Italian Cuisine
The immense popularity of Italian cuisine globally isn't unknown. You can find an Italian Pizzeria around every corner of almost every city in the United States. Not to forget that in every house, people enjoy mac and cheese as comfort food. But it would be wrong to believe that Italian food starts with pizza and ends with good pasta as this Mediterranean country has much more to offer other than these two dishes. In Italian Cuisine, there is a high use of fresh tomatoes, all kinds of herbs, great quality of cheese, all types of meat, seafood and fresh handmade pasta. Many find it hard to believe that Italians have been making noodles long back.
Italian and Greek cuisines are always mistaken to be same, but they are poles apart. The primary difference between the two cuisines is the use of cheese in most of the Italian dishes. Italians love to cultivate their own cheese and process them as per their food requirement. It is believed that some cheese is so expensive that cheese producers secure them in lockers.
If you are bored eating the same old pasta or pizza, you can try some of the authentic Italian dishes like Risotto, Polenta, Ribollita, Lasagna, Fiorentina Steak, Bottarga, Ossobuco, Carbonara, Focaccia, Arancini and Supplì. Another item which Italians love to relish every morning is a good cup of Italian Coffee. Once you taste a freshly brewed cup of Italian Coffee, you might not visit Starbucks ever again. Authentic Italian food is made with heart and soul, so go find a restaurant where you can relish Italian cuisine in your city.

I grew up in Williamsport, PA and used to drop my brother off at his job as a valet at DiSalvo's in high school, but this was my first time actually going inside as a patron! We were a party of three and had no trouble getting a reservation for Friday night. I had to call midweek and push it back from 6 to 7pm and it was no problem. We sat outside, which was fine for the most part. A "smooth jazz" trio were playing, and while it was a nice touch, at times it made chatting a bit difficult. Service was impeccable and attentive without being overbearing. We got the bruschetta app for the table, which was fresh, but not the most sharable plate as it came on one big piece of bread, but we were able to manage. My husband got the lobster, crab, & roasted garlic alfredo penne, which he said was not at all heavy and the seafood fresh. I had a bite and agreed. Our friend had shrimp, lobster, scallops, sweet peas, & saffron risotto that she really enjoyed. I had a taste as well and found it to be very flavorful. I had the shrimp scampi and the pasta was cooked perfectly, flavor was right on the money and the shrimp were fresh and juicy. We all tried each other's dishes and all agreed, while we liked a taste of the other entrees we individually preferred ours! That's like never happens, right! For desert we shared the tiramisu and the creme brulee amongst the 3 of us. Actually thy each ordered a dessert and I got a few bites from both. The creme brulee was creamy, sweet, but not too rich. In fact, all the food we had was quite prefect for a summer dinner outside, nothing too heavy or overbearing. I'd definitely come back to Di Salvo's next time I'm in town and have the time for an upscale refined dining option.

Most recently we attended a brunch after a funeral. The food was outstanding! Tortellini, chicken, stuffed pork, mashed potatoes and rigatoni. Everything was delicious. Dessert was a chocolate tort and cheese cake. All made in house. Staff was very attentive. Definitely would recommend DiSalvos!

I went to DiSalvo's last night with my fiance. We were very impressed with the restaurant when we walked in. We are new to the area and weren't expecting the atmosphere to be so nice. We didn't have a reservation and they asked us to wait in the lounge for a few minutes....it was very old boy's club style. big leather sofas, bear skins, etc. We were seated promptly and our server was quick to take our drink order. That was about the only thing that happened quickly. I don't blame our server at all. The restaurant had assigned him multiple tables spread out in different rooms of the restaurant. How could he possibly provide good service when he was running all over the place? Our server could only find us one roll and we had to wait for more to come out of the oven. That was alright since the ones out of the oven were fresh and warm. We ordered the prosciutto and broccolini for an appetizer. the broccolini was amazing - simple preparation of garlic and olive oil but not over cooked at all. The prosciutto plate was nice but I prefer to have my prosciutto sliced paper thin and this was a little thick and not evenly sliced. but still a nice presenation with mozzarella balls, cherry tomatoes and peppers. I had the penne with crab and lobster and my fiance had the pollo vesuvio. the pasta portion was huge and had a lot of crab and lobster. my fiance quickly polished off the chicken dish. We loved the food but were expecting better service at what we have heard was one of the nicer restaurants in williamsport. We had 2 glasses of wine, 2 beers, 2 appetizers and 2 entrees for around $90.

We are from out of the area. Our son attended Lycoming College and we went there to celebrate his graduation and reward him for a 4 GPA for his last semester. When viewing the menu we noticed a $75 aged rib-eye on the menu ... It was well higher than most other things on the menu but prompted my curiosity. When the hostess came back we inquired about the dish ... She went on to explain that it was dry aged in-house for and that the weight aged was 36 to 42 ounces which is A LOT of meat. When our VERY courteous, attentive server came I asked if they would serve the entree as two dinners and if so what would be the extra cost. He was quick to reply "yes and no additional charge". Needless to say, that ended up our choice. I have eaten at many steakhouses across the US though the first time I have had dry-aged beef ... the only words I could use to describe the flavor, done-ness and texture are UNBELIEVABLY FANTASTIC!!! With our son graduating our frequency of visiting Williamsport will lessen significantly ... but ... my wife and I agree that our next time through Williamsport will include a stop at DiSalvos.

I like the food. It is yummy. I was happy to be there. It was fun. The pasta and sauce is made in house.

Stumbled in from out of town and what a find! As good a dining experience as I've ever had. Bread... Homemade in house... Salad... Fresh & delicious...Pasta... Homemade in house... Great wine list... Great service... And if you happen to run into Henry & Jack at the bar... The stars are aligning and you're in for a great evening. Go, go, go to DiStifanos'

This is the first restaurant I try in Williamsport, and it has already become a favorite. I had the lunch special (a crabmeat salad) and it was fantastic. I also recommend the peach iced tea for those of you who like sweetened iced tea to drink. Wonderful friendly and welcoming service too.

We are from Williamsport, and have enjoyed DiSalvo's food for years. Have had events there, and although many of my friends won't go their due to poor service experiences, I have defended the place for years. (chef is amazing and have a friend who works there) No more. Absolutely horrible experience this evening. Asked about the bill and was pounced on by the server. When my wife went to smooth things over, he blew smoke in her face, and slammed a door on her. When the manager came over she accosted my wife, made her cry, and the server verbally attacked me. We know 6 families who will not dine at this restaurant due to similar experiences. Go elsewhere.

We were driving from CO to MA and stopped in Williamsport for the night. It happened to be my birthday, so I looked for a nice spot to eat. There were some 'iffy' reviews on DiSalvos, but most of the comments about food were positive, so we took a chance. Our meal was awesome - the waiter was extremely nice and attentive, the food was delicious, and the wine that he recommended was wonderful. We sat downstairs in the open kitchen area, and loved the atmosphere. The 'specials' page had great items: the smelts with fried pickled peppers was excellent, as was the bolognese dish! A wonderful 'find' on our way home!

My boyfriend and I met some friends here a few weeks ago for a birthday dinner. We called for reservations at 7. They called us back and moved out res back to 730. So we got there about 715 and just down in the bar for a few drinks before dinner. 730 came and went. So did 830. We weren't seated until 840. It took another 15 minutes for our waiter to come to the table. He was incredibly rude and unhelpful with the menu. We ordered pizzas for an appetizer. When they finally came to the table, the bottoms were covered in soot from the unclean deck of the ovens. My napkin was black by the end of the night. After our appetizers were completely gone and we'd been sitting there with empty plates and empty glasses for about 10 minutes, our waiter finally reappeared with the same bad attitude to take our entree order. I ordered a crab cake and another glass of wine. Crab cake came out burned and lacking any kind of flavor. Never received my glass of wine. I saw the head chef sitting in the bar more than we saw the waiter. Completely disappointed for the hype this place has and the prices they charge. Probably never go back.

I am a bit biased against "fine italian dining". To me the essence of italian cooking is simple home cooked fare using fresh ingredients and lots of passion in coming up with great tasting food. My opinion is that when you try to make Italian food upscale, you lose a bit of that soul. DiSalvo's is a place that seems like it is trying to go upscale. You got the front part with columns that is a facade for a cinderblock building that may very well have been a butcher shop in it's past life. The inside is in a bit of disarray as they are currently resurfacing the wood floor. Our group ate out in the patio area as it was a very nice night for eating outside. DiSalvo's serves a number of very nice wines and beers but I passed on them, not feeling like alcohol tonight. For appetizers, we had Pane Formaggio, Clams Casino and Calimari Fritti. The Calimari was breaded and fried and was pronounced excellent, likewise the Clams Casino. I liked the Pane Formaggio, a slice of crusty bread with melted cheese on top and served with a marinara sauce. It was a bit heavy on the cheese but it went down good tonight. Also served was crusty bread with olive oil and strawberry viniagrette. Olive oil was of very good quality and the vinagrette was interesting. For salad I had the Ensalata della Casa. What was neat about the salad is that the components were grown in the area and very fresh. This was served with a basalmic vinegar dressing and was very good. My entree was the Lasagne alla Napolatana, layers of noodles, ricotta cheese and a five cheese blend. This was covered with a sauce containing ground beef and pork. The portion was quite large and I found the lasagne very good but not the best I've had. Talking to the group, apparently they really do a great job with seafood. The salmone arrosto and the salmone alla griglia was really drawing rave notices. In spite of my bias, I can't deny that they really do serve good food. And the service was exceptional on this night. It seems to me this is a place that you would want to take guests as the food is good, the service is attentive and they appear to be consistent as many of my companions come here on a regular basis.

If this app gave 10 stars for a restaurant I would give it to this one. This is as good as any of the best New York City restaurants. The dishes are impeccably prepared. Whether you order fish, meat or pasta it's all great! There is plenty of additional parking across the street as well.

We arrived 45 mins ahead of our reservation so that we can sit outside in the 'wine bar' area and have a drink prior to dinner. It took at least 15 mins for someone to acknowledge and serve us. We were then seated outside for our meal. We wanted another round of drinks and were told we cannot have the same wine or beer because the 'wine bar' and the inside bar do not have the same brands. And she couldn't go to the 'wine bar' to get our drinks if we were dining. Makes no sense -its the same restaurant! Orders taken. We waited over one hour-and I"m not making this up or exaggerating at all-just for our appetizers. Probably took the chef a whole 5 mins to make-garlic bread with no garlic and bruschetta which was sliced bread with tomatoes on top. Real difficult! We had grilled romaine salads which tasted like they were grilled in the pizza oven. By the time our meals came it was so dark outside we couldn't even see what we were eating. Ended up taking most of it home. Very disappointing.

Excellent wine from Italy, including some Super Tuscans and some wine from Sardinia! A very extensive wine list - most every bottle from Italian growers. Very nice decor for a formal night out but very friendly and fun. You should try out their great downstairs open kitchen, down the marble stairs, near the wood fired ovens and the high flying flames of the stoves. Very good risotto, pasta dishes and meats. Excellent duck. The salmon with chargrilled asparagus is super. The zuppa de pesci is also very good. Months with "R's" usually have fresh oysters, often with a very good vinaigrette. Pizzas are wonderful, like the ones in Italy with thin crust and cooked in the wood fire oven. DiSalvo's has the best bar in our area. It is very nice to just sit in the big leather couch and drink Italian wine. In warmer months they also have a very nice patio, shielded from the street, with a fountain and greenery. Fridays there is often Jazz on the patio. The waitstaff is very friendly and strive to make your visit an entertainment as well as a great meal. I really don't have a second choice in Williamsport when I want the very best food and experience. I recommend this to all my foodie friends and take clients and special guests there often.

I ate here the other night, and I experienced some of the worst service in recent memory. The only reason I'm giving it 3 stars is because I really liked my dish. My whole table had to sit in uncomfortable chairs (for big and tall guys) for 3 hours. There were many times where the waiter would disappear for 15-30 minutes, even when we were waiting to order or get our checks. Then when we received our checks many of them were wrong. My check had another check's meal on it, an extra iced tea, and the one meal was 2 dollars more than it was listed (on an already slightly overpriced meal). I saw the waiter look at the menu, then he left and when he came back the meal was off, but my check still had the extra tea and the meal was still 2 dollars more. At this point my butt was completely asleep, so I just gave up and paid the extra money. The whole time I just thought the waiter didn't care, and he didn't seem busy, so I don't know where he kept going. It was also annoying that all the checks already had gratuity in at 20%, I tip well but I never would have tipped this waiter that high. Now, on to the actual restaurant and food. I ordered a lobster and crab pasta with a roasted garlic cream sauce, a bread appetizer, and a cannoli. The app was very tasty, almost like a high class cheesy bread, with a nice Tuscan bread topped with spices and cheese with a marinara dipping sauce. The reason I ordered this was that the side salads cost the same as the appetizers, at 7 dollars. Some of the other people at my table got salads and they did look pretty good, but it would annoy me to pay that much for a side salad when the meal itself is already 23 dollars (or 25 with the upcharge they wouldn't correct). My meal was delicious, the lobster tail was very sweet, and the crab meat was evenly spread throughout the sauce giving it an amazing depth of flavor in every bite. The pasta was homemade & cooked perfectly, and the portions were very generous. Other people at my table didn't have as good of a meal as I did. My uncle, who is also a big guy, ordered a Tuna special (which I think was the most expensive meal) and while he said it was good it was tiny. The plate was way to big, had a tiny piece of fish, a sloppily plated sauce, and a few leaves of greens. He actually said that he'd probably have something else to eat when he went home. Some other people's pasta dishes looked pretty good (the shrimp and scallop, and shrimp scampi) but 3 people had the chicken pasta, and they didn't love it. First off, for all the pasta they had, they only received barely half of a small chicken breast. Also, when I tasted it, there was a bit of an odd aftertaste to it. Now on to desert, the cannoli dish had 2 mini cannoli's instead of one regular sized one. There was also a bit of espresso flavor in the cream similar to a Tiramisu, that was ok, but not something I loved. Another person had a gelato, and while they liked it I thought the consistency was a little off, too hard/icy. So in general, I wouldn't want to come here again. The whole place seemed a little uppity, playing at an upscale classy restaurant but not quite pulling it off.

Unbelievable delicious food. Have been here many times for special occasions and just dinner. Wonderful Italian dishes, wine. Service is outstanding. Do NOT miss the gelato for dessert ! Jazz on the patio, in the summer is wonderful

I recently was in Williamsport for work, and someone recommended DiSalvo's to me. I dropped in on a Tuesday night, and I was one of only a few people dining that evening. Nevertheless, everything was as superb. I was very impressed with the food options available here with plenty of entrees for us non-carb non-pasta eating souls. I chose the grilled salmon, which honestly (and I hate to say it for a salmon in the middle of Pennsylvania) may have been the best salmon I've ever had. It was a hearty portion, juicy, grilled, and perfectly seasoned. Every bite was delicious. It was served with some vegetables that also were delicious. I also chose a nice cabernet to accompany the meal. All of the staff was welcoming and engaging, but Zach the bartender made me feel perfectly at home, and he became like a guest at my table as we chatted throughout my meal. This restaurant is not just great for Williamsport. It would hold its own in Manhattan or any other great food city. I am impressed.

I was there on business and looking to have a nice quiet diner and watch some of the NCAA basketball games. I found this place. They allowed me to sit in a quiet place and turn on the game for me. I had a craving for a special Italian dish and even though they didn't have that specific dish on the menu, they made it for me along with a very generous pour of wine. Don't wast your time looking for another restaurant downtown - this is the one!

For those who don't want to read the essay. Long story short it was the most amazing experience I have ever had. I'd give it ten stars if I could. Don't hesitate to try this piece of heaven out. My friend who is from the area brought me here last week. She had been talking about it for a whole year prior to our visit. It is her absolute favorite. I was a bit skeptical because its in the middle of PA and Italian cuisine is overdone. Being from New York City and a picky eater I was weary. On the other hand, my friend is a Foodie. From the moment we walked in through the patio, it was the most beautiful setting I had ever laid eyes on since being in PA. The wine bar looked straight out of a Miami lounge (and not the ratchet kind). Our table wasn't ready yet, but the service made up for it. While we waited we got to listen to live jazz, and had a couple of drinks. The moment our table was ready we got the sweetest apologies for the short wait. I had no idea what to order or what to expect. The menu had the most delicious sounding combinations. It was hard to pick just one. The best part was the patience of the waiter. He answered any of my questions, helped me choose the Rack of Lamb, and even reminded to squeeze a lemon over my salad for the best taste. Words cannot describe the experience I had with the food. The olive oil and vinaigrette with the freshly baked bread was unbelievable. Then the appetizer which was prosciutto, tomatoes and fresh mozzarella left me wanting even more. Then I got a smoked salad. I have never even heard of smoked lettuce. My first bite and my last bite were equally amazing. No diminishing returns. And the Rack of Lamb was the most tender and flavorful bite I have ever had. I no longer compare the restaurant to my experiences in PA, I compare it to all the restaurants I have ever dined in. It is amazing quality, and did not feel rushed. There was no Olive Garden feel to it. On the contrary, I felt cozy and a part of the family. Each employee was willing to make my experience that much better. They welcomed me with open arms. The restaurant is an hour away from where I live, but I wouldn't mind making that trip over and over. And I can truly say that when I move back to New York I'll miss this restaurant.

Went here for our 46th anniversary as we have for years. Never had a bad meal yet. Hubby got salmon and asparagus which he loved. I got the wide fresh pasta with shrimp and scallops. Yummmm. Atmosphere is warm and cozy, friendly and service was excellent.
