So I enjoy sushi a lot, so I've had it at numerous restaurants within the Valley. Buffets, Wegmans, etc. After seeing the rave reviews on yelp I thought I would stop by this place on the square. Coming up to it, I saw it's a small restaurant, probably a nice place to sit down and have lunch but not ideal for a formal dinner. I ordered take out which I think is the ideal thing to do in small restaurants, especially because I don't really like the square. I ordered $60 of sushi to see how it was - I ordered california roll, shrimp tampura, snow crab, and spicy shrimp rolls. I took it home where I split the sushi with my boyfriend, and we also had left overs. My first bite I was shocked by how good it tasted. The sushi was warm, and extremely fresh tasting. It's definitely the best sushi I've had, by a long shot. It tastes fresh and authentic. Since that day I've come back and they're always consistent with their quality. I've never been disappointed. I don't make too much money so I can't afford to eat here all the time, but if I did I'd probably be eating sushi from here at least once a week. For the record, the other sushi joints I've been to weren't served by japanese people. This place is authentic japanese - you can hear the hostess speaking japanese with the cooks and her kids which are sometimes in the restaurant. It's nice to see an authentic japanese restaurant in wilkes barre. If you love sushi, check it out.. you won't be disappointed! Try their shrimp tampura, it's the BOMB.

Lunch specials are great! Sushi is reasonably priced and better than another nearby sushi restaurant. Plus the staff is really friendly. My boyfriend and I were sitting at the sushi bar and the chefs were very nice and chatted with us a bit. Then even made us a cute little appetizer at no charge. This is definitely my new go-to place for sushi!

Huge fan of the Spicy Kani roll. Service is great - very pleasant and welcoming. The food is great. Reasonably priced and great ambiance. Cannot emphasize enough how friendly the staff is and how good the food is.

I'm a huge fan of sushi and Akeno! Super fresh and never hit or miss like some of the places in our area. Great service and very friendly. One of my favorite places to have dinner in Wilkes barre.

Akeno Sushi is the best sushi restaurant near Wilkes-Barre! Their specialty rolls are divine. The chef puts so much time and effort into each platter. There's so many to choose from, and they're all unique. You almost don't want to eat it because it looks like such a work of art! But then you remember how delicious it is and just devour it. Sushi is out of this world and their other platters are also always a delight. My favorite is their crab fried rice. The "secret" sauce is so good. The waitress is always super friendly too! A must-stop while in the Barre!

I have gone here many times for lunch I have yet to have anything that was subpar the prices are reasonable and the lunch special prices are great I try to get lunch from here at least every other week

Got the chicken teriyaki and it sucks. The vegetables were under done and nothing, I repeat NOTHING was grilled at all! The chicken looks and tastes like "fake" processed chicken. My first and LAST time I ever go there. I now understand why there is never anybody there.

Excellent service and tasty fresh sushi. I would recommend the double tuna roll or the spicy roll combo. The only concern is the location and lack of saki. Definitely great sushi!

Went to Wilkes-Barre for the weekend. Husband wanted to go to a gun show I get sushi, that's the deal. Based on the Yelp reviews I picked Akeno Sushi. I am so glad I did as everything was great. We are total stupid tourists when it comes to somethings and BYOB we did not know about. That was the only down side to the meal as a nice drink would have hit the spot. We had 2 specialty rolls and 2 regular rolls. I cannot remember what the name of them but they had the peppered whitefish in or on them. Other 2 were shrimp tempura and a salmon roll. Since I didnt over do it on the sushi we shared the fried cheesecake for dessert, it was delish but I could have used a sauce of some sort. All and all worth the trip.

The smell when came in was of funky oil, so we immediately figured it was a Chinese Sushi joint, which is rarely that great, although sometimes it seems they try. We got the duck appetizer which seemed like the bought in NYC Chinatown a week ago, soggy and tasteless. The fish was not fishy, which is good because it hasn't gone bad, but it was sliced very thin and was difficult to taste. The presentation showed they were trying. The people were nice.

Seriously so so so good. I have eaten here about 20 times now, at least and have never once had a bad experience. I am SUPER PICKY about sushi as well as many of my friends who have eaten sushi everywhere in the valley and we're all HOOKED! FANTASTIC service, super fresh, great special rolls. Lunch specials that will leave you stuffed for very little cash. DO NOT BOTHER GOING ANYWHERE ELSE!

I've been here numerous times and have never had a bad experience. One of the best sushi restaurants in NEPA. They have a large selection of specialty rolls along with fantastic lunch specials. I cannot emphasize how good the food is and how incredibly wonderful the staff is!

Really awesome place, probably more 4.5 stars than 4. Just some small touches that keep it from 5, but all the food was amazing and I will definitely be back. Diverse and unique selection of rolls and everything was very fresh. Waitress was very friendly also. All around great experience.
