Great sushi. Love the Japanese style fried rice and udon noodles. Good service as well.

I absolutely love hibachi! This is the place to go if you'd like some fillet Mignon and shrimp! They also do carry out as well. I've had their sushi and it's magnificent! I eat there one a week because it's so delicious.

Zen Mitsuru has recently re-opened in the Queensgate shopping center. Its new location is much larger than its previous home next to the movie theatres. It now boasts a large grill where all manner of meats and seafood can be cooked to order. As in the past, the quality and freshness of their sushi will rival that of good sushi establishments in major metropolitan areas. The key to this of course is its owener Aaron Chan. His extensive experience with sushi and his passion to make sure that he serves nothing but the freshest ingredient make this a favorite of many local sushi lovers. You can bring your own adult beverage of choice.

My husband and I ate here on a Saturday evening. We are big eaters, and we love sushi. We ordered 7 rolls (3 cooked rolls and 4 raw rolls) plus 2 appetizers: the Spicy Crispy Tuna Salad and the Umami Mussels. The service and decor are very nice. We were greeted and seated right away. A server immediately brought water, and since we had a 6-pk of beer, and a bottle of wine with us, another server brought a wine key and a bottle opener, and opened the wine for us. We were not offered an ice bucket or to have our beer refrigerated, which was a little strange, but we didn't ask either, and since we are fast drinkers, it was not an issue. The appetizers came out right away (there were about 6-8 other tables occupied) and when we were done the dishes were cleared away promptly. The other food came out almost immediately after we finished the appetizers. Everything was DELICIOUS! All the raw fish was fresh and melt- in- your- mouth, and the cooked items were hot and interesting. Usually we are fighting over the last pieces, but the portions were fairly large, and we actually had to work to stuff down the last of it. =) We both felt we could've ordered 2 less rolls and been full. I would definitely recommend this place for a casual night out. It is not ritzy or fancy though, and does not have alot of ambience. It is a little too brightly lit, and the tables and chairs are not cushy and cozy. A managerial-type woman checked on us 2 times, and she is the one who recommended the Umami Mussels. I am not sure who our server was, since several people waited on us throughout the meal. All the staff we encountered were polite and professional. Our bill, for 7 rolls and 2 appetizers was $80, not including tip, but again, we ordered too much food and could easily have spent $60 and had a great meal. That is not bad for a fresh delicious sushi dinner!

We visited the new Mitsuru today, passing through York on our way home from Gettysburg. We were really in the mood for some good sushi, so I looked up local sushi restaurants near York, PA on my iPhone. I read reviews of several different restaurants in the area, and noticed a lot of positive comments about a sushi chef named Aaron. We were excited to read that he recently opened a new restaurant, and decided to try it. Upon walking into Mitsuru, it greets the eye as most Japanese restaurants do- simple in design with traditional decor strategically placed around. Nothing impressive or fancy. But the food- wow! My boyfriend and I consider ourselves to be sushi snobs- very picky about our fish, the sauces, down to the vinegar used in the rice. Looking at the menu, we were encouraged- they offer a lot of selections that we haven't seen on other sushi menus. We had like seven of the maki. The fish was very fresh; the combinations wonderful. Each bite was a treat for the palate. We were very impressed by the food at Mitsuru. We wish they had a location closer to our home- we would definitely go back.

The best sushi in York. The food is excellent, the staff friendly and attentive. Say hi to Aaron (head chef and owner)!

Really great little place in the middle of a strip mall. Clean, great service, love the food. AMAZING hot and sour soup! Hubby gets sushi and really likes it, I usually go for Chinese food of some sort. There is a very tall cook that always walks around making sure everything is ok I would guess he's the owner? Will continue to go back and recommend to anyone looking for good Asian food.

Only place we go in York for sushi! Great sushi and I love the green tea. Wouldn't go anywhere else in York Co. for sushi. Casual and well priced.

Worst ever! Terrible service, food was all messed up, took an hour to get food and it was awful when we did get it! Very rude people too when we complained. Go anywhere else!

Let me start off by saying there's not much to eat around York. So I'm going to help by doing a service and yelping the only places worth eating around here. The sushi here is hit or miss. I guess that's what to be expected in the middle of nowhere Central Pennsylvania. The Chinese food is actually pretty good. Hot and sour soup is among the best I've ever had, and the bento boxes, which I guess is Japanese is quite the value with all that you get. They do serve hibachi here. It's not the kind that they cook right front of you, even though it's priced that way, but it is pretty good. The four stars is a little bit skewed because of the lack of quality food in York, but if you're in town this place is definitely worth checking out.

What you are getting from this restaurant is overpriced greasy Chinese food. Not worth it.

Business took my husband and I through York recently and I'd have to say the dining options in York leave a great deal to be desired. I spied a place that said "hibachi" and that of course quickly followed a turn into the parking lot for supper. There are no hibachi tables, its cooked in the kitchen. That is a huge pet peeve of mine - if you advertise hibachi have the decency to have the tables. Americans like us love those silly hibachi tables:) Here's my review! Atmosphere: strip mall, small type eatery, very tightly packed tables. Not any real atmosphere but clean and smelled fabulous. We were so hungry a pack of wild dogs could not have driven us away that night, a Friday about 7pm. Service: Pretty good. No real complaints except the server seemed very rushed and quite honestly I got the impression she wanted us to hurry. I really hate that. I am paying so don't rush me! Food: Had cooked crab rolls to start with wrapped in cucumber strips instead of rice which was new for us. Obviously we are not sushi experts but this was fresh and tasty. My husband raved about the super hot wasabi. He loves having his mind blown by hot wasabi and this one actually made him break out in a sweat and he got slightly shakey LOL. I had the hibachi scallops and vegetables, "veggies" on the menu lol. Salad had "ginger" dressing but tasted just like russian or a light french dressing and could detect no ginger in it. Substituted brown rice for white which cost extra but was worth it. I wish more asian places had brown rice available. My scallops were PER FECT and the vegetables were well done, nice variety and still slightly crunchy. My husband got the hibachi shrimp and they were over cooked so chewy which is a huge no-no for hibachi. I had hot sake which was not quite hot enough but tasty and the wine was terrible. Only one choice per type, cabernet, etc which is typical of asian places but honestly if you only have ONE brand then choose a not so crappy one eh? Over priced, inconsistent and rushed dinner. That deserves 3 stars.

My experiences with Japanese food in York have ranged from absolutely AMAZING to TERRIBLE...Mitsuru is definitely closer to the amazing end, but still only gets 3 stars. The location seems nice and clean, in a very safe strip mall part of South York. The staff was friendly and efficient all three times I have been there. The food selection is actually pretty decent, but the actual food is sub-par. My last visit I ordered the sushi deluxe, a plate of assorted raw fish. It was bland and flavorless without any artistic presentation. When I go out for sushi i expect not only a flavorful experience, but one with beauty and design as well.

First time here. Got the Bento Box. General Tso's was excellent. Hot and Sour soup was also excellent. Sushi was very average, as was the egg roll ... Kind of chewy. But I'd come back here for the Hot and Sour soup and straight Chinese food again.

Located in a strip mall, the decor inside definitely outshines what you see on the exterior. Prices are reasonable in my estimation. I ordered one of the bento boxes and was disappointed when it was first placed in front of me. However, I was pleasantly full by the time I had consumed my meal. They do have Wi-Fi for their customers!

The food is never consistent. Service is slow. And definitely not the best sushi in York. Fujihana would still have to be my favorite.

Good food, nice workers. Very polite and helpful. Love the wide variety of Chinese and Japanese cuisine.

My husband and I like it here. He's Japanese and I'm American. We like it because it's not just sushi. It seems every place that claims it's a Japanese restaurant only has sushi. Japanese food is so much more than that. At Mitsuru you can enjoy Don Buri, Ramen, Soba, yakitori and Bento. We have been here four times, and had the same thing because it's so good (Ten Don Buri and Oyako Don Buri)

Ive eaten here several times and really enjoy their variety of bento boxes and sushi. They are pricey and if they were not located by Frank's Theater probably wouldn't go there. Their biggest drawback is there srvice. Takes forever to have someone take our order. Which we could be solved by not having ther server just haphazardly serving random tables. Everyone should be assigned an area and only serve those in your area.

The service was a little slow and the prices a little higher than others but the sushi was quite good. All in all no complaints.

Back when it was Zen Mitsuru, this was the first sushi place I ever regularly frequented. Honestly, I am a bit of a sushi snob as a result of borrowing my grandmother's credit card every week to go out to eat here. It's definitely one of the best sushi places I have ever encountered to this day; York is lucky to have such a gem. I have only been twice since they remodeled into the Mitsuru-Ya larger setting, but I know that it retained much of the original staff and most of the charm that it had in its smaller locale. Very good fish and excellent hot food as well.

  • N S.

The food is really pretty good, though the prices are high, and every request for modification (i.e. brown rice or extra sauce) will result in an up charge. The Chinese seems a cut above the Japanese (non-sushi). The servers are pleasant.

I love this place. I have eaten here many times and have loved each dish I have ordered. The staff is nice and very attentive. I definitely recommend if you are looking for quality Asian food and a nice, quiet dining experience!

My wife and I have been here twice now and every time we've been here he have enjoyed our meal. The service is good and the wait staff is polite and helpful. I have gotten the Bento box both times I have been here with different choices. The beef with Teriyaki sauce is good. I like that they give the beef the Teriyaki flavor without having to drown it in the sauce. The sushi is fresh and I like their presentation. This place does not have a liquor license so if you want a beer or two, or some wine then you need to bring your own. Check this place out if you are in the area. Thank you for reading my review. This review is based on my personal point of view.

This place is straight up awesome. I go here frequently, sitting at the bar. GF and I get a mix of sashimi with a bottle of Sake. They do a wonderful job with just the right cuts and presentation. Recently I hosted a wine club event with Sushi and Sake. They did an amazing job providing the sushi. Everyone was very impressed and the night was a hit for the wine club (YWS)! Oh, and I would place this above Edo and Umi Sake down in MD, which are very very good. Don't know what Jason B is talking about. Maybe it was a bad night, or he is just from Hanover, because I have never had a bad experience at Mitsurru-Ya. Then again, if there are people out the door, I turn around and come back later.

Friendly service, large portions, and good food. This is a favorite little local place with something for everyone's pickiness. Only downside is that the sushi is a tad expensive for the quality.

I've had some bad experiences at restaurants and this one ranks in the top ten. We decided to eat here, after getting out of a movie on Saturday 12/15/12. We read good reviews, and firgured it was worth a try. We arrived at 6pm, on the nose. We saw that it was crowded, and there were a number of people standing in line to be seated. After a few minutes the hostess took everyone's names. She took our name before people who were in front of us and ignored me when I made mention of it to her. At around 6:25 we got a table (again before people who were in line before us, and ignored again when I mentioned it). The waitress haphazardly threw the menus on the table, and asked us if we knew what we wanted. This was before we had even sat down, and had a chance to look at menus. She seemed annoyed when we asked for a few minutes to get situated and look over the menu. After a couple minutes, she came and took our entire order. Soup appetizers, drinks, Udon Soup, A kids Hibachi meal, and three rolls, and three nagiri sushi (which came in on piece servings, rather than the traditional two piece servings at any other Sushi place ever). The drinks and appetizers came at 6:30. It was 7:45 before we saw our food. We were with our 4 year old, who had not eaten since having some popcorn at the movie. She finished her soup, and it was hard for her to wait an hour for some hibachi chicken. The Udon and chicken came first, and the sushi five minutes later. ONE HOUR FOR FOOD SERVICE. That's not counting time waited for a table. Unacceptable. I understand that it was Saturday night and waiting for tables is pretty common. I don't understand why it should take and restaurant an hour to serve anyone, once they are seated. We had three different people serving our table, and we asked each of them at least twice for a fork and a drink cup. Our Daughter can manipulate chopsticks for bigger things, but smaller pieces of chicken and veggie is still hard for her. Those fell on deaf ears. After watching her try to use chopsticks, and then resort to her fingers, I ended up having to feed her with my chopsticks. The meal in total ended up being close to $80. The food wasn't worth the wait. I'll gladly wait for quality made Sushi, however this washad brown spots, and everything was bland and tasteless. By the end of the epxerience, we were too frustrated and tired to stick around and try to speak to anyone about it. We felt that the lack of personable service, insane wait for foor, and quality versus price, turned what should have been a nice family dinner into a waste of close to $100 dollars. Who likes to waste that kind of money? Not me, that's for sure. Needless to say, we won't be back. We'll stick to a spot in Hanover when we want sushi, and just grab Chipolte or something else cloe to the theater, when we want to eat after a movie.

Went here after reading all the good reviews it has received. The ginger dressing on my $3.00 .1oz salad was just mayo with red food coloring. I couldn't even finish it that's how gross it was. The fried calamari came out very quick but was sloppy. The crispy exterior would fall off everytime I picked up a new piece. The taste was not appetizing either. Ordered three sushi rolls, spicy tuna jalapeno, mango salmon, eel avocado. The salmon mango was just too fishy and smelled odd. The other two rolls were bland and tasteless. The service was fast and friendly. I cannot recommend this place to anyone. Perhaps they were just having a bad day? There are so many good reviews for this place, I don't understand what happened.

Another meatless Friday and I feel a little guilty for eating some amazing food. It was a fairly busy Friday night but my friends and I were seated right away had our drinks fairly quickly even though they do not have ginger ale... and after a fast run to the liquor store in the same parking lot we settled in for a great meal. "The Good" - There was a large selection of rolls ordered including Spicy Tuna, California Roll, Spicy California, Sweet Potato (or Yam in York PA) Roll, Tuna Roll, The one with the York Roll inside of another Roll that I forget its name, but it was good, Shrimp Tempura Roll and some other selections that never made it to my side of the table, but I know something was in the empty space on the plate.. - It was one of those sittings where everything was just good... The Shrimp Tempura and Sweet Potato Roll have a very nice crunch to the Tempura that was a very nice crunchy contrast to the rice. The Spicy Tuna had just enough sesame seeds to add to the taste than overpower it. - The BYOB was a bottle of sake, which they offered to heat up and brought out a few glasses which was cool. - The staff was very polite and professional. The chefs were great and ran an efficient kitchen. - The server that brought out our order was nice enough to go through which rolls were which. - Clean men's room were another good factor. "The Meh" - They had a few servers working but I am not sure if there were assigned sections. You have to grab one when you see one and do not be shy about asking for a refill on the soda. - I am a fan of ginger ale when I have sushi, for some reason it makes it taste better, maybe because of the ginger?? Little quirky but its cool I can take it. "The Bad" - Nothing really bad to comment on.

Horrible experience. Called a to-go order beforehand, arrived, was told it was a 20 minute wait. It took 50. Was not happy with the amount or quality of the food, as I've had better. And it is overpriced. Wait staff ignored us. Should have asked for a refund. the icing on the cake was finding out they forgot two of my rolls. I'm never going there again

Mitsuru is one of two places in York that I go to for sushi. The menu has been expanded with some delightful additions. For example try the red curry fried rice. This and a tuna/avacado role might be the perfect lunch + some green tea. Ginger rice was a little more subtle than the red curry rice - still delicious. The red curry rice became an instant favorite for me. We had a number of sushi rolls and tuna tataki. All were delicious and melted in the mouth. Service was excellent. The only thing we found at all lackluster was the wonton soup. Not that it was bad, just compared to the rest of the food it stood as ordinary. We sat at the bar and received a few extra pieces of tataki - it being near closing time. One thing we did miss a little was the extremely cozy nature of the old Mitsuru. That is not to say the new one is without charm. But when you are packed in like sardines, as it was in the old spot, you can't help but get Ito conversations with the people sitting inches away from you. I will miss that. Hopefully, Mitsuru's food will draw in large enough crowds to overfill the new location and keep the tradition of conversations going. Mitsuru is back!!! 4.5 stars

Its open! Its open! Over a year n waiting Zen Mitsuru is back. This is its new location and thought it was only fair to add it as a new review. When you first walk in to the new Mitsuru is SUCH A CHANGE. Larger space, lovely decor with framed photos, warm tones and lighting. Hold about 70 some diners with an open style kitchen counter overlooking the dining room. For the sushi I had. tasty spicy rolls which is more of a hot pepper than a mayo sauce, fresh fish and a variety of specials. Their lunch menu is a bit pricer than other places (about a dollar more) and have hibachi, bento, rice dishes and noodle soups. So far so good, I had the sushi lunch combo rolls, really nice fish and tightly rolled sushi. Looking forward to some hibachi soon.

Not bad overall. Clean. I only had the Sushi and it was good. My wife was ecstatic with her entree. Overall it was ok. I've had better Sushi but I've also had worse.
