In August 2015, I had the curry chicken with rice and peas along with plantain. While the chicken and rice an peas were so hot that it made my nose run, the plantains were good. I think that it would be better to make the dishes mild, and give the customer the option to increase the hot spice on the side when they order. I am Jamaican, and my family has never made the food that hot, I would like to try it again only if it's not so hot.

Beware ! They WILL serve you unripe plantain and say they don't pay ripeness any mind. They served me dry rice after i specifically asked for jerk sauce on my rice. All this dry rice ?! Bruh ! Also , the girl who took my call must have been hard of hearing because she forgot to remember my sauce and spelled my name completely wrong... And i spent $30 on a weak a** meal. Screw them.!

We learned of Coconut Breeze when they left a flier on our door, and I was immediately excited to see that they deliver. Up til now, the only places we could get delivery from in our area were pizza joints and crappy Chinese food restaurants. A Jamaican restaurant is a huge step up. We've ordered from them 3 or 4 times now, and each time the food has been delicious. Stew beef (which they only serve on Fridays and Saturdays) is a favorite. We've also tried jerk chicken, curry chicken, and stew chicken and enjoyed them all (although all of them have bones; the stew beef is boneless). I'm no expert on Jamaican cuisine, but everything has been delicious and that's all I care about. The medium size meat orders come with two sides, and we've tried the rice & peas (good but very spicy), white rice, mac and cheese, broccoli, plantains, mashed potatoes, and candied yams. All of the above are very good but we keep coming back to the rice & peas, mashed potatoes (sooo creamy), mac and cheese, and plantains. They also have a number of dishes we've yet to try - fry chicken, a couple different kinds of wings, goat, oxtail, soup, chicken and beef patties, pepper steak, stew peas, cabbage & carrots, and a bunch of different types of seafood. Prices are great and delivery is fast. I had to write this review after the exceptional customer service experience we had last night - after ordering stew chicken and stew beef, we got two orders of stew chicken. I called to let them know, and they were so apologetic (even though I wasn't mad at all - just craving stew beef!) and actually had the owner himself bring over the correct order. He let us keep the additional, wrong order and brought us candied yams to try (I assume they're new because they're not on the menu we have). We were already fans of the delicious food, but thanks to the fantastic customer service this will definitely remain a staple for us!

I love this place. I used to go to West Philly to get Jamaican food. This place is great every time I go. When they first opened there was a wait to get food but now they have it together and I am in and out in no time. I don't live in the area anymore but I still go there when I can, it's worth it.

I placed an online order from Coconut Breeze last night for delivery. I received an email confirmation and a phone call confirming a sauce preference and assured that my food will be on it's way. Shortly after that, my food arrived. Upon delivery, the driver introduced himself to me as Fitzpatrick the owner. He then asked me what I thought of the online system since they had just recently launched it. I appreciated his introduction and inquiry about the system. I have a special place in my heart for owners/bosses who work the front lines whether it be customer service or delivery (or both). As for the food, we ordered the Jerk Chicken with cabbage and rice, and Oxtail with plantains and cornbread. The food overall was good. I especially liked my rice, it had a nice spicy kick to it. Also the plantains were nicely cooked, not too greasy and big plump pieces. I will definitely be ordering from here again. Living in W. Philly/U. City, I"m surrounded by many great ethnic restaurants but the Jamaican/Caribbean scene is a bit lacking, much less one with such good service.

I like that they have a website for the menu and accept credit cards (for a 75 cent surcharge). I ordered over the phone and was confused when she asked "what side do you want more of?" Uhhh the yams I guess?? What's more popular? "Everything is popular" um ok. She then informed me it doesn't come with ANY rice and it was and extra $3-4. Huh? What Caribbean spot doesn't automatically come with rice?!! I passed on the rice bc I was craving the collards and yams.Got home, I was VERY PLEASED...with the packaging. Most spots give you the Styrofoam that leaks EVERYWHERE. As I open it . I'm instantly confused. Why the heck is the largest portion the yams and the 2 small sides collards and curry chicken with huge bones so I know it's not much chicken, where is the yellow chicken?,where is the sauce?! I waited all week for curry chicken and THIS is what I get?! (Ughk) TASTE: it was cool, not nasty but I could've made this myself. I hate liquid mashed yams, my curry flavored chicken was good, moist, tons of bones, collards, lots of ribs, sure it's out of a can, OK flavor. Overall, I would only come back if someone offered it for free. Little Delicious,Top Taste, Bad Habit etc...much better, Better portioned and about the same price ($12)

I've tried this place twice and wasn't satisfied however, decided not to write a review until now. The first time I tried the stew chicken with rice and peas, plantain and a beef patty. I thought the stew chicken was just ok, rice and peas a little spicy. I would've preferred some oxtail gravy on it. The plantain wasn't as tender or sweet as I would've liked. The beef patty was amazing. A little spicy not overwhelmingly spicy and baked to perfection. Second time I decided to get delivery. I ordered the jerk salmon with rice and peas, mac and cheese and a beef patty of course. Forty five mins later the food arrived. The salmon was a very nice thick piece however the jerk was extremely too spicy for me. The jerk seasoning was also all over my rice without my request. After two bites of the rice I was very upset I couldn't enjoy my meal due to the spiciness. The mac and cheese was tasteless I've had better kraft boxes smh. I couldn't take it anymore I felt robbed. I got in my car and drove to the restaurant. I explained the situation to the owner; He was nice and told me they generally add the sauce to your rice. He offered me an entire new meal. I just asked he replace the rice and peas and add oxtail gravy this time and I'd keep the salmon. Considering, I did order the salmon I didn't want it to be a total waste. Tonight was the final chance. I ordered the stew beef with white rice and broccoli and again a beef patty. I was unsatisfied yet again. The white rice was a better choice for me than rice and peas. The broccoli wasn't bad. Now, this stew beef honey. It was unbelievably dry and chewy just terrible. I enjoyed my rice, broccoli and beef patty. Needless to say I couldn't consume the stew beef. I really wish I'd spent my 16 dollars on something more enjoyable. I give them two stars for delivering and taking debit, and another star for the manager's customer service. Unfortunately I will not be returning

The day we ordered the jerk chicken was March 20. Late evening. It was delivered to the Aloft hotel....

This place is the best! I've been hooked since my first order of goat curry. Currently eating through the menu and I haven't been disappointed once. The sides are all delicious - try the candied yams - and you get sooo much food for the price.

I'm only giving a 2 because the greens aren't really home made. They should put more effort in the greens. Also they give you one really huge side and one regular side. They should put the meat in that big spot WITH RICE. Rice should be on the house(free) then they should put 2 regular sides on the small side of container. So 2 sides plus free rice. That's the preferred and wise choice. I be so upset with a side of vegetables that big. It's so ridiculous.

I love love the jerk salmon! It's hard to find a good food place in this area where the food is not fried, easy basic Italian, and easy basic Chinese. I haven't tried a lot yet but what I've tried so far I was very happy with.

Spot on. Curry goat was just like being in Negril. Jerk was spicy and again spot on. Can't wait to go back. Heard about this place from two Jamaicans I ran into at a bar. They said this is the spot. They were right!!

Got a flier in my mail slot and wanted to revisit our amazing honeymoon to Duncans Bay, Jamaica... Plus my husband is a Southerner and Jamaican food is a great twist on his staples. So, we went all in on a Friday and got their Pea Stew, Jerk Chicken extra spicy, and Oxtail Stew. For sides, we got mac n chee, cabbage and carrots, candied yams, fried plantains, greens, and the beans and rice. Here's our analysis: MAINS -- Pea Stew - Hubs thought it was full flavored although I thought there was a smidge too much salt. Still, a very good bean and meat stew, with lovely dumplings. Not a rainbow of flavors but comforting and filling. Jerk Chicken (extra spicy) - Kapow!! A new favorite. I'd like to give thanks to the other Yelp review that recommended getting extra spicy, because you get a ton of that kick and spices. Chicken was moist and well cooked. Dang, dang, dang. Oxtail Stew - Really flavorful. Dark and rich, the way you want it to be. Meat falling off the bone before we snatched 'em up. I'd love to see a veggie or two thrown in, but I always like to see one or two in there. Maybe mushroom, carrot, and celery? Just to sop up the delicious sauce some more! SIDES -- Mac n chee - It isn't dry, which is impressive for baked mac n chee, but I found it incredibly buttery. Too buttery for me. Cabbage and carrots - Good. Still a bit crunchy. One flavor but a good one. Candied yams - Awesome. Super tasty. Will order every time. Friend Plantains - Prefer the candied yams (which aren't fried and a healthier veg). Greens - Cooked to a good amount of tenderness, but a little boring. At least compared to what the Hubs makes. Could use a bit of vinegar for my palate. Beans and rice - Spicy, and flavorful, and rich, and heck yes. But seriously, we got some real spice on ours. So be wary if you're looking for a starch to sop up the meat. This ain't it. THIS is a star all on its own. Coconut Breeze will definitely be a entered into my contact list. Looking forward to trying other things like the curry chicken and mashed potatoes!

The portions of the food you get is very small. The delivery charge is outrageous. The rice and beans were very dry. Got one piece of oxtail that was cut into two pieces. Cabbage was mushy. Boyfriend likes it I am not a fan.

I have tried this place twice now . My first visit was ok at best . I had the oxtails , rice and peas with cabbage. The portions are HORRIBLE !!! They offer one of the side dish options to fill the largest portion of their takeout container. I'm sorry for 16.00 i would expect that the container would be used appropriately the largest space would contain the protein and the sides would be in the smaller spaces . This is why i will not return. I don't need and email apology and/ or direct message. You need to correct this for new customers .

First time there and I was not impressed by the food at all but the server was very friendly! The Mac n cheese was good but the rice and oxtail was horrible! The rice and the oxtail wasn't quite cooked completely and the oxtail sauce was watery!! Wasn't stew like at all! The cooking could be more flavorful as well!

I saw a billboard on MacDade Blvd and was tempted to try out my favorite Jamaican dish, curry chicken. I usually ask if the dish is spicy or not, more often it isn't. I decided at first that I should try a small platter first, just to see if I liked the dish or not. Bad decision, turns out that rice is considered a side and if I wanted rice, cabbage and the curry, I would have to get a medium platter instead. A little odd that rice isn't standard, but ok. It's a decent sized platter, but the largest section was for an enormous portion rice and the smaller section for the main protein and other side. I saw the size of the large platter and it was humongous. After a 5-10 minute wait, I finally got my order. I actually tried it in the store and it was decent. The meat falls right off the bone, the gravy from the curry has lots of fat and has good seasoning, it just seriously needed some salt. The carrots in the cabbage was good and the cabbage was ok, but it's kinda hard to mess up cabbage. They have other sides too, but they are mostly "soul food" sides like mac and cheese, greens, etc. Also, prepare to have ID ready, if you use a debit/credit card, they'll ask for ID even before checking the signature. I'll probably retune and I'll be sure to have cash and or my ID ready.
