This restaurant specializes in Italian food, which is very much a Rhode Island staple. It is located behind the main stretch (Water Street). It has both indoor and outdoor seating, and there is a combination bakery/ice cream place that is also a part of this complex. We visited for lunch on a Monday. The restaurant wasn't busy given the weather (overcast) and the day of the week. We were actually greeted by one of the waitstaff, and the host/hostess stand was crowded with bored waiters and waitresses mostly goofing off. Our waitress did a good job serving us--we had our food in a timely manner and there were no mistakes--but she clearly preferred to hang out with the other staff, and it appeared that serving us bored her quite considerably. The way out of the restaurant, when we got up to leave, was completely blocked by the same group of bored staff, and we had to walk around them. As for the food, there were some highlights. We ordered the bruchetta appetizer, and the unique take was quite refreshing--beans and cherry tomatoes in a tomato broth served with garlic bread. My partner had a puttenesca pizza, which he really enjoyed. I ordered the pasta pomedoro, and it was very disappointing--the sauce was likely directly out of a jar, dominated by tomato puree with one basil leaf floating around in it. Absolutely not worth nearly $14.00. There are many great places to eat on Block Island, so you may want to skip this one. The pizza is good, but you may want to opt for take out, of they offer it. It may be best for the owners to consider hiring a full time manager here to address staff issues.

I'm giving one star because our server Chris was very nice and kept apologizing. This was one of the worst restaurant experiences I ever had with my family. They took 30 min to bring our drinks then we placed our orders and 15 min later the server came back and said they had run out of clam strips so we reordered and the whole experience took over 2 hours. But the more upsetting part was that the owner was sitting in the table right next to us and she could hear as talking about it and she didn't do anything about. There was no soap in the bathrooms. I travel a lot to block island I will never eat there again.

Aldo's is like your one stop on Block Island. They have a bakery, moped rentals, and of course; the restaurant. My party and I ended up at Aldo's after being turned away by the staff at "Dead Eye Dicks" because our large party would have thrown their system of assigning tables to the servers out of whack. When we arrived at Aldo's we were welcomed and greeted by a very accommodating and friendly staff. We were seated immediately without any fuss. From the minute we walked through the archway we were not disappointed. Once we were seated the waiter took our drink and appetizer order. We ordered a round of usual seafood appetizers, stuffies, crab cakes, and mussels. In addition to these tasty items someone ordered prosciutto wrapped Brie. I didn't have any, but the ladies at the table loved it. The Brie wheel was topped with seasonal fruit compote. The entrees tasted just as good as they looked. As the staff was bringing out the entrees, I eyed up every single dish at the table wondering if I should have ordered that particular dish. My sidekick, new yelper, and food blogger Casey D ordered a pasta dish packed with olives, sundried tomatoes, and shrimp. My wife ordered the linguini with clam sauce and her sister had this enormous seafood pasta dish with plenty of clams, shrimp, and lobster. It is as if this dish had every thing caught at sea that day. The respective three dishes were served with wheat pasta. The fact that you could substitute wheat pasta went over quite well with the ladies at the table that decided to monitor their points and calories while on vacation Once my entree arrived I realized I made the perfect choice. I ordered the scallops Carolina; a pasta dish with pan seared sea scallops, pancetta, tomatoes, and white wine. That dish was packed with so many flavors. Each ingredient complimented the dish. Now I wouldn't normally be interested in Italian food while vacationing on an Island full of seafood. It is comforting to know that should you feel the need to cleanse your pallet of seafood, or choose to mix your seafood with Italian, it is comforting know that Aldo's is there to satisfy your taste buds.

Nice, casual restaurant with outdoor seating serving soups, salads, sandwiches, and pizza. The staff was friendly and attentive and the pizza was excellent! Try it with ham and pineapple! :)

Great pizza and other food is really good. Run by 3rd generation Aldo who is really friendly. Good breakfast and coffee in the mornings too. Has free wifi - a precious commodity on the island. Really good place to bring young kids.

We went there for lunch while visiting Block Island. The food was medicore, but that was to be expected it being so close to the ferry area. I had the rigatoni and meat sauce, which was okay. My wife had a grilled mahi sandwich, which was very bland. My kids had the chicken noodle soup and some pasta w/ marinara sauce. Service could use improvement. The waiter was not as responsive or helpful with explaining menu items. Prices were on the high side for what we got.

Block Island meets West Side Story! The Italian-American beachhead on the otherwise working-class WASPy Block Island community, Aldo's Restaurant anchors the Weldon's Way complex that includes a bakery, ice creamery, and a bike/moped rental outfit one block behind New Shoreham's main drag. Heavily concentrated fun. Drinks are STIFF, with ginger beer simply flavoring the deluge of rum in Aldo's Dark-and-Stormys (yes, this is New England). Nothing fancy here, but an exceptionally well-stocked bar. Fortunately, the clientele, though touristy and working class-y during the summer, avoids the tacky excess that defines its harborside neighbor Ballard's (where one needs to stay just sober enough to protect a drink and stagger back to the ferry). Food is served hot and promptly, with SURPRISE, a nice collection of moderately priced Italian red wines. "Aldo's Special" is a curiosity - with meatballs, sausage, eggplant, and peppers, all under cheese, the special represents the most Boyardee-ish element of its otherwise above-average selection of Italian classics. Everything fried is good. Boom. Finally, the Eastern European temporary summer staff is consistently lithe and attractive. "Andiamo!"

Our family has been sailing to Block Island for 10 years. It is part of our tradition to drink their coffee and eat their pastry and muffins at our boat in Great Salt Pond. When in town, we hit Aldos! My first reason is that they allow my small sweet dog to sit outside under the umbrella. He goes on a long walk with me and while the kids hit the shops, Mom and Dog are comfortable. Our dog loves the meatballs. I love the drinks, chatting with others at the tables and enjoy the eggplant park sandwich. The service is excellent and I am happy to hear how much these students from Europe like Block and their off island travels. On the way out I treat myself to a cone from the adjacent ice cream/bakery business. They are sweet, and sometimes very busy !!!

Just spent Memorial day weekend on the island and came here a couple of times. The people here were clearly newly staffed and had no idea what they were doing when it came to ordering breakfast (burnt bagel, didn't know how to make tea) and their pastries are just ok. Pricey for the mediocre service and food. Maybe things will be better later in the summer season. However, as an ice cream fanatic, I highly recommend coming here for a scoop. The ice cream here is clearly fresh and probably some of the best I've had. I've order 6 of their flavors at various points of the weekend and all did not disappoint. This rating would be a solid 5 for their ice cream, but had to bring it down for the breakfast.

Ugh! So we wandered around BI our first night trying to decide where to go out for dinner. The places along Water Street seemed a bit pricey (we didn't know about Mohegan Cafe!) so we ventured a block inland. The outdoor patio at Aldo's looked inviting. After checking out the menu and discovering that smoking wasn't allowed on the patio, we took the plunge. I ordered PEI mussels appetizer and split the House Salad for two with my wife. Several of the mussels had grit in them - for the record, I'm not a fan of crunchy mussels. The broth that came with the mussels was just blah. The House Salad was nothing special. Overall, a very mediocre meal that wasn't all that cheap. Not sure that we had the same waiter as Mike M. but the service could have been better especially since they weren't that busy. When I related my Aldo's experience with a few of the BI taxi drivers they all agreed that there were much better places to eat on the island.

I went there alone to get some wings. They were decent, and the price wasn't too bad for being out on the island. The service kinda sucked. I went to the host stand and the hostess just stared at me for a while. Finally i just went up to her and asked if I could be seated. She looked at me like I had two heads cause I was alone. The waiter pretty much just dropped off my food and that was that. Didn't check on me at all, and I had to go up to the hostess to ask for my bill. I'm going to stick to just take out from there for here on out.

In my humble opinion it's the best Italian American on the Island. They also have an ice cream shop and fresh pastries. A little pricey but it's a pricey Island. Service has always been good.
