YUCK YUCK YUCK YUCK!!!! enough said, everything has gone down hill. no more raw clams, sushi lacks options, and the habachi station was a really useless and bad addition because the ingredients doesnt look fresh. screw this place. and was charged $43 out of 3 people. i felt too ripped off

First time entering the restaurant was yelled what do you want ? Really okay.. So Hibachi station was nice I felt the guy cooking could had done better. Crab Rangoon was raw.. Other then that enjoy the sea food which was fresh !!! Would try again just for the seafood ..

I never expect much from a buffet and I usually give at least 2 marks for an effort made. None can be given here. While not filthy this place was far from clean. The food was bland and over cooked in many cases. The hot and sour soup was neither hot or sour. The general t's chicken was bland and tough. I am not a Sushi fan so I can't speak about the sushi bar. The security guard parked by the front door makes you wonder. I came here as I have been to another buffet in town a few times and thought I would branch out. I doubt very much that I will be back here.

Okay, so the food is good like the reviews say the coconut chicken is one of a kind and the sushi is tasty. The freshness of the seafood is a little questionable, especially if you're going to eat raw things like the clams and shrimp. The service is low to none all they do is serve drinks and take your plates but some people would say that's perfect service for a buffet. This place is pretty scary to go to especially during busy times (dinner and weekends) the people are loud and obnoxious, it brought back high school cafeteria memories. The reason why I'm giving this place 2 stars is because I'm practically convinced that these waitresses don't get paid much. I do not encourage anyone to visit an establishment where people are being paid very low. After I left a hefty tip on the credit card slip the waitress continued to ask me for a tip. Now that was not only embarrassing for me as a customer but I also felt really bad because I only had my credit card on me. I am convinced the owners withhold credit card tips from the waitresses. If you do decide to go to this buffet please leave a cash tip.

Went on a Sunday after church. Not a bad wait. I don't typically do buffets at all ( got bullied by my kids) But the food was fresh and hot and seemed sanitary. The crab ran good and the chicken teriyaki was probably the best for me. The do have a variety of food both. Asian and Americam fare including a salad bar. Not bad for the price. Like $8 per person.

We've tried this restaurant a bunch of times and in our opinion it's the best buffet in Rhode Island. It's cheap, a lot of different kinds of food from pizza and ice cream to sea food and steak. Dissadvantages: Chinese food is very Americanized, noisy, a lot of people no matter when you come, some of them look like from ghetto. Items you may like: hot sour soup, chocolate cake, sushi, shrimps.

I've eaten at Royal Buffet dozens of times. Some of the food is good, some is not so good. It's a wonderful restaurant if you stick to the good stuff. The strong point is the American-style Chinese food. If you like egg rolls, spare ribs, sweet and sour chicken, egg foo yung, and that sort of thing, this place is great. it's a much better deal, especially with children, than going to a regular hole-in-the-wall Chinese restaurant. On the other hand, when the menu items range into the more exotic, things do not go well. The dim sum is consistently overcooked, but it's not awful. The sushi is edible but largely tasteless, and in the worst case has the consistency of pencil erasers, but this is about average for buffet sushi. Fresh fruits, including melons, pears, and pineapples, are pretty good although they obviously came out of a can. Desserts are a strength, with the usual buffet supply of cookies and pastries augmented by actual slices of cakes and pies in a refrigerated self-serve case and two soft-serve ice cream machines, one with chocolate and vanilla and the other with strawberry and vanilla. The staff are always very courteous and attentive, certainly more polite than many of the customers. At certain times, it is common for very young children to be running amok, bumping into people and things with wild abandon, all under the oblivious eyes of their parents. I can't blame the restaurant for this, and they do have signs conspicuously warning that children must be accompanied by an adult, but customers often ignore this. The parking lot is enormous and shared in the same plaza, the Cranston Parkade, with K-Mart and Stop and Shop.

There is a wide selection but from what I tried none of it was very good. My companion for the night said it well there was they offered way too much of a selection.
(2)Claire L.
Tried this for the first time. It does not deserve a star. I got FOOD POISONING from the stuff. I had chicken w. Broccoli, fried rice, lo mein and sweet & sour chicken. I'm definitely going to get in contact with the Food Safety Department don't want anyone else to be sick. My friends said that less and less people are going to that place now I see why!!!!

The real draw is the sushi and sashimi. The sushi chef is very good and make your order to your specifications. In love the salmon sashimi and tofu skin sushi with shrimp. The wait staff is a little nutty. Most are from Fuzhou in Communist China, but for the most part, they're ok.

I gave this place three stars because I am obsessed with their coconut chicken. Also because my boyfriend loves the food. Don't go late at night though because the food is gross. Their service is very mediocre too.

Shoot yourself before you go to this disgusting place. The hibachi is a joke as well.

This is a tough one. Location is close, price is decent, selections are abundant..., but it feels like a prision cafeteria with the other restaurant goers that you find there. The plaza itself is pretty rough....I mean, you have homeless, panhandlers, ....mothers either dragging babies around by the arm or not walking near their babies (in traffic) at all... loud, vulgar conversations .... just a scary place to eat. The chicken teriyaki and egg rolls are amazing and not greasy at all, and you dont find coconut chicken or green and red bell pepper sushi just anywhere. It makes it almost worth wondering if you'll be shanked on the way up for ambrosia salad!

.........Was getting sick again, so avoided this place for months. Decidedto give it another try since food is so good, and - wait for it - THEY CHANGED COOKS (or so I was told I think in broken English). Have now been happily returning, have been back 6 times since without illness. So again revamping review, hopefully for the last time. Although I still have to say that using Purell after every trip up is a great idea (think of how many hands have used their serving spoons, kids included), and maybe a cursory cleaning of your utensils before diving in is a must.

Came here during lunch service and the food was just ok. Not the best or worst buffet but solidly in the middle. They serve standard Chinese American food and a small selection of sushi items. All the food I tasted was hot and seemed fresh. I noticed that the staff was good at replenishing the food, so there weren't many stale looking items left sitting out. A few things were bland, but most were pretty good. The atmosphere can get a little loud at times though. But, overall, it's a good place for family dining, if said family is not too fussy about their Chinese food.

Well, The cost isnt the cheapest.(12$ p/ person).but the waitors are very attentive...Buffett had the most diverse I have ever seen in the area..Overall quality is pretty good for a buffet...travelled 1/2 hour to get here..Not disappointed, but not sure if I would travel again..
(4)Timothy W.
Mediocre in both taste and offering, plus the dinner buffet (which had nothing "special") was $12. The General's chicken was slathered in sauce, the egg rolls were bland, and the sushi was pretty tasteless. The staff was great, though, and the place was nice. I just wish I could say the same for the food. Very, very average.

I come here every so often and I am never disappointed. There is a good variety of food. My favorite dish is the coconut chicken. The hibachi chicken is also delicious. I usually only eat a little because I like to go hardcore on the crab legs. They never leave the pan empty for too long of a time. The crab legs are usually piled high and steamy! The place is always loaded with some interesting people being that it is located in a multicultural part of the city! Overall the food is always fresh and the staff is always quick and friendly. This is your typical buffet place but the food I dare say in my opinion is just a little bit better than the other typical chinese buttets around. I say more like 3.5 stars leaning to 4.
(3)Jeff J.
Can I call it 3.75 stars without going to 4? That's about where it rates. After a recent stay at a hospital on my way out I decided the food there needed to be topped by something else, something more fulfilling. At Royal Buffet, you get a large selection. If you play it right you could realistically sit there from open to closing as long as your stomach can handle it. I only knew about this place from the previous reviews on here. Needed to try something new as Hometown and HK Buffet have been visited enough times. Did I need a bib to contain myself? No. It didn't quite happen like that, but like I said, after consuming hospital food for a day I think these 2 previous reviews were accurate in every way. Lots to choose from, the interior was kept well maintained for the most part. Recommended if you're going for a different buffet. For the price, I think it was $7.95 for lunch... difficult to beat that. The pizza seemed out of place out there, but I was happy with everything else consumed.

As strong as my distaste is for the elusive buffet, this is like, the most booty shakin, heart valve replacin, heart burn inducin Chinese buffet I've ever been to. Unlike the others, Royal is a mixed bag fusion of Latin and Americanized Asian dishes, which basically equals, yum-o. The food is consistently delicious, plentiful and always, always fresh. "A buffet? Fresh?" you wonder. Yup. Even if the pan is stacked high, if it's been more than about 45 minutes, it gets emptied and immediately replaced with a fresh batch. I won't deny that this is ultimately wasteful, but I also won't deny that the idea of any food being left out in a steam pan for more than an hour for little hands to grab is completely sketchy and a little gross (hello, bacteria?). This is primarily why I don't touch buffet type places to begin with. However Royal, is the exception. Their selection of food is also totally different from the many buffets I've been dragged to: sure they have the usual chicken with broccoli & co, but aside from the difference of spices and flavours, they also have an array of other tastes such as fried plantains, chopped steak with pepper, collard greens and rice and beans plus a sushi bar included at no extra cost. The only downside to this fab restaurant, is the location. At any given time the dining area is literally packed to the brim with screaming children, yelling tweens and big chicks with stretch pants. I've found the only possible way to avoid this is to show up for an early lunch when they open Sunday morning (11 am) while everyone is still either at church or chowing down breakfast at the iHop. Baby mamas aside, this joint is hot, hot, hot. Best Chinese buffet hands down for your bucks.

I used to love coming here, there food was fab!!! Only thing that got to me is the waitress stalking me acting like I'm gonna run out without paying literally breathing down my neck and some were extremely rude!. Well the last few times I've went here I was DISGUSTED!!! As I was sitting down with my plate I felt something under the edge of my plate.....and guess what? A squished roach was against the plate. I was disgusted, me and my friends left. I stopped going for a long time but one late afternoon of drinking I got super munchies and decided to go back despite my last experience their food is delicious. One of my favs is crab Rangoon, well for some reason I broke open my Rangoon before eating it(I never do that normally) and there was some sort of insect covered in the cream cheese of the crab Rangoon. Before freaking out I poured water over it trying to figure out if it was just dark parsley or something but no...it was a bug. I hate giving bad reviews but I was absolutely disgusted, I told the waitresses and they looked at me like I was crazy but told me I didn't have to pay and as I'm walking out, the waitresses are making fun of a obese man piling his plate high and making piggy noises holding their nose which was just disrespectful.

After reading the reviews, I was very excited to try the Royal Buffet. When I arrived, I was guided to a booth with 2 leather torn seats. The paper placemats where wrinkled, as in either used or placed on a wet table. I was somewhat dissapointed but given the price, I was willing to keep an open mind. The restaurant has about 8 buffet trays filled with a variety of items. The first buffet tray was filled with fried items, wings, egg rolls, strange pastries, and 4 types of soup. The second buffet tray was filled with jello, fruits, and pickled vegetables. The third buffet was filled with rare beef (carve yourself), ham mold (??), mystery meats, and so on. The fourth buffet was filled with plaintains (tasted sour?), and other miscellaneous. The fifth buffet was filled finally with favorite chinese dishes. Unfortunately the pepper beef was RAW, but seared on the outside. Probably designed to cook slowly over a few hours. At that point, I realized I might be sick because I had eaten 5 pieces. The last few where unusually chewy so I took them out of my mouth and looked at them. RAW. ugh.... I ate a few chinese donuts and quickly left. The seafood tasted off and the eel was kept in a LARGE pile on a toaster oven plate that went from toaster oven (for 30 secs) to FRIDGE.... Watch the "sushi chef" - a chinese woman with little english, who slaps fish on rice and "rolls" up the mashed mess! I not only question their safe food handling practices, I question if I might actually be poisoned! I got really scared at eating anything with mayonaise, etc... I pity the fool who eats here. Buyer BEWARE! Call in the health dept!

As far as I know, there isn't a Chinese buffet with any Michelin Stars, and if there were this wouldn't be one of them, but as Chinese buffets go this one is pretty good. They have a great selection of foods, from Americano fare to dim sum, and the turnover of food, as already mentioned by Marlena G., is reassuring that the food you're eating is relatively fresh and new. One of my favorites is the hibachi chicken w/ onions, it has a great smokey flavor and the onions have a real grilled taste to them. The Chinese donuts are great, not too greasy as donuts go, and with a perfect amount of sugar. There are fresh fruits, tapioca pudding is satisfying and you have to save room for the apple turnover which is very good. Also they had this steak and cheese turnover that was very tastey. The service was very good, after living in the south for a while, where your water or sweet tea never falls below half a glass, I tend to rate service on how empty my glass gets before being asked or just refilled. Mine never got below a quarter of the glass, which I consider pretty attentive, especially considering the place was packed and it's a buffet. I don't think I can give more than 3 stars to any Chinese buffet, it would take meaning away from other reviews I intend to write, but this does get a solid 3 stars, and if all I reviewed were buffets, not only would I be much larger, I would have to give this one a hard 4 out of 5.

I love this place. The first buffet where I don't feel 5 inches of grease on my pallet after eating there. The (limited) but made fresh to order sushi is a plus. Great tasting General Tso and reasonable prices. Staff is friendly and fast. I go here a lot and you should to! They also have a banquet room in back with own bar!

I love going here when I can't decide what kind of Chinese food I want. This way I can have a little bit of everything. Also, they have sushi!!!!! It is also very clean and the food is really good!
