I had went to Ricketts Glen state park for a hike of the wonderful falls trails with my boy and our friends and we were headed down to Allentown for the night. We happened to pass by Tamaqua and trusty yelp showed that this was a highly rated restaurant (though only 6 reviews) and on our way without detouring, so we took a chance with this place. I'd like to give this place 3.5 stars but rounding it up b/c of the nice staff and cool restaurant. It is set in a historic train station that was renovated. The place is really cool and I walked around taking bunch of pictures. It has lots of pictures hanging on the walls of what it used to look like. The owner came over and gave us a history lesson which was very interesting and was very friendly. The lady who took our order was also very nice given that it was 9pm on a Saturday. For appetizer - my very hungry friends ordered the mushroom soup and seafood dip. We tried the dip and it was delicious with fresh french bread (supposedly locally sourced). They seemed to have enjoyed the mushroom soup. Both items came in a pretty big portion. Then we got our entrees after 20 minutes. They got: jerk chicken with fingerling potatoes and a seafood platter (scallops, shrimps, and crab cake). We got cheese steak and chicken marsala. Nothing tasted bad - however, neither tasted like what I was expecting. Cheese steak came with chips and pickles. It had some interesting tomato-y cheesy taste that reminded me of pasta. It was actually pretty tasty but not what I was expecting. Chicken marsala consisted of 2 large pieces of chicken breast. Lightly breaded and had some creamy sauce. Again tasted quite nice with many slices of fresh mushroom (baby portabello?) but the marsala sauce was not exactly what I was accustomed to. No big deal but have an open mind when you are ordering your dishes. Friend's jamaican jerk chicken was supposedly very spicy. The seafood platter seemed pretty big. My friend who's known for his big appetite was too stuffed to finish his gf's chicken. :) Our portion of the bill came out to be ~$35 after tax and tip (marsala chicken and cheese steak) and friend's bill was around $70 pre-tip. There was some mix up regarding the charging credit cards with separate amount... we were under charged by quite a bit. Took about another 5 min to get it all figured out. Not too bad but we didn't leave until ~10 which is when they close.

The food is good, but the kitchen is terribly slow. It took an hour to get our food, as it always seems to, except when it takes even longer!!!

It is a great establishment with a wonderful history. It even has the original train station clock in the bar area. The old women's waiting room and men's waiting room have each been beautiful decorated for two different dining experiences and outside seating us also available. The servers were friendly and the food was fabulous! But waiting 1 and 1/2 hours half for two chicken dinners is not my cup of tea. It wasn't even crowded. There was only about 8 tables filled. I would recommend stopping by if you are in the area but I wouldn't make a special 1 hour trip like we did just to sit and wait more than an hour for a meal. Cost: $50 for 2 meals and 2 waters including tip!

Great brunch. We are visiting from NY so tremendous value for the money. Good atmosphere and service. Apparently they have a world class bloody Mary however the person who makes it was not working. The regular house one worked just fine.

Great home cooked american style food. Service is excellent. Owners welcomed us at our table. Located in restored historic railroad station. Casual dining with bar and they offer elegant dining rooms for private and holiday parties.

Great place in a historic train station. Almost any weekend features fun events including an occasional passenger train. Food is Delicious and expertly prepared and served. Owners are really nice people who will come and talk to you. You have to try their Mac and Cheese. It's simple, but probably the best thing on the menu.

AMBIENCE: 4 .25 STARS Excellent old train station. We sat outside facing the tracks, gazing at two other bars, an endless stream of trucks, and a former rail yard, with an elegant tank engine on display. BURGER: 4.5 STARS It was hand made, excellent beef quality, perfectly cooked, a crazy bargain at the price. SERVICE: 2.75 STARS Freckled girl seemed a little over run. SUMMARY: 4 STARS Would make a point of coming here if one is anywhere nearby.

Pleasant atmosphere, friendly service, and always good food. Tamaqua hasn't been on my top list of places to go eat...and I grew up here, but now that Vonz is here, there is finally a place where you can get a quality meal in the area. Every time we have come here my food was good and the service was great. No complaints! Love coming here!

Went for lunch with my wife on a day off road trip. Recommended by a coworker. Great experience spoke to the owners who were more than inviting and pleasant even to the point of sending the waiter out to feed the parking meter for us. Food was excellent I had the Garlic Mushroom Crab soup which was creamy and delicious along with Vonz Cheesesteak which was loaded with meat on an tasty bun. Wife enjoyed the soup and a wrap along with a few cocktails. Prices are reasonable and setting in the old Train Station is beutiful and memorable. I definitely recommend a stop if in Tamaqua! we will be back for dinner for sure.
