Made easter reservations. We specifically inquired if the regular pub menu would be available, as two members of our party don't enjoy most gourmet options many places have on their easter menus. They confirmed that the regular menu would be available. When we arrived, we found that our reservation was wrong, and we had to be seated alone in the unused bar area. We were then told that they were not offering their regular menu at all. Two members of our party couldn't eat anything on the special menu. Thanks, Roosevelt, for ruining what should have been a wonderful family holiday.

Very nice evening meal here. Hubby tried the watermelon corn gazpacho and I grabbed a spoonful - heaven! Highly recommend. Crab cakes were good but we've had better (White Rose in York a few blocks east). Lobster tail made a big hit, and salmon very pleasant. Ordered a white zin but not available: replaced with a successful moscato. Unheard-of bread pudding dessert with chocolate and peanut butter and I-forget-what-else but holy cow was it fabulous. Also unexpected was walnut ice cream: a dreamy treat. Coffee can be a make or break for us and RT passed the test. All in all we look forward to returning. Sides like corn pudding with crispy paper/thin potato curls call to us.

I normally like this place. Bring work events here and in the past no issues. However, tonight was not good. My salmon was good but my wife ordered the beef tips. They were tough and chewy...to the point of inedible. Interesting that the entree was $26...that comes later. Then when we brought it up (and my wife never does this but I tasted it and it wasn't good) they said that is the way these are cooked would you like to do the filet mignon instead and she agreed. Now everyone else ate when she got the filet. And...it too was tough and chewy (medium rare)....For a filet that is not good! So now we told the waitress to tell the chef he must had a bad cut of meat. But then the bill came and it had the cost of the filet at $32 bucks! Now, I paid it but wouldn't you think that at least they would have given the filet (after we complained again) at the original price entree? To me that is just poor customer service to me. I know people do this sometimes to get a free meal but we don't. Result, not a place I will go again or take customers. Too bad, since I used to like this place.

Only a 'meh. Pumpkin bisque and French onion soups had great flavor but were served lukewarm (only a few tables in the place so it wasn't busy at all), chèvre cheese salads were very tasty, and the rest of the food was only marginal. Mixed Drinks were overpriced and too small. Like I said, only a 'meh experience

Food was excellent. I ordered the salmon which came with risotto. The salmon was great but the risotto was even better. I'd recommend the cream of crab soup as well. Overall, it was a great restaurant that I definitely will be going back to.

Confession - visiting York to visit relatives and came for dinner to check out the new ownership. The place looked great , pleasant staff. Had a great Chardonnay, the guys had Some great craft beer . The food was great ! Probably the best I have ever had in York. Prices though rival NYC... Unpleasant surprise, but the food was good with refined presentation. The one thing that would happen in NYC though, if you found multiple bones in our fish plates we would have been comped for at least one of the dishes. But I am told from my relatives that that is not the York way. We will save this place for special occasions perhaps and ask the prices of specials before ordering them. Or perhaps special can have a removable listing in the menu. After all that, I would totally recommend this restaurant . Keep York classy!

Good but not great! Okay , York has some great restaurants and there are other more trendy spots, but this succeeds by doing meat and seafood in basic, but satisfying execution. The Roosevelt has a lot of parking and is a very inviting place. We ate in the main dining room, but there is also a bar area that was quite lively the night we were there. I was impressed that they not only had a number of interesting "specials", but also made a point of mentioning what items are locally sourced. I had a the small filet and it was well seasoned and cooked to perfection. Service was excellent, although one of our guests was a long-time customer, I still felt as though everyone gets a warm and pleasant greeting.

This is for the pub side only. The staff was very nice. We ordered skyblue burger and that was good except the bottom roll was so soggy I asked for a replacement roll. The french fries were frozen. I had hoped for more with the fries since it is considered a gourmet spot around here. The ambiance is nice. I would return to try the restaurant side but not in a big hurry to do so.

This review is for the restaurant side, not the pub side... This place has been in York forever, so a lot of my parents' generation used to frequent here. Now it's sort of in a strange in-between which makes the crowd a mix of the folks that've been going there for years and a younger crowd just trying it out. Every time I've gone here I've been slightly underwhelmed by the food, despite how much I want to like it as one of those "good old places." They changed owners in 2012 and I've heard it's a little better now. Lot's of people like their crab soup. They do run specials and different events, which is nice to see a restaurant working to stay involved in the community.

The Roosevelt Tavern is now one of the best restaurants in York. We have been in 3 times since it opened under new ownership, once for brunch and twice for dinner. Each time, we have been really impressed. We used to come here with the in-laws every once and a while and we just thought it was ok. Now, they are preparing everything from scratch and sourcing their ingredients locally. The service has been top-notch. The staff is kept well informed about the menu. Beer selection is small, but I was able to get a Nugget Nectar draft, so I was happy. I've heard that some of the old regulars are upset that they no longer get to choose their own sides. Let's be honest, mashed potatoes and vegetable medley don't go with everything. The chef knows how to put together dishes that complement each other extremely well. We will go back as often as we can.

The main dining room is drab. And, when not sitting in the main area you can also sit in the corner of a random side room that is about 40 degrees with no windows in sight. The food was awful. I would have rather ate at a Applebees than this place. The twice baked potato was probably taken out if a box to " cook" it. The cream of crab was only good if you have never been outside if PA. The chicken had the consistency of a leather boot and was hands down the driest piece of chicken I have ever ate or tried to eat. My wife had the filet and there was no taste to it even though it was cooked pretty good. She said she can get a better steak for less at Texas Roadhouse (which is awsome). Finally I felt it was very over priced considering the poor and just down right cheap ingredients they use. The steak or chicken Chesapeake meals are just awful. Sorry tavern no 2nd chance here.

I've been here several times and don't understand why this restaurant is so popular. Don't get me wrong, it is ok for a larger party (6+). I would never come here on a "date night" with my wife unless we were sitting in the bar, having a burger, and drinking beer. The main dining room food is just ok for me. It's not exactly what I would call fine dining. On Sundays, they offer a reasonably-priced, all-inclusive meal. You get a soup, salad, entree, and dessert. Most of these are $21.99, while some are $24.99. Either way, it is a fairly good deal. I can't say I've ever had a bad meal here. On the flip side, I can't say I've ever had a great meal either. During our last visit, I was with my wife and 4 members of her family. I ordered the all-inclusive steak bistro. This is a thin steak, served on a bed of mashed potatoes with gravy. The steak was overdone but the potatoes and gravy were fine. It should be a good indication that the steak is not going to be good when they don't ask you for your preferred temperature. My wife had the haddock with roasted red pepper sauce. She liked it. I admit it did look good. My mother-in-law and grandmother-in-law both had crab cakes. They seem to enjoy them, they order them every time. My father-in-law had a spinach salad and shrimp cocktail. He said it was good. I find it hard to believe that any restaurant could make a significantly distinctive shrimp cocktail. Several of us had the cream of crab soup. It is good and is one of their specialties. Be warned, it is VERY RICH and the sherry they give you on the side makes it richer (the carafe of sherry is nice though). My wife and mother-in-law had the cordial parfaits, one with Bailey's and the other with Chambord. They seemed to enjoy them. My wife said hers was ok, nothing special. During our last visit, the waitress was terrible. I think it was a combination of not being properly trained and the fact that she was just a bad waitress. It is a shame that most restaurants don't take the time or effort to train their staff on the proper serving of wine. For me, if you have wine on the menu, you should know how to serve it. I only come here because my in-laws, especially my grandmother-in-law, seem to enjoy it. If it weren't for them, I wouldn't come here.

INCREDIBLY downhill since Chef Dwayne left. The food is marginal, and uncreative, and the service staff is WAY past their shelf life. This is the "new" Roosevelt Tavern? Dismal. The wait staff don't know anything about the food and drinks they are serving. The decor is depressing banquet hall. The food is over-priced and really cut rate. They tout the fact that they are farm-to-table fresh, but the turkey burger I had was a frozen pattie and the french fries were Sysco. The salad I got was a jumbo bowl of greens, which were fresh, and little else. It was barely dressed. This place was way over-priced for barely mediocre food. Save your pennies and go elsewhere.

8/11/12 $86 for lunch - ouch! We used to frequently eat at Roosvelt Tavern prior to the former owners selling the restaurant in 2011. This was our first experience with the new ownership. We saw the lobster dinner advertised and decided to try it. When I called t make a lunch reservation, the owner wanted me to leave my credit card as a deposit for the lobster, saying he had to special order them.. I declined giving my credit card number, but was alble to make a reservation. We started with a bowl of what we thought was the orignal great cream of crab soup that we used to get. It was thin, watery and not filled with crab, as it used to be. At $8.25 a bowl it was a dissapointment. The lobster dinner consisted of a 1 1/4 lb lobster, with a small ramekin of cold slaw and a tiny ear of immature, white corn. The lobster was steamed, but not properly served. The claws were not cracked, nor was the tail membrane cut. it was a soupy mess of water. The cold slaw was tired looking and warm. We didn't dare eat it. The tiny corn was tasty. The soup, two sodas and lobster ( no salad, no desserts, no coffee) came to over $86 with the tip. Last week we bought a voucher from "Double Take Deals, and asked the waitress if we could use it. She said sure, but came back 10 minutes later and said the owner refused to accept it because the lobster (slaw and tiny ear of corn) @ $24.99 was considered a promotion. But she said don't worry, you can come back another time and use it on anything. I suspect that the new owner is one of the those people who signs up for promotions like "Double Take Deals" and then has regrets and refuses to honor it. We didn't enjoy the experience, which ended up being very overpriced.

Okay first off-This place is $20 and up per plate...I only was able to go because a vendor from my fiance's work invited him, and I tagged along.(I'm never one to pass up a free meal) The atmosphere was quite nice for being "in the city." I loved the stainded glass hanging light fixtures. (seriously considered stealing one) There was live music playing in the bar area and some kind of light insturmental streaming in the dining room. The server we had was very friendly and did not mess up anything at our table of 16. Now for the best part...the food! I had cream of crab soup for an appetizer-DELISH! It was a thicker consistancey than I ever had before, but it was the tastiest by far. Some of the other guests had shirmp cocktail, and they seemed equally satisfied by the "mmmmhhhss" coming out of their mouth between bites. I also had a garden salad which was...just a normal salad. However my fiance had a spinach salad with blueberry pomegranate dressing! My main course was lobster-crabcakes and a baked potato. Jeff got Chilean Seabass. I was served two cakes and had to give Jeff one of them because that soup had really filled me up. It was sooo good. I honestly think the only thing that would have made it better is if they served those cheddar-bay biscuits that Red Lobster has. We did not get desert-sadly. Someone got a triple lemon cake and raved about it. I'm not a big fan of lemons. Others had peanut butter pie and ice cream sundaes.

My husband and I spent Valentine's evening here and we were somewhat skeptical since we had to bring our 22 month old , cause we didn't want to impose on any of our friends for a babysitter. We. Also had to push our reservation back to 7pm cause the 630 slot was already taken which worried us even more since our daughters wind down time is about 8-830ish and the description of the business noted that the restaurant was not good for children. Sigh...... of relief we really enjoyed the atmosphere, food and hospitality. For the last few years we were dining at another upscale restaurant in the area which will remain nameless....in comparison Roosevelt Tavern offered larger servings for the price, and more space (didn't have to pull my chair out and bump other patrons) not to mention the quality of the food was really good. Oh and when the clock struck 830pm our daughter became a little antsy in her pantsy and the entire staff including our server were very refreshing......Kudos to Roosevelt Tavern!!!
