This is the first time we have been here, and it was very, very good. The prices are on par with other fine Indian restaurants, especially with the amount of food you get for your money. All of us have at least one more meal to take home. The appetizer of papadam along with various chutneys is a nice way to start your experience. My mother ordered the tandoori chicken. It had 5 pieces and was very juicy and not dried out in the least. The mild was perfect for her. She got the platter which came with a side of channa masala and a rich gravy sauce. I got the chicken makhani, and while the sauce was not quite as creamy as other places I've eaten, the chicken had a good flavor. Finally, my daughter got the dal tadka and it had a wonderful, almost smoky flavor. The naan was a nice and soft and perfectly done. And the basmati rice had a nice, if somewhat muted, flavor. Our waiters were all very friendly and it was a relaxing experience - we never felt rushed. It is a BYOB place, so bring your own wine if you want.

Amazing food... Can make it as spicy as you want. The naan is delicious, especially the garlic. The service continues to get better the longer it's been in business. They are sure to keep your water full and now have fountain soda. They have a decent vegetarian selection and can opt to make some vegan. Could have some more vegetarian appetizer selections. Overall great atmosphere, friendly staff, byob, and delicious food!

We had a good experience here at the newest and much-needed Indian place in Berks County, stylish atmosphere and music (Portishead and other chill stuff). Service was sweet and informed about the dishes; after we asked about the vegan choices (which are marked with a little leaf symbol on the vegetarian menu), the server made a point to tell us the green mint sauce on the table was made with yogurt. Some of the appetizers and breads are also vegan but NOT marked, so I hope they update this. We split the samosas, 6 for $3, crispy and good. Our entrees (cauliflower/potato dish and yellow lentils) were $11 each (and we took some of them home), so I find the prices very reasonable. There is also a 10%-off Yelp coupon going right now, which they were able to process without a fuss. How I love the nutty Indian style rice, and they don't charge extra for it, like Aashiyana does, sheesh. We asked for medium spice, which was a lot more spicy than typical Berks County medium spicy, i.e. undetectable. :-) Place seemed to be hopping with takeout business too.

Yay for the food! Boo for the service! Let's just start with the bad, since I want to end this review on a good note. The manager is disconnected from his duties, the customers, and his staff. There's running a tight ship, then there's running a sinking ship. This place will be the latter if management can't step its game up. On more than one occasion, there has been no one up front at the host's stand. The manager could clearly be seen hanging around the back, glancing around the dining room. Multiple times, my friends and I MADE EYE CONTACT WITH HIM, and this was after standing at the entrance for 5+ minutes with no host in sight. His reaction? Quickly look away and mingle with staff. It's like when you got caught staring at the girl you liked in 7th grade. "Oh um, I was just looking at the, uh, funny poster BEHIND you. Yeah. That's it. The poster. Behind you. Of that cat hanging from the branch with the caption 'Hang in there'. I definitely wasn't staring at you. Haha, that would be silly if I were just staring at you this whole time, right?" It was just... odd behavior for someone in a management position. He wasn't eager to help or greet us. He was more preoccupied with pretending to look like he was doing his job. Despite the lackluster service and seemingly brain dead manager, I'll be back to this place. The food is that good. There aren't many Indian places in town to begin with, so Laxmi's is now the new King 'o Indian food in the Reading area. Heat level is a major part of ordering Indian food in the states, and at Laxmi's, even if you order a spice level that's off the charts (beyond the standard "hot"), the chef's do a great job of adding enough hotness factor without letting it overpower the dish. The flavor of cumin, fennel, cardamon, turmeric, saffron, clove, and cinnamon in each eclectic sauce still comes through. The menu itself is all encompassing and offers up a wide selection from kati rolls to Baingan Bharta (eggplant roaster in the tandoor oven, mashed, then cooked with tomatoes and spices) to Methi Paratha (whole wheat bread stuffed with fenugreek leaves) with all of your favorites (Chicken Tikka Masala, Lamb Curry) in between.

We ordered: - Vegetable Samosas: A excellent, not much else to say about them -Spicy seafood soup: B- small bits of shrimp and mostly broth. Once I ate all the shrimp I really didn't want anymore. Not very spicy either! -Malai Kebab: B+ I didn't order this my guest did. The portion was quite large easily enough to feed two people. She ordered it medium spicy but neither of us thought it was spicy at all. -Cheese Naan: A+ excellent and great for putting other parts of the meal on. -Tandoori Seafood: A+++++ I ordered this medium spicy and it was EXACTLY how I like it. This was one of the best dishes I have ever eaten anywhere. Again the portion was quite large like the kebab I talked about above. The shrimp were very big. The taste was out of this world. Despite the slightly high cost, and the not quite perfect other menu items the Naan, and the Tandoori seafood overshadowed anything else that's why I had to rate this place 5 stars!

Very nice addition to our area. The food tasted great very flavorful . The spices were phenomenal and spicy means spicy , so order with caution. Service was very good. It was refreshing to see this place busy and being rewarded by local foodies. Yelp friendly coupon available. ..

amazing food and excellent service. We went to celebrate our aunt's birthday there and they were really nice to us. we orders samosa, aloo tikki chaat, paneer tikka, malai kofta, paneer sabji, dal makhani, assorted breads, etc.. and to our surprise, each and every dish was delicious... will surely recommend and go there again ...

I have eaten here twice and both times the food was amazing. Lots of flavor! I liked the fact that you are not rushed out of the restaurant. They let you take your time, even if it's a busy night. The staff are friendly and very helpful. Definitely will be eating there in the near future!

  • Franky J.

The chicken tikka Masala here is a must have and so is the chicken kadai and the garlic naan. Mango lassi is good as well.

I'm not a big Indian food eater, only because I've only had it twice in my life, but I have always loved and adored the flavor and spices. This place was beautifully decorated inside and the staff were very quick to greet and seat you. Food was very good and tasted delicious! The bread platter with naan was delicious and I used it quite often to dunk into the curry. The atmosphere is quiet, calm, and very elegant in many ways. The only reason why I didn't give it another star was because I felt like the servers were trying to make me order more than I needed to eat! I respect the staff but had to say no many times to their offers and gestures to order more. Also, some dishes seemed a bit overpriced. Overall, we had a pleasant experience and the food was delicious!

Last night was amazing at Laxmi's. Their Tandoori dishes were great. They served us with a family naan (chef's special), it was amazing. Me and my husband made second trip in the same week. Berks county is glad to have them. Keep up the good work !

  • Lawrence R.

Ate there for the first time. The Naan was on par withe best I've had. The Korma was Devine. The Chicken Masala was good, not great, but good The Samosas were outstanding. Overall, well worth the visit and the price. The service was very friendly and complemented the meal. I highly recommend that anyone wanting very good food in a warm atmosphere, visit here.

Just had dinner at Laxmi's Wyomissing location. WONDERFUL, simply WONDERFUL. Great staff, wonderful ambience, clean and the food was out-of-this-world. Thank you!

Nice to see an Indian restaurant finally move into town, not to mention an iteration of a popular Philly-based chain. I generally go with the chana masala and naan. Flavors are bold and intense...sweat will ensue, but that's a good thing. (unless you happen to order mild, but that's no fun!)

  • Jaime J.

Marvelous place! The lamb vindaloo was one of the best I've ever had! The service is wonderful. The ambiance and feel is authentic. Came here with family and friends and loved it! I recommend this place wholeheartedly!

  • Anwish P.

The place is great but being East Indian myself I would say prices are high and the quality is not that great. The prices need to be lowered for all sorts of folks to come and enjoy the cuisine. Try going to indiAn restaurants in philly you will be amazed to see their Indian food prices.

Koobh thikh hay! Stumbled onto it. Nice atmosphere. Good service. Food.....wow! Chicken tikka. Lamb makhani. Get it medium heat. Well made right flavors and perfectly cooked. Only gripes (minor). No liquor license and the seating is not so private.

I look forward to giving them a better review when I can actually try their food. I was here on 2/11/15 on my lunch hour, and after sitting for 30 minutes and not getting a drink or food order, I walked out, and had to get drivethru & eat at my desk to make it back to work on time. This was after trying to get a waiter's attention, and after said waiters took orders from a few tables sat after me. I understand it's growing pains, and I truly do look forward giving them another try once the wait-staff is more accustomed to the flow of things. The chutney I munched on while I waited was nice.

  • Divyanth J.

I was disappointed with the restaurant. The food is way too pricey and they don't have lunch-buffet. The orders take too long to arrive and the quantity they serve doesn't do the price any justice. The ambiance is pretty and fancy. However, Wyomissing has far too many fancy restaurants and I really couldn't care for another one. The food isn't that tasty either. But so long as this is the only other Indian restaurant in Wyomissing, I'd continue to come here at least once a week. But this place has really got to watch out for competition...

  • Sherri F.

We tried this place for the first time yesterday. The food was excellent and the portion sizes were reasonable. The seating area is small. I'm glad we went at 5pm when traffic was slower. The service was very slow. Once our food was served they didn't return to us until the check came. The place is BYOB. They charge $2.95 for a fountain soda when we watched the guy crack open a can of Coke and pour it in a glass. The prices were reasonable. Because the food was tasty (their spicy chicken literally had sweat pouring off my head!!) we would go again. They need to work on their service!

  • Eric P.

This place is absolutely amazing. The service was fantastic, and the food was absolutely delicious! Everything I got I would absolutely order again. This place does everything right. One word of advice, when they say the spicy is spicy, they are not lying, it is very spicy, but still incredibly flavorful. I will be back to try some more of the menu!

We came the first week they were open. The service was understandably bumpy, but the food was incredible!

Took my mom here for Mother's Day and she loved it! Even got a rose from the wait staff. We ordered: Vegetable Samosa- they were awesome, especially with the chutneys they provide. Chicken tikka masala (medium spice)- very good, a little runny but the flavor was on point. Not much chicken but enough for two people. Malia kofta (medium spice)- a little spicy for me, next time I would get mild but the flavor was awesome. Mango Lassi- yumm especially after eating the kofta! A little thick but added some water and it was perfect. We also have the bread basket and the cheese naan and they were all awesome, my favorite was the cheese naan. We were in and out in an hour and left with enough leftovers for lunch this upcoming week. Everyone should check this place out and tell your friends, it's about time we get a good Indian restaurant in the area!

Absolutely fantastic. If it were in New York, it would compare favorably with 90-95% of Indian restaurants and, like it is here in Wyomissing, it would be packed. The chicken tikka and tikka masala are great... as is the tandoori chicken. Succulent, flavorful... and, mind you, a LOT of restaurants mess up tandoori chicken, even though it's perhaps the most common dish. The malai kofta is superb... creamy, sumptuous... a delight. I just had the Bhindi Do Piaza and, let me tell you, it couldn't have been more delightful. Peppers make me sick, but I couldn't resist it. The only other main I've had is lamb tikka masala. Why no others? I'm addicted to the chicken. I don't want anything else. I've had it about fifteen times, and it's never disappointed yet. The samosas are spot on. If you know and love Indian food, you'll see what I mean. The naan, the roti, the mango chutney and the raita are exactly as they should be. The mango lassi... it's strange to rate a mango lassi. Aren't they all supposed to be good? In fact, most restaurants don't know how to do them... or they just use cheap, concentrated mango juice. Not Laxmi's! Their lassis are just perfect... right balance of mango and yogurt.... little splash of rose water, I think. Delicious. I can't say enough about this restaurant. A gem. The first time I ate there, I told them, "Please, never close." I strongly recommend that you come out and support them.

This was, too damn good. Portions are big, leftovers for sure. Flavor was on point. I got spicy heat, and it was intense for sure (face was noticeably red) but all the flavors stood out. The naan was awesome, lassi was awesome, and now im enjoying my rice pudding from home. Cannot wait to go back or do takeout. Service was slow ish but all staff was friendly and attentive.

Loved this place, and it's such a great addition to the Wyomissing area, considering the endless franchise food found around town. This place was homemade & uniquely traditional. My party had gotten: Vegetable Samosas: a fried pastry filled with potatoes and peas w/ light seasoning (They go extremely well w/ the fresh condiments on the table) and are huge; Malai Kofta: If you love cheese, I would recommend these. You receive four dumplings which have the consistency of a bread ball w/ a cottage cheese center covered with a thick, creamy cheese sauce and spices (These were not spicy). We also got 2 types of curries: Vegetable & Lamb w/ the Jalfrezi sauce. The vegetarian came with a plentiful mixture of green peppers, onions, carrots, and peas, & the lamb was so tender, similar to crock pot roast beef. The Jalfrezi sauce was spicy, even at medium, but it's a red sauce with spices comparable to a non-traditional spaghetti sauce, and is served with rice. The staff were such a pleasure, and my waiter (even after telling him I was not well acquainted w. indian food) was super helpful, and had great knowledge of everything. I absolutely loved my venture here, and they certainly gained a customer. Thank you.

We are so happy to finally have great Indian food so close to home! We arrived around 8pm on Saturday evening and were seated promptly in spite of how busy it was . Our host and waiter were very pleasant and took good care of us. We had the vegetable samosas which were very good. I had chicken tikka masala, the sauce was amazing and our rice was perfect. We also had the garlic naan...a dream it was so good. My husband had the vegetable vindaloo medium spice. He really enjoyed it, it was delicious but too spicy for my tastes. He said it was perfect. Our 3 year old really liked his mango lassi and looking at the pretty pictures. Entire experience was wonderful! Thank you for paying attention to detail. We will definitely be back! Happy we won't have to travel to major city or out of country for good Indian food anymore.

This was our first time, we went for lunch on a Friday, there were four of us. We were seated right away in a very spacious booth. The wait staff was polite and friendly, the restaurant was very clean, great decor. We had the veggie sampler appetizer, which was very good, entrees were Malai Kofta - yumtastic, and my Vegtable Korma was full of flavor, complete the meal with delicious garlic naan and a mango lassi and it was a great experience! So glad we dont have to travel 45 minutes to get great Indian Food!

2nd visit here. They still did not have the Thalis shown on the menu. It would be a good option for dining alone, as Thalis are a mixed plate with more variety than with a single dish. Tonight I had a chicken saag in an effort to have a meat and vegetable. With rice and a plain naan, it was enough for a meal for one. I added a rice pudding for desert, but it was waaay too sweet... It literally made my teeth hurt.

Loved Laxmi's. My husband and I went this last Friday night right when they opened for the evening. Food was a bit slow to come out, but was very, very good. The ingredients were fresh and the menu was varied. We had a full box of take home food for the next day. We ordered medium spice, and it was mild. Highly recommend the Bhindi dish and the tiki masala. The have a great garlic naan too. Next time I will try spicy. I know they are taming the spices for Berks County residents. My only complaint was the phone was ringing off the hook for takeout orders. My suggestion would be to either have it on silent with a visual notification or completely move the phone into the kitchen. It was very annoying to hear the constant ringing when we were trying to enjoy a quiet dinner together.

A bit of a wait for 2 on a Friday night at 8:30PM but it was to be expected - won't complain about a packed house with everyone enjoying their meals! Great vegetarian/vegan options that were clearly marked on the menu, including veggie samosas that were were crispy with a well spiced filling. Malai kofta had a nice, creamy base and the garlic naan tasted fresh and not too doughy (the downfall of some Indian restaurants). Also, try the gulab jamun for dessert. Overall, we were very pleased with the experience and are thrilled about this new addition to the area!

Dined at laxmi's today at lunch. Food was terrible. Lamb entree for &16.99 had 5 small pieces of lamb and 2 small pieces of pits to. No flavor. Been to many Indian restaurants this was one of the worst. Talked to owner and it dud not phase him.

Fantastic! We ordered two different Tikka Masalas, Samosas, and two different naan breads. Everything came out timely and tasted delicious. Standard portion sizes in my opinion but still had left overs to take home. We will definitely be back!

The food we had at Laxmi was divine, and the servers were attentive and friendly. If you have tried and liked Devi Indian Restaurant, Jaipur, and Desi Village, you will love it here. My dining partner is Indian and he gave Laxmi's his stamp of approval. It's authentic cooking. We were seated promptly, which was a good start. Tables and booths are available, and you can BYOB. We didn't order any alcoholic drinks but a limited wine selection is available. The restaurant itself is on the smaller side, so call ahead to make reservations if you're going during dinner hours (especially on weekends). Chutneys (mint with cilantro, onions, and date sauce) were brought to the table immediately, and they gave free papadum (rolled crispy flatbread) to start. If you're looking for naan -- I recommend the garlic -- you must request it. We started off with samosas and mango lassis. For dinner we had chicken makhani and chicken tikka masala. Everything was brought to the table in a timely manner, and we thought it all tasted superb. It was a little pricey, but then again most Indian restaurants are. The food was certainly worth the price. A note about spices: they offer mild, medium, spicy, and extra spicy. We ordered medium but it seemed more like mild. If you like your spice and are accustomed to it, go for spicy or hotter. Have a lassi ready to cool your mouth if you opt for something fiery, because water alone won't do it. You don't have to be a "foodie" to enjoy it here if you've never tried Indian food. Just bring an empty stomach and a curious palate. Good food, service, atmosphere, and location. Finally a worthwhile Indian restaurant in Reading. We will certainly be back for more.

I came here with my father and stepmother for the first time tonight for dinner, and left happy. This is the first Indian restaurant in Reading outside of the city, and I'm very pleased to have it here. The food was a little different than I'm used to when I visit similar restaurants in Harrisburg, but everything was delicious. I had a mango lassi, which was very creamy and good, vegetable samosas, which were perfect, and shrimp curry. The curry base was a little different than I'm used to, but still had good flavor. I would recommend ordering up a level of spice, as I ordered medium, and I couldn't discern any spice whatsoever in my dish. My father ordered his tandoori platter spicy, and I considered it medium. This is fairly typical, though, although I have ordered medium dishes in other Indian restaurants and have wished that I had ordered it mild instead. The chef's special gravy that comes with the tandoori dishes is a little different as well... it does taste nice though! Service was good. Our order was taken in a timely fashion, and the food arrived in a good amount of time as well. I did not feel rushed, but I also not feel like I was waiting eons for takeout containers or the check. We were also checked on to make sure everything tasted good. There was no wait for a table at 6:30pm on a Tuesday, but the restaurant was definitely not empty either. There were plenty of other diners, and it even got a bit noisy at one point. I feel like the prices were a tiny bit steep compared to Indian restaurants in Harrisburg, but the price difference is only a few dollars, and the decor inside is very nice. They even have a cool lighting scheme going on. I will definitely come back here and try some more entrees and look forward to my next visit. Oh, and this place is BYOB, so bring a bottle of wine if you wish.

Very good indian food. BYOB is always nice... if you have beer they'll bring you decent beer glasses too. The service on a Saturday night was a bit slow, but I didn't mind. I still think Aashiyana's food is the best though, except you have to go into Reading.

  • Stephen L.

The chicken soup was delicious and a hearty bowl. Got the tandoori without the optional chef's gravy & special veggie which I wish we ordered. The waiters are patient, but when lines are waiting to get in, they could hustle and clean/setup a table in 3 minutes; it takes them 20. The food was very good, but I'd stick to the curries v. the tandoori. Overall excellent, but plan a late dinner v 6PM. I'll def back. Light, refreshing & fresh!

So glad they are here in Wyomissing. We tried the Samosa, Soup, Chicken Curry and Lamb Biryani were all excellent The rice was phenomenal. Waiters are attentive and friendly. Prices are reasonable and you will have enough for lunch. If you never tried Indian food tell the waiter and ask for guidance. It is great food and will be going back, plus a great take-out option.

Was really looking forward to a well needed Indian cuisine restaurant in our area , however after eating there I can only say the need has still not been met. Good thing the portions were lacking , only 4 little pieces of chicken in my dish with lots of sauce and was not very good. My guess is they are buying pre made items and warming it up. Very expensive for what you get, not to mention my daughter was violently sick that night puking up her wonderful meal. Looks like will have to still travel out of the area for decent Indian Cuisine

I just created this yelp account to express my most terrible food experience I have ever had, I am a foodie and I eat Indian food on a regular basis, my all time favorite is the chicken tikka masala, I was so excited to try this at the new restaurant but thoroughly disappointed as the food came out SUPER GROSS!! As from my experience I can tell all these 5 star reviews are home made with extra sauce and topping ! Apart from the food the prices are way too expensive and service was below average, if your a foodie and eat Indian food JUST STAY AWAY FROM THIS PLACE !!!

Food was good but it was not the experience I had hoped for the first time here. Food good, service not so much.We went as a family with 3 kids between the ages of 5-10. The server was not very good. Water glass had stuck on food on it. An entire section on the menu was not available. IMHO - if it isn't available it shouldn't be on the menu. Every time we ordered we met resistance from the sever. Ordered cheese naan for the kids and were told well it isn't like american cheese, Italian cheese but not explained what the Indian cheese was like. Same thing with the bread and sauces they brought out and placed on the table no explanation of what the sauces are and how to eat them. The kids and us would have loved being taken on a journey into the Indian cuisine. Instead we got push back at every turn. I found suitable mild food for my kids and wife and then ordered a Vindaloo curry and was told it was spicy and couldn't be toned down. I didn't ask it to be toned down, and purposely ordered the Vindaloo. Food was good price was a little on the high side for the area. The new kid on the block just wasn't ready for prime time. And they close from 3pm-5pm so expect them to turn you away if you show up after 2:15. Lots of people were turned away and it isn't because they didn't have seats. Would try again down the road.

MIND BLOWING FOOD! It actually felt the GODS came down on Earth to prepare the food. Finger licking good! Much needed Indian restaurant in Berks County. Tandoor (grill) options are great. Variety of dishes for people of all tastes. You can ask your dishes to be made on different level of spiciness. Its is BYOB too.

Reasonable prices fast delivery and good food! I am actually really surprised a new place in Wyomissing wasn't a disappointment. I have low expectations for a lot of the food places in the area and I was pleasantly surprised when my boyfriend and I ordered from here. I'm from Philadelphia and I've spent the last year trying to find an Indian restaurant in berks county...and I find out an Indian restaurant just opened up about a mile from me that delivers! I was beyond excited. We ordered the chicken tikka masala and chicken vindaloo and it was so good we didnt even finish them! Half of the tikka masala was left and we barely even touched the vindaloo...I love leftovers! Overall I give this place a thumbs up!

We have finally got a great Indian restaurant in Reading. Had lunch there yesterday...Mulligatawny soup excellent! I had chicken jalfrazi, my friend had chicken curry, both spiced perfectly. Staff is from Goa region of India...area renowned for good food. Some staff trained at Passage to India in Harrisburg..another excellent Indian restaurant. Now no need to travel so far from Reading.

As many others have said, seems like we have waited forever for an Indian restaurant to arrive on the local scene. Although it is a bit pricey for Berks County and we hope they will soon have a lunch buffet or lunchtime specials, we are happy we no longer have to wait until we travel to Philly, NYC or State College for our Indian "fix"!

So happy to have Indian food locally! We ordered carry out so can't really comment on the service, but it was ready when they said it would be. Everything tasted great. Serving size was standard, lots of rice. Wil definitely order again soon.

FINALLLLYYY! Laxmi's is exactly what is MISSING in WyoMISSING! The wait was well worth it. The food was so amazing I came for the first and second soft opening days. They were gracious enough to let us know they were still in training and working out the kinks. A long with the welcoming people and relaxed ambiance the food was absolutely AMAZING! The first night they did have a discount so I indulged with a Mixed Tandoori Platter. It was such a great assortment and because I ordered the platter AKA "chef's special sides" I recieved a side of Tikka Masala Gravy and Chana Masala that was to die for. Tonight I came with my husband and we had the Aloo Gobi, Naan, Malai Kofta, Mango Lassi, and Masala tea. We did also get something I never seen I think it was called carrott pudding. It was FANTASTIC! I WOULD RECOMMEND LAXMI'S TO ANY AND EVERYONE! Thank you so much for the wonderful experience. You will be seeing a lot of me.
