Been back 2-3 times since first visit. Really nice atmosphere and even better food. On most recent visit this week, my wife said the pesto, corn red pepper and cheese flat bread was brilliant and the Eggplant meatballs with polenta and pomodoro sauce was fantastic. Great beer selection, open windows and view of the harbor tops it off.

When you're in Bristol after 2pm, past the lunch hour and before cocktail time, it can be tough to find a good place to sit down for good eats. Luckily, we pulled up Judge Roy Bean, and after seeing the lovely open-air pub with live music coming from it, decided this was the place to chill for a bit. It's a lovely space -- wood panelling and high ceilings. The menu reads a little heavy for my taste, but the burgers, wings and seafood offerings are all beautifully crafted and far from run-of-the-mill pub fare. I decided to go with the lobster sliders, which were pretty tasty and satisfying. My problem really has to do with the service. After being seated, it tok our server a good ten minutes to greet us, and the place only had three other tables to service. Once she brough us our waters, it was another ten minutes before she was back to take our orders, and then the food took a good 30 minutes to come out. She only refilled our water glasses once (which wasn't cool because all I was drinking was water), and even then I had to ask for it. We were barely done with our food when she asked, "You ready for the check yet?" -- I was literally mid-bite when she asked. It was a total turn-off, and something I'd chalk up to lack of experience if it wasn't the end of the summer. However, the food is delicious and of good quality, the location is fantastic and the atmosphere lovely. Perhaps there are better servers, so you may have a better experience than I had!

I go here often enough to know i love it. I have eaten here once but the atmosphere and employees are great. I recommend the shit out of this place. Its great for day drinking before or after some shopping.

Excellent service. Delicious and eclectic food choices cooked to perfection! Great ambiance. I went when it wasn't terribly busy so I can't speak to peak hours. I will certainly be back.

Trifecta of food, ambiance and service at this cozy "saloon" in terrific historic building in the equally quaint town of Bristol. Creative menu featured a New England sampler with local flavors, such as the Little Neck and Chorizo Corn Chowder. A creamy, kicky flavor with clams-on-the-shell. Neat to eat and perfectly sweet. Both the spinach/cranberry and the grilled romaine salads were generous and tasty. So filling, we thought there was no way we would stuff down the triple Short Rib Sliders W/Boursin Cheese, Pickled Onions & *Fabulous* Hand Cut Fries. Managed to do so, though the sliders were adequate but not outrageous. Kudos for a creative menu and friendly, accommodating service in this fantastic old building across from the harbor. A solid choice for casual ambiance and a decent meal. Judge Roy would approve.

Comfortable and cheery was our first impression. What image do you get in your head when you think saloon? Dark and grungy? Put that thought out of your mind. This is not your typical saloon! My husband and I recently enjoyed dinner here on a warm summer evening. The large windows were open and an enjoyable sea breeze kept us cool and comfortable. We were greeted immediately by our friendly server. I've set the stage about the atmosphere. Now for the food. The menu was concise, but each dish sounded so delicious I had a difficult time deciding what to get. But then my gaze fell on the Roasted Eggplant Meatballs and I was sold! Ever have one of those meals that you know you will never forget? This was one of those for me. We started with the roasted Beet salad and then I had the Eggplant Meatballs. They were light and juicy, on top of a crispy polenta. I was in heaven after the first bite!

Wow. Are we in Bristol? This place is amazing. It's decorated like an old Texas saloon with a modern twist. When the Bean was owned previously, it was known as a bar, not really a dining experience. Well, that has changed and don't miss out! The food is awesome! We got the Pork Tostada and the Eggplant "meatballs." Both delicious! Full liquor bar and a dozen draft beers. Don't let the Beans past concept fool you, make sure to try their delicious food!

We've been here three times so far, each time mid-afternoon in the fall/winter...no problem with crowding or service, as there have been very few other people. Each time our waitress was cheerful and efficient. Beer selection is excellent, food is pub food with a little change-up...I had the pork belly reuben the first time, while my husband had the Carpetbagger burger - has clams on it, other stuff, can't remember, but the effect was all sort of mixed without a standout flavor. The reuben was very nice. Fries were requested extra-crispy, came well done but not terribly crunchy. Next time, I had the short rib sliders, and fell in love. These three little sliders came with big chunks of pot-roast-like beef, boursin cheese, onions, and pickles on the side. I just loved them. Husband had fish tacos, also very good, better than the burger or the reuben. Third time, I got the sliders with a side of horseradish which lifted them up into a new realm. Unfortunately the beef was a little more dry than the first time - but I got more boursin cheese, which was also a help to the sandwiches. Husband had reuben - kinda soggy. Each time we ask for extra-crispy fries, and each time they are nicely cooked but without being crunchy. Oh, for a crispy fry! Still, a friend of mine hates it when they 'shatter' as he says, so there's fries for every taste I guess. I'd have rated JRB Saloon higher on the strength of the short-rib sliders, but the other items we've had haven't been as appealing. Still, we've been happy with service, happy with food, and will go back.

In terms of bars in Bristol,RI, the new owners of the Judge Roy Bean have done an amazing job! Hands down best atmosphere of any bar in town. The food, pub food, is amazing. Other bars have the traditional frozen mozzarella sticks but the Bean takes bar food to a new level! Great appetizers with drinks that you can't find anywhere else in town! FYI, order a redneck sangria, booze and bacon, enough said. If you are into eating microwaves nachos and PBR's, stay home or in your dorm room... If you are looking for drinks and some great food, head on down to the new Bean!

We drove by one night and it looked like a cool place. Went in and was pleasantly suprised with the laid back, affordable yet nice atmosphere. Food is a little higher end but done well and good value (seems worth it for the region). They have plenty of TV's for whatever sport is on and have a great space that can be rented upstairs for a reasonable price for events and such. Definite recommend

I'm sure this is a fine place to drink but I certainly would not eat here again. I ordered the shrimp Po Boy sandwich. It consisted of shrimp, lettuce and mayonnaise on a hot dog bun for $12.00. The fries were good but no value here, mediocre food at a premium price.

Eggplant meatballs are amazing.. They serve then on top of nice crisp polenta ... Yumm.. One downfall is that it is super bright in there at night, gotta dim those lights guys!
(4)Theresa R.
The new owners have done a wonderful job renovating the place and up scaling the menu. The staff is great and the food was amazing... Definitely try the pomegranate glazed wings!!

What a hidden gem. Really nice looking pub with incredible food from an incredible Chef. Very eclectic, very gourmet (but a good portion unlike what you think of when you hear "gourmet") and great service. They need to advertise. I just thought it was an irish bar. Alot more than that!

I appreciate the owners concern for their patrons. But unfortunately I won't be in town again. Wish I could have been at the restaurant without the busy weekend.

Great Creative Comfort Food from Chef Randy Ross Judge Roy Bean Saloon has new owners and a totally new vibe. They still have lots of live music, but what they now have is great food. Wednesdays are Half Price Wing night $4 for an entire plate of wings and not average wings either-CLASSIC BUFFALO, STICKY POMEGRANATE, HONEY WHISKEY BBQ, OR CRISPY ONION DIJON. I had to pomegranate and they were excellent, not too sticky or sweet and the dipping sauce was great-BUTTERMILK CHIVE CRÈME. They have a few more interesting apps-NARRAGANSETT BEER BATTERED CHEESE CURDS,LITTLE NECK, CHOURICO & CORN CHOWDER-all are $7.95 and three interesting salads for the same price. For an entree I had the chicken meatloaf over sweet potato waffles, roasted broccoli rabe & cranberry ketchup! I was so impressed. They have some creative burgers and vegetarian options and lots of specials. See Facebook for the most up to date info. They have a good number of taps, nothing rare in the Craft beer line, but solid. I had the strawberry margarita and it was a puree not a simple syrup $7 for the house and $9 for a Patron upgrade. Barry the bartender was great. The crowd at the bar ranged from RWU law students taking about guns, to locals in for the Dogfish beer dinner, to middle age men talking about how to get a good night's sleep with kids around. Bristol closes up tight after 5PM. This is a great new option. I would ignore the 3 star reviews from the snarky Yelp elite, yes we know you think you are special. Wish you were as special as this restaurant. Now the one and two star reviews seem to be from people who like posting bad reviews- Life is too short for that.

Came here on a friday night for dinner with 3 other couples..the place was jammed but we got a table quick. After we got our drinks and ordered our food it took about a hour for wings and oyster apps. It took about another 30 minutes to receive our entrees, just for a bunch of sandwiches. Everyones meal was just ok but i got the pork belly rueben which was the grosses sandwich i ever had. Very soggy and greasy bread with what i couldnt describe what was inside. Ive had pork belly before and this wAs not. The place was so loud i couldnt hear the person across from me. Somethings just dont change. Gave 1 star cuz I had to. Will not go back even if its just for a drink

The Judge Roy Bean Saloon is now OPEN under new ownership. It is a full service restaurant and bar opening at 4 P.M. daily. Great atmosphere! Excellent food!

Was out of town and looking to watch football. I found they had the Sunday ticket so me and my wife went there to watch the game. The staff was very friendly and took great care of us. If ever back in RI I will come back

Recently, I came into the Bean and a wedding party showed up. Needless to say the the bartender, Barry, was very far behind. The wait for drinks was long. That being said I have never seen so many drinks made in so little time. This place has a very hard working staff and I hope the business owners know what great people they have working for them. Read my past reviews for more info on the Bean. This place is really great. They also have new menu options which I have not been able to try.

Cheese curds rocked. Oysters ok but just so small. Lobster sliders didn't have very much lobster on them but the fries were good. The eggplant meatballs were very good too but I left hungry after a hefty bill. I HATE leaving an eating establishment hungry!!!!

Food was awesome. The bartender Troy was really awesome and professional. Love the atmosphere and live music. We will be back for sure! Such a great find!

This certainly isn't the old Roy Bean. Gone is the general grunginess, exposed wires and just run-down looks. The place has been restored to look as it did before it went down hill. We were told to sit anywhere we wanted and we chose a high top right near the large open front windows, better to see the sights on State and Thames street. The menu certainly has changed as well. It's not your typical bar food. It's slightly more upscale than that. Generally after I go to the doctor's and get a clean bill of health, I go on a few day fat, sugar and carb fest before going back to my "normal eating". Having been to the doctor that morning, I was looking for a fairly unhealthy meal. I started with the redneck sangria. It arrived garnished with a piece of bacon. Seriously? Unhealthy score! It was a white sangria. It could have benefited from just a smidge more alcohol. For an appetizer we went with the fried Narragansett Creamery cheese curds, which were served with a ranch dipping sauce. Delicious! For my entree I had the skirt steak sandwich, with cheddar and caramelized onions, served with fries. It was certainly tasty enough and they obviously used fresh ingredients, but for $13 the amount of steak was kind of skimpy. Service was good and very attentive. Why aren't I giving a higher rating? Really, it's the value. I was surprised how little steak I had for the price and the $7 charge for my husband's 16 oz draft beers was a bit of sticker shock when the bill came.

Ive been here a few times and I can say that the food is really good. Its not the typical over sauced over cooked pub grub its got a few more refinements then that. For starters they do a Clam chowder that has to be eaten to really enjoy. But its whole clams and I believe its cooked to order and its great. The menu rotates and the chef is clearly working to keep it fresh and surprising. Some of the staples are wonderful the steal tips and chicken dinner. The burgers are dressed up with great touches if your adventurous. The service is great although I am always at the bar and I think I sat at a table once but...go there relax enjoy!!

Granted, we went during the Bristol stroll, but we waited over an hour for our food. Thank God I was served a drink with candied bacon in it or I may have left. They didn't even bother to apologize for the crazy wait. The burger was good and the Redneck Sangria was really good. I will likely go back just for the drink and pray my food comes out faster next time.

Great location and food. Open the windows during the summer and as if sitting outside. Redneck sangria, clam chowder, tuna tacos, and pork belly sandwich. Not one thing could see needing improvement. Need more places like this. Chowder was the best I've ever had. Lighter with sourdough at bottom with 4 little necks, sausage, and corn. Tom of flavor.

Had lunch here with my husband this past Sunday. Pros: Nice "Saloon" atmosphere down by the water, server was very nice and attentive. Place was clean. We enjoyed looking up the history of Judge Roy Bean when were were waiting for our food. Cons: The food *looked* wonderful when it came to the table. I ordered the fish tacos and my husband ordered the reuben sandwich. He ordered something else first, but was told they didn't have it, so ordered the reuben instead. I usually order fish tacos whenever I go out because I love them so much, and my husband loves reubens. Both of these items seem pretty simple and straight forward - hard to screw up. These were by far the worst fish tacos I have ever had. The fish was old tasting, very old tasting. It looked old when you cut into it with a fork and smelled old. The reuben sandwich appeared delicious, but was destroyed by the fact that the thinly sliced corned beef of a classic reuben had been replaced by thick slabs of chunky fat and gristle that seemed like an attempt to make in-house meat for a gourmet sandwich gone wrong. There was hardly any real meat in the sandwich. We don't send food back to the kitchens when we go out to eat because we like to go out and have fun - we trust the cooks in the kitchen. However, we really wished we had sent both dishes back and then left to go somewhere else - absolutely nowhere near the quality of the $40.00 we ended up spending on JUST the food, we didn't even order any drinks. This place seems to be really big on burgers, so maybe it would be best to stick with those.
