Had dinner here recently. The place looks great. I thought the service was OUTSTANDING. It was a weeknight and it wasn't very busy, but we were greeted with a smile by all of the staff. Our waiter was helpful and attentive. The food was fine, but nothing special. Portions were large. Crab cake was average, taste-wise, a bit heavy on the mayo and kind of killed the taste of the crab. Strip steak was not very enjoyable. Everything was just kind of bland. Overall, not a bad experience. There are much less appetizing spots to dine in York, PA.

I'd love to give a good review to Paddock! I hadn't been here since high school when it was more or less a dive bar and I was excited to see the upgrades to the menu. Unfortunately, the service from the dive bar days is about the same or perhaps worse. Upon being seated, I discovered from the server that we were going to be refused drink service on the manager's orders. "That's pretty odd!" I thought, as neither myself nor my girlfriend had been drinking this evening. Turns out that the manager thought my girlfriend, who is visually impaired, was intoxicated as she observed her walking with my support. The waitress, who timidly noted that she would not be serving us alcohol, called over the manager on duty who did functionally nothing to remedy the situation. She did not apologize directly to my girlfriend, for instance. She noted last night's St Patrick's Day celebration as justification for her decision, as though the mistakes of a previous evening somehow justify pretty egregious errors in moral judgement today. I'd like it if this manager were relieved of her position. But even more I hope that the manager goes to bed tonight and on future nights fully, brutally, entirely aware of how terrible she is as a person. I write this review with the utmost regret; I had sincerely hoped the restaurant improved.

Was here a few weeks ago with friends who are hard to please. Everyone in our party was very happy with their meals and I know we will be back again!

One of the worst managed restaurants I've ever visited. Arrived 5 minutes before our reservation, 35 minutes later still waiting for a table. Asked three times and were told "just a couple of minutes". Then when we tell them we're leaving NOW they've going to get us seated right away - sorry too late. Owner follows us to the parking lot to argue with us and tell us all those seated while we waited had reservations ahead of us. Fine let them wait 35 minutes for a reserved table, I'll go to any one of a number of better restaurants in the area that actually take and HONOR reservations.

This is a one star only; because you can't give negatives. Food was outstanding; but, getting it is very difficult. Getting someone to even recognize you unless you are a " regular" is difficult. The poor service does not outweigh the good food. Do yourself a favor and go to the White Rose instead.

If you have not eaten here lately, you are missing an excellent meal. Great food, and very professional staff. One of our favorite local restaurants.

My wife and I enjoyed a Sunday evening dinner at the Paddock recently and again were not disappointed. We mostly go to the Paddock for lunch but do occasionally eat dinner there and it is always spot on. We both enjoyed specials, mine was a New Orleans Gumbo style pasta entree and it was fantastic! The only down side was the portion was so much I felt like I barely ate 1/2 of it. Oh well, lunch leftovers for me. The dinner had a base cream type of sauce with lots of cork screw type of pasta. Within the pasta was grilled chicken and andouille sausage. On top of that was a tomato based sauce with 4 large shrimp. Don't let the two types of sauce on this meal fool you, it was fantastic. Loaded with flavor. Enjoyed an Edmund Fitzgerald porter with my meal. The Paddock is definitely on our short list. This is not you typical bar or pub. They churn out some higher end food that is well worth going for.

First visit after the renovation. The menu is extensive and has some delicious sounding dishes. We ordered a selection of appetizers. The food was delicious and the service was good. The Thai Chili Wings are amazing!!!

What a surprise!!!! Visited for the first time today. The previous pictures does this resturant no justice! The decor has been total revamped to a modern fresh atmosphere. Gone are the fisherman's plates replaced by modern wear. The fair is seafood with steaks pan seared. The resturant was packed. Like a well kept secret, with the patrons dressed casual sheek. Service was outstanding. Friendly and attentive. But the star was the food! The seafood was outstanding fresh and tasty. I'm from Maryland and I've been very hard on the subpar seafood a lot of pa resturants pass off as authentic Maryland seafood....but this restaurant exceeds expectations. It is not a gastric but rather a culinary experience! Well welcome and refreshing change.

My husband and I love this place! I recently took my mother here for lunch. I immediately encouraged the stuffed portobello as an app. being from Maryland, this is the best crab cake I have found in York. My mother was very impressed with the food and atmosphere. The menu is full of choices for everyone. The prices are comparable to the food. The atmosphere is classy, airy & comfortable. I recommend the patio seating at sunset, it's very enjoyable when not too hot and sunny. We will keep going back to the Paddock. It is everything I enjoy about going out to eat.

I simply love this place. I don't know how, but they have some of the best seafood around. Always cooked to perfection. I have had, and absolutely loved, the chicken Chesapeake pasta, the shrimp and crab pasta, the trifecta, the bread bowl crab dip, and the scallops. To dine here and not order seafood of some sort is cheating yourself. The only thing I didn't like EVER was a twice baked potato side dish that seemed unusually bland. The service is always superb. You might want to make reservations on Fridays and Saturdays due to the limited number of tables. And you can't go wrong with horse themes ;-) I honestly always avoided this place because I grew up in York and had the impression that it was a dump, but apparently a major change happened in the past few years. Now they even have a nice deck for the summer months! I just love this place. Did I say that yet?

We ended up here because my MIL was raving about the onion rings.... She was right - they were good - not greasy. We had salads also. Big and very fresh. Great service. Nice atmosphere - very updated - we will be back.

First time ever here. Came for lunch. Wife had Philly cheesesteak on a pretzel roll and I had the chicken cordon blue sandwich. Sandwiches were great, fries were great. Will definitely come back to try dinner and would definitely come back for lunch also.

What this place lacks in a wine list it makes up for in food quality and options. Lots of seafood choices. This place is busy all the time, so you MUST have a reservation or they will turn you away- no waiting around here. Pricey ($60/person), but well worth it.
(5)Chawna G.
This is by far my favorite restaurant in York. Whenever we have out of town guests that one some really good seafood we bring them here. The crab cakes are a must order and the portions are really great. Even the kids meal aren't small in a portion size. I've ordered so many things that I can't even recommend one specifically. The atmosphere is very upscale even though the dress code is not. When you're here it's really hard to believe that you're on a busy street. The scallops are also a must have. They are cooked very well do not taste rubbery like some restaurants. And the drinks are made very well with enough alcohol and enough taste. Overall the price is very reasonable and I will recommend this restaurant a hundred times to anyone who asks.
(5)Ben P.
Caution! When ordering a salad, the menu offers to add a cup of soup for $2.95 or$3.95 for a bowl or crock of onion soup. So I ordered a cup of the oyster stew. When the bill came, the soup was $6.95. The explanation was the add on was "only for the soup of the day." The owner John acknowledged the error but refused to refund the difference. Such a shame that a restauranteur will loose business over his own error. We are not going back.

We are new to the area a stopped by on a whim. Excellent seafood! I had the Mahi Mahi over fried bananas and my wife had their Seafood Trifecta. We will definitely visit again. Next time we will make a reservation. They have a small dining room so a reservation is must on a Friday night. Without a reservation we were seated on the patio. It was a nice night and the waiter made it a pleasant experience. Jeff was extremely knowledge about the menu and ingredients.

The Paddock is the best restaurant I have eaten at in York! Best filet and crab cake I have ever had! I highly recommend this restaurant. Wonderful atmosphere and music, great service as well.
(5)Devon V.
Went for the first time the other night. Drinks & appetizers with some friends on the deck - fabulous! Heads up though if you ever go in with kids - 6.45 for a kids meal and yes just your typical kids meal if Mac n cheese, grilled cheese, burger...etc. NO WAY. 4 stars because what I had was great but def not a regular go to place for me.
(4)Richard L.
We eat out in the york area quite often, i would rate this establishment as avg. Nothing to brag about ... french onion soup was nice, draft beer is good. But $27 for an 8 oz filet. Really? There are better eateries in the area.

The Paddock....you won us over. The Paddock lived up to the reviews here on Yelp and we were very pleased during our evening out for dinner. Being transplants from the Northeast and also from Baltimore, we know seafood and we have found that York, PA was severely lacking in good East Coast-American-style seafood places. We have tried numerous restaurants only to be left disappointed each time. We did not hold out much hope for The Paddock, even more so when we saw the outside (it looked old Victorian), but we were quite happy with the modern decor and full bar when we entered. I immediately give the service and staff 5 stars, as everyone was friendly and made certain that we were well taken care of. The servers had smiles all night. Our appetizers, sides, and entrees were aesthetically appealing and absolutely delicious. I loved that no bread was forced on us as soon as we sat down. The shrimp and scallops were cooked to perfection and although I prefer my mussels with a lot more butter and wine, I found that the brine-taste of the mussels appetizer is quite unique to this place. It was the first I've had them this way and I didn't hate it. My steak was perfect! Tender, juicy, and very little fat. I could live without the sweet "au jus" pool that it was sitting in, as that is just my preference. I am not a steak sauce gal. The steak could have come 'naked' and it would have been loved the same. Hands down, one of the best Caesar salads I've had in a while. The menu is quite extensive and it was a long time before we decided on what to order as we felt that would would miss out on something if we didn't order it all. I give The Paddock four stars (and wish they had a wine list), but that's good! I typically only give 5 Stars, when I have eaten at a place at least 3-5 times with no slip-ups, so my 4-Star rating is very high. I am definitely going to be entertaining here and bringing my business clientele to this place. Well-done Paddock, well done!

My husband and I love the Paddock. Normally when we go, we have appetizers and drinks. The staff here is awesome and super friendly. The pulled pork fries are excellent! It's a great place to come to with friends.
(5)Jennifer S.
The patio was nice...unfortunately, I was not impressed with the food. The bacon wrapped scallops appetizer was pathetic, overcooked, and overpriced. My filet was overcooked (twice). I ordered it medium and it came out well done. When I sent it back, it came back medium well/well. If you can't cook steaks to the temperatures ordered, please take them off your menu. I will not be coming back here.

Buddy and I were in town for a golf trip and this place was recommended by hotel staff as we were looking for a casual but non-chain place to eat. From the outside it looked like an older place but were pleasantly surprised once we walked in. Place looked very differently from the inside, very new and stylish and the service was excellent. The owner and his wife greeted us and although the place was crowed, they prepared a separate table just for us. The food was ver good as I had a skillet meat (filet mignon, pork chop and chicken and my friend had the season medley. The service was excellent . We would highly recommend this place if you are looking for a casual friendly place to have a meal. Prices were reasonable and the staff made us feel at home like part of the local family.

This dining establishment has been an institution in the York area since before I was born 63 years ago. Having not been there since the 70's, I was very pleasantly surprised to see that it is now up to date, comfortable, inviting, and the food is better than ever. We had clams, crab cakes, salad, cooked veggies, cheddar & garlic mashed potatoes, scallops and key lime & peanut butter pies. Oh yes, and we all shared medium size onion rings. Everything surpassed our expectations, and we are anxious to repeat the experience. Staff performed to perfection. We did some meal splitting with the generous portions, so we ended with full stomachs and clean plates. So good to see the Paddock back at its peak. Waiter mentioned it would be good idea to reserve a table on weekends.

Had dinner there last night. You can ignore the reviews of the Paddock that are older than 2012; I'm from Lancaster so I'm not sure exactly when the Paddock acquired its new management and renovations (including a patio!), but I think the new folks have only been at work about a year and this was the first time we've tried it under their management. (We had eaten there in its older incarnation and it was just fine: typical but decent bar food. The new version is a completely different affair, though!) We had dinner last night and EVERYTHING was good. Despite being a Friday night, service was top-notch and very friendly (but not intrusive). Host was gracious and efficient. And the food was excellent and came right on schedule: Betsy had pasta with shrimp in a lite cream sauce and I had the combo of filet and crab cake. All excellent. The filet was especially tender and cooked just right. The crab cakes are no-filler, with a lite creamy binding, and are broiled. Mixed drinks were great, onion rings appetizer was also great (beware: they're 'seasoned' so some might think a touch on the salty side -- fine by me :-) -- and the large is LARGE: enough for three or four average diners). We first sat inside but since the weather was beautiful, we asked the host if we could move out to the patio and he gladly obliged us. A great experience all around and well worth another drive from Lancaster. Could be five stars but for now four because I don't like to throw around my coveted five-star rating until we've had three great meals at a place ;-)

Much improved from years' past. It is a strange dining area and actually pretty small but they did a nice job with their renovations. I am usually there for a business lunch and food has been pretty good

Do you want a smoke with your beer & shot? The Paddock bar is the place for you. It's nothing fancy, but the service is good and the regulars can be entertaining. Whenever I have dinner at the Paddock it's only a grilled cheese, so I can't comment on the food.
(3)Rick W.
The Paddock is one of those restaurants that isn't out of this world but always delivers good quality food for the money. There are three main meals I aways get here. 1) The soft shell crab platter, simple but the best I have found in the York area, 2) Liver with both bacon and onions, again simple but the best I have found, and 3) Their steaks, haven't had a bad one yet. Their drink prices are cheap and they make some killer onion rings. The decor is nothing fancy and if you sit in the bar you will go home smelling like an ash tray, opt for the nonsmoking section. The Paddock is a good fall back restaurant when I'm not in the mood to try something new or I want some good ole' stick to your ribs type food.

First time in yesterday and was pleasantly surprised. Good food and great service. Will definitely make it a place to go often.

This is the first time I've been here since the remodel. They have done a really nice job with the remodel and opened it all up. Years ago the dinning room was seperated from the bar by a glass door. I always hated that but totally understood it because they allowed smoking at the bar back then. Glad they went totally smoke free! We decided to meet up here for a business dinner tonight. I will say that I did read a few reviews prior but didn't let them sway my decision on giving them a try. I was really hoping that we were going to have a good experience and as it turns out for the most part we did. The waitress was very nice and attentive and thetiming for our meals was spot on. I had the Seafood Diablo. It was good and just the right amount of spice, however they left the tails on the shrimp. I understand that this is the nature of this type of dish just to have to fish the shrimp out of the noodles and sause and then tear off the tail shell was not what I had in mind. Other than that I really enjoyed everything. I will definately be back.

The worst restaurant I've ever eaten at. Horrible service, horrible food, do not eat here!! Our dinner took an hour and a half to arrive at our table. I wouldn't give any stars, but i have to, it won't let me leave it blank.

newly remodeled restaurant is very nice. the food however, needs more practice or better cook. 4 of us ordered different items and they all were not good. french fries are good, the onion rings are not like they used to be. we did not like them at all, batter was yuk! tasted like flour. 2 of us were sick later that night. my tenderloin was good and soft to cut, but had no taste. they must pan fry their steaks, that ribeye was tough. wings look awesome but there again, didnt taste.cole slaw was good. not sure i'd try here again...sorry!

I'll give it two stars....went here one time and it was just okay....nothing really special to make me want to go back...
