O'Rourke's is a cute little Irish pub in Pawtuxet Village ..it has live music on several nights which is a plus as they usually have good performers. They have the usual suspects on draft...the downfall i've found is the food. The taste of the food is good, but the portions over the last year have grown smaller. When they first opened a couple of years ago the Corned beef sandwich was three fingers high..my last two visits was one. I don't mind paying a higher price if thhings go up as they are in the industry...i just feel cheated when I am still hungry after paying for a sandwich...that's why i'm not going back.

Not great. I live nearby and was hopeful about the investment they made in this location, essentially gutting the whole building. But it lacks any real character as a result. The food is "meh". Not terribly expensive, but not great quality either. The only time I've been back is when it's a nice day and you can sit outside with a drink. The Irish Nachos aren't too bad, but not worth a special trip.

This is a place that tries real hard to appear "authentically Irish" which means this in reality: It's got a clover on the door or something and some of workers appear to carry an irish accent...feigned? Who knows, seems unlikely this is a place that draws all the restaurant working Irish immigrants in Rhode Island...hmm. As for the food, it's your basic pub food, meaning it's alot of burgers, some trumped up steaks and even more trumped up prices! It definitely tries to cater to an upscale slightly alcholic crowd from the Neighborhood and then the locals who slide in late for some beers. The wings are great, the nachos are little dicey but overall, the food is pretty good pub grub-no complaints there. In fact, they have rocking fish and chips, some of the best I ever ate. Now for the lowdown: From the waitstaff to the bartenders, if you are not the local (meaning Village living) white folks that drink daily with an attitude, you'll get waitstaff and bartendar attitude. More than several of my friends who have visited who were either gay or other than white, reported very mixed signals from the waitstaff, especially bartendars, including being ignored and being treated like outright crap as if they are doing you a favor to serve you. I never understand why the "help" need to act as if they are part of village rich because they work in a rich little village. For that reason alone, I'd avoid this place like the plague. Who needs to pay TOO much money for overpriced drinks and pub food you can get at many good pubs for their bull****? Their outside seating is a draw in the summer and likely worth it since you won't be sitting in the face of some ignorant bartender who couldn't afford to dine their much him or herself but has the attitude like they can...BTW the kitchen help, whom you don't ge to see except smoking outside-all look like latin immigrants (no not hispanic Americans) of questionable legal status. Howz that for a classy joint? Go to East Street Cafe AKA Doughterys in the East End-you'll be treated better, the food is head's above and it's a REAL Irish pub.

Been going to O'roukes for few years now. It's a hard core Irish bar (St. Patrick's day is insane there). They have the BEST french fries (hand cut/hand made) and tuna salad. Prices aren't horrible, but not a cheap place to eat. I'm gluten free and JK (chef) always makes sure my food is okay. The staff is fun and the entertainment Irish (most of the time). Great neighbourhood bar, and since it's in a historic district, it does tend to get a share of the tourist trade, but everyone is very nice. You can feel free to go there alone, or just stop in for lunch.

This place is absolutely filthy. The bathrooms are destroyed. I would never eat here. Almost sure to make one sick. Sat out on the patio which is also filthy. Cigarette butts and old food on the ground that never gets cleaned. There's a sign that says no dogs. I wouldn't let my dog lay in that crap anyway, thanks. Asked what beers they had, waitresses response was "I don't know". We sat and stared at each other for a minute. Then she asks "What? Do you want me to go look?". No, I want to sit here and play with myself, dumbass. One and done. If it wasn't for all the senile old people, this place would be out of business.

Cute little pub in Pawtuxet Village, great for meeting up with friends. The menu is small, but what they do, they do well. I'm obsessed with the Irish nachos, which are made with homemade potato chips in lieu of tortilla chips, and they put just the right amount of toppings over them so that there's stuff on each bite. They don't have anything too fancy or special on tap, but the beer prices are not bad at all. I just wish they had more for "summer beers" besides Sam summer and Blue Moon. A shandy would be nice! Their patio dining is lovely but always packed when it's nice outside. Parking is also kind of a pain in the ass since they don't have a designated lot anywhere. Even with the downsides, the staff is always super nice and attentive!

Great Sangria, Irish Nachos, and their lobster roll is killer... Scenic and fun.

This was one of the worst dinning experiences I have ever had. We called ahead, asking if they could accommodate a party of about 15 people. The one of the staff members informed us that it would not be a problem, and they would seat us on the patio. When we arrived at the restaurant, no more than 30 minutes later, the staff told us that we would not be able to sit outside, but they should be able to seat us inside. It was not until we stayed that we were going to find somewhere else to eat that they decided to find a way to seat us on the patio. We then began ordering drinks, and were told that the restaurant did not have kids cups, and were out of apple juice. At this time, one of the other servers came over and informed our server that they were completely out of all forms of chicken. When she finally brought the drinks out, she only brought half of them. In our group we also had a couple of people with dietary restrictions. One of the young ladies expressed that she could not eat anything fried, and asked if she would be ok with the fish tacos. The server stayed that she would be. The other young lady, after asking for an allergen list or gluten free menu and being told there was not one, asked if she could get the cod without the Ritz crackers, and was told that they were also out of that. She then decided she would talk "The Frank" without any bread and a side salad with no croutons and oil and vinegar dressing. When the fish tacos came out they had fried fish therefore, the young lady could not eat them. When "The Frank" came out it was on a bun. The young lady stated that she could not eat it because the bread would make her very sick, and that they could not just take it off the bread because it would still make her sick, so the server took it back to have it remade. However, moments later, the plate came out with the sausage on the plate and bread crumbs all over the plate. On top of this, several individuals ordered appetizers that came out with the meal. Also, when we asked if they had any bread, popcorn, or something along those lines for the kids to eat until the meals came out, they told us no. Finally, about 30 minutes after ordering, the meals stated coming out of the kitchen. Once the server had handed out all of the food she had on the trays, she asked if we were missing anything. We informed her that we were missing 5 meals still, one of which was a child's. At this time the owner came out and told is that they had run out of food, so she would be happy to comp the meals that we did not receive. We asked if there was a way we could get something as simple as a grilled cheese at least, and she said should would bring out a couple. When she did bring them out they were nothing more than two piece of toast with cheese in the middle, the cheese had not even melted. Before the bill even came to us, we watched the owner get in her car and drive away leaving no manager there to make sure everything else was ok. When we got the bill 2 of the meals that had not come out were still on the bill and nothing had actually been compensated of the 3 orders that were messed up. After giving us much attitude, the other two meals were taken off the bill and two of the orders that were messed up were also. Needless to say none of us will ever be going back there and I would not suggest anyone else go there either.

We had a great summer dinner here. We walked to the village and grabbed a seat outside. The service was very friendly. I had the corned beef reuben and my husband had the fish sandwich. We loved the food and the setting was perfect. So much so that we completely ignored the loud. obnoxious drunk lady at the table next to us. We've had good experiences sitting inside and outside with the kids but his is definitely a place where the crowd can vary depending on the entertainment, etc.

We stopped here for lunch on a rainy Saturday afternoon. Note that in poor weather you have to enter using the side door instead of the front. People were sitting at all sections of the bar and at one table in the back, but it was definitely not packed. The crowd at 1 pm was older and it seemed to be mostly regulars and neighborhood locals who all knew each other. The food portions were hefty. I had the clam chowder and an order of potato skins. The size of the clam chowder was standard, but the potato skins had 6 gigantic potato skins! They were nice and crispy with a good amount of bacon. My only complaint is that they had too much cheese on them. (But they still were great!) My husband had the shaved steak sandwich. It was slightly overcooked, but it was very tasty. The portions was huge and he was unable to finish his plate. Overall, it was a nice place for lunch and we'll probably be back in the future.
(4)Donna R.
Well it is a great spot as far as location but I can honestly say I've never been impressed with anything I have eaten here. Tonight no different...Luke warm clam chowder...filthy silverware btw, ice cold well done steak sandwich...untoasted role plus I ordered it medium. Cold fries...waxy sliced tomato. Anyway I told the waiter at the end of the meal which is when he came back and he apologized and said they were having problems with the register...oh...really? He took my SODA off the bill.
(2)Chops M.
As far as bars in the "Village" it's as good as it gets for food n drink. Take that with a grain of salt. Older croud. Fairly local crowd. Bartenders can be friendly. Slightly divey dirty though, which is fine if you are fine with that. Food generally decent. Nothing special otherwise. Nice outdoor seating thru the warm days. Live music often.
(3)Jaki G.
Okay I've been back and have accepted it for what it is. I ordered a cornbeef sandwich and it was excellent. I also sat outside and I think that helps make a difference, I'm less likely to interact w the usual crowd whom I don't seem to care for.
(3)Stephen P.
The food here is decent, but the service is absolutely horrible. I had to wait 55 minutes for my chowder, let alone my food. The bus girl took my drink order, my food order, and brought my food. I never even met my actual waitress. I would say don't take the risk, or if you do, don't sit on the outside deck.

I came in a few weeks ago on a Saturday night around 8:30. It wasn't that busy and there was a guy on an acoustic guitar. We got bar seats in the back corner and ordered a few beers. So far so good. We ordered the Irish Nachos and settled in. This is where it went off the rails. Some obnoxious super drunk young kid and his gf came in and sat right next to us. This kid was terrible. The whole time this kid is yelling, singing (not the songs the guy was playing) and banging his hand on the bar. The whole place was staring at him in disbelief. Now, I understand this isn't the O'Rourke's fault, but the bartender proceeded to serve him 6 Jack on the rocks in about an hours time. Unacceptable. I am all for getting nuts on the weekends but this was neither the place or time. It was 9pm and the crowd was mostly older folks. The nachos were good but the toppings were all heaped on top so we were left with a big pile of dry chips. Not good chip to topping ratio. I'd probably stop back if I was in the area but wouldn't go out of my way to go here.
(3)Vicki A.
The staff is very friendly and it's a nice place for locals and visitors alike, but the food's not great and the drink prices aren't overly good. It's a basic pub with the standard menu (drinks and food alike) but what makes O'Rourke's special is that the staff is always attentive and friendly and they chat you up without being annoying. Every time I go, they're very nice and good with the service. O'Rourkes also has a great patio that you can enjoy when the weather's good! When looking at options for a quite drink in Pawtuxet Village, O'Rourke's is probably my favorite spot.
(4)Melissa S.
I feel like I am being picky, I am handing out a lot of 3 stars lately but really guys, places are just not working hard enough to impress me. I love the village, Pawtuxet Village is part of my childhood. Gaspee days, Dear Hearts, come on!!! This is a smaller bar with a nice outdoor seating section. The service was god awful though. It took forever to get menus and then forever for the waitress to come back and see if we wanted to actually eat anything. Go to drink, you will be better off. The nachos were however delicious and made with kettle cooked chips and potatoes and oh man I almost increased this review just based on them. Almost... I will however go back because there is something about an Irish Pub in the this area doing well that is important to me. I hope next time around I can say I love it.
(3)Sarah V. M.
I have such good associations with our local pub. It was at O'Rourke's that my husband and I decided last December we wanted to make an offer on our house in Pawtuxet Village. We have been back many times since. Perfect for drafts, pub grub, and some sun on the outdoor patio in the summer (should it ever arrive in 2011!). If you're going to try for outside on a nice day, you should be there by 4:15, or you'll be waiting until the sun's down.
(4)Lawrence D.
Excellent fish-n-chips, and huge selection of beers, outdoor dining in a relaxed atmosphere and a great location near the harbor. Portions were large. Only negative was that the service is a bit relaxed but not a deal breaker by any means. Enjoy.
(4)Jay D.
Feeling lucky? This irish restaurant/bar is a great 'newer' addition to pawtuxett village. The food is yummies--typical bar food--, it has a pretty decent sized outdoor patio + the servers are extremely nice. I don't particularly like how all the drinks come in plastic cups but its not a big deal. They have live entertainment from time to time + can we just talk about the French onion soup for a second? It is OMG melt in your mouth amazingness. The quesadillas are also quite tasty as well. There is on street parking. If you want a low key neighborhood pub WITHOUT a bunch of drunk tweens this is your kind of place.

Went to O'Rourke's for after dinner drinks... Inside at the bar area was full so, we sat on the patio which was charming especially with the small waterfall across the street. We had high hopes until we met our waitress.... (insert horror movie suspense music here...) Since this was our first visit to O'Rourke's we asked for a drink menu and the waitress said... "Ah, sorry... we don't have one." we got no suggestions or anything of the sort for what to try, then she just stared at us... I asked what they had on tap, and she rattled off several beers. I picked my old stand by, Sam Summer. The mister asked what kind of brandy they had and the waitress had no clue. Her response was "I'll check and be right back." Roughly 5-7 minutes goes by, the waitress comes back and says... "Well, we have Cognac, Cavoss... something, and the house one. Which would you like?" He ended up ordering some whiskey as he was still unable to determine what kind of brandy they actually had... a couple of more minutes goes by and the Sam Summer came out (sans the lemon which traditionally accompanies the drink). She dropped the drink off then ran away quickly so i was unable to ask for the lemon until the mister's whiskey came out... Over 45 minutes start to finish for 1 drink each seems pretty unreasonable. Luckily, we flagged down the hostess for our check otherwise it would have been longer. The waitress really ruined our experience here. She looked overwhelmed, had a scowl on her face, and generally disinterested in being there. Pros: There was another waitress working the opposite end of the patio who was bright, bubbly, and attentive. (No wonder why her section was full.) The natural setting of the patio section was nice as well. Cons: 2 drinks came to $13+ tip and the service was horrible. Drinks were also served in plastic cups which was a little underwhelming. I don't think we were the only people unimpressed about the waitresses lack luster personality as the other wait staff were talking about her. (We sat close to the Oyster bar where they were congregating and overheard.) In looking at the other reviews for this establishment it appears this wasn't a fluke. I won't be returning.

Chelsea deserves a raise.

This is a decent restaurant to get soup and sandwich for lunch. Generous portions. Red chowder is a must, along with the Reuben sandwich.
(4)Paul W.
OK Pub Grub. OK atmosphere. Service was good, We sat at the bar, I think you get a better drink there!. I had the whole fried clams -very good and a VERY large portion. My buddies had Shepherds Pie, Garlic WIngs (crispy and yummy), homemade potato chips with homemade salsa and all were happy with selections. Bartender was attentive on a gray Saturday afternoon. Mix of locals, fancy boys, and old time drinkers. I would go back for the outdoor dining. nice patio. Not a go-out-of-my-way-for-place, but decent. I did not experience the neglect or attitude others have written about., Lobster Roll was also a big hit. The specials list had a number of interesting items - not sure how often it changes though. 3 stars is fair I think
(3)Krysten S.
I truly love this place. The food is awesome, atmosphere is fantastic, and LOVE the outdoor seating. What I didn't love, was the terribly RUDE waitress I encountered. A bartender was talking to a friend of mine and this nasty girl said " have your beer goggles on?".. VERY loudly. He was being a friendly bar tender! I obviously will go back, the place is awesome! But I sure hope that girl doesn't last long!
(3)Mark C.
I was pleased that after what seemed to be an eternity that the site of the former "Gaspee Lounge" was replaced with this fairly decent structure. The pub food is okay, but I agree with others, it is not really an Irish pub. So if it is an Irish pub only in name, that wants to serve food, a few healthy alternatives would be appreciated. The bartenders are the only staff that seem to be able to keep up with the customers.
(2)Dani G.
Umm....no. Thats all i have to say. It is cute inside and I think that the establishment means well...but they do not have enough staff to cover the capacity. One waiter...his name was Sean..and I have to say I don't even blame him because he started off his introduction with a funny.."My name is Sean and later tonight when you get angry at me you can call me(and he yells) SEAN" Ha Ha...lttle did I know...i'd be feeling like yelling. It was a Friday and the placed filled up quickly. Sean was covering 12 tables and he didn't seem to have a system...some were waiting for drinks for a long time while others who had come in after were already getting their food. I realized pretty early on that in order to move your experience along you just had to be outspoken and get Sean's attention. I observed other tables not to do that and they sat with their menus for the entire time I was in the restaurant. The food was mediocre and the prices were reasonable. Sorry Sean, I am sure you are a nice guy but you need to know when to ask for assistance...I actually thought about getting up there to help because it was painful to watch...nobody walked out and nobody seemed to become escalated...this may be the norm for the Pawtuxet village dining scene???? I may try out the local restaurants again but I will not re-enter O'Rourke's .
(2)N A.
Nice because it's convenient to the area/water. Cute for a date not really for the kids though they were polite/nice about us having our baby with. We sat outside (there is smoking allowed-yuck), great for people watching. Food was good, sweet potato fries were great and so was steak sandwich. Prices are to be expected as you are by the water its middle of the road not pricey not cheap (8-14 sandwich)
(3)Steve S.
I decided to give O'Rourke's another try after my last visit in Sept. 2012. We sat on patio. The waiter addressed us, took are drink order, and returned with our drinks promptly. So far so good. We ordered are meals (baked scrod, clam chowder, and chicken salad sandwich. Our meals came in short order, sans the chowder, and no utensils or napkins. Asked the waiter for utensils and napkins. Rather then to give this request his prime objective, the waiter proceeded to wait on another table first. Not wanting our meals to get cold I went inside and helped my self to utensils and napkins. The Baked Scrod was tasteless, with not a hint of "garlic butter." The topping looked like oyster crackers more than "Ritz" crackers. The "New England Clam Chowder" was tasteless, full of celery, thin broth, and no clams. Drinks (Sangria and Smithwicks Ale) were good, however. My advice is the same, order a couple of drinks, enjoy the patio ambiance, and eat elsewhere. But, hell will freeze over before I'll return to O'Rourke's.
(1)Monika N.
I don't care what the haters say, I love me O'Rourke's. Ok, so sometimes the bartender is under-attentive and the waitstaff kinda stiff (there are a couple who make up with endless bubbly happiness) but really, it's just a great neighborhood bar for simple food and cold beer. I've definitely had mixed experiences - service slow, impossible to catch the bartender's attention (even when I've sat at the bar and tried to catch his eye), but generally it's a nice experience. The beer selection isn't huge but enough to satisfy everyone's palette and the food consistent quality with good portion sizes. It's right down the street from where I live, so I can walk to and from, which again is a plus in my book but I realize irrelevant to everyone who lives outside of Pawtuxet. The other customers are friendly and I've had conversations with new people all the time, so the regulars are nice. The staff is polite and to the point, never rude per say, but sometimes they just appear less than thrilled to be at work. Which, hey, it is a job and jobs require work, so I can't say I totally blame them. If you're outgoing it's pretty easy to crack the icy exterior. It's never been a turn off. Tip - if you're a beer professional, they only serve drinks in plastic cups on the patio. My husband disapproves as he says it impacts the quality of his Guianese, and maybe I'm easy to please, but I don't think it's a huge deal. Ask for what's on tap because they tend to run out of popular beers fast. They have TVs and bathrooms and live music many weekends. It's fun for a casual night out and good for a quick lunch. I do however, only give three stars due to the uneven surface and numerous times my preferred beer was tapped out, but hey, I still come back.
(3)Greg E.
My mom and sister came to town and I wanted to take them out somewhere local. We came across this Irish pub and it was perfect. It had beer sports and the third most important good food. I mean this place was perfect. Really good Irish choices and other great choices as well. I ordered the corn beef ruben and it was to die for. It went great with the beer that I had and almost every Irish pub you go to has the best beer on tap. The Irish know how to satisfy when it comes to beer. And I was all around satisfied with the pub and the service we received. She was kind and our food came out fast and everything was smooth and great. I will for sure be returning there soon to treat someone for lunch or dinner.
(5)Ryan P.
Havent had a bad experience yet. Always get a good drink and the food hasnt disappointed. The Irish Nachos are ridiculous, the chips tasted homemade. The Spinach & Artichoke dip is also very good.
(4)Noor S.
The food is pretty good. The service varies between good and atrocious depending on the day. The patio is very hit or miss. Last time we were there we were seated and didn't get any service for 20 minutes - and it wasn't even that busy (about half full). Granted we have a ten month old so time is a premium, so we may be more sensitive than most. But that would have been a walk away even before had the kid. When you go, get the steak sandwich.
(2)Steve P.
One star is too many. We called ahead and they stated they could accommodate 17 people but they ran out of food. 2 orders sent back. And the waitress "comp'd" us for the meals we didn't get. That's not complimentary!! The first thing our first waitress stated was there's no chicken, not a problem. She left the restaurant and a second waitress took over. Still not a problem. The manager came out at 10pm said "sorry, unfortunately we ran out of food. " Coincidentally the kitchen closed at 10pm. 3 of the 17 people did not get food. The manager brought 2 grilled cheeses as "complimentary". We finished, received our check and noticed the manager just left. Jumped in her White Volvo and left.....quickly. When you know you have unhappy patrons why would you stick it to your waitress' to handle. Very unprofessional. We asked the waitress to speak to another manager and she said we don't have one on. I asked why the manager who came out with the two grilled cheeses left so abruptly. She stated she was the owner! Well that's the icing on this cake! A second waitress came out and straightened the check out. Not sure why the owner didn't, prior to taking off. Now to the food we did receive. Let's just say they should stick to serving alcohol. One of us has MS and stated she can't have fried food. She ordered the fish tacos as did I. They came out like a fish & chip order. Fried fish on s wrap. ???? Fried fish for fish tacos. Never would have thought that. Another one of us can not have bread of any kind. She had the Fenway minus the bread. It came on bread. She stated she can't have any food that has even touched bread. The plate came back 1min later with the food scraped off of the bread. She asked if this was the same sausage and peppers. The waitress said no but there were bread crumbs on her plate. Sent back again. 3 times a charm. Steak & cheese no mushrooms side salad no croutons. Came out steak & no cheese side salad w/croutons. And finally I've had better clam chowder out of a can. This owner will be the first person to complain the State of RI is killing her business with taxes and regulations. Nope, think again. Your customer service sucked.

I have been here several times and always pretty good BUT tonight I felt like all I ate was salt. Had the Rueben as always. Usually terrific. Tonight just terrible. Salt overload. The sweet potato fries were excellent. Service was excellent. Waitress was awesome. Tried to order desert. They have non. Jane our waitress was awesome
(2)Cee D.
Excellent atmosphere I have been there half a dozen times from 2008 until now. Newly added bar with fireplace upstairs. Menu changes and seems to have been updated. I recommend "irish nacho's" which are fresh fried potato chips instead of nachos piled high with all the usual nacho additions. Corned beef was very good. The drinks are awesome, I love a bar that asks if you want a "Tall"!!!!
(4)Ryan B.
Reuben was awesome and so was the fish and chips and a sweet patio on the street. Good Pub.
(3)Megan R.
Great guinness battered fish 'n chips and a rockin' long island iced tea! This is good enough for me!!
(5)Adam C.
O'Rourke's is an Irish Pub in name only. There is really nothing Irish about this place. The best part about the place is the fact that you can sit outside on the patio in the summer and enjoy some drinks. The food is ok, although they are always out of something on the menu, always. The service is always a little slow, though friendly. The selection of draft beer is just plain bad, come on give me at least one micro brew.
(2)Chef Melo L.
This is a great place, very comfortable great feel when you enter. The people that go there are very friendly and easy going. Great food, the stuffies are amazing way better than McCormick and Schmicks! The Rib eye sandwich is either the second best or possibly best steak sandwich I've ever had. It's just under $10 too. On some nights there are live bands . Every time I go there i feel like this ought to be out of a movie scene... great food, great place... enjoy
