Disappointed. They slopped everything on my plate as if I am at a buffet. AC was on strong, so food got cold while I was eating it. Taste was too salty like what others wrote here. I don't think the cooks are trained properly here. They are probably dish washers who became cooks by some stroke of luck. I visit Japan couple times a year for over 10 years now and the food was below average... I went only because my friends dragged me there. Obviously I won't return if I have a choice.

This is my favorite sushi place ever! I've eaten at quite a few sushi places and none comes close to Mizu. The lunch special is amazing! I mean you get soup or salad and 2 rolls for $8 or three rolls for $11. The selection of rolls are standard like spicy tuna, boston, alaska, california and a few others but they all taste fresh and awesome. I've also had the hibachi, which I didn't like as much as the sushi but our chef was more entertaining and funnier than the ones at Katana. I ordered shrimp and scallop and they give you a good amount everything. But go for the sushi, it's amazing.

We were staying in town a few places and this place was convenient. There is a good atmosphere to the place. Though what's strange is if you are sitting for the regular sushi or kitchen meals, there are chairs at the sushi bar and regular bar, but only 2 booths. The other section is for hibachi. The service staff were quick and friendly. The sushi chefs worked hard. There is a house salad they may give you if you are at the sushi bar which was terrific. The sushi and specialty rolls (crazy, hawaiian, samarai) we all had were very good, though the scallop roll I had was a little disappointing (the rice tasted undercooked or stale). The kitchen dishes were average (chicken teriyaki, yaki soba). Prices are a little pricey for middle of nowhere PA but on par with what I'm used to. Overall a good experience.

The atmosphere is bipolar, the restaurant being divided into the twirling-knife hibachi show and a traditional, full service sushi bar. I chose the latter. naturally. Despite the hibachi madness, the sushi bar was reasonably quiet. There were occasional cheers from the other section, but the solid wall divider muted them enough to cut the edge. The menu is diverse and there are fresh fish specials available that are not on the menu. I chose a spicy salmon roll, saba sushi (mackerel), and suzuki sashimi (sea bass). The fish was of the finest quality, as good and fresh as any I have had. The sushi chefs are properly trained and clearly take pride in details. The rice was perfectly cooked (an under-appreciated art form). I was offered a starter salad "on the house". This salad was fantastic. Fresh mango, shredded vegetables, daikon, grated ginger, and miso dressing. Wow! I recommend Mizu for excellent sushi!

The food was great! And the hibachi cook was fantastic and friendly! The wait staff made us feel as if we were not wanted! They were efficient in serving - but very unfriendly! As I am from Texas - it could just be my outlook since we can be overly friendly at times! But short, biting answers and no smiles - that just says "you're unwanted" in my book! We loved the food! It was plentiful and taste wonderful! I would try going once more just because the food was fantastic! Maybe they had an off day!
(4)Christine C.
Slightly biased review since I was the bartender there for 3 1/2 years but having moved to Houston now, I can say I miss the food! You can't work many places for 3 1/2 years and eat there 4 nights a week and not get sick of it. There were so many options and combinations and I knew first hand how good the quality was.
(5)Alanna B.
One of the best places for hibachi that I have had. This place is not the best for sushi (I've had better), but the sauces and flavors for hibachi are awesome!
(5)Mike D.
Best Hibachi I have ever had. Did take out as I was staying next door. Had the steak and chicken. You get a ton of food for $20.
(5)Joe M.
Loved their high-end paper dinner napkins. Suggested tuna maki was slimy and the Spanish mackerel sushi had no flavor. All was over-priced. Nice atmosphere though. Personally, I had a hard time understanding the wait staff. Employees could brush up on their English. I stole a napkin.
(2)Michael L.
Passing through on business and stopped here late (9pm)... Service and food were both great! Highly recommend.

We are in Wilkes Barre once a week, and always have dinner out while we're there. We have gone to Mizu many times, and never had a major issue in the past. The sushi is a 7 out of 10, the hibachi is a 5, but their prices are pretty good and they have good lunch specials. But the last time we visited they brought my fiancé the wrong sushi plate, which I realized after he had already eaten a piece. We explained to the waitress that it was not correct, she apologized & took his plate to the sushi bar. My fiancé got up to use the rest room (walking past the sushi bar), and saw the plate sitting on top of the counter. He came back, and was served the correct plate, and seconds later we saw his original plate being served to another table! Now he literally had only touched the 1 piece that he ate, however it is in direct violation of the health code to serve a plate to another customer after it has been placed at another table. I asked to speak to the manager, and when I explained to her what the waitress had done, she suddenly acted like she didn't understand english. As an apology for the trouble she gave us a $15 gift certificate, but I explained to her that she should be giving it to the customer who got a second hand plate! I am a germaphobe, needless to say we won't EVER BE returning!!

Stopped in for a quick bite. Was seated rather quickly. But then sat for well over 10 mins and no one, no one came to out table. They waited on the table next to us. Several servers were standing around by the kitchen door and near a register. We just sat there staring hoping someone would notice. I even waved to no avail. Oh well.
(1)Russell H.
The hibachi is quite good and you get a lot for the same amount you would pay anywhere else. You get both noodles and rice, makes it easy if you like both and can't decide. The chefs and service is usually very good, probably one of the best hibachi restaurants in the area.
(4)Sammy L.
Every year we travel to pocono I enjoy coming here for dinner and it never disappoints. This is one of the few places in the country where I will eat shrimp because of the shrimp sauce they have.
(4)Dr. K.
I live in NYC but stopped in for sushi while visiting Wilkes-Barre. I should have walked out when I saw the NY prices. Wilkes-Barre is the hub of great cheap eats. Mizu is definitely NOT one of them. Strike 1. When I asked to substitute a cheaper roll for one of the rolls in our platter we were told we would have to pay extra substitution fees. Strike 2. The wait staff forgot to bring elements of our platter (although they brought them later when we pointed it out). Strike 3. Our sashimi was not tasty, with several pieces smelling funky. Strike 4. Our red snapper in particular was so chewy we spit it out. Strike 5. And the spicy tuna roll was like no other I've ever seen before -- and also too chewy. Strike 6. Do yourselves a favor, if you ever have a craving for sushi in NEPA, skip this place.
(1)scott v.
Completely unsatisfied! I would give them a negative rating if I could. I was told of a "special" 5 oysters for $3, turns out they are $3 each, complete ripoff! I asked to see the manager and he didn't do anything about it. The food is ok but watch out!
(1)Ben A.
It's not a traditional Japanese hibachi as their sign says. Food overly saturated with soy sauce, and chefs who are overly confident in their abilities. Take for example the classic flipping food into one's mouth. One chef attempted it at two tables, a total number of twenty-seven times. Not a single piece of food made it where he aimed. Two people had to leave because they were hit in the eye throughout their constant their attempts, completely dissatisfied with the way things were going. It's OK food at the best. What you're really coming here for is glorified Chinese with a show, something you could get on the other side of the lot from the hibachi at Super King's Buffet, with the added seven dollars per dish on your bill. Go elsewhere if you're looking for a proper Japanese hibachi experience.
(3)Dan R.
Best sushi in the area! The lady and are here at least every other week if not more.
(5)tahir d.
This place doesn't serve Japanese food. Sat at the bar. Christine attended to me. I lived in Japan for ten years, so I think I have a good idea of what is expected. I ordered the steamed shrimp balls(shu-Mai), pork pot stickers(gyoza), deep fried spring rolls(harumaki), tofu skin(inari) and the deep fried shrimp tempura(ebi tempura). First star lost was due to everyone not speaking Japanese. Second star lost was due to the up keep of the sushi and bar. It is in the same place. Drinks and sushi are not to be prepared from the same area. The knives used to cut the fish is not the correct type. The food came out smartly. I asked for hot dried peppers(shishimi) no joy. The food tasted well. My problem is with the shrimp tempura. It was too oily. My heart slowed down and felt bad. I usually can eat plenty of Japanese food. I had to stop mid meal because the food was too oily. This is not Japanese food. Japanese food is more bland. This restaurant should cook different kind of Asian food. Like Thai or Chinese Christine was ok.
(2)Katie C.
Every time I've eaten here the food seems slimy. The veggies are limp, even the rice seems slimy. And it isn't cheap. I'd rather go to Katana downtown, and pay a little more to have the same food made right.
(2)Lee R.
Great food, great service. Only room for improvement is the lack of atmosphere ... Everything was dead quiet when I was there. A little Japanese music would go a long way towards creating a better dining experience.
(4)Angela G.
Ordered a strip on the hibachi a few days ago and it tasted really off. How is it possible to make a steak taste awful?! I didn't finish it and brought it home with me. My boyfriend snagged the leftovers as I walked in the door and also commented on the not-tasty steak. When you're paying 20 bucks for a meal, you'd expect the meat to at LEAST be fresh. The rice and the noodles didn't have much flavor either. A few days before I went to Mizu, I had lunch at Katana, and I couldn't help think back to how much better their food really is. I'll be sticking with Katana from now on.
(2)David L.
Came here for a business trip. It's def convenient if you're staying at the Hilton Garden next door. You even get a 10% discount, make sure you tell the server that. Don't get the mackerel. But the sashimi was ok, decent size slices.
(3)Dennis P F.
The food was really good. The service was excellent. I like how the chef had fun with the group I was with. I would recommend this place to anyone who loves hibachi.
(5)Amber K.
If you are going out for your birthday, you can do better. The food is good, but the service wasn't, and the hibachi show was boring. Nobody who works there smiles, at all. They also almost forgot it was a birthday...
(2)Anthony R.
IMO, the best hibachi in the area. My son ordered one of the various eel rolls (I think it was a black dragon roll). It was okay, but didn't live up well compared to Asaki or Katana for sushi. The inside is beautiful. It reminds of Japanese restaurants in bigger cities. I was surprised at the number of tables they had available. It's a beautiful place and I hope that they do well. I've recommended the place to friends who enjoy hibachi dinners.

So odd? I reviewed this place months after it opened, buuuut my review is gone! Yelp, you sorry SOB; stop blaming it on the algorithm. Recap: First review. Service was abominable. Growing pains. Whatev. Next visit. Service still super sucktastic. Told the server my wife was shellfish allergic (a necessarily recurring theme) . Waited forty minutes for our order and received an appetizer we didn't order (thanks no). I observed the guys making the sushi ( at the bar/ sushi area) cracking raw SHELLFISH into cocktails almost touching our food, so we left. 11/14/2013. I had previously decided to give this place another chance because the sushi roll choices are significantly different than the local competitors. Three weeks prior they labeled everything correctly, but put a roll with shellfish in a container with my wife's roll, after I requested individual trays. I really wanted to think that this was a simple mistake. I ate my wife's food. 12/7/2013 - Final Determination: Got a shellfish allergy? The level of incompetence here proves they really don't give a flying eff. I made an order for take out explicitly requesting that each order of sushi be labeled and put in a container away from those containing shellfish. Repeated myself three times. When I arrived to pick up the order nothing was labeled and for some bizarre reason, one of my shellfish rolls was crammed in with one of my wife's. Response from hostess, "Oh? The girl that took your order is gone. Do you want it then? " I asked her to have them remake the roll. She took it over and put it on the counter in front of the guy who makes the sushi. He's mad. He sees me standing right there and continues to go off on this girl. This guy cuts up fish and makes rice all day and he thinks he can refuse to correct his mistake? The manager is standing right there, not giving a damn after she determined that the hostess should have the roll redone. They argued for 3 minutes before this guy who isn't even really a cook deigns to fix the screw-up. Takes him 10 minutes, and it looks like he's taking his sweet time because nothing else is being made and they are cleaning up to close, preparing no other food. He throws it on the counter. She walks over with it (still not labeled, Thanks!) puts it in the bag, and tells me my total. No "sorry", "this won't happen again", or "what can we do to make this right." If you want to be respected as a customer, have your requests honored, and avoid anaphylactic shock avoid at all costs.

Love it!!!! Best and cleanest sushi place in the area.

Fun evening. Lovely interior. Friendly staff. If you haven't had hibachi before, definitely give it a try. I think our hibachi chef was a little less experienced than we've had in other places- his knife skills were a little uneven. The shrimp was cooked perfectly, everything was well flavored. Steak was a little chewy. My 11 year old son ate every crumb on his plate.

We have been here on multiple occasions for Sushi and have not been disappointed. Considering the location (in a land-locked State), the sushi is great, and probably much better than another Japanese restaurant nearby that was a disappointment. Creatively presented sushi and service is good - consistently. Recommend dining here!

Hibachi. I was never a fan. But when I went to go visit my bro at his new digs, I wasn't left with many options. Outback. Chili's. Fridays. Red Robin's... Can I please step away from the chains?? So when I saw this on yelp, and with the knowledge that at least my bro and mom like hibachi, I figured I'd suck it up and give it a try... When we entered, it was hibachi as usual on the left and a sushi bar/booth seating on the right side. Since we were only a party of 4, we were sat with a large party that was celebrating someone's birthday (apparently something that's really popular at this restaurant). After perusing the menu (which had a wide variety of selections), I ended up just asking if I could have sushi and forgo the hibachi while the rest of my fam got the hibachi. Sooo glad I did. I'm not sure what everyone else is talking about here, but I thought the food from the hibachi was terrible. (My mom sat next to me so I was able to taste everything she got). With my extremely low tolerance for salt, I felt like all the food was seriously just oozing and oozing salt after being smothered with soy sauce. The rice was inedible from the salt, as was the noodles. Strangely, the chicken was apparently (as told by my bro and his gf) extremely bland and dry from being overcooked. And the lobster was pretty hard after being overcooked as well. If I had actually gotten this food, I'm pretty sure I would have left starving. Fortunately, the sushi that I ordered was decent (surprising to me considering we were in the middle of PA). I had the Mizu special which came with 2 eel, 2 salmon, yellowtail and a spicy tun roll and everything was all pretty good [for the area]. Most of all, the service was pretty on top. When I spilled my drink and my glass shattered everywhere, a very nice man (maybe the manager?) came over to me and asked what he could do for me. No one made me feel bad. No one gave me an attitude. And I was able to replace my drink and sushi plate at no charge.

I have been here serval times and have had a wonderful experience each time. I love Hibachi & this is probably the best Hibachi place in the area. Not only do you get rice with your dinner, but noodles as well! The menu selection is great & the staff is always entertaining. Always plenty of sake to go around the table. This is a great place to celebrate birthdays or other, special events. They will even hold a birthday cake for you in the back. The place is clean & very large - so wait times aren't terrible if you don't have a reservation. I would suggest a reservation if it's a weekend evening and you have a larger party. Also, their lunch menu is just a smaller portion of their dinner menu and very reasonably priced (around $7). It's a great, quick takeout option for the office.
(5)Scott J.
In town on business. Jill att the bar was nice and helpful and the food was great.
(4)Michelle D.
Brought my kids here for their first hibachi experience. It was hilarious. We had a good time! The wait staff was very responsive. The portions were generous and delicious. Can't say enough about this place. Highly recommended!
(5)Gerard D.
Mizu quickly became my favorite sushi place in WB.
(5)Rob M.
Sat at the sushi bar for the second time and for the second the food was awesome and the service was great. This is my second favorite sushi place now.
(5)Kim H.
This was my second visit. I had a very pleasant first visit, but this time was just ok. I'm a vegetarian and I find it very disgusting when I find fish eggs in my veggie sushi. I feel like they sushi chefs do not clean their area as well as they should when this happens. My husband had the sashimi and it was just ok as well. There were only about 5 other tables besides ours and the service was extremely slow. It's not like they were short on staff. There were plenty of servers standing around.
(3)Linda S.
By far our favorite sushi place! We love it there! Food is fabulous, great staff and great atmosphere! You will not be sorry.... yum!!
(5)Lucia M.
Really above average with attentive service. Atmosphere would have been average but it was FREEEZING. Never ate sushi in a winter coat before. Maybe wait til spring to before you check it out, or wear your astronaut underwear. Transfriendly B+ yea no problems jsut not super all about it
(4)Chris W.
Fun time. Good service and quality.

In a pinch, fairly late on a Saturday night returning from Scranton, me and two friends took a gamble and checked this place out. My one friend who is deathly allergic to fish (but apparently loves to tempt fate by going to a sushi restaurant?!) certainly did put our waitress to the test, but she did a great job of cheerfully bearing with us through several trips to the kitchen to ask the chef to make sure sauces and surfaces would be safe. We all had a seaweed salad to start which was very generous in size, served over thin spears of cucumber, which was nice. We all had at least two rolls and I was pleased with the freshness, creativity and flavor of my rolls as were my companions. No it was not the MOST mindblowing sushi ever. But considering where we were, it was a damn satisfying meal, clean, superb-helpful-patient service and considering we fed three people heartily for under $60 - great value too! Not disappointed!
(4)Peter M.
The BEST sushi in the area. Very clean restaurant with great service and upscale atmosphere. I absolutely detest hibachi in general, so I will not even consider this a part of my review other than to say it is on the left side of the restaurant as you walk in. (Whew, thank goodness we got THAT out of the way!) This is a remodeled Bennigan's, so if you're familiar with that restaurant chain, you know the general size. There is a large central bar with sushi on one side and beverages on the other. The sushi chefs are out in the open behind the bar and you can watch them prep the food. Booths surround the bar and can seat six people comfortably. The HVAC system is unbalanced due to the hibachi exhaust hoods and creates a highly negative pressure environment. As such, whenever someone opens the door the outside air rushes in. This can make it a little chilly on winter nights when its busy. The sushi is to die for. It is very fresh and the rolls are huge. My favorite is the Yuki roll which is a shrimp tempura roll topped with tuna and spicy crab finished with spicy special sauce. Their sweet potato roll is also delicious.I always order gyoza with the meal and its very good here and a good portion. Mizu is my go-to place for sushi when I really want the good stuff. The prices are a little higher than others in the area, but with sushi you get what you pay for.
(5)Ray E.
This place was way better then we were expecting a sushi place in this area to be. It was good quality sushi, nice presentation, good service and some really well made cocktail/martini specials!
(5)Isaque F.
The best sushi and sashimi I've had in the area. The staff is extremely friendly and can't wait to go back and try some more of the stuff on their menu
(5)Manzana Z.
I don't like the Sushi here, but their Hibachi is so great--especially for shirmp and lobster! You could not wait for eating them!

Stopped at Mizu Sushi Hibachi on the spur of the moment as we left the Interstate to grab something quick. My wife saw the sign and restaurant and so we decided to give it a try, but with great trepidation - sushi in the middle of the state just off an Interstate? Risky we thought. We thought wrong. It was perhaps the best sushi we've had in recent years. A Spicy Tuna Roll was very fresh, lightly spicy, with very flavorful tuna. The California Roll was also exceptionally fresh, great flavor, and nicely wrapped. We had stopped for the hibachi grill though, thinking the sushi might not be great, so we only ordered the two simplest rolls. We walked by the sushi bar and it was all very bright, looked fresh and was very busy for Easter Sunday. The soup and salad were good, pretty typical, though the salad also had a bit of red sweet pepper. We ordered the hibachi meal, I had the steak, my wife the steak and chicken mixed. (Plenty to take home as leftovers by the way.) The fried rice was well done, with some fresh onions and such, good seasoning, two fried eggs done in the rice. The grilled vegetables were more typical of a fresh stir-fry than most hibachi places we've been - onions, zucchini, broccoli, and mushrooms were perfect, just done, and seasoned well with light sauce, a bit of butter to brown, and some sesame seeds. The steak and chicken were both prepared as ordered (steak medium rare), and were also seasoned lightly. The noodles were a surprise, and were the only bland part of the meal. I think it may be getting 5 stars rather than 4 because we were so delighted by a place while traveling, but also because the service was outstanding, two or three people involved, plus the cook at the hibachi table was entertaining, without being overboard (the one at the table with kids was way overboard, and they were having a great time!) so it showed some judgment which was nice. They said they had been open only three weeks, and they already had all of the details well in hand. Highly recommended.
(5)Michael P.
I went to this place because I was in the mood for hibachi in the middle of PA. The portions are bird size compared to locations I've been to in NJ and MD. If I am paying 25 dollars for my entree you have to fill up my plate, during my meal I was stealing my wife's fried rice. If I am in the area next time I will hit the local McDonalds :) instead.
(2)Catherine D.
Nice looking interior, however the sushi was bland. Could use some kick, like cucumber or avocado in the rolls...neither of which were in any we ordered. Never realized they made such a difference. Even the wasabi didn't help. No umph, just boring.
(2)rosc i.
First time dining at Mizu, the food at the Hibachi was top notch, perfectly seasoned and portions were just perfect to fill me up but not be completely bloated. For Wilkes Barre, this place is first class, and by far a great restaurant for this area. You won't find much else better, except maybe the Superking buffet next door! Really nice experience over all and very impressed with the flavors, price and quality.
(5)Ben S.
I was in town two weeks ago to visit my parents and stopped by Mizu based on the previous reviews on yelp. I was very optimistic based on Peter M.'s review that stated this was "the best sushi in the area", but I was VERY disappointed. I ordered a rainbow roll, spicy tuna roll and salmon/ avocado roll and all were slighly better than super market quality. Honestly, I would have preferred Wegman's sushi instead of Mizu. I've had sushi all over the world and this sushi is generic at best. I would really like to rate this place 2.5 stars, but don't have the option. If you want good sushi in the NEPA area, go to the sushi bar in the Mohegan Sun.
(3)Matt D.
Not bad for the area. Service is a bit too "upbeat", but good menu, everything we ordered was well prepared and fresh (only sushi) Excited to try Katana as a contrast, but due to better business hours, we might wind up at Mizu again.
(4)John H.
The newest Japanese restaurant in the Wyoming Valley is certainly the largest. The 7,000 sq. ft. location used to house a Bennigans. The remodel is very nice. Now, the right side of the building is a huge sushi bar. The left side of the building is the hibachi room, including 12 hibachi grills/tables. At the back of the room is a private room with 2 more hibachi grills/tables (and a flat screen tv). For some reason, the hibachi dining room was down right cold. I didn't feel a draft from the doors or windows, so it must have been the overhead vents causing a draft. It wasn't just chilly, it was cold. The sushi menu is large and the hibachi menu also offers choices not available at all hibachi joints: tuna, salmon, vegetarian, lobster and red snapper. Combos are available, as are children's hibachi dinners. The other interesting thing is that the meals include (of course) your shrimp appetizer, soup, salad and vegetable, but also come with rice AND yaki soba noodles. The prices are reasonable. Hibachi dinners range from $14 for vegetarian up to $26 for twin lobster tails. The sushi prices are also not bad ($4.50 for a tuna roll). There are, of course, also non-sushi and non-hibachi Japanese dinners. Large semi-circle booths are along the walls in both the sushi bar and dining room. The staff was friendly and attentive. Our hibachi chef, "Harry", was polite and kept asking us if we needed anything else, as well as, how everything was. The meal was different than some other hibachi places. The vegetables were not overcooked, almost just heated up....which I liked. The chicken was very light and not smothered in dark brown soy sauce. The chicken was very tender and not overcooked. Oddly, the most dominant flavor was garlic. There were chunks of garlic visible on the chicken. I love garlic, so this was fine with me. My wife had the tuna, which she asked for rare. She had to yell "too much" to get the chef to stop grilling it and it was slightly overcooked. It was definitely 'medium', not rare. She thought it was still good. Not great. Not bad. Good. She wished that the tuna itself was one large cut, rather than four thinner filets. The tuna rolls were a hit. Can't really screw that up. The only bust of the night was the gyoza. The filling was some sort of vegetable and pork chopped up and mixed together that looked like some odd Japanese stuffing. That did not go over well. For only $5, it was worth a try. Since I'm in a family of sushi lovers, we will definitely be back. The lunch menu looks great (hibachi for $8 or $9--$11 for filet), sushi specials (any 2 rolls for $8, including soup or salad). The very large and noisy dining room makes it a great place for a large group, a loud group, a party, or to take the kids!
(4)Tyler H.
very disappointed with hibachi. portion sizes extremely small. forced to sit right next to strangers even though there were plenty of empty seats. left hungry.
(2)Jeanine M.
I really love their sushi, especially the New York roll with apple and mango! Delicious and strong mai tai. I have never tried the hibachi. I like the late hours and the service is great too.
(4)Greg B.
What a surprise, never thought I would find a restaurant of this type here that would be this good. Being from New York I have become pretty jaded. The only negative I can give it was the salad dressing too sweet for my taste but otherwise a fine place to eat. If your traveling along I81 take a break and stop off here for a meal, it's right off the exit ramp. You'll be happy you stopped.
(5)J. L.
Very friendly hibachi chefs.. 5 stars!!
(5)Ricky C.
Sushi is pretty standard. Hibachi meals are also pretty standard. Oyakodon was great, Agedashi Tofu was molten and delish...really nice dashi here. The Hamachi Kama is other worldly, so far as I can tell the only place in these parts that serves it. Highly recommend this place. PS I love Sapporo even though it's brewed in Canada!
(4)Kevin C.
I LOVE this place! So far, it is the BEST Japanese restaurant in the area. I usually order the hibachi steak. It is flavorful and done perfectly to order by chefs who don't disappoint when it comes to the usual "theatrics". The seafood is fresh and done perfectly, as are the al dente vegetables. Another plus is that they not only give you fried rice, but fried noodles, too! My girlfriend simply loves the sushi and from the little I've tasted, it is wonderful. The atmosphere is typical, but very attractive and CLEAN!! This place is SPOTLESS!!!! Prices are perhaps a tiny bit above status quo, but worth it. All in all, it is a very appetizing experience considering the food and excellent service we have encountered there. Even as I write this, I am craving another trip! Can't wait!

We were weary travelers who could not believe our luck to find Mizu tonight! We were craving sushi and found it to be first rate. If you live in the area and haven't been there all I can say is GO! 5 Stars all the way around!

The four stars are for the sushi bar. The hibachi was just average. The sushi chefs take much care into preparing a presentation and a meal that will leave you completely blown away. You can tell that they take a lot of pride in their preparation and they go above and beyond. My boyfriend is typically more adventurous in his ordering. He recommends the baby octopus (even if it's not on the menu - ask for it), the sashimi deluxe, the hot sake, and anything with the ginger salad dressing! I would recommend the Wonderful roll and the Mizu roll. The only negative is that if you go at night and sit at the sushi bar, the music can be loud and more club-like than you'd expect in a restaurant.

Good Sushi, bad drinks! I stopped at Mizu Sushi Hibachi since it was in the parking lot of the Hilton Garden Inn I was staying at in Wilkes-Barre, PA. Overall, I was impressed with the sushi I ordered and the service was good. For dinner I had one of their special rolls, I think it was called the Aziz but I can't remember. The roll had spicy imitation (unfortunately) crab meat wrapped with rice and topped with tuna and salmon. The sauce on top was excellent. It was the "chef's" special and a mango sauce. I also tried a piece of their California roll which was also very good. The one thing you do not want with your food is one of their "special" drinks. I tried two different drinks off their special menu and they were awful. I actually overheard the bartender laughing and saying she never heard of one of the special drinks from the menu and had no idea how to make it. If you do not know the drinks, you should not be a bartender! If you visit Wilkes-Barre and stay at the Hilton Garden Inn Mizu is not a bad option. You will find almost all of the restaurants close to the hotel are chain restaurants which is really disappointing. So instead of fighting traffic to go to a TGIF, walk over to Mizu for a good selection of sushi.

Traveling to Wilkes Barre...staying at the hotel next door...burrr...cold night...glad Sushi restaurant is next door! I have been to this restaurant on previous travels and it has been great everytime. I am not a fan of hibachi...too much greasy food. BUT, the Sushi is FRESH, mouth watering and delicious!!! Tonight I ordered the regular sushi and substituted the calif. roll for the shrimp tempura roll. I offered to pay more for the switch as every other restaurant does...but when I got the bill I was not charged extra. Very nice... so... I made it up in their tip. I can always judge a good sushi restaurant by the miso soup! If that is good I know their food is good...and their soup was hot and very good! Since I sat at their Large sushi bar, I was able to see all the different dishes being served...everything going out was nicely served and looked great! I also like a large wine glass...not those little glasses that seem more like wine shot glasses and they did have nice size glasses! Service was excellent.

The first time I went it was good. The second time not so good. First the waiter forgot until we asked for the soup and salad that went with our meals. Second I got the sushi and about an hour eating there I was sick from what I can assume was from bad sushi needless to say I'm not eating there. As for the Hibachi I can't say how it is.

Out of sheer boredom with the other local fare, we decided to give Mizu a try last weekend. I'm really glad we did! I've been back three times since then; twice to dine in and once for takeout. All were exceptional. The next trip will be to try the hibachi but it will be hard to forego the sushi which is excellent. The spicy tuna roll was fabulous. Take my word for it, the tempura sweet potato roll should not be missed.

I have Sushi there at least once a week. The staff is very friendly and accomodating. The fish is fresh and the presentation is great! The special rolls are very well done.

Good sushi is hard to find in PA. Mizu is very easy to get to - right off Highland Park exit in Wilkes by Mohegan sun arena (old wachovia). My friends all love their Drinks and I enjoy their Lobster Roll the most.

The restaurant has a great feel and is great for a date or special night out. The place is classy with a sleek design. I have been here now 3 times and all have been trips have been excellent. I have only ever gotten their hibachi and I have found it to be both very entertaining (best show I have been to and I've been to 3 additional hibachi places) and delicious. The menu options for hibachi are pretty large which suited everyones desires. I really liked both the egg drop soup AND the salad with a peanut(?) type dressing that comes with every hibachi meal. Overall the food was great for hibachi and the environment is phenomenal. I would definitely recommend Mizu to friends and family.

This sushi restaurant is located right next door to the Hilton Garden Inn where I was staying. I walked over for dinner. The place was packed and there was a wait for a table - so I opted to sit at the bar. I ordered Miso soup, Edamame, and Sashimi (salmon, smoked salmon, yellowtail, and scallops). The soup and edamame came out first. Both were really good. I quickly devoured them, the the Sashimi came out. It tasted very fresh and I wolfed it down. I requested and received extra pickled ginger. I'd come here again for dinner.

Sushi is great, service is terrible. I keep coming back for the food, but sometimes I'm not sure it's worth it. I am writing this as I sit on a bench waiting for them to finish opening - though their opening time was ten minutes ago. No apologies from the wait staff or management. In addition, it is near impossible to get drink refills, and depending on the wait staffs mood have a conversation over the incredibly loud music (which gets turned up and down three to four times an hour). In short - their great sushi saves them. If all you care about is good food, you may enjoy Mizu. If you require both good food and at least mediocre service then you're probably out of luck. Their bento boxes are pretty good too - but the hibachi is mediocre.

Located in the Wilkes-Barre Township Marketplace with other businesses including Walmart and Red Robin. I stopped in for dinner on a Tuesday and Mizu was not crowded. Went with an Eel Avocado, Philadelphia, and Spicy Tuna roll. The Eel Avocado was just warm enough and not overpowering. For a regular roll the Philadelphia and Spicy Tuna were bigger than average. The Philadelphia was perfect, but the Spicy Tuna could have used a bit more kick. The plating was nicer then most Sushi restaurants I've visited. Overall, I found the sushi to be good but average. This is sushi I can get where I live every day. I bump this back to a four star location as I like interior (the Sushi Bar is rather large), I was seated quickly, and the service was fast. They have amazing napkins that are large and durable. The bathrooms were also very clean. I think next time I might try some of the Hibachi or the Special Rolls to get a better feel for the food.

Eh, it was ok. Table was dirty when we sat down. Server was robotic. Food was ok, but nothing special. Price was average. I think I like Mirakuya better, although this place is very similar.

I rarely write less than complimentary reviews. Having the contents of a sprite with ice and an imported beer poured over me ...granted an accident, the actions of the staff and the accident prone waitress afterwards added insult to injury. Having to ask to drinks after the appetizer was brought out? Then noticing that I wasn't comped for anything... well last staw. The food, I won't comment because I was already upset from the spill and tainted my opinion. The manager must have noticed me writing this review and quickly offer a discount. A bit late. The proper response was to offer to comp my meal or entree from the get go. To make sure the service did not fail. To offer incentive to come back. Epic fail.

We were staying nearby on a recent snowboarding trip and were craving for some delicious hibachi. Despite the big snow storm blowing around outside, Mizu was still packed with patrons for Valentines Day. Even though we carried out our hibachi order, the service was still great; the host was very helpful in getting our carry out order placed and us out the door quickly! Our food was neatly packed for us and still hot and delicious when we got back to our hotel :)

This is first post after eating a lot food at restaurants reviewed by yelp... Sushi was decent. The eel rolls had minimal amount of eel. Service is ordinary But the diarrhea was extraordinary... Within 30 mins of finishing my dinner the cramping and diarrhea happened. My buddy who had the same rolls as i did also had stomach cramping but his stomach is tougher than mine Either some employee didn't wash their hands or the tuna or shrimp or whatever is contaminated. When is comes to raw seafood...be careful where you eat.

I have mixed feelings on Mizu. One one hand, the sushi and hibatchi are really good but the staff is awful! I've been to Mizu maybe 4 times and every single time I have felt like the workers were annoyed about being there and about talking to me or answering any questions and they try to push people out quickly. Every time I have been there someone at my table also had an order messed up. One time we ordered something, didn't get it and then still got charged for it and it was a huge deal to them that they had to take it off the bill and they made it known to us that we were being a huge inconvenience. I'm sure I will end up here again sometime but only if other people want to go.

I've only sat at the sushi bar. This place is overrated. The rolls they make are small and overpriced compared to other sushi places in the area. They taste alright...nothing spectacular. The service is fine, usually pretty attentive, but the sushi chefs are downright rude. I went there the other night with a friend while running errands in the area, and he got hibachi chicken. He said it was really good. But I go for the sushi, and there's definitely better in the area.

Very nice. RICKY behind the bar is a real artist with the presentation. As you can see in my pictures. I have no idea what that was called but if I was a yung guy and wanted to impress a date. I would order that. My normal run of the mill simp k e rolls where just as I expected. Yumi. They hit my Sushi spot. Got to run now.

Ordered valentine roll (spicy tuna with crunch and tuna on top , white tuna sushi and house salad The roll, which should have been crunchy, was not :( So I was disappointed about that. The white tuna sushi was ok. I have had better grade sushi for the same price. Lastly, the service was, well, kinda shoddy. I called to place an order (above) for pick up. When I asked for the "house salad" (which was $6) she said "house salad with ginger dressing?" I said "Yes, please put the dressing on the side." Upon picking up the order she gave me what they should have been embarrassed to serve! It was a small plastic container filled with 3 pieces of lettuce a grape tomato and one cucumber!!! She mistakenly gave me the "garden salad" which was $2.50 (which was overpriced for what she gave me). On a plus side the ginger dressing was delic!

I love Mizu because they are the best Hibachi in the area. Sushi is a close second but they definitely kill it with their hibachi. I have had their filet and fried rice. Out of this world.

We've always loved coming to Mizu due to the ambiance and awesome food. The past few experiences have been awful. Tonight we ordered 80 dollars worth of sushi, no refills on drinks. Not a single check in from the waitress. The sushi chef brought us our food. Our dessert was the lava cake- cold inside. Had to ask for another and it still wasn't comped. So disappointed. Meanwhile the owner or manager or whoever he is sat at the bar talking to one couple the entire hour. Our waitress didn't even say thank you, just threw the bill at us. I'll have a hard time returning here.
