Love the update to their facility. They now have their liquor. Sushi is fresh with a great variety.

Their bento boxes are so good and the best deal on the menu. You get Miso soup and a salad when you order them. I am always seated right away and the staff is always friendly and attentive.

Closed for remodel. The guy said maybe another 2 weeks so thats 3rd week of dec 2014. Oh well maybe next time in york ill get to try it. Ps its masa bistro now

My last review was not so positive, but this place has really improved over the last year. All staff now wait on every table, so you're never waiting for your server to return. Great idea! They now have drink specials with some fantastic cocktails. the sushi chefs have started adding their own twist on their chef specials. I love returning here!

Went their Saturday night after remodel, went in looks great bar is cool . Sat down in back in a booth we ordered some sushi and dumplings for apps . Was going to order beer but saw ware they store the beer, in the old entrance . It is a glassed in room outside of the building no fridge so your beer temp is whatever it is outside , I'll pass waited 45 min to get our rolls waitress never came back to see how we were or to fill our water sushi was good but not worth the wait and terrible service .

We have always loved Masa and now that their renovations are done we were glad to return! It's so nice inside and food is still great! Love the lunch box specials.

From a Sushi Addict that lives in the holy grail sushi of SoCal...I love Masa. Great selection and fresh fish,,,, the sashimi tuna was very solid. The oolong tea drink was a refreshing change and the presentation was very great. Every time i come to York, PA I get my sushi fix at Masa. It resonably price as well with rolls being between 6 and 12 average around 8. Heard the chicken is rocking too

If you're in need of a little sushi happiness after dealing with the horrors of I-83, this is a great little place. For $26 I had: tuna & hamachi nigiri (2pcs per order) and two rolls: spicy blue crab (6 pcs) & something inferno (at least 9 pcs). The rice was warm & fragrant. The inferno roll was very large, very beautiful, and tasty, but I would prefer regular to smoked salmon in the combination. All in all, the sushi exceeded anything I've eaten in the DC area. Service was adequate & unobtrusive. Next time I'm passing, though, I'll stop by for some of the chef's specials that my full stomach couldn't accommodate.

Best sushi (at the moment) in York. I tried a roll with mango on top and it has now become my summertime favorite. Great little find in west york. The interior is pleasant, with booth seating, good serive and they always seem to be busy.

Re-purposing at it;s finest. Take a bank, turn it into a Japanese restaurant. If only the rest of the banks would take the hint, we wouldn't have this economy problem. Speaking of economy, the rolls and sushi were a little on the pricey side. $5 average per 2 piece sushi and 8 dollar average per roll. They had some unique rolls, red roof, waggy dog, etc. Everything was good and fresh. In the midst of a heatwave Masa gets a bonus for havine the ac working and extra units to keep the place cool. york, how have you hidden this place from me?
(4)Amands V.
Looks can be deceiving, however that works in Masa's favor. The Place doesn't look like anything special from the outside, but the sushi is by far the best around. I live in Lancaster and I drive here many times a year for the freshest, most unique sushi rolls around. I am sort of a sushi snob, so I really love the different ingredients they use and it's priced really reasonably. I recommend it to everyone. I love the fact that it's BYOB.

i like this place. it's kind of tucked away in an odd, inconspicious location. matter of fact, it looks like it was quickly converted (based on the outside) from a bank! it has a nice little interior that makes the place feel cozy. a few oversized booths give for an extra feeling of privacy. the place is a little on the pricey side. the food was very delicious, fresh and flavorful. the tempura was was crispy with a hint of sweetness. the shrimp was very prominent... didnt skimp at all. the gyoza was nice and delicate in texture with a great flavor! a little too much garlic for me in the dipping sauce, but such a minor point. and the dessert... it looked amazing and was just a wonderful end to the meal. i think this is a great place to retreat from the big crowds. could definitely see myself dining here if i had to go it alone. overall i think it's a nice hidden gem. probably doesnt get as much action because of its location, but good food. a nice dining establishment.

A good sushi restaurant in York! They have the standard Japanese/Sushi menu selections. I personally go for the regular sushi meal (enough food for me). However the entree box or lunch box specials are a lot of food at a great price. However, writing this review put me in one of those dilemmas; I don't want word to get out and have this place crowded but I also want them to succeed and stay around. Ultimately I wrote the review. I want this place to prosper.

I don't know. Maybe I've been spoiled in my life when it comes to sushi and have high expectations. The waiter's recommendation turned out to be a fish stick (of the frozen microwavable variety) rolled into some rice and sold to us as a $5 roll. My companion gave them the benefit of the doubt and suggested that perhaps they had fried the fish themselves in the kitchen, that they were just not very good at it. I grew up in the New York City public school system, I know what frozen fish sticks look and taste like, they were for lunch every other week. I understand its a small place and they need to scrimp because high grade fish is very expensive. But fish sticks? That's calculated deception. Makes you wonder what other shortcuts they took. As an aside, I wonder if you can actually fry this particular frozen food to thaw it out because wouldn't the skin would get wet and fall apart? It pretty much MUST be microwaved.

I am so happy to have found this place. Living in the west end of York, finding a really good place to eat (read: NOT a chain restaurant) is like finding the next headliner for the Met on Star Search. But thanks to the wonderful chefs at Masa, I no longer feel like I am living in a gastronomic wasteland. George and I decided to treat ourselves to a meal out, but we had to be in close proximity to the gym, since that was our next stop. Another important consideration, since we were shortly going to be voluntarily engaged in masochistic exercises (otherwise known as "working out"), was the type and volume of food we would consume. If you know anything about the "cuisine" of York County, you know it's anything but light and delicate. So what to do? Go Asian! Masa is located in an unprepossessing brick building, sharing space with a mortgage company. (Lucky them, right next door!) Upon entering, the glare of the sun and noise of Route 30 are erased; the ambiance is cool, calming, and the perfect prelude to an artful repast. My only complaint, atmosphere-wise, is their choice of music - some generic, Kenny G-type "music" grated on me throughout our meal. I would have appreciated either some soft classical music or something even more appropriate, like Japanese music! This accounts for the 4 starts instead of 5. Strictly rating the food, I give Masa 5 stars. Their menu is more extensive and creative than the other sushi restaurants in the area. Here is a link to the menu: dineindie.com/custom_fil… The menu on site is more detailed and descriptive, and helpful to those who may be sushi virgins. "Alright, already!" I can hear you saying. "So what did you eat?" Calm down, dear reader - that is not a Zen-like attitude! I started out with a shredded seaweed and crab salad with creamy wasabi dressing, which thankfully, was drizzled and delicate. One thing I can't stand is salad that's drowning in dressing. George had the house salad, which had a generous helping of ginger in the dressing. We then split an appetizer of shrimp shumai. These dumplings were encased in perfectly pleated pillows of a delicate dough, and were moist, succulent and, how do I put this... just plain damn good. We each then got a roll. I can't remember the name of what George got but I had something called "Tropical Inferno" (see previous comment about "creative"). Eight pieces of jade green rolls were topped with the most dazzlingly red, tiny roe and were sitting on a lacy design of spicy mayonaisse to make an aesthetically beautiful palette on the plate. Ah, heaven. The delicacy of the salmon! The smooth seduction of avocado! The delicate pop of ruby roe! Each mouthful brought me to another plane of culinary ecstasy. Unhappily, our obligation to continue on to the gym returned me - reluctantly - to reality. (Not to mention that I couldn't indulge in an order of ginger ice cream.) The waiter brought us the bill, which only came to $35. Cheap, for a little slice of paradise. I floated through the door, back to our car, slightly blinded by the brilliance of the setting sun, but not completely disconsolate. I was already planning my next meal at Masa.

Excellent sushi. Many choices. Lunch specials are very good. Small seating area however. Restrooms could use some work however.
(4)Patrick C.
I have eaten sushi all over the country and to have a place like this in York is awesome! The location is not the best, but the food is fresh, the service is good and the atmosphere is nice and quiet. It is family friendly as well. The price is also very reasonable. I have eaten at high end restaurants where the price is 3 times what it is here, and have seen poorer quality food. I am always impressed with how fresh the ingredients are. If you are not an experienced sushi eater I recommend coming with someone who is, it is not the most rookie friendly restaurant.
(4)David J.
Went with someone from York on Yelp recommendations mainly because she writes great reviews and glad I did. Excellent place. Disappointed that they don't serve booze, but they allow BYOB. So bring a nice Pinot Noir or favorite Sake and have at it. I had the biggest helping of seaweed salad that anyplace ever served, followed by a kimchi based spicy vegetable soup. Not overly spicy, and very flavorful with good amounts of tofu, mushrooms, cabbage, and other veggies. Their sashimi/sushi combo is great. Each raw piece of fish had it's own texture and flavor profile and seemed very fresh. For the non-raw fish/fearful of sushi eaters out there, fear not, they have plenty of great looking bento type boxes and noodle and rice dishes. Something for everyone. The service was attentive and very polite.
(4)Jeff K.
I eat sushi 1 time a week at least. This little gem one the 1st floor of a ugly brick office building will blow you away. Service is always happy, nice, fast and clean. The food is delicious and one of the only places I've been to recently that actually has shredded ginger in their salads. I'm sad to see they are closing for 3 months for renovations but maybe it will give a cool vibe once they have a bar. Fresh everything very happy and full.
(4)Michael B.
Take out service is incredibly slow. The staff actually told me that the people eating at the tables come first. Last time.
(1)Rebecca G.
Masa is a great palce to go for delicious Japanese food. They are moderately priced with huge portions. I recommend the TNT Roll and a bowl of Spicy Vegetable Soup. The staff is very friendly and the establishment appears very clean. Masa allows patrons to BYOB which is very nice. This is definitely a small restaurant that is popular, so there may not always be seating but it is worth the wait.
(4)Scott M.
Ok, yes it's Valentine's day, but unbelievably slow service! Terrific food. Get it together! This should be a go to place, but...
(1)Mike N.
Been stopping by here a long time. With family, and friends. Never had a bad bite to eat and the service is good. Lots of choices to pick from depending how much you feel like spending.
(5)Kenny W.
Very good sushi and sashimi. Fresh, good portion and very good price. The seafood with noodles is not recommended. Seafood was subpar with small tasteless Bay scallops and small shrimp. Sauce was overly salty. BYOB.
(4)Matt N.
My wife and I chose to go to Masa for our Valentine's day meal-we had been here before and had an enjoyable time with friends. The place was not crowded and we were seated immediately. the ambience is relaxed and fits the part of your local sushi place. The menu was pretty varied and we ordered an appetizer of Pork Gyoza which was great with a tangy dipping sauce. We ordered 5 rolls - The tropical eel, White satin, cheesy salmon, shaky dog and spider roll. the rolls looked great when they were served and didn't fail to impress with the flavor either. I think we cleaned that plate off faster than any other sushi meal. I think Masa isn't flashy and the service is good without being obtrusive so you don't notice it as much, but I would go back anytime- very reasonable and good variety especially if you order from the 'Funky Chef' page.
