Driving by a miniature golf course? I have to stop. I'm an addict. But I don't get my hopes up. Most courses just don't take themselves seriously enough to warrant a second visit. The few that do often have some major flaw or enough minor problems that around hole 15 I find myself daydreaming about the day I'll create my own course - a perfect course. Village Greens gets pretty darn close to that ideal. It's amazing. Are you within an hour and fifteen minute drive of the course? Because it took me that long to get there, and I'll do it again before the season is out. Why is this course so good? First off, there are actually two courses, a 23 hole course, and an 18 hole course. The 18 hole course, of which I have yet to play (but I think looks amazing), is more akin to what most people probably expect from mini golf. The 23 hole course is what I'm reviewing below. There's also a little food stand with indoor/outdoor seating. Want a milkshake when you finish? You can call ahead towards the end of your game, and it will be waiting for you after your victory! I evaluate mini golf on five metrics. First, there's "Environment." Are we in the middle of a subdivision, or a major city? Perhaps the course is in a theme park, or next to a major road. Village Greens is situated in a valley surrounded by forest, the greens next to several babbling brooks. Carefully crafted bridges and walkways guide players from hole to hole, and there is adequate spacing so that one doesn't need to hear too much of their fellow golfers around the course. I arrived when hundreds of landscaped flowers were blooming. The result of all this a relaxing, soothing atmosphere in which to spend quality time with loved ones (and win, no doubt!). My next metric is "Skill/Chance". With few exceptions (perhaps real grass courses want to minimize chance), I believe the ultimate mini golf course should lie in some sweet spot between a crap shoot and a chess match. This course hovers pretty close to a compromise that made me feel good at the end of the game. Skilled players can rest assured that they'll usually beat their goofy friend; their goofy friend can feel good about winning occasionally due to some lucky shots. No game is fun without a "Challenge", but it can't be impossible. I'm used to courses that err on the side of being designed as too easy. This course is hard to play, and I think that's great. Dedicated mini golfers will probably agree. Less serious players might be annoyed. First timers in either camp could see themselves with quite a few sixes on the score card. And now we come to "Novelty". This course doesn't have a rotating golfer statue blocking your shot, or a loop-de-loop (although novelties like these are available on the 18-hole course). What it does have are clever green designs to guide your ball in ways you may not have seen anywhere else. For instance, in one hole, there are choices within choices. What does that mean? Well, you can choose to hit your ball the wide, long, safe way. Or you can choose the narrow path in front of you. Or... you can hit the ball directly in the tubes lining the narrow path! Another great green requires the ball to be hit hard enough to make it around a sloped curve, but not so hard that it will hit a wall and bounce back. Multiple brooks streaming through the course are real traps meant to whisk away your ball, possibly forever! Fortunately, additional balls are available for free if needed. This course also has a nice skill ramp at the end of the 23rd hold for a chance a free game. Lastly there is "Maintenance". Pretty simple question: How well is the course standing up to the test of time? Well, this one has been around for a few decades, and I'm impressed, given the enormous scope and complexity of this course. There are a few rough edges, such as at least one noted instance of broken edges of PVC pipes (that have no effect on game play, just aesthetics) or dirt on many of the holes. But for the most part, the greens are still level, and the tee mats are intact. A serious effort has been put in to keep this place as fun as it was when it opened. No course is perfect. Everyone will have a subjective feel for their favorite place to golf. But if you like mini golf, and especially if you are an aficionado, find a warm sunny day in late spring or summer and make the visit!

So even after a few years, Jeff W's review is still the gold standard as to what playing the gold course is like at Village Greens. I mean sure they do have that other putt-putt style course as well but honestly why would you play it when this other beast is waiting to humiliate you? The prices are certainly on the expensive side but if you join their mailing list you'll get tipped off as to various events through out the year including any discounts like this past weekend when it was BOGO to freeze your ass off on opening weekend. They had been open for around four hours on Saturday and supposedly we were the first people to play the gold course all day and only one other family of four had come earlier to play the other course. Yes indeed, it was that cold/windy in Strasburg. None the less the course was still fun even though certain parts were not ready to be opened as a few tubes were still jammed with leaves/twigs/crap and a carpet/starting mat or two was either ripped or out of place but even with all of that the course is still impressive and it was still a hell of a lot of fun playing all by ourselves out in the woods. If you go: Adults are $9.25 gold course/$7.00 orange course, kids 12 and under along with seniors are $7.75 gold/$5.75 orange and there is a discount if you choose to play both courses in the same day. VG is open daily from the end of March until around Halloween with hours being dependent on the season.

The best mini golf place I've ever been to! They have 2 course options - orange and gold. The gold course is more holes and is more expensive and scenic. Both courses are very beautiful. They have a small shop with ice cream. Cutest little place.

This is unlike any mini golf you have ever experienced! The grounds are gorgeous and so unique for a mini golf course. We did the golf course that has 23 holes situated in the woods. The foliage was beautiful and serene. Mini golf with a view! The golfing itself was definitely challenging but impossible. It took us an hour and a half to get through the whole course and there were only 2 parties ahead of us. Keep in mind it's a lot of walking and up and down steps and around the woods. We will be back!

This is now the highlight of an annual day trip from Philadelphia for our family, which includes three young men with high standards for mini golf! It's really one of the nicest mini-golf places we've seen over the years: rolling hills, waterfalls, and a serene, country setting with shading trees and plantings all around. Plus a pretty challenging course that 20-somethings find fun. We combine this with lunch in Lititz (Tomato Cafe) and ice cream at Lapps, and in between enjoy the scenery of the Amish farmlands and the road-side fruit stands.

The best mini golf I've played in PA. We had so much fun. If you like to walk and enjoy hearing water run this is the place for you!!!!

Decent mini-golf course (2 separate courses to choose from). The snack shack next to it has a $10 minimum for credit cards because small businesses have this horrible habit of not reading their credit card agreements, but you have the option of paying a quarter to charge anyway (credit card surcharge, woo!). The food smelled pretty good, but I didn't try any, just grabbed some water bottles. Staff were friendly!

A great mini golf place. Having grown up nearby I often take it for granted that all mini golf places are just not as nice as Village Greens. It truly is a beautiful course, make that two courses, and it really is just a nice fun time that all will surly enjoy.

The best mini golf course around. My buddies and I, as grown men, continue to play here as if it were a Sunday morning show and go group, tossing a few dollars in the mix to make it interesting. Fun for family or freind time.

Amazing Putt Putt. We played both courses and had a fantastic time. The orange course is a good warmup and provides the standard mini-golf experience. The gold course, however, was a very challenging course which provided wonderful garden and forest views. Honestly the most naturally beautiful course I have ever played.

This place is BEAUTIFUL and both courses are a fun time. The "hard" course is downright mean but super fun! Definitely worth our trip and we will come back again!!

This is a 'must visit' option for every time we come to visit our family in northern Maryland. It's an hour away from them and absolutely worth the trip! We have never played the Orange course because the Gold course is just too good not to play. In addition to the items mentioned in earlier reviews (beautiful landscaping, thoughtfully planned holes, interesting challenges), we also love that most of the Gold course is wonderfully shaded! Since we only visit when school is out during summer months, this shade is very much appreciated!! We play a fair amount of mini golf on our family vacations and have never come across a better course!

GORGEOUS scenery!! Best mini golf place ever! Had a blast with my husband and 6 year old daughter on the gold course! I know that the other course is more kid friendly with the traditional holes and easier, but my daughter had a blast either way! It was absolutely beautiful! The staff was extremely friendly as well! :) Thank you Village Greens!

Jeff W. hit the nail on the head. The Village Greens must be seen to be believed. There are two courses at the Village Greens - gold and green. Green is for suckers. You're in for standard mini-golf fare (windmill, little sand trap, etc.) Gold is a whole different story. You're out in the woods, out of sight from civilization going under waterfalls, up and down large slopes, with gazebos to stop and take a break every now and then. If you've never been, the Village Greens makes a great date spot or family outing. It's the most fun you can have in Strasburg for less than $10. Pro Tip: You can skip the snack bar at the Village Greens - promise the kids that you'll hit the ice cream place in the center of town either after you school them on mini golf.

We did the gold course on our visit here. There were 24 holes on this wooded, secluded course. The other reviews pretty much sum it up although the holes did seem a bit run down and soon in need of repair. I did want to clarify one thing. The gold course is a putt-putt course and the orange course is a miniature golf course. What's the difference you ask? Putt-Putt courses have no over-riding "theme" and have a spartan look about them. They rely on angles and banking the ball. Mini golf has fun obstacles like spinning doorways or revolving mills, man-made mountains, lakes, or waterfalls. We had a good time and got our money's worth. I won a prize of a free round by hitting the ball into the hole-in-one on the 24th hole. Since we don't live in the area we passed it on to a uniformed soldier who was there playing with his family. Go Army!

This is the single greatest mini golf course I've ever played. Two courses are offered. The Orange Course is pretty much a standard 18 hole course with silly animatronics and typical hazards. The Gold Course, however, is a 23 hole PAR 74 thing of beauty. I'll say it again in case you missed it: PAR 74 mini golf course. The very first hole is a par 4! Have you ever seen a mini golf hole with a par 4?? The first thing to notice is how amazing the landscaping is. Beautiful flowers all over the place, terraced holes, bridges, and lots of natural water that all flow around the different holes and ultimately end in a large pond. Even the carpet on the course is well maintained and there is no sign of wrinkles, or tears. The second thing is how well designed it is, from a playability standpoint. Far too often are mini golf courses the same basic shape but with a clown/pirate/elephant standing in the middle. Not on the gold course at Village Greens. This beast throws many route choices at you for several of the holes where you can play it safe by taking the high road, or the risky low road. I'm a pretty experienced mini golfer, and this was the most challenging course I've ever played, but it was nice to have that feeling that you earned it and really required a lot of thinking and strategy. Every hole felt like it was well thought out and designed. They were all incorporated into the beautiful landscape with many hills, and turns and natural water hazards. No throwaway holes here. This par 74 beast took close to an hour and a half to complete! And every minute was a pleasure. The orange course is $7.25, I believe, and the gold course is $8. Fairly pricey, but well worth it. The Village Greens goes well beyond a "if you're ever in the area, you should check it out" recommendation. If you're a mini golf fan, you NEED to come here. But be prepared to be spoiled for life as I've never seen anything that compares.
