Love the sushi. 5 stars because the Shangri-la role is to die for (salmon, crab, basil, sweet mango sauce, tempura crumbles... OMG so good). I'm always wary when restaurants combine many Asian food types (Chinese and Vietnamese are completely different, OK New England?), but Jackie's does it pretty well. All of the non-sushi dishes I've had have been delicious, but maybe not 5-star-worthy. Don't be fooled by the other Jackie's Galaxie restaurants in Rhode Island, this is the only one worth eating at.

Food was ok. Pad Thai used rice noodles. Should have stuck to Thai restaurant for pad Thai. The carpets are filthy.

Great, reliable Chinese + Japanese food. (the Thai + Vietnamese selections are a bit sparse). You'll probably like whatever you choose, and if you don't, never fear! The service is great and the folks at Jackie's are always willing to make any adjustments you need. I love the Nime Chow in veggie or regular (w/ shrimp) varieties. Nime chow= summer rolls. The bar tends to get busy on game nights. The drinks are delicious! and at a great price. I like to have one while I wait for my take-out, which never has more than 15 minutes wait time.

I'm not a huge fan of Jacky's Galaxie's, but this one stands out to me over the others. The menu is extensive and the food is tasty.

This place is really good. The sushi is decently priced and is some of the best I have. Their seafood dishes are great as well. Try their clams with black bean sauce. Or any of their squid dishes. I'm very happy with this place. A little pricey, but well worth it.

my wife and i make this a weekly trip. the food is always good and vinny the bar tender always makes your visit pleasent. the sushi or sashimi has never disapointed and the great thing about jackies is that if ,like my wife and i, one hates sushi and only likes cooked food, the menu is very extensive . i haven't tried the other jackies in r.i but you wont be dissapointed in cumberland

Worst chinese food in the area. Threw out $40 dollars worth of take-out as it was inedible. Beef and Ribs were so dry you couldnt bite into them?? Like eating dust. Obviously this food was either sitting around for hours or scraped off someone's leftovers...if you are going out for chinese, go elsewhere!!!

This Jacky's always seems to use higher quality ingredients than you would find at a "regular" Chinese food joint. We absolutely love their fried brown rice, their sushi is pretty good, and they use the bigger shrimp in their shrimp dishes (and are generous with the shrimp). They also have other Japanese and Thai options. Although it's not on the menu, I've also ordered udon noodle soup, and it is great. You pay for the higher quality, though, so it is not the place to go for cheap eats.

  • Foxy S.

Do not order the soup. What they consider beef is just awful. I ordered rice noodle soup from many local restaurants and this was the worst. The broth was so flavorless and smelled like a locker room. The slices of beef were rubbery and gray colored. I took one sip and quickly returned it. Just too bad as I live close :/

We really like thus place everytime we come to Providence for work. It's a good place for enjoying decent Asian food.

Jacky's Galaxie is an awesome place to eat. There sushi is delicious and very fresh. Lunch specials are huge and generous. I'm always satisfied whether it's takeout or dine in. Wonderful staff and service. Must tries are the fresh spring rolls (Nim Chow), Crab Rangoon, pad thai, lot and all of their maki rolls!

Jacky's Galaxie is a great place to enjoy a sushi dinner. Fresh ingredients, friendly and attentive wait staff, and a nice relaxing environment. Order the Christmas Roll if you like spicy tuna.

  • Carrie B.

Love Jacky's so many favorites to list...spicy shrimp California roll, wonton soup are my favorite apps. Pad Thai, noodle bowl, pineapple rice and the dumplings are all delicious. They also remodeled a few months ago and it looks great!

Just ate there again. I asked to have soft rice noodles with the Mongolian beef vs fried noodles and they said no...really? I didn't order. I have to say most Asian restaurant accommodate you on these requests. The sushi looked very good, we did not order. My broccoli beef was simply sauteed beef, very little sauce and steamed broccoli added for 15 seconds. The pieces were too big, and the beef/broccoli did not marry into a classic Chinese Beef Broccoli dish. It was disappointing. I hear now they use real white chicken in their chicken dishes. A year or more ago it was cheap water soaked thigh meat with untrimmed fat. It was gross, I fed it to my dogs and even felt guilty doing that! I will have to try another chicken dish to see if they are really using white breast meat....

I go here for lunch once or twice a month and when I want to go on a good date, we go here for awesome sushi. The price is right, the amount of sushi you get is huge for the price and the staff is wonderful. I went there on Saturday night and the food was great and I can't wait for my chance to go again.

Jacky's Galaxie is delicious. Hands down. I had a delicious Mai Thai to start my night- and it definitely packed a punch. I had the Nime Chow and the Vietnamese Bee Bong. Both were absolutely fantastic. I love Nime Chow and this definitely has to be one of my favorites. We sat at the bar and watched some good shows on the history channel while talking to the super nice bartender. I've also been to the other location on Mineral Spring and it was equally as delicious. I went for lunch that day and they had fantastic lunch specials for an excellent price. Overall, this place is great if you're looking for delicious Asian cuisine and a really strong drink. It would make a great casual date night too.

My daughters favorite wings and white rice. I've gotten sick on the pad tai a few times. Wait staff are friendly though. A bit expensive for what is served.

    (2)
  • Kelly B.

I have gotten take-out from here three times in the last few months. Each time the quality of the food goes down. Last night will be my last....the food was so salty I could barely eat it, the Vietnamese Bee Bong should have crisp lettuce and bean sprouts and they were so soggy I had to toss them. Perhaps they have a new cook but the flavor of the food is lacking. Also got the Torpedo Maki which was stone cold, like it had been sitting around. I live approximately 5 minutes from this restaurant so it can't be the trip, also the food wasn't ready when I got there so I know it wasn't because I was late picking it up. Done with this. Plus the person at the cash register weather male or female is always rude.

  • Samantha I.

They've revamped their menu and decor. My boyfriend refused to go here because they didn't use white meat chicken, and I wanted to give it another try since their takeout sushi has been great. I'm so happy we went. They now use white meat chicken in their dishes and they have great dinner combos. They also have new specialty sushi rolls, I had the French roll and it was great and beautifully presented (see pic). Newly added drinks too. So happy they stepped up their game. Service still needs work though, but it's not horrible.

  • Paul P.

Nothing really to write home about. The food was OK as far as their basic Chinese food. I Really rather just go to emerald square mall and have the one from the Chinese place there. The price is high for what you really get.

    (3)
  • Ryan B.

i have had nothing but the sushi here, but I have enjoyed it many times over. Well worth the money as the quality is very good, I suggest one of their platter options which provides a very nice selection.

  • Wendy W.

We don't even bother going anywhere else for sushi anymore. The service is friendly and efficient, the sushi chef is creative and takes pride in his presentations, and the fish is always perfectly fresh. The staff remembered what we ordered after two visits, so we don't have to say a thing- they know what we like. The restaurant has s crisp, modern atmosphere and the bar is a lively spot. Great place all around!

I could have eaten here everyday when I was in RI for business. Had I had the time to do so, I would have. Every fellow employee or family member I brought to Jacky's loved their food and would come back in a heartbeat. We went here for lunch and dinner, and both times everyone at the table ate every single bite off their plate. For lunch they have the most amazing, inexpensive dishes that stuff you until you cannot breathe anymore. My fellow employees got the lo mein noodle lunch and chow mein lunch. I got the spicy sushi lunch combination. The dishes come with soup, an appetizer (chicken tenders or chicken wings) and a soup (wonton, egg drop, hot and sour). Most of the lunch dishes cost 5.50 - 6.50. My sushi was $10, but it was a ton of good quality sushi without any concerning fish smell. Delicious, delicious, delicious. Not too greasy, not fake sushi with tons of eel sauce and deep fried batter. Nice, simple, clean taste. Then I got the pad thai without soy sauce - they even understood my GF allergy! Even without soy sauce (I brought my own), that pad thai was fantastic and a perfect portion that did not make my stomach explode. I love that the shrimp in the pad thai were massive too! The next time we went my godmother had the wonton soup. I have never seen her finish an entire soup, let alone a wonton soup! She said it was the best wonton soup she's ever had. All of them said that they would come and eat at this restaurant again, and they are picky eaters! You would have never known by the outside, but this place is fantastic. Better than the hole in the wall Chinese food restaurant in every way. Thai, Chinese, Japanese and Sushi all in one restaurant? Plus, NO MSG EVER ADDED TO ANY OF THEIR FOOD? If only they were in Vegas, my belly would be fully satisfied every day.

Been here a few times. The food is always good, pad thai and sushi.Good exotic bomba dessert. Nice fish tank. Decor could be more modern, has sort of a family restaurant feel. They can do better. I prefer to sit at one of the tables near the bar. The lighting can be uncomftorably bright at night in the main room. It's like being under a spotlight, not the best lighting when it is dark outside

My grandkids wanted takeout so we ventured over to Jackie's. The prices were good, and the service excellent. Lunch time is a great value. I will take them again

  • Christine S.

I come here often and it is always consistent. I love the appetizer combos, chicken fried rice, nime chow, chicken wings, and ESPECIALLY the beef teriyaki which is tender and juicy with lots of flavor!! Some of their dishes seem to be bland such as the general tso's chicken and I usually have to add some extra soy sauce in the fried rice but other than that Jacky's Galaxie will continue to be a spot I visit. The sushi menu is also available, my fave rolls are the caterpillar, manhattan and ESPECIALLY the spicy shrimp!! Lunch specials are available which come with soup, rice and/or 2 appetizer options and/or an entrée. I took my friends here for the 1st time and they enjoyed the cuisine, so you will too!

So one of my besties (some of you may know her as "Whore") dragged me down to Rhode Island for "Asian Food." I'm always skeptical of Asian places that try to get all of Asia (except India) on to one menu. Maybe it's because I can taste the subtle and the not-so-subtle differences between Chinese food and Japanese food and Thai food and Vietnamese food and Korean food and and... Jacky's has some traditional and Americanized chinese fare, a complete sushi menu, and a handful of dishes or appetizers from Vietnam, Thailand, Cambodia... My group shared some sushi, a chicken dish, and pord fried (brown) rice. I also had a small Wonton soup. Everything was excellent and flavorful, which was unexpected. Bonus points for being able to choose the rice, which also means it wasn't pre-made. Also, you've got to love a place with a full bar. The decor is sort of modern and the location is great if you live anywhere near the first 15-20 exits of I-295. The service was very good. (One bit: I asked for iced green tea and they had honey green tea, which was okay, but it had TOO much honey. All I could taste was honey. I will get hot tea or a cocktail next time.)

New Years Eve placed a order to go at 6 pm was told 1 hour, food finally came out at 8:15 cold. This is the first and last time we order from Jacky Galaxie!

Jacky's Galaxie is great! I have been to a few of their locations, but this one more than the others. I have tried the Thai food (great), Chinese food (great) and sushi (awesome). The service is very fast and the staff is super friendly. It is pricier than your average Chinese place, but very good!

I never review a restaurant unless I've eaten there more than once or twice, and Jacky's is my favorite local go-to for sushi. It always tastes very fresh, ALL of the ingredients.. I can't say much about waitstaff as I never dine in, but the pick-up staff are always friendly and my food is always ready when I get there within 10-15 minutes. I agree the crab rangoon is some of the best around... you can actually taste the crab in it... Shocking I know!

sushi sampler - fresh fish, rice though not as fresh. spicy beef thai style with brown rice - very fresh and crunchy, meat tender not chewy, peppers and onions, not spicy (next time will order extra spicy?) water - clean, no chlorine smell for just sushi maybe an alternative to Enn in Smithfield - although less choice in sushi, sashimi and rolls for 'chinese food' so far the place to go when i stay in this area; haven't found better place yet. But, not saying this is the best ever chinese I had :-/ Came back a couple times more, cooking quality seems to vary each time - maybe different team of cooks or something.

Best sushi in northern Rhode Island! Vinny and Kim pride themselves on warm, friendly and gracious service. Everyone who walks in is made to feel at home. This is the reason you see so many "regulars"there!

we try to make it to jacky's at least once a month. the food is always great. my favorite is the fried rice made with brown rice, super yummy! their bean curd is pretty good too.

  • Doug H.

I've only eaten here once and don't really remember much about it except that I liked whatever it was I had. BUT, my wife loves this place, so I think that should count for something. I think what she gets is called nim chau. It is a paper-thin rice wrappy thing with Chinese food inside it. She talks about it a lot.

  • A Z.

We came here with a group of six and ordered many drinks and much food. It took about 20 minutes for them to take our food order but once they did, everything came rolling out quickly. Jackie's has the BEST crab rangoon and chicken pad thai, which I prefer to order extra spicy. Not much more to say, other than that I love the food here (more than the popular Asia Grille nearby) and the drinks were strong. Oh and they have some crazy big fish in the entrance fishtank worth noting.

This is a great place to have sushi! So many to choose from. And they are amazing. Very creative in the way they serve them too. They're like works of art! Yum! Great service. Our waitress was very attentive, always checking on us and bringing us what we needed. There's a bar area (with TVs) on one side, nice big aquarium, and the main dining area is spacious enough with tables and high-backed chairs/benches(?). Started off with hot tea and sushi. Shrimp, eel, tuna, salmon, and the elusive Sea Urchin!!! I was so excited. They don't have it all the time but this time they did! Lucky night! Then ordered our usual Combo Fried Rice with Pineapples. It had chicken, pork, and shrimp. Pineapples were a dollar extra. We also had the Hunan Shrimp and Beef Loc Lac. Equally delicious dishes. It was an excellent dining experience with good food all around. Respite from a cold night. We went home happy and stuffed!

I stopped in for lunch last week and really enjoyed my meal. The lunch specials are perfect, not too overwhelming and delicious. I had wanton soup to start and then I had the chicken basil lunch option. The dish came with a fresh roll and rice. The portions are perfect, i left satisfied and not overly full .

  • Bob C.

We had the Pu Pu Platter which was okay. The chicken fingers were a little cold but everything else was hot. I also had a Maki roll which was different but good.

Worst of the worst! Any Chinese Buffet offers better tasting food than this place. Get your Soy Sauce ready, you will need it...

  • Jeff M.

Its not truly awful, unlike many similar places, some even nearby, but the food here isn't terribly good either. The offerings here come as part of a very big menu, mixing in Sushi, Thai, and Seafood items with a long list of Chinese American choices. Maybe, that is the heart of the problem. They don't seem to concentrate on anything, and the food I was served didn't get the attention it needed. Our appetizer of Crispy Chicken Wings with Red Pepper was incorrectly fried. The batter coating was blonde and undercooked, and unseasoned. The plate however was generously covered in the seasonings planned for the chicken. Odder still, the chicken inside each wing was hot and juicy, and cooked rather well. Weird. The Crab Rangoons were fine, but really dull. The center filling entirely cream cheese, not a hint of crab flavor to be found. The Seared Black Pepper Crusted Tuna appetizer was served ice cold. You'd typically expect a seared appetizer to have seen at least a little bit of heat, but not this one. Further still, the quality of the tuna was mediocre at best, soft and grained with more connective tissue than you'd normally want it to have. Staple choices of Chicken Lo Mein, overcooked, and Pork fried rice, under-flavored, were disappointing. And the Chicken with Lemongrass sauce was both loose and grainy. D+, not so great.

  • Chantee L.

My boyfriend and I ate here on Valentine's Day. Food is really mediocre not something I would travel all the way here for if I'm craving chinese food. Walnut Shrimp was delicious though. I love da decor and interior. It was pretty pleasant considering that we did went there on Valentine's Day and it was a Saturday. Overall, okay food and good service. If ever I'm in town and hungry I'll probably stop by again.

Poor service. Tempura is not cooked properly. Only if you order lot of food they will respond to you. Poor food recently

Come eat if you're starving, you wouldn't care about the warmness or quality of the food. We ordered probably three main dishes with three orders of sushi and the food came out one at a time yet it was cold??? It wasn't that great tasting either. As for the Sushi, I do not recommend ordering at all, the quality and taste were disappointing. Servers were not as attentive as they should be. We came in around an hour or two before they were closing and they simply concentrated on making the tables instead of attending to our needs. It took us 10 minutes to waive down a waitress. She was kind by all means, but if you work at a restaurant, a customer service based, do what is needed (clean up, set tables) but still be aware of your customers...number one rule. The only thing I probably enjoyed was the coconut icecream. But even that, it was melting by the time it got to us. I don't get it.

Stopped in for dinner last night and I was not impressed with the service or the food. The waitress seemed annoyed. The calamari was greasy and the chicken was rubbery.

I've come here for lunch several times. Very hit or miss. The one consistent item from all of my visits has been the nime chow. Many items are good, but I've definitely had better closer to home in Providence.

So bummed! I found a huge chunk of a PLASTIC nutrition label in my takeout soup. Whoops!

  • Frances T.

I've gotten take out here two times and both times I was disappointed. The pad Thai was extremely bland. None of the entrees come with rice. The duck sauce was watered down. Overall, not a good experience.

  • Janet C.

Sorry to say that I won't be back. My husband and I tried this restaurant and was very disappointed. The food was very bland and I couldn't force myself to eat it. Maybe other locations are OK but the Cumberland location was not good.

My favorite Chinese place! Great sushi and the best place to bring friends for scorpion bowls. The waitresses don't speak great English but I like it that way! They are really sweet and always bring you refills on your drinks. It is also very clean !

  • Jaime L.

Always my go to reliable sushi spot! They have great food, comfortable environment, attentive staff with very affordable sushi prices. Vast selection of Japanese and Chinese food makes it easy to go with a large crowd so everyone is happy with menu selections. They have a small bar area and a lounge to accommodate small or large parties. I've asked the chef to surprise me with some sushi creation and let me tell you I've been WOWED! Great place bottom line. Even great to get take out.

Jacky's is one of the better Asian restaurants in Northern RI. They have a large menu to choose from, fast, and reasonably priced. If you cant decide if you want Thai, Chinese, Japanese, or Vietnamese, fear not Jacky's can make your decision easy because they have it all. I always start off with the Nime Chow it is some of the best around. I am always tempted to try other dishes but normally end up getting either Vietnamese Bee Bong, Pad Thai, or Thai Basil Chicken. The serving is huge and all are a great value for what you get. If you are looking for one of your traditional scorpion bowls or other mixed drinks you see the pictures of on the menu, they are strong and delicious! The lunch menu is also 2nd to none. You have your choice between about 15 or 20 dishes and they all come with soup and a side for under $10! They also have sushi but compared to all of their other food, I find it good not great. Stop on by and try it out if you are in the area. They have a nice dinning room but I like to sit at the bar, if its empty they let you put whatever you want on TV and the bartenders are always friendly and fun to talk with!

  • Kate D.

My 100th review goes to one of my favorite places to grab sushi in the area! I've been coming to Jacky's Galaxie for a couple of years now. While I can mostly speak for the bar experience and mostly to their sushi, I still really enjoy the staff there who works throughout the restaurant. The sushi is absolutely amazing. Salmon lovers - TAKE NOTE: Every time I go, I get the Fire Roll. This roll consists of fresh salmon laid across the top, with salmon and avocado in the middle as well, with a little bit of hot sauce. It is the best sushi roll that I have ever had... in my life. I don't even think it's on the menu, so if you go and want to try out something absolutely delicious - I recommend that. My one complaint is that as a regular, I had been getting those for so long and one day I came in and they nearly doubled the price of the roll. They had claimed that they didn't make any money on the roll with the way it was priced but as someone who went there multiple times a week and ordered it and was a known regular, I guess I was surprised that they didn't cut me a break. People in the restaurant claimed that the owner did not care about regulars - which was a little disappointing. Overall, I really enjoy the bartenders - they always know your name, your order and what you drink. They're kind and attentive. I've also come here for Chinese and thought it was pretty good food as well. While a little expensive for the area, I'd recommend coming and giving it a chance.

Really wasn't impressed with my experience for take out here. I got the L 28 (General Tso's) which comes with chicken wings and fried rice--here are my pros and cons Pros Re-usable container All white chicken meat 15 minute wait Only $7.50 Cons Rice and chicken were really mushy--appears to have been reheated almost Sauce was very watery Pieces not easy to manipulate with chopsticks, really big and flimsy Chicken wings were very tough, probably reheated, not freshly fried. Honestly, I probably will not come here again and will stick to Fortune House. I've been to Jackie's in North Providence, and was hoping for the same caliber, but I was sadly disappointed.

Consistently good food. The miso soup was served piping hot and hit the spot on a chilly Sunday. Cloudy with lots of green, I didn't mind that the tofu pieces were smaller than a leprechaun's dice. The nim chow....yummily gelatinous. Eat it. Eat the spring rolls, too. I miss them! I often order the Singapore noodles without shoyu. I must eat GF and Jackie's does not have GF soy sauce. Bummer dat. However, the noodles taste like nothing is missing. I try REALLY HARD to copy their recipe at home. The Asian pear martini was strong. I didn't finish it. Sacrilege to waste Grey Goose pear. :( Try The Kitchen on Hope St in Providence for an awesome pear martini! Good stuff...extensive sushi/sashimi menu. Drinks are just okay but they do offer Chi Chi's in a ceramic coconut shell cup. If you're already tipsy and missing Hawaii, they'll do.

The servers need more personality and be more on the ball. Good is good, place is nice. Just some of the servers not happy and very short with customers. I haven't been back in a while.

Chinese Cuisine

The popularity of Chinese food in America can be adjudicated by the appearance of China Town in many major cities in the United State of America. The popular trend of ordering or opting for Chinese take away food isn't unknown in America. Chinese take away food comes to rescue when you're too tired from work or too exhausted to cook. No one can resist the temptation of eating spicy noodles, shrimp, chicken, beef or pork cooked in the sweet and spicy sauce. The cooking method of authentic Chinese food is a lot different compared to what is served in America.

Generally, Chinese use dark meat small bones and organs to cook dishes but this changes when you are eating American-Chinese fusion food prepared using white boneless meat cooked with broccoli, carrots and onions. Back in China, the food is less spicy and oily as they favor steaming and braising method for cooking the most popular dishes. So, if you have a taste for authentic Chinese food, then try finding a real Chinese restaurant in the city. You can also try the most popular fusion Chinese food like Pecking Duck, Chicken Feet, Hot Pot, Shrimp Dumpling Soup, Mapo Tofu, Wontons, Chop Suey, Egg Rolls and not to forget Fortune Cookies.

There are not many restaurants in America serving authentic Chinese food. A little research on Restaurant Listings directory can help you locate the best Chinese restaurants in the city. Chinese cuisine is continuously evolving, and you can find a variety of dishes categorized as the food for lactose intolerant, gluten intolerant, vegan, vegetarian, and diabetic friendly. So, if you have a group of friends with different taste patterns, save the hassle and visit the nearest Chinese restaurant in your city.
