After searching high and low and several states for a "tea party" bridal shower spot, us bridesmaids found this place! The manager was beyond helpful, patient and accommodating all 12 of us for a bash for 4 hours for a luncheon. The space provided class, elegance, privacy and a touch of British influence to get us into character. We sat perfectly in a little nook right behind the register that's usually set aside for parties like us. We were able to decorate the table appropriately in plenty of time before the tardy bride arrived. Good thing the parking lot was big enough in the complex - it filled up fast! Altering our length of stay was made flexible to accommodate us, and we graciously thanked them. Wonderful staff and cooking crew! We had a lovely peach and mango tea, a white tea and a chai yea to share amongst us and we eat got four finger sandwiches and petit fours for dessert. Since we had five girls that were vegan, they were able to prepare for them special meatless selections which didn't make you miss meat! We picked from a wide variety of scones for our tea and enjoyed sampling what they other opted for. The antique china set off the antique tea cup party favor I was responsible for, and made us feel we took a piece of the china home with us. Tasty, savory, and memorable was our whole afternoon! The now newly weds recently frequented this place again and couldn't have been happier. Great find!

Lovely! I recently met up with an old friend that I have not seen in years. We decided to meet for lunch to catch up at Taste of Britain. I made a reservation for 1:30 PM and I am glad that I did. It was a full house. Our server was very sweet and professional. When she told us the specials, my friend and I mentioned how we went to elementary and high school together and have not really seen each other socially for many years. She told us Taste of Britain is a good place for great food and conversation - and it is! We ordered our lunch and stayed for two and one half hours! Thankfully, no one was waiting for our table! (Though it was filling up again as it was now tea time). Our Blue Salads with Grilled Chicken were yummy and of course, the scones were out of this world. Highly recommended.

Delicately prepared British style sandwiches. Really nice. I also love the little shop they have where they sell all kinds of little British snacks. I give a 4 start just because it is a tiny bit expensive but so worth it.

This was my second visit to the cozy, countryside decor reminiscent of British tea time for the casually dressed citizens. So worth the 30 mins drive from S. Philly to Wayne for $18 full tea service. Array selection of teas to tickle your tongue. Every month special teas and the scone of the month appears. Friendly service accompanied by a three tier tower of goodness included from the top, an assortment of desserts, mid level with scones and three sauces and lastly, assorted chef's choice tea sandwiches. On both occasions the tea sandwiches were different and pleasing to the senses. My friends and I have decided to gather for every other month to enjoy high tea!

We made a reservation for four on a Sat morning at 10:40am- I came from center city so there was some traffic (took around 45 min). There's free parking in the shopping center- place is located in a corner- look for the sign with the tea cup. We got two sets of the "full afternoon tea". This comes with two teas (your choice) and a selection of 8 Tea Sandwiches plus scones (I picked the buttermilk) with clotted cream and lemon Curd. There was also an assortment of mini pastries (cake, strawberry, brownie). Since there was 4 of us, 2 of us picked teas that came with this set and the other 2 got their own tea pots as well. I picked the honey ginger tea- delicious! We also got the pate (chicken liver served with toast) and sausage rolls (this came with homemade mustard- NOM). I LOVED the pate- creamy and delicious. The pate is pretty filling so be careful not to eat too much...sharing is caring! The sausage rolls are basically sausage wrapped in pastries- comes in two (shareable for 4 people just cut the 2 in halfs- decent amount). This place is quaint and super cute! I really liked our server, she was super sweet and made sure that our tea pots were filled with hot water and such. I will def come back to try the other dishes on the menu and to have high tea with my friends!!

I came here to celebrate Mothers Day for my mom. We've been to the Four Season's afternoon tea and after seeing another reviewer review, who compared the two stating this was better, we had to try this place! Plus, we live within 10 minutes and had never been. When we arrived, we were seated in the back room. A bachelor party of 10 gals were in the room as well. Since it was out first time, I asked to be in the main room, but they had no open tables. I was disappointed and felt like we were intruding the bachelor party. Thankfully, 20 min later, the party left and we had the room to ourself for the rest of the time, which made up for my disappointment. I would still ask to sit in the main room, if it's your first time. But if you want a more intimate/quieter space, maybe request the back (small) room. We got chicken liver pate with toast, and 3 Full afternoon tea for $18/each. We got a pot of lavender chamomile tea, which was great! There's a scone of the month, which was a chocolate chip/coconut scone, which we shared along with the lemon scone and a cherry almond scone. The accompaniments were all great; berry jam, lemon curd and clotted cream! Overall, it was a great experience & well worth the price (& free parking!)! I'd go back, now that the Four Seasons is closing for the next 2 years. BUT I wouldn't say this place was better than the $35/afternoon tea at the Four Seasons. It's just a different experience.

After living in the area for years, I'm not sure why I haven't discovered this little gem until now. I had lunch here on a Wednesday afternoon with three other girlfriends. The restaurant is so quaint and adorable, and it made me feel like I was being transported to a restaurant in Europe! Loved the decor too -- there were beautiful drapes, china hanging on the walls, and photos of the British Royal Family. I was the first to arrive and was promptly seated. For a Wed afternoon, this place was packed, so do remember to make reservations. Since my friends were running late, I had ample time to look over the extensive menu. The tea selection is quite long, and a bit overwhelming! I decided to go with the Himalayan tea and the Shepherd's pie for my meal. The tea was refreshing and the pie was delicious and filling. Presentation was great too. Overall, this restaurant was wonderful -- a nice place to unwind and enjoy lovely conversations with close friends! Prices were fair too. I will definitely be visiting again and again!

This is a cozy little get-away spot that my husband and I love to escape to from Easton, PA. It's about 80mins away, and always a GREAT time and experience. The staff is very friendly and accommodating. Food and Tea is fantastic....you leave feeling relaxed and rejuvenated! :)

This is the way every tea shop should be. The decor is not overly frilly or girly, but is very nice. The tea was wonderful and there were many options. The high tea service was awesome. For the same kind of selection (desserts, sandwiches, and scones with clotted cream, jam, and lemon curd) they charge $18 per person. For similar teas elsewhere I have seen prices of $80-$150 per person. What a great deal!

This place is super cute! Went here with the bestie because we adore tea parties and it was wonderful! We had the afternoon tea which was good. The scones were delicious. I also ordered a chicken pot pie with a curry zucchini and apple soup which was soooo good. (I mixed my soup in with the pie filling, totally recommend you do too lol) My friend had the roastbeef on a croissant which she loved. Our waitress Denise was super pleasant and accomodating as was our hostess who made no qualms about us being late for our reservation. We will definitely be back!

I took my wife here for afternoon tea several times, and it never disappointed. The scones are so good, we usually bought a couple to go at the end of the meal. The staff are always friendly, and the decor is perfect for tea.

Great food, great service, and amazing and authentic British tea. I ordered the chicken pot pie, a tomato soup, and jasmine green tea; all of which were super delicious and full of flavor.

I took my granddaughter here for the two of us to celebrate her eleventh birthday. We were so excited to share a special time together. My granddaughter loves tea and was so excited with all the choices. Our wonderful server helped us make some menu decisions. We decided to share a full tea with an additional scone and pot of tea. We each started with a cup of delicious mushroom soup. We enjoyed everything ! There was even a candle on the dessert which excited my granddaughter. I am sure this tea will always be a wonderful memory for both of us. Her younger sister asked me if I would take her for tea for her birthday in December, and of course I said yes. Looking forward to a return visit.Your review helps others learn about great local businesses. I came here with the wife and one of her friends who was visiting. It was a pretty enjoyable experience and the food was fantastic. We came for brunch, so this review is more geared towards "real food" than those stale sandwiches you get with afternoon tea :) SERVICE: The ambiance actually left much to be desired. It was a bit bare in the dining area, as they could definitely fit more tables in there. My wife would say that it was cute, but to me it just looked old and disheveled and could use some new furniture. Our server was pleasant and helpful, no complaints there. They take reservations as well. FOOD: As I said before, we ordered off the menu instead of doing afternoon tea. I've done "afternoon tea" a few times in the US (NY and ATL), and felt like it really wasn't worth it (especially after trying it in London). Unless you really like the experience of afternoon tea, I highly recommend trying some of the menu items. Our server was admittedly very jealous of our table because we apparently ordered all of the best stuff from the menu. Certainly tasted that way. Alright, let's get down to business. Mushrooms on a Toast - (5/5) - Served as small slices of toasted bread with a dipping sauce. Cheddar and mustard put enough flavor into the creamy sauce to make it interesting. I'm not a mustard guy, so it was tough for me mentally to try this, but it was absolutely delicious. Welsh Rarebit - (5/5) - We weren't really sure what to expect, but we were pleasantly surprised. It was similar to the Mushrooms on a Toast being that the major vehicle was toast, but was distinctly more savory. Croissant Sandwich (Turkey and Cranberry Butter) - (3/5) - I was too stuffed to finish all of the sandwich but it was very large and a decent choice. As with many turkey sandwiches, it was a touch bland, especially when I didn't get a bite with the cranberry butter. The croissant itself was flaky and delicious. OVERALL: I can never bring myself to 5-star a place without going more than once, but this is close. Go on the menu and you'll be happy you did. 4/5

Why this place doesn't have 5 stars overall is beyond me. I came here with my husband for lunch and oh my goodness, we were both is absolute delight after we finished our meals. I had a blue salad-highly recommended- and my husband had the panini. We also both enjoyed a lovely scone, a cherry almond for me and a chocolate chip for hubby. They were too die for!!! Service was quick and friendly. I would highly recommend that you make reservations before you come. It was surprisingly busy for a weekday lunch. We will be returning soon!!

I love this place! The food is delicious, me and my fiancé love coming here to spoil ourselves with some sweets when we get the full afternoon tea! Their scones are always fantastic and warm! A great spot for lunch or afternoon tea!

A Taste of Britain is exactly what the name implies: a cozy tea shop perfect for a leisurely afternoon lunch. When my now grown daughter was in middle school, she went through a tea phase and we visited every tea shop in the Philadelphia region, including the Four Season's afternoon tea. Somehow we missed this little gem, but now that we've found it, Taste of Britain is our favorite spot. On a recent visit, we enjoyed the full tea ($18 ea), which includes tea, tea sandwiches, scones, and miniature desserts. Neither of us had had breakfast, so we also split an order of sausage rolls. The sausage rolls were delish, lean, flavorful sausage encased in puff pastry and served with mustard. And the tea was not only very good, but, unlike most tea shops, generous as well. Our day's selection of sandwiches included a cheddar with chutney, ham, cucumber and cream cheese, and curried chicken salad. Loved the decor, the service, and the food. A wonderful spot to get away from it all.

I gave this a 4 star not because of the place because of the hostess. My daughter and I went here on a rainy Saturday afternoon as I was born and raised in Scotland and I knew I could shop and pick up a few things from home. There were abundance of empty tables when we went in and we decided let's have lunch too. Well the hostess was snotty sorry but that is what she was. Ever feel like Julie Roberts in pretty woman she made us feel that way, we told her two and she replied do you have a reservations in a patronizing way I sad no she said I will see what I can do. She consults her ipad and says I can fit you in, in 45 minutes I commented there are lots of empty tables oh they are reserved. Hmm ok I shopped in the store maybe 15 minutes and only 3 ladies came in for one table. Really. As I was shopping and spent way over $50 she was mumbling under her breath to an other employee about us not having a reservation. This is a little gem tucked away but she needs to come off her high horse, will it stop me from going no I will still go as I do get things from home that I miss.

We just held our second bridal shower at A Taste of Britain (first was in 2011) and had the most fantastic day! We rented the entire venue out on a Sunday and hosted around 25 guests. The day flowed perfectly and the salads, tea sandwiches and scones were a big hit. Sarah and Lisa took great care of us, always around to help, and making sure everything went off with a hitch. But they never once rushed us or made their presence intrusive. They were especially accommodating of the bride's dietary restrictions and made sure her meal was safe and delicious. Highly recommend!

Nice cozy place with some great food and good tea selection. The chicken salad (everything) is to die for. Not exactly what you would find in the UK but close enough. Some of the waitresses are a bit snobby but overall a great place. Note that you will not find true high tea (heavy, usually meat based dish and tea served around 5), but instead afternoon tea (tea sandwiches, scones, pastries, ect.). Also, they have a cute selection of merchandise!

  • Jac T.

Every time we go here, we get the high tea. This includes a scone, tea sandwiches, desserts and tea. It's expensive, but extremely fulling. I'm a vegetarian and they're flexible about making tea sandwiches vegetarian friendly (egg salad, cucumber and cream cheese, etc.) It's a great way to sample different things and get the British experience. You may need a reservation. The service is okay (can be slow) and it's fun picking out the tea. The atmosphere is great and definitely get some English candies to bring home- I recommend Flakes.

We used the Tsste of Britain to cater our daughter 's bridal shower and it was absolutely wonderful. Sarah, our server, was perfect. She was attentive, efficient and knew when things needed to be replenished . I cannot imagine anyone more capable. Everyone applauded her when it was time for her to leave. The food was tasty and plentiful and the tea was hot and delicious. Another reviewer said there was too much food, but I would rather err on the side of too much than have guests who didn't have enough. We can't wait to have another party so we can use them again.

My wife and I stopped in here for lunch one weekday and fortunately I made reservations as the place was packed. It's a relatively small, but charming, place with about 15 tables or so plus a little nook area behind the register for groups. A lot of the patrons that day looked like retired folks or stay-at-home Mom's. People were dressed pretty casually, which was fine with me. There were several kids there that day as well. The food was good. My wife had the tea sandwiches while I had the turkey with cranberry butter on a croissant, and we each had a different scone for desert. The scone was a little dry and I have had better. Unfortunately, the food did not agree with either of us and we did not enjoy the next few hours! With so many other tea rooms in the surrounding area, we'll try some other ones out first before coming back here.

We used A Taste of Britain's catering services for a tea party themed bridal shower. I was very impressed with the appearance and quality of the food, but the quantity that was recommended to us was way too much. We were holding a bridal shower and expecting 40 people, when you call to make the catering order they ask how many people so that they can prepare the appropriate amount of food which makes total sense. However, I don't know what they consider an afternoon tea, but it is not typically a 3 course meal that leaves you too stuffed to even attempt desert. They suggest 1 scone, 8 tea sandwiches, 1 cup of tea and an assortment of about 5 small deserts per person. This is way too much food! The scones are the size of softballs and 8 tea sandwiches is about the equivalent of 2-3 regular sandwiches. Everyone at the bridal shower ate and complimented on how wonderful the food was, but we were left with so many left overs! We recieved 3 trays of sandwiches and have a whole tray and a half of sandwiches left and almost a tray of scones left. Way too much food, we could have saved some money if we had know how outrageous these portions would be. I highly recommend their catering for the quality of the food, however when you are ordering keep in mind how much food they will actually be giving you so you do not end up wasting food or money.

I think that the most of the good reviews here are from people who are in love with the idea of having tea on the Main Line with the girlfriends. I've had tea in other states, and in England, and I've never been bowled over, but this place had to be the least enjoyable. The crustless sandwiches were tasteless, and honestly, for $18, there should have been more on the plate. The scones were huge, but I've had better at Starbuck's. After that much scone, the pastries went home with me. I had them today, and they were as unexciting as the scone. I can buy clotted cream and lemon curd. If I want a good sandwich, I'll go to Panera. They even have tea that will suffice. On the rare occasion that I want a scone, I'll go to Starbuck's. Really! For $18 plus tip, I can find food that is a lot more tasty. Sorry. I just can't buy into all of the wonderfulness of afternoon tea.

So I went here this past weekend for a super low key bachelorette party. Finding it in the shopping center was the first part of my problem :-) But there was ample parking, and it was a beautiful day!! Walking in, the first thing you see are freezers with products, and shelves with more products for sale, not really what I expected. But OK...Took two more steps and I saw my "party" waiting for me (I was running late for the first time ever and was the last one to arrive!) Since I have celiacs, I had checked out the menu online beforehand to see what and if there was anything I could even eat, and figured I would eat at home, and if I wanted could always order a salad or something once I was there. Turns out, they had TWO different kinds of gluten free scones!! We ordered three pots of tea for the table, and shared, which was fine, except I like black tea, and the bachelorette didnt order that. For $18+ a person for a party like ours, we should be able to have more than just three kinds of tea. I think! The reason I am giving three stars is because the first thing I said to the waitress was that I have celiacs, what would she recommend? After checking with the manager, she came back and told me about the two different kinds of scones, the one I chose being a chocolate almond scone, which I thought would be an almond tasting scone with chocolate chips in it. Obviously I was very very wrong!! It was a solid chocolate scone, with a few almond slivers on top, with just a very faint hint of almond flavoring in it as well. And it was dry and not very good. The only saving grace was the butter and strawberry jam I put on top! The main problem I had, was that she brought out this basket of all the scones, with mine sitting right on top of everyone elses! Now if you know anything about celiacs, you dont eat anything that has had the possibility of being contaminated by gluten, let alone seeing that it has been! Really? Did she not understand the liability there? I am not one to cause a problem, so I took it without saying anything, and ate a little moutful from the side that was sticking up in the air, not touching anything. Luckily for me, I didnt get sick from it, but I should have said something. Other than that, it was cute, but really I think it is more appropriate for a little girls fantasy "tea party" party than for anything else. Oh well, I make a delicious cup of tea at home anyway!!

I found this adorable little tea spot while running errands through Wayne the other day. The decor is simple and unassuming yet charming with a soothing green color covering the walls and dark wood throughout. As a child, afternoon tea was a special occasion with my mother that required a party dress and a trip downtown to the Four Seasons or Rittenhouse hotels. I was happy to discover somewhere more casual and certainly less expensive on this afternoon. My server, Rebecca, provided impeccable service and was very helpful when I was making my tea and menu selections. Their lunch offerings of soups, fritatta, salads, and sandwiches were rather appealing but I decided on the full Afternoon Tea ($18 per person). The selections were really quite generous: 1 large scone of your choice with fresh lemon curd, clotted cream, and raspberry preserves as well as other assorted mini pastries, 8 tea sandwiches of tuna, cheddar with chutney, roast beef, and sweet cheese, and one pot of tea all artfully prepared and served. I was afraid the little restaurant would be filled with the Main Line elite whose attitudes easily ruin a peaceful afternoon to one's self, but none were to be found at the surrounding tables and I was happy to be treated with such care and attention. This is a place where one can be at ease even if you don't sport diamonds and fur. They provided for parties of up to 14 in house and can also coordinate catering. They offer and assortment of British favorites from HP sauce to Cadbury Chocolate to PG Tips tea. You can even take home steak and kidney pie, meat pasties, fresh lemon curd and clotted cream. I would consider this a lovely place to bring your friends, your daughter, your mother or even your husband.

Loved the traditional way tea is served. Excellent pastry and my daughter loved the chutney croissant. The teas are plentiful and we had Vanilla cream ( no cream ) which is heavenly. Price point is mid range. Take into account the rent in this location I think the prices are reasonable. Love the clotted cream with the warm scones Will be back.

Delicious, aptly portioned delectables--the Cheshire club is a notable favorite; generous and varied tea selections at reasonable prices; absolutely fabulous quaint setting; bubbly, personable staff. The new location offers more space, but the decor and arrangement of the dining room still give you that cozy and charming ladies-of-leisure-who-lunch feel. It's a delightful lunchtime escape, and I cannot wait to return for the Full Afternoon Tea very soon.

Fantastic service, menu is a little pricey, decor is beautiful and cozy. They have a gluten free scone available, which wasn't bad. Great place for birthday parties for kids, or a meeting place for adults. They have a separate room that seats 14 that you can reserve. Overall, it was a great experience and I'd love to go back!

We've been big fans of A Taste of Britain since its humble origin at the Berkeley Road location, and their move to the Eagle Village Shoppes didn't disappoint. Though the parking can be a bit persnickety, the new location is bigger, brighter, and befitting of a nice teatime in the suburbs. There are always a ton of Main line froufrou in the place, but don't let the collective snooty aura affect you -- staff are always friendly and down-to-earth, whether you're coming in jeans or your grandmother's pearls. A dizzying selection of teas are there to choose from (my personal favourite is blackberry or assam) but if you're not a tea drinker, there's also Cadbury's hot chocolate or coffee. I'm a little perturbed by the sugar/sweetener packets, but given that I'm a bit of a purist when it comes to my British teahouses, it's a tiny complaint on the whole spectrum. Food-wise, where do I start? Back at Berkeley, the roast beef on croissant special was a perennial favourite, so you can imagine my joy when they made it a permanent addition to the new menu. On the lighter side, the mixed greens salad is a burst of flavour, while the soup and tea sandwiches combo is surprisingly filling. Take a listen at their panini and frittata specials! I do have to say that their scones can be quite dense, but on a Sunday night at home toasted lightly with clotted cream... yum. They have a rotating scone-of-the-month special, but I stick with my classic buttermilk or lemon. Having said that, their hot gingerbread got me through some of the worst tonsilitis back in the day, while their lemon shortbread is nothing to be scoffed at. If you have a spare minute, browse through their freezer and imported goods section -- they're seemingly the only location in the whole area that sells my favourite dark chocolate McVities Digestives, plus plenty more British candy bars, crisps, and other pantry items. On most afternoons, expect a bit of a wait since this place tends to fill up quickly -- you can do what we do and call ahead for a reservation or a last-minute "do you have any tables open in twenty minutes?".

The chicken pot pie was pretty good and the tea selection is pretty impressive. However, I am giving this place 3 stars because they ran out of the earl grey a la creme tea and beef pot pie when it was only noon.

The best scones you will get when in not in England. The sausage rolls are delicious. The full tea service is wonderful incorporating tea sandwiches, a scone, and a tray of sweets, as well as a pot of tea. The price is great for all of the food you recieve. Special scones and tea change each month, so there is always something new to try.

We went there for lunch again mainly because the tea selection is amazing. We started with a couple soups and shared a cauliflower salad, which I highly recommend. Then, we enjoyed the full afternoon tea which includes 8 mini sandwiches which are all yummy and an assortment of desserts. The oatmeal currants scone was wonderful especially with the dipping sauces, and the oatmeal cookie with a cream filling was really cute. We ended with a citrus bread pudding layered with a rum sauce, which we somehow managed to eat after our huge lunch due to the mouth watering taste.

First time there and wasn't sure what to expect, but it was very good food. The only drawback was it took over a half hour to get out the order. This was due to the fact that I ordered the Welsh Rarebt, which after waiting for 20 minutes, the waitress said it did take a while. Probably would have ordered something else had I known the wait, but it was very good once it arrived. The daily soup of garden vegetables was excellent. The soup and tea sandwiches, you get 4, for $12 is very moderate pricing. The special ice tea of the day was blackberry, which was very dark and loaded with flavor. The waitress was very nice and gave me refills. If you are going , make a reservation, especially on a weekend. Every table was taken after we sat down around noon. They take all major cards and plenty of free parking in the Spread Eagle lot.

Quaint little place serving great selection of teas and finger sandwiches. Their menu includes salads, quiche, etc but I go for the full English Tea which comes with finger sandwiches, scones, pastries, jams, lemon curd .....yuummmm Being one of 2 males in the place, my last visit was a bit awkward, but who cares when you have scones that crumble on your fingers and melt in your mouth? Besides, some may see this as a plus. Remember to grab some scones to go. Too bad they are not open on Sundays and close by 5pm.

It's been a while since I visited, but I went one day for afternoon tea with my mom. We usually go to a tea place in Upper Darby, but this one is near one of the places I work out and also is more capable to handle walk-ins--though we did make a reservation, just in case. Of the (presently) 3 tea houses I've been to in the area, this one wins for taste. The atmosphere is very cute, don't get me wrong, but it is in a shopping center (albeit, a very upscale one), so you don't necessarily feel transported like my regular place in UD. All that said, I don't remember the specifics of the food, but it included plenty of tea sandwiches--bigger than bite size but not huge--some giant scones with a choice of flavors (they even have a flavor of the month), and mini pastries, along with lots and lots of tea. The service was very attentive and sweet, and there's even a little gift shop with some really unique British-themed stuff. What sets this apart from other tea places is that you can actually order real food, like chicken pot pie and other delicious-sounding stuff. The scones really were outstanding, and we left feeling very full. I'll definitely be back.

Grab your facinator and sip afternoon tea like our friends across the pond. Okay, you don't really need a facinator but they're so fun...Fabulous and filling afternoon tea. Impressive tea selection - if they still have it try to Snow White (white tea w pear, pineapple and red peppercorns...delicious). I bought a bag to take home and even though it's double bagged and in a container I can still smell it throughout the kitchen. Fabulous (and warm!) scones with a variety of flavors to choose from. Accommodating servers - no one in my family likes tuna or egg salad...no problem (or if it was they didn't let it show...they simply subbed some other tea sandwiches in for us). The table across from us had soup and salad...looked deliciously fresh and big! I'll probably never try b/c I could never go to a place with afternoon tea and get something else BUT it certainly looked and smelled tasty. The new owner was super nice and seemed genuinely interested in our opinion of tea when we were finished.

The perfect place for your next lady event. I had to organize a bachelorette party on the Main Line for an Anglophile bride who doesn't drink, so A Taste of Britain was literally serendipity. The staff walked me through a couple of scenarios when I called about three months ahead of time, and assured me that a group of seven could reserve the semi-private room at no extra fee and order off of the regular menu during regular hours. No credit card was necessary for the reservation, and when I called ATOB the day before the event to confirm our details, the staff immediately assured me they were still expecting us. A Taste of Britain has an adorably fun atmosphere, and we DID squeal when we walked into the semi-private room, decorated with photographs of Kate Middleton, Prince William and Prince Harry on the walls. It's a good thing that we were set away from the main restaurant, since we were RAUCOUS. There were even bunches of balloons floating in the space (may have been for us or leftover from earlier in the day). The food and teas are delicious. Three orders of afternoon tea served on tea tiers and individual teapots were more than enough for the seven of us. The waitresses were lovely and cheerfully took group pictures of us and never hurried us along in our meal. We were able to scoop up some additional British supplies in the front part of the restaurant, where you can buy souvenirs or Brit food. Do it!

what's not to love about this place? first off, the location is so cute and I love how it's decorated (Every table has a different tea pot and cups). I've been for tea and for lunch. Both times we had the same server and she is so friendly and nice. I took my parents here when visiting from CA and we all raved about the lunch...I can't wait to go back!

I've always been obsessed with all things British. It must've been a past-life kind of a thing. I like my men British "proper" a la James Bond, suave and debonair with a dry, biting wit. I love British spirits, cordials and liqueurs, etc. But above all, a little spot of tea on occasion always cheers me up a bit when I'm feelin' down. In light of all of the uproar around the "Wedding Of The Century", I've found myself in a British state of mind on quite a number of occasions lately, and I've taken to having tea in the afternoon quite a bit more often than usual. So I found myself in the mood and jonesing for tea in the 'burbs rather than traipsing into the city on a busy weekday so I decided to meet my girlfriend at A Taste of Britain and it was a good choice for a local "spot" although my favorite is still and will probably always be the Rittenhouse. We both had the Full Afternoon Tea and thought it was quite good. We loved the little tea sandwiches best of all. The Raspberry cream scone, was (honestly) a little dry, but I loved the way the condiments (or should I say fillers?) like the clotted cream, lemon curd, and raspberry preserves were served "in miniature" - I love anything in miniature. As for the tea itself, I went with the recommended PG tips and my friend had the Chamomile. All in all, I would say it's a nice, pleasant little place and I love the fact that they sell their wares in the store-front (really cute, and some good, hard to find merchandise, at that). Stop by and have a "spot" of tea if you're in the neighborhood, always a nice way to relax and wind down your day.

I have been here a few times now and each time I fall in love w/this place. They have a private room for parties and this is an ideal location for a bridal shower. The tea is excellent (the earl grey vanilla is the best) and the scones are scrumptious! I would highly recommend the buttermilk scones w/the clotted cream and raspberry preserves. Their eggsalad sandwich is the best I have ever had compared to any restaurant or deli. Only drawbacks would be that they are not open on Sundays and the hours during the week are limited. Also the seating area is limited so reservations are recommended for larger parties.

I love having afternoon tea. It has actually nothing to do with tea, but the whole experience. It's just a nice way to get together with your friends or family. This is a very nice and quaint tea shop. It has like 3 parking spots so timing your visit is important. They do offer lunch like quiche and soup, but I always get the afternoon tea service. The tea sandwiches are so simple and delicious. My two favorites are their turkey with cranberry and bacon and cheddar. The mini desserts are previous, but their scones are what you'll remember. In the fall, they have a pumpkin scone that is remarkable (have you guys figured out that i love pumpkin?). It's definitely worth a visit, but make a reservation. It's a small shop with few tables and it's always busy. Here's their website: easyelegance.net

A quaint little teahouse filled British products, dainty china and a pretty impressive selection of black, green, herbal and fruit teas. I started with Earl Grey and it was essentially what I expected -- hot and welcoming. Being English, I subscribe to the notion that there's very little that can't be fixed with a steaming hot cuppa. For lunch, I ordered the pea soup to start and the vegetable quiche as my entree. Pea soup has an unfortunate affiliation with The Exorcist and Linda Blair's gastric gymnastics. It's not surprising, really, Most pea soup is boiled down until it tastes like gym socks. However, A Taste of Britain abolishes this notion. Their minted pea soup is incredible -- fresh, rich and morish. Something this tasty should be served in a Trenta cup from Starbucks. The quiche was fine and a good choice for lunch - cooked well with a crumbly crust and a decent good amount of vegetables. Light enough for lunch or a substantial snack. Be sure to try their desserts. Teeny, sugary morsels that provide the perfect accompaniment to the tea. Oh and before you leave, make this little English girl happy and pick up a bag of Malteasers. They'll make you happy.

I have not been inside this place my friend's parents ordered a tray to go. The tray had various tea sandwiches, scones, pettite fours, and other delicious pastries. Everything was delicious and perfect portions to snack on while getting our hair done for a wedding. I was especially impressed with the scones and clotted cream. I have never liked a scone until I tried one from this place. I will be sure to stop in for a seated lunch at some point.

I had been to ATOB many times at their previous location and feel entitled to post this review. What prompted this was a call from a friend of mine who had just come from a horrifying visit to their new location. This tea salon has changed management a few times which can have a bad connotation. Unfortunately for this place no change was ever a change for the better. The service throughout the changes remained unfailingly mediocre-terrible. The management apparently have no real hiring skills that I can see. Considering that they are in the heart of the snooty Main Line district; trust me when I say that this is a demanding community. I cannot believe that they have been able get away with bad service, stale food and overall poor experiences. I have been there with my son several times and we used to time the server from beginning to end to see if we were just imagining things. One or two times we were there we waited close to one hour for our food, which was not complicated or large. The cups and saucers looked worn out and way past the shabby chic stage. The tea selection was pretty good as I recall. They often ran out of my scone of preference by lunchtime. When they did have it, many times they overheated and burned it or it was stale and too difficult to eat. The clotted cream and lemon curd were always good. Even they could not compensate for a rock hard scone. My main complaint re service would be that they are really slow, they see you come in and ignore you until you ask for help; they are not what I call friendly or accommodating; they often seemed put upon and haggard. Ultimately I found it hard work to go there and just get what I wanted when I wanted it.

So, I've been here twice - the first time with a reservation on a Saturday and the other, a Friday lunch (we had to wait 30 minutes, but it was so cold outside we just waited). What I like: Very "cute", girly, cosy, and a throwback to another time, another place. Having grown up in a country that was obsessed with Britannia, I really enjoyed the afternoon tea for $18. My friend got a quiche, so this way we could both sample the tea sandwiches and adorable tea pastries, yet eat something substantial. The second time, I got the combo - bowl of soup and 4 tea sandwiches. The sandwiches did not disappoint - I love the creamcheese fillings with different stuff. The soup however was disappointing - nothing a can could not have provided.

Every time I go to this place the service gets worse. The food is quite good but it is over shadowed by the poor service. It is not worth the aggravation. We waited a long time to get seated even though we had reservations. We waited forever for anyone to even acknowledge we were there then we waited even longer to get someone to give us the check!

Nothing will ever beat Alice's Tea Cup in NYC but this place is pretty good! Get the afternoon tea - you won't regret it! Three tier stand with various sandwiches (turkey, chicken salad, egg salad and cheese sandwiches), choice of 2 scones with jam and clotted cream, plus various cookies! They take reservations and they refill your teapot when you are running low which is a huge plus. Overall I was impressed with the cute little restaurant! The reason I gave 4 stars is because the scones were a bit dry and brittle. I tried to rip off a piece and it just kind of fell apart.

Finally the kind of tea room I've been looking for! This place is where it's at when it comes to tea and British foods. Super cute inside, warm and welcoming, plenty of seating, and a great menu of delicious foods. I had the afternoon tea which came with assorted tea sandwiches, a scone (with clotted cream, lemon curd, and preserves), mini desserts, and a pot of tea. I loved everything! My daughter had a sausage roll off the children's menu and she thought it was great. Our waitress was helpful in explaining some different menu items that were new to us. I will absolutely return!

I ate at ATOB TWO times this weekend! What a wonderful experience. The food was so delicious, the staff was very friendly and welcoming. The scones are to die for! I love this place. The food is good, not amazing, but good. The scones are delicious, but the tea sandwiches are nothing special. The cakes, at least the time I went, were a bit underwhelming. But the service is excellent, the setting is just lovely, and the tea was very good. Great selection and well presented. I will go back for certain. I thought the pricing was fair. If you aren't familiar with tea, it can be a bit pricey, but this was reasonable value for your dollar. It is a great place to take a mom or great aunt, or to go with friends for an afternoon get together. I took my 2 year old for a special mommy and me outing and they were really sweet to her. We'll be back for sure.

Stopped in on Saturday afternoon around 2:00. Two of us had afternoon tea and one had the ploughman's plate. There was more than enough food and we all enjoyed what we ate. I'm not a anglo-snob like one of the previous reviewers but have been to several other tea shops in the NY/NJ/Penn area. This one rates with the best of them. We appreciated the roominess of the dining area as often the tea shops we have been to or cramped for space. I would definitely recommend this shop to friends.

User Rating: 2 out of 5 stars by redangel2 08/31/2010 TEA NAZI!!!! Nice decor, good selection of hard-to-get British fare, but otherwise a HUGE disappointment. Full English tea consisted of a tiny teapot of the (looseleaf) tea of your choice (I have had better Darjeeling from Tazo) sweets and crustless sandwiches filled with what seemed to be either ham (average quality at best) or cheese whiz. I got two orders and still: no tomato and watercress, no cucumber, no salmon and cream cheese, no egg and deviled ham, no Queen Alexandra---hmph. In their defense, the homemade scones are almost worth the $18 full tea pricetag all on their own. But the creativity and imagination that have makes tea sandwiches desirable, the chance to sample an unusual combination of flavors in such a genteel fashion, was lost entirely. I see reviews where other people got some nice stuff though, so maybe I just showed up (3pm on a Saturday) when they were out of- almost everything. Second, the website says they are "open" till 5 and stop serving at 4. As there is nothing to do but maybe come in and buy a box of oatmeal or a Galaxy Bar if you aren't going to eat there, as far as I am concerned they close at 4 and lie about it. This poor woman came in at 12 minutes after 4 and all she wanted was a cup of tea and they actually threw her out. Apparently the actual sign on the door doesn't even specify-she thought she had plenty of time- and even with myself AND her complaining about how unfair this was, the woman who seemed like she owned the place just gave us both a condescending smile and acted like we should have known that already. I've been to England, more than once. Even the Brits don't always have their **** together to have tea by 4 on the dot, much less earlier. I really want to like this place as I am a huge Anglophile but I actually think I'm going to throw the rest of my coupons away. 1.5 STARS

A British tea shop. How very intriguing. I'm still trying to work out if they put it in Devon, because its called Devon and hey that's English, or if it is just random... Either way, they do a fairly reasonable job of an English tea. I have to say, the full English tea experience at $15.95 is a little expensive, considering that will buy you a decent main at a lot of excellent restaurants in Philadelphia. But as an occasional treat it is definitely worth it. The full tea gets you a selection of english tea sandwiches (cheddar and chutney, egg, cucumber and cream cheese, turkey and cranberry sauce), then your choice of scone with clotted cream (think whipped double cream), strawberry jam and lemon curd. You then get some biscuity (Americans, read as cookies) things to finish it out. You also get a pot of tea, including some decidedly British brands that I miss quite badly. The sandwiches and the scones are excellent. Ditto to Johns comment re: Starbucks, this is a whole new league. To be honest, the biscuits were a bit superfluous and weren't up to the quality of the rest of the meal but we were so stuffed it didn't matter. I also liked the fact that we were English in an English tea room provided vast amounts of amusement for a group of kids celebrating their birthday. Always nice to bring a bit of laugher to peoples lives! Its out of the way for a lot of people but it isn't too far from one of the 100 line stations, so it is accessible even for those without a car. So all in all, rather spiffing, highly recommended.

Do it!

Also the seating area is limited so reservations are recommended for larger parties.

what's not to love about this place? first off, the location is so cute and I love how it's decorated (Every table has a different tea pot and cups). I've been for tea and for lunch. Both times we had the same server and she is so friendly and nice. I took my parents here when visiting from CA and we all raved about the lunch...I can't wait to go back!

I ate at ATOB TWO times this weekend! What a wonderful experience. The food was so delicious, the staff was very friendly and welcoming. The scones are to die for! The current owner is very hands on and you can tell the love she has for the food and customers. I highly recommend ATOB and I can't wait to plan a couple parties there with my friends!!!

The chicken pot pie was pretty good and the tea selection is pretty impressive. However, I am giving this place 3 stars because they ran out of the earl grey a la creme tea and beef pot pie when it was only noon.

I've come here a few times with family and each experience has been very enjoyable. The place is cozy and tastefully decorated like a quintessential English tea house. I found the servers to be really pleasant and friendly. I've tried the mushroom soup, chicken pot pie, and tea sandwiches (cucumber cream cheese and turkey w/ cranberry spread). These were all good but I didn't find them to be particularly special or tasty. However, they have a great selection of teas to choose from. The Irish breakfast is a very light tea, not strong enough for my preference but absolutely love the Typhoo tea! It's a very strong tea and tastes great with milk. I love their buttermilk scones as well. They are always freshly baked and taste incredible with clotted cream and raspberry preserves. Stay away from the lemon curd though, it is way too sweet. FYI, the scone sides are definitely enough to share between two people. The only cons I have are that the regular food items are not that great and are a bit overpriced. The tea and scones are reasonably priced however. Weekends are pretty busy and they prefer that you make reservations. I would recommend calling a few hours in advance. It's a great place to come every once in awhile and I definitely recommend it.

The new location in Eagle Village Shops (formerly Spread Eagle Village) is adorable. They did cool Williamsburg blue walls and simple white and photographic decorations. I have gotten various hot paninis, quiches, and soups, and I've really liked all of them. I have yet to cough up the $$$ for full tea, although I may stop by and get a pumpkin scone after reading the other review! The new location has a pretty good selection of British candies and carby snacks, and they have a cooler stocked with clotted cream and curds and some of those pasty things for takeaway.

Very cute and a great menu. Def make a reservation though as this place gets packed quick on the weekends since it's only open on Saturdays. Sundays are private parties only. Must get a scone!
