damn good amish food, not sure about the eggs they use in terms of mix/scrambled the ommlettes are strange, they use some sort of egg solution, its not straight up eggs, tastes kind of like egg beaters or something. the scrambled eggs i found out are pre made in a giant vat, they just have them in a heating tray, fresh eggs are fresh so get sunny side up or over easy etc. the food is delicious, lots of flavor, not crazy about the sausage, the bacon also looked precooked but yummy. all in all a good place for breakfast or lunch at budget prices.

I enjoyed dining here. I'm no sure what happened, but out for took like 30 minutes to come out. The girl apologized for taking so long, so no biggie. I got the turkey platter and my friend got the chicken platter. The meat was so tender. The stuffing was great, the fries were good. The mashed potatoes weren't the best, but still not bad. My friend got a side of mac n cheese. It looked like there was no cheese on it but you could taste it when you ate it. The mac and cheese was very salty, as was the entire meal. I don't mind a little extra salt, but might be too salty for some people. Overall, it was good. People were nice and I would go back. :) the over all flavor of the food wasn't amazing, but the dinner roll with peanut butter was great. The peanut butter tasted like a melted fudge-like peanut butter. I was too full to try dessert but it definitely look good!

My kids and I are here for lunch. Very friendly staff, relatively clean and the food was very good. If you are looking for a simple, home cooked lunch, then this is the place for you. We were very pleased.

Never had Creamy Cheeseburger Soup before. Sounds kinda weird, but it's tasty, rich and creamy. Dinner Rolls: simple but good, light with a nice texture. Perfect with the delicious peanut butter spread that comes with it. (They sell the PB spread in tubs also.) Meatloaf: thick and juicy. Cooked just right, not overdone. Has a tasty tomato ketchup side. I wouldn't mind more herbs, spices, flavours in the meatloaf, but it's solid as it is. Mashed potatoes is fine. Baked beans are so-so; I wouldn't want them again. Did not enjoy the Amish Wedding Dinner which is basically little pieces of dry overcooked chicken mixed with stuffing in gravy. Stuffing is tasty enough, but chicken bits were not good, too dry. Meal is served with very refreshing coleslaw (nice!) and creamy celery, which was comforting, cooked into melty pieces in a slightly oversweet sauce. The place is run by actual Amish people. Service was pleasant, attentive, enthusiastic. Food is just solid, basic, home-cooked food.

No true Amish Restaurant would serve terrible instant mashed potatoes and canned baked beans. I was very surprised at the food we got here and will never return. The meatloaf was nothing special, almost funky tasting. My wife did enjoy her meal of an open face turkey platter with baked potato (smart move on her part) Seems to me that their gimmick is serving everyone overly sweet peanut butter with a dinner roll (again with the roll being store bought) When you travel somewhere new for a few days you look forward to dining somewhere new and hopefully good. The rating on urbanspoon led me to try Katie's, at least others will now be forewarned.

Arrived at 6 pm on a Saturday with a party of 3. They told us it would be a 40 minute wait and it was. We tried to call ahead and make a reservation earlier in the day and were told we could not. So we waited 40 minutes for a table (the place is very small) and then ordered food immediately (having had plenty of time to look at the menu). I ordered the "famous local meatloaf dinner." The waitress brought our drinks without lemons (which we asked for) and then served us hard, stale rolls with peanut butter. Who wants a stale peanut butter sandwich before dinner? No one. We then waited ANOTHER 40 MINUTES for our food to be served. The food was decent, but bland. We have had Amish food at many other restaurants and markets before, and this was second-rate. The soft-serve vanilla ice cream, however, was outstanding. We got that to-go. This place is definitely not worth the wait, and we will not be returning unless its for ice cream.

The perfect "tourist experience" in Lancaster especially when heading to Sight and Sound. Skip the smorgasbord and leave the day old food elsewhere. This quick turnover makes your meal fresh and to order. Plus the selection of dessert makes it the prefect PA dutch treat. The icing on top the cake is the customer service is prefect!

Giving it 4 stars, keeping in mind the genre: diner food. Not a fancy brunch place, but some great, simple food. We got chipped beef gravy and toast and then sausage and gravy. Both came with really unique and good home fries (basically thick cut potato chips). We also got some peanut spread, and ended up getting a tub (for $7.00!) because it was so good. Very rich and creamy.

So disappointed. We brought people from out of town here and we had never been here ourselves. Everything we ate for the most part tasted store bought. The sweet tea was Arizona tea, the potatoes and Mac n cheese tasted like some kind of boxed food. Nothing homemade. My friend got beef and noodles and he could not eat it because it was so chewy.

One of the best places you can go for dinner in Lancaster... Great prices... Great food... The only downside is the place is small and at peak times you will have to wait.. But it is worth it.

Yelp reviewers were right, this place is terrific. Had open faced beef sandwich one night. Very tasty and buttered noodles were perfect. We shared a fresh peach pie slice. Dee-licioius! Had prime rib special on visit two nights before. I am a meat freak. This was one of the best I've had in years! Warning: my wife and ladies at adjoining table had open faced turkey sandwiches. They didn't like, because it is served chopped. One lady said that's how the Amish serve it. Stick with the beef!

I just went here for the second time, my first visit the food was great, I had the pork and sauerkraut , my second visit I had the same thing but it was barely warm, not cold but more like room temperature. My wife got the meatloaf, it was like paste and also room temperature. There's no excuse for not getting food out at least warm. I won't be back.

Best breakfast value in the area. This is a farming area and I think they are confused between plates and troughs. They serve enormous amounts of perfectly prepared food. Even the pickiest in our group loved it.

Diner style ambiance. The food was really good with Hearty portions. Had the meatloaf with mashed potatoes, a side mac cheese and a dinner roll. The dinner roll came with homemade peanut butter on the side. The peanut butter was fantastic. The homemade lemonade was amazing! Our waitress Lily was a sweetheart. All of the waitresses and cooking is done by Amish women. The diner looks a bit older but we didn't care because the food and desserts were worth the trip. For dessert my son had the m&m sundae and I had the chocolate cake with caramel icing and vanilla ice cream. Next time we are in town we will definitely be passing by.

Katie's Kitchen, an Amish-owned and -operated family restaurants, has been around for about 6 years. They offer a variety of breakfast, lunch, and dinner options, mostly PA Dutch favorites, as well as homemade Amish desserts for dine-in and take-out. The hubs and I came here to grab lunch after attending a festival nearby. The meals start off with a roll and a little cup of their housemade peanut butter spread - let me tell you, that pb spread is SOOO GOOD!!! It's light and creamy, and easily spreadable - I'd love to use that on pancakes and waffles, or just go out of town on a pb sandwich (they sell these by the tubs at the front, so make sure you pick one up on your way out!!!)! The hubs started off with a cup of Cheeseburger Soup (which seemed more potato-based with ground beef; I wasn't a fan of this, but the hubs enjoyed it); for our entrees, I had the Open Faced Slow Roasted Turkey Platter (this came with chunks of slow roasted turkey on homemade bread, topped with turkey gravy; a side of mashed potatoes with turkey gravy and a choice of a side (I opted for stuffing) also came with) - the turkey was salted and seasoned perfectly, and great with the gravy. The stuffing was a little more on the bland side, so I recommend in asking for extra gravy to be ladled on those. The hubs had the Fried Chicken Platter (comes with 3 pieces (drumstick, thigh, and breast), with a choice of 2 sides (we opted for the buttered noodles and the macaroni salad) - the fried chicken had a wonderful thick skin to it and was well-seasoned; great in dipping into the hot sauce if you wanted to spice it up a bit. We weren't fans of the macaroni salad (way too sweet) and the buttered noodles (way over cooked and had no 'butter' taste to them at all). We also tried their Homemade Meatloaf, which came with mashed potatoes with beef gravy (I loved how they stick with specific gravy for the platters; turkey gravy for turkey dishes, and beef gravy for beef-oriented dishes!); the meatloaf itself was okay; soft, with a thin layer of tomato sauce. I was sad that they didn't have the seasonal Meadow Tea (supposed to be mint-like), so I settled with their homemade sweet tea/lemonade (which was still very refreshing and tasty!). Our server was Becky, and she was very sweet; a little MIA, so just be diligent in waving her down for anything that you need when she passes on by! The place was filled to the brim, but luckily for us, we waited for only about 10 minutes or so (make sure you put your name down and your party size with the hostess). Definitely a great spot to have a homecooked, filling meal in the area - I'd love to come back and try out their other weekly specials and their homemade desserts! :D +housemade peanut butter spread!!! +Open Faced Slow Roasted Turkey Platter +gravy on the mashed potatoes complement the dish! +Fried Chicken +1/2 & 1/2 (homemade sweet tea & lemonade) +limited parking in lot

Down home cooking. The peanut butter spread that comes with the rolls are to die for! It is like peanut butter frosting but better. I got the meatloaf with potato gravy and Mr. G got the chicken with gravy and stuffing. The people are so pleasant.

This place serves delicious authentic Amish cuisine. The meals have great portions and very affordable prices. With great customer service, the staff is always very gracious and friendly. I am a huge fan of their buffalo kickin' chicken wrap and kettle fries. I've never had a bad meal here! Everything seems to be tasty and enjoyable. Great shoe fly pie desert too! The Restaraunt is only a few miles down the road from The famous Sight & Sounds theatre!

This place was so good, and truly authentic...and made me happy that the Amish themselves were running the place. VERY casual and plain decor, and the food is simple but hearty. There are some diner classics (fried mozz; chicken fingers; "amish quesadilla") but we opted for more traditional country foods; I got the beef and noodles, my husband got the open face beef sandwich with veggies and potatoes, my kids got hotdogs and mac and cheese. Everything was excellent....just so so good and filling...and clearly home made. Ice cream (vanilla or chocolate only) was a delicious way to end the meal. Priced extremely reasonably. Behind the building they have a little swing set and a willow tree where my kids played a little...and just to prove authenticity a barn with a horse and a buggy park. LOVED everything about this place...a must for anyone visiting the area.

This authentic Amish diner was a pleasant surprise find of ours. The service was excellent. The ladies were dressed in traditional Amish clothes. It isn't the most elegant inside but very clean and casual which is what's expected from an Amish Diner. The open face roasted turkey was very good. It was actually shaved turkey from a roasted full turkey instead of the deli meat most places use. The Coleslaw was creamy and tasted good. The mashed potatoes were whipped so well you almost think they came from a box until you taste them. Very delicious for mashed potatoes. The best surprise of the meal was the peanut butter. Wow! I've never tasted peanut butter as good as this. Very rich, creamy and melts in your mouth. We liked it so much we bought a pint for $7. Well worth it. Too bad we couldn't try the desert since we were full. They had a very goof selection of pies and cheese cake that were all home made. Very good Amish Diner with delicious home cooked meals. Don't forget to try the Peanut Butter!

Possibly the worst restaurant meal I have ever had. I should have left when our server tossed our silverware on the table but my wife and I stayed because of the good reviews. What a mistake. We had the fried chicken special. I think a frozen dinner would have been better. The pieces were incredibly small and way overcooked. Rude service, terrible food, just stay away.

What could be more authentic than buffalo wings, jalapeno poppers, or a cheesesteak wrap? The lunch menu is 99% typical deli/grill fare. Seriously, only one or two items on the menu that could be considered Penn Dutch. Weird, since the place is actually run by Amish ladies unlike many of the big tourist restaurants. The food is fine,though it was not very hot. Was very busy on a summer Saturday lunch. Had to wait a few minutes for a table and there was a line for the single person rest rooms.

What a disappointment. The hotel receptionist spoke very highly of this restaurant for "authentic Amish" food so we were ready for a treat. Nope. Four of us ordered takeout and none of us liked our food. The portions were small and flavorless. We won't be back.

We stopped for lunch at Katie's Kitchen looking for authentic Amish food. This food was amazing, very fresh, home cooking from the best! I had the BBQ chicken with mashed potatoes and coleslaw. Anytime that i would be in the area I would definitely make a stop to this restaurant. The staff was also fantastic!

Was driving through amish country and really wanted authentic amish food accidentally found our way to this place. The place is small has a diner feel, the price of the food was great nothing over $15 and the food portions were great. As for the food the main proteins were very good I got fried chicken and my husband got open faced roast beef. Both were great as for the side dishes, they were not great. Deinatly tasted like boxed potatoes, salad with house dressing was really good but simple and my husband tried the mac and cheese and it was fair. But overall food was well worth the money.

This place is great!! They serve authentic Amish food!! Everything is homemade, even the mozzarella stick. My husband had the meatloaf and I had the strawberry salad. For dessert we ordered the strawberry pie. All were delicious and fresh. Love this place.

Good food, good service and very reasonable prices. This is the place to eat in Amish country if you're not wanting a buffet, smorgasbord, or big bus groups. Diner style restaurant with an all Amish staff. Make sure to save room for dessert here - pie and ice cream are really good!

My mom and I stopped at Katie's for a quick lunch on our way out of Lancaster. The food was good, but I was a little confused about the "real Amish cooking" tag line because the majority of the items on their menu were burgers, sandwiches, and wraps...which aren't really Amish. The homemade Amish stuff seemed to be specific nightly specials (like pot pie on Wednesday nights, etc.) and I was disappointed that there wasn't more of that incorporated into their everyday lunch menu. The clientele wasn't surprising, it was a bunch of senior citizens (some in wheelchairs with oxygen) and a pair of Canadian tourists... Not that there's anything wrong with that, but it reflects the kind of food that's there, hotdogs and tuna salad sandwiches...meatloaf... My chicken wrap wasn't bad, and neither was the burger my mom had. I also had some cheeseburger soup, which was strange. Not strange in concept as you might expect (because I've watched my share of Diners Drive-Ins and Dives episodes) but strange in flavor; it looked and tasted like broccoli cheese soup with ground beef. It wasn't bad, but I wouldn't call it cheeseburger soup (seriously, why were there carrots in it?!?!). Overall, while somewhat disappointing as far as the menu went, the food wasn't bad and the place was run by an adorable bunch of Amish children. I'm not sure I would go again, but I'm also typically in the mood for a lunch that isn't just a hotdog and chips. Going and eating there certainly won't kill you, and you'll get a small taste of Amish Lancaster.

Giving Katie's Kitchen four stars because the food was amazing, but pricey. This relatively clean establishment has the cutest and sweetest waitresses. Downright darling. We had the special, a ham and Swiss sandwich with potato chips. The ham was the best ham I have ever eaten and the Swiss chess was rich and smooth. The bread was to die for. I don't really care for potato chips but I ate every last one because they were light and fresh. I would suggest getting the special as that is what they are focusing on for the day and it will be fresh. Other loves at the table were the French fries (light and fresh) and the desserts. We had a pumpkin swirl and it was amazing! Others had a very enjoyable cheesecake. But, this was by far the most expensive lunch we had on our week-long vacation so, for the money, the decor should be updated, the parking lot freshened, etc.

It's an authentic Amish restaurant. Even though we've lived in the area for quite some time, we thought it was just an ice cream shop. (Look for the Amish guy with a wheel barrow, 2 pigs & a big ice cream cone out front!) Turns out it's a nice little restaurant with delicious food. My wife and I went here for breakfast, and even thought it was close to lunch time, we still opted for breakfast. My wife had 2 eggs easy over with rye toast and home fries. The home fries were like thick potato chips and they were awesome! I had Fried French Toast which must of had an apple cinnamon topping to it and it was a nice homemade bread. It didn't need syrup, it was delicious. Mine also came with 2 eggs and sausage. (It was a meal fit for a working man!) Not only was it excellent, my wife kept feeding me her toast with the homemade strawberry jam on it. Yum! We watched as other customers got their lunch plates and they looked equally tasty. We'll definitely be back for lunch... and then supper too!

We came to the area just for the day and after asking a few locals for suggestions about where to eat, we decided on Katie's Kitchen. So glad we listened to them, this place was realllly good! Everything was homemade. We tasted the fried chicken, meatloaf, and open faced turkey sandwich.... All of which were delicious! Sides were yummy... especially loved the homemade mashed potatoes and rolls. The service was wonderful too.... everyone was very kind and helpful. A local we talked to at the restaurant said he ate there often, sometimes twice a day! Loved it and would highly recommend it!

So when I saw the sign "Authentic Amish Cooking", I thought I was in for a treat since I really appreciate shoo-fly pie, apple dumplings, fresh farm eggs, and other Amish tasties that can be found at the Reading Terminal Market in Philadelphia. What a disappointment. I hate to speak ill of my Amish family -oriented neighbors, but I cannot allow anyone to perish a dollar in this kitchen since it really was pricey, cheesy, and quite frankly...not good. Our order was done wrong twice in one seating in a party of 10. This after the server took such a long time to repeat the order. To be fair, this visit happened with the first real snow of the 2009 Winter season, and if I had to ride a horse and buggy to market on that day....I might have given you a funky level of service too! Sorry Sister...

I stopped at Katie's Kitchen with my mom and we were both impressed. The diner was spotless and they had a very friendly staff. The food was home cooked and served hot. The atmosphere is casual and the prices extremely reasonable. Katie's was very busy but there was no long wait to be served, it moved quickly. I give the management a lot of credit for running a great business. We look forward to returning.
