The Barn Restaurant, nestled in the superior seclusion of Adamsville, RI, is a glorious breakfast joint that is really in a building that was once an old barn. Someone decided to refurbish it, jazz it up just a smidge, and make it into a breakfast cafe. I'm sold right there. The Barn offers a great atmosphere, I really love that is, in fact, in an old barn. The interior is a all beautifully stained wood (duh, it's a barn) and the area is very pretty and quaint. They even have paintings hanging up by local artists of landscape watercolors and oils of the area. And although the scenic little lot it's nestled on and the mini art gallery it has inside does not have anything to do with the quality of their food, I just figured I would mention that for anyone that is interested. Now on to the quality of the food: I personally think the food is above average, as is the menu. They have different specials on their chalkboard when you first walk in and if there is a bit of a wait to be seated (it DOES get packed on the weekends) they at least have a few specials for you to look at and mull over. And their specials are very tasty and creative. When I went a couple of weeks ago, it was a Belgian Waffle with a spiced pear compote and caramel sauce. Also, there was a stuffed french toast special as well. I am sure these were both out of this world, but alas, I was in the mood for something savory the day I went. The menu has a pretty extensive omelet choice, some different eggs benedict dishes, pancake/waffle/french toast combo plates, and of course the usual breakfast a la carte fare. I decided to go with the "Eggs on the Bayou" dish which was. Oh my word. Oh my flippin' word. Awesome is a word that does not measure up. I have been here before a few times a few years back when I had a bigger sweet tooth and always got waffles and/or french toast dishes and they were rockin' as well, but I doubt I will get a different meal any time I go back. The Eggs on the Bayou meal is basically a cajun version of the traditional eggs benedict. You have your english muffins and poached eggs like a normal eggs benedict, but crab cakes and "creole hollandaise" sauce are added. I am not a fan of spicy food, but I do like food with some bite to it, and this has just the perfect amount of bite. The service was fantastic. The waitress was attentive and very accomodating to my needs. I am pregnant, so I have to have eggs cooked all the way through for the moment. I explained this to her when I ordered the dish, and when the food was ready she stood by me and said "just cut it and half to make sure it's cooked all the way through and if not I will have them poach a couple more eggs for you the way you like." Sure enough, they were runny on the inside. Normally I could care less, but being pregnant I was advised in the beginning (with the long novel of other things I can't eat) not to have runny eggs. So she sent them back and a few minutes later returned with beautifully cooked eggs :). I gobbled that thing up like a vacuum. The prices here a bit higher than some other places I have had breakfast at in the area, but they are not outrageous and you get what you pay for in this place. The dish I had was one of the pricier ones ($11.95 I believe), presumably because it contained shellfish. But again, the quality of the food is amazing in my opinion. I highly recommend The Barn. It is a great all around place to me. A quaint builiding in a quaint area, great food, a wonderful menu, great specials, and very accomodating and friendly service.

Here in early August for a departure breakfast from a week long stay in Little Compton. Excellent all around, but I have to ding them on their portion control. Food was great, nice eclectic menu with specials and great atmosphere. I had sausage gravy and biscuits with two eggs scrambled. Great dish but just not much food on the plate. My wife had the corned beef hash plate and the 4 other people at the table with us, all had bites off her heaping plate and she still had remnants that she could not finish? Not sure why one dish was so weighed, measured and portioned when another plate was off the charts? I left hungry which should never be an issue with a breakfast place.

We came for breakfast and were seated with our two year old at a table where the window blinds had fallen down, causing intense sunlight to blare into our faces. We politely asked to move, and with tons of eye rolling from the waitress, we were seated at a table right next to the bathroom door. So close that I had to move my chair if someone wanted to use the bathroom. We were so apologetic and polite when we pointed to one of the many vacant tables in the restaurant, and after much more eye rolling and ridiculous sighs from the owner, we were told we could move again and wait for it... The owner told us we were annoying. Seriously. How does this evil sourpuss of an awful shrew run a business???? We were so apologetic about being difficult, even though our requests to move tables didn't really seem like a big deal... And the owner told us again that our behavior was "a little ridiculous." Nice, right? We have never been treated this way at any restaurant ever. Bringing a toddler to a restaurant is definitely a game changer, but we were so polite in our requests, even apologetic. We were absolutely shocked that the owner was so awful to us. Her tone, eye rolling and huffing and puffing were downright mean. So we left without eating because The Barn features the most horrible staff we have ever encountered. Rude, rude, rude. Will never return and will never recommend to anyone. Simply awful.

This place was awesome! Perfect home fries, delicious poached eggs...the béarnaise sauce was spot on. The coffee was a bit meh but the outdoor seating made up for it. Nice with the doors open to patio.

We loved this place. It is in the boonies, but well worth finding. House made hollandaise, super fresh ingredients, and a friendly wait staff made The Barn perfect. Two warnings - It's only open until 1p. Secondly, don't trust your GPS!!! Call and get the street address.

Man, I cry inside that this place is an hour from my house because I'd like to go back. My girl and I screamed down the road - complete with tracks of fire left on the pavement - to make it there before they closed at noon. They let us in with two minutes to spare and were as congenial as could be. I had the Blackstone Eggs - poached eggs, crisp bacon, tomato on an english muffin with hollandaise sauce. Served with red potato homefries, well-seasoned. Amazing. Creative. Delicious. If you CAN be in the area, I recommend stopping here. The staff is super nice.

Drove by here a bunch of times before finally stopping in. Great coffee, homefries and that portuguese benedict was delicious. The place is cute and cozy but there are plenty of other equally good places in the area to grab breakfast. They do have mimosas though, which my girlfriend appreciated.

This place has the cutest atmosphere. I went this morning, it was very busy. I like how the waitresses walk around asking people if they need refills on coffee or water constantly. I had the waffle with rhubarb and an egg over easy. Delicious! Even though they were busy, the servers were super nice and didn't forget anything. Kudos to you! I'll definitely be back. Looked like they had plenty of seating outside as well. I just cannot get over the beautiful ambiance. It's a splendid place to sit and enjoy breakfast and coffee.

The food selection is varied and complete. I had the hash and it seemed like the hash came out of a can instead of home made (my preference). The eggs were done just wright. My wife had an omelette with home fries which she said was delicious they home fries were tastes. They have plenty of outside seating and it was clean. The service was great and always ensuring your coffee cup is full.

The best food around. I would highly recommend the home fries, they're the best I've ever had. The plain buttermilk pancakes are always a solid choice. The servers are also so sweet. They are always quick with a suggestion if you're unsure about what to get. I come to the barn every weekend at least once, usually twice. This is my favorite breakfast in all of Rhode Island.

We come here all the time. So, we're probably partial. Though, it's such a great atmosphere, amazing food. Family run, family friendly. Specials every week, quick to fill up your coffee, reasonable prices. Best to get there early, unless you do not mind waiting. There are high chairs and booster seats for kids, crayons, staff remember your name. They have an upstairs and outside. Outside, you want to get a spot that has shade, on a hot day.
(5)Nic C.
Very nice environment. Love the setup! I had the cinnamon pancakes and my my they were delicious they were no ordinary skinny ones either. The home style fries are also very good I love the papas they use.
(4)Evan L.
My meal was awesome! The service as good. When we came in we were lost and did not know where to enter the barn. The host did find us and helped us find a table on a busy Sunday. I will be back to try more of the menu!
(5)Jonathan K.
I drove over 80 miles to go to this place. They have some of the best sausage gravy and biscuits in all of New England. Beautiful drive, beautiful area and a cool barn atmosphere. A great delight for breakfast!
(5)Mark P.
Just a word of caution. Bring your wallet! Egg dishes over ten bucks seem outrageous to me. Had to send back pancakes because the underside was burnt ( Didn't think we'd notice?). Staff is great and friendly but the prices are too much!

We went on a busy Sunday morning in August. We were seated right away as there were only two people in our party. I understand that they were busy so I am not taking off stars for slow service. We were seated in the loft with a clear view of the kitchen and the restroom below. There were several cooks int he kitchen, none of whom wore gloves. The coffee was served lukewarm with plastic single serve creamers on the table. I ordered a waffle and sausage. The waffle was dry and the sausage tasted like the boiled ones served at a continental hotel breakfast buffet. Patrons lined up outside the only bathroom to wait for the 5 teenage girls "working" to decide which one was going to bring more toilet paper and paper towels. My husband had an orange juice and sausage and biscuits which came with half cooked home fries. Our bill came to $40 with tip - no alcohol and no refill on the orange juice. The place is not air conditioned which was ok for us, but may not be for others. If you're looking for a good quality breakfast in a clean and efficient environment then skip this place.

Got the egg sardou(sar-doo) and my poached eggs were a tad bit over done not that I minded but service was great and on point. Love this place! Will be coming back tomorrow morning before heading back to the city scape.

What a treat! This is a lovely little local spot with absolutely delicious food and fantastic service. The atmosphere is relaxed and perfect for weekend brunch. It's classic local fare with a delightfully subtle gourmet upgrade. It's unpretentious quite simply put, yummy. And also perfect for any foodies looking for for a tasty treat.

Breakfast was pricey and there was no charge for the hair that was wrapped around my home fries. The older waitress pulled it out and threw it on the floor. Then said she uses hairspray and everyone in the kitchen has short hair. Not even an apology. The breakfast was greasy and had poor quality ingredients. Won't be going back.

I have eaten at the barn several times. The service is always quick, pleasant and courteous. The menu has a lot of unique choices and the food is hot and delicious. I will be back.

My wife and I have never been treated so poorly by any establishment in our entire lives. The management is absolutely atrocious not to mention wildly offensive and inexperienced. If you enjoy being abused, this place is for you, if not, look elsewhere.

Been wanting to try this place for a while. No wait at 10am on a Saturday which was nice. Boyfriend loved the Portuguese Benedict, homefries and coffee. My eggs and sweet bread French Toast were painfully boring and bland. I'd come back because it's cute and has outdoor seating but I' try something else.
(3)Darlene F.
I love The Barn. Everytime I'm here, I have to have my fix of Eggs Sardou. There is nothing else like it in DC or in my other travels. The combo of spinach and hollandaise with perfectly poached eggs and potatoes to scoop it all up... heaven.

There is a lot for parking and that is nice. This place is packed on weekends during the summer. I would either go early or during the week. The place is small which is why it is usually busy and a wait. However usually the wait isn't too long. We both ordered an orange juice. The orange juice was really good. I ordered an omelet and that was okay. Nothing special. My husband ordered eggs, bacon, and toast. He said it was good, but again nothing special. The food is average. Cost is a little high for average food. I would rate this place 3 stars but there were two things that brought it down to 2 stars. First is that I asked for water 5 times. I asked for it the first time when they came by to ask for coffee. I asked the second time when the lady came to take our order. The third time when she came back with our order. The forth time when a man came around to ask if anyone needed more coffee (no dude I want water!). And lastly the fifth time when our server came by to ask how things were going. I do not know how you can get a glass of water at this place. The second thing that really ticked me off was the dude that came around twice with coffee. Both times he held the hot coffee pot over my infants head. I had to move my infant away each time because of thoughts of someone bumping this guy and then splashing extremely hot coffee on my infants head. We will probably go back and hope for a better experience. 3/24/2013: edit to add. service is horrible. it is slow and takes forever for them to come around so you can put your order in. takes forever to get your drinks, if you need anything, check, and your card back. Perhaps the young girls who wait tables don't want to work there? 11/19/2014: Edit to say that in the past two times we went there service has been friendly and fast. I raised the star value from a 2 to a 4 since service has improved so drastically from our previous visits.

Good place to go to hang out with all the foofy snobs. Not a thing has changed in the last 15 years. Food is great, but def pop the collar on your pink polo before you go in.
(3)Lisa D.
Service was good, quick and prompt. Food was delish, although I'd have liked more lobster on my eggs Benedict. Food was not as hot as I would have liked. I ordered a Bloody Mary and while it was tasty, the glass was about 75% ice. For 8.00 that's a bit on the skimpy size. I'll be back, but I won't run back, and I won't order a drink again. I'd give it more stars when the portions are more generous.

My friends and I drove like an hour to try this place, because we'd heard amazing things about their breakfast menu. Once we arrived, we were thrilled with the atmosphere and delish-sounding specials. My boyfriend ordered a Belgian waffle with fresh berries from the specials board. When it arrived at the table, my heart literally dropped. "Fresh berries" amounted to approximately seven slices of old, shrivel-y berries on a dry waffle. I am not exaggerating here. Sparse decrepit berries. No sugar. No maceration goin' on. DRY waffle. No whipped cream. SADNESS. It should be noted that my boyfriend NEVER complains. He NEVER sends anything back. But I encouraged him to say something to our waitress, as this waffle was SHOCKINGLY pathetic. When she came around to ask how everything was, he said something like, Actually, I'm a little disappointed with mine. I mean, the berries are kinda crappy. The waitress proceeded to ARGUE with him, telling him the berries were "FRESH THAT MORNING." Anyone with EYES could tell the berries were not fresh. And how ridiculous to argue with a disappointed customer! She eventually relented with her indignant defense and took the waffle off the bill. The rest of our breakfasts were passable, but unimpressive. We also had mimosa's, which I'm pretty sure were Orangina with maybe half a shot of champagne. The bill for six of us totaled something like $150. Sadly, I wouldn't even bother to give this place a second try. Sorry, rustic country barn!

Reasons to check out The Barn: 4) Good, old-fashioned breakfast 3) Interesting specials, if you want more than an old-fashioned breakfast 3) Nice waitresses and the number 1 reason... It's in an old converted Barn - what's more fun and country-like than that!
(4)Noemi C.
Unpretensious and delicious breakfast to sustain you pretty much the whole day....I love breakfast and live down the river about 4 miles from it...simple, down to earth and DELICIOUS food.
(5)Matthew C.
Being neighbors with one of the chefs helps, but by no means does it mean that the service and quality was any less. Kayaking over 0.8 of a mile away at a small boat launch, it lends itself to a hearty meal with bountiful portions, good food, there were bikers who parked and I love their two level and outdoor patio for eating and you can bring your wallet / checkbook to buy some WONDERFUL and some ahhh paintings, but many are NICE!

Awesome food, decent prices! I'm on vacation in Little Compton this week. We enjoyed our breakfast so much yesterday that we went back again this morning. I had the Barnwich (a croissant sanwich) and it was excellent. The kids liked the waffles. Coffee cake is awseome! Orange juice is delicious, but the serving size is rather small.
(5)E N.
When we went, it was on a weekend and there was a little bit of a wait, but it was well worth it. Food was fresh and well-prepared, lots of unique menu items, and great atmosphere!
(4)Pauly C.
Awesome breakfasts for not a lot of money. The place is BUSY expect to wait especially on the weekends.
(4)Rick O.
Took the wife and kids for a pre-hike breakfast and it was very good! I have had eggs benedict at a location that was rated by numerous food critics as the best around....The Barn's Portuguese Benedict, in my book rates right up there with the best. The service was nothing less than excellent and very professional. The setting and ambiance were awesome, the family and I were very impressed. As a side note, after speaking with the staff, The Barn DOES NOT take reservations. This did not pose a problem for us.
(4)Lyn C.
Loved it!! Very friendly staff and the food is excellent! Fresh and a great variety. The Lobster with the hollandaise sauce is fantastic. I dont think you can go wrong with anything from here. Coffee is great too. Prices are an amazing deal. If you're around you should most certainly take time to go out to The Barn and relax and enjoy!! Yum!!!
(5)Chris G.
When my family and I lived in Tiveton, we would go every Sunday. Now that we live in Virginia, we make time in our crazy schedule to visit The Barn every time we are here. The food is great, the people are great, and the wait staff is impecable. Te same people have been their for years and they remember my family and I when we go by for a bite.
(5)Sean C.
Fantastic country breakfast place! Weekends tend to fill up quickly so get here early. They are very kid friendly. The waitresses and even other patrons fawned over my daughters when we would come here. They have a regular breakfast menu, but they always have interesting specials. Watch for the blackboard as you enter. There is usually some special pancake or french toast concoction that will roll your socks up and down. My wife and I went here literally every Sunday when we lived in Newport.
