Hoovers is easily forgotten when you think about all of the newer destination spots people hit in the Gibsonia/Mars area. Don't sleep this! It's a classic. On a Sunday morning when you want a quiet simple traditional breakfast, stop by to see them. Kimmers is usually the only server there so pick a day when you just want a leisurely morning. Nice choices like "build your own omelette" and sausage biscuits with gravy. Keep in mind that it's a German-style restaurant so if you want a hardy bratwurst omelette, it's yours! Great portions, great value, and family friendly,

My girlfriend and I went here on a Saturday night for their all you can eat buffet. The place is an old house turned into a restaurant. I think we were about 20 years younger than everyone else in the place. The staff was extremely friendly and talkative. The buffet had some really great German food. I love red cabbage and German potatoe salad. The braughts were delicious and potatoe soup was tastey. Overall a really nice place. I would love to take my grandma here next time I know she would really enjoy the place. Good food. Good price. Good atmosphere.

I stopped by here on Black Friday with my wife and her parents for lunch. I had been wanting to try this place for quite awhile since a couple of my co-workers recommended it to me. Whenever we arrived at the restaurant I have to admit that it wasn't really what I was expecting although it wasn't bad. It pretty much looked like an old house that had been transformed into a restaurant. The inside gave an indication that this was true as it seemed to have an odd setup, but once again this wasn't a bad thing. The dining room held seating for around 40 people or so and whenever we got there at 1:30 PM there was only one person in it. After perusing the menu for a bit, our whole table decided to get the build your own Octoberfest for our lunch entrees. I went with the one where you could choose 3 meats and then 3 sides. Upon ordering though I found out that it also included 2 other side dishes so I ended up with 5 side dishes! How crazy is that? On the bright side it did allow me to really have my own Octoberfest as I got sides of sauerkraut, red braised cabbage, hot German potato salad, potato pancakes and spaetzl. In addition to that the proteins that I chose for my meal were the Weiner Schnitzel, Bratwurst and Kielbasa. Everyone else at the table went with the 2 meats and 2 sides build your own Octoberfest and also got 2 additional sides. So we had 17 sides between the four of us. Utter ridiculousness! The good news was that all of the sides were pretty good with the red braised cabbage and potato pancakes being my favorite of the bunch. The only one that I wasn't a huge fan of was the spatzle which seemed to be swimming in butter yet didn't really have much flavor. All of my proteins were also quite good with the bratwurst being my favorite of the bunch. Our whole party ended up leaving Hoovers happy and quite full to boot. The bottom line for me is that I would head back here again in the future. They have a nice selection of German food and boy do they give you a lot of it!

It's a good German dining establishment...not great. The entrees were of solid quality, but both my wife and I got spaetzle with our meals and were disappointed in it. The service is alright, no complaints, nothing special though. I want to say if you are in the area you can do worse, and if you want German food and do not want to travel into downtown Pittsburgh, this place will very much do. BYOB though so if you are in the mood for a good German beer with your food, then you need to hit the six pack shop at the nearby Giant Eagle.

The potato pancakes are the best I've had outside of homemade. In truth, they even rival homemade. The pierogies are exceptional, the wienerschnitzel is without a doubt the best I've had. In general, the food has the feel of being cooked by your grandmother. It tastes like love was put into it. The place has a home-y atmosphere and the staff is exceptionally nice. There's really not anything I've ever had here that wasn't good. If you're into quality German food, I do t see you being disappointed in the least.

My parents have talked about how great this place is. And how they have a buffet. But somehow the 'rents had never been there for the buffet which is only available on certain days (every other Saturday). Once I asked why they hadn't tried the buffet and they couldn't give me a reason, plans were in the works. Calls were placed, reservations were made and the cooler was packed with some St. Pauli Girl (Hoover's is BYOB). We were seated quickly and quickly decided the all you can eat buffet was key. The cost is $15 a person and well worth it. The buffet included bean soup, salad, red cabbage, sauerkraut, potato pancakes, spaetzle, hot potato salad, bratwurst, knackwurst, weiner schnitzel, sauerbraten and carrots. I put together two healthy plates and ordered a piece of strawberry rhubarb pie to go. Staff was friendly and attentive despite the fact that we were eating from the buffet. Hoover's is a family friendly restaurant with some amazing food. I left with a happy belly, a bit of a buzz (from both beer and food) and a smile on my face. I would make the trip again for that amazing buffet (that will be made available during the week in the month of April according to signage in the restaurant) without hesitation.

The decor is outdated but the German menu is fantastic old school home style. I highly recommend the homemade pies for desert!
