Great happy hour special. Just about everything is half price including the nice whiskeys.

Today I went to the White Rose for lunch with my wife and must say that I was surprised in a less than pleasant way. First off, the place was fairly busy and that is a good sign. Our waitress was prompt and took care of our table well. Now to the food. . . I normally love this place and usually get the same thing every time I go, the French Dip. Normally I get either chips or onion rings with it but today, I mixed things up and got fries, BIG MISTAKE. My fries were petrifried (yes, that is a play on words). Some of the fries were so over cooked that I couldn't break them with my hands and they wanted to upcharge me for them? NOT ACCEPTABLE!!! Don't let stuff like that come out of your kitchen, that is just plain bad. My French Dip itself was good as usual and my French Onion soup was also decent but the fact that they let those fries out of the kitchen indicates a quality control issue. For the prices that White Rose charges, this just doesn't work. I don't believe that I will be back at this point unless they do something to change up their quality. I really don't like paying an upcharge for something that was not edible.

Fantastic, totally recommend. I came here for dinner and brunch and the food was better than expected and the environment was impressive.

As we were just traveling through looking for food we stumbled upon this place. They were extremely friendly seating us near some outlets to charge our phones. I ordered the Cajun seafood wrap and it was probably the most delicious combo of fish and sauce. It came with a side of their house chips and washed it down with their draft pale ale. My mom got their evil green monkey drink that was huge and on special for $5! I definitely recommend!

Awesome place to get a beer, meet friends, hang out and banging food. I happen to love this spot and frequent it often. It gets a good crowd. Night time and day brings all ages.

We went to the White Rose, after seeing there menu on line. Menu looked good and they served after 9pm. Ordered two beers one Guinness and one Yingling. The Yingling was not cold and the Guinness was flat. Thought I would have a fish sandwich and asked the waiter if the chef battered and fried their own fish. He said sorry to say they buy it frozen. Thought to myself that's the same as McDonald's. Why would a restaurant with a chef not make their own fried fish. My wife had a chicken sandwich she said the chicken was tough. We sat outside on the porch the waiter would come by and then disappear for long periods of time if you wanted something you were out of luck. Disappointing Won't go back.

Food was average pub food by any standard. Staff is friendly and as busy as they were with the 4x4 event going on the manager stopped at every table to ask how everything was.

From the outside of this place... I was a little leery. Inside was actually modern and nicely renovated. The service was just "ok." Lady was kind of a strange bird. Anywho. I LOVE CRAB and this menu did not disappoint. Food: Appetizer--- Cream Cheese and Crab pretzel. Sounds weird but it had my two fav foods--- prexel and crab so I ordered it and it was GREAT! Soft pretzel and delish blend of cream cheese and crab... and I believe parm cheese. YUMMY! Entree-- I ordered the cajun seafood sandwich with OLD BAY AIOLI! SOOOOO GOOD! So good! HUGE chunks of lump crab meat! Nice size shrimp and scallop with a delish sauce. My husband thought he was playing it safe and ordered a cheeseburger which he didn't enjoy but I am not adding this experience in my review because the menu screamed SEAFOOD--- so his bad for not going with what this place prides themselves in! Def will be back!

One of my favorite places in York. Great menu & food is always good. Love coming on Tuesdays for $1 tacos. Crab pretzel appetizer is very good!!

When you first walk into this place you are greeted with very friendly staff. I arrived with a group of four from work and we did not have a wait. I ordered the All American burger that had cheese and bacon on it. I really was not expecting much because the menu is heavy in seafood. When I bit into this burger it was fantastic! One of the better burgers that I have had in a long time. I do want to point out that when the server brought us our food she only brought out three of our orders, we assumed the other guys food was still cooking, about ten minutes later the waitress comes back and asks him if his food never came out. They forgot to bring his food out, we had a nice laugh about it and that is why I docked it a star. Food was awesome and the beer was cheap, highly recommend this place for anyone looking for a great dinner.

Best crab cakes that I've ever had! It seems the crab cakes at many other restaurants these days are mostly filler with pitiful little crabmeat. This is not the case at the White Rose. The crab cakes here were mounds of lumb crab meat with just enough filler to hold it together and every bite was a delight. I enjoyed them so much that I returned the following morning for brunch and ordered their Crab Benedict, an eggs Benedict with a crab cake substituted for the ham, and it was just a good as the evening before. The service could be a bit more attentive, however. I had brunch in the dining room by the lower bar where the bar tender was also waiting all the tables in that area, and as friendly and attentive as she was, service would have been improved by another person working that room.

My boyfriend & I went to White Rose for both brunch and back for dinner on Saturday. The waitresses & bartender were all so nice. The bloody Mary's are HUGE, delicious, and only $5 during brunch! Our food was great, especially the wings & the crab pretzel. Great ambiance and outside seating is always a plus. Can't wait to go back!

I'm rarely disappointed with WR. Solid for lunch and dinner. My go to is the Prime Rib French Dip. I love the handmade chips as well. Great spot for an evening out, lunch meetings, etc. The two bars each have their own vibe. Something for everyone here.

Good dive in the middle of york PA! Fast service and fresh food. The waitress was a little flighty with the checks.

I asked for an orange crush and got a goblet full of delicious and strong alcoholic orange juice. I'm cool with that! The burger was 1/2 priced (it was a Sunday afternoon?) and ok. I was just passing through York and stopped by on a recommendation. I'd swing through again.

The amount of food you get for the price you pay is amazing. I had enough for more than two meals! The chicken I got was a bit overcooked, but everything else was good, especially our server!

I took the family here on a Friday evening for dinner before a show at the Strand. The service was decent, the food was ok but the restaurant is overpriced for the quality of food. Five of us just getting simple things like burgers, wraps and sodas cost over $100. A couple of us made the mistake of 'upgrading' the chips that come with the meal to fries. The fries were overcooked and not worth the extra charge. Yes, a place that charges $10+ for a burger also charges $2.50 extra for fries instead of potato chips. Not saying we'll never eat here again, but it's not high on our list of places to go back to.

Not for me. The waiters did not dress appropriate where there were too many tattoos exposed and their shorts were too short. The food didn't impress me as I am vegan. The menu lacked pictures which made it hard to choose.

Stopped in for dinner. I would rate the food a 4.5 but the service was terrible. We were told by the hostess that if we sat at a high top in the bar, a bartender would be right over to take our order. We waited 15 mins and no one came over. The bar was not crowded. My husband went to the bar to place our drink order and asked if someone could come take our order. The gentleman behind the bar was very courteous and apologized for the delay. After waiting another 10 minutes, my husband went over the the hostess and complained and another bartender finally came over. She stated that they were swamped. Never apologized, and gave us attitude. If this is how they treat their customers, we won't be back.

A group of 40 coworkers walked into the bar on a dead Thursday night to spend hundreds of dollars, and you decide kick 1 person out for wearing a tasteful white tank top (any other color is fine mind you). You're a great bar, White Rose, but don't think you're fancier than you are, fine drinking and dining you ain't.

Visiting a friend in York... I loved this restaurant. We sat out on the porch on a nice sunny day, the staff greeted us, the service was excellent, and enjoyed our food. My friend ordered the Monterey chicken sandwich and loved the seasoned veggies and flavor combination. I ordered the pork BBQ which hit the spot. The hand cooked chips tasted delicious with the seasoning. The menu had other options where you could cook your food on a volcanic rock, and many reasonably priced sandwiches and salads. Overall, we would return again! The manager even checked in to see how we were doing!! Great experience!

Like you're seafood... menu is limited and heavily geared for crab lovers. After dinner ordered deserts and again was disappointed. The atmosphere was nice but noisy. The wait staff was attentive when they were with you but they were spread a little thin. Our waitress was very helpful and I ensured that I tipped her well. That said... everything was over priced. It was all good... not great. The best value I received was the crab balls that were a $8 appetizer that delivered an order of six miniature ball shaped, deep fried crab cakes. (Note to chef: remoulade sauce.) The deserts looked like they had been recently un-boxed and plated. Sara Lee would have been proud of the cheesecake. Over all I was disappointed in the food and the price. Beer selection seemed geared toward a younger crowed as well. But there is good news. Attached to the place is a sub location. Possibly ran by someone else called Stogies! Guinness on tap and a humidor behind the counter. Left happy.

One of the best places to eat, drink, and hang out in York. Ask for a seat in the courtyard if it's available, nice to have a little view and the wall/roof opens in nice days. Lots of food and drink choices and everything we've ever had here was great. Some favorites are: Potato Skin App, Hereford Beef Filet Hot Rock, Prime Rib French Dip, Chicken Dip, and Vegetable Crab Soup. Weekend brunch is also awesome. Servers are friendly and great. It does get busy on weekends and First Friday, but a great place for any meal.

I was visiting from out of town and I unfortunately had to deal with the rudest bartender named Mike at the 1st bar. I asked for the chardonnay that was on special seconds after he told us all drinks were on special. He glared at me and growled ' I just said all drinks are on special' with a terrible attitude. I was never given a wine menu. As a matter of fact when I asked him what food he recommended he ignored me. He ruined my night with his attitude.

Waaaay overpriced!! We ordered the sampler the Super Sampler appetizer for $15.95. The bull and shrimp skewer was over cooked and not seasoned at all, when brought to the sever's attention she said just a sec and then she forgot about it. When the manager came out he got us another skewer and it came out the same way. The crab balls were made from some kind of cheap canned crab that looked like canned tuna fish and were about the size of a large marble. The entire thing was cold. Their menu says parties of 8 or more will have 20% gratuity added which would have been fine if it wasn't for the fact that our waitress had too many tables and couldn't keep our drinks filled. If you're going to enforce a gratuity on someone then you should supply the service for that gratuity (i.e. team servers). "Luckily" due to the other issues the gratuity wasn't enforced. My son ordered the kid's meal fish sandwich (which BTW is the same size as the regular fish sandwich but for almost half the price) his entire plate was cold and his fries appeared old and refried (refried fried foods is a bad practice several restaurants do in order to save time and food, they will cook mass quantities ahead of time and then just drop the item back in the fryer to heat back up). My wife ordered the hot beef sandwich which was so cold the the gravy covering everything had started to congeal. I ordered the brick house chicken with red skinned mashed potatoes and that was so cold that the mashed potatoes would not even melt the butter that I put on them. The menu description on the brick house chicken is as follows; Apple wood bacon wrapped chicken breasts topped with a honey dijon glaze, so to me that means the chicken breast will be WRAPPED in bacon, how does 2 thin (see thru thin) bacon laying in an x formation on top of my chicken constitute being wrapped?! The only upside was the glaze tasted nice but it too was cold and not enough of it. when I asked for more glaze it was brought out hot so it somewhat heated the chicken up. When the issues were brought to the manager's attention; he remade my wife's dinner (which he said would take 5 minutes and it took more like 15 or 20 minutes; long enough that everyone else was done eating and she had to eat after us), remade my mashed potatoes and did nothing for my son (I guess a kid's meal isn't important to the restaurant). The only thing he did was take 20% off the entire table's check; however upon looking at the receipt he just gave us a military discount which since we were there on Veteran's Day it seemed inappropriate to give us that discount since none of us ever served in the military and therefore did not earn such a discount. I do feel the order's that had mistakes should have been compt. I will never visit this establishment specifically for food again. The amount of money you spend there you should receive a better quality of food.

I have eaten at white rose on many occasions and I've always been satisfied. My girlfriend and I have had brunch frequently and loved it, I like the fact that she can get breakfast and I can indulge on surf and turf bennies. In the evening better get there early or it gets packed, the diver scallops and the seafood paella are wonderful. If you want a good meal and don't mind waiting on a busy night this is a good venue.

A guest and I visited The White Rose on a Friday evening around 8:15pm. We thought that since it was a bit after normal dinner hours that there would be no wait or a short wait, however that wasn't the case. After getting a drink at the bar our wait was about 45 minutes. When the hostess asked us to follow her she was practically running to the table. The table she took us to was dirty with crumbs and rim stains from the previous guests. The table looked like it was placed there to add additional seating, it was small and out of place. The waitress came to our table and seemed kind of like she was trying to rush us out. We ordered the crab pretzel as an appetizer and the taste was phenomenal. For entrees we ordered the haddock fish sandwich with a side of clam chowder, and my guest ordered the chicken chesapeake. The soup arrived about 10 minutes before the sandwich which I was disappointed in because I had hoped it would've arrived with the sandwich. My guests food looked sad when it came to the table, a flattened chicken breast with a crab cake on top. Served on a huge plate with a side of mashed potatoes. Some how I received free fries in addiction to my sandwich and I tried one just to see the taste, and I was disgusted. The fries were hard as a rock like they had been sitting around for a while. My sandwich was amazing and the chicken chesapeake was good. We were so full from the appetizer that we took most of our entrees home and shared with family. They were astonished with the taste of the food. The reason for the 3 stars is due to the atmosphere, it was loud and I felt very rushed during my meal. I also did not enjoy the loudness of the room that we sat in. I felt as if the sound bounced off the walls and right back into the room. The food was wonderful, not so much the presentation. We will be back, but maybe on a week night or for lunch, when it is not so busy or loud.

Ok so we made a reservation and did not get seated for another hour and 15 minutes. Food came and some was cold.other food had to go back. Pasta was not drained and had a bowl of water in it. NEVER EVER going back. The manager was less then caring about the wait or the poor food quality.

Great bar and restaurant. For our first weekend in York, visiting friends, we've started off right! Excellent selection of standards and local brews on tap. The menu is ambitious and they live up to the challenge. My wife and I shared the Crab Pretzel and a caesar salad to start. The Pretzel might be the best thing i've eaten in a long time. For our mains, my wife had a hereford steak and lobster tail combination. I had the cedar salmon. The kitchen had no problem keeping up with my dietary restrictions, keeping the sauce on the side for my salmon. The fish was fresh and cooked right - i can't eat it if its got a hint fishy-ness, and this didn't have that. For dessert, we split a Vanilla Creme Brule. Cooked perfectly, the custer was silky and the sugar brulee was cooked just right. I hate when its solid like glass - I'm not trying to eat rock candy. The server was really friendly, popped in at the right times and stayed away at the right times. The bill was affordable. We'll definitely be back.

My wife and I visited this establishment for the first time last night to meet a friend of ours from Eastern PA. We had never been here before so we didn't know what to expect. I have driven by this place a few times and always liked the way it looked from the outside. Since it was so hot the evening we went, we chose to eat inside. When we went inside we were surprised by the amount of room inside. It is deceiving from the outside. We passed by two bars on our way to our seats. Then I found out that they had another bar for those who smoke and it was enclosed with it's own ventilation so people who do not smoke won't be bothered by the smoke. We ordered a crab pretzel which was good but very heavy since there was a lot of cheese mixed in with the crab. The entrees came out as ordered and I must say I was rather pleased with the portion size for the price. The food was good and I had no complaints with the taste of the food. If you are looking for something new, give this place a try. If you are a smoker and want to be able to enjoy a drink while having a smoke, this is a great place for you. I don't smoke anymore but I do know that when I did, I loved being able to light up at the bar while enjoying a nice cold beer. Thank you for reading my review. This review is based on my personal experience and opinion.

We went here for my brother's graduation dinner. The place has a lot going for it--lots of space, including outdoor seating areas, good tap selection and reasonably priced drinks. The food is hit or miss. The quesadilla seemed to be seasoned with fajita seasoning and did not taste anything better than what you would make at home. It was nothing special and the portion seemed a bit small (3 pieces). The crab pretzel was tasty but a bit soggy--not as good as Ryleigh's or Bill Batemann's down in Baltimore. I ordered grilled haddock with vegetables and potatoes. The haddock was overcooked and very, very dry. The vegetables were tasty but a bit soggy. The potatoes were good but also a bit dry. That said, my husband's NY strip was perfectly cooked and delicious. The sweet potato fries were cooked perfectly, although I did not care for the cinnamon sugar sprinkled on top. My family all seemed to enjoy their food.

This place is not bad for dinner. I've only come here with a large group which probably skews my review slightly in that it's unusual to have 8 or more people at one table. The food that i've gotten has always been fairly good, but there was a lack of healthy vegetarian options in my opinion. I'm not a vegetarian and I don't mind some meat, but I don't like just eating a big piece of meat. And for the most part, it seemed like a lot of their really good meals were just that. A meat centered entree or seafood (which I'm not usually in the mood for). The service was fine and I think everyone seemed to enjoy their food. It just wasn't my favorite kind of place.

My wife and I ended up here on a date night. We had an excellent time. I liked the White Rose a lot. There were a number of different dining areas, and bars to choose from. It was a Sunday evening, and it wasn't super crowded. The atmosphere was excellent, and it wasn't overly noisy. I ordered a Reuben sandwich. It was great. It came out hot, with perfectly toasted rye bread, a generous serving of corned beef and pastrami. The cheese was nice and melty (I'm sure that's not a word), and the sauerkraut wasn't overpowering. Served with a pickle and a heaping of pub chips, that were made fresh it was a great pub meal. The chips. Oh man, the chips. I love a good house made potato chip. These were perfect. Not too thin, not too think. Crispy without any taste of burn or oil. Splash a generous amount of malt vinegar and Old Bay on them, and I dare you not to two fist them. Yeah, they're that good. The beer selection isn't what I though it would be for a highly touted local bar. I guess, if you want a long beer list, go one block up. I still managed to get a really good local draft beer. The name and details escape me at the moment, so that should say a little bit about the selection. It was good enough to mention, but not good enough to have made an impression on a wannabe beer snob like me. All in all, this was a great experience. It's moderately priced, but worth paying. I'll go back again.

Went to the White Rose for the first time tonight. Wait was minimal and the service was AMAZING. Danielle S was our server and she was personable and checked on often I had an issue with my meal which she immediately took care of. A manager came over to apologize then came back when my food was served to be sure everything was still ok. You don't often see service like that these days! Food was delicious and portions were big. We'll definitely be going back again!!

I've been her a couple of times for dinner and also for brunch. The food is decent- my favorite is the grilled Cesar salad. They have covered outdoor seating which is good, but it's right on the main road so the cars and motorcycles roar by and it's not very peaceful. Also- the drinks are incredibly weak! We even brought guests here from out of town and they complained about it. Yea, an $8 fishbowl is a decent deal, but not when there's only a drop of alcohol in it. We complain to the waiter about it every time, wish the management would fix the problem.

When passing through York, I stopped in for a drink, or two, or three. The staff was friendly, drinks were good, and there were even some great meal specials. There are two bars inside so if the main bar is full by th entry, head down stairs. The restaurant had multiple dining rooms and I really liked that. If I was staying in town overnight I would have definitely gone back.

I really like the vibe in here but the food is so-so. The sandwiches are all what you'd expect but nothing jumps out. Cheese-steak apps are legit. The "Hot Rock" items are so overrated its not even worth it unless the whole table gets em. Took me forever to cook my scallops and shrimp, the rest of the table was on the desert menu and I was still "cookin". Complete fad. Beers are super cheap compared to bigger cities and the selection is legit. All in all- good vibe, good people watching. Good looking people too...for York PA. Would recommend again. It's our go to when in York.

Everything I've ever eaten here has just been okay. Think there's more hype surrounding it and people think they're extremely classy by going here. Newsflash, you're still in York! Being a grill, I got pork BBQ. My meat was dry, not flavorful, and had little to no sauce on it. Not sure what my husband got, clearly not very memorable. Nothing at all to write home about besides the atmosphere. It's a pretty place to eat and the patio seating is nice on days that aren't extremely hot. Pretty sure every time we've gone, there was a wait. Did I mention it's loud? Very loud. Like forget about having a conversation sometimes loud lol.

The mad Russian and I had the itching for a road trip and over the long holiday weekend, we decided to see the nice folks in Amish country, Lancaster. Finding a cool hotel in York in the historic district led us to this fine establishment by way of the nice man at the front desk. Only a short walk from the hotel and sitting prominently on the corner, The White Rose B&G offers both indoor and outdoor seating- which is a definite plus. The main bar area is very laid back and casual- a great meeting place for friends- but don't eat in this area if you need a quiet conversation as it is very loud here. We opted to eat out on the patio and enjoyed the comparative quiet. Our server came quickly and offered us drinks and explained the menu. Hungry, but not quite starving, we chose to have the shrimp and scallops with sides of grilled veggies and a Caesar salad. The magic of this meal is that they bring the ingredients out raw and you cook them on a flat stone that's brought out to you at 650 degrees. Cover the rock with some salt to prevent sticking and you can literally watch as your food gets cooked to perfection. Our shrimp and scallops were cooked in a few minutes. If you happen to also order the seared tuna appetizer as we did, save the soy and wasabi sauce leftover for your "hot-rock" scallops and shrimp- it was so good and the wasabi fresh and "clear-your-pores" good. Throw in tap beers for $3.50 and you've had a great meal for less than $50. We recommend this restaurant highly and if ever back in this neck of the woods, would return in a heartbeat.

I recently dropped in to White Rose to see what all the fuss is about. I give them 3.5 stars (unfortunately, we can't give half stars). Here's the breakdown: Service: Great. Waiting in the bar for a table, the chill bartender quickly noticed me and gave me a sample of beer when I asked. Our waiter was also very friendly and eager to answer any questions and provide suggestions. Food: Split the Hot Rock Sampler for Two with my girlfriend (see photos). It's an interesting experience. Actually a pretty good option for those looking for lean protein with veggies. The rock is hot enough that a little salt is all that is needed so it won't stick - no fat needed! My rock may have been a little too cool - by the end, it wasn't providing much heat. My girlfriend's, on the other hand, kept cooking all the foods the whole time. My father had ordered a hot rock before and said the rock usually stays hot the whole time. The steak was nice and tender (though it took a while to cook through to a medium rare, shrimp was sweet and succulent, and the tuna seared up well (though I ended up eating most of the sushi grade tuna my preferred way: raw). The scallops took a while to cook through without getting a solid sear. The mushrooms and onions were alright and the seaweed salad was a bit of an afterthought (it's also an acquired taste). A small side of ginger infused soy sauce provides a little flavor booster that I think goes best with the tuna. I tried my brother's White Rose burger. It was actually cooked to a real medium, not the overcooked medium typical of most bar/grills. The BBQ pork mixed with beef was a different, yet very tasty variation. The sweet potato fries are good; don't bother with the honey dip as they're sweet as they are. The grilled vegetable side is delicious with a nice smokiness from the grill. The Caesar salad is standard. The vegetable of the day, broccolini, was nicely cooked with salt and garlic. Definitely worth going again, as long as I can abide the noise and don't intend to have an in-depth conversation. I recommend trying it out.

Outdoor dining on the streets of York, PA. Could be cheaper, especially considering it's in York, but actually much nicer restaurant than I thought it would be. Wings were not bad. Really nice cutie pie server. (I think his name was Brian.) This place is right across the street from an awesome-looking farmer's market, non-chain food courtish place. So why go here? The food courtish place is only open three days a week. So, if you go there on the WRONG day (like someone I know) the White Rose can be a decent substitute. I sat outside. Restaurant is absolutely huge inside and also has several outside patios. Well, at least two.

Great choice for a Monday lunch downtown. Outdoor seating a plus -- you aren't right on the street. The menu is varied. The grilled cheese is delicious.

Birthday lunch here today and must say the food and service was great. Fish entrees were fresh and well-prepared. Wait staff was attentive and caught our mood and joined in. Parking was tricky surely because it was a busy day in York but after a few minutes we found spots in the lot out back. We'll be back.

This is my husband's favorite lunch spot in the city - I'm moderately keen on it. Everything I've gotten at white Rose has been between okay and pretty good. Best thing I've had here was a salmon burger from their specials menu - it was excellent. The ambiance is very nice, especially if you get a seat in their atrium/patio on a warm day when they have the roof opened up. This is really why I go. You can't beat the outdoor seating at White Rose! Overall, it's simply pretty good. Nothing negative, but nothing outstanding aside from the patio. One downfall is the noise level indoors on evening and weekends - unless you're going for the bar, be forewarned - it's deafening inside.

Great Salads (my favorite is the Three Pit Chef Salad) and Burgers, there is always a good crowd here but I've never had to wait long for a table. Great ambience, and the bar is nice and open and there's also a great outdoor patio area. Be sure to come here on Sundays for half price burgers, totally worth it. Decent drink prices too, be sure to check their website for a list of specials.

I was only here a few times for drinks (never ordered any food). I've been to the front bar and the one in the back and both seem to have friendly staff and a good pour.

We take trips to York when there's something fun going on at the Strand Theater. The last time we had gotten out after a stand-up show, I noticed the White Rose seemed like the after-theater stop for a lot of folks. We thought we'd check it out after a more recent show. It was about 11 pm on a Saturday night and the place was PACKED. As previous reviewers have mentioned, the noise level is on the higher end. It seemed to be transitioning from restaurant to bar--lots of folks seemed to be filing in to drink more than eat. Nothing wrong with that, but if you're looking for a serene dining experience, this isn't it. Our server was extremely helpful. We had lots of questions. I wouldn't recommend this place for vegans--there is one possible option (stir fried veggie platter) and making modifications seemed to be difficult. This was not for lack of our server's trying to help--just the way the kitchen was set up. The carnivore we were with had a burger and enjoyed it quite a bit. Our veggie platter (which my partner and I split) was okay--nothing remarkable. They had some decent local beer choices and we tried three or four brews. Everything on the menu was slightly more expensive than other places in the vicinity. We won't be back to eat due to lack of chow options for us, but I would definitely return there to have a drink after a show. Any meat-eaters wouldn't have a problem getting a standard meal here.

Nice atmosphere in downtown section, parking across the street. You can dine in or outdoors and the food was above average for a B&G. Service was top notch as our waitress came by numerous times to check on water, drinks. I'll be back again. This was also recommended by my hotel desk.

The White Rose Bar has the best food and an awesome Happy Hour between 4:30 and 6:30. There is no where in York that will beat this. But the best part is the wonderful bartenders. They are professional, personable and always there to serve. Been there many many times and have never found a fault with the bartenders! They are a awesome. Although, the bar manager, Sarah, I overheard her name, needs to learn from her own bartenders. She is rude, unprofessional and a complete opposite of what the White Rose stands for. I consistently see her being rude to customers and employees. Someday Tom and Jeremiah will see that she is hurting their business. Try not to let that person keep you for having a great time at the White Rose. She needs to go. It is humiliating and uncomfortable.

A group of us from out-of-town was there for dinner on a early Sunday evening. To our pleasant surprise, food quality was very good. And they had interesting selections on the menu. All of us really enjoyed our meals. They used very good quality ingredients. And prices were quite reasonable. Our waiter, Alan, was very nice and attentive. Our foods arrived pretty quickly. (1) My friends really liked the popular burgers highly recommended by other. (2) cream of crab soup in freshly baked bread bowl had nice flavor with lots of crab meat. (3) seafood paella (claim, crab meat, mussel, fish, and shrimp in saffron sauce with Couscous) was an excellent choice. I love it. (4) the broil Haddock(fish) sandwich was also very good. Since this is a bar/grill, it can be noisy and may be "smoky," too.

3.499999 stars You shouldn't judge a place by it's brunch menu, but this is all I have to go on here. WRB&G rocks for brunch so there you go. Omelets were decent, I had the Gravlax, plenty of salmon, capers are the standard for me and the goat cheese tied it all together. I also tried a Cup of Cream Chipped Beef, yum. Most of the food here seems be more hearty and in the comfort food quadrant. We sat inside at high top to the side of the bar, too hot for us outside. $5 Bloody Mary was huge, perfectly spiced. Service was speedy for a packed brunch on a Sunday. * would go back here for lunch or dinner. * off street parking in the back. * bar looked quite inviting, decent choice for after work.

We are from Lancaster but were in the York area for Taste of PA and are so glad we stopped here for dinner. We both had burgers and they were delicious and HUGE. The service was decent and the atmosphere was what we expected for a Saturday late afternoon. Good place!

I ate here this past Sat... they have a lovely outdoor patio, where you can people-watch... they are on a fairly busy street and right across from the farmers market, so it's a good location. Their menu is fairly standard, though they do offer sandwiches on wraps or pretzel rolls, which is nice. I got the grilled buffalo chicken sandwich on a pretzel roll, and it came with home-made potato chips... My friend got a grilled caesar salad (which is a head of romaine, grilled up and topped with cheese and caesar dressing) with shrimp on top, and since I tasted it I can report back that it was yummy. Our waitress was friendly enough but not overwhelmingly nice or helpful. We were there around 2pm on a Sat afternoon so I guess it was the slow time of day...

Very good food. I ate for Sunday brunch. Had the Philly skillet omelette, very tasty. The sweet potatoes set it off. Service was good, no wait for inside seating. The outside seating looked nice but we decided to be seated right away.

I had the Three Pit Chef Salad which was delicious and larger than I expected! Three different types of pit roasted meat on top of greens with an assortment of other vegetables. My girlfriend had some sort of burger with thousand island dressing on it. She was not impressed, nor was I. It seems to be White Rose's answer to In N Out's Burger, but since she's from Southern California her expectations were high. The burger was somewhat dry, and the amount of sauce on it was pitiful. On a more favorable note, the lettuce, tomato and onion that came with it were fresh.

One of the most popular bars in York. It has really come a long way in the past decade. White Rose is almost always busy, so it's a loud, bustling place - not really intimate date material. I've always enjoyed the food at White Rose - it's definitely a "grill" and the best fare is their casual fare. I'm a huge fan of the crab pretzel, the grilled caesar salad and the pit salad, served in a big tortilla bowl. On Saturdays and Sundays, they have a great brunch until 2 pm. Also on Sundays, half priced burgers.

Great spot for thur-sat. Always something going on. Food is good. I had the ahi dinner last time and though it's not exactly sushi grade or seared to keep it rare, it was still good.

To be honest with you, it is one of the most popular places in downtown York but really more popular as a bar than as a grill. The food is decent, I had the blackened chicken alfredo which was disappointing. There was barely a quarter pound worth of chicken on this massive plate of pasta. Also, management, if you are reading your reviews, tell your kitchen to wait at least 10 minutes after sending out the salad before giving me my dinner. I had to put it aside until I finished my salad which by then was cold. If you think I am gonna send it back to the kitchen so you can microwave it, forget about it. Overall, I would recommend it for a night spot if you are looking for a place that's popular with the locals downtown. Hell, it is almost the ONLY place to go downtown after dark.

Was just here for a Tuesday evening business dinner. We had a beer at the main bar before being seated and was able to try the Liquid Hero Amber. That is a huge plus and I was excited to give it a try. The service was very good and the server was promp with drinks at the table. I had the Texas burger that was very good and actuaally cooked perfectly. Jason had this stone cooked meal that was really cool. They bring this slab of rock out that is 600 degrees and you cook your steak as you like. I thought this was fasinating and a original idea. Then I finished up the night with a Liquid Hero Strawberry Wheat. The guys I had with me really seemed to enjoy the meal. I will be bring other people here when they are in town.

Love their food. Been my favorite restaurant for a long time and still hasn't disappointed. Only thing I didn't like was the pirana ribs they had a few years ago. Prices go from less than ten bucks for a sandwich and fries to high end beef tenderlon and sea food.

I truly like this place, I've been here for lunch (good sandwiches, some of the best burgers around, and quick service), dinner (great meals and awesome wings), and late nights (loud and crowded, just the way I like it). The fish and chips are definitely worth a try! I like the open-to-the-outdoors seating. The beer list could be longer, they offer very few craft beers.

I'm brand new here in town for work. Just got here today and figured I would drive around downtown to find a decent place to eat at. I drove by this place and it looked rather nice. So i parked in the parking lot across the street (allowed to park there after 5pm) and went on over to the restaurant. The weird part of this place is that the front entrance isn't the one that looks like the front entrance. And it took me just a few minutes to get noticed. But once I brought myself to the bartender's attention, I was able to grab a seat and a waitress was sent my way. The menu's got seafood, steak and some higher priced item, but it also has some reasoneable items like salad and such. I ordered Blackened Scallop and Shrimp Ceasar Salad. The waitress was friendly, and the food came in a very decent amount of time. The croutons were still warm. :) The shrimps were declicious and the scallops were cooked JUST right--they were super tender. The only coplaint I had would be the flour tortilla used as the "bottom" of the salad was a lil stale. That salad and a coffee added up to 12.93 including tax. Can't say I would complain about prices like what. All in all a very pleasant experience. Oh one great thing--my dopey head had forgotten my credit card behind, and the waitress came calling after me, "honey.. your card." What a sweetie!

consistently decent. decent service, solid 'bar' food and some above average entres. A great bar and hang out. It's a shame york doesn't have more places like this for young people to mingle. If we were just judging the place as a bar its a 4/5. The food is perfect for a lunch or for something to accompany a good beer. Very good sandwiches! Great BLT and BBQ pork sandwich!! Since it's large, it is also a great place to go with a group of people. My rating is a 3.5 because its not a pure 3, but its not a 4-5.

Just wanted to give a quick shout-out to my most recent server. She really took care of me and I had such a great time here! The hostesses were also really accommodating because I wanted to sit outside and it was pretty packed and I was alone, but they still let me sit there. I ordered the lox and cream cheese bagel with capers and red onions to try it out for the first time during brunch. I didn't realize the salmon wasn't going to be completely raw...I guess I knew lox was cured but didn't like the way it smelled and how it had brown on the sides on it. I only had a few bites and told the waitress I would order something else since it was my own stupid fault for ordering something I wasn't sure I would like. To my complete surprise, she got the manager to comp 50% of that meal. SOOOOO nice! I bought it fully aware that I might not like it and they comp'd me even so! Also, she was more than willing to tell the cooks how to make a faux mignonette for my raw oysters! This girl rocked! Service like that makes me want to keep coming back!

Went to White Rose on a Saturday night around 6:30. It was very busy. We waited about 20 minutes. They don't take reservations but have a "call ahead" policy. Whatever that may be, there were a bunch of people who came in after us and were seated before us. The food was excellent. We started with a ceasar salad that was excellent. Next, we had wings which were absolutely delicious (some of the best I ever had). For dinner I had a blackened chicken sandwich topped with bleu cheese. It was average. My girlfriend had a crab cake dinner which was very good. Our total bill was less than $40. Definitely worth going to, but call ahead so you don't have to wait as long.

Overall: The White Rose Bar & Grill has quite a bit to offer, generally though I'm willing to try another place first. Weak points: Food. I haven't tried their signature Hot Rocks, which surely are an experience and -so they claim - real delight. I have had drinks, sandwiches, appetizers, and plate dinners. Strong points: Atmosphere is defiantly a strong suit. The location is nice. The available off street parking is also convenient. And the building and table/seating is relatively elegant and of good, albeit a somewhat conventional, taste. There are multiple bars in the White Rose (three in total ~ for a real adventure travel to the smoke bar) and if you like having the game on, meeting type-A personalities, you'll probably like this place. In Conclusion: The White Rose is a little bit corporate and a little bit home town unique. It carries the emblem of the White Rose (York County) district, but hopefully not the essence in full. Brunch there can be nice, as they offer outdoor seating and it's hard to mess up brunch.

Offers great sandwiches (try the pit smoked turkey sandwich) as well as great dinner entrees. Try the Hot Rocks which are 600 degree volcano rocks that you use to cook either scallops, shrimp, sushi-grade tuna, or a hereford beef fillet. The steak is the most tender juicy cut possible. It cuts easily and melts in your mouth. Costs $26. On Sundays they have half-price burgers which are phenomenal. We've had mixed experiences with the service. Sometimes it's good, sometimes it's horrible and we're ready to walk out. For this reason we don't visit the White Rose like we used to. The drinks are also a problem. We've been told that they have some very good bartenders, but we've always had bad experiences ordering mixed drinks and just stick with beer now. So the food is fantastic, the service is sometimes great and sometimes awful (just depends on who you get) and the drinks are sometimes great and sometimes they give you a cosmo that's bright red (should be pink) and contains no alcohol as far as you can tell. Still, I recommend the place to friends and family members.

Our food was great, the price wasn't bad at all, and the drinks were the best. We sat on the patio and it was pouring rain. The patio has a roof so we didn't get wet, and it was pretty cool to eat while watching the rain. I wasn't impressed with the server we had. She took forever to take our order, never checked back after dropping off the food, and left our drinks run dry. I would like to hope she was just having a bad night. I will give the White Rose Bar & Grill another try, and hopefully be able to give them another star or two in the end.

Until recently, I hadn't been here in quite awhile. The food has always been decent and I've never had any complaints. There are actually 3 separate bar areas here. They have a bar where smoking is allowed and they sometimes have some live music being played by some local musicians. They have a semi-indoor bar that opens up into the sidewalk. Then there is an indoor bar too. I would definitely reccomend this bar/restaurant to anyone that wants to have a few drinks and a good meal in downtown York.

This is the only decent atmosphere place in York, Pa. However the food had gotten progressively worse as the the last couple years has gone by. They are starting to really take shortcuts on the food. No more tortilla salad bowls. Just seems like the quality is slipping.

The beautiful facade, the building, it all looks so inviting but don't be fooled, the food was terrible. My family was so disappointed. We sat in the back and ended up swatting flies off our food the entire meal but quickly gave up and surrendered our food to the flies because it was that bad. Truthfully, I wouldn't have been surprised if the flies rejected it. We ordered the appetizer sampler and it was virtually inedible. The crab balls were downright awful, the coconut shrimp bland and dry, the meat on the skewers was totally raw. I could go on but you get the idea. We left more than half uneaten. I ordered the chesapeake chicken which had a crab cake with it. Seriously, I've had better crab cake in a Bklyn diner and White Rose is supposed to be about seafood. It was so awful I had to tell the server when she asked. They took $10 off the entree charge which was $24 but still when all was said and done, we paid far too much for a lousy meal. My partner ordered a pasta w/blackened chicken and shrimp and that seemed to be decent but just that, decent. That's the only good thing I can say about this place.

I always stop in York on the way back from my sister's place in New York state. The reason I stop is to have lunch at the White Rose. The pit beef sandwich, with accompanying barbecue sauce, is one of the best sandwiches I've ever had. As much as "melt-in-your-mouth" is a cliche, it fits here. The beef is extremely tender and has an intoxicating smokiness. I've also had their shrimp salad wrap and it was not overloaded with dressing/mayonnaise, had a nice touch of celery salt (I'm pretty sure that's the flavor I noticed) and was served on a pliable, not-dry wrap. The White Rose (almost) makes me wish I lived in York so I could go there for lunch every day. I can't give it 5 stars because i haven't sampled enough of the menu, but I'm looking forward to it ...

  • Curtis F.

Curtis: It was hard to decide between 2 or 3 stars, simply because that the food and nightlife are two very separate scenarios. My girlfriend and I keep coming and trying to eat here for lunch, but are always disappointed. They make some hearty, mediocre sandwiches, but not enjoying those very much, we've lost interest in trying anything else. They just never seem to hit the mark. The nightlife is great though, they have some interesting cocktails, great seating and outdoors, and fair prices. It's one of the better places to go in York for a good night out. Their staff is great, never had a problem, but again, the kitchen needs some work. They've recently renovated and the place is looking much better. A good place to drink and have fun, not the best if you're looking for a great lunch/dinner. Lauren: I recommend sticking with appetizers and drinks. Their french onion soup is better than average, better than your typical dinner. Service has always been good, and accomodating. I really love the ambiance and the paintings they have hung around the dining area. I agree with Curtis, this place is fun to meet friends for a drink (malli-booty) but not so much for lunch or dinner.

Nice atmosphere. Decent beer selection. Extremely limited vegetarian dishes. I wish they had more veg-friendly food, because the place would be a lot of fun to go back to.

  • Eric N.

Most people I know rave about this place, but I think 4 stars is the most I can give it. They have a really good selection of food, including some interesting dishes like the "hot rock tuna" where they bring you raw sushi-grade tuna and a hot rock and you can cook it to your own taste. I've never been disappointed here, but I'm not typically blow away either. There is an outdoor patio with a roof for days when the weather is nice.

Glorified pub food. That would be this review in 3 words. The inside is nice, wait staff was pleasant, the flat screens throughout had sports televised and the food was fine. Nothing spectacular. I would say this would be a nice place to grab a burger and a beer with decent pub food. This place would cater best to luncheon crowd for their extensive sandwich and burger list. Dinner wise, there selection of entrees were boring. But again, the menu is definitely more of a pub than restaurant.

White Rose is kind of 3 different places in one- they have a smoking lounge section, which is mostly full at night for beer drinkers and pub-grub eaters. They have a giant warehouse-y type section, and then they have their new remodeled section which is more like a refined pub. If you have a choice, I'd say definitely go for the new remodeled section on the corner. It has outdoor seating for most of the year, which is great for summer nights, and a nice hard wood and stone interior. The menu is a mixture of good American classics, and slightly fancier cafe food. Their specialty is their pit-cooked meats which you can get on salads and in sandwiches. Menu picks: burgers, pit-beef sandwiches, crab pretzels, grilled caesar salads.

I have eaten and drank at White Rose several times over the past few years and my only complaint is that is can get very noisy in the dining area since it is right by one of the bars. If you are looking for a fairly quiet meal, I would recommend dining early and probably skipping Friday night which we've noticed seem to get very busy with the after work crowd. The food is some of the best around York- We usually order an entree that you cook at the table using a hot rock (they bring you out a special stone that is preheated in an over at some ridiculously high temp and you actually cook your meal a bite at a time). I prefer to do this especially with steak so each and every bite is hot, fresh and cooked to your liking. They actually have a hot rock platter for 2 that we have gotten which is way more food and we can eat, includes filet, shrimp, scallops and tuna as well as salad and a side. Their Zinfandel vinagrette is a unique and delicious salad dressing that I always look forward to! The cream of crab soup is also some of the best I've had (The only place I think can top it is Roosevelt Tavern). The chocolate peanut butter cake is very good for dessert too. If you are looking for an upscale drinking spot the White Rose is great! Their selection is great as is the ambiance. However, they could use a few more restrooms for the women! I've had to use the mens room on occasion to avoid a long line for the women's restroom.

The food was average. The service was poor. The crab bisque and french onion were bland. The grilled caesar was good but under dressed. The seafood combination was mixed, the shrimp and scallops were good but the fillet and crabmeat were flavorless and dissapointing. The actual sauce was tasty but the grilled veggies were a little too oily and the mashed potatoes were also bland. My girlfriend ordered the mojito and we couldn't taste a drop of alcohol (but it tasted good).

Came here for lunch during a historical tour of York. The staff is friendly, there was no wait, and I liked the ambiance inside and outside. I was seated outside on the patio which gave me a chance to watch the locals doing everyday things it was a decent view for York all I can remember was this big clock across the street and the cool art work all over the small area I was in. The coconut shrimp was served with a weird jelly concoction I give a E for effort but I was not impressed with the shrimp they were not seasoned all that well and the jelly that came with it did not satisfy what was needed to bring this dish together. A better dipping sauce would have set the shrimp off. I also had the grilled ceasar salad it was a interesting concept so I figured I would try something new. Now that I had it I will stick to regular Romaine lettuce, grilled wasn't bad but it didn't do anything for my salad. The salad was topped with scallops and shrimp, the proportions were a nice size and they provided a good amount of seafood. The seafood could have been seasoned better it was very salty I did not taste anything other than salt. Overall, the service was great, food was ok, and the ambience was nice. If I'm ever in town again i might try the crab cakes.

This is a fairly popular restautant in York. I've tried it on several occassions. Each time I visited I always thought it was nicely laid out and clean. The menu is fairly diverse presenting typical American foods along with some of their own creations like the one where you cook your own meat on a hot rock. In the end I wasn't that impressed with the food preperation, it was mediocre at best. The presentation was fine but the taste just wasn't there. Apparantly others are able to find something I am not. As I said they do a good business especially the younger crowds in the evenings and weekends when it"s warm out and they open several outdoor patios I'll often drive past and see them overflowing with people. On the cost side they are middle of the road and probably one of two in that category in the area. Maybe it explains the draw of people as several restaurants in the area are definately pushing pricey meals.

Nice atmosphere for dinner and drinks with friends. Not very family oriented. Food is a little pricey I think, for York PA.
