Love J's Deli!!! Always hot and fresh! They are always super busy but never fail me! I'm a picky eater so when I call it's always none of this just that blah blah blah but they always make it just right! It's always clean and well stocked. Employees are always up beat even though they must be dead tired! They work hard and put a lot pride into their sandwiches. No other sandwich place comes close in my opinion! It's one of our families favorites when mom (that's me) doesn't feel like cooking!

This was my first visit to J's. I found the portions to be very large. There's a huge menu with a diverse range of choices, so if you're not sure what you're in the mood for, J's is perfect! It seemed expensive upon payment, but in my opinion, one sandwich was enough for two people for lunch. I will be going back for a second visit!

This deli gives you great options... Great sandwiches, appetizer items, and desserts. The sandwiches have a lot of meat, and are stuffed with toppings! The food is always fresh! They are very busy at lunch time, so calling ahead for your sandwich and food will save you some time, especially if you have a limited time for lunch! Definitely a place to go!

Legit! Bread check Meat check Flavor check Price check J's subs are right on the money. It's my first time and I can tell right off the back this place gets it right all the time. After reading reviews I decided to go with the pilgrim. The burst of taste and flavor had me scarfing down this sub in no time!

Good for a quick bite. Huge menu selection of subs, sandwiches, salads and wraps. Chicken fajita wrap was pretty good and reasonably priced.

I've lived in town for over a year and I finally made my way over to J's Deli, and I'm glad I did. It is a true deli offering fresh cut meats, cheeses, salads and pies to take home as well as a sit-down deli with a selection of sandwiches made to order, soups, and pastries. They also make their own potato chips and offer the usual fried items like curly fries, sweet potato fries, mozzarella sticks, etc.. I had the Waldorf wrap with J's potato chips for about $10....and, yes, they have Willow Tree chicken salad. Both were delicious. cannot as yet speak to the soups or the pastries. I did notice they take cake orders, so I assume their pastries are made in-house.

This is the best deli I've found in the area. Good luck trying each of the menu items... there are about 4000 sandwich options written on the walls surrounding the deli area. Lots of interesting "theme" sandwiches. My favorite is "The Ring of Fire."

Great lunch spot, especially for custom subs and Friday fish n chips! Also my go to for deli meats..Bangin buffalo chicken cold cuts Prices have been jacked up over the past few years which is the only factor holding this location from that everso coveted 5 stahhh rating

Walking in and seeing the menu haphazardly strewn about the wall, some written on poster board, some on a more permanant sign, can be a little overwhelming at first. All you need to do is take a step back and it won't take long before you find a sandwich or two (or three or four) that sound good. You really can't go wrong, so just order whichever one strikes you first. As soon as you pay you're going to regret your order because you'll find a sandwich that sounds even better than the one you're getting. No worries, you're gonna want to come back anyway. Keep that sandwich in mind for next time. My only advice is that you avoid going in the 12 o'clock hour. With a small industrial park across the street and a local reputation for being a great place, everyone and their brother goes to this place for lunch. It can fill up pretty quickly and even though they're only throwing sandwiches together, it can take them a while. The tables will likely be full so just try to find a spot out of the way and watch ESPN on one of their tvs or read one of the papers they have lying around. You're going to pay more than you would for your $5 footlong, but you're going to get a sandwich that's jam packed with ingredients. Nowhere seems to fill their sandwiches all the way, but rest assured, here you'll get quality bites from the second bite to the second to last. The typical person could order a drink and some chips to go with their sandwich and would be more than content saving the second half for tomorrow's lunch. That makes the extra couple of bucks entirely worth it. Those of us with a big appetite will be full after 3/4ths of a sandwich, but seriously, who's going to save a quarter sandwich? So that stuffed feeling will take you all the way til dinner. Also totally worth the extra couple of bucks. You can't go wrong with this location or the Woonsocket location. Both places make for a great lunch.

Great deli sandwiches. Service can be a little slow but worth the wait. Decor is what you would expect from a deli. Prices are acceptable especially for the size you get.

  • Keith M.

I've been going to J's since it opened. Great sandwiches - always. The quality is always consistent and they don't skimp on the amount of meat if that's what you're looking for. Good stuff!

I moved to Jersey and the one thing I miss about Rhode Island is this place. When Im back in town visiting family and friends, I make it a point to go here. Great original, creative sandwichs, awesome pricing and they take care of their customers. I remember the joy of getting a free sub for being a part of their sub club. I still drean of Js once a month.

Awesome deli. They have so many sandwiches, salads and pastas to choose from. Being from Cumberland I love the names of all the sandwiches that are named after the area. The prices are very reasonable, and sandwiches are delicious. I now live in New Jersey and every time I come home to visit family, we make a stop here.

I'm not a huge sandwich person, but when I'm in the mood for an awesome sandwich, this is the only place I will go! For the days I visit and decide to skip a sandwich, I always grab a soup and salad. Staff is friendly, huge selection, quality meats, and most of all every single sandwich is delicious! My favorite is the Pilgrim Thanksgiving Day Sandwich.

  • Pam B.

My go to when not feeling like cooking. Never had a bad sandwich or soup. Thanksgiving Day is the best!

Believe it or not I went to a deli and ordered a Chicken parm.... needless to say it was great, absolutely fantastic! Their prices are a bit high asking 7.99$ for a combo (chips, drink and sandwich) but that is on par with your local D'angelo's. The bread is fresh, the food is tasty and they have over-sized Tv's to keep you entertained while grabbing a bite. I could not read all the chalk-board signs but they have a ton of specialty sandwiches to choose from. 7.99$ might seem like a pretty penny for a quick lunch but the portions reflected the price. I will 100% visit this place again and might even try buying some deli meat here, not a bad place.

Nothing but Fs for this place - Friendly, Fast, Fresh and Filling! If you like Sandwiches or Fresh type type of cuisine, this place will not disappoint. The sandwiches on torpedo rolls weigh about 1-2 lbs (just a guess) but regardless of the weight they are significant in size. More than ~30 different types of sandwiches. My favorites: The Freshman, The Pilgrim, BLT, Fresh Catch, Magellan, Corner Pocket...this list goes on and on. The beef stew is hearty and savory a meal on it's own - Chunky Soup has NOTHING on this stew. I LOVE the fact they have Maine in Maine products! Oakhurst Milk - YES! Steve's Whoopie Pies - YES YES YES - I like the Maple Whoopie pie. Call ahead for quick pick up or order and wait. The only place in Northern RI for sandwiches for me!!

I've never had J's Deli before until last night, and the first question that came to my mind after taking my first bite of the "Buffalo Soldier" was WHY?! The food was fresh, hot, and most of all, delicious. Nothing was stale or greasy. When I first ordered, I thought the food was a bit pricey but after looking at the portion size and actually tasting the food, I think it was worth it. I don't write reviews on yelp. I mostly use the app to decide where I want to go for dinner on a weekend or something. But the man who took my order last night drove me to write this review. I wish I got his name. He was so welcoming and friendly in the beginning, and then when we had a bit of a problem with the food, he handled it so well and professionally. If it wasn't for him, I'd give the restaurant a 4/5 stars. Definitely worth a try.

I am one of the newest fans of J's Deli. I've always heard locals rave of these sandwiches but never wanted to go out of my way to pick one up. Recently got the opportunity to try it out and here's what I have to say; My first time ordering I made the mistake of ordering without reading through the menu and got the "ring of fire". Everyone I've talked to says they love that sandwich and I did not. The ingredients and bread are amazing and fresh, it just turns out that I don't like sliced chicken deli meat. My second time I decided just to order a simple roast beef sandwich and that's when I fell in love. The size is awesome. Best bang for your buck. But what I love is the quality. The lettuce, type of dressings, joe the meat is sliced and even down to the homemade pickles makes this place so awesome. I be returning as many times as I can. I've been telling everyone I know about this place (though few haven't heard of them). Can't wait to try the rest of the menu!

I work in Cumberland and this location has yet to disappoint me. Very large, hearty sandwiches bring me back each time. They also have soups that sound great- I plan to try them soon. I will also note that they have never made an error when I place large orders.

  • Ryan S.

Big fan of J's deli for years. The selection of sandwiches is why it is on my top 10 of fast food The only issue is at the Cumberland location which has stale/hard bread on a regular basis on the weekends. While the Smithfield location is soft delicious. Please fix it!

Stopped in for a couple of sandwiches for myself and the kids (10 and 12). Parking lot was full to capacity, and with the snow piles and huge icicles this made matters worse. Inside, majority of the tables were full with diners. We ordered three sandwiches, curly fries and three drinks - about $36, which seemed a little high for three sandwiches. Daughter had a corned beef on rye - meat was plentiful, but the corned beef looked like grocery store corned beef and not true corned beef. Daughter liked the sandwich anyway. Son had a Varone - chicken tenders, mozzarella and italian dressing - he seemed to like, but the bun was bigger than his 10 yr old mouth. I had a wall street - pastrami, cheese on a bulkie roll. Lots of bread, but okay. Definitely, a next time for this place, but will try other sandwiches and maybe some soup. Come early and avoid the lunch crowd.

I use to get food here at least once a week when they had there location in Attleboro which I really enjoyed and miss so now I get it like once a month the food is always good and they have a great variety

As a very picky eater, I can honestly say I love J's! Their Pilgrim sandwich is the best, they always have prepared food available (my favorite is their beef stew), and their cookies are to.die.for. Period. It can be a little tricky to turn left into their parking lot if there's traffic, but be patient, they are worth it. Oh and the best part? You are paying less than some awful place like Subway for much better food, and more of it! Highly recommend!

  • Michael S.

Mediocre deli that doesn't do anything special. Just look in the deli case - nothing but the bare basics.

    (2)
  • Tess W.

Too many choices, a good thing. Pickles are home made and mild. Awesome sandwiches! Awesome, a bit pricey, but awesome. The selection cannot be beat. Even vegetarian choices. If you have a diverse crowd, this is the place to go. Take your time and read all the options. Guaranteed once you order you will see one you want instead. Cons: I didn't like the pasta salad which was very over priced. So don't bother, too heavy on dressing, no veg.

Just passing through as an avid traveler and Yelped Steak Sandwiches in the area and J's has some of the better ratings... Got the Steak and cheese, 11$ for sandwich and a water which I felt was a bit overpriced for the Small amount of steak in the sandwich... The steak was tasty but they used canned mushrooms the were plastic like and the torpedo roll was a bit over cooked and I could not eat the ends as the were solid and hurt the roof of my mouth.... flavorful steak but not the best or shaved as it stated on the menu... Average at best... I wouldn't go back...

I stopped in today for a chicken cairo wrap. The chicken they put in that wrap was absolutely disgusting. Not only was it NOT grilled, but it was spongy and mushy. I have never ever been anywhere that messed up something as simple as a chicken wrap. Grilled chicken is NEVER of that texture. I seriously thought they put hard boiled egg whites in my wrap because thats what it looked and felt like. They definitely did not grill it so how did they cook it?? I've cooked chicken many ways and never had it turn out like that. The only chicken with that texture is the processed stuff from the freezer section at the grocery store. Shame on them. No place who would put that disgusting chicken in a wrap takes pride in their food. Still makes me sick thinking about it. Go to Pick Pockets or Bills Pizza

I have now been to J's enough to warrant 5 stars. The sandwiches are the best around, the sides are tasty, and the service is friendly and efficient. The prices may seem high at first, but the sandwiches are huge -- big enough for two. I love that they also have a deli counter and breakfast sandwiches. There is also some basic seating if you want to eat your sandwich there. Go ahead: Walk up to the counter and order any of the sandwiches off the walls. You won't be disappointed.

  • Jay D.

This place is beyond 5 stars. It is BY FAR the SINGLE BEST sandwiches in ALL of NEW ENGLAND. no doubt. no question. just epic deliciousness. The bread is just perfect. The wraps are fresh. The pickles are pickled just right. The staff are friendly and quick. The turnaround from order to tummy is on point. I have never EVER ever EVER had anything go wrong or be bad at this place. They even have a frequent purchase card. The reason why this place is so fantastic is because they bake their own bread + weigh each ingredient to make sure that each sandwich every TIME is perfect. There is plenty of seating and a parking lot too! One of my faves is the more healthy option: the Mediterranean wrap. YUMMERS in my TUMMERS + KIND to my BEHIND. i also love the name of the deli. but i digress.... If you want the *BEST* sandwich of your life, this is your kinda place.

Excellent. I love that the sandwiches are named for easier ordering, as opposed to the normal Buffalo chicken it's ...The Graduate- Breaded chicken cutlets with Buffalo sauce, melted sharp American cheese, bacon & Blue cheese dressing on a Torpedo roll $7.25 Prices are reasonable! Try them!

    (5)
  • Altan K.

This little place has a great selection of sandwiches. They are huge portions and the prices are excellent! The only reason for not a 5-star is well, it is a little cramped during lunch hours and there is no outdoor seating. Definitely a good place to go and excellent find while in the area!

  • David G.

Fantastic subs, sandwiches and calzones. Why can't I find a deli like J's in Massachusetts? Makes me want to move back to Rhode Island, where they do food right. Very friendly staff, it's worth the drive, the price and the short wait when there busy

    (5)
  • Julie S.

DO NOT GOOOO!!!!!!! Not sure which is worse the waste of money or the waste of time? Went it took amazingly long for premade food which is ridiculously priced, and left hungry. From the counter help that takes extraordinarly long--although the phone orders were taken before the customers in line! REALLY??!! People I worked in a real deli where we sliced the boars head meat to make the sandwich as it was ordered, and did it faster and more efficiently than this joke of a place that has disgusting premade food.

    (1)
  • Federico D.

First off...J's ranks with breathing as one of the more important things in my life. I had to move a thousand miles away from this place on doctors orders before I set the Guinness world record for "Youngest Person to Have their Heart Explode." It's debatable whether said explosion was J's Deli Sub Induced, or J's Deli Sub Excitement induced. The sandwiches are huge, cheap for what you get, incredibly unique, and endless in variety (A: Donald Trump is elected president. Q:What is the only thing that Rico would find more surprising than someone not finding a J's deli sub they want to dip in gold and wall mount?) Last time I checked...that's four fingers ALL the way up.

This "chain" of delis has great sandwiches to choose from and you can pretty much personalize any one of them. Although from this particular location they find it hard to perfect almost any order my family has ever called in. If you want to try a J's Deli I'd suggest trying the one in Woonsocket, surprisingly it's the best staffed who are competent enough to make an amazing sandwich.

I love J's deli. Every time I come back to Rhode Island I come here. It's always what I remember, and the sandwich is always delicious.

J's is just plain awesome. I was introduced to it a few years ago by my boyfriend, and I've definitely become a fan of it myself! I'm always a bit overwhelmed by the sheer number of options, but I don't think I've ever had a bad sandwich from here! The wait can be a bit long during the busy hours, but it's worth it! Also, the prices will seem a bit high, but only until you see how enormous these sandwiches are! I'm always stuffed after 1/2, and then I save the other half for a second meal. I do have to say their pickles aren't pickley enough and taste more like cucumbers. Other than that, J's is one of the best!

    (4)
  • Chris M.

I was raised on J's!!! I have eaten more "Graduates" (that's the breaded buffalo chicken breast with bacon and blue cheese on a fresh torpedo roll) than anything else but they have a literal wall of sandwiches to choose from. I highly recommend!!

  • Anthony C.

Good lawd!!! The sandwiches are amazing, priced relatively low...and an amazingly large menu. Hats off to those guys.

  • Joss P.

Minus the sometimes obnoxious selection of Bryant bro's and ho's, J's hits the spot for a quality lunch. Good food, huge selection of sandwiches, and an awesome meatball calzone (get a side of marinara sauce). Wait! Why the 3 stars? -The aforementioned..err...clientel. -During lunch time (11-3) it is PACKED. They are incredibly slow pushing people through the cash register. -Once you do order, you're waiting 10 minutes for them to heat something up. -Crowded seats -The prices are steep for the food you get. $8 for a calzone?! Tomato City makes a slightly smaller decent calzone for less than half the price...

  • Natalie K.

A ton of choices for lunch menu, great selection of deli meats to go to take home and make sandwiches (and cheaper). Their deli prepared foods/sandwiches are pricey. At times they seem to have way too many choices. They do have specials and deals every day though, which are a bit cheaper. I like their chicken and hummus wrap as one of the healthier alternatives.

only complant is pricing...very expensive..with most things its 100% worth it however i called to get pricing on a platter..23 small sandwiches..$58!!!! normal meals u get what u pay for but parties dont bother

I visited a friend in RI this weekend and for dinner she asked, "Do you guys want grinders?" She showed us the takeout menu from J's, had us all write down our orders, and her husband went to go pick it up. I had the Marino - eggplant parm + meatballs. The perfect sandwich for someone who can never decide between those 2. It was awesome. There were at least 10 different sandwiches I wanted to try, but unfortunately I live in NYC and am not going to be back visiting my friends in Woonsocket anytime soon. The sandwiches were huge, you'd get about a 1/4 of that sub for the $6.75 pricetag here in NY. Then you flip the menu to the back and they have a bunch of the sandwiches available in the 16" size for a couple bucks more. You could seriously feed a family of 5 for under $10 with one of those. Delicous.

What an awesome place! When I moved into my new home just down the road, a friend recommended this place to me. I've already been twice and am becoming quite the fan! Their prices are entirely reasonable, the facility is clean, the staff is friendly, and the food is tasty! I would certainly pass along the recommendation.

If you like sandwhiches J's Deli delivers. I just had the "Wall Street" (Extra lean pastrami & Corned beef with melted Swiss cheese and Spicy mustard on a bulky). Amazing! I've tried a few of their other sandwhiches and have never been let down. It can get very busy at lunch time. For fresh ingredients and generous helpings it's well worth the wait.

My parents sent me to J's Deli to pick up some sandwiches. They are being fans of the Patriot sandwich, which is a toasted turkey sandwich (though they prefer it with swiss) and I got a chicken parm cause I love chicken parm. Although the locals were complaining that the prices went up about a buck recently, the amount of sandwich per dollar is much higher here than in Boston.

  • Darcie S.

J's Deli is amazing. I was first introduced to this place years ago, when I worked in RI. Every once in a while, our entire floor would order from here, and someone would drive the 20+ minutes to go pick it up - it really is that good. I always get the Varone - breaded chicken, melted cheese, bacon, letttuce, onions and italian dressing. It's so tasy that I just can't bear to try anything else. The sandwiches are huge, and the bread is flat out amazing - soft, but firm enough that your sandwich doesn't collapse around it. I usually eat half the sandwich and save the other half for the next day - they make great leftovers. Its a little out of my way, so I don't go very often, but every now and then, I get a J's craving, and off we go. Highly recommended.

Great Deli in suburban RI, offering a huge variety of cold cut & hot Sandwiches on a Torpedo Roll, Wrap or Panini. Unique recipies & names like The Graduate, The Verano, The Buffalo Soldier and The Pilgrim make it interesting with a signature style of locale flavour. Also served fresh Salads & Bakery items for your sweet buds! I do however wish they had more choices of bread and fresh juice. The place is always clean and quick to take your order and serve, spacious with casual seating and a few telees. Lunch time gets quite busy so call in your order !
