Diabetics must resist their temptations when dining at Applebee's. Most of the items on Applebee's menu is either stuffed with sodium or sugar. You must be extra careful and pick low-sugar and low-sodium diet at Applebee's if you are diabetic.
Foods to Avoid at Applebee's for Diabetics:
If you are starting your meal with appetizers then make sure you skip the Classic Buffalo sauce, Honey BBQ sauce, and sweet Asian Chile sauce on your wings order. It is highly recommended to skip the appetizers if you are dining alone and instead build your appetizer keeping nutrition in check. Among the steaks, you must stay away from the Applebee's Riblets platter as well as Bourbon Street Steak at all costs. Shrimp 'N Parmesan Sirloin is also not recommended. Skip the sandwiches, wraps, and tacos as well. Desserts may be tempting but it is recommended to avoid them at Applebee's for their high sugar content. All the beverages except Iced Teas must be avoided as well to control your sugar intake.
Most of the foods served at Applebee's restaurants are high in sodium. Unless you are visiting the restaurant or dining here in the group, there are hardly any options from the main meals if you wish to keep your blood pressure in check. You can rely on a few salad options though. If lucky, you may find low-sodium ribs as well at the restaurant.
Foods to Avoid at Applebee's for High Blood Pressure
Avoid Green Goddess Wedge at Applebee's. Broccoli Cheese Soup and French Onion Soup contain over 1000mg sodium and hence must be skipped as well. Skip all the chicken dishes and seafood at Applebee's except Grilled Chicken Breast and Baked Haddock without sides respectively. You must also skip Brunch Burger, Quesadilla Burger, Triple Bacon Burger, and Whiskey Bacon Burger at Applebee's. High sodium intake can be lethal for a high blood pressure candidate. Avoid ordering foods that contain over 1000mg sodium at Applebee's, especially if you're dining alone.
Food Suggestions for High Blood Pressure at Applebee's
Well, steaks and ribs go hand in hand with cholesterol. Being their signature dish, it will be a challenge to find low-calorie, healthy food for those concerned with their cholesterol levels. However, you can always opt for their salads and other light foods to keep the cholesterol in check.
Foods to Avoid at Applebee's for High Cholesterol
If you have high cholesterol, then you must avoid eating sandwiches, wraps, and tacos at Applebee's. While the salads and soups sound healthy, you must skip the Fiesta Chopped Salad and Loaded Potato Soup at Applebee's. It is also advised to dodge the Three Cheese Chicken Penne and Chicken Fajita Rollup. Any main meal with over 100mg cholesterol is not idle for someone with high cholesterol. So, skip those items at Applebee's.
Food Suggestions to Maintain Cholesterol Level at Applebee's
Where to go when it's ten pm and your hungry and need a cocktail? Applebee's. I was obsessed with this place in my twenties and got the to go all the time. Now that I'm older my palate is a little more refined. However this is still a great place to get an appetizer or drink. It's affordable too. Half Priced appetizers after nine pm is always nice. This particular location is always clean. The service is great. They are quick to greet and wait on you. Cheryl is usually the bartender there and she is a gem. She remembers what I like to drink and eat and she's also got a great personality. There seem to be a lot of regulars and she knows them all. She makes sure the drinks are kept full and also chats with everyone which is nice when dining alone. The only reason for the four stars instead of five is I'd really like to see more craft beers available there. I know it's a chain but would be great to have a local beer option especially with Newport storm being right down the road. If your in the Middletown area and need a quick drink and snack go see Cheryl. She will take great care of You. !

This location is not horrible, but it certainly could have been better. It was empty except for a few booths and a few seats at the bar. We stopped in of super-early bird dinner with the kids. Their meals were fine (mac & cheese with yogurt and strawberries as the side). The Triple Hog Dare Ya - wasn't much of a dare at all. The commercials on TV and the new menu spread make it seem like you taking on a big meal. It was just OK, a small-ish bun with the three pork layers, cheddar cheese, and thin onion rings. The onion rings by themselves were great. The BBQ sauce on this is too overpowering and took all the flavor away from the meat. I could only taste sauce. I would not order it again. I would talk about the club sandwich, but it was just a club - nothing great, nothing to complain about. The new BBQ fries taste like Lay's BBQ chips. Pretty tasty, but I can only take a few before I'm tapped out on the BBQ flavor. I recommend a half plain & half BBQ order of fries to balance the flavor.

It was a busy night tonight but not overly crowded. We were going for 7 dollar burger night. Our party of 4 was sat at a table with literally no room to move as there was about an inch of space on either side to the surrounding tables. We wanted to ask to move our seats. Waited fifteen minutes without even a drink order, watched out waitress walk by, look directly at the flashing light on the tablet meant to call over your server, and walk away. My boyfriend called out to her, she looked back at him, and continued walking away! Pissed me off so I said let's go, we got up and walked out. Of course, only on the way out she decides to speak to us. Had a better meal at Chili's instead. Not coming back here. Service is appalling. If she was busy, she could have at least said that - instead of flat out ignoring us.

ONE STAR IS TOO MUCH ! IF I could give none I would. We ordered 3 burgers off their menu with no special requests. Our order arrived & we thought someone was playing a joke...3 PLAIN burgers on a PLAIN bun ! NO lettuce, tomato, onion, pickles, cheese, bacon, "special sauce" as advertised...NOTHING ! Burgers got cold and our toddlers 1 & 3 were done eating & climbing the walls when we finally got hold of the manager. We could not wait for a total reorder and left without eating. The table in back of us called the manager for a problem with their rib order and a table horizontal we saw the manager take the whole plate away. A party of 4 got up and left when they saw all this going on before ordering, -lucky them ! Go ANYWHERE but here.

The only saving grace about this place was their bartender at the time. I entered the place and waited a good amount of time to be seated, even though it wasn't that busy. I asked for take-out and was directed to the bar area. There I was helped by quite a friendly bartender who took my order before helping and mingling with other patrons. It was a LONG wait for the food but I could tell that the bartender actually cared about when it was coming. She was persistently asking the servers and the manager to look into the food and I know for a fact they didn't even bother because no one ever came back to say anything because i was sitting right next to the bartender the whole time. She probably asked 4 times until she went back there herself and got it. Horrible customer service is a deal breaker for repeat visits. Also, the food was pretty bland. The boneless hot wings were far from spectacular. Microwaved taste and it was cold in the center on some of them so you know it was just popped in the microwave.

Food is average but not better than Chile's, which is up the road. Prices are decent and drinks are ok. Their downfall is the service. Service was not up to par to other restaurants on the island. Staff are inexperienced and seem lazy and don't want to be there. Unfortunately the Staff may be lacking due to leadership non existent care of customers experience. My nachos were cold and I brought to attention of waiter. My nachos were the wrong size so when they brought my new hot nachos it was the size of what I paid for and when manager brought them he just said here you go and placed them on table. He didn't ask how I was doing or nothing. Just walked away knowing I had an inexperienced waiter. I will never visit this restaurant. There's too many better restaurants on the island.

Walked in on NYE ( New Years Eve) with my friend. Ordered boneless chicken wings and the 2 for $20.00 deal. Bartender was not that approachable or friendly. It was kind of weird because we have a bartender serve us and then a food server serve us drinks at the bar, then a food server take our order at the bar.. All in all, the food came out pretty quickly but the attitude of the bartender just really annoyed me. Bartenders should be open, upbeat and friendly.. That's all I have to say.

I like Applebee's and am in general pleased with their offerings and service. I'm mystified, however, by their decision to stop serving horseradish sauce with the Green Bean Crispers. That was a favorite; why stop serving it? Please bring back the horseradish sauce. Not all change is good!!

Just bad. The bartender did not care. My medium rare steak was well done. I hate to waste food so just ate it. My choice of Newcastle ale was ridiculed. The thing that bothered me most is that she never asked me how things were. She was too busy to check on me and the bar wasn't busy at all. I would have liked desert or an after dinner drink before I walked to my hotel but nothing. So I put my credit card on the bar and got back a soaking wet pen and receipt. Not a good experience. Aside from the steak being well done the salad and mashed potatoes were as expected.

My mother ordered there Steak with the onion....the onion is not a slice, just a few pieces and the steak was the biggest joke ever! Seriously my dog has larger treats and he is a dachshund! We went here on a Friday night and all got half apps. When the order came out the waitress (who was the only waitress for all of the tables) brought out the wrong wings. She apologized profusely and then returned the wings to the kitchen and a few minutes later brought out the correct wing order. Not a big deal at all. When we received our check, we noticed that she took off all 3 of the wing orders! We didn't even ask her to do that and we didn't even wait that long. The server was so nice and the food was great!

Felt obligated to write this after seeing the dismal couple reviews. Was here for work, staying right next store at the Hampton Inn - so I wandered over for dinner and 'a beer'. Quickly 'a beer' turned into 'many beers' when I got talking to the very friendly bartenders and a couple local patrons. Even stayed for Quizzo. Team "Occupy Applebees" had a solid showing of 3rd place. Though my lack of knowledge of any reality tv pop culture screwed me. You've been to Applebee's - the food was the same as any other I've been to - so you know what your getting - and I want take time to review it now.

Came here for dinner tonight with the boy and it was very enjoyable. Our waitress was super cute and enthusiastic as well as check on us regularly. We both got steak and ordered it medium well and they were a little over cooked but over all not a big deal. I also got a side garden salad and though it looked good it didn't taste that good. I really enjoyed the brownie bite and over all I think we will come back.

It's an Applebee's and an okay one so you'll get what you expect from a chain restaurant. The location isn't bad, service has always been good in my experiences, and the food/drink is fine. You probably won't really find significantly better quality food in the Newport area restaurants. Presentation and ambiance are obviously higher end at those restaurants, but this Applebee's will fill you up and provide a place for you to hang out with friends, etc. I don't know why the previous reviews were so bad. I've been here multiple times and have always had good experiences. Get yourself a pitcher of sangria and some appetizers during their happy hour and you'll be a happy camper. Entree wise the dishes are what you'd expect. They can be a bit greasier, but you can mitigate that with your menu selection. Not a bad choice all things considered.

Attempted to eat here for lunch today...bad choice! The place was practically empty so the reason for the food taking 35 minutes to come out of the kitchen is beyond me. Our waitress, however, was OK. Mom ordered a cheeseburger, medium, and I ordered an appetizer combo. From the second our food was put down all I could look at were the greasy "french fried onions" on Mom's burger. They almost seemed to be dripping in grease...EEEWWW! Her french fries literally tasted like they were cooked the day before and left out on the counter. Then, onto my plate... when I bit into a "crispy shrimp" they were absolutely grease-logged. Took one bite of the chicken taco which tasted terrible and I couldn't even stomach trying to taste a boneless wing...I was disgusted. We told the waitress about our issues and she promptly summoned the manager over. She was very sweet and apologetic. Thank you! I do not want to blame anyone for this grotesque experience except for the people in the kitchen. Having worked as a waitress for many years, I can only imagine what's going on back there... It's not fair for the waitresses who work for tips or the manager who has to listen to the complaints...

Hmmm... what to say?! We patroned this establishment hard core in May 2008 and again in April 2009 since it is connected to the Howard Johnson (where we stay when we come to town). Thursday night we had typical "Applebees" service. Bahama Mama = hangover, fyi. On Friday, we celebrated an OCS graduation (just drinks). We didn't really spend that much time there, but the manager cut us off. I guess they didn't enjoy our $70 rounds of shots?! Boo to them! They clearly don't have a special place in their hearts for OCS graduates!

About Applebee's
Applebee is an American full-service restaurant brand popularly known for its signature Riblets. Applebee was conceptualized in 1980 by Bill and TJ Palmer in Atlanta, Georgia. At first, the restaurant was named T.J. Applebee's RX for Edibles and Elixirs. After the concept was acquired by W.R. Grace and Company, the restaurant was renamed as Applebee's Neighborhood Grill & Bar. Later the company and the Applebee's concept changed hands with Abe Gustin and John Hamra who started the first Applebee's franchise restaurant in Kansas City.
Later in 2007, IHOP Corp. now known as DineEquity, Inc. acquired Applebee's and began their journey together to make Applebee's the world's largest full-service restaurant chain. Today, Applebee's serves at more than 1,830 locations worldwide. The Applebee's menu ranges from Appetizers and Salads to heavy meals consisting of ribs and steak. Although the trademark dish Riblets is a hot favorite among regular Applebee's dwellers, the restaurant also serves some amazing burgers, sandwiches, pasta, and salads.
