Mexican Cuisine
If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.
Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.
Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.

Stopped by for lunch with a friend. It was pretty packed, which is a good sign. The decor is pretty neat, the restaurant is clean, and there's outside seating in the summer. It's really the perfect location for us Wilkes-Barre City dwellers. The food and the service were just okay, though. The rice was dry and flavorless, the beans were kind of watery, and the chips and salsa were nothing special. I enjoyed the grilled chicken - it had a salty, lime? marinade, which made it very tender. As for service - we waited 20 minutes from the time we were finished eating to get boxes and our check, and we had to ask for silverware. I'm chalking most of this up to the lunch rush, but I still think there are better places for mexican in the area - that said, this is a decent spot to get your frijoles fix during lunch hour.

Great casual Mexican restaurant right in downtown WB! My co-worker gave this place rave reviews so I decided to give it a try. I was not disappointed. I had the Fiesta Salad with chicken. Grilled chicken, tomato, onion on lettuce in an edible bowl with lots of cilantro! YUM! I love cilantro! Topped with guacamole and sour cream. Very filling and very tasty. The house chips and salsa are wonderful too! They give you some even with take outs. The staff are incredibly friendly and the atmosphere is tasteful and welcoming. I could have used an ice cold corona or a margarita today with my salad, maybe they will get a liquor license. I'm pretty sure its BYOB, have to remember that for next time. And there will be a next time.....soon`

Best Tacos Ever! I tried this place on a tip from a friend, and to be honest it surpassed my expectations. Our server was knowledgeable of the dishes and was able to help make decisions on the type of food we might have wanted to try. The nacho salsa has just enough bite to be enjoyable and not spice you out before the main meal. I ordered the Carne Asada Tacos and was extremely pleased with my selection. Without fail, I will be coming back for another choice from this menu. Thank you El Zocalo for a wonderful meal and dining experience. 4 stars of 5 only because I haven't tried other items on the menu yet, but I have a feeling this will go up very soon.

Really delicious, fresh food. Servings are quite generous. The spicy pork burrito was incredible, and the tacos, quesadilla and sides were great. Really good fresh guacamole. The refried beans were definitely not from a can. Will be getting takeout from here again ASAP.

Fresh food. Great service. Tastefully decorated. Right on the circle in the center of town. This place is a must. It's just like being in a really, really high classed restaurant in Mexico without the exorbitant prices!

Best Mexican restaurant I've tasted in Wilkes barre, service was very friendly and only Waite about 10-15 for my good they did refill our tortillas only issue is the salsa is very cold because they keep it refrigerated maybe if it was a little warmer but still the restaurant was very good I would def recommend it

Well prepared dishes with fresh ingredients and the right amount of spice. My chorizo burrito was poppin' (nuf sed). Good portions with polite and accommodating staff made for a pleasurable eating experience. The artwork on the wall was super ill. The Mexican cultural super heroes with a heritage informed motif was spot on. Muey Bueno!

I wet here with my boyfriend and his forger on a Saturday night. It was not busy at all so we weren't expecting superior quality food. Upon receiving our orders, our minds wee changed. I ordered the chicken fiesta salad. It was served in a crispy fresh tortilla "bowl" and was filled with lots of fresh lettuce, pico de gallo, cilantro, grilled chicken and great guacamole. My boyfriend's fajitas carnitas were delicious as well and came with generous portions of rice, beans, grilled veggies and of course the sizzlin meat. His brother ordered the carne esata tacos and was very happy as well. Definitely give this place a try- they do take out and delivery so although the atmosphere isn't the best, you can still try their food!

I've had authentic Mexican food in the past and this is the best I have tried in this area. The steak tacos are very good. Prices are great, the place is clean and the servers and administrators are great.

They start you off with complementary chips and salsa They were excellent! As an appetizer we had the Gyro Torta, I didn't really like it. For my main dish I picked the pick four for $8.95 :-) I got a beef crunchy taco... Perfect. a chicken quesadilla... Excellent a chicken enchilada... Didn't like very much and I Mexican rice which was wonderful! For dessert I got tres leches it was superb! The food was good, the service was good, I would definitely go again!

Our office just ordered lunch from here and it was outstanding! The portions are great and so is the price. i had a combo of taco, quesadilla, and rice, and it was all tasty and filling. I hope we order from here more often. kudos to a great business!

The food here is definitely pretty good and the portions are very large. I had the carne asada tacos...they put guacamole on them so I didn't feel it was that authentic but they were filled with meat...two would have been plenty for sure (I ate all three). Would have probable given four stars but the place was soooo cold. I mean every time the door opens a huge blast of cold air gets in. So I don't recommend for the winter unless you do takeout and live close (Mexican takeout deteriorates very fast into mush).
