This place is the BEST!! Family owned. The food is always wonderful- service is excellent and everyone is friendly. Delicious breaded banana peppers, wonderful antipasto salad, fresh bread And the veal parmigiana is to die for. I usually can't fit dessert in- but I will take it home. This place is a must!

Rizzo's is my favorite restaurant in town. I usually get pasta dishes (langostino scampi, white clam sauce, mushroom sauce). Also, both the chicken and eggplant Parmesan are delicious. There is a large selection of appetizers and good desserts as well. I always go with the chocolate mousse. I have never had a bad meal or dining experience here.

Had my first experience with Rizzo's on a clinical rotation in Windber - strongly suggest the steak tips with the captiva sauce on the side! The eggplant parmesan is also delicious. For an appetizer, the antipasti salad is the best I've ever had. Great atmosphere. Good for a nice dinner out with friends or a date.

Rizzo's is a Windber institution, according to the locals and my new AAA guidebook. We had visted the Johnstown Heritage Discovery Center yelp.com/biz/heritage-di… and needed something to fill our stomaches after heading home. Our meal there consisted of a bowl wedding soup (3.95), breaded chicken strips & fries for our daughter (5.95), the main course was Shrimp Anthony (15.95) and a side of applesauce. Service was pretty alright, we were seated the whole way in the back of the restaurant (that's a lot of walking) and were given time to look over the menu and place an order. The food overall was good, fountain sodas are only 95 cents, but dont have free refills. The restroom is in the basement, down a long flight of stairs, so it looses 1 star for not being handicap accessable. Hours: Tues-Sat, 3pm-11pm, Sun & Mon: Closed. Rizzo's accept Visa, MC, Amex & Discover. There is private parking in the back of the restaurant.

We've been dining at Rizzo's for many years and have, up to our most recent visit, had a wonderful experience. This time however we were extremely disappointed with the level of service. We were seated promptly but left to sit in the corner without even so much as water. When the server finally arrived, she took the drink order of our group. Beers came out quickly but the cocktails lingered and when finally delivered were watered down by the melted ice. The food order suffered a similar problem, with half of the dishes coming out room temperature to cold. Granted we were a larger group (about 12), which can sometimes be tricky. But it was early evening (about 5:30) and the place was not that crowded. And, again, this has never seemed to be a problem in our past visits with big groups. I can't speculate what might have changed - new server, just an off night - who knows? Either way, we're going to take a break from Rizzo's for awhile and see if they can right the ship. The food, when served hot, is still very good.

Food not as good as expected and priced too high. Portions small. An Italian restaurant with prices this high should at least heat the bread. It was served cold, only 3 pieces. The salad dressing tasted bottled. I would not go there again.

Everyone in the area raves about Rizzo's and this was my first visit to see what the fuss is all about. We were going with a group of 6 for a birthday dinner on a Saturday evening. While they claim they take reservations, the only times they were willing to reserve were either a very early dinner around 4 pm or a late one at almost 8 pm. I've been to much nicer and better places in the large cities and you can get reservations at anytime on a weekend if made in advance. But apparently not here during their rush. Our server was average and not anything special. In fact as he was about to take our order he was paged for another tables food being ready so he left and came back 5-10 minutes later to take our order. The bread was nothing special and looked and tasted like it came from Walmart's Bakery Department. We got fried cheese which was better than average. The marinara dipping sauce was good and above average. Other members of our party got pasta salad and a regular salad to share. However there were no salad plates and they had to use the little snack plates. The salads did look good. Now for the main course. We all either got steaks filets or seafood so this review is based on that and not the Italian food or the Italian food prices. The steak we got was extremely good and was done in this special sauce they call Scotty B's. However the steak was not of the quality and taste of say a Ruth's Chris steak of the same cut but he price was. For this area this is one of the best steak I have had. Again for this area the steak was way over priced. In fact, all that came with the steak was a choice of one side. For this price in this area the steak should have came with a salad, a vegetable, and a potato or choice of pasta. I chose the rigatoni as my side. It would have been tasty had they used the dipping sauce that was provided with the cheese sticks. They didn't. It was rather bland and one step above Ragu from a jar. If this is their regular sauce then I really don't see what all the hype over Rizzo's is about. We had 2 beers & 2 vodka drinks. The bill came to almost $80 for 2 people. This is way too much money for a old coal mining town. I would go back again to try the different Italian dishes and to see what the value is there. Here is the problem with this area and the people there. Most never leave the area to try dining elsewhere so this gives Rizzo's a captive audience. If they were in a large city area with many Italian places to chose from they would be average or a hair above that.

Great atmosphere and great food. A diamond in windner pa. Our server was Victoria and she was amazing. If you are looking for a very nice classy place this is it. I will defiantly dine when in the area.

Quaint family owned Italian Restaurant. Italian Wedding soup was very good and is made on the premises. Great service and a family atmosphere. I also had eggplant Parmesan. It was pretty standard except for the sauce. The sauce was incredible! Is recommend it for casual & simple, but good Italian meals.

Fantastic Italian dining at a reasonable price. Rizzo's is considered a "high end" dining experience in the Johnstown area. If you stick with their Italian specialties you can't go wrong. The sauce at Rizzo's has some spice that gives it a not-so-bland flavor. In my opinion, it's just what a good meal needs. Be sure to have one of their antipasta salads. They are fantastic. And, the wedding soup is awesome! The prices are reasonable for a high quality Italian dining experience.

I ate here this past Friday night for dinner with three other dining companions. The decor of the restaurant is nice and inviting with white table cloths and cheery walls. We were greeted by the server almost immediately after sitting with him giving us the specials and a wine list. For dinner our group decided to start off with two appetizers, the assorted platter and grilled calamari . While we were waiting for some appetizers a bread basket was served and much to the chagrin of my dining companions it was plain old white bread and nothing special. Shortly thereafter our appetizers were served and while they looked good, my initial thought was "That's all of it?" since they seemed to be quite small. Both appetizers tasted decent with the standout portion for me being the sauce from the calamari which I happily dipped some of the bread into. After our appetizers were cleared I was told that they had run out of french onion soup that came with my meal but if I was willing to wait ten minutes, they could make some more. The decision to wait was well worth it as the soup was excellent with a large amount of cheese on the top, a flavorful broth and a good amount of croutons inside. For dinner I had decided upon the fresh baked stuffed flounder which consisted of two flounder fillets stuffed with crab meat. Whenever our entrees came out, there were only three of them and our server told us that the kitchen had over fired the haddock of one of my dining companions and that a replacement would be up shortly. However, it did not come for quite a while and the three of us who had been served dinner were completely done by the time the fourth dinner was served. I understand why they served us at that point though as my flounder was not even luke warm whenever it was presented to me. Due to that it had a rubbery consistency and I considered the dish altogether below average. It was not only me though as the rest of my companions also thought that their meals were average at best. The bottom line for me is that I would not waste my time here again in the future. Between the waits for the soup and the fourth dinner combined with the sub par food it was not even close to the worth the money that we spent. The only redeeming factor that I liked about the restaurant was that they had a decent wine list with many bottles for $25.

An older family owned and operated Italian restaurant. All of your Italian favorites are here from appetizers, soups, salads and pastas to heartier entrees, like a good steak. This restaurant started as a meat and deli market in 1924 from an Italian family that immigrated from Northern Italy. In 1937 it was turned into the "Fairway Cafeé" and finally expanding and growing from a successful name, Rizzo's Italian restaurant was born in 1965. I always get the same things, I tend to get stuck when I've enjoyed a dish so much. My favorites are the escargot or crab stuffed mushrooms as appetizers, although they have a good dozen plus to choose from. All of their soups and sauces are made from scratch and their pizzas are wonderful, especially the white seafood pizza with garlic. They make a huge antipasto which can be shared or eaten as an entree. Most of their pasta's are homemade such as the fettuccini noodles and the ravioli's. They have a long list of pasta dishes as entrees or sides to go along with your chicken, veal, pork or steak dinners. My fav's are the chicken parmesan, shrimp parmesan, any of the seafood scampi's and the crab stuffed shrimps. They have a firm clientele. Place could use a face lift, but then again, so could I.. The food is very good and the service is friendly. Closed Monday's and open for dinner only at 3PM.

In the small town of WINDBER sits this well established Italian restaurant that was recommended as the best restaurant in the area. A long hall way leads to the back dinning rooms, the service was quick and attentive on a Friday early evening. A couple of slices of regular white bread out of a bag were served with the somewhat greasy breaded and fried calamari for appetizer. I much prefer calamari to be whole and not only sliced rings. I had the spinach salad and it consisted of very few measley spinach leaves tomatoes, and mushrooms. I also ordered the hot bacon dressing for an additional .75 which was served in a large gravy server...way too much for this piddly salad and tasted surprisingly bland. Partner had the homemade ravioli stuffed with ricotta that he said was no better than Chef boyardee out of a can and came with only an anemic one 1/2 meatball to boot. My Chicken Parmigiana was perfectly fine and moist but both our diners came with a marinara sauce that was way too bitter and really needed a touch of sugar to lessen the acidic effects of the tomatoes. Homemade apple pie was uninspired and doughy. Sadly if this is the best Windber and Johnstown has to offer,it's better to go to a chain.

Italian Cuisine

The immense popularity of Italian cuisine globally isn't unknown. You can find an Italian Pizzeria around every corner of almost every city in the United States. Not to forget that in every house, people enjoy mac and cheese as comfort food. But it would be wrong to believe that Italian food starts with pizza and ends with good pasta as this Mediterranean country has much more to offer other than these two dishes. In Italian Cuisine, there is a high use of fresh tomatoes, all kinds of herbs, great quality of cheese, all types of meat, seafood and fresh handmade pasta. Many find it hard to believe that Italians have been making noodles long back.

Italian and Greek cuisines are always mistaken to be same, but they are poles apart. The primary difference between the two cuisines is the use of cheese in most of the Italian dishes. Italians love to cultivate their own cheese and process them as per their food requirement. It is believed that some cheese is so expensive that cheese producers secure them in lockers.

If you are bored eating the same old pasta or pizza, you can try some of the authentic Italian dishes like Risotto, Polenta, Ribollita, Lasagna, Fiorentina Steak, Bottarga, Ossobuco, Carbonara, Focaccia, Arancini and Supplì. Another item which Italians love to relish every morning is a good cup of Italian Coffee. Once you taste a freshly brewed cup of Italian Coffee, you might not visit Starbucks ever again. Authentic Italian food is made with heart and soul, so go find a restaurant where you can relish Italian cuisine in your city.
