Sometimes when I'm around the area id come to Newport Creamery just for the Awful Awful not the food. Not saying the food is bad but I never had the food here I was get the Awful Awful. Very nice waiters and service and Awful Awful is one of the best shakes I ever had. Good place to come to get ice cream but I can't say much since I never had the food and only come here for the Awful Awful

Family if five went in for dinner. There were maybe a total of 7 table for the 4 waitresses there. After about 5-10 minutes of waiting to be seated without so much as a hello, or we will be right with you we walked out. Horrible first impression. We will not be going back.

Who in Rhode Island doesn't love Newport Creamery? I love everything about it. I have great memories as a kid eating here with my grandparents who are now passed away and eating here with my dad after every father daughter dance..eating here just brings me back to the days of no stress and easy living. The food is always great and who can say no to an ice cream sundae? not me! Awful awfuls are my weakness I just love them. This location is really nice inside since they have just finished renovating it inside and out. I like how you can get a container of ice cream to go its so much better then settling for grocery store ice cream. Overall one of my favorite new england restaurants.

Nothing bad about an awful awful.... As a matter of fact it's great! Custom make yours and don't be shy, my daughter gets a chocolate one with extra chocolate sprinkles and my son gets a strawberry with rainbow sprinkles Yum! Food is okay and they are also open for breakfast, bring the little ones and enjoy.

Probably part of my love for this place is nostalgia, but I think the food is really tasty. You sort of have to know what to order, but certain items here are really awesome. Favorites of mine include the quesadilla, popcorn chicken, tuna melt, and blueberry pancakes for breakfast. The burgers are also really good. The regular big beef cheeseburger comes 'the Newport Creamery Way' which is really just code for 'on a grilled cheese' but you could certainly ask them to make any of their burgers this way. The seasoned fries are awesome and I always dip them in barbecue sauce... Yum! And of course you can't beat the ice cream. Full disclosure that this is NOT fine dining, I certainly wouldn't go here expecting say, high quality seafood, but go in expecting a tasty and cheap meal and you won't be disappointed! PS... They just upgraded the inside and it looks much nicer than before.

Been going to Newport Creamery since I was young. Always great comfort food and excellent frozen treats. Their seasoned fries are the best. The staff at this location works hard, bur they are not charming. I was told 20 minutes for a to go order and showed up 28 minutes after I called. Took 40 plus minutes for a burger and fries. Disappointing. And to top it all off, when I got home, found out they gave me the wrong order.

We like to take our kids here when we want ice cream sundaes! This time we decided to eat in before dessert. we were seated almost immediately upon arrival. We had a very friendly waitress that got our order correct and filled our drinks in a timely manner. Our food came out quickly and everything tasted just right. The salad I had was fresh and my husbands burger was in his words "awesome." The waitress did not charge us for an extra side of salad dressing either. I thought that was great since most places try to get a few dimes out of you in any way they can. Also, the bathrooms were very clean as well as the dining area.

An awful awful place The first Newport Creamery sort of started back in 1928 when the Rector family started selling milk and dairy products in Newport, RI. Things went well and they decided to open a sort of milk bar that was basically a little ice cream stand They opened up another store in 1948 and expanded until they were 33 Newport Creameries in the area. The original store that opened is still around in Middletown, Rhode island Unfortunately things didn't go well in the economy of the 1990s and the company declared bankruptcy in 2001. Another company ended up buying the Newport Creamery name and now 12 stores still survive. Most of the stores are pretty similar, burgers, sandwiches and of course ice cream. Really good ice cream. The store in Greenville is pleasant, clean and the servers always pleasant. The burgers are all right but it's the ice cream and of course the infamous Awful Awfuls that the Creamery is known for. An Awful Awful is an awfully good and thick milk shake. Probably several million calories in every one but there sure are good, definitely one of the best shakes I've ever had. The sundaes are enormous and covered with just about every topping you can imagine. Newport Creameries continue on as a Rhode Island tradition. Not the greatest food around but some awful good sundaes and shakes.

Yet another AMAZING restaurant in Rhode Island!! I can compare it to the Friendly's that we have here in MA. The food is so so. It isn't until you get to the dessert that you will enjoy the AWFUL AWFUL. Don't let the title AWFUL AWFUL fool you...they are AMAZING and very filling!!

I've been a life-long Rhode Islander and Newport Creamery is pretty much a way of life here but this location wasn't that great. Showed up on a Friday night and we knew there would be a wait and decided we didn't mind. We waited about 10-15 minutes which wasn't too bad. The restaurant was filthy! I know it was a Friday night but the cleanliness should not be lacking...sticky tables, food and trash all over the floor, etc. We ordered the appetizer sampler; the menu states this comes with a cheese quesadilla but it's not just cheese inside. There was bacon (or something) in there and the menu did not state this AT ALL. I'm a vegetarian so I couldn't eat that part of the appetizer that I was the most excited about. The food took longer than the appetizers to come out; we ordered a BLT club and a grilled cheese w/ tomato. My grilled cheese came out cold and it wasn't even cooked. The bread wasn't even warm; the cheese not melted whatsoever. I was just going to suck it up and eat it but it was literally just cheese and bread, and it was cold. Took about 10 minutes before we had to shout for the manager and wave him down. He tried to fix the situation by bringing the dish back to the kitchen; the same grilled cheese came back out to me (make you wonder how many times this one sandwich was handled by employees) and it still wasn't totally cooked. The manager was more excited that they were kind enough to give me fresh fries than anything else. He never came back over to check on things, ever. The waitress we had was really nice and was upset the order came out sub par. We explained to her it wasn't her fault at all and we left her a tip to reflect that. If I was just rating on our waitress, there would be more stars to this rating. I don't think I'd return to eat here again, probably just stop by the outside window so I don't have to go inside again. Overall, this was a very disappointing experience and I would tell others about this experience if they were thinking of stopping in.

How do you not have a baby changing station?!?!?! Isn't this a place where families can bring their small children? Took my 1 and 2 yr old there this weekend was shocked to see no station in the bathroom. Are we supposed to change them on the floor?? The place was packed with small children still in diapers so I'm sure I'm not the only mom completely disappointed by this. So much for a family friendly restaurant!

Breakfast at Newport Creamery is a favorite. The coffee is classic American but in a broad cup your nose takes it all in. It's generally fresh and refilled. The eggs are like home, not greasy or grill soiled. The pancake mix is unique and delicious with a note of corn. It's the next best thing to a fine hotel. Service and cooking can occasionally be off as is typical of the industry but management puts the customer first. Newport Creamery is a family favorite. The kids like it too.

[review is of Take-Out / Awful Awful] The location has been maintained well; manicured landscaping and the interior (from what I could see at the take-out window) looked spiffy'n'clean. Children were squealing over ice cream coated in hot fudge, and teenagers laughed at a nearby booth while chowing down on french fries. Prices are reasonable (....mega cheap), and the ice cream menu includes many of my favorites (maple walnut, butter pecan, etc). But the only reason we happened to stop by, this soggy Saturday evening, was for the Awful Awful. Ahh, the home of the famed "AWFUL AWFUL", A Rhode Island "must try", right? Well, Rhodies, don't hate me but .....muh. (there was a shrug in there, in case you missed it). Advertised as a "thick milkshake" and available in chocolate, vanilla, strawberry, or mocha. I opted for the smallest size ("junior", $3 and about 10oz) in mocha flavor. The taste was similar to any other fast food "ice cream" (chemically aftertaste and leaving me with a pasty texture in my mouth - blech). The service was just fine and the price was right, but uhh......R.I., you can keep your "thick" shake, and I'll stick with the frappes.

This is my fave Newport Creamery because I grew up going here with my parents, grandparents, etc. I pretty much only ever order the Tuna Melt cause it's my favorite place to get one (I try them out most places I go, but they are still my #1). Sundaes and Awful Awfuls are good, and I really like the Super Chipper ice cream sandwiches.

How much can you really expect. Bringing kids to this place is great because they can get a little loud and it's not totally ruining an amazing dining experience. Kids meals included Macaroni & cheese and little containers of MOTTS applesauce???!?! They loved it though so....cool. I do have a small gripe with the fact that when we ordered additional sides of applesauce, the teeny motts cups were 3.50??ok i paid for convenience..whatever. The adults dined on burgers, tuna melts and fries. The sundaes were cool. The service.....very young and very anxious to get you outta there.

I flippin love this place. (Why Yelpers state the price range is "moderate" is beyond me: most meals are well under $10.) I've hit up just about every Newport Creamery in RI at this point & this particular location is extremely convenient, consistently providing me great service. Lunch wise, I almost always get the same meal: the "Burger in the Rye." Amazingly delicious, buttery rye bread with swiss cheese and grilled onions over a medium well hunk of beef with my usual request of extra pickles. Bucket for drool, party of one please. Their seasoned fries, chicken fingers and mozzarella sticks also aim to please & they have a pretty generous fried fish dinner platter that's surprisingly tasty for pseudo-diner food. Aside from my repetitive lunch selection, I also love their breakfast menu: awesome potatoes, sausage, pancake, the list goes on. (The hubby and I ordered a mountain of delights this morning for under $15 total.) Of course there's also the ice cream. (Don't hit me, folks.. not really a frozen treat fan so I'll lay off!) Service is usually prompt and friendly with my only complaint being the noise level due to the dozens of screaming banshee children that flock for ice cream. On the upside, I noticed that's really only an annoyance during the dinner and late lunch crowds: breakfast or early lunches even on weekends tend to be a bit more sane.

Love this place I'm from Bryant and we come here after dinners and just come to have some ice cream. It is a bit overpriced for. Ice cream Sundays. 3 scoops if ice cream with fresh strawberries and bananas for $5.30. I like the crazy vanilla. The restaurant is very small. And feels like a Denny's restaurant but with young waitresses rather than older people.

My inlaws took us there with our kids after my son's soccer game for lunch. Food was average, nothing special. Service was absolutely horrible!!! After an hour and a half we got our food....45 minutes later, after having the dishes stacked up in front of us for quite awhile, I walked over to the kitchen area to ask if we'd ever be given a check to get the hell out of there. It didn't seem all that busy so I'm not sure what the hold up was. I have never been so aggravated at a restaurant before. By the time we left there from having lunch it was almost dinner time. I will not ever go back.
