By far my favorite pizza in the world. I am a local and was raised on this place but friends from all over agree upon its deliciousness. It is a little different from traditional pizza, but worth a try for those that haven't had the pleasure yet. I pick up a pizza here on the way home from work about once a week and am just getting around to reviewing it now because I am usually too preoccupied with the food itself. Also, this place has a great restaurant with an extensive menu (mostly Italian) and excellent staff. They are very accommodating of large groups as well and will rearrange tables and give you ample space; not to mention the private banquet room they have on its own separate floor! All in all, a great restaurant where I have a lot of fond memories with family and friends and of course delicious food.

Having grown up in the area, I used to think Pica's was fantastic and had great pizza! Unfortunately, as I have learned recently, their great food comes with a side of very prominent racism. Two weeks ago, my partner and I (both white) went to a wedding reception for my boss, who is black. They had reserved the space downstairs from 5:30-9:30 with a cash bar upstairs. We ordered our first drinks around 6:00 and took them downstairs. Dinner happened, along with some chatting and general wedding reception camaraderie. Around 8 I went back upstairs to get another round of drinks for the two of us, two beers. Prior to that we had had one beer (me) and two glasses of wine (her). As I approached the bar, the bartender immediately started putting our check together. He brought over the bill and said that the manager had told him to stop serving people. He then said, "You and your friend aren't the problem. I'd still serve you if i could but the manager told me to stop serving everyone." The problem was: there was no one in the dining area, there was no one at the bar. The only patrons were those from the wedding reception, all of whom were black. There was still an hour left on the reservation time for the reception. And NO ONE was buying drinks. As in, my partner and I were the only people to go to the bar more than once the entire time we were there. The rest of the people at the reception stuck around downstairs and just hung out. Just thinking about this experience makes me furious. if the wedding party had been predominantly white, I'm pretty sure this would not have happened. I'm really glad my friend was so wrapped up in her happiness that nothing affected her. Unfortunately, the same can't be said for me. i will definitely not be going to Pica's anytime in the near future. Personally, I prefer to enjoy my pizza with whomever I happen to be friends with. Oh, and red sauce.

I usually prefer thin crust pizza, but Pica's pizza is an exception. The pizzas have a nice balance between cheese, sauce and crust. It's always cooked perfectly. The sauce is a little spicy, which is great. The restaurant is big, so there's rarely a wait. The one downside is the parking spots in the parking lot are very small and sometimes it's hard to park with enough room to open the doors.

Best pizza in Delco! Love getting pizza take-out from here whenever I am home in Havertown. The rest of their food is good and they have a very large menu with Italian dishes. The restaurant itself is very transitional and reminds me of a family-style Italian place. They have a lot of space so it's good for parties and banquets.

I have lived in the area and have been hearing about the pizza at Pica's for years. I'm not impressed. I found it to be pretty salty without much flavor. When the waitress brought the bill she noticed I didn't eat much and said, " it's pretty salty, right? I need Chapstick after eating it." Too bad she didn't tell me that when I asked her thoughts on it before I ordered!

My husband and I had dinner there and I ordered the chicken fettuccini and the veal piccata. I have to admit food was very very good. So good I wanted to order take out. I ordered the the genie Alfredo. It was good but I had a little issue. No problem because I brought it to the attention of Angela one of the managers and she corrected the situation immediately. She was very nice and very customer service-oriented. I would definitely return.

Just a nice place to go with the family for some old school spaghetti and red gravy dinners. Service is always nice, food is good and price is reasonable. Always full of crowds and multi-generational gatherings eating and having a nice time. The two teenage boys beg me to go to get the chicken parm.

I've been here so many times and I keep coming back. The pizza here is heavenly. Probably the best pizza of Upper Darby. I just had the white pizza and let me just say that I am still salivating. I don't know how they put so much flavor into a pizza but the cheese is so perfectly cooked that it sort of melts in your mouth as you bite into it. II've only had one rough experience a while back when they charged me twice for my pizza but they've fixed it and more than made up for it. I don't like how it gets very busy here but it's funny that it's really not that noisy. Try the white pizza you won't be disappointed.

It's a good place to eat but it is a little pricy. The place is a little old and outdated but the food is great. If you haven't tried their pizza yet you must! The pasta dishes are great and their sauces are tasty. It's a good place to go for a date night.

I can't help it, I've got to give Pica's 5 stars for the pizza even though it's really the only thing I ever get! It's known as the "famous square pizza,"-- tomato pie-style with the sauce on top of the cheese. The sauce is delicious, and the flat crust has crispy edges (slightly charred if you ask for it--my favorite). The staff there is friendly, and they are quick to seat you, even with a wait. And there's always a wait for dinner. Favorite hometown spot!

One of my favorite restaurants in the world. Great food, great employees. Good for small dinners and big events I highly recommend the chicken alfredo. They give you huge amounts of food for good prices. Love the soups too!

Olde School Italian---just like when I was a kid in the 60's and we visited South Philly. Gravy (aka spaghetti sauce if you're not Italian) is old fashioned-rich and delicious. Lunches are great!!! Great choices! Good homestyle food! You won't have to eat dinner!

I've been going here for over 20 years. Their pizza is the best! I'll drive 30 minutes just to pick up a pie. The regular sauce pizza is amazing, and hands down the best white pizza I've ever had!

I hadn't been here for 25 years but it is a Delaware County institution. I stopped in here for dinner with a member of the older set because it's one if the few places nearby that serves snapper soup and that was a must have for them. This got good reviews from my dining partner although I was not equally impressed. This is not to say it was bad, just not fabulous. Sherry was served with it, if course. We both picked the veal Parmesan with a cup of the soup. This was served with warm bread and butter and peppers sautéed with garlic and red pepper flakes. The veal was a very large piece, though not the most tender topped with the traditional sauce and mozzarella. This comes with either two veggies or a choice of pasta with red sauce (spaghetti, ravioli, or linguine). The treat here is that they make their own pasta here. I had forgotten that over time, and for that I upped them to 4 stars. There is something to be said about a place that makes and serves their own pasta. I miss Cafe Bellisimo in Springfield when they made their pasta. Service is attentive but provincial. Be prepared to be called guys or girls or honey. Nonetheless go for the pasta.

I came here with a friend, who loves this place. She had the pizza, which was honestly pretty delicious. I was a little skeptical about the cheese on the bottom and tomato sauce on top, but I'm converted. I had what was described on the menu as "gnocci with meat sauce." When I asked for any more details about what this "meat sauce" was, the server wasn't able to give me any information because she didn't know. I figured, it's an Italian restaurant, this is a basic dish, how bad could it be? When it arrived, it was totally tasteless. The gnocci tasted mealy and was gross, and the sauce had little pieces of ground up meat in there. It seems like pizza is the only thing they know how to do!

This place is considered a sacred tradition for my friends and I as we've been going there for 15 years now. This is my favorite pizza place on the planet. There is no competition. I live in California now and I can't tell you how many times I've had the crazy idea to fly back home for some Picas Pizza. The mussels are incredible too. Frank Pica was a genius. PS... The Cherry Coke is off the hook. I think they use the Coke recipe from the 20's. ; )

Seriously overrated. I've been going here all my life. Their cheese fries are 5 stars. Their pizza is 3 and everything else is 1 at best. The staff is friendly though. I'll still go here, but I'll stick to the pizza and fries.

I love the pizza here and forgot just how good it is until today. We ordered a pizza from take out and pounded the whole thing. Cheese goes on the bottom then sauce and its cut into rectangles. Biggest regret is not ordering two pies.

Finally got to Picas which is all about the Pizza! It is an awesome Sicilian Pie which is thinner than most Philly examples. It is bottomed with cheese and topped with a delicious pizza sauce that is filled with fresh tastes of tomatoes and basil and oregano and not too sweet yet incredibly balanced. The Pizza would have warranted 5 stars. However, the cheesesteak was awful and tough and without flavor. The rolls we're not fresh and were really hard to chew. The fries were also soggy. The staff was great and the atmosphere was very cheerful. We will be back for one of the Top Pies in Philly! Just stick to the Pizza and it is a five star pizzeria!

Pica's is an excellent standard in Eastern Delco. Superb lunch location for business or office lunch: also good for leisure lunch. Excellent if you are catching a bite while having your car detailed next door or after shooting a round of golf nearby at one of the several clubs nearby. Excellent location to book for special events. Snapper is great: salads: entrees: all their food. the menu is great. And great coffee.

The best pizza in Delaware County, and possibly the entire greater Philadelphia area. Anything but generic, Pica's pizza is rectangular with a nearly non-existent crust, cheese on the bottom, and sauce on the top. It is literally incomparable in that I've never seen or sampled anything like it anywhere else, which certainly adds to the overall appeal. It's a must-eat for those travelling through the area; from treating several new friends over the years, the biggest complaint I hear concerns the amount of cheese. If you like more than just a little cheese on your pizza, order the extra. You won't regret it. Also, they crumble their sausage. This may seem innocuous, but so many pizzerias singularly fail to do this satisfactorily.

I love Pica's take-out, but the restaurant not so much. My family's food was brought out in dribs and drabs and cold at that. This meant we weren't going to be able to eat together. No way, i had to speak with the manager. She comped our whole meal, which is what a good manager does if they want you back. We appreciated that. Oh and even our coffee was cold and instead of making a new pot, our server offered to microwave it. What a gal !! Eww. Probably won't return.

I came here about a month ago for my birthday! This one lady I think her name is Michelle or something like that who was rude, very impatient, had a terrible attitude and so hideous it makes you want to scream and hide. I went there with my mom, my best friend and some other friends and we vowed never to go again. We ordered a large "tomoto pie" as they call them because out here in Cali they call them pizzas. It was over half an hour before we got our food. We all ordered something to drink and to even get that took an eternity. Since we were having a bad time we decided to get dessert to go rather than eat it there. When we paid we didn't leave a tip because the service was that bad.

I don't know why it took me so long to chime in on Picas! If you grew up, or ever lived in the area, you know Picas! Its quality service and food year after year is legendary. You can't go wrong when it comes to the menu...which is so enormous! If you are new...you have to try the Pizza. Yes...I mean have to! Next try a pasta...any pasta (my favorite is the gnocchi)! If you are in the mood for a sandwich, the Pizza Steak never let's me down! Its 5 stars hands down!

If Tina Fey loves it, so do we. I quote her, "This pizza is THE best!" Just saw your saucy, square slices being devoured by Fey and Fallon on The Tonight Show. I want some, except I live in California. Next time we're in Philly, we will pay you a visit. My husband is a pizza connoisseur and is an avid fan of Fey - sounds like the perfect pie for him.

Takeout pizza is pretty good. I've never been disappointed with it. It's square and the sauce is on top of the cheese, which is pretty fun. It's nice to mix it up every once in a while. Oh, they have really good hoagies too. They taste really fresh and they're cheap. Just stay away from the dining area, at least during lunchtime. It's like a retirement home in there. I thought maybe we got 2 free games of bingo for every dollar spent or something. But seriously, menu food is gross. Soups tasted canned and microwaved, burger looked and tasted like a frozen patty cooked on a flat iron, and the chicken on the salad was rubbery. Long story short, grab some hoagies or takeout pizza, and forget about the restaurant.

I think this place has become a tourist trap almost. Heck, who wouldn't want to eat the same food as Tina Fey, and Jimmy Fallon?!?!? I just moved to Drexel Hill and ordered a couple of pizza's for takeout. The cheese first AND THEN the sauce is a nice touch, especially since I have personally always liked it that way, and would sometimes make them that way for myself when I worked for Little Caesars back in the early 90s. I ordered the seafood pizza with was flavorless. Edible, sure. But no flavor. You had to squint to see the shrimp. I also ordered food on a Wednesday afternoon. I had to (I kid you not) stop at three stations to get my food. One to pay, one to get my cheese pizza, and another station for the seafood pizza. Would I have to go to a fourth station if I wanted a soda? Probably. Doesn't make any sense, and comes across to me as one of those rude "this is South Philly" rules. Except this was in the suburbs. Also the three people I dealt with (again, what's up with that?) came across like I was annoying them. Again, like a tourist trap South Philly Cheesesteak place. If me giving you money is troubling you, I will gladly give my money to somebody who appreciates it. Better pizza than an typical take-out pizza joint? Sure. Full disclosure: I have not eaten inside the restaurant, nor gotten food other than pizza.

The pepperoni pizza here is unreal. They do it in that funky "tomato pie" style, and it's effing delicious. The sauce is a beautiful balance of sweet and savory, and the crust is thin and cooked just right. All of the other food we had here was good, but wow - I seriously want to fill a bath tub with that pepperoni pizza and just live in it.

We were here last night for calamari and pizza before going to the Tower Theater for a show. Not much else looked inviting (from an out of towner perspective) on that stretch of road, so we gave it a shot. The decor is old school, but service was fast and our waitress did her job well. The pizza is outstanding! We got sausage and mushroom, and it was really good. The calamari was also good. Our beers were only $4.25 each. I would look forward to stopping at Pica's again if we ever get up to a show again.

Love the pizza! as a kid we got it at least once a week. now we get it like once a month - just because i have three kids and i try to cook at home. but still hands down best pizza in upper darby area!!! i love getting the corner pieces! not a fan of their other food. bland, expensive and just not that great! but this review is on the pizza. Def. get lg half pep/saug. oh and they are opning a location in West Chester.

This is our go to for take out pizza. Love the sauce on the top. White pizza is a fave, too. The times we do dine in - the servers are always very professional. The kids love it as well. What more can I say. It's an institution.

Just tried the White Pizza yesterday and it was awesome, it is going to be a tough choice next time I go back or you know what I will just get a small of each! There's nothing anywhere that can come close to Picas pizza & other foods beside the comfortable feeling!! You don't have to walk in with a stick up your Butt to be comfortable. It started as a neighborhood spot( now they have a huge party rm. down stairs, it's still got feeling of it being a comfortable neighborhood Spot,) In my Book nothing Beats a Picas pizza,Not Greasy like other pizza almost Everywhere else. EVERYONE I KNOW WISHES THEYD START (close area) Delivery ! What a concept, not having to get in a cold car to pick up a cold pizza. I still say it is Well Worth it ! ! !

This place seems to embody one of the tri-state area's biggest faults: blind affection for nostalgic crap. I don't even know if Pica's is an institution, but considering the fact that the dining room looks like Conference Room B at any airport Econo Lodge c.1987 leads me to believe it's been on West Chester Pike for a while. But Cold War era decor doesn't make a bad restaurant. Bad service and bad food does. Pasta is pretty simple. Your customers aren't asking for more than a kind of noodle and a kind of sauce. Why then should it ever take 25 minutes to get a plate of spaghetti and meatballs? And for $14? If you're charging $14 for pasta, that pasta better give me a back rub and wax my car. But no, it was cold and the sauce tasted like a can of Cento tomato sauce with no seasoning. I'm not even exaggerating, there was zero seasoning in the tomato sauce. I smothered it in garlic salt just to choke down the few bites I could manage. Maybe their pizza is better since that is what seems to be getting the rave reviews. But the dining room was filled with customers in suits and ties, which seemed to indicate this place was a bit more than a pizza joint. For about half the price and twice the service, this place would have passed for a decent diner. As it is, if you want bad Italian food and mediocre service, go to the Olive Garden.

What kind of crazy ass pizza is this! You'll hear comments like this all the time when a newbie shows up at Pica's. Then they take a bite. What do you hear next? Wow, this crazy ass pizza is great! It does look a little strange. It's square and the cheese is under the sauce. Small and large pies are $9.95 and $14.75. The price of toppings varies but run around $2.50 each. So large pies can be a little pricy but it's worth it. That's it for the pizza. What about the remainder of the menu? This is a classic Southern Italian joint and the menu is huge. If it's Italian, it's probably here and the portions are large. The food is definitely above average. Stuffed Homemade Chicken Cannelloni- Crepe Stuffed with Chicken, Spinach, Ricotta Cheese & Topped with Tomato Sauce and Mozzarella Cheese for $17.95. This was the last dish I enjoyed here. It comes with a salad and hot bread and was delicious. Can you get better Italian in South Philly? Sure you can but then you have to get there and hassle with parking etc. Pica's has a nice parking lot so weekdays are easy. This place is incredibly popular so Fridays and Saturday parking can be a challenge. So if you are looking for a suburban Italian or a great crazy ass pizza you should give these folks a try.

Oddly enough, I never had a pizza there. There is a full resturant in the back the staff is very knowedgeable. The food is out of this world and you get enough to take home. The last time I went there it was just a couple chessestakes to go ( great BTW and so were the fries) i asked how many pizza they made and he said a few hundred. The time before that I was in the back with a full lunch (even a white sangrita) which I had to try. Yes they sell booze. I have been many times only complait is we got to much food. Did I mention this is a very family oriented place. Not very noisey even with a crowd of 10 or more seated nearby. Please check it out.

Pizza yes. Dinner no. I just had one of the saltiest and disappointing meals there. The linguine and clam sauce was nearly congealed when it came to the table and it wasn't the way it used to be years ago. And the prices no longer compete with the other 'fancier' places. I've been here several times in my life, and never left disappointed. For those of you who may have read any of my other reviews, you may have seen me lament the lack of good Italian restaurants in my general vicinity, that being south of Baltimore Pike and east of the Blue Route. Let me now officially say that Pica's is what I wish those Italian restaurants could be. I decided to try the pizza for the first time today, and was not disappointed. The sauce on top thing actually brings out the flavor of the sauce, which is a good thing in this case. Even the wife enjoyed a leftover slice a few hours later and deemed it quite tasty. So Pica's pleased two people tonight. I sat at the bar, and enjoyed great service. I suppose what keeps it from 5 stars is that I found $9.99 to be a tad bit high for the amount of food you get with the small regular pizza. I do wish they allowed the sale of slices at the bar to enjoy with a beer. But that's probably more my beef than anything. Overall, a worthy experience, and I will be back to order something more substantial next time.

My family has been going to Pica's since I was born, so I have eaten here tons and tons of times over the years. I love the pizza, but it's not for everyone as the sauce being on top of the cheese is an issue for some. The flavor of the sauce though is really good and the toppings are really good too. Pepperoni is my favorite since they use nice sized pepperoni you would see on a hoagie and not the little ones everyone is accustomed to. Their other dishes that it have tried are good as well. It's a nice place to eat in if you want a tasty meal at a good price. The roasted sweet peppers they serve with the Italian bread with entrees are a delicious bonus. Great place all around. I recommend trying it out if you haven't.

Usually my experience here is pretty good. Food is good, pizza is good, sometimes I feel like their sauces could be a bit better, the alfredo, marinara, etc. Also last time I was here I think I had an inexperienced server, no big deal but he forgot a couple things. Overall, I would recommend when in the area. Also, the parking lot kinda sucks.

A welcome change of pace from the typical greek style pizza places that are all over Havertown/Upper Darby and the Main Line. The pizza is somewhat in the style of Trenton Tomato pie in the sense that it has the cheese on the bottom and sauce on top. That being said this is a soft crust (while a Trenton tomato pie has a thin crispy crust). Regardless all the elements worked well together despite the fact that I'm not a fan of soft crusts. Unlike a Philly style tomato pie this crust is not overly thick. Will definitely be back to Pica's and can't believe I've gone my whole life without knowing about this place.

Enjoyed the pizza here last night with a group of friends. We ordered several types including the white pizza the regular with tomato sauce on the top and pepperoni. All were very tasty and loaded with flavorful cheese. We also had the antipasto which was full of ingredients such as pepper shooters hard boiled eggs salami and various greens.

Not to toot my own horn, BUT I know my Italian food. Even though the blood that runs through my veins is only 25% Italian, in my heart I am 100% gravy cooking-Olive Garden hating- gold chain owing- Cadillac driving- big hair wearing Italiana. So when I get invited to an Italian dinner in Delco with my husband's nearly 100% Irish family, my heart stops a little bit. However, I am happy to report that I made it out of the dinner at Picas with my guidette heart still intact. I would probably describe this place as an Italian diner. Huge restaurant with an even larger menu, super friendly waitstaff that calls you "hun", and average but decent food. We shared a pizza as an appetizer and I ordered the manicotti. I was pretty impressed with the pizza- I love the sauce on top style of pizza. The sauce could of had a bit more spice but overall it was good. The manicotti was a bit too cheesy for my liking but I could tell the sauce was tasty and the pasta was super thin and tasted homemade. There are definitely better Italian options within a short drive but if you find yourself at Picas, you can count on a decent meal.

While I've only ever had take-out, this is my favorite pizza in the Philadelphia suburbs. The pizza is unique, with the sauce is on top of the cheese. Plain cheese is my favorite, but pepperoni is a winner too. The flavor of the sauce is awesome, and the crust and cheese work perfectly together. I didn't grow up with this pizza but my husband did, and we make sure to have some every time we are back in the area. Tip: ask for extra, extra sauce (2x), and thank me later.

Average restaurant. The food was okay. We had a repass lunch here for a party of 25. They can accomodate private parties. The only downfall is the private rooms are downstairs, so if there are any handicaps in your party, they may not be able to make it to the event due to steep stairs and no elevator.

Went back for plain pizza at the behest of my sister in law. It was definitely a solid "good" pie. I was starving at the time so I really did enjoy it. The service sucked again but wasn't as bad as the first time. Would I drive back specifically for the pizza? No. That being said, I am glad I got to try it for myself.

Start with the snapper soup...end with the tiramisu! Just about anything else in between will be pretty good. Groups are welcome, but the large dining room is downstairs with NO elevator. Note, the pasta tastes better the next day after the seasoning has gone through it overnight. I DON'T recommend the lobster ravioli (if you want to actually taste & see lobster). But....start with the snapper soup...end with the tiramisu!

I grew up on this pizza and will never grow tired of it. Growing up in the Upper Darby/ Delco area- Good pizza is a rare find. Good Italian pizza just does not exist. This may not be the traditional thin crust/round pie you think of but when you want good italian pizza, Pica's upside down pizza is the best around . You gotta ask for it well done and my personal fav is the crumply sausage. Service is the always warm and welcoming with an old school kinda feel. The other italian menu items are good- nothing to rave about in my opinion but still good in a limited area. I tend to go straight for the pizza when I"m ordering Pica's though, espcially since it's rare that I get to enjoy it anymore.

Picas makes some of the best pizza in delco. The white with broccoli raab is sensational. I like to order my pizza a little bit well done for an extra crispy crust, and the pica's broccoli raab extra crispy is delicious. Pica's differentiates its product from the gaggle of pizza houses in delco by making their pizza with the cheese on the bottom and the sauce on the top. Flavor town! If you are spending time in delco and are looking for a piping Italian favorite, then you can't miss Pica's!

I love Pica's pizza. Unusual because the sauce is on top. So tasty. No one else makes pizza this way. I don't have Pica's pizza very often but when I do it is heaven! The restaurant is family owned and is old fashioned- you feel like you are stepping back in time to a begone era. They have a large extensive menu but I always get the pizza ( which is what they are famous for). This is a great place for families and couples to dine.

We grew up having the best pizza from Pica's, so you will understand my disappointment when we ordered pizza from Pica's tonight and traveled over 1/2 hour each way (so I will not blame them for the temperature). One of our pizzas was burnt, and I didn't mean in a rustic way! I asked for sauce and we received and paid for some red water. Oh well, I guess it is hard to believe they could keep a standard of service through the years :(

If you grew up or have lived in the southern Delco area, you have at least heard of Picas. Its an institution. I myself have been here as a teen but my family werent Picas people, we didnt like the saucy pizza.I hadnt been there since High School, when we came as a large group after a play. On a recent foray into Upper Darby, I was exited to try the place again as an adult. Upon walking into Picas, and seeing the fancy lobby, and a large portrait of Frank Rizz- uh I mean Frank Pica staring back at me, I began to feel a bit under dressed in my t-shirt and jeans. Especially after seeing the Sopranos extra in the lobby, dressed to the nines in a 3 piece suit complete with sunglasses and turquoise hat. Im now thinking that he must have escaped from one of the banquet halls, Pica uses for wedding receptions and events. Despite my loutish attire, we were greeted warmly and only had to wait a few minutes for a table for 2. Its hard to describe the atmosphere of Picas. I wouldnt want to insult Picas by saying it was diner-like, however it definitely wasnt fine dining. Lest anyone take that as a negative, let me say that I felt very comfotable here and had the perfect mix of class and warmth. Our server (Mary?) was fantastic. I often sense the robotic fakeness of servers, who make the employee/customer dynamic really evident. This girl made us feel like guests as opposed to customers. She was knowledgable, and had a great sense of humor, she was available yet not obtrusive. I was with someone , who likes to put servers on the spot (in a charming way) and she rose to every occasion. The food was better than I remember. We were given Bread and butter and stewed peppers and onions gratis to start. My guest thought the peppers were phenominal. I was a fan of the bread, which was a dense portuguese style roll. The menu was quite ecclectic, but we both felt like italian food was the way to go. I got the Lasagne, which was better than most that ive had at other italian places ive been to recently. Between bread, house salad, and the oh-so large slab of Lasagne, I feel like I got my moneys worth at the price( about $20 per person). Im ashamed to say that I couldnt even finish my meal, however it made a fantastic lunch the next day. Upon leaving, my guest felt the need to seek out the manager, to compliment our server. They were genuinely appreciative of the compliment and I felt like they would pass the message along. Ive seen managers just brush off compliments and complaints, these people however were professional and knew how to bring back business. No surprise that Picas is an institution in Delco. So we dragged our loutish asses out of there, definitely a few pounds heavier and a few mph slower than when we went in. For once, I wasnt jealous or resentful of meeting up with an old friend from High School and seeing that theyve done pretty well for themselves in the interum. But then again, Picas never pasted "Kick Me" notes on my back in homeroom. They were always good people.

I went last week with a rather large party and the food/service was excellent. Seating was quick, but I did call ahead to reserve my seating. After we all got settled into our seats our waitress was prompt to take our drink orders. Our server was pleasant and had no issues with our food or drink orders. She came by several time to ensure we were happy or to refill drink orders. The food comes out in huge proportions, so bring you appetite with you. Also, if going with a larger party, order a large pizza pie, well done (trust me you will love it). I have never been to Picas with a party smaller than six and every time we all leave, we leave happy. The service and food is great and it is what will keep my family driving from various parts of Pennsylvania to have our family functions. The only reason I did not give this place 5 stars is because of the limited parking, but this can be seen as a good thing. If the parking lot is full, the restaurant is full, and there must be a reason the restaurant is full.

My last review of bad pizza just depressed me (I take my pizza very seriously) so I thought I would write a review of my favorite pizza place in the world: PICA'S. It is the absolute best. It is the kind of pizza that makes me whisper "I love you...I love you so damn much" right before I dive in and eat it. It's that good. I only wish that I lived closer so that I could creep out my fellow dining companions on a regular basis but we can't always get what we want. Pica's, don't you ever change. Also, side note: When I first went to Pica's for my sister's birthday dinner I was dumb enough not to order the pizza (had not discovered it yet) and ordered the lobster ravioli instead. This was very tasty but once I discovered their pizza, I never ordered anything else again.

Pica's is indeed (in the words of Jim H.) an institution in Upper Darby PA. Believe it or not I am not here to review, nor have I ever been a fan of their pizza. Though it is quite good if you like that sort of pizza (basically tomato pie with the cheese underneath the sauce), I am actually reviewing everything but the pizza. I love Pica's homestyle Italian menu. Their chicken and veal parm dishes are to die for and portions are huge, you could actually share them with AT LEAST 2 other people; if not you'll have a doggie bag good for at least 2 more meals. They make great homemade pastas (capellini or as you may know it, "angel hair" is my favorite) and the bolognese sauce is fabulous. The meatballs are wonderful as well. I am usually eating healthy and I absolutely love their sauteed scallops (I request lite butter, lite oil and they always accomodate me perfectly). The most fabulous thing about Pica's is BY FAR, their house dressing (called creamy italian--but more like a wonderful, not too thick, garlicky caesar). This dressing is SO INCREDIBLY wonderful that I like to have some salad with my dressing (pardon the corny cliche). You can actually purchase it, THANK GOD!!!! And sometimes if you have a really nice waitress, she'll give you a couple extra li'l containers to take home with you. SSHHH don't tell anyone. I'd be remiss if I didn't mention the wonderful waitstaff and the host (who is also the owner) and hostesses (2 of whom are the owners daughters). Everyone is sooo nice and accomodating, which makes your dining experience all the more pleasant. I am so happy and feel so fortunate that we have had Pica's so close by for all of these years. Delaware County needs more (Old European/Homestyle Italian) restaurants like Pica's that have the staying power. Pica's is not just an old stand-by, it's wonderful Italian food that an Italian mama would make. Kudos to Pica's for sticking around all of these years. Here's to many more years of service to Delaware County and the surrounding communities.

This has been one of my favorite pizza places since as far back as I can remember...I live in Collingdale which is about a 20 minute drive from here but I would drive to get it even if it was an hour away, that's how good it is. Pica's Italian Restaurant fell into my lap unexpectedly like all great things...classic novel, fine wine, or a big bottle of propranolol and a comfy pillow...you know, the great things. One day I am walking out of this bar, as I am one to do...I am drunk, as I am one to be, and I am holding a Domino's pizza bag, hat, and a huge clump of hair from a delivery boy, as I am one to do. I am cursing, as always...I am angry...as always...I am gorgeous...as always. I am muttering something about the fall of civilization, the lack of quality, the death of true artists when this beautiful girl walks up to me. She is amazing. A vision. She gently takes the items out of my hands and hugs me...pressing me hard against her breasts...I smiled...I was in. She whispered something sweetly in a french accent with seriously heavy lisp...it was disturbing...I, Rex Marvin, was disturbed...am disturbed...but more disturbed. She led my by the hand to her car where she performed the most acrobatic love maneuvers a woman can perform. After 6 minutes of passion she was unsatisfied and hungry. She told me would eat at her favorite place...we pulled up to Pica's...as I got out she screamed something about my manhood...I don't think it was nice...something about a thumb...and drove away. Truthfully I was glad, she looked like heaven but sounded like Porky Pig...it was all too much...much too much. I went inside and ordered their famous pizza. It was a revelation. Cheese on the bottom, sauce on top and a great slice of real deli pepperoni. I ate the whole pie. Over the next few times I tried the fried ravioli, several pasta dishes (veal in red sauce being the best), and various appetizers. The food was always good. It is not great, but the food all seems to be made with care and pride, and that goes a long way. I wouldn't go too far out of my way for anything except the pizza, which earned this place an extra star, but it is a good place to eat if you are near by. I saw that girl again...she cried. I cried. She licked my tears. I confessed my love..."I love you, Porky" I whispered..."I love you, Thumb." Four days letter she moved back to France and took my favorite blow up Betty White Golden Girls love doll. C'est La Vie.

We only went here once in the 4 years we lived in town. For some reason it wasn't on our radar until right before we moved away. The food was certainly delicious and the staff was friendly and family-like. There was plenty to choose from on the menu and it was reasonably priced. This is a great place to go with your family or friends.

Whenever people ask the "Best Pizza" question in the yelp talk threads, I always suggest Pica's, nowhere else. Besides the pizza, the food is delicious. They have a full menu with a variety to choose from. The main reason to come here is for the pizza. Every once in a while I will get pasta. All of the reviews here are pretty accurate. Cheese on the bottom, tasty sauce on top. Before you say which pizza is the best in Philly, stop here before casting your final vote. You have to try it.

We are headed here for dinner tonight and thought it was a great time to review the magic that is Pica's. The reviews on here are all over the place and I can see that - it is definitely a love/hate kind of establishment. In order to love it you have to find the kitschy-ness of the place charming and appreciate old school kind of food. There pizza here is delicious and perfect for me. I absolutely hate pizza sauce that has chunks or little pieces of tomato in it. This sauce is on the thinner side and devoid of tomato particles. I also think it is quite flavorful. I always order my pizza "well done" because I think it tastes better when it's a little brown. Another food item of note is the house dressing. It's a creamy-ish Italian dressing that is delicious and tastes so good on their salad - which for some reason is so cold it's like it came out of the freezer (that's not my preference but I'm used to it). If you are local and haven't tried it - give it a try. But the first time you eat the pizza - eat it at the restauarant. It's best coming straight out of the oven and hot.

You either love it or you hate it. Or if you're like me, you go through love periods and hate periods with Pica's. Regardless, you have to at least go to this neighborhood institution to check it out. The pizza (as others have mentioned) is upside down and very thin. So thin, a friend of mine and I recently ate an entire small (square) pie while sitting for a lovely dinner. It is best right out of the oven so when it arrives at your table, dig in immediately. There are plenty of other things on the menu but none that stick out in my mind enough to write about. One goes to Pica's for the pizza. They also do takeout which is convenient but gets extremely packed, especially on Friday nights so good luck finding a parking spot. Other items to pick up from takeout - chicken fingers, mozzarella sticks and house salad. The fingers are truly fresh pieces of chicken breast lightly breaded and absolutely delicious, the mozzarella is also fresh and comes of course with marinara sauce that is quite tasty. The salad just brings a bit of green into an otherwise not-so-healthy dinner. Ask for the house Italian dressing and if you're with me....NO BEETS!

I had a great Chicken Parmigiano sandwich. No frills good italian fare and if you are under 60, you are well below the average age of the customers, so don't go expecting a lot of glam or a trendy scene. It is really good italian food at a reasonable price. Definitely going back.

This was a tough one to swallow as I grew up eating the original Santucci's in Juniata Park which has always been near and dear. Pica's pizza is VERY similar and if they cook it well done enough, its even better. Good for take out. Do not prefer to dine in, outdated decor, service OK.

My friend lives 10 mins away and she suggested pizza for dinner one night when we were pressed with time. So we pulled in. It's seems to be a family friendly restaurant. They certainly accommodate larger groups. The decor is a bit dated for my taste, but the food made up for it. The pizza which comes in 2 sizes are good, but nothing to call home about. It's a thinner crust, shaped rectangularly. In my opinion, the pizza wasn't quite hot enough. We also ordered salad and a pasta dish. They advertise that they pasta is made on premises. It was really not that great. It was not al dente enough so the texture was really off. I guess for a surburban restaurant, it's not a bad choice. But I wouldn't make a trip out her solely for their food.

I have been here about a half-dozen times and usually the service and food are quite good - EXCEPT for last night's visit. We had a new server and it seemed like the kitchen was run by newbs as well. In the middle of our meal the server stopped by our table and asked if she could have our cheese - she couldn't walk to the service area and get one? We waited a fair amount of time for our bread and soup. I had some of the worst alfredo ever - tasted like bechamel sauce. My fiance's side of pasta was dried out - as if it had been sitting under a heat lamp forever and his veal was just OK (he said it's usually great). We spoke to the manager on the way out and she was somewhat consoling and gave us a gift certificate for our next visit. Still not sure if we will return.

I grew up around the corner from Pica's and it's still hands down my favorite pizza place. You either love the cheese on the bottom/sauce on top square pizza or you hate it. It's busy, the take out kitchen is always clean, and you better know how to order before you get in there. It's a mad house during Lent on Friday nights, and sometimes the line is out the door with people waiting for plain cheese pizzas. I prefer take out to eating in the restaurant but I've eaten in the dining room plenty of times and never had any trouble. Overall, I think it's a great place and the owners/cooks really seem to care about what they're doing and the product they are putting out.

The only downside is the wait for your food but they do tell you up front that it takes them a little more time to make your food delicious. Second Question: You're also familiar with family-owned Italian restaurants, right? Every type of pasta gravy under the sun...HUGE portions...an older gentleman gently running the show from behind the scenes like a maestro? Okay then. Well, have you ever experienced BOTH these gastronomic phenomena under the same roof? Because that's what you get at Pica's of Upper Darby. Darby gets made fun of and for good reason. Besides being the birthplace of Jamie Kennedy and being a place to move for really super cheap rent, there's not much to it. There's especially not much to the restaurant scene, if you can even call it that with a straight face. Therefore, as the only game in town, you can imagine what a bang-up business they do. Last Sunday, the boyfriend and I were famished, I was on a cooking strike and we were traveling back to his place (yes, he lives in Upper Darby) to pick up his work clothes for the week. We called ahead and ordered and I watched this orchestra play on as we waited patiently. On the one hand, Pica's is an old-school diner, where a grad party or small wedding reception can happen regularly. On the other hand, and at the other side of the building, Pica's is an energetic and busy take-out cheesesteak and pasta joint. It was amazing! Ooh and the food. I almost forgot. This isn't the best Italian food you'll ever have, but the portions are enough for two full dinners, the menu is very pro-meat (great for the meat connoisseurs that my boyfriend and I each are) and the desserts (tiramisu and chocolate cake being my favorites) are to die for! Don't travel to Upper Darby just to visit Pica's. But if your car should happen to blow a tire on West Chester Pike before the 69th Street station and you're hungry for Italian food, stop at Pica's of Upper Darby. Have the spaghetti Bolognese.

Picas is known for their cheese THEN sauce pizzas and it is tasty! Plain is my favorite but pepperoni is good too! Best is that the slices are not gigantic and not too thick. If only they delivered!

After reading other Yelp reviews about this place, I decided to order some take-out pizza. The building has an entrance specifically for take-out and an entrance specifically for dining in. Make sure you pay attention to the signs. When you arrive and pay for your order, be aware that you will be handed three receipts: one for you, one for the pizza window, and one for the salad window. I was a little confused at first, but I eventually figured it out. Even though no one explained the process to me, the people who waited on me were friendly enough. And the pizza is excellent. The sauce is the right consistency. I wish the crust was a little crispier, but it's still excellent. I ordered a half cheese, half pepperoni pie. Instead of the smaller pepperoni pieces that you get at most places, these pieces are much larger. I thought that was a distinguishing touch. For a salad, Sprite, and large pizza, the total came to about $23. You can pull up in front of the building or you can park in the adjacent lot. Either way should be fine. I think that I'm going to stick with take-out here. I really enjoy the pizza. It's definitely a big step up from standard pizzeria fare.

I've been going to Picas since I was a little boy (seventies). The main draw for me is the pizza, but more on that later. Pica's is a large Italian eatery, much larger than your average chain restaurant. They feature dine-in, banquet facilities, take out, and a full bar. The decor is nice, with lots of nice wood trim. Its a little date, but I like it. It has an assortment of booths and tables, and the seating is very comfortable. The restaurant is always clean. Upon entering you will be in the foyer where the hostess station is. This area looks like some elderly Italian womans living room (not that its bad). Once seated, the service is relatively quick. The menu is large and varied, with all sorts of Italian dishes. I'll be honest in that the only thing I've ever eaten here is pizza and french fries.. Others have had other menu items and think its great. Now, onto the pizza! This is not your regular every day pizza. Its not New York Styles, its Not Chicago Style, its not national chain style. Its hard to describe what style it is, but it is fantastic. The pizza is square with a crust that is not too thin, but not too thick. I'd say its maybe a 1/2 inch thick at its thickest. The pizza is "built" with the sauce on the top, with sheets of cheese underneath it. The cheesy is not shredded, its more like a sheet as I said and is quite tasty. The sauce (which imo is where this baby shines) is fairly sweet with a slight kick to it. I think it may even have a dash of wine in it. If you like a saucy pizza, then this is for you.The crust on the edge will typically have a nice char (not burnt) on it and has just enough "crisp" to it. Overall, you really cant beat this place. Its a great place for daters, families, or even you single folk who want great takeout!

Nonna Spinosi, Aunt Carmela and my Italian Mama set the bar pretty high, so we don't venture out for red sauce too often. The antipasto is a bargain. A bowl of gnocchi feeds at least two healthy eaters. Service is efficient and friendly. I have been eating there for 30 years and I swear some of the customers (and waitresses) were there back then. The pizza is addictive and so much better when you eat it there. Don't mess with the weird Italian snapper soup. The eggplant parm app is one of my favorite things anywhere. Its a little pricey, especially for Upper Darby, but it is worth it for fresh, tasty and reliable Italian food and a taste of the old neighborhood.

If you are within 10 miles of Pica's you need to try it. One of a kind pizza and pasta dishes. Recipes handed down from generation to generation and you can taste it. Tomato pie but does have cheese under the sauce. Find your topping and enjoy. If there was one food I could not live without, it'd be a Pica's red pie with Ricotta cheese. The baked rigatoni and manicotti are also top notch. I mostly prefer getting it to go because odds are good you'll feel like you're eating in a nursing home, but sometimes a sit down is fun and nostalgic. Enjoy!

Since Palumbo's demise, Pica's is as close to the delectable NYC (Brooklyn & Little Italy) Italian food of my youth, that I've been able to find in the Delaware Valley (and I've been to tons of restaurants in the 20+ years I've been in Philly). Fast and friendly service (like most popular places, Friday and Saturday evenings can be a tad slow given the crowds). A mix of tables and booths, with a pleasant ambiance; lighting is subdued, but bright enough to read the menu without needing a flashlight. A varied menu with a good mix of traditional Italian dishes. I've had a few "meh" meals here while exploring their menu, but never a bad one; most have been delightful. The wife loves their Ravioli; I am partial to their Baked Rigatoni with ricotta and mozarella, and their Chicken Sortento. Their pasta is nearly always al dente and their gravey is hearty and flavorful (no bland tomato water here). Entree's include a choice of soup (their Escarole is nice) or salad (always cold and crisp, with a good variety a dressing choices), bread (a decent sized round loaf with a nice crispy crust) and dish of warm roasted peppers marinated in oil and chili flakes (delicious!) My only disappointment with Pica's is their pizza -- square with sauce on top of the cheese. Often soggy and occasionally over-cooked, it's not my cup of tea, but the wife loves it as do most of our friends. If you're looking for a slice of NY, so to speak, this ain't it. But taken for what it's worth, it's OK. If you're looking for some decent Italian, with ample portions for the price, give Pica's a try.

If you stick to pasta, you'll be okay. I always ordered the Chicken Alfredo and enjoyed it. Twice I ventured into fish with a broiled combination and both times it tasted like frozen seafood left in the over on "warm" for three hours. The pizza, in my opinion (and i know i am in the seeming minority) is awful. I don't care for sweet sauces. Pica's red pasta sauces (gravy) are too sweet. You won't get a horrible meal but the place is tired. The menu needs to be modernized and trimmed down and the decor updated.

Food: This is the best pizza EVER! Other than the pizza I'm not a huge fan though. The rest of the food is just okay. Takeout: Takeout is always crazy during dinnertime and there is nowhere to park because the lot is always full. But for this pizza it's definitely worth the hassle. Dine-in: The service inside the restaurant is horrible. We had my son's baptism party here about a year ago and it was a fiasco trying to get enough tables & chairs, drinks, food, etc. even though I called a month in advance for a reservation. We ended up having to cram into one section and then the additional people who didn't fit had to sit across the restaurant from us. And the service was soooo slow. Then I went here a few months ago to meet some girlfriends. When I arrived before them I asked the hostess if I could put my name in and she said there was no need because there was no wait. Well when my friends got there 15 minutes later I went back up to the hostess and she had to put me on a list??? Then the wait was seriously over an hour! By the time we got seated we had no time to eat because my friends were leaving for a concert at the Tower so we asked them to just wrap up our food to go and the waitress was very snippy with us. The whole meal was just ridiculous. These are just 2 of the times that the hostess & waitstaff were not up to par. I have not returned since the last incident and refuse to eat inside the restaurant. But of course I'll still pick up pizza because I need my Pica's pizza:)

I made reservations at Picas for 20-25 ppl for 7pm. It was a surprise gathering for my sister, for getting a Honorable Discharge from the military. I called and talked to a lady (her name I will not say) , but she was in reservations, I knew I should had found another place when she told me that they could not spilt the bill, that everything will be on one bill, but it was a last minute arrangement so i just said ok. The day of the gathering I arrived 30 mins early, I went inside to say the name of my party, and was immediately told that I was too early? Which I was,but I assume that they would had a section already resevered because of the amount of ppl attending my party. As I sat and waited for our name to be called my only worry was my sister coming in the resturant when we were'nt seated yet. To make a long story short we didn't get seated untill 7:25pm , my sister comes in the resturant which ruins the surprise!! Our waitress was RUDE!!! she had an attitude, they didn't even give us enough menus to order off of. The food they gave us was horrible!!! and late we waited atleast an hour to get our food.It aslo took a fair amount of time to even get bread and butter!!! everything was backwards. I really was shock, because I had had a track bauquet at Pica's Years ago and everything was great!! I really didn't understand why the service was Bad?

So good! I came here with my family after visiting my sister at St. Joe's. Philadelphia magazine recommended the place in their cheap eats article. I wouldn't say it's particularly "cheap." However, the pizza was very unique: thin, crispy, not tough and chewy, sauce on the top, and a little cheese. The small is definitely enough for 3 people and we split a giant Greek salad, which is also good for three people. Our server was jolly and efficient. She took time to tell us how the pizza is cooked to such perfection. We will definitely be back!

Another of my quest's here in Philly was finding the best pizza, since there are like 30 pizza places around where I live. We always do pizza on Friday nights, so instead of making our own, we opted to try here. It seems like it is always busy, so it must be good, right? We came in and got seated by a sweet old lady, and our server was really nice and helpful. We got the eggplant parmiagiana appetizer, which was really yummy, cheesy and good. THen we got the small pizza with sausage and mushrooms. Yahoo! Finally a really good pizza here in the PA! Well, the only differences with this pizza was it was square and it was upside down. Upside down means, i didnt know, cheese first and then toppings and sauce next. Really yummy, and the only downside was I ate way too much and almost lost my dinner on the short drive home! Way to go PIca!!!

This place is minutes from 69th St. and has really good pizza. It's not the best, just really good. I like the fact that it's different (square with the sauce over the cheese) and this place is a nice italian restaurant that isn't stuffy at all.

Last night my friends went to Pica's for dinner and had the worst dining experience ever. The food was wrong and they argued with their customers. The manager just sat there and didn't even try to intervene. They didn't leave a tip, that's a gratuity mind you, because the service as a whole was horrible. The waitress chased them out into the parking lot, what is Pica's coming to?? We are making sure all our friends hear this story. Thank you.
