Husband took me on a date, coldest night this winter, atmosphere was cozy, our waitress, Sadie, was super friendly and attentive. The coffee was magnificent. Our steaks, the center cut sirloin, which was new to the menu had excellent flavor. His was sent back to make a little more done, but delicious none the less. Sweet potato fries were great, as well as the salad and dressing. Overall, a great experience.

I was in the Wellsboro area this weekend with a friend. We stayed at the lovely Penn Wells hotel. Across from the hotel is The Steakhouse, which allegedly has the best steaks in the area...so off we went at 8 pm. We arrived to a dark, humid, musty, poorly decorated, much-in-need-of-renovating, dining room. We were promptly greeted by a very nice hostess and she was completely open to allowing us choose our own table...the place was empty save one table of approximately 8 people. Our waitress came over right away and took our drink order. She delivered our wine and we placed our order. We both ordered the larger NY strip, rare, with grilled mushrooms. My friend also ordered a baked potato. The waitress told us our dinners would be out in five minutes. I stopped her at that point and asked her what their definition of rare is. She told me it is cold in the middle and only takes 3-4 minutes to cook. I told her that is not what rare is, that is raw. I told her I wanted it just warm in the middle with a red center. She told me that was their version of medium rare. We changed our temperatures. The steaks came out approximately 15 minutes later. My friend tried his potato first and mentioned that it tasted like it was baked the day before. Just as he did that the waitress walked by and he asked her when the potato had been baked. She informed him it was baked that day at 8 am...10.5 hours previous to arriving at our table. He sent it back. We then tried our mushrooms, they were equally as horrible. We cut into our steaks and they were on the verge of being well done and were VERY dry...absolutely no juices flowing out of them. Meanwhile, what appeared to be the manager, was busy trying to impress the group of southern females at the table of 8 with a concoction of Goldschlager and Amaretto...something I have never seen anyone over the age of 20 drinking. He was too busy pouring free alcohol down their throats to even acknowledge our presence in his establishment. This place was horrible. The only reason people say it is the best steakhouse in town is because it is the ONLY steakhouse in town. I do not recommend anyone spending their money here. The prices are ridiculous for the low quality. If you are in the mood for a steak, travel out of Wellsboro.

This is a nice place. Super friendly staff and clean place. The steak was just so so. It was missing flavor (tasted watery, like it went from frozen to hot).

The chicken parm was so overcooked it tasted like leather! They made a replacement and it was just as aweful! Our daughters meatball was worse than wet dog food! Honestly wouldn't even feed it to our dogs! Their prices are PLAIN NUTS!

Best meal of the week! Chicken Marcela was worthy of praise! We had good service and lots of fresh bread, baked sweet potatoes and salad. Nice end to our vacation. This was a great steak house. Give a try but you might want to make a reservation to hold your table.

The prime rib is a excellent but the coleslaw was a lot of liquid is probably not homemade and neither is the soup. The service is slow and we waited a long time for our check.

I ordered the chicken cutlet sandwich and my husband had the porterhouse steak. The chicken looked pinkish and tasted awful so I didn't even have more than a bite. My husband liked his steak. We also got mozzarella sticks to start but they were so salty they were impossible to enjoy. This area did not have a lot of highly rated restaurants so we took our chance here... Next time we will do more research beforehand.

I've been here twice and it was good both times! The service is friendly, they bring waters directly after they seat you before taking drink/appetizer orders. The food is always prompt and hot.

A good meal! Very casual, laid back, but with friendly, professional service. We ordered the onion rings appetizer, and could have had a few more for the price. Dinner more than made up for it, though. I had a special, the "drunken cowboy", which was a rib eye marinated. Very good. My wife had the porterhouse, which was equally tasty. Both were cooked to order, and were very large portions. Appropriately priced for a steakhouse- just under $100 (plus tip) for the two of us to split an appetizer, and our dinners came with a decent salad and two other sides. Also included in that price were three drinks. All-around, good meal, and we left stuffed and happy.

Went here on a Tuesday night and we were quickly seated. The decor is casual with muted lighting and free standing tables (no booths). Our waitress, Tiffany, was a little snooty and acted like she was too pressured to take much time with us, even though she only had a few tables. I had to ask her twice for an iced tea, and never got the refill of my water that she promised. We also heard her being a little snippy with an elderly gentleman at the next table. My wife and I both ordered the fried chicken (4 small pieces for $16.99 on special!) and jalapeño poppers. Our salads, the bread, chicken, and peppers were all very tasty, but the steak fries were undercooked. Overall, our food was good, but the smallish portions left us wanting more, and we thought the prices were a little high. And we were really displeased with our server's abrasive mannerism. I would rate this place 3 1/2 stars, points given for tasty food, points taken away for poor service, smallish portions, and high prices.

We went to the Steak House this past weekend while in wellsboro for STPR. The service was great! The waitress was very attentive. We each had steaks (I got the Filet Mignon & he got the New York Strip) and they were made just how we ordered. My fiancee tried the bourbon butter on his steak and it was definitely a tasty addition! We got the clam strips for an appetizer, they were out in minutes! Very good, but we ate them too quickly. I got the smaller 7oz steak which was perfect sizing with my salad and baked potato. I was stuffed before I finished the meal. The New York Strip was huge, and my fiancee loved it! While we only come here once a year and would like to try different places, we will definitely put this in our list to return to. TIP: Only open for dinner, 5pm-9pm Monday through Saturday.

Del Monico steak was tasteless, mushrooms were canned and no side salad available. Waitress kept forgetting to bring us things and my wife's French fries were cold and stale. They also never offered us a dessert menu.

I live 2.5 hours away and I would drive there just for the Black Diamond steak. My wife and I go to Wellsboro every fall to see the fall season at the canyon and getting a steak here is a must. My wife prefers it in the salad.

Love the black diamond steak here. Service is generally good but have had some less than friendly waitresses before. Still one of the best places to eat in wellsboro.
