hot & Delicious!!!!
(5)Roseann B.
(2)Hugh M.
(4)Frank R.
(3)Terri V.
Food was too expensive for the low quality. Wait staff acted like we were interrupting their chat time. Waitress paid no attention to table. Actually tried not to see that we needed silverware or drink refills.
(1)Lucy R.
Possibly the best pizza I've ever had. Holy pepperoni, I'm all glowy and happy! The waitress was lovely and attentive and personable. Really great place and they've only been in Newport forever. Oh and Wednesday night is half price pasta night!!!! See you there!
(5)Eric B.

(2)Chad E.
Mama Leon needs to improve on there pizza because it sucks. Mm only there baby pizza 6inch is good
(1)Medea D.
Excellent salad and pizza. The wait staff was outstanding. I'll be in the Newport are for a few more weeks and I will definitely be going back to Mama's.
(5)Gene A.

NOT HAPPY.
(1)Sarah B.
(2)T C.
(1)Joby C.
This place is great for family dining. Ambience is nice. Lot of space.we ordered for cheese pizza for kids salad and chicken pizza for adults. Order came on time and the serving staffs were very attentive. Bar is nice with TV. Overall a great experience !!
(4)Briana G.
(4)Mindy B.
(3)Rachel R.
(1)Dan J.
This is a go to staple for us whenever we feel like getting out for dinner. Great pizzas and beer selection. Great place for kids with coloring books and wifi for devices.
(4)Karis O.
It's great!
(5)Ryan W.
(3)Vetty P.
Excellent.
(5)Yo K.
Love the pizza here, a popular spot. Sangria pitcher also a great choice! Suicide wings are reasonably tasty and juicy but not spicy, bring your habanero stash if you really want a kick. Stella on draft also a hit!
(5)Mark T.
Excellent food in a very clean, simple setting. Will go again.
(4)cree l.
my favorite Italian restaurant when i'm in RI! The pizza is the best ever!

(3)Alon S.
When's there with my wife and 18 months baby. Great atmosphere and the server was great. We had the eggplant parm and the lasagna. The sauce was a bit salty but great otherwise.
(4)Aia T.
I love their chicken alfredo. Pizzas are fantastic and are on affordable prizes too!
(4)Aaron L.
Great food great service! Their Monday beat the clock deal is outstanding. With it being so close to the house it will be a great new restaurant to bring friends and family when they visit.
(5)Andrew D.
We went to Mama Leone's on a Sunday night when most other restaurants were closed. This place is a short drive from downtown Newport. We had pizza and grinders and were impressed with the quality and the price.
(4)Kirsten S.
Probably my favorite restaurant in Newport. The staff is always kind, never a long wait, comfortable atmosphere, and the food is amazing! Awesome apps and the best eggplant parm I've ever had. Restaurant is clean and inviting.
(5)Lee P.
Picked up to bring back to a hotel for in room dining with the kids. Large pizza: half cheese/half sausage & black olives. Order of Mama's pasta. We ate everything. Outside of town but worthy of the ride.
(4)Ed K.
Great deal!
(5)Kimberli S.
Delish!! Love that you can get delivery on base. Nothing I've had from here is bad. Pizza and pasta are my favorite things! YUM!
(5)Lacuna H.
(4)R P.
(4)Adrian G.
Normally I stay away from restaurants out the front gate. However this place is legit. Mama Leone's did not disappoint. Good size portion at a great price. I will go back again before I leave town
(4)Kelli P.

(2)Gillian R.
Great family Restaurant. Great food, we had a Sicilian with 2 specialty toppings and it feed the whole family. The service was great as well, every accommodating!
(5)Amanda S.
(4)Heather K.
(3)Chris H.
(3)Andre B.
Excellent food quality! decent pricing and a well rounded menu make this one of the best pizza joints in all Newport/ the state of RI as a whole i left very satisfied!
(5)Dave Z.
(4)Troy A.
Great food and service. I really like this place. Give it a try!
(4)Richard L.
(4)Erick M.
I brought a large group from NAVSTA to eat here, and it was a wonderful experience. Joann, the owner was such a great host. Greeted us, and made sure we were happy with our service. Food was great, and ample, so you'll have plenty to take back with you. Highly Recommend!
(5)James C.
Food is very good. I've had the Lasagna, Chicken Parm, Spaghetti Bolognese, and Baked Spaghetti all very good. Recommend going on Wednesday nights, pasta is half priced. Service is hit or miss. Prices are great.
(4)Jessica H.
(1)Steven K.
(4)Jon S.
Surprisingly good pie for a good price. Had a large Mama's Special (supreme) that tasted more home-kitchen than a chain delivery. These folks also do more than pizza - many pasta dishes, wings and salads.
(4)Michelle G.
Anybody who says that Mama Leone's pizza is just average is just touched in the head. I have tried pizza from all over the US and this place comes in second only to Chicago Fire in Sacramento, CA (that is some great pie!) On the east coast, though Mama Leone's pizza is a must!
(4)Vincent N.
Good food and reasonable prices. A great place for families to eat.
(4)Mimi R.
Can't wait!
(5)John F.
(3)Melissa M.
Used to come here at least once a week for the BBQ wings until they changed the sauce a year or two ago. Please bring it back :(
(4)Michael P.
Just finished a wonderful dinner of chicken parmesan. Portion sizes are out of control... good prices. Would definitely recommend for a casual, quick meal. Have great specials for lunch and weeknight dinners.
(4)Gary S.
(4)E C.
(4)Gabrielle P.
We only ordered delivery, but IT WAS AMAZING! I highly recommend the Hawaiian! This pizza rocks! Hearty, REAL pizza! WONDERFUL!
(4)Angel J.
The food here is ALWAYS delicious, no matter what you order (the steak pizza is incredible!!) and the service is stellar. HIGHLY recommend. Great for kids, also!
(5)Jason B.
