Fantastic food, great people to work with. Just did a family reunion with Becky's BBQ, and got raves all around. Pork, Chix, two kinds of sauce (trad. and more vinegary) cornbread, beans and slaw. All were outstanding. Slaw esp so - "best I've ever had" from a FEW folks. And the staff couldn't be friendlier or easier to work with. Def. do it again- and so should you!

It's not a big restaurant but their food is dope! My husband loved the rib slabs and i had a sumptouos chicken thigh..

Not bad, but certainly not great. Ordered rack of ribs to go... Was served wrapped in cellophane, cold, with cold sauce on the side! Seems like they were just pulled from a smoker. Meat was on the dry side. I'll stick to Outbacks for my ribs!!!

Fast friendly service, two plentiful sauce choices. Good prices and open Sunday evenings. Enjoyed the baked bean side, but the slaw was just ok. Seats about 18, recommend take out if you bring the family. I'll be back for sure.

We were on our way to the movies and in a rush...this place was so good and so quick, small but cute. My husband is from Kansas City and me St. Louis and we definitely approved of the pulled pork sandwich, the corn was fresh and the potato salad tasted like my grandmothers! The cornbread melted in my mouth, definitely will visit again, especially for the price!!!

I thought the BBQ was good, not great. I did, however, love the house restaurant atmosphere. I. Always enjoy those types of places. I've had a lot of good BBQ over the years in parts of the country known for their BBQ. Becky's holds up well enough against that competition, and surely stands out for a east coast BBQ joint. Good, but not the best in my opinion.

Loved this place. I'm a Navy guy from Oklahoma and got a sudden craving for BBQ, and found this place on Yelp! Just a stone's throw from base, but I'd drive farther for BBQ like this. The dining area has a homey, "mamma's kitchen" feel, with 3 different sauces on the table for you. Cool country decor, but I promise all you'll be thinking about is the delicious BBQ aroma coming from the kitchen. I had the BBQ pulled chicken dinner. It comes with a generous portion of meat, 2 sides, and cornbread. I had beans ands shed potatoes. Chicken - unbelievably tender, juicy, perfectly smoked, and plentiful Beans - not a huge fan, I'll try the coleslaw next one Potatoes - REAL. What other restaurant takes the time to peal, slice, boil, and mash potatoes. So good. Cornbread - soft, and sweet! This is my first restaurant review, but I promise I'm not just being generous -- this place is awesome!

Buried Gem: Great Food, Service And Prices, But The Atmosphere/Parking Could Be Better. We found this place through Yelp and came here for lunch. The restaurant is tiny and the parking lot is small, but these are really the only drawbacks of this place. The food is excellent and the service is great. One last note: you have to walk through the kitchen and storage areas to get to the restrooms, and I am happy to report that the place is immaculate (clean). We will definitely come back next time we are in the area.

I've returned several times since my first visit and this place has become my go-to place for pork ribs. I try to support local businesses. The service, price, and quality of the food here makes it easy.

Pulled pork was fantastic. The ribs were great also. Polite and friendly. Quaint place. Highly recommended

I can't say how this compares to real southern BBQ because I'm not a big big fan of BBQ and haven't really had it, but I think it's delicious! I went for the first time really, a few weeks ago and literally craved it the entire week after. Which we went back again a week later. I got the pulled chicken and put both sauces on, the BBQ and the vinegar based one. I'm not big on BBQ and didn't like the sauces separate but together I found it was perfect. Sweet and tangy! The chicken was moist and tender. Best pulled chicken I had! The corn bread was so good. Again I'm not big on cornbread. For me it can't be all dried out. It had just enough sweetness and wasn't all dry. We got extra to go. I've heard people complain about portion sizes but to me, it's just perception. If you out their food on a ceramic plate say in like a 99 or chilis, the same portion, you'd prob be paying 2 extra dollars and be like "wow such a big portion". So I think the portions are fine except that it's so good, I just want more! The reason I gave 4 stars not 5 is because the second time I went, the guy taking our order looked miserable and wasn't very customer service oriented. I felt as though we were burdening him with our business, by ordering food. The first time I went though. The guys working were pretty cool and laid back.

Decent BBQ. The "pulled" meats appear as though they weren't off the fire that same day. The ribs could be great, but they keep the "silver skin" on the ribs which makes me think they are smoked and stored a day or two if they don't sell. Please remove the silver skin prior to serving. Very sweet baked beans should almost be mixed with the very vinegar flavored coleslaw. "Smashed" potatoes lack real flavor. Throw in some salt, garlic and a touch of butter and they can become delicious. Finally(and it's a personal preference), when I order bbq, I would love to see an offering of a homemade mac n' cheese. If I'm skipping veggies, I want to do it right.

We really don't have many BBQ options here in the ocean state so I was eager to give this one a try. Luckily we were in the area because if I had made a special trip I would have been very disappointed. It is a small place with only a few tables so don't bring a big crowd. I ordered the pulled pork dinner and the hubby got the pulled beef dinner, save yourself a couple dollars and just get the pork because they tasted almost identical. I got the three bean bake which was good, but had an almost asian teriyaki flavor that was unexpected. The food wasn't amazing, but it wasn't bad either . . . just a little underwhelming I guess. Except for the cornbread!! The cornbread was delicious, a big hunk of moist buttery heaven. Portion sizes were decent and the prices weren't too steep. I probably won't go out of my way to eat here again but if I'm in the area and hungry I wouldn't avoid it either.

Absolutely delicious. We got takeout two 1/2 chicken dinners (for under $20) and loved it. The chicken is smokey and moist and really yummy (not drowned in sauce) -- plus their side BBQ sauce (I had the sweet one) was the perfect complement. Good cole slaw, good smashed potatoes...all in all, a really good meal. Oh, and the cornbread is to die for....a wonderful find!

Don't make the same mistake I did, make sure to get the pulled pork. Although the bbq chicken leg I had was good, When I tried my sister's pulled pork sandwich I realized that I had made a mistake. This place doesn't look like much on the outside, and it isn't much on the inside. It has a cozy southern grandma feel to the decor.

This is one of my favorite places when I am in town for travel. The food is consistently good. The three bean bake is my favorite side. Manage your expectations. The dining area is small and crowded as it is in a converted house but if you want good food at a good price, this is for you.

Awesome place. Pulled beef was amazing. Added a little vinegar sauce and bam, it was unbeatable. I honestly couldn't believe I found this in Rhode island. Great bbq, nice atmosphere, and cheap. Can't wait to go back and get the pulled pork and pulled chicken.

Lunch portions were a little bit dissapointing but for around $5.50 I can't REALLY complain. I'm sure the dinner portions would be more satisfying but I cannot speak from experience, YET! The Three Bean Bake is amazing. The cornbread is even more amazing. Had pulled chicken with the regular BBQ sauce. They offer three sauces, regular, spicy and a mustard blend. The spicy sauce is thin, I prefer the regular. Did not try the mustard one.

On our way down to Newport the other day we decided to stop into this place because we'd heard they earned the "best of RI" for BBQ. I hear southern Yelpers snickering wondering what if anything it means to be the best BBQ in this tiniest of states. It was certainly an unassuming place as we pulled into the parking lot. More like a house from the outside and very tiny on the inside. We saw right away that many folks stop in here to get take-out. The take-out business was brisk throughout our visit. We found a corner table after ordering from a very friendly man at the counter. Counter ordering is never my favorite but this was doable. My husband got the pulled beef entree that came with two sides. He chose potato salad and beans. I chose the smaller lunch option of pulled beef. The lunch portion comes with one side and I chose the smashed potatoes. Both dishes came with cornbread. Our food came out in a surprisingly short amount of time which isn't always a good thing. What I first saw on my plate looked a bit forlorn and unappealing at first sight to be perfectly honest. However upon tasting the pulled beef, I found it to be succulent and flavorful. There are several sauces on the table. I do not believe these are house-made and they were really only just okay. I found my dish was just fine without adding any sauce which is always a good sign. The smashed potatoes were creamy and delicious. The portion size was adequate for me for lunch but for my husband, that portion would have seemed meager. He thought his pulled brisket entree and sides were very good and the portion size was to his liking. Some of the other menu items include BBQ chicken and ribs and several other side dish options. This is a cute but no-frills kind of place; you are served on sturdy paper plates with plastic utensils. There is no liquor license. Beverage choices are slim and consist of bottled water, sodas and sweet or unsweetened iced tea. The place has maybe 6 tables and it filled up soon after our arrival right around lunchtime. Prices are very reasonable. There is a clean unisex bathroom but you have to navigate through the kitchen and down the stairs into the basement to find it making it awkward to get to. I thought this place was pretty good. I'd probably return to give it another go if I was in the neighborhood but after just the one visit, I'm not yet ready to rave.

This small BBQ place is great, prices are realistic. The pulled pork is good on its own or accessorized with their sweet thick sauce, the pulled chicken is juicy and accented perfectly with the vinegar based North Carolina sauce. I like that the cole slaw is chopped and vinegar based not mayo covered. I like the big hunk of corn bread they give you with the meals. My boyfriend is from the south so nothing in New England can compare for him, he said it needed to be smokier, and more heavily seasoned, but for northern BBQ he cleaned his plate so it must have been good. The staff is friendly and helpful, the food came out quickly and we were on our way with full bellies!

Mediocre at best. Barbecue sauce from a can, small portions. Expectations were high going in because of suggestions from co-workers.

One word somes this review up, disappointing! I came in for lunch a month ago. I always drove passed it and saw that they were award winning, blah blah blah. So i was up to see what the hype was about. I am a huge fan of BBQ and was anxious for the oppurtunity to present itself for me to eat there. I go in and look over the menu. Ask the waitress for a pulled pork sandwich. It was not busy so i thought it would be quick. It was quicker than i expected. The pick up the sandwich and bite into it. Not only was it mediocre, the bun was cold and the meat was luke warm. Smh A waist of my time and money. Seems like they pulled the bun out of a plastic bag with other cold buns. The meat really did not have any flavor. I had to drench it in BBQ and hot sauce to give it flavor. Granted there was a lot of meat, it was not fresh. I wont be trying anything else from here.

Found this BBQ joint by coincidence. I was buying pastries next door and it just smelled so good! I happened to be craving some bbq and decided to give it a try. As soon as as you're by the front door you can smell the smoke! Went in and ordered the dinner plate with the BBQ Pulled Beef ($10.25). All dinner plates come with delicious cornbread and two sides. As the sides I got the Becky's Three-Bean Bake and the Niblets Corn. The pulled beef was so tender and smoky! I wish it had more sauce though. The corn was so sweet and buttery! The bean bake was quite different. It sort of had a sweet and tangy flavor to it. I liked it because it was different. And the cornbread, DELIGHTFUL! It was so fresh and moist! It had real corn mixed in and just the right amount of butter to not make it greasy. GREAT BBQ!!! Definitely recommend it to anyone craving some great bbq. They have such affordable prices for food that it'll make you want to come back 3 times a day! P.S. I actually went back a couple of hours later to order the same plate! It was that good!

A small little place to eat great BBQ! They have a pulled pork, pulled chicken, pulled steak and 3 different BBQ sauces! There is a sitting area but it's not a big restaurant. You order your food, grab your food and take a seat! I had tried all three meats and they were delicious!!! If you want excellent BBQ you have to try this place!!!

Very tasty bbq ribs. Loved the potato salad and corn bread too. Ambiance was rustic-country-ish. Outside seating is like having a picnic.

Boyfriend and I stopped by here before heading back to Boston for lunch. We both got a pulled pork sandwich, I got a small and he got a large. He's in the military and always missed Mississippi pulled pork (back when he was stationed there). For me, I didn't really care much about it. He said he liked it and came close to Mississippi so for all you folks who have southern food, craving for it, and in the area, give this place a try. It is their speciality. Inside is small. A few tables. If you can't get a table there, you can always order to go. Prices aren't bad but I expected more. I'm actually surprised this place accepts credit carda. Usually restaurants like these are cash only.

I went here yesterday to take a break from cleaning up the yard. I got the rib tips, potato salad, and beans. it also game with corn bread. They gave a small side of bbq sauce too. The ribs were yummy. They gave me a lot of them. I ate the first few without the sauce (I didn't remember it was in my take-out box). The beans were really good! They were unique. I think there may have been lima beans in them (which is great, because I love lima beans) although if we are honest, once you put sauce and bacon in beans you can't really tell what they are. These were good enough that I would get them if i needed a side for a potluck and didn't have time to make it. Same with the potato salad. I don't usually like potato salad much, especially when it has a white base, but this was good. They used nice seasoning in it. The cornbread was not as good. It was warm but clearly had just been reheated. It kinda seemed bisquicky and light. I like my cornbread to have a little heft. Overall, I think this place is tasty. My dad is a chef and I may take him here when he comes to visit (when we get tired of seafood). I also thought it was a good price.

I've eaten at Becky's several times over the years and have never had a bad meal here. the restaurant itself is small, about 6 tables and very cute inside. their menu is average sized for a barbeque restaurant, half chicken, pulled pork or pulled chicken and also a beef and ribs, I believe. They had a few sides to choose from too. The smashed potatoes are awesome, cole slaw is good as well, their baked beans are different, not the baked beans I'm used to, but they were good, corn and also, cornbread. I would go in there just for the cornbread, its that good! you also get 2 different types of barbeque sauce with your order.. the thicker of the two is the milder one, but both of them are excellent. They also have a small variety of drinks including sweet tea, which is pretty much like the sweet tea from the south, and a small variety of desserts as well. The key lime pie is excellent. most of the time I do take out, service is always fast and efficient, the order takers are accurate and cordial, but not overly friendly which is the reason they get 4 stars instead of 5. i'll keep coming here as long as the recipes don't change!

It's a quaint little place only six tables. The price are great and the food is delicious. If I lived in Rhode Island I would come back all the time. Or more likely knowing me I would call ahead and get a lot of takeout. Everything is homemade. And everything taste like they put the best ingredient in it love.

We have used Becky's for 2/3 years now for catering a pig roast and love it! Everything from the pulled pork to the side dishes was great! No complaints at all and great service! If you are looking to cater an event, Becky's is a great choice!

This really is a no frills kind of place, parking is in the back and you can only get in via the back door. Service is okay but thats not why you go to a BBQ place. I had the ribs, the slaw and the beans the beans were okay the slaw not my thing was a bit bland and had too much bell pepper in it for my taste but the ribs, the ribs is why you go to this place. They fell off the bone and were moist and so flavorful. Truly some of the best that I have ever had. The prices were very reasonable as well. I will be back for both dine in and take out.

Yummy!! The BBQ is simply yummy! It was our wedding weekend in RI and the hubby and I wanted some BBQ. This place was right around the corner from us. It's in an older looking house that looks a lil shady from outside. The parking lot is small. Once we got in, we were not that impressed with the menu, but a lady in front of us was giving us ideas as to what is great BBQ. Well, overall we got a pulled chicken sandwich, 1/2 rack of ribs, coleslaw, cornbread and smashed potatoes. We were licking our fingers! Simply amazing yummy delicious BBQ. Only reason I didn't give 5 stars was because the older gentleman taking our order was a bit snooty and unapproachable. Didn't even get a smile out of him until he saw my T-shirt say "bride." Then proceeds to tell me I'm not a bride until I'm officially married. Hence, our wedding was 7p that evening on second beach in Middletown, RI.

This place is great! We took an order to go (a member of our group was in bed with a back injury). They were fast, patient, completely delicious, and SO budget friendly. You basically choose meat, platter v. sandwich, lunch/dinner portion, and side (if you got the platter). I had the pulled pork, smashed potatoes, and corn. The pork was great with the house BBQ sauce, and just-right on lunch portions. The corn was super fresh and the potatoes were hot, comforting, and delicious. I'm not a huge cornbread fan, but it was sweet and not dried out. If you eat in, there is a very woodsy vibe, with about 7-8 fourtop tables. 3 meals were under $15, which almost made me feel guilty!

Becky's BBQ is a special place. Everything has a distinct flavor: the rib meat is always perfectly cooked, and their sauces (a thin spicy and a thicker sweet), whether added individually or mixed, are well worth the trip here.

Good food comes at a price. Apparently they like to butter you up with their delicious ribs and then steal from you. I ordered myself takeout from here Thursday 4/27. I picked up my food, left a cash tip and paid with a credit card. When I signed the card I signed for the total on the receipt, no extra tip given the cash. Mind you this is take out and I threw 3 bucks their way. When the man running the counter took the slip I noticed him make a face. Wellll of course now on my bank statement I was charged an extra $3 . Being a small purchase I threw the receipt away so instead you get my passive aggressive rant. You lost a customer over $3 and you do business on an island. Brilliant plan loser.

  • John L.

Awesome, we did take out last night. When you feel like BBQ it's the only place on the island for REAL BBQ. We had the combos and a dinner, great value, portions where perfect. I can't say enough good things about Becky's.

Where do I begin? Pulled pork had little to no flavor, smoke or pork. Tasted like it was done in the oven not on the southern pride smoker! It is not a good sign when a BBQ joint covers the meat with sauce! Ribs were extremely light on smoke but tender. Makes me wonder if they were steamed and not smoked long enough? Sides were ok but they could not make up fir the subpar items. By KCBS standards this would not be even close to winning!!! I guess if you dint have competition the guests give you the benefit of the doubt???!!!!

  • Martin G.

Good, solid BBQ. We had pulled pork sandwiches which were good. Only thing though is that it seemed a bit "prepared" as the pork was in a perfect cube on the bun. Makes me think they meat is placed into containers to make sure everyone has exactly the same amount. While I understand it, it makes me think that everything is made this "precise" way which BBQ is definitely not. They have three sauces -- a sweet, tangy vinegar based, and mustard based. Sweet and mustard were my favorites. The cornbread is definitely worth trying. It's good. They didn't have any cole slaw, so I can't comment on that (they ran out?) but the cornbread was very very good.

  • Shane R.

At first glance, this is a quant restaurant giving off vibes of a comfortable home setting as there are few tables accompanied by old-style wall paper, trinkets, and the like. The menu is sized well and displayed on the wall and nearly everything on it is price point. Ordered the pulled beef dinner plate with smashed potatoes and three bean bake. The meat was tender and addicting to say the least. The potatoes were average. When it comes to baked beans these were some of the most original I've tried. With a smokey-flavor, three different types of beans, onion, and bacon it was hard not to fiend over. With each plate you also get a good portion of corn bread, which is incredibly moist and just a good compliment to every element on the plate. Becky's is a good enough excuse to eat barbecue and it's even better that it is a local establishment that has humble beginnings and a loyal following.

Becky's BBQ is the type of place you'd expect to find on the side of a highway, somewhere in the South. It's good straight-forward BBQ, not great, but solid enough. Chicken was a little on the dry side, but the sauces are compatible. BBQ beef is just that. You'd never know that it was brisket. I didn't, I had to ask what type of beef it was. But, it is as advertised, and for the price point, you can't go wrong there. The highlight for me, not having tasted the pulled pork, were the ribs. They were pull of the bone tender and flavorful. Not real sure if there was even a rub on them. If there was, it was minimal. Again, a pretty straight-forward item, but certainly a quality rib. I agree with another review, that with a couple of tweaks, they could be a 5. They are really closer to a 3.5 rating at this point. Either way, if you're looking for some solid takeout or just looking to get your BBQ fix on, you've found the place. There's not much of an atmosphere, but that's not why you're going there in the first place. Chow down!

Okay, so being the committed Yelper that I am and wanting to make sure that when it comes to BBQ, I can speak of what I know, I have just returned from Becky's. Yes, I did this for you and no other reason...aside from the fact I am from the Great Republic of Texas. Anyway, I think this is a very safe bet. The food is great and the prices are really good. So, here is the deal: Ribs, fantastic. They are served dry, which is how it should be served, and your sauce is on the side. They have Tomato, Mustard and Vinegar based sauces. Tomato is best on ribs. Pulled Pork, looks strange, but is fantastic and is enhanced with the vinegar based sauce. Fortunately for me, it was not dry and was very moist. So given some of the other reviews, I might ask before ordering because dry pulled pork is horrible. The chicken is probably some of the best smoked chicken I have ever had. To the sides, the beans are different then what you would expect, but they are amazing. It is like a three bean thing going on with Kidney/Red beans, navy beans and of all things, Lima beams. I almost cried fowl at that, but was told to try them and shut up. Glad I did, but I wont shut up about them. They were amazing. The coleslaw is a pass. Not very good and not enough condiments to remedy. The corn bread is true southern style cornbread, moist and just a hint of sweet. Nothing like this 'cakey' stuff I am used to finding here in RI. They do offer 'pulled' beef. This may be a RI thing. I claim for the Republic of Texas this to be unnatural...but I did ask. It is just smoked brisket, as I suspected, and instead of slicing, they pull it. I suspect it is more chopped, which is allowed. Chopped beef sandwich is in the rule book. Anyway, this would be the place to go if you are in the mood for good stuff at a great price. Oh, PS. I had some of their pecan pie. They make is on site. So this was my first New England pecan pie. It is not like anything I have ever had. It seemed more like a big overstuffed pecan soft cookie. It was good/okay, but not what I would call pie. It was also a bit pricey for the size of the serving at $2.50. So take that for what it is.

Yeah, it's good. I feel it's really 3 and a half star worthy for these reasons - Pulled beef and pork were both very good, but I found the texture to be too consistent. It was almost like they used a slow-cooker to get these meats so soft. I know that's not likely, but whenever I've had real 'que in the past, the pulled pork/beef has some big chunks, some bark, and some strands. Becky's is all strands, no bark, no chunks. The flavor is good, actually really good, especially for around here. They have 3 sauces on the tables, a mustard base, a vinegar base, and a sweet bbq. They were good. I thought the cornbread was a little disappointing. It should have been served warm, and it was merely ok as far as cornbread goes. The sides options are a bit lacking - where's the collard greens? I think you have to have collards with real 'que. Coleslaw is ok, but it's that finely diced kind, not the slaw-y slaw, you know, with big 'ol shreds of cabbage and carrot. I will go back, and have other things for sure, but I think that Becky's is just missing the mark on a few things. If they could make a few small improvements, this would be 5 star easily.

Becky's is a local hole-in-the-wall type dive BBQ restaurant. Really, this is the way BBQ food should be presented, Texas style; on plastic tablecloth, with paper plates and cheap silverware. Highbrow BBQ is like a classy adult entertainer; unnecessary and unappreciated. Smoked locally, served cheaply, and full of taste; Becky's is a great take out spot to satisfy your BBQ needs. The pulled chicken and pork is the best offering here; couple it with some corn bread, smashed potatoes/potato salad, and corn for around 10$. For that price, it's truly a steal of a meal. The lack of a star is due to the ribs; not the best ive ever had, but still very good. Try both of the sauces; the north carolina sauce is sweet and has a touch of vinegar. (keeping true to the roots, i'm informed) The classic bbq has a rich smoked flavor that is good on everything they offer. (I would grab a bottle to bring home if they offered it) Find this place! it's disguised as a house thanks to RI's crazy zoning laws, and has parking across the street if it's full in the rear.

Only 4 stars because I've only been here once and so I can't know if the place is consistent or not. BUT when I did go, it was so delicious. I wish I had tried more things but I got the pulled pork platter and it was so good. Tender, juicy and the sauce was delish. Cornbread left a little to be desired. The atmosphere is definitely no-frills. Disposable everything- tablecloths, utensils, plates but I imagine that it keeps the prices down. I really felt like I walked into someone's kitchen to have a meal---this is a plus. When we went, we were the only customers in there but the weather wasn't that great. I imagine that it gets pretty crowded in nicer weather and because there's very limited seating.

Great place for a change of pace. Simple pulled pork sandwich and coleslaw is the best for lunch!

I just wasn't impressed with the pulled pork sandwich I got. It was dry and tasteless. They need some work in that department. Otherwise the place was clean and easy to find. The north doesn't have good bbq I have determined.

I lived in Atlanta for years and this is better than most places in the south! BBQ pulled pork sandwiches are to die for. It comes with Carolina style dipping sauce and BBQ sauce on the table. I usually frequent this place once a month when I need a fix of southern food. The last time I was in I finally tried their desserts and had the key lime pie.. oh, soooo good! I will always come back and recommend this place. One of my top 3 restaurants on Aquidneck Island.

Words truly can't express how great this place is. I try to come here every week for either lunch or dinner. The ribs here are some of tthe best I've ever had. And you can't beat free refills on fresh brewed iced tea.

This little hole in the wall is worth the effort to check out! They do a common southern style BBQ dinner and sandwiches. The staff are diligent and make an effort to do a good job. For the area, this is pretty good BBQ.

Well, I could be a bit biased as I have lived in Texas, Tennessee, and North Carolina, but I always try to be positive. I'm a southern guy relocated to Newport and was looking for a decent comfort food lunch on a cold day. I read some reviews on Becky's and was optimistic as it sounded tasty. The sauce and sides were decent except for the beans. They were warm and cooked well, but the flavor of the 3 beans seemed to clash. Could be a personal preference. Corn and cornbread were both pretty tasty. I ordered the half chicken and when I pulled a piece of the breast off it was cold in the middle. Not undercooked cold, but as if it were precook and then reheated once ordered. I'm no Bobby Flay but I'm pretty sure this is a no-no in the BBQ world. Probably wont come here again. Disappointed...

I loved it! My husband and I recently moved to Rhode Island from NYC and we needed some food after a day of unpacking. Were looking for a great place to grab a bite and boy did we find it. The pulled pork was delicious!!! All the sides were really great as well. Between my husband and I we tried the niblet corn, smashed potatoes, potato salad, cole slaw and beans. I will definitely be returning frequently!!!

Chicken and ribs last night. Not our first time from Becky's, always good. Get extra BBQ sauce.

Nice place and we will be back. So my wife and I are from NC, and are foodies. And we are big fans of Barbecue, especially pulled pork. So we went in there with an expectation of some mediocre imitation of real barbecue. But we were pleasantly surprised; Becky's did a pretty darned good job of replicating a Lexington style pulled pork. Now, I am more of a fan of Eastern NC style, without the tomato based vinegar sauce found on the Lexington style, but to find some well done pork, no matter they style, makes me a happy man. As a plus, they had a Eastern style vinegar and cayenne sauce on the table, in addition to their traditional molasses sauce and honey mustard sauce. The sides were also excellent, with some extremely good baked beans, complete with huge chunks of bacon, smashed potatoes that were creamy and flavorful, and some very good and moist cornbread. They had some pleasant enough potato salad, though it wasn't anything to write home about. And they had Sweet Tea!!!! It was a nice dinner, with some entertaining conversation with the cashier/server and other patrons, and some respectable barbecue. We will be back, and I will sample some other meats. So expect a new review following that.

Wow! I'm from Texas and this meat just might have to be a top contender for my last meal on earth! Plus, I don't even usually eat meat, last time I did was the day after I got married. Only reason I gave it 4 stars was because although the beans were good, it seemed like it was just kidney, baked and lima beans thrown into a crock-pot, the smashed potatoes were just ok. Hubby had the corn and that's just what it is (but it says it on the menu, I think) Oh wait! And they have SWEET TEA!! I thought that was going to be one of the things I missed about home, so I drank as much as I could before I got here and what do you know... We will definitely be back!

For a girl who doesn't love BBQ, Becky's is pretty great and my boyfriend likes to make sweet, dirty tongue love to her ribs and BBQ sauce. I'm not a fan of any of their BBQ sauces, but the quality of their meat is fantastic. I'm not usually a chicken fan, but even I can appreciate theirs. It's moist, it's crispy, it's well seasoned. Just all around good. Their pulled pork is really dry and reminds me of refried beans. Even though there a squirt bottles of BBQ sauce on the table, I still expect something that looks fresh, like it just came from a crockpot or something, not like it's been sitting out on the counter or under a heat lamp drying out. But who knows, maybe that's authentic BBQ? In any case, I don't want to hate too much because overall, most of the food is really great here, and despite my opinions, my boyfriend love, love, loves this place. The ribs are fantastic, as is the chicken. The coleslaw is vinegar-based and is a little strong for me, but my boyfriend loves it.

This is probably my favorite place to grab some lunch on the island. The service is friendly, the prices are good, the food is already cooking in the back so it's incredibly quick, and the food is really good. It's well worth the trip outside the borders of Newport to grab a bite here.

    (5)
  • Chris H.

Great 'cue. I've been here a couple of times, and I can tell ya that the ribs are fantastic. Hands down, you gotta try 'em. Mac and cheese is pretty standard, and the pie is good, although very small and a little overpriced. The carolina BBQ (pulled pork) is decent, although it could use some more smoke flavor (I can make better bbq in a crockpot). I do have a feeling that they do a lot of braising and maybe some pressure cooking in lieu of keeping the meat in the smokehouse for the whole cooking time. Definitely worth checking out, but I don't think it is the bbq mecca that some would describe it as.

  • J.P. E.

I can say this is pretty good BBQ for being in RI. The pulled pork is pretty good. I usually get the rib tips when I go for lunch, the serving size is pretty generous. I do enjoy the baked beans and fresh corn bread too. They also make southern sweet tea with corn syrup not sugar - which I hear is the true way to make sweet tea. If you live or work in the area ask for thier meal deal card - i think its "buy 10 lunches get one free" or something like that. I'm on my second card now...

DUH-LICIOUS! I have been coming here for the past 6 years since we discovered it, and when I took my boyfriend to have his Becky's cherry popped, he said he hadn't had this good of BBQ since his time in South Carolina. The place is small, but its such an awesome little spot. I really don't even mind that the windows look out to the parking lot or whatever. I am too busy enjoying my delicious meal. And the prices can't be beat. If someone told me to chose between Texas Roadhouse and Becky's, I'll be running towards Becky's any day.

    (5)
  • Kelsey N.

Being from Texas I was skeptical of NE BBQ, but this place has amazing ribs!!! The sides aren't great, especially the "baked beans" with lima beans, uck. The exception is their cornbread which is delicious.

Greetings to you the lucky Yelper who found this review update....again you've won that gastronomic golden ticket to the best local BBQ that is still Becky's. I write this 18 month update in defense of Becky's to bring their ratings back in line...Becky's has earned all 5 Stars every visit. I really cannot imagine what Twilight Zone or other planet some of these reviewers happen to come from. Surely our fellow Yelpers know their BBQ and what they like when they taste it? Still, I'm in here about once a month and cannot disagree more with some of those other negative reviews and descriptions. I must say, earlier I didn't question other's ratings. Now I do. I wonder if some of these low-rating folks know what pulled pork really is? (It isn't a chop, steak, or hamburger) Do you they know what a variety of sauces are for? (try playing around with your food more often, maybe two things on the fork before it goes into your mouth). For my closing remarks....yes, parking can be tricky at times, but it's worth the challenge. However, Becky's surely shouldn't be compared with Scrapple and no meal item served there has ever come from a food-service can or freezer box in the many years I've been a patron. I prefer to eat great food or else I'll go hungry...Seems I always eat too much at Becky's.

Cheap and easy (that's what she said)! The food is good and the price is right. I'm getting hungry just thinking about it! The seating area is small, but it's great for take out. Grab some food and head to the beach. Pulled pork sammy is my fav.

Excellent BBQ! Had the pulled pork with potato salad and it was a very good. The backed beans are not good, really didn't have any taste to them. Service was okay, went back for a couple refills of tea, and felt like I was bugging em. Good BBQ!

  • Lindsay W.

Becky's doesn't compare to the bbq of the South, but with no other options for such fare in this area, it's a nice go-to place when you've got a hankering for pulled pork, potato salad and some corn bread. Nice little spot that's got a cozy atmosphere. Sweet tea option is a plus.

    (3)
  • Dave Z.

Becky's BBQ's quality meets southern standards, which of course means its by far the best BBQ I've ever had in New England. And Becky's serves real sweet tea, and not that lipton powder abomination so prevalent in the area.

    (4)
  • Joe C.

Very good ribs. I wasn't even hungry so only ordered a half a rack with some beans. Both were as good as you'll find. Sauce is served on the side. Must go back and try a few other items.

Tasty, and unique! I am a sucker for a good mom-and-pop joint, and how much more mom-and-pop can you get than having a restaurant in a house? If you plan to eat in, make sure you have a plan to eat out - especially if it's during hours of heavy business. They only have eight tables, and only four of those seat four people. The other four are two-toppers. But I love that, it's a very cozy feel. The pulled pork is amazing and the barbecue sauce amazing, cornbread, three-bean concoction and everything else homemade and delicious. I pay about $6 to have lunch here which is absolutely reasonable considering the freshness and the fact that it's all homemade (extra points for knowing where all your ingredients come from).

I have had better barbeque only in Memphis and Jackson, Georgia. They have a vinegar and tomato based barbeque sauce on the table. Good: *Cheap. *Lots of Food. *Corn *Corn Bread *Pulled Pork *Ribs Bad: *Little Parking *Small Seating *Coleslaw *Canned Soda no fountain drinks Probably the best barbeque on the island. I will definetly continue to go here for my year stay in Newport.

What a BBQ place should be. Looks like an unassuming random house along a main street. Dry-rubbed pork ribs were amazing. Pulled beef was also very good. About 10 minutes away from start of the Newport Cliff Walk.

Four Paws.....I'd give more, if I had them. Truly - tasty - drool worthy, yummy......I can sit pretty for hours knowing that some of Becky's mouth watering BBQ carne is headed my way. Fantastic cheap eats - not always easy to find on Aquidneck Island. Woof woof woof!

Awesome BBQ. For the portions you get at the price you pay, Becky's BBQ might be the best value on the entire island. I could eat there daily and come under my monthly food budget. Its so tasty. I may become a regular.

First time trying it was last night, very good food. I thought you'ed get more pork on the pulled pork sandwich like you do at other places so its covers the whole bun and we didn't. Other than that it was very good and we will definitely eat there again

My sisters SO and I came here after a busy day visiting Boston Museums. My sister works close by and had the menu at work. I've always wanted to go to this establishment because I LOVE barbecue. I've heard good things about it too. It closes early so we were lucky to be able to get over here 20 minutes before they closed. We ordered to go of course since my sister had to work still. Sitting in their tiny dining room was a bit of torture since I hadn't eaten since noontime and it'd been a long day. The dining room is tiny but it is very down home. Red checked tablecloths covered the 4 seater dining tables so I suggest that if you're claustrophobic you take the food home or find a picnic area. It was clean inside and you enter through the back door. The parking area behind the house is very small also. There were people here when we arrived eating their meals. We ordered 3 dinner plates: 2 Rib Plates Slab and a BBQ Pulled Beef. With the plates comes a moist light piece of cornbread and a choice of two sides. Altogether we ordered the Smashed Potatoes, the Coleslaw, the Niblet Corn and Becky's Three Bean Bake. The Smashed Potatoes were an ice cream scoopful of mashed potatoes that weren't special but seemed to be made of real potatoes not reconstituted potato flakes. I enjoyed them, E's SO mixed them with the Kansas City Sweet Sauce which was thick and sweet and tangy but not as tangy as the North Carolina Sauce. The coleslaw was a surprise. Shredded cabbage flecked with red bell pepper but mixed with a mayonnaise-less vinaigrette, it was light and a little soggy but I liked it. My sister couldn't eat it because of her diet restriction: no peppers. The vinaigrette tasted like a ginger-less version of an asian salad dressing like the one Crazy Burger uses in it's Bangkok Slaw. Becky's Three Bean Bake was a colorful mix of different beans in a barbecue style baked bean dressing. It was tasty and I'll order it when I return. Considering the prices, ($9.29 for the BBQ Pulled Beef and $8.99 Rib Plate Slab dinner plates) and the amount of food you get this place is a bargain! The best part is the meat. It is not dressed with the sauce, you get the sauce on the side (we got 3 of the Kansas City Sweet Sauce and 2 of the North Carolina Sauce with our 3 dinner plate orders to go.) If you eat in the dining room they have the sauces in squirt bottles on the tables. Being able to dip the meat, or dress the pulled meats is a wonderful way to enjoy the smoked flavor with or without the sauces. I enjoyed both. Neither sauces were very spicy but the North Carolina sauce was too tangy for my sister's stomach. her SO enjoyed both but really enjoyed the Kansas City Sweet Sauce on his potatoes. Before we left I grabbed some plastic utensils and many napkins from beside the register. Be sure to do the same, it's a messy delicious meal that I plan on coming back for again. The only thing this place lacked is those small sani-naps that KFC had but doesn't provide anymore. Otherwise this place rocks! BTW: The online website is very basic. With the exception of the Welcome page, the "Click for a Map" page and the "What's Nearby?" page (which hasn't been updated for a few years since Brook's Pharmacy doesn't exist anymore,) all the other pages are links to the pages of their paper menu. Which tells you that their prices haven't changed in quite some time. I hope that stays that way. They also accept Visa and Mastercard credit cards.

I had the pulled pork an it was great. My expectations were exceeded. That means a lot coming from a southerner. The cornbread was nice and moist. The baked beans acted as a great side dish. If you are in the area you have to eat here.

A solid BBQ joint. I'm tough on ratings when it comes to the slow cooked meat but I eat here, take out mostly, every summer. The ribs pass the test but the BBQ chicken is the standout. The sides are good as well and when you compare the value for your $ in Newport/Middletown, especially after a day on the beach Becky's is a godsend. * Ample parking in back but, the turn into the driveway can be tricky during peak traffic times. * If you are doing a take-out run there is a "liver store" just across the street.

Cannot believe that such an amazing bbq place exists this far up north! Pulled pork and beef are succulent and a great alternative to the usual seafood fare in newport. Sweet tea however is definitely not what I'm used to down in georgia, but still not bad. Will come back as often as I can!

My wife and I enjoyed the BBQ. I love the simpleness of the restaurant. Good cornbread and I enjoyed the mustard BBQ sauce. I could have gone for a heavier smoke on the meat. Good prices.

Pulled Chicken sandwiches rock, good stuff, good value. Best BBQ on the island, not quite the major's like Bub's in Sunderland, but you can't go wrong here. Didn't get any sides, I'm a dirty rice guy, not offered at Beck's, the other sides didn't excite me. I will be back.

Absolutely delicious, period. Becky's is tucked away across from one of the many plazas of Middletown (the one with the Christmas Tree Shop). It has absolutely fantastic BBQ. My boyfriend and I shared a full rack of ribs. Despite our noble attempts to finish it off, it could not be done. Well-cooked and tasty. It almost slides off the bone. Then we got a pint of the three bean bake. Yummy. Flavorful and saucy. The corn bread is also very yummy, soft and moist. It pretty much filled us up ALL day. Didn't touch food since that late 2 pm lunch. Of course, the NEXT day, also around 2 pm, we decide to visit Becky's as well. We both got pulled pork sandwiches. Tasty, and very very very well-cooked. I enjoyed sampling the three types of sauces available at the table: a mustardy one, a vinegary one, and a bbq sauce. FANTASTIC. I will surely be coming back here many many many times. Such a great find.

Pulled pork is BOMB!!! I never noticed any fat, which I am sensitive to. Corn is "ehhhh". Sweet tea is pretty gross, just tastes like they make it with tap water - which they probably do - but it's pretty apparent. Potato salad is pretty tasty, and I'm picky about that. Never tried any of the desserts, but a slice of pie is only like $2. The prices all around are very reasonable - excellent specials (especially for lunch). Looks like a house, quaint interior, service is ok. It's worth a shot!

Great value for money. Wonderful ribs and sides especially recommend the beans and potato salad. Sauces were ho-hum but this is minor. Service prompt and friendly. Worth the drive from Newport about 1-2 miles only.

Strange place to find excellent barbecue. Middletown seems to be the real food haven for the Newport area. Excellent food at a reasonable price. I'm so glad I found this place. I would've given it 5 stars but I had 2 small problems with it. Let me get the bad stuff out of the way first. For one, the place is tiny. There are a few small tables but none big enough to fit more than 3 people comfortably; especially if you have a big appetite. The tables are too small to fit all that yummy food and its fixins. The locals seem to know this and usually do the take out. It you're visiting, like I was, do yourself a favor and do the take out. Secondly, (and I'll whisper this part) they microwave their orders after wrapping them up in plastic wrap to heat up the meats. I know, BBQ taboo. BUT... The food was delicious. Beggars can't be choosers and on that little island, this place is a culinary blessing. Authentic barbecue taste. The ribs were fall off the bone delicious with a good smoky ring and taste. The pulled pork was fine but chicken was surprisingly good. They give you 2 sauces-a vinegar based and a molasses one. I loved the vinegar based one. The beans were delicious (nice smokey taste) and the corn bread was descent. Overall, a nice barbecue joint. Tasty enough that all you'll be left with is meatless bones strewn all over the place and barbecue sauce dripping off your fingers and chin.

Had lunch here today and did NOT like the chicken at all. It did not look appetizing and certainly did not taste fresh. My companion had the ribs and did not care for them either. Can you say 'leftovers'?

  • Chelsea B.

Mmm the closest to home cooking I've had at restaurant. The place is this tiny house, we almost turned around because it was dead and looked ominous but that's because most people get take out from there. We decided to try it and were glad we did, by the time we left the place was packed and we had seen 5 people go in and out getting take out. I'm not a big fan of the smokey BBQ flavor, thus the 4 stars but everything else was delicious! Their unsweetened tea is the best I've had. My husband wanted to go back the same night to try something else haha.

  • C M.

From the outside, I would not have thought this would be so great. But the best food comes from little hole-in-the-wall places! The ribs I had a nice woody flavor with the meat falling off the bone - so tender. The 3 bean baked beans were delicious! Definitely a great meal with a great price! My husband and I ate for lunch/dinner for less than $30 and we were full! Thanks Becky....we will be back.

Just went here last week after reading about it in a AAA magazine. So glad I went! The portions were generous, delicous bbq & side dishes. Small place, only about 5 or 6 tables.Great prices! I a def. coming back to Newport & back to Becky's! Also stop by the home decor consignment shop next door, I found two items that made my trip!

  • E D.

I ordered my dinner here this evening as take out. It was great! The bbq pulled pork was moist and flavorful. The ribs were cooked so well the meat really did just "fall off" the bone. The Carolina dipping sauce was the perfect addition to the ribs and the sweet bbq was a nice compliment to the pulled pork. The sides were all good as well. Definitely recommend and will be returning when I come back on my next visit to Newport.

You feel like your Mom might come out of the kitchen; this place is a second home. The beans, ribs, and pulled pork are amazing. Don't expect a huge menu, just good BBQ. Best part is the food but the cheap prices make your meal taste just a little better.

Camouflaged in as a dark brown house on East Main Road in Middletown, Becky's BBQ is one hard place to find. If it wasn't for the guys I work with who all grew up on Aquidneck island, I would have never found this place. I've tried almost everything on the menu here and its all damn tasty. I personally guarantee you won't be disappointed with a pulled pork sandwich and a couple of their homemade sides (try to stuff down some cornbread if you have room too). The majority of Becky's business seems to come from catering and takeout, the small sit in dining room (maybe 15 seats) usually has room to sit down for a quick lunch. Even if you have to wait a few minutes for a seat to open up, its worth the wait for the amount of food you get for the unbelievable price. If you work anywhere in the Aquidneck island area this is definitely the local spot to grab one of the best lunches in town.

  • Mike B.

By far the best BBQ on Auidneck Island and in the state of Rhode Island...Maybe the best in New England. Most people go for the pulled Pork, which is great mind you, however they have the best Beef brisket north of Nashville. It's smoked and cooked so perfectly that there's never a trace of fat...Just tender, flavorful Beef. The Chicken and Ribs are awesome too. Sides wise, I'll usually go with the BBQ beans which are the only thing heavy on the mosquite BBQ flavor side and made with 3 different beans and full of Bacon. The slaw is the fine-chopped country style and more acidic than overly sweet. They also offer mashed Potato, Corn, Cornbread...The basics. The menu isn't huge, but that allows the quality to stay where it needs to be. The seating is limited, but if you get a table, you'll feel like you're eating at your Southern Aunts house for a homecooked meal. Be careful pulling in and out of the driveway...Can be a little tricky.

  • Kyle M.

The BBQ Pulled Pork was extremely dry. My coworkers rave about it - I don't understand what the big fuss is. If it is because of the price I'd understand that, but there are so many negatives to this place: bad pulled pork, decent ribs, little parking, limited amount of seating, and rude staff...

    (2)
  • John D.

I don't know where all of these good reviews are coming from but I've been to Becky's on four separate occasions and I haven't enjoyed a meal yet. If by "pulled" they mean "puréed" then we have the truth about the pork, it's a mess on a platter. Everything on the menu seems like leftovers from who knows when. I would not suggest this place to anyone.

    (2)
  • J M.

This Southern girl needs some good barbeque, Becky's pulled pork sandwich is a bargain and can fill you up, baked beans are delicious, I have started adding black beans now to my recipe. And thank goodness they have perfectly blended sweet tea!
