Italian Cuisine
The immense popularity of Italian cuisine globally isn't unknown. You can find an Italian Pizzeria around every corner of almost every city in the United States. Not to forget that in every house, people enjoy mac and cheese as comfort food. But it would be wrong to believe that Italian food starts with pizza and ends with good pasta as this Mediterranean country has much more to offer other than these two dishes. In Italian Cuisine, there is a high use of fresh tomatoes, all kinds of herbs, great quality of cheese, all types of meat, seafood and fresh handmade pasta. Many find it hard to believe that Italians have been making noodles long back.
Italian and Greek cuisines are always mistaken to be same, but they are poles apart. The primary difference between the two cuisines is the use of cheese in most of the Italian dishes. Italians love to cultivate their own cheese and process them as per their food requirement. It is believed that some cheese is so expensive that cheese producers secure them in lockers.
If you are bored eating the same old pasta or pizza, you can try some of the authentic Italian dishes like Risotto, Polenta, Ribollita, Lasagna, Fiorentina Steak, Bottarga, Ossobuco, Carbonara, Focaccia, Arancini and Supplì. Another item which Italians love to relish every morning is a good cup of Italian Coffee. Once you taste a freshly brewed cup of Italian Coffee, you might not visit Starbucks ever again. Authentic Italian food is made with heart and soul, so go find a restaurant where you can relish Italian cuisine in your city.

I'm not sure if I ate at the same place as everyone else. This place is outdated and the food was not good. Besides the service was awful! We never got refills on our drinks or water... The bus boy dropped off the food and the waitress never came back. We saw her tking an order at another table and I tried to flag her down she put up her finger as if to say one minute and then sent over the bus boy again with our check.... Uh I was just starting to eat my meal. The check was over 50 and we didn't drink or have apps that was for one pasta dish (penne pink vodka that was watery and had no flavor) and a margharita pizza... Seriously? Wish I went to trattoria Romano where our bill is consistently $60 including a glass of wine and the pasta is homemade!

Beautiful log cabin look but very family style environment inside. Felt waiter pushed the scallop special and we should've asked how much but didnt so our mistake. A mere $28.00 for the special which was ridiculously overpriced. Now we know why the waiter pushed it. This is not a high end restaurant so prices are just way too high. Would not go back. When it was Gabriellas years ago it was great. Miss it.

We had such a fun time here last night. The boss took us out for an Xmas party and I'm so sorry we were so rowdy, but work is stressful and it was great to let loose. I know we were loud and obnoxious. However our waitress was amazing! Not only did she put up with us but she was funny and personable. We have a crew that is very detailed in customer service and it was nice to have such wonderful service that we all took notes. Unfortunately I forgot her name but she's the one with super kind eyes and a sprig of dark bangs. The drinks are amazing (obviously) and everyone raves about the meals. We loved the veiw of the bridge, and it was decorated so nice for the holidays. Can't wait to return, this time a more quieter date night.

My bf and I went here after we had an event and we were hungry still. The waitress was very nice and attentive. The food however was horrible. My bf had chicken parm. The sauce was burned. Tasted horrible. If u have ever had burned sauce that sticks to the bottom of the pan and try to save it - yea that's exactly what it tasted like. I had the chicken florentine. Frozen bland spinach with grizzly chicken. Moral of the story won't return. I felt bad they the waitress had to serve this food since she seemed so sweet.

Waitress was very helpfull at first then dissapeared during the night. We had seven of us for a vacation dinner and was thirsty after a long beach day. We flagged down another waitress to help with drinks and our waitress finally showed up later with our meals. Then came back at the end and a couple of us compained about the Pizza which you could either find the same one or better in the frozen section at Stop & Shop. And the mussels that were in the seafood dish tasted like they were used on someone else dish last night. Once we told the waitress she dissapeared again and did not offer any customer service. And the manager told my wife she does not know mussels. And we had do find a different person to pay our bill at the front door. Dont waste your time or money here.

Stopped in here for a drink on the way home great service and really cool inside. It looks just like a log cabin with a great view of the Newport bridge. The pear martinis were fantastic thank you so much!

The service was good, the view from 2nd floor was great, but sadly we found the food almost inedible due to too much oil and butter. Do not recommend.

Absolutely love this place. The food is always freshly prepared and plenty of it. A favorite is the Veal Parmesan. The veal is lightly battered and the sauce is outstanding. Not too acidic. The fresh bread provided is paired well with olive oil and seasoning. Don't forget to leave room for dessert. The homemade lemon cake is enough for two. Enjoy a nice cappuccino or amaretto with it.

This is a pretty restaurant in a log cabin with a slightly blocked view of the distant water. It's a nice place. The first time I came to this restaurant, I had Eggplant Florentine that was literally the best eggplant I'd ever had. Last night, unfortunately, was not a repeat experience. We had a waitress who was pretty, but though she exclaimed how the restaurant was sooo slow, she was very unattentive. She was let's just say, not quick minded. She asked how our meals were the instant she set the plates on the table and never came back. We had to flag a kitchen helper to help us get some water. By the way, when the kitchen helper assisted the waitress in bringing our dishes, she held a dish over the table and said "Carbon? Does anybody have Carbon something?" She meant carbonara sauce....it was actually quite funny. Too much sauce on the eggplant, undercooked and instead of a light lovely layered dish it looked like a football. Both my dining companions had "eh" dinners -- one had chicken parmaigana which was okay, but drowning in sauce. The other "carbon" Carbonara was also swimming in too much sauce. So, not good service, not good food and $30 each......not great.

I ordered a steak, cooked medium. It came out literally raw in the center. I sent it back. This time it came out literally burned black on the outside and very well done inside. The waitress showed almost no concern when I showed her how bad it was and that I couldn't eat it. She talked to the manager. The manager offered to take 10% off the price of that meal only, even though I had obviously not eaten any of it. Needless to say, it was definitely the worst steak that I've ever been served in a restaurant. The bottom line is, every business makes mistakes, but it's how the mistakes are handled AND corrected that show you what type of people are running the business. Catarina's Italian Village Restaurant FAILS impressively in the customer service dept, at minimum.

Nice off-the-beaten-path, friendly, Italian restaurant with a pleasant, relaxed atmosphere and very good food. I thoroughly enjoyed tender Chicken Marsala served over a mountain of piping hot linguine. (The Marsala sauce could have been a bit thicker, however.) I was with a large party, and we were seated upstairs. Kudos to our server who worked her tail off all night running up and down that staircase with all the appetizers, drinks and entrees.

Stopped by Catarina's on the way back from Newport only to find great Italian food and very relaxing atmosphere. Very highly recommended.

Great authentic Italian. Some is Americanized for tourists, but mostly quite Italian. I have had many dinners here with many guests. We've always been quite happy. The dinners are generous and delicious. The waitstaff is highly professional. I've never waited long, always seemed in step with our dinner orders. Great deals for two. Sauces of your choice on anything you like. No worries for special needs, always carried off very well. Nice view on a clear day. WIntertime is always a warming treat! Summer can be a little crowded, so if you have a large party, call ahead, they have extra rooms.

Waitress wa friendly and the food was great, especially for the price!! The lobster ravioli was out of this world, and the garlic bread was just like my grandfather makes it. My husband had the chicken piccata and was wowed. Stay for dessert and have the cannolis, made in house. Great find, going back there soon!

I almost do not want to write this review because I do not want to see a big influx of tourists hitting on this place! But you have to give credit where credit is due and Catarina's is the bomb! Years ago, Italian Village was the best damn real Italian restaurant in SoCo. Well they closed up shop and moved it over to Catarina's. It has everything that anyone could be looking for! They are so user friendly! They have an app special, $5 apps. or 3 for $12; sometimes thats all you need (and the apps are awesome). But if you want to go for a dinner....beware!!!! You will never finish what they give you!!!! And the quality matches the quantity! Tonight I ordered the fruitte de marie ( excuse my spelling). I fed like a tick, and when I was stuffed The bartender had my leftovers wrapped. I am telling you my leftovers are good for another 2 meals easy! Anybody who is down South County way has got to stop here! They deliver with both quality of food and their staff is so wonderful! 5 star all the way!

Poor food, poor service. They'd lost our reservation (yes, I did make one!), then they took almost ninety minutes to get our food, and it was terrible. This place is a shambles and best avoided. Yes, everyone was apologetic, but they couldn't make up for the complete incompetence of the service and cooking. Less students on staff would be good, but wouldn't change the food. Nice, homey environment, but that's about it, I'm afraid. A complete waste of money and time. Never again.

I can't remember a better Italian meal from salad to dessert , including service, that I've had anywhere! My mussels/shrimp marinara over pasta was perfectly cooked. My wife had the steak with sliced portabello mushrooms cooked to her liking. She raved about the rosotto. The owner is from Italy, and I think he cooks as well.

I am surprised at one review beside this one that I'm typing. I have had the waitress service and they can be slow as the previous reviewer has said, but they're ok. I have been eating a lot of meals at the small bar lately, because we enjoy the conversations with Rick or Mike and the fellow eaters at the bar. Now for the food. I have had mostly the veal dishes as you can see, with a few exceptions. The veal dishes are absolutely delicious with my favorite being the Saltimbocca. The Veal Piccata is veal with lemon but the lemon flavor was a bit weak. Veal Ala Roma with the Portabella mushrooms and sun-dried tomatoes is excellent. Veal Marsala is superb. Linguini ala Vongole, that's with clams (I had red sauce) was blah. Not many clams and the red sauce was watery. Sole Lazio is lightly breaded filet on a bed of spinach and is very good. They serve Peroni on tap (italian larger) and also have Lemon Cello. A very good selection of Italian wines. STILL A FINE PLACE AUGUST 30TH 2011
